Preseason8 CHA @ IND Game Thread

Jeremy Lin was clutch one more time in the 2nd and 4th quarter to lead the Hornets to 7-0 preseason record.
Coach Clifford show his faith in Jeremy by trusting him to play in the 2nd and 4th quarter after a slow start in the 1st quarter when Jeremy’s shots haven’t fallen and he chose to facilitate more.
This probably wouldn’t have happened in Houston or LA in the past 3 years.

It’s only preseason but both teams wanted to win last night and Hornets executed better as JLin shut down Reggie Jackson and played 1-2 tandem well with Nic Batum in the 4th.
It’s very encouraging to see the growing chemistry between them even if Kemba was not playing.

Tonight it’s a back-to-back game so Coach Clifford might want to rest his starters more but keep the same rotation.

Will Kemba play briefly? Will JLin start at SG? Who will be the starting PF, MWiliams or Zeller?

Whichever lineup Coach Clifford chooses, let’s hope the Hornets continue to grow chemistry and JLin is trusted more as a playmaker. Only good things can come out of it.
Let’s go, HairSanity!

      4th, no medal, but works

    • Michael

      Feels great to be first.

    • real-dsb

I wonder if Lin will get reduced PT since back to back preseason. I wouldn’t mind actually.

    • JW
    • Michael

Something like 10 seconds less would be acceptable.

    • JW
    • real-dsb

Al, Kemba, some random guy, Hawes, Roberts

    • Derek Kong

It certainly does. Thank you for noticing.

    • real-dsb

are you speaking on behalf of Briick, who was first?

    • blueCypher

Looking forward to this, hmm will D’antoni be one of the crew previewing the hornets ?

    • blueCypher

haha, look at Al. He looks goofy in this.

    • Mr Chuckles

      Let’s GOOOO!!!

    • Mr Chuckles

I think the random guy is the trainer.

    • Rzo Vlade

      3rd…….fail

    • he’s warming up to the next JLin video :]

I love how this team would dine together in a middle-of-nowhere diner. And they seem to enjoy themselves!
It reminds me how Harden and Howard didn’t want to go to certain restaurants back in HOU

    • blueCypher

Someone should record this and post

he might also be a member of the volleyball team, or IT support guy

Refreshingly honest writing! Surprised to see that kind of wording from nba.com writer. You’d typically see that more from non-official writers like SBNation or BleacherReport. (Although it did come from Pacers writer, not Hornets).

    • real-dsb

I’m security. Trying to learn all team’s faces. =p

    • real-dsb

That explains the photo where Lin had his phone out on the plane and a bunch of teammates were gathered around him.

“See, and this is how you post a tweet from your phone”

      LOL

Good, some earned rest. Record may stay at lucky 7.

      Haha! Ya!

    • Keith

      Lin is not playing tonight.

This blows! He's resting the whole bloody first team. Not much reason to watch and see the scrubs. Bummer! https://t.co/Z5rJ9sXo1e— Nathan Gottlieb (@zukovka) October 22, 2015

    • JustSayNo2HardensIso

Why Spencer Hawes instead of Cody Zeller?

    • Michael

Sometimes you just have to say it out loud.

    • JustSayNo2HardensIso

Maybe coach is seeing how Walker does with the bench?? =) Wishful thinking!

    • CJSHYY

Daniels as SG?! Last night did earn his playing time then?

    • orLinaryjoe

Maybe Psycho T will see time off bench.

    • steven ko

that could be construed as a shot at kemba by well known Lin supporter Nathan gottlieb

    • pandaboy99

Well looks like my night just became free.

    • I think Coach Clifford has seen what these players can do so they pass with flying colors:
      Al/JLin/Batum/Hawes/MWilliams

The rest would need some more evaluation on fit and different lineups.

And perhaps Cliff wants to see if the Hornets can win without the rested players on the floor.
Will there be ball movement? Will there be too much iso-Kemba? Can Kemba feed Frank/Zeller/Daniels?

    • Cody disappeared w/ a string of 5pt/1pt/2pt games

More PT will be good for him

    • probably not. Kemba is the only playmaker

    • orLinaryjoe

Bummed, not hair today. Is regular season hair yet?

    • grover chang

That diner looks so cool. Like traveling back in time.

    • zxcvb

Don’t know if Al passed with flying colors. He looked rusty and out place all preseason. Big Al is the only reason I won’t be outraged if Lin isn’t starting…Jefferson is such a drain on the offense and defense.

I’m still rooting for 8-0. It’s a nice little confidence boost for the entire team.

    • GoJLin!

Coma, coach Clifford, Is this too much to ask that I want the hornets to have an undefeated record (8-0) and be the undefeated team in this preseason?

    • grover chang

Would love to see Hawes play with Zeller. I am craving to see more ping pong passing between those two.

    • grover chang

The team plays good defense so they have a chance, but big problem is who is guarding Paul. I don’t see anyone in the line up to stop him.

    • JW

Zeller also played last night too. Maybe his starting position might be in question.

    • Rzo Vlade

      no lin sucks today

    • real-dsb

      Not surprised, expected this

    • heart

Wait, Lin is resting and not playing and Kemba is? Is this true?

    • CJSHYY

      Ya! True.

    • Dorothy

Kemba did not play last night, remember?

    • heart

      thanks.

    • Rzo Vlade

kemba : coach I want to chuck
Coach Cliff : alright you play chuck all you want…
      kemba : Yesssss

    • heart

But I still thought he has heel contusion? Should he also get complete rest to heal up more if Clifford does not want to play starters?

    • CJSHYY
    • heart

We’ll see how his shooting is tonight. Hope he’s up to it. If they get the win Hornets will get a perfect preseason record, but it’s too bad for us Lin fans can’t see Lin in action tonight. We’ll see. For Lin’s sake I want Hornets to win to set new franchise preseason record. When everyone is happy it’ll be good for Lin.

    • true, Al was a disappointment especially with the way he played defense last night. Clearly not blocking out for an easy offensive rebound & putback.

Cliff might give him more patience hoping he can convert those midrange Js. Hornets media expects him to convert them at 40% like last season

If Al is still shooting & defending poorly in the 1st 10 games, I hope Coach Cliff does something

    • JW

which IT though? the retired IT?

    • I assume this is Isiah Thomas, HOF ex-Pistons?

Wow .. and Isiah Thomas agrees with MJ!
When did that ever happen? lol

@KHuang:disqus has been on the phone again

    • CJSHYY

      Isaiah Thomas

    • jlim7

Yesterday, Lin with starters, today Kemba with bench. Does it mean Clifford is considering staggering Kemba and Lin and start them together?

    • JW

Aren’t both of them the same name?

    • CJSHYY

Ya! For the first time I agree w him. LOL!

    • Briiick

      Good idea.

    • no, the HOF is Isiah, the current one is Isaiah
      I think

    • CJSHYY

That’s what I thought.. coach wants to start Lin & Kemba. Maybe Lin can be starting PG for this team….?! Have to wait.

    • CJSHYY

Haha! Don’t think the Celtics IT will have the chance to be commentator in NBA TV now…LOL!

    • heart

Possible. Has Kemba play w/ the bench much, a few times, briefly? Is this first time he will spend more time leading the bench, right?

    • JW

So the current player saying it then? Tweet says Isaiah

    • that’s very unlikely to happen. We’re talking about benching $48M Kemba as an investment. It’ll be hard to find a trade partner that way (if GMs call around)

Lin/Kemba starting backcourt as dual PG would be the best scenario for first 10 games.

If they’re too small & start losing, then make some changes. But if they’re winning, they should keep starting.
Not sure if Coach Cliff will think the same way

    • JW

OK. Would make more sense. Just trying to get a confirmation.

    • it could be a typo?

    • TTNN

at first I thought that’s the IT the current player said that…..

    • jakey

What about for those without NBA TV ???

    • me too, but probably it’s a typo.
It should be Isiah Thomas from Pistons Bad Boys on NBATV

    • CJSHYY

I know what you are talking about… but before vs NYK game. Coach told the USA Today, besides SG in starting lineup not settle down yet every other position all done. Then changed again to not decide yet…. I always got the feeling he wants to start Lin but just can’t settle down …. I was very happy they got the W last night… Just Wait …Hope it’s good news.

    • Briiick

IT was a phenomenal PG, he knows better than those taller former players.

    • CJSHYY

Haha! I will change to full name…LOL!

    • JW

OK. Somebody better get a youtube video upload for this

    • JW

You’ll have to wait for the kindness of strangers. waiting for a youtube video myself.

    • TTNN

LOL, who did this? Brent, is that you? 🙂

      https://twitter.com/zukovka/status/657327166485581825

    • blueCypher

      Need… video …. of … preview show

    • yes, let’s hope for the best scenario.
JLin’s plays in the preseason is way too strong to ignore.

Nice to hear all these acknowledgement from IT & media but ultimately it’s what Coach Cliff thinks might give them their best chance to win.

I’d say Hornets will have 8-2 record w/ JLin starting and only 5-5 if not =)

    • takemeback2reaganyears

..and I though IT was something “it”. lol

    • LOL Brent is asleep 🙂
Must be @Michael:disqus then bidding for Brent!

    • CJSHYY

I don’t know what to say..? I really think Lin got some hate from beat writers or reporters all due to some of his fans…

    • takemeback2reaganyears

I thought he once said he speak for Lin fans? I like him at the beginning but recently he went too far.

    • GoodDayLA

let me get this right. Kemba Walker is starting with bench guys and no other starters from last night playing?

    • JW
    • CJSHYY

I thought he said after that At the Hive tweet incident… in his age he should be able to control or something like that… he’s in NBA business before he should know better than anyone else but why acted so silly…. smh!

    • I have a brand new respect for Pete Guelli who is humble enough to apologize.
I like these people in Hornets organization more & more

      https://twitter.com/PeteGuelli/status/657327861737660416

    • JW

Believe Zeller is still playing. He started last night.

    • blueCypher
    • GoodDayLA

some players must see what I see. At least a few. It’s just most don’t want to admit it publicly.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

Exactly he should know better. Picture showed he’s no teenager.

    • CJSHYY

I think he maybe over 50 or even older….?!

    • GoodDayLA

oh i see. This is a compliment to Lin from Coach grouped in with nic and Al as main guys on the team. I’m fine with it.

Find it really odd the “Star Kemba” is playing.

    • CJSHYY

      Marketing people always smile…:)

    • CJSHYY

      I don’t get what’s wrong Nathan w this? It’s only 7:00pm in NY not 1:00am?! smh!

    • takemeback2reaganyears

      I don’t think we care.

    • real-dsb

No, it is Isiah Thomas, the former Pistons player.

    • This is high praise from IT and Mike Dunleavy Sr.

Isiah Thomas breaks down why JLin is the most important Hornets pickup in the summer (incredible scorer, great touch, shoot 3s, in the lane/outside the lane)
Mike Sr praised JLin’s strength as PG & SG plus what he did best to get FTs

Both like the leadership & charisma & size on the floor

    • takemeback2reaganyears

Hahaha so true. Wait until they hit the bar after work.

    • CJSHYY

      Haha! I agree….!@#$%

    • real-dsb

“Aren’t both of them the same name?”

      Different spelling
Isiah = retired Pistons player (misspelled name)
Isaiah = current player (correct spelling)

    • CJSHYY

Wow! NBA tried hard to promote Lin & I like it a lot. Haha!

    • real-dsb

“So the current player saying it then? Tweet says Isaiah”

No, Isiah the retired Pistons player said it. Tweet is wrong.

    • real-dsb

      what’s the context?

    • JW

thanks. Just watched it above. this is great for Lin.

    • GoodDayLA

honestly, there is an internal struggle to figure out the starting 5. The Hornets don’t know what to do. The answer is so obvious if it’s just about winning games, but of course it’s not.

They will hide the ball till game 1. I guess it’s good so Miami can’t prepare in advance.

    • JW

They pushing it so hard, almost making me think there is another agenda to this.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

This is good internal struggle, teams would love to have this problem.

    • CJSHYY

Haha! I don’t care it’s true love or not just repeat all the time on National TV. LOL!

    • Briiick

He believed in Lin like some of us here when Lin was marginalized by BS/KB to the rock bottom. We really appreciate them to speak out on behalf of Lin at the difficult times.

    • I heard IT kept praising MJ getting better with executive decisions.

Perhaps IT wanted to bury the hatchet & get on MJ’s good side

Whatever it might be, it’s good they recognize JLin’s strong plays in the preseason.

    • Briiick

The league won’t go against the FO, even if they know a player is being marginalized, and vice versa.

    • Chopz

Isiah Thomas the 2nd Bad Boy in 2 days to compliment Lin – very nice. Isiah knows what he’s talking about, he’s got 2 championship rings to back that up.

    • TankLakers

it looks like 3pts practice game.

    • BUZZCITY17

LINS NOT PLAYING TODAY no point in watching

    • Dan Cohen

well.. u won’t say that if he say cr0p about lin…you will say he doesn’t know sht.

    • TankLakers

0/6 3pts and no FT, no 2pts game?

    • GoodDayLA

      who is the fgirst?

    • GoodDayLA

totally is an agenda. There is a NBA agenda to push Lin & let him thrive even if as a bench guy.

    • TankLakers

i do not think Hornets wants to win tonight. it is a practice session.

    • GoodDayLA

Kemba’s box score looks good so far

    • sws94

Don’t know if this was posted. Isiah Thomas and Mike Dunleavy talking about Lin.

I think resting Lin is a good move, this way teammates will find out about the limitation in spacing when Lin is not around to create.

anyone watching the game? just wondering if Lin’s hair is spiked or not. =)

    • real-dsb

      TH sighting!

    • TankLakers

very good post. it basically said coach Scott is so dumb.

    • Is JLin sitting between Hawes & Batum?

    • Alain Gervais

      Indiana shot selection annoys me.

    • real-dsb

KH must have been busy on the phone with Clifford.

    • DaBoss

The last time I looked, no. but guys keep shifting around …

    • real-dsb

Today’s lineup is a conspiracy to show much the second unit needs Lin. This way, Clifford can justify not starting Lin.

      (sarcasm =)

    • real-dsb

Lin keeping up the team movement even on the bench!

    • steven ko

disturbing trend for Lin in b-2-b seasons: DNP-CD!

    • DaBoss

Batum and Al have been sitting together near end of bench since beginning

    • GoodDayLA

the backups are good enough to beat the Pacers. It’s great. This roster is really deep.

    • real-dsb

better than DNP – too old

    • steven ko

like that one from Pop a couple years ago

    • ok thanks.. I think it could be Hawes & Marvin Williams

    • real-dsb

We should all cheer for Kemba to have a breakout game, because then it will prove that he can lead the second unit. LOL 😉

    • Hansbrough got that offensive rebound easily & putback

    • Alain Gervais

      He will start .

    • heart

IT must have been watching Lin’s game during preseason, and perhaps MJ owner has passed a few good words on Lin to his friends at NBA media. I’ve been noticing NBA media features Lin more lately possibly to drum up China basketball fans excitement & interest also.

    • CJSHYY

      Ya! I think so…

    • wow.. CHA leading 28-24 at end of Q1
      This is quite impressive

    • TankLakers

Relax. I think this game is for picking 15th player. Lin needs a break.

    • Chopz

Rick Mahorn oohed and ahhed on a few plays. There was one time he said: “That was an interesting move, nice little step back pump fake Andre Drummond, get him out of the way.”

    • yeah, there’ll be debate who can lead 2nd unit better: Roberts/Kemba/Lin =)

    • CJSHYY

Pacers is really not good now… smh!

    • Rzo Vlade

psycho ty should be starting PF

    • GoodDayLA

      1. Pacers stink

      2. Charlotte is really deep. Too many quality bigs. The dropoff from Al to Hansboguh and all those guys in between is not that much.

    • GoodDayLA

they stink. and they play Montae at 2? Are you kidding me? Bird gone senile.

    • Alain Gervais

There is no think so. He will.

    • GoodDayLA

not sure about that but he should play at least 10 minutes a game.

    • Alain Gervais

      Not really.

    • GoodDayLA

yeah but he said Lin was a backup scrub didn’t he who can’t play defense.

    • Rzo Vlade

he has pNR def and rebounder can bang downlow he is great fit to al

    • David Kim

Even though its preseason record, its good to see.

      Linternal struggle

    • GoodDayLA

oh wow Pacers deep on paper with big former names off bench. Didn’t know that. Still the score is interesting with Charlotte bench and benchers and Kemba leading.

    • JJ Hui

What happened with the score keeper?

    • Dorothy

am I correct to say they are not playing much teamball?

    • stam

      Walker is playing well.

    • GoodDayLA

he’s not a great passer but he is a heck of a small scorer. no Iverson but he’s got strengths. He’s like a small rodney stuckey with more jerkiness.

    • heart

Yep, that’s what I say. Keep an eye on Charlotte’s score.

    • steven ko

don’t know if this has been posted yet but think you guys will find this more entertaining than the game:

      http://www.nba.com/video/channels/nba_tv/2015/10/22/2015-cha-season-preview-new-additions.nba/

    • heart

Like TH aggressiveness. He’s a good rebounder.

    • real-dsb

      not Roberts, please

    • CJSHYY

Ya! A lot better than Al.

    • steven ko

      another article for your perusal:

      http://nyloncalculus.com/2015/10/21/charlottes-potentially-unprecedented-offensive-change/

this has nothing to do with Lin does it?

    • yeah, just joking around.
we know Kemba has to start to justify $48M

    • stam

Wow that was impressive, he’s showing j lin whats up haha

    • real-dsb

wow, Zeller really did develop his 3 pt shot. I thought it was just talk, but

he’s 4-6 from 3pt in preseason so far!

    • stam

Yeah i agree he definitely can score though he seems much more efficient this season.

    • heart

      Good defense by Charlotte.

    • Alain Gervais

I don’t think so. Way to hesitant. Teams don’t respect him

    • zxcvb

Trade Al and start Lin and this team really could be last year’s Hawks.

As of now, I’m seeing 48 wins with Big Al starting and Lin beginning the year as 6th man. I think that’ll change by midseason, but for now, it seems most likely due to front office politics.

    • Alain Gervais

Stop trying to be the coach

    • heart

Like Zeller. Quietly adjusting his game. I’ve gained respect for him since the first game w/Clippers. Clippers bigs tried to intimidate him, but he didn’t whine and continued hustling. He’s also good w/Lin. I like him.

    • Alain Gervais

      Exactly

    • heart

Do you think Paul George have confidence issue after his injury. He seems not quite the same. Am I wrong?

    • blubell

Good to hear because he’s one of those XM NBA Radio hosts that thinks Jeremy is a good solid backup.

    • Alain Gervais

Yea if you don’t have a mac your taking a risk.

    • Alain Gervais

I heard the announcer say Kemba ask coach to play because he missed yesterdays game.

    • zxcvb

He’s playing out of position as a PF and he said he doesn’t like it. I don’t know why Vogel and Bird are doing this. I get the whole small ball argument, but George is an ideal SF and if he says he dislikes it, his team should listen. He’s the franchise player after all.

    • Alain Gervais

Also announcers listed marvin,al, and batum as rested players. Seem to “forget” to mention Lin.

    • heart

I felt so bad for him. That was a freak accident. He seems very humble. I like anyone who’s humble.

    • Rzo Vlade

he loves stripper just like harden even his team mate wife and gf basically anything who wear skirts

    • real-dsb

      nice article!

    • heart

      Oh, I didn’t know that.

    • Michael

      Cause Lin never rests.

    • Rzo Vlade

      he has baby momma

    • Michael

Good idea, ordering a big mac right now.

    • heart

Did not know this. I take everyone’s at face value until they prove me wrong.

    • CJSHYY

      He will I think.

    • steven ko
    • CaliUSMC

i thought he has always praised lin.

    • John Lee

Big Al is the odd man out, much reminiscent of Shaq moving to Phoenix and killing the offensive flow in 2008-2009.

    • steven ko

      didn’t know that

    • Michael

This is true, but has he every spoken ill of any player?

    • CJSHYY

Really? I am surprised to know that bc he’s a good friend of Dolan.

    • Michael

Fries are bad for you, that’s why you should give them to me.

    • CaliUSMC

From what I remember- it’s always positive statements for lin. Here’s one video of him talking about Harden/Lin. http://www.nba.com/video/channels/nba_tv/2013/04/09/20130409-harden-lin-analysis.nba/

    • CJSHYY

      Thanks.

    • CaliUSMC

      I agree

    • orLinaryjoe

Ruins da girlish figure. Give it us guys.

    • real-dsb

I learned from the article that Lance Stephenson had the worst 3pt season of all time (with 100+ attempts).

“Lowest 3-point percentage EVER with at least 100 attempts at .171. Previous low: Micheal Ray Richardson (.188) in 1981-82”

    • orLinaryjoe

      Did not know that either

    • real-dsb

Roberts 0-5, why am I not surprised?

    • blubell

Stress is also bad for me. So do you want stress with side of fries?

    • blubell

Stress is also bad for me. So do you want stress with side of fries?

    • Michael

Where are the highlights?? ( changing the subject )

    • blubell

      Where are my fries?

    • JJ Hui

Seriously i need to fire the score keeper!

    • heart

Missing Lin’s play, but I still want Hornets to have perfect preseason franchise history. It’s within reach. Let’s see if this unit and Kemba can do it.

    • Michael

      Watching the game with me.

    • heart

Please keep an eye on it for us to see any discrepancies. Thanks.

    • Alain Gervais

      Just wow lol

    • Alain Gervais

      Same on you lol

    • orLinaryjoe

Psycho T hopping around, LOL. Funny body language. EXCITED!!!!

    • blubell

      I see… fries with eyes…

    • JJ Hui

See Kemingski scored n the scores going up in Pacer ! Irritating!

    • stam

You know Lin’s situation has changed… when you actually want his team to win when they bench your favorite player.

    • sport

With so many starters not playing it looks like a close game. I hope Hornets can win this one so they can continue the winning streak through regular season!

    • stam

      Roberts not shooting well tonight…

    • stam

      Same here!

    • JJ Hui

If the game is behind, maybe 4th Q coach will put back some key players to win the game.

    • heart

Yep, Lin is resting w/Batum. As long as Lin’s treatment is the same as others, I’m ok w/it. Lin will be needed big time during regular season.

    • Briiick

Psycho T’s stats are good from the bench. Khuang must be right on him.

    • heart

It’s w/in reach as long as they make shot. When the score is low, they need to choose their shots carefully. Hopefully they will bring it home.

    • orLinaryjoe

      Missing Lin.

    • Alain Gervais

      Indiana has a 12 point lead…..ooohh noooo

    • Rick Johnson

Backups are doing relatively well against the Pacers starters.

    • kauaiblue

      Hows psycho t doing?

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Who is making the team?

    • Rick Johnson

You don’t see any other team bench their backup point guard to rest up for the regular season.

    • Rzo Vlade

      they will be cut

      hairston

      washburn

      wilkins

      Sam Thompson

    • Rzo Vlade

      bench players at best

    • orLinaryjoe

      Hansbro + 1

    • sport

Hansbrough playing well, 10 pts and 8 rebounds in 22 minutes, deserves a spot on the team along with Zeller.

    • BUZZCITY17

      NO LIN NO WIN!

    • BUZZCITY17

hes doing that against 3rd string Pacers lol

    • Rzo Vlade

      yep

    • John Lee

What about Elliot Williams, hardly seen him play.

    • sport

technically no starters no win lol. Think coach only played Walker 15 minutes to keep him in shape after missing last game.

    • Rzo Vlade

      guaranted money

    • occupatio

someone fill me in. why is lin not playing at all?

    • Alain Gervais

No starter is. Walker asked to play

    • BUZZCITY17

Where do you get these pictures

    • sport

Kaminsky definitely a great draft pick! Hornets and MJ were smart not to trade him for 1st round picks (not guaranteed to be stars).

    • kauaiblue

      Ok thx!

    • heart

He needs to work on finishing at the rim. Needs to get stronger.

    • kauaiblue

      Yeah!

    • BUZZCITY17

Kaminsky should be a starter midway through the season

    • sport

Yes definitely needs work shot 6-15 for his 19 points. He’s not getting that many shot attempts in regular season with starters playing.

    • orLinaryjoe

      NO HAIR, NO THERE!

    • John Lee

I think resting Lin “the bench guard” and leading to the only loss of the preseason despite Kemba’s presence is a strategically calculated move on Clifford’s part. It will silence doubters who question Lin’s on-court significance, and improve odds for Lin’s eventual starter status. At the same time, players will also feel the lack of smooth flow in Lin’s absence, making them appreciate our boy even more than before.

    • stam

TRUE that and like heart below said, he’s getting starter treatment.

    • sport

I agree he just needs to get used to the NBA game and be more efficient. Rather see him as starter than Jefferson.

    • Alain Gervais

It wasn’t just lin that was rested

    • stam

Even though hornets lost this game, it’s not a real loss since no starters are playing.

    • orLinaryjoe

Usually, bench players don’t need day off, they are crying for more play time. Actually sorry some of the players didn’t get chance to show themselves before getting cut.

    • sport

Coach doesn’t care about winning this last preseason game, he preparing for regular season and testing who he should keep on roster.

    • sport

only down 6 points with 2 minutes left can Hornets pull off a win?

    • GoodDayLA

they said Lin is important but didn’t say he is a stater. So whatever

    • Briiick

      No fin, no win.

    • orLinaryjoe

      fin?

    • stam

I doubt it since they are not putting Lin in lol

    • Briiick

      Shark fin

    • orLinaryjoe

      Yay, lucky number seven!

    • heart

Funny how we all theorize almost every move Clifford makes or try to read the circumstances around him bc we know Lin deserves to start. No matter what, Lin is in good hands. If one door is closed another will open for him. It’s in God’s timing.

    • orLinaryjoe

      Haven’t had that for awhile

    • sport

Game over and Hornets finishes preseason 7-1. We all know it’s could’ve been 8-0 but coach wanted to give bench players a run. I’m so ready for regular season!

    • John Lee

I know, Batum’s rest hurt the Hornets game too, but Al’s absence was probably a plus.

    • John Lee

      Sendoh’s jersey number!

    • real-dsb

Roberts 6 pts on 11 shots.
Hairston 5 pts on 11 shots.

I don’t want either of them to get playing time during regular season.

    • JW

      drop Brian and get Jimmer?

    • Alain Gervais

Jimmer is done in the nba

    • Dan Cohen

      kemba is a starter

    • Dan Cohen

      whatever bias dude

    • Dan Cohen

      stopit
they won last time lin had a flu.

    • Dan Cohen

thank you for the detail truth.
I like that better than stale no lin no win.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Harrison has blown his chance. Elliot Williams is done. Sam Thompson won’t make it. Jason Washburn doesn’t stand a chance.
Damien Wilkins must have made the team! Congratulations

    • Rick Johnson

Is Kaminski a center? Can he pick and told with JLin and get dunks or is Zeller a better PnR partner? Can Kaminski be a rim protector?

    • zxcvb

Roberts wasn’t too bad. He had 5 assists and was only -3 playing with 3rd stringers.

He’s fine for a 15mpg backup PG. His first two seasons in the league show this.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Damien is the unanimous choice to make the team.

    • Dan Cohen

but preseason is over for them no? it’s 7-1.. there is no 9th game right?

    • steven ko
    • Dan Cohen

      wrong..
as long as lin’s treatment is the same as the others starters.

    • Rick Johnson

He’s much better than Ronnie “Head of the Snake” Price.

    • Dan Cohen

      zamm straight mutafuka

    • zxcvb

      Haha, very true.

    • John Lee

      3/11 doesn’t exactly scream quality.

    • Chris B.

Wilkins looks more in controlled when he is in game. He should make final spot.

    • Alain Gervais

He need to go out of country. Develop and come back. Change some thing maybe his size.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Harrison doesn’t know how to play the game.

    • zxcvb

      http://espn.go.com/nba/player/stats/_/id/6641/brian-roberts

      1st season: 17mpg, 7p/3a (42/39/91)
      2nd season: 23mpg, 9p/3a (42/36/94)

He just had a bad year in last season’s terrible offensive “system.”

    • John Lee

You gotta do better with your dissenting opinion…

    • BUZZCITY17

Kaminsky is not a rim protector but he is a techinically a Center

    • Rick Johnson

Kemba only played 15 minutes in the first quarter and none in the second half. He did fine. Actually if the first quarter is just feeding Jefferson I think that’s a waste of JLin talent. Like JLin starting the season with the Lakers and just feeding Kobe. In retrospect I wished Nash played and did that and JLin came off the bench with Davis. Season for JLin might have been different.

    • zxcvb

Zeller is a better PnR partner right now because he’s more physically ready. Kaminsky’s defensive value is as a PnR defender because of his mobility/agility (like Bosh), not much of a rim protector.

Frank needs a year or two to bulk up and adjust. For now, he’s a good stretch 4 off the bench.

    • Rick Johnson

JLin isn’t just any bench player. He’s Super Saiyan Ginobili.

    • John Lee

Nash smelled the stinking BS from a mile away and decided that he’s not gonna take part in stinking up his legacy on that note, hence he bolted, and F/O couldn’t really blame him.

And yes, Lin/Davis all season would’ve been sweet, but it would’ve also destroyed the tank. 🙂

    • Rick Johnson

I miss having a big mobile rim protector that can PNR with JLin and take great Alley Ops like Tyson Chandler. Ed Davis was a little small on the defensive end, Asik had stone hands. Howard could have been a great partner but was on the Harden bandwagon and insisted on being a post up player.

    • real-dsb

Kaminsky is a stretch center. =)

Zeller is the better PNR. Kaminsky does more Pick n Pop. Kaminsky’s not a rim protector, but he’s not a bad defender either.

    • blubell

Why must you be negative all the time….

    • John Lee

      Impressive FT%!

    • It makes me wonder if Kaminsky has the future offensive potential of KLove but potentially be a better defender.

He has great inside move, up-and-under and can be clutch as he did in NCAA tournament.

    • real-dsb

      that would be amazing

    • GoodDayLA

i still think it’s odd how NBA TV only covered Lin and Frank not NIC in the new player piece.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      15 players 3 teams
      First team:
Walker, Batum, Marvin Williams, Zeller, Jefferson
      Second team
Jeremy Lin, Brian Roberts, Hairston, Kaminsky, Spencer Hawes
      Third team
Jeremy Lamb, Troy Daniels, Damien Wilkins, Tyler Hansbrough
      Disability:
      MKG List

PG Kemba Walker, Jeremy Lin, Brian Roberts
SG Batum, Jeremy Lin, Jeremy Lamb, Troy Daniels, Damien Wilkins
      SF Batum, Marvin Williams, Hairston
PF Marvin Williams, Cody Zeller, Kaminsky, Tyler Hansbrough
Center Al Jefferson, Spencer Hawes, Frank Kaminsky

      Any arguement.

    • Rick Johnson

Anybody else enjoying the GSW beating up on the Lakers?

    • that’s odd they didn’t cover Batum.

But the weirdest thing is Isiah Thomas praising MJ and his improved executive skills

    • yes, stretch 4 would be best for Frank. I like his high IQ game

He might hit the rookie wall after 2 months playing NBA schedule so he can provide firepower from 2nd unit to keep the game close or leading, that would be best case scenario

    • JAD2456

      Darn straight!

    • John Lee

Yes, and the Knicks lost another one. Love seeing Lakers, Knicks, Rox, and now Mavs lose games.

    • Dan Cohen

      yes..

Thanks for summarizing..but most of us already know who is who

I thought you were posting what you saw as the combinations that clifford use.

      That would be more helpful.

      ie..
      kw,lin,batum,mw,jefferson…starters
      kw,lin,batum,zeller,jefferson…starters

    • CJSHYY

      Haha! Me too.

    • I still don’t know how Lin was the only one jumping to get the huge rebound at [mark 6:30] around 6 big & taller bodies.
He got fouled to protect the lead at 96-94

Perhaps Lin learned a thing or two by watching Bev in HOU. Or watched Rodman to anticipate the angle of the rebound

    • Dan Cohen

but sometimes players have bad nights too.. lin had a few of them in the past.

    • Wayne Li

Warriors are toying with Lakers now.

    • Briiick

Lin has always been a very good rebounder and has good stls. Rox almost killed his rbs and stls to show off Haren.

    • james brown

He didn’t acquire that skill by looking at Bev…(because he was already BETTER than Bev) he was big on defensive rebounding even before UNTIL Mchale asked him not to do that during games because he is needed for the offense , while just trying to say that let Bev do that because he LOVES Bev that much..LOL!!!

    • kauaiblue

He didnt learn anything from beverly… lol

    • John Lee

True, and according to @disqus_hpbnOOqkJ6:disqus’s ESPN stat link Roberts seems to be decent shooter, though his playmaking seems lacking.

    • Chris B.

Russell getting the Jeremy Lin treatment for preseason. They don’t really trust him as a PG. Used mostly as spot-up shooter, and he is very bad at it. Lots of Lakers fans on lakerground.net thinks 32 year old rookie Marcelo Huertas is a better point guard.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      ditto

    • John Lee

Yup, this is who they tanked an entire season for. Jimmy Buss is basketball operation genius on the same level as Cuban and Dolan.

    • Rick Johnson

Warriors 3 point shooting either pretty awesome or Lakers can’t defend it. Maybe both

    • Wayne Li

Not every nba player can become a coach and BS is very good example. But it doesn’t matter much for Lakers cuz they are tanking anyways. The negative side effects were that players are suffering for their development.

    • Wayne Li

Lakers were not coached for defense and BS does not know how to defense 3pt.

    • Briiick

Only an old, non-scoring PG can catch up to the speed and ego of Kobe.

    • Chris B.

Tanking for draft pick is not a very reliable way to build a team. Look at Philly, Minnesota, and Lakers. All loser organizations.

    • KHuang

I wrote this summer that Huertas was the best PLAYER, let alone PG.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

This is already a playoff team. Big Al doesn’t need to move. He does have excellent moves down low and he begins to shoot his short jumpers quite effectively. He could still be a good part of the team. Kaminsky could use him as a role model down low. I see no reason that people wants to remove a useful piece from the team.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

He is extremely effective in very fast tempo. Should Jeremy decide to start running, Zeller is the ideal partner.

    • Chris B.

Byron’s half time speech: “I want you to pass the ball to Kobe on the bench for the 4 points shots. We can catch them”

    • blubell
    • blubell
    • Rick Johnson
    • Kwok Wai Lai

They offered about $10M to Stephenson. This should be the baseline of what Lin should get next season.

    • Briiick

Lawson will get similar treatment, I guarantee it. ———( )

    • Dan Ang

Just enjoy it brother. Good analysis by a Hall of Famer.

    • Wayne Li

      LOL

    • Dan Ang

      True

    • John Lee

Wow wow wow, POR killing Clippers, 63 vs 29 halfway into 2Q!

    • yes, I remember McHale LOVES Bev that much that although he didn’t ilke PG doing offensive rebounding, he encouraged Bev to do it

    • maybe the part about choosing the right coach 🙂

    • yes, JLin has great rebounding/stls instinct aside from pts/asts because he reads the game well

That’s also what enabled him to dominate the stat sheet in college, aside from his physical gifts of course

    • Kwok Wai Lai

The addition of the lottery pick doesn’t do much at all. They lost a PnR PG in Lin and they add another PnR rookie. Is D’Angelo a franchise player. No I doubt it.

    • real-dsb

You can’t group cuban with those guys, he put together a team that won the championship

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Get it!

I used to play Harvest Moon. His hair reminded me of this character:

    • Hope

      Is Lin starter?

    • John Lee

I couldn’t then, but I sure can now. He’s lost his touch, just look at what kind of a “team” he spent money on. Dirk was loyal and generous enough to sacrifice, but then Cuban blows the money on paper-tiger pretty boy. He even gave Rondo a shot when no one else would, losing Nelson and , which cost them dearly in last playoffs. Where do I even start with the Matthews trade? Then last but not least, passing on Lin…in favor of…Harris, Barea and an old and hurt PG in DW.

What did Cuban do right after winning the championship? Let Tyson go. His only saving graces now are the aging Dirk, and Carlisle stuck with a substandard team filled with injuries.

    • sws94

      Lakers are horrible

    • Rick Johnson

Can’t wait for the Hornet’s to play the Laker’s. 12/28 calendar marked.

    • Wayne Li

True, but Cuban didn’t have any good moves after that Ring.

    • Briiick

I believe it was pure luck after watching him become a laugh stock.

    • John Lee

In retrospect, the right moves may have come from Donnie Nelson rather than Cuban.

    • CaliUSMC

      Randle the ‘PG’ w/ 6TO’s

    • Briiick

He is the boss and takes responsibilities.

    • Rick Johnson

Curry’s such a nice guy. Gave D’Angelo Russell a high five after a good play.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

There are too many combinations between the first and second team that can be used owing to the versatility of Lin, Batum and Marvin Williams.
      Lin (PG/SG)
      Batum (SG/SF)
      Marvin ____(SF/PF)

    • Wayne Li

JLin and Co can beat NYK and Lakers easily, but it will be hard to beat Rockets despite it is not mission impossible.

    • IsabeliJane*17

While Mavs say they’re rebuilding, I think they’re being charitable, in a sense giving those players whom only a few teams might take a “priority” spot.

    • TTNN
    • IsabeliJane*17

He ain’t scared with the “big” boys – that block on Josh Smith, that defense on Dirk, going for the rebound against the Pistons bigs.

    • John Lee

Clippers 17 to Blazers 45 in 1Q, a differential (trailing) so big it’d make McHale proud!

    • John Lee

Stop wasting your lipstick on a pig! LOL

      Great Games tonight:
Clippers down 30 points to Lillard & Blazers and it’s only 2nd Q. Clippers rebound and won 6 points! What a comeback! from the Clipps bench 50+ points!

GS Warriors Steamrolled over the Lakers out of the house with 130+ points game. The Splash Bros. 48 points in 26 minutes! Let’s Go, Warriors! HOOWOO!! That’s to you, BScott – you and your defense.

See the word Batum (starter) before that sentence…It’s implied. But, you’re right, I understand what you mean.

Got b**chslapped real good by GSW, what a tool…in the literal sense.

      “I like D’Angelo. I really do. “

you can’t really blame Byron. This is all on Lakers management and ownership.

      That’s breakfast…..

    • Steppen03

Big guy that got handles… in HS and college, ok. You’re in a different league, buddy.

    • real-dsb

Going to be a lot of running at practice tomorrow

    • Steppen03

You’re wrong. The Hornets Can Abuse the Rockets so easily (take a look at games #3 & #4 again ). Haha… No, no joke. We can compete with anybody if we play tight and firing on all cylinders.

    • Steppen03

I remembered: Lin is a defensive specialist on GS. He didn’t change. Only the coaches don’t know his other strength – good D.

      Oh! Ya! Batum is younger…LOL!

      http://www.bullsnation.net/report-chicago-bulls-and-los-angeles-lakers-discussing-trade-involving-derrick-rose/

    • CJSHYY

      Rose? I doubt….

    • Rzo Vlade

hes free agent I think next year season might get something back before he leaves and bulls aint not giving him money

    • james brown

i saw that Jlin hair was not set with GEL on it during the shoot around the game against pacer. It was a clear indication he will not play and he knew about it even before the game start. just there to support his teammates who were vying for the last slot in the roster..

    • Rzo Vlade

would hornets trade for noah he is on a trade block…….but bulls dont need AL so in oder to aquire noah it should be 3 way trade team……………if they get noah they will have a interior def and shot blocker

    • james brown

i don’t know the reason why a team tank then for all the unknown reason got a rookie PG who isn’t as adept as your current one (lin) and then tank again for another BUY BUST OPERATION..LOL!

    • CJSHYY

I read he will be bench next season. So This new coach don’t like him? If Hornets can get him that will be great!

    • Rzo Vlade

      players on trade block bulls

      gibson
      rose
      noah

    • james brown

get noah + Gibson for walker and then trade AL for a good back up PG. bulls would want walker because they are letting go of rose. while AL can be traded with a good wing man or a Pg for JLIN’s back up guard (just my dream!LOL)

    • steven ko

would Lin be celebrated if he had Lillard’s numbers tonight?

    • GoodDayLA

      no

    • steven ko

am I a Lin looney to think that a fresh Lin would have led the Hornets to victory tonight? For sure they would not have surrendered 98 points…

    • Briiick

      It’s about time.

    • John Lee

The LA Lakers, new home of the seriously injured players who can no longer play like their former selves.

    • John Lee

No, you would’ve been a looney for NOT thinking that, Lin being fresh or otherwise.

    • John Lee

Lin would only be celebrated if he scored like 81 pts and 24 asts, only then will he have a chance of being called a “solid” starter.

    • LimitedEdition

If Lin took 30 attempts like Lillard did, Lin would score 60 points easily.

    • zxcvb
    • Maknusia

Patiently waiting for that day! 🙂 lol…knowing its not gonna happen

    • KL

Yes the preseason provides some indicators for the regular season. It is an imperfect prediction but definitely has some bearing.

    • zxcvb

Frankly, I was surprised there was even a mild correlation. Going 5-3 obviously means nothing, but going 7-1 against all NBA opponents (and undefeated in “serious” games) is a pretty good sign.

    • Michael

It’s kinda clear now why Batum, Matthews, LMA ..etc are all gone from Portland.

    • Michael

No security cams or motion sensors on the window, unfortunately only a single entrance from the front so not good for getaway situations.

    • Michael

He is the most defensive coach in the League.

    • kittyhead

Is Noah so bad? because of injuries? No way he is worse than Gasol…?

    • CJSHYY

Coach wants someone else to be a starter (Don’t remember who?) He wants Noah to play w Gison in the bench. In fact, Gison already went to bench for preseason game (not sure all or only vs Hornets?)

    • Michael

81 pts and 24 asts eh. Did you move all the sliders to 99.

    • KHuang

No, he’d be trashed in the media for too many turnovers.

Remember when he had 5 turnovers last season against champion Golden State when Curry had 7 turnovers?

Lin’s 5 turnovers made national news for ridicule while nobody dared criticize Curry’s 7 turnovers in the same exact game!

      MEDIA DOUBLE STANDARD.

    • KHuang

No, Lin would then be called “selfish”.

During Linsanity, the press was criticizing Lin as a “shoot first point guard”.

No matter what Lin does well, the hater press spins it into a negative.

    • Batman189

      That’s hilarious

    • Rick Johnson

What happened to their #2 PG draft pick? Seems to indicate they have no confidence in him despite the hype. Should have taken Okafor

    • grover chang

Besides Lillard I think Paul’s night was interesting. Clippers down by 18 at the half, then in 3rd quarter were down by 14 when Paul leaves with an ankle injury. Clippers go on a run and they win by 6. Paul is the only clipper starter with a +/- in the negative and they still moved the ball well without him as prigioni as the pg. Feels strange to say it but maybe the clippers do move the ball better without Paul massaging the ball for half the game.

    • KL
    • CJSHYY

I don’t think Lillard did good 14/30 only for 39pts, even he had 9 AS but w 8TO?! No wonder they would loss the game. smh!

    • Dan Cohen

the only bright thing for rose himself is that he got paid.. else it’s very sad for him.

    • Dan Cohen

      10 (I put 1 , but disque won’t let me comment)

    • Dan Ang

It doesn’t matter. Lin can flip the script when he helps the Hornets win their first Trophy

    • Dan Ang

None, he should have gotten the boot last season! Love him as a player not a coach.

    • real-dsb

fyi, the link goes to Page 2 of the article, so you should click Page 1 and start reading from there

    • yeah, he wanted the ball more than others for sure. I remember a coach said rebounding is about desire. He loves that ball for sure 🙂

    • real-dsb

I’m not a fan of the article, the title is quite misleading. Yes, it’s true that preseason games mean something. But the link that everyone’s been posting goes to Page 2 of the article, which misses the premise of the article in Page 1.

“We tracked every team that made it through
its preseason schedule with just one or zero losses and every team that
managed only one or zero preseason wins.”

Last year, there was only one team with 0 or 1 preseason W/L:
      TOR .875, they finished .598

Here is the link to Page 1:
      http://www.sheridanhoops.com/2013/10/26/bernucca-nba-preseason-doesnt-mean-anything-except-that-it-does/

    • It’s amusing to see how NBA, announcers, social media can’t help talking about the hair.

Aside from the good attention accompanied by his great games so far, I wonder it might help him to focus on being aggressive on the floor to play his game. So it’s like a war paint to get the mental state primed for battle.

IMO If it helps him to play his game for now & for camaraderie with his bros/friends, I’d say it’s good for him. I’d say his Hornets teammates can give him a good ribbing about his fun personality.

If he starts getting tattoos and all, we might be concerned 🙂

    • Arsenium12 .

With one day left in the preseason, here are some basic stats for “point guards” (Jeremy’s classification at RealGM), sorted by PPG (points per game). The data includes both Eastern and Western Conference players.

Most players played around 25 minutes per game. Notable areas for Jeremy are FG%, 3P%, TOV (turnovers per game), and RPG (rebounds per game). Click to enlarge the table.

Russell’s D just like Harden I guess even BS can’t take it. BS said yesterday, he’s only 19 years old still a lot needs to learn… in the league they are stronger, bigger & faster…. we need to put him in a place to succeed….. Bench I think that’s what BS means…

    • KL

My bad, edited the post already.

    • KHuang

That’s what I said last playoffs!

webattorney criticized me heavily for saying that the Clippers were better off without Chris Paul, saying that I “didn’t know anything about the NBA” (his exact words). But then the Clippers got Paul back after two games of Clipper routs and LOST THE SERIES. I was right, after all.

Chris Paul is an incredibly selfish player who doesn’t let anybody run anything. He has to micromanage every single possession. That kind of selfishness prevents his team from playing natural fundamental winning basketball.

Just look at the two Charlotte victories. Chris Paul played a “good” game but lost by 42. The Clippers were actually better with the team first Prigioni.

    • KHuang

In my experience, a good preseason usually has a tremendous bearing.

The Charlotte Hornets spent the entire preseason doing wildly different lineups from game to game. And they won anyway, mostly because of Lin but also because GM Rich Cho put together an incredibly deep bench made up primarily of the NBA’s castoffs.

So far, it’s the bench newcomers that have carried the Hornets in every single game.

I didn’t think Lillard was selfish when he had those players.

In my opinion, LaMarcus Aldridge leaving for the Spurs set off a chain reaction of departures.

Lillard was actually quite unselfish in Portland. It’s just that his gutted team now requires him to fire a lot of shots just to stay minimally competitive.

    • Thanks.

      JLin’s 47.1% 3FG is 2nd only to Lowry’s 57.1%
But Lillard’s 28.2% 3FG is very surprising despite leading in 26 PPG

I’d like to do another Heat Map of the Advanced Stats to see how the final Hornets preseason numbers look like

    • Derek Kong

Based on this, I predict Lin will be an allstar sub PG in the east. Kyle would probably be the starter. Can’t imagine Isaiah thomas beat J Lin’s fan base.

Well, Lin’s had 50/40/90 preseasons before. So we’ll see what happens in regular season.

lol. its true though. somehow his comfort level with himself really went up this summer. by a lot.

If Lin was on the clippers, it would be insane. But people cannot see it. Imagine if you traded CP3 for Lin, Ed Davis, 2 1st round draft picks, and more.

The Lakers would have jumped for the deal. Lin would OWN with Blake Griffin. It would have been insane. Truly insane. And Lin could get Reddick going every night better than CP3.

I’ve always wished Lin had the PG spot on the Clippers. He would lead them to great things but people just cannot see it. And the CLippers could steal him an get like 2-3 first round picks from Lakers.. Simply SMH

    • AtTheHive thinks it’s sustainable into the regular season 🙂

    • occupatio

      This is 100% sarcasm

    • GoodDayLA

Jlin has done this before. He’s kicked butt exactly like this in season 2 of the Houston Rockets preseason and the first 20 games of that season.

He got NO buzz or even recognition for it. It was a joke.

Michael Jordan is either really dumb or really brilliant as an executive to allow Lin to have a chance to finally play.

Even from the stats above, Lin’s usage is too low. He should be in the high 20’s for his productity. To be only like 4th on usage is a shame and it’s exactly why I know this team wont’ do as well as it could unless that is rectified.

    • steven ko

only coach D’Antoni would allow Lin to take 30 shots

    • steven ko

batum and kemba’s usage is too high

    • you’re right ..
but at least they’re talking about it
      so it’s a start

    • Maknusia

could be better on the spacing…lol

    • wu kong

to be fair the coach’s job is to prepare you for the game. To know the opposition and coach you by letting you know what you need to do. So maybe he was told what to do and just forgot or maybe he was told simply ‘be tough don’t be charmin’ which is not very useful… my money is on the latter.

    • GoodDayLA

well when you have a guy who’s efficiency is off the charts, he needs higher usage to see if his efficiency will go down or if he should be leaned on even more.

I’m sure Clifford and the team know all this, but the bad politics of pro sports tie your hands. In the NBA. You stop the bleeding by putting your hand over the wound rather than take the time to go to the hospital, get stitched up, take a step back to heal, and then go forward in a much better spot.

I’m hoping clifford and Jordan have a plan to use Lin more if Lin shows more and more he is that guy. Big picture, Lin and the team need a year and I’m sure things willl change for better or worse with Lin’s role. It won’t just stay what it is.

We’ll have to get popcorn and wait.

    • steven ko

dude is a bonafide playmaker………in the MEC (Middle Eastern Conference )

    • occupatio

Usage is not a meaningful stat.
More shot attempts, and even more turnovers will result in higher usage.

If you think they should shoot less, then point taken. But don’t need to talk about Usage to make that point.

    • Chris B.

It’s still officially preseason. Give him time.

    • steven ko

can we say “ball-hogger” for Lillard? that term only applies to the Asian guy if he even takes half the attempts of Damian

    • GoodDayLA

Actually Al Jefferon’s has been too high. IT wasn’t in China which is why they blew Clippers away. If they reveert back to plodding post ups where Al just bricks, it’s a team killer.

The fact Clifford seems to want to double down on it scares me a bit. I’m sure he thinks he needs that balance, but I think it’s taking away usage from more efficient guys in Nic and Lin and even Kemba on some level to make better plays.

    • steven ko

I just think those two get more play making opportunities than Lin when they shouldn’t

    • occupatio

I think Batum takes a lot of shots that are not in the flow of the game. Many contested fadeaway midrange jumpers — while there is still plenty of time left on the clock to look for a better shot.

Kemba, despite his reputation, hasn’t been forcing a huge number of shots in preseason.

    • occupatio

While we all want lin to have more playmaking opportunities, there is a huge positive to him not initiating the offense. It lets him free himself by using screens before he gets the ball on the wing. That’s huge cuz he gets the ball in triple threat position and sometimes while the defender has not fully recovered. That makes him so much more dangerous.

    • Alain Gervais

Lins usage percentage at same rate as last year??

    • GoodDayLA

I can live with a few bad jumpers. Batum has not been that bad at all and I will be the first to point out a bad ball hog.

Kemba has been shooting 50% or better most of the time so far. If he does that, more power to him and keep doing it.

I give Al Jefferson 5-6 games to get in gear. He has been bricking shots he normally makes. If he can’t score, he’s useless because he is a defensive and rebounding liabilty.

    • yes, it was 21.9
This this preseason but it’s promising

      Here’s the complete one (refresh)

    • occupatio

Comparing usage for players on different teams is tricky, especially if they differ a great deal in pace. Eg, 20% usage on a slow pace team on the lakers is, in real terms, much fewer shot attempts than usage on a faster team.

I just don’t think there is much point to comparing usage for two very different teams.

    • KHuang

It’s not all a Charlotte fail to not get Lin the ball.

Opponents are heavily loading up on Lin, ignoring other players to guard him.

The only reason we haven’t seen the typical crushing triple teams that force the ball out of Lin’s hands is because Clifford’s modern halfcourt offense has provided many cutters and openings for Lin to escape.

People play DEFENSE in the NBA, y’know?

    • KHuang

      Not at all –

they are UNGUARDED when Lin’s on the court siphoning their defenders away.

    • KHuang

From what I’ve seen in games, opponents sure aren’t guarding Lin any less.

    • Alain Gervais

lins dbpm is negative is that bad??

    • GoodDayLA

If they cut out Al Jefferson shooting the ball 20 times and making 5, that’s enough for me. Al needs to realize to win, he should be averaging 10-13 points this season as a 4th option behind Lin, Kemba, and Nic.

That frees up another 12 plays for Lin and company to do something else other than have Al jack up bricks.

I’ve seen him in the past and his touch is off. If it comes back, great. But it has not and his defense and rebounding and activity against Drummond was scary bad.

Not sure why they are so in on his as an expriing contract. I hope they are trying to do the trade bait thing.

Its tough cause he’s a great guy && temmate

    • Alain Gervais

Al will be the second option it seems. He got the ball a lot in the 4th .

    • occupatio

Al’s poor defense and poor shooting are related. When he misses and the other team gets the rebound, they can immediately take off for a transition bucket before Al can sprint back. He’s just so slow. Whereas if he makes the shot, he has time to get back.

So when Al shoots poorly, his defense is magnificently terribad.

    • GoodDayLA

and that will lead to guaranteed losses. It’s painfully obvious from afar. but i guess when you are in the trenches, you cannot see the forrest from the trees.

    • GoodDayLA

if that’s true they should start Lin so Kemba and Nic can shine how they want while Lin plays decoy, gets lower stats as a 1 yr rental. The fact they probably will bench lin and bring him off with 2nd unit as the 2nd unit star means they don’t believe Lin is siphoning people away as powerfully as you think. That or politics.

    • GoodDayLA

Golden State didn’t feed A Bogut 20 times a game and they seemed to do just fine.

    • GoodDayLA

sample size on 8 games, which are preseason are too premature to be taken seriously. I think if you do this 30 games in, it would be much better received.

    • GoodDayLA

even in the half court he was getting killed by Drummond. It was mostly in half court sets I saw the abuse in not being able to rebound, box out, or guard Drummond straight up.

    • zxcvb

I’ve noticed Clifford is running specific plays for Lin on a regular basis — this is the treatment that all “stars” get on every possession. Plays for him to shoot jumpers, plays for him to cut to the basket, plays where he gets a screen (or multiple screens) to free him up.

They’re even running the “Around the World” play that the Spurs run for Tony Parker, where he gives the ball up at the top of the key, runs along the baseline to the other side getting 3 screens along the way. And then he gets the ball back as he turns the corner into the paint (@1:21).

    • Alain Gervais

Lin has to play well for a whole year to fully set in peoples head this is the real him. Lin has played well for a month or half a season before. What i like more is his style. which is different then every other year of his career. The style of game he is playing is more sustainable then ever before. Lins highlight are boring lol. This is a great thing. How many shots he hits is left to be seen. That being said this change in style that we saw the second half of last year with the coaching of cliff has me hopeful.

    • Alain Gervais

I wanted to ask. What is the usage rate of top PG’s???

    • blueCypher

Nice. Jeff Van Gundy, who’s opinion about the NBA i respect, loves the Hornets this year. He picks them as the team that is going to be better than expected

On the Zach Lowe podcast (starts around 53 minute mark

      http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=13954134

    • we’ll certainly do so

But what’s important for 8 preseason games is to ask the question:
      1 What are the potentials?
2 Who can help the Hornets win the most in the regular season?
3 Should we give JLin a chance to start at SG for 10 games to evaluate if this is sustainable in the regular season?

For me, it’s valid feedback for Coach Clifford & media to consider.
I’m surprised at the AtTheHive editor reaction of “This is not sustainable”, why not be more positive that JLin can contribute 3 out of these 7 #1 ranks?

If people prioritize Hornets to win, they should be glad that JLin is such a great contributor rather than being a nay-sayer. To me, it’s like finding a great penny stock that might generate large ROI but some would say, “That will never happen!”. It’s mind-boggling

It’s amazing to see how people in Hornets media choose to be negative more than positive. It’s good that some like DartboardTrader & DeShawn White are positive on JLin

    • Alain Gervais

Chis pauls usage rate average is 23. Westbrook is 38 last year. Stephen Curry is 28. Tony parker is average is 25.7. John wall is 26. I think Chris paul should be lins model. Ginobili is 24 just for fun.

    • Alain Gervais

What they think of Lins play is irregardless of the point. Lins play will speak for itself. I don’t get the need for validation from them. Saying Lin won’t average 45 percent form three isn’t a bold prediction given he hadn’t done it before but if y’all would allow lin to do it then your point would be valid. Main point is only person who can sell Lin is Lin himself. He did it during Insanity. He can do it again.

    • Rick Johnson

From what Wesley Johnson said coach doesn’t tell them anything. Sound about right.

      http://la.suntimes.com/la-sports/7/88/377416/wes-johnson-lakers-comments

“You would go out there and want to play the right way, but everyone wanted to prove themselves,” Johnson said as the Clippers wrapped up their brief training camp at UC Irvine.

“So nobody really knew what was going on. Nobody ever knew, so it was hard for anyone to come in and get into a good rhythm or flow. Nobody was playing together.”

    • GoodDayLA

Psalm, I’m just saying they already have this info and more crazy stuff they look at. I already know Lin should be starting at PG paired ideally with a Klay Thompson or Bradley Beal or if he wakes up – a Jeremy Lamb .

And deep down inside, you know why the hornets official and unofficial media is negative or doubting on Jlin. We all know why. Khuang in his exxagerated way, has told us all why.

    • GoodDayLA

i could have told you that. but alas I did not coach or play in the NBA.

I do see a lot of actual plays and second screens set for Lin. I am really happy to see it.

I cannot hate on the coaches or team.

I think they just need to see Lin is really at this level. If it sustains, they will lean on him more and more.

Its on Lin to gain their trust.

    • golfhacker

To the majority of NBA “fans” a star or franchise player is the one who scores the most points on the team. I will admit that is partly logical. Obviously being able to score is important. Historically, the NBA has been littered with “natural” scorers – George Gervin, Bernard King, Allen Iverson, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Carmelo Anthony are a few examples. Such players will shoot 20+ times a game because their coaches will let them because that is what they do “best”. Sure they will average 20+ ppg. Does that translate to wins or championships when the rest of the 10 or so players on the team averages 8 ppg?

What Jeremy does “best” is he makes his teammates better. Jeremy led a bunch of no-name players in NY (exception Tyson Chandler and an injury-hobbled Amare Stoudamire), with wins over the Lakers, Mavericks, Wizards and their superstar players, putting the Knicks in playoff contention (and then Carmelo returned to the lineup). Ed Davis had a career FG% of about 53.8% (which is nothing to sneeze at btw). But in one season playing with Jeremy, Davis shot 60.1% – a 12% improvement which I believe is significant.

Jeremy has tremendous court vision which of course does not show up on a stat sheet and clearly flourishes when there is spacing on the floor and the ball moves around. Coach Clifford’s system suits Lin perfectly and there doesn’t appear to be any selfish players on the team, which is crucial for any chance of success. I think Jeremy can average 16 ppg and if they rest of the team can make up 84 points (with a nine-man rotation, that’s a little over 10 points per player) the team will score 100 points per game which should bode well considering our defense should be above average. If the offense plays like it did in the preseason, Kemba, Batum and Al should easily average 16 ppg as well. There is balanced scoring on this team, which will be fun to watch.

For those of you lamenting Al Jefferson’s role on the team as far as his seemingly incongruous post-up game, I personally believe it is good for the team. It gives the offense a sort of balance. You can’t give the defense the same look all the time. Is he slow on defense? Perhaps. I think putting Hansbrough on the floor at PF with Big Al for 10 mins a game would give Al some help with rebounding and clogging up the paint.

I apologize for the long-winded post. Just thinking out loud and can’t wait for the regular season to start!

    • GoodDayLA

Balance, tell that to Golden State. OTherwise, nice post!

If Al gets his game back, then yeah he needs 20 shots a game. BUt he needs to hit about 60% FG

    • TTNN

USG will be high if you shot a lot, have a lot of TOs etc., however, guys dominate the ball but do not shot will shown as lower USG%. So not really a good indicator for PGs. For that, I’d like take account of assist opportunities, touches etc. to see how involved Lin is. But by eye test, I’m going to worry about Lin, so I don’t care about those numbers too much now.

    • ZcodeSportSystem.com

I agree with you on Al Jefferson and the fact that his “post-up” presence gives Charlotte the balance needed when the shots aren’t falling from the guards.

Al still demands attention and he still gets double-teamed for the most part…but his weakness is once he catches it on the low-block, he usually doesn’t pass out quick enough or is too eager to quickly take the shot instead of being patient and wait for the double-team to arrive and kick it back out for a 3.

If Al can learn how to pass out the double team, Charlotte could really be a good team and even make it into the top 4 team in the east…That would also create a load of open shots for Jeremy, Kemba and Batum.

    • TTNN

I thought that play is for shooters like JJ Redic, but Lin has run it with either shoot it, or bring it further into the paint, and then kick out to Batum make it even more dangerous, I’m pretty sure coach is very happy that Lin could do all these, and on the other hand, I’m glad Lin was holding the shooter status very well. Love that.

    • Rick Johnson

It’s going to be a boring week waiting until the season starts.

    • TTNN

yeah, after all, it is pre-season, the defense is at different level when regular season start. You could tell what Robert could do in his first 4 preseason game vs. he last 4 preseason game.

    • GoodDayLA

your second paragraph is exactly what I see. Its why Lin singlehandedly beat Utah when AL was there by like 40 points every single time. Sure Utah had bad guards, but Al also wasn’t passing it out of the double quickly enough.

    • TTNN

yeah, also could be he is getting used to females now?

    • GoodDayLA

LOL if JOhn Wall is #11, Lin is #10 best NBA player. It’s not because of that summer league game either. It’s during Linsanity when Lin played versus Washington and owned that matchup overall in ter,s of game control and winning by a good margin.

Lin will never get the respect he deserves from the NBA, but as long a he wins and they dont start calling too many phantom fouls on him, he’ll take Charlotte far enough this season.

    • BobbyH

Totally agree. Now it is up to Lin to deliver and shut up those doubters.

    • wu kong

      – Tiger fan

    • Rick Johnson

Exactly. He’s looking confident and looking more for his shot which is a good sign. Only shaky part was that first quarter against Detroit with Kemba out. But I think that had to do more with coaches game plan of feeding Jefferson in the post. Made me think that if that is all they wan’t him to do as a starter let Kemba do that and JLin can come in with an energetic bench.

    • Rick Johnson

    • real-dsb

      I agree with that statement.

    • real-dsb

well, I think you get burned either way with Klay, who I think is the best SG in the league. If you go over the screen, then he’ll dribble for an even closer jumper.

    • real-dsb

NBA doesn’t pick, the coach does. And the coach doesn’t care about NBA revenue. They usually just look out for their own players.

    • Alain Gervais

      ok thx

    • GoodDayLA

i mean that’s an easy one. Knicks play in soft east.

    • GoodDayLA

Sample size not enough. We’ve all seen Lin’s shot come and go. He’s started hot in Houston 2.0 only to fade. Sure the coach and team was against him but he faded under heavy duress.

Now without the same duress to deal with, he’ll have to step up and be one of the most consistent players in NBA history game to game. He almost is not allowed to EVER have a bad game because as an Asian trailblazer, luxury and second chances are not afforded to him.

    • FrankW

Jeremy Lin preseason per 36 minutes, 5 games played:
      21.3 points, 4.5 assists, 6.8 rebounds, 2.5 turnovers
      Also 58.1% FG, 46.2% 3P!

      I know, I know … small sample.

    • real-dsb

Lakers because they are in WC

    • Rick Johnson

It will always be too small a sample, or can he do it against championship teams, can he do it in the playoffs. Won’t stop until he wears a ring. Actually come to think of it even CP3 still gets criticism and doubt because he hasn’t won a ring yet.

    • BobbyH

It is BS vs Fisher. I would pick BS.

    • GoodDayLA

Jlin’s stroke is on another level compared to past years. It really has. Also, he is doing so many stepbacks this season. He always had it but didn’t do it very often even during Linsanity. Now we are seeing loads of step backs from the guy.

If he can keep hitting on the catch and on the stepbacks even at 46% FG, he’s going to produce like an elite NBA all star whether or not the media and NBA and ESPN give him any credit.

I’m still not sold his shot will hold up but for I also think this season will be spectacular for him personally.

    • Yes, ultimately JLin’s play would have to show the same good stats in the regular season (of course with similar role that Coach Clifford has given freedom in the preseason)

What would be good it to assert influence to them before regular season of JLin’s strong plays.
If it helps the discussion to give JLin greater role, that would be good.
If not, we’ll just have to wait and see how Coach Clifford uses JLin. That’s the key.
We and CHA media can only analyze and/or show support at the moment.

    • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Did you think he was gay or something?

    • steven ko

problem is that those two shoot a low percentage compared to Lin.

    • JW

JVG I think understand how the game is play. It’s a team sport. Zach and many others are just stuck on this individual defense that they lost with MKG.

He believes Hornets will win over 50%. So he has them over 41 wins then.

    • Rick Johnson

Hoping his shot hold out. Dr. Scheppler said he can do it but needs to believe in his shot like Scheppler believes in it. He started out with hot shooting the beginning of his second year for a few months then it appeared he was a having problems with back spasms and then wasn’t as hot anymore the rest of the season. Hopefully it will be more sustained this year.

    • webattorney

It’s not the problem that Al is a post player; it’s that he doesn’t do it very well, and his D and physicality is not there. 1 Drummond > 2 Als.

    • Michael

Lin always has such a nice “feel” for the game. (Pure basketball talk)

    • JW

Yea. That step back is gonna be critical for his success. A lot of good shooter has that to get some space.

Right now people don’t expect that from him. Once he is scouted with that shot, he will get an easier path to the basket which is getting cut off because that’s what he’s currently known for.

Clippers without CP3 will not make playoff in the Western Conf. You have to look at the entire season and not look at 2 or 3 games. Same thing with Rockets. Now, if Lin was the substitute for either CP3 or Harden, they will make playoffs. Having said this, no way do I think CP3 is the best PG; that title clearly belongs to Curry. And has been for at least 2 seasons.

    • JW

Thought he had a chance. Guess they went for the younger guy.

    • positive is better

It’ll be interesting to see how his # changes this year if he’s in a better defensive scheme.
      With Tyson Chandler in 2012, he’s +0.2

    • Dorothy

Will he Wilkins get paid for his contract?

    • webattorney

Quick search didn’t find anything. But teams sometimes sign 10 day contracts. Maybe that’s what he got.

Edit: maybe that’s why he didn’t actually sign until Hornets got back from China. So it would’ve just been one 10 day contract.

    • JJ Hui

I guess coach C wants to win this year for the sake of his job and reputation. He will let Lin plays with freedom, who knows, may be MDA has some influence to coach C if he wants to win this year!! Just guessing!

    • Alain Gervais

This is nicer then i thought it would be. Really focused on the good. Randle is the most talented of the three.

    • Alain Gervais
    • JW

So they got rid of 4 players to get to 15. So they didn’t put MKG on permanent injury list to keep an extra player? Are they hoping MKG gets back for the playoffs?

    • Acbc

      Great vid, lmao.

    • GoodDayLA

and I agree he should. Penny Hardaway was really good for 1 or 2 seasons. And the rest he faded away. Lin is no different. 2 months of Linsanity is not going to cut it.

He needs 5-7 years of top level sustained play to really make his mark, startig with this season.

    • Alain Gervais

It said 6 month which should be mid march.

    • JW

OK. I guess will need him to guard LeBron when Hornets gets into the playoffs.

    • yes, Randle is very agile and has great touch.
It’s too bad JLin didn’t get to play with him last year.

    • man, I want one .. I’ll name it “Fur-sanity”

    • Rick Johnson

Hairston was already on the team?

    • Rick Johnson

This one would be more Fur-sanity:

    • oh yeah, no doubt people have the secondary racism (even Nash had it before) of NBA players fitting a certain stereotype

I know they have the stats, I’m just presenting it strongly and aesthetically for further discussion.
Otherwise it’s in the back-burner. It’ll show Lin fans understand advanced stats support JLin’s plays on-court. We gotta keep presenting the truth out there. It’ll take some time to change the paradigm

Can’t wait for the regular season games

    • real-dsb

aw man, too bad for Wilkins. I thought they would only have to cut 3 since MKG would be an injury exception?

    • That’s a Lintelligent guess. It’s Coach C last year of the contract and he’ll need JLin to help Hornets win to show that he can coach and win big. I trust Jeremy when he said Coach C knows his game.

It’ll a symbiotic relationship between Coach Cliff & JLin. They need each other to succeed.

    • real-dsb

Ah, saw other post below that they want MKG back before end of season.

    • yes, very reminiscent to Redick getting multiple screens to free him up to shoot.

In this case, JLin found an open Batum but if Al or Zeller is open, he’ll find them.
Or he can shoot it himself w/o the triple-team

    • Coach Cliff definitely has trust in JLin as a decision-maker to make the right play at the situation.
With more plays like this, we’ll be more assured that Cliffy knows how to use JLin’s strength well

    • real-dsb

Thompson, Washburn, Elliot no surprise, they were only camp invites.

As much as I didn’t want Hairston and Roberts on the team, they had guaranteed contracts, so too much to give up there. So Wilkins was waived. =(

    • JW

surprise you and Rick saw my post since I changed it to “duplicate” an hour ago. I put something back in again though now.

    • real-dsb

I doubt that he had any guaranteed portion.

Should @JLin7 start as SG at least 10 games?
PRO: Great playmakers+get teams in early FT trouble
      CONS: Less rebounds

      https://twitter.com/JLinPortal/status/657688952661372929

    • John Lee

Last season Jeremy was top PG in blocks at one point, above Bledsoe, and ended up top five (if not top three). That however, didn’t change his D rep a bit. So I’d rather not see him risk injury doing something that no one appreciates in a PG anyways. If anything I’d like to see more steals.

    • John Lee

Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A.

    • David Kim

Lin is the best SG in this team. He definitely should start.

    • your son’s voltaire

i was once a fan of bballbreakdown but now he covers the lakers like 90% of the time. and they’re all designed to make lakers look good. no more truth in what he says. possibly eyeing a coaching gig with them. smh

    • GoodDayLA

dont get the 10 game thing. Please explain.

    • John Lee

Except that Randle seems to like to play PG, and had 6 TOs last game, one short of the Lakers’ rising star PG Huertas, who had 7.

    • Based on strong preseason stats, JLin should be given at least the 1st 10 games to start as SG (or dual PG)

I believe if Hornets are willing to try them, they will see that the fewer rebounding concern will be alleviated.
They won’t look back since the Lin/Kemba/Batum playmaking will set the tone early & get teams in early FT.
If they go 8-2 or 7-3, they’ll stick with the lineup longer

Lin is a great rebounder for a PG so Kemba/Lin would be better than Bledsoe/Dragic.

    • Alain Gervais

Idk but i get the feeling that this is pointless. From all indication Lin won’t start but coach cliff left the door open. So ill just wait 5 days

    • David Kim

When Lin started vs Clippers in china, Hornets got 55 rebounds total. that was more than other games.

    • Great point! And the Clippers tried to win in that game

    • Best PG/SG for sure .. but we’ll make Kemba feel better as the de-facto PG

    • David Kim

      yup

    • Rick Johnson

He got into early foul trouble as SG though and didn’t play a lot of minutes. I’d like to see him stay on the floor more and I think his strength is making other players better when he controls the ball which he won’t do as much as SG.

    • GoodDayLA

i see. I think reality is that Lin plays more MPG as a starter unless he’s one of those low usage starters, which he is not. So max minutes with players who make winning plays make sense to me.

I cannot see a scenario where it makes sense not to start Lin on this team. You play the best guys and backups on most teams play spot duty.

Lin can basically be like a JJ Reddick who can dribble and drive and pass and not just shoot if Lin can keep up his 3 point shot.

Still starting Lin at SG is like putting lipstick on a pig. So I don’t really care.

But starting Lin at SG is still better than Lin playing backup PG behind Kemba if the team ONLY cares about winning.

But I’m sure all NBA team value other things than winning.

In LA, KObe sells even if the team is in misery.

    • GoodDayLA

Starting Lin at SG is a win win for Lin haters and Lin fans.

Lin fans can say see Lin is really good! He is an elite NBA player!

Lin haters can say well see we told you Lin was a backup PG! He’s just also a starting SG. We never said he wasn’t a starting SG did we? So really, we proved you right Lin fans!

      Everyone wins!

    • David Kim

When Harden out 8 games in Houston, Lin played well around 18 pts and 5 assists as SG. He played lots of mins and didn’t have much foul troubles. I think Lin will play better than those days.

    • I think he’ll learn quickly not to foul too much like in the Pistons or Bulls game.
So far he got max 3 PFs in the last 5 games.
He got 4 in the 1st ORL game

My hope is Kemba/Lin will be dual-PG on the floor. Too much to expect Kemba to play PG 100%, especially during crunch time.

    • Chris B.

The fouls he committed are easily correctable. If you watched, it’s because he was overall aggressive and helping his teammates. It’s not because he was over-powered or he got beat. Actually, it’s easier for him to guard SG than chasing PG and fighting over screens. That is where I worried most about his fouls.

    • GoodDayLA

ANyone know when the HOrnets have to accounce the starters? I assume they just do it Wednesday like 2 hours before the game to mess with MIami.

    • David Kim

      dual PG can work

    • real-dsb

I gotta think they’re going to assign him to DLeague

    • steven ko

which means Philly can’t get their pick again

    • David Kim

Before the MKG out, i somewhat agreed the idea of lin playing as back up PG. but not anymore.
If you look at the Spurs starting line up (Parker, Green, Leonard, Aldridge, Duncan), its best five line up in each position.
Is Ginobili better than Parker as PG? No
Is Ginobili better than Green as SG? No.
Is Ginobili better than Leonard as SF? No.
If Ginobili better than them in either position, he should start.
When Pop asked Ginobili that he should come off the bench, Ginobili said “It hurts” in his interview. He didn’t want to come off the bench. He said that he understands why young players doesnt want to come off the bench. I think Lin wants to start as SG than PG as back up. Lin is the best PG and SG in this team. So there is no way he should come off the bench.
Hornets second unit is not that bad compare to other teams.

Kemba, Batum, Marvin, Cody and Jefferson starting line up is not enough to beat other good team staring line up.

I think Kemba, Lin, Batum. Cody, Jefferson starting line up is best so far. Lin and Kemba can play as dual PG.

    • CJSHYY

I agree w you. Lin as SG pretty much just a CnS shooter & not as fun as he’s a PG.

    • Rick Johnson

It’s still pretty risky. Even if the Lakers get last place, they are not insured to get a top 3 pick. Look at NYK who finished 2nd to last fell out of top 3 to #4. Looking at the table on Wikipedia:

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_draft_lottery

last place 64.3% at top 3 pick
2nd to last 55.8% of top 3 pick
3rd to last 46.9% of top 3 pick
4th to last 37.8% of top 3 pick
5th to last 29.2% of top 3 pick

So even in last place there is a 35.7% chance of losing that top 3 pick.

Doesn’t matter, Lin can play PG with the bench players when Walker is resting with staggered minutes! Also Lin, Walker, and Batum can all take turns handling the ball.

    • Chris B.

If you watched the game, you will see that he has been getting lots of screens and picks. Only on rare occasions where I have seen him catch and shoot. I only wish that coach would let him push the ball up when there is an opportunities for a fast break.

    • FrankW

I think the Hive Talk Live guys guess it’s Monday, don’t hold me to it.

    • LAJane

Man it’s brutal…it seemed so fated with the delayed flights and all. And now I suppose he’s also screwed out of the season he was about to play in Venezuela. Painful.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Lin learns how to draw fouls from James Harden; even before that he got fouled a lot too.
Lin learns to go one on one; perhaps, he watches how Kobe went one on one but I do think he copies more from Curry than Kobe. Anyway, Lin can go one on one this season and he has proved that in the preseason against Marcus Morris, JJ Redick, Jimmy Butler and Gerald Green.

    • John Lee

I love it how Pistons and Magic, both having lost to Hornets in the preseason, are giving Hawks and Grizzlies a solid beating, respectively.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Good grief.
Clifford does make a good decision.
Too bad that Wilkins doesn’t play more aggressively.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      No.

    • FrankW

But everything converted back to analog for consumption by humans.

    • KHuang

The Grizzlies and Hawks are not playing their starters.

Meanwhile, my man Andrew Nicholson on Orlando is KILLING IT like he always does.

Nicholson had 22 off the bench against Lin’s Hornets. Of all the big men the Hornets have faced, Nicholson has done the most damage out of all of them in the least amount of playing time.

I wouldn’t mind trading any of the Hornets big men other than Hansbrough and Kaminsky to Orlando for Nicholson.

    • KHuang

In the 80s, players did this all the time.

People are so politically correct now.

    • KHuang

I don’t like Lin with the starters.

I like Lin starting, but I dislike the play of the starters. Not one of them impresses me in the slightest, not even Nicolas Batum who’s a standstill role player who as bad as James Harden in defending shooting guards.

The bench is better than the starters, and I prefer Lin play with them because they make it easier on him.

    • KHuang

Well, the team will also win more with Lin at starting SG than at starting PG.

Even if the Hornets benched Walker and promoted a fully capable Lamb, the play of the starters outside of Lamb is so ineffectual that it’s going to be heavy double and triple teams for either Lin or Lamb.

At least when Lin’s off the ball, opponents cannot double and triple him as easily because he’s cutting around as he shakes defenders off him.

    • KHuang

The early foul trouble was not because Lin was SG.

It’s because the starters played so atrociously defensively that Lin tried to protect them by sacrificing himself. It DID NOT WORK.

Lin learned his lesson last game and let Drummond eat up the halfhearted Al Jefferson.

    • KHuang

      He can’t.

      The starters CANNOT RUN.

    • KHuang

Because Lin is the best SG on the team, he’ll do more damage playing with the more talented bench than with the clueless unathletic starters.

    • TTNN

LOL, even spell out Lin’s Chinese name….

      ‏@PeteGuelli, @Hornets

    • Rick Johnson

That’s how I feel. Watching JLin play with the starters with Kemba out and just bringing up the ball and passing to Jefferson in the post reminded me of him bringing up the ball and passing to Kobe. As long as they are going to start off playing slow like watching paint dry Jeffersonball I’d rather him play with run and gun second unit. Jeffersonball seemed to take JLin totally out of rhythm. Feel sorry for Kemba having to do that duty. Heck even Roberts can do that and play ball valet for Jefferson. Even Ronnie Price could do that.

JLin can close with the starters in the 4th if he hasn’t run the other team out of the arena already beforehand.

    • heart

Anyone watching the Spurs playing? Their passing is incredible this year. They make
it looks so easy and effortless. The Rockets just don’t know which
hands the ball will end up. The Spurs offense seems more creative this
year. Hornets needs to use some of their passing/offense scheme.

    • BobbyH

Mavs winless in preseason, sign of things to come?

    • John Lee

Couldn’t have said it better myself, but tiger fans are blinded by apprehension and they ignore chemistry and playing style.

    • DaBoss

good game – Miami loses to NO. So according to Heat announcers the starting unit has only played a total of 28 minutes together this preseason so may not have fully meshed yet. 2nd unit may need to be used more if things are not clicking. that Gerald Green is pretty good – Hornets will need to play excellent D on him come Wednesday.

    • John Lee

This is the year Dragic is exposed of his being overrated.

    • CJSHYY

So Mav is going to fight w Lakers for who is the worst team in NBA next season? LOL!

    • CJSHYY

I think he’s but he got his money already….

One bad thing watching the Spurs vs Rockets is the broadcast commentators. Their voices provoke deja vu bad feelings. I have to mute them already.

    • CJSHYY

What did they talk about Lawson? Not good in D so have to be bench?

    • John Lee

I wonder who has Lakers’ top 3 protected pick next year, Suns or Sixers? I remember it being part of the Nash trade to Suns, whom may have given it to Sixers in a later trade (seeing Lakers keeping BS hints more tanking).

EDIT: Confirmed it, it’s Sixers. http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed

2016 first round draft pick to Philadelphia
      L.A. Lakers’ 1st round pick to Philadelphia (via Phoenix) protected for selections 1-3 in 2016 and 1-3 in 2017 and unprotected in 2018 [L.A. Lakers-Phoenix, 7/11/2012; Milwaukee-Philadelphia-Phoenix, 2/19/2015]

      Sixers?

    • heart

TL is being Linned to please Harden IMO. We’ve been there w/ the ‘fit’ theory.

    • CJSHYY

Lawson will go to bench or be traded in the future. No matter what he do…If I remember correctly every time when Lawson started w Harden Rox lose for this preseason. Today is the first time to bench him. smh! So happy no need to deal w Rox anymore.

    • Rick Johnson

      Sixers have it.

    • heart

Feel bad for TL. A few minutes I saw, Bev was playing like crap.

    • Rzo Vlade

he is injured not serious but tight back

    • TTNN

How Gerald Green signed with a minimum contract with heat, do you know?

    • CJSHYY

I see so not bench him? Still feel bad for him to be next to Harden.

    • CJSHYY

      I agree. smh!

    • Rzo Vlade

it happen in the game so he didn’t went back stay in locker room……but still you can see rockets play still stagnant and rely on harden

    • LAJane

Wow…that really is a fabulous pass. Everybody in sync. Worked perfectly!

    • CJSHYY

That’s for sure. Just from the time he played w Harden can tell… who is in charge the ball? smh!

    • DaBoss

No idea – don’t know much about him but remember when Hornets played Miami in preseason he stood out as a good shooter – and again tonight against NO.

    • steven ko

the only way Lin plays 30+ minutes is starting. otherwise, it’ll be more like 28 minutes per game

    • kittyhead

So happy Lin didnt go there and get away from BS!! Yes!!

    • real-dsb

      Or ShuHow

    • steven ko

if Lin doesn’t start, team will lose most 1st quarters and may even trail by double digits after Q1 in most games. in order to keep the starters minutes down and keep them fresh over the long season is to start Lin. then they will be able to put teams away early and have the reserves play more.

    • John Lee

Mavs have no incentive to tank, they already gave next year’s picks away to Boston.

    • steven ko

      and blocked a lin jumper

    • John Lee

Jeremy has the common Taiwanese “lazy” tongue (not curling) when speaking Mandarin, which results in Shu being mispronounced as Su. Kaminsky’s only spelling it the way he heard it pronounced.

      haha I understand it.

    • golfhacker

Those picks were for Rondo? Haha!!

    • grover chang

LIn had trouble with Green’s length, people here posting Lin should not be a SG, me included. He looked bad against green. Will be interesting to see how Lin adjusts on their second meeting.

The Rondo trade was for Nelson, Wright, Crowder, a conditional 2015 1st round AND a 2016 2nd round. TOTALLY stupid trade that cost them the post-season. Without the trade Mavs would’ve beat Rox and advanced.

Their 2016 first round pick also belongs to Boston, but I don’t remember how it got there.

    • JLin Fan from Australia
    • grover chang

Too bad Kwame Brown is too old and out of the league. If he was in his prime and paired up with Lin I think he would look pretty good on this team. Rebound, protect the rim, and put back lobs. Very quick for a big man when he was young. He is forever tied to MJ’s reputation as being a bad evaluator of talent. He wasn’t that bad, played for like 12 years in the league. Kwame with Lin would’ve restored some of MJ reputation.

    • real-dsb

Collaboration videos and handshakes surely to come.

    • TTNN

they do, their pick is top 7 protected, so they could save their pick if they tank……

    • John Lee

Well, in that case it’ll be a tough competition. Lakers have BS the Tank Commander, but Mavs have a whole bunch of starters who can’t even show up (CP25, Matthews, DW).

    • Yascar

And please God let them dance ?

    • steven ko

Gerald looked bad against Lin too. he shot poorly including an air ball

    • David Kim

Manu Ginobili Average minute played last 10 years: 26.42 min
      05-06 27.9 min
      06-07 27.5 min
      07-08 31.0 min
      08-09 26.8 min
      09-10 28.7 min
      10-11 30.3 min
      11-12 23.3 min
      12-13 23.2 min
      13-14 22.8 min
      14-15 22.7 min

I thought Ginobibi played around 30 min but only 26.42 min played last 10 years.
If Jeremy comes off the bench, he will only average around 28-30 mins.
If he starts, he will average 32-35 min. Its big difference.
I concern Lin playing with AI because he wants ball in the post a lot. But i think coach will adjust that if he keeps asking ball too much in the post. Every players will not have perfect 5 players for them. They have to adjust and sacrifice each other to be a good team.

    • Rick Johnson
    • Maknusia

WOW…thats a beautiful ball movement and player rotation!

    • Rick Johnson

Of course he’d be his favorite player. He’s the one holding the ball deciding who to pass to.

    • KHuang

Kwame Brown indeed would be just fine with Lin.

He actually helped this Charlotte team quite a bit before he was signed away.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

Did you ever hear that kind of respect from the 2nd round rookie Clarkson when Lin was there? Not only a big NO, Clarkson think he’s a true shoot first PG. He often ignored Lin wide open.

    • Maknusia

Agree with you…he had it, but he didnt get time to practice it enough to use it in the game. The same with iso moves, we had seen him doing it since Linsanity but not often…one would need enough practice and bring the confidence over during game time.

Jeremy has the game, unfortunately he was not under a good coaching system to polish his skills…hence season after season we are witnessing the better Lin as he takes time-off to working on polishing this skills. Sky is the limit for Lin.

    • Steppen03

At this point, just take one step at a time. Just trust coach Cliff and Lin. If the team is doing well enough without Lin starting then I will have No problem. If the team is Not then the “smart” coach have to make adjustments. I think coach will mix it up a little.
I really want to see Lin with Two Bigs in Frank & Hawes – and he CAN have the ball Most of the time. He CAN score 10-15 points in a quarter as PG, and then another 15-20 points as SG. I want the team to win. That’s All. I really think Lin can take over games with 2nd unit and be that closer in the 4th with starters. I want Lin to push the 1st unit to do well. We will see.

    • Maknusia

      well said…agreed

    • Maknusia

should we penalize him for that!

    • GoodDayLA

starting is more important for Lins career than being super 6th man. Unless Lin is starting PG, everything else is lipstick on a pig.

Between super 6th man and starting SG, I’ll take starting SG every time. Because the Hornets are screwed either way and Lin will get more $ and cred being a starter than 6th man bench warmer.

    • Maknusia

I think we should do every 8 games hence, there will be total of 10 stats for the whole season…that would also give a better indication of his consistency or we could also do every 10 games and in total, for 8 times for the season

    • GoodDayLA

Clifford is not playing the bench long enough for lin to get going with them.

    • John Lee

So much for the “best basketball player” and the Beverine.

    • GoodDayLA

      Al was atrocious

    • GoodDayLA

the starters can run. Al cannot run. The others can.

    • KL

Just to be clear I still hope that Lin will be a starter. But I am prepared to enjoy the season anyway even if he comes off the bench. It will be better than the last 3 seasons for sure.

    • John Lee

Your positivity is why I love you.

    • Maknusia

      lol…good choice

    • CJSHYY

Haha! I think Rox will not as good as last season. It’s about time….. LOL!

    • John Lee

Josh Smith actually helped a lot, it beats me why they got rid of him…stealing thunder from Har_en? Not that I’m complaining…

Knicks also had a decent season after letting Lin go, and then abysmal darkness. Looks like history will repeat itself with Rox.

    • CJSHYY

Just went to Hornets FB… https://www.facebook.com/hornets?fref=ts

Check this new & saw the picture Lin & Kemba. Somehow I think Lin will start….”Opening Night is almost here! ‪#‎EnterTheSwarm‬ with us by adding the same frame to your profile pic ? ‪#‎BuzzCity‬”

    • John Lee

I don’t think that there’s a single person here who does not want Lin to start, but if it means that Jeremy’s magic may be at least partially nullified by “feed Big Al”, then playing bench with a whole bunch of quick and talented passing bigs isn’t so blasphemous.

A recurring topic seems to be PT, I’d venture to say that if Lin gets 29-32 minutes of PT consistently, gets his brand of playmaking duty, and closes out games, most fans here would be content as victories WILL pile up.

    • GoodDayLA

not enough minutes to do much off bench. this isn’t college with a 2nd wave like classic Kentucky teams.

    • GoodDayLA

      sensible.

    • GoodDayLA

i love how all the local media and lame twitter Hornet jokers are hoping so badly Lin will be a 6th man.

    • CJSHYY

So funny. This tweet most RT by Lin’s fans….LOL! Rox’s fans don’t care anymore….?!

    • heart

Watched one of Lin’s Harvard old game tapes, commentators mentioned that Lin’s a good rebounder. Coach Clifford in one of the post games said Lin is a good rebounder.

    • GoodDayLA

I had hoped Clifford would have cajones and do what Steve Kerr did. Unfortunately the Hornets do not. So we’ll be stuck with the typical NBA crap.

    • CJSHYY

Exactly, I think w/o him Rox couldn’t beat Clippers in round 2 playoff. But also bc he played so well that Harden got benched in 4Q for the first time…. My guess is Rox don’t want to keep D12 (since this is his contract year for player’s option) if they resigns w JSmith then D12 maybe stay…. Harden wants to have his own brand team no one else can share that w him.

    • heart

Of course, Lin’s passes are the best on team. He needs the bigs to pass to him too and so far I see Hawes and Batum can be the bigs creative passers. The other bigs can pass decently, except Al. Al’s passes seem weak and far and between. Do you think so?

    • Maknusia

One of the reason we like CoachC, is because he had done his homework on Lin and understands Lin’s game. Depending on game situation, we hope to see him use Lin well to Hornets advantage.

    • John Lee

David Lee is way better than Jefferson, but I do see your point. That being said, Clifford may or may not have the same level of autonomy from the higher ups as Kerr, and may have to craft his way around to achieve what he wants. I still say give him some time and/or benefit of the doubt.

    • Maknusia

Exactly, its too early to be decisive on anything

    • John Lee

Yup, Jefferson’s like a black hole. Reminds me a bit of last year’s Jordan Hill.

    • GoodDayLA

10 years ago he was very good. he got old and looks way too slow and unathletic now.

    • jlim7

Cuban said they will tank, if DJ cancelled his signing. We can see now he meant what he said, that is why they didn’t sign Lin, because with Lin and Carlisle, they will be impossible to tank. But now with 3 starters cannot show up and average centers, even Carlisle will not be able to make them compete for playoff.

They will still be very good this year. I give props to ant team in West that makes playoff. 8th spot playoff team from West probably can beat 3rd place playoff team from East. In playoff, they should have 1st place team from West play 8th place team from East and vice versa. That way, two best teams in NBA gets to Finals.

Assuming the starting line up doesn’t include Jeremy for this season accomplish similar results like last result’s, then we are most likely be sure of :
1). Charlotte doesn’t make the playoffs
2). Starters’ value plummeted and trade value suffer too
3). Even if Jeremy’s made the 6th man, the deficits by the starters are too big for the 2nd & 3rd units to catch up and win games
4). Even if the 2nd and 3rd units manage to catch up and win games, these catch up games will only wear and tear them down and the team will ultimately lose most games.

So my humble opinion is to START Jeremy for 2 very simple reasons: win games and elevate the starters i.e. Big Al, Kemba values.

    • yes to 29-32min of PT with playmaking + closing out
Lots of Ws will definitely follow.

    • GoodDayLA

i cannot agree with anything you said at all except I too would prefer Lin start because his career will go better. Whether or not it helps the team don’t really matter because there are politics and logjams on the roster the team or Clifford don’t want to deal with, at least not yet.

    • GoodDayLA

Nah these guys are too quick to try to shoebox Lin into benchwarmer. Lin doesn’t need any backhanded compliments.
Even worse, some of these people think they are being complimentary towards Lin with tweets like this because they cannot imagine a world in which Lin is a starter and as good as we know he is.

    • The thing is JLin is good enough to get CHA to the playoffs as 6th Man of the Year with the freedom of playmaking + closing out games w/ multiple trips to the FT line

One possible scenario of why Hornets might not want to start JLin will be to strengthen bench but still get great values for incumbent starters during crunch time (Kemba+Al scoring to inflate their trade values)

The thing is noone will touch Kemba $48M contract with last season less-than-efficient stats. ESPN analysts called him backup PG. Even if Kemba’s values are inflated, he might not get traded since there might not be better trade asset & he signed Jordan brand.

Finally if Kemba/Lin are clicking, Clifford and Rich Cho probably want to keep it intact so they can make the playoff, not integrate new player and jeopardizing chemistry.

Whatever it might be, as long as Coach Clifford plays Lin’s strength for 29-32 min & to close out games as @disqus_W4kOOens57:disqus said, Hornets have great chance of making deep playoff run, 6th Man of the Year, & other accolades

    • And JLin likes fashion so … hmmmmm

    • I think some also recognized the logjam at PG with Kemba as the $48M incumbent so the next best choice is to have JLin as 6th Man of the Year since he’ll probably leave after this year due to his great plays.

They don’t know JLin might stay for less money if they start him & play dual PG with Kemba if he likes the system & how Hornets trusts him.

    • Yellow

Harvard is famous for producing politicians..you never know Jeremy might have learnt a thing or two to counter those politics though I believe Jeremy hates playing politics in the first place.

    • Yellow

If the team can’t make the playoffs, can Jeremy win 6th man of the year?
Riding Jeremy like a secretariat might cause him injuries, i’m afraid…

    • Yellow

Can clearly tell from Jeremy’s body language that he’s “happy” to take pic with her. *.*

    • hm, probably not.
But if JLin gets good number to win 6th Man, there’s no way Hornets not make the playoff in the weak Eastern conference

It’s okay, starting or not, we just need Coach Clifford to continue using Lin’s strength to playmake + close out games. A confident Lin will continue to rack up Ws. Everything else will be taken care of afterwards

      YES, Starter!!!

    • yes, he likes to be “illustrated” LOL

    • Yellow

What’s the point of winning 6th Man if the team can’t make the playoff.
I don’t think winning that award( with the team losing, chances are slim) will solidify Jeremy’s status in the NBA and he gets to start on any team subsequently.

    • Yellow

      hahaha, wink wink

    • GoodDayLA

Jeremy has no bearing on the politics I’m talking about. It’s out of his control. All he can do is play so well as to create an issue as to what his role should be.

    • Riddick

I believe the illustration is of Lin & his 2 brothers of an earlier pic…not Lin/Kemba/Al

    • I’m less concerned w/ 6th Man of Year probability at this point.

My #1 hope is Coach Cliff will continue to allow JLin to be a playmaker next to Kemba/Batum to close out games; not just be used as decoy or spot-up shooter. It’s promising in the off-season to see how Kemba passed to a cutting JLin to get FTs but we’ll have to wait & see if it translates to regular season.

If JLin’s playmaking is limited, there won’t be playoffs or any awards since the Hornets won’t win as many games.

    • Yellow

The other 2 have beard so I think they are Kemba & Al

    • yes, in the tweet are Lin and his 2 bros

As a lin fan, why don’t we go with the same mindset as lin and enjoy the coming season because lin has found a coach and a team that he actually likes and the team seem to be very close without locker room drama. Whether lin starts or comes off the bench probably doesn’t matter to lin at this point because he wants to have the freedom to play his game. Clifford and MJ know what they have in their mist. It’s called a “game changer”, that who lin is. I would love for him to start in this league, but the reality of corporate America is that the face of corporate rules. Unfortunately in the NBA, the face of NBA players are African Americans a concept which lin understands quite well. Lin knows that what he is trying to accomplish in the NBA is not for the faint of heart and that is why he has upped his game so much, that the critics can’t ignore. He is changing the narrative on him slowly but most assuredly. So this season, I am going to see things through lin’s eyes and just watch him play the game he loves and have fun watching him do it.I will leave the drama to the peanut gallery. Off my soap box.

    • Rzo Vlade

really dont care if he start or not what I want is he has freedom and rip the league…..hornets are only a stop gap for jlin just to remove the negativity with the lakers and rockets……..goal is put numbers and make it to playoffs…….hornets aint going to far small market team have difficulty building championship personel………real target is the next season sign on a contender team and win a ring

      hornets have nothing to brag

    • joyce ward

I disagree. Hornets have a chance to make a huge impression in a very weak eastern conference .

    • Rzo Vlade

maybe they can crack the east but they are not winning the ring in finals against the west…….

I am guessing just a guess if golden state fail to win a championship again………..warriors will replace some of its player like barbosa and livingston……..jlin will come to the picture with the special help from friend curry………..

this season put up stats and make playoffs and if warriors fail to win a ring again GS might consider

    • KL

Just watched Open Court on NBA TV. Not sure when this was filmed but the panel of experts did not have anything good to say about the Charlotte Hornets. These experts are not expecting them to make the playoffs.

I will enjoy watching them eat crow later.

    • Maknusia

      Well said Joyce….well said

We had enough of 3 yrs of negativity, Lin wants to start on a positive note, we shall as well.

    • Maknusia

    • Yellow

I’m fully aware of the type of politics you’re talking about. For Jeremy to play at an elite level and his contribution to the team is unquestionable and irreplaceable that he has to be made a starter.
Jeremy advises people on combating bullying so I deeply believe that Jeremy would be very positive and channel his love of bball to play his brand of basketball..but in order to ensure that happen, he’d to do something.
I’m glad that he’s on a team which places considerably high amount of confidence in him and seems to allow him to play his role, but I believe Jeremy is smart and wise enough to know the extra stuff to be done…

    • Maknusia

      sweet!

    • Maknusia

definitely he takes some of your genes as well

      hahaha…shhhhh!

    • Maknusia

totally…we have seen improvement over the 3 yrs..lol

    • Steppen03

I rather he play 25+ min on a very good team with him being one of the leaders THAN on a championship team like the Spurs or GS -with 15+ min. and just another role player.
Getting Rings is Not everything if he don’t get to play to his full potential (as in Hou, behind Harden & Bev.). No, thanks.

    • KHuang

Please DO NOT get off your soap box!

    • KHuang

Heh heh, that lineup you proposed would be totally crushed by the Charlotte bench:

      PG: Lin
      SG: Lamb
      SF: Kaminsky
      PF: Hansbrough
      C: Hawes

    • KHuang

Lin cannot elevate the starters past a certain point.

We saw that in the Bulls and Pistons games.

The weak screening and clueless cutting and soft defense played by the starters, not even Lin can singlehandedly make up for all of that.

    • KHuang

My personal preference is Lin off the bench.

He’ll get better numbers because he’ll play with the better team.

    • KHuang

I prefer Lin come off the bench.

The starters are SO BAD, it would not be good for Lin’s career to be associated with them.

    • KHuang

GS would have their hands full with the Hornets, particularly the 2nd team that can outplay anyone on any given night.

When I wrote that this summer, Lin fans ridiculed and flamed me.

Watch. They won’t flame me now, after having seen the team play.

    • KHuang

I’m looking forward to the Charlotte bench getting its health back and playing together as a team.

Though they have a slight weakness in that Spencer Hawes can be physically outquicked on the boards on occasion, there’s enough athleticism and firepower to make up for that especially if the team’s best big man in Tyler Hansbrough plays.

There will also be games where the bench backcourt is Roberts and Lamb with Lin playing small forward. Sure Lin will be a “guard”, but Lin would draw the opposing small forward as his assignment anyway. That would particularly work if Tyler Hansbrough were on the court playing his customary rugged defense and cleaning up the rebounds.

    • KHuang

Open Court is a bunch of retired ex players who do nothing but COMPLAIN about how today’s game is “weaker” than when they played.

Interestingly, the best and most intelligent commentator on that show didn’t last long. That was Tracy McGrady who got taunted for complaining about how the abolition of the hated illegal defense rule caused his scoring average to drop from over 30 to the low 20s!

    • John Lee

    • John Lee

      You got it backwards.

He’s ALWAYS ballwatching, you use the word “caught” only when he’s unexpectedly defending.

    • Alain Gervais

Lins chances of starting is maybe 30 percent. Don’t be surprise if he don’t at least in the beginning.

    • KL

    • Wayne Li

Pros as starter: big minutes means good stats, no matter SG or PG.

Cons as starter: less PG, has to work hard on defense thus foul trouble.

Pros as bench: more PG and free with ball, make 2 unit like starter team.

Cons as bench: less minutes if starters are doing well in the games and this is big concern for JLin. Anyone can do well when giving enough opportunity cuz most players made NBA won’t be bad. JLin can no longer afford to have non starter’s minutes. And as bench, he will not get starter’s minutes for sure. That is why JLin express his desire to start as SG despite he think his bread and butter in playing PG.

    • CJSHYY

      What did he say?

    • HT

Joyce, I totally agree. I believe Lin just wants to win and enjoy the game at this moment. Many impatient Lin fans tried to push the team to let him be the starter. I believe Lin will be, if not now, will eventually be the starter. But the unwise Fans’ actions in media have become a negative PR for Lin.

We all want the moon, but when the platform has no place for you to get there then you do the next best thing and hang on to the ladder that gets you to the platform. This is the reality of the NBA and corporate America. Lin can’t change it…not for now, maybe not in his lifetime. True Lin fans “who sees through his eyes” understand the monumental challenge he faces. He may never get the casual fans accolades, but we true Lin fans love him for his desire to do good for his God and his fellow man.

Lin plays the game like an artist with his craft. He loves it as an extension of his life energy. It expresses the mana of his soul. What matters to Lin is that he does his very best in all situations available to him. A Van Gogh painting now is priceless, yet during his lifetime it was worthless. No one saw the value in his craft and genius. Lin is in a similar situation. He’s worth a lot more but if no one wants him, he has no value. Even the Knicks didn’t want him.

Yes, I like that to see things through Lin’s eyes and just watch him play the game he loves and have fun watching him doing it! I start to following him because of his personality & character, it like the fresh air in the NBA world. If we looked the half-full glass, it is not bad already, God reward him for the Linsanity, let him build up a foundation to benefit the disadvantage kids, widen his platform so he can have better influence on his fans. God knows the best, and JLin willing to follow HIM, we just have to enjoy and be glad in it.

    • Rick Johnson

They didn’t have Howard out with back pains. It’s just preseason but that guy is injury prone. Seems like you can’t rely on him for extended period of games. Wonder if he’s happy and will stay with the Rockets this season. 2016 is a player option, he can opt out and try to get a max contract when the cap jumps up next year. Wonder if the Rockets will pay max to retain him.

SBNation: Should we be worried about Dwight Howard’s back injuries?

    • linfan

But they have “The best player in the NBA”, right?

    • joyce ward

I saw the game and Howard being out was the least of their problems. People always use the excuse of preseason, these are professional athletes who are always competitive. I think the better question is did they practice to win.

    • occupatio

before even thinking about 6th man of the year awards, keep in mind that it requires more non-starter games than starts. so if clifford goes back and forth on starting lin or not — and whatever his intentions or plans now, lin starting is basically inevitable if one injury hits the team for a stretch — lin is easily disqualified from being a candidate for the award.
whats more, i doubt there is enough media support for lin to get the award.
these are the same goof-offs that put beverine on the all defensive team. what a bunch of clowns.

    • joyce ward

I look at players like Lilliard and Harden who don’t have any aspirations to win a championship, but will continue to be paid big bucks their owner. I have not seen either of these player up their game not one bit in defense.

    • occupatio

in bill simmons AMA on reddit, he was asked:
“JVG said he thought they would be a surprising team this year, do you agree?”

simmons replied: “Surprising as in ‘I am surprised by how bad they are'”

so far, only JVG has said anything positive about charlotte outside of charlotte media

    • orLinaryjoe

I look at teams like the Cavs with Tristan Thompson holding out for big bucks, while missing training camp and all of preseason with much disgust. Go Hornets and Jlin, underdogs on a mission.

    • linfan

On the subject of whether JLin starts or not, this is probably the most difficult decision Steve Clifford faces going into the regular season. Lin has been the best player on the team in preseason, efficient and consistent, whether as starter or backup. It is clear that he is crucial to the success of the team. But I am sure that Clifford is trying to evaluate if Lin starts, will that weaken the second unit so much that they will not be able to hold their own against other team’s second units. If he doesn’t start, who should play shooting guard, and if Lin is not part of the starting unit, will they be good enough against other team’s starters? Which will get the team the most wins, Lin as starter or Lin as 6th man? This is not a question about how good Lin is, but how good the rest of the team is without him. Whatever Clifford does to start the season is an attempt to answer this question, and if it does not pan out, then look for changes down the line.

    • occupatio

the solution is obvious. lin needs to play 48 minutes haha

    • Michael

Harden’s defense is already in playoffs mode.

    • occupatio

harden stays out of the way partly to avoid injury. frankly, i wish lin would do some more of that. eg, he took a big hit from a charge in the last PS game he played.

      btw, merry merry

    • 22cents

From a different perspective, can the starters sustain or be able to compete?
We have seen many times that 1st unit was outperformed and dug big holes in Lakers.
Lin just could not bury them out.
This is another parameters that Clifford has to consider.

    • joyce ward

Bingo, Lin is the game changer

    • joyce ward

Clifford is a good coach, he knows what he’s doing. Scott was and is and always will be clueless.

    • joyce ward

You too, merry merry. Lin has some smart coaches that are going to advise him wisely on different alternatives on how best to protect his body.

    • sws94

And for this reason I am beginning to think that he is better suited for the game changer coming off of the bench vs. starting. As a starter he tends to be fairly complementary so I don’t think his impact is as strongly felt. He’s not a backup as he is a finisher of games as well as a 27 plus mpg player. I don’t think he needs to start with Kemba and Batum and Jefferson because a lot of the offense flows through them. However, as a finisher he is on the court with them and will be in the flow of the offense having established it throughout the game.

    • GoodDayLA

U win by having the most talent on the floor. Saving your talent to offset lack of talent is stupid.

Lin can easily start and still lead the 2nd unit. Take Lin out early or take him out later. Its really easy and simple.

Lin starting even at SG will turn Lin into the star of the team by end of season. It is simply inevitable.

Do the Hornets want a one year rental to turn their franchise upside down? i would but easy for me to say with nothing to lose.

    • GoodDayLA

This shows u how utterly clueless Simmons is. Total buffoon

    • Rick Johnson

Another factor is if JLin is a starter and they keep playing “feed Jefferson in the post” ball JLin’s impact is minimized. I want to see JLin as a starter as much as anyone else but this wouldn’t be a good way to utilize him and show his talent. I think using him for all the 2nd unit PG minutes so about 5 minutes per quarter adds up to 20 minutes, then stretches with the 1st unit as SG when they aren’t playing “feed Jefferson in the post” ball to add another 10 minutes especially to close out games to get about 30 minutes.

    • 22cents

      Agreed.

What I am saying is that the 1st unit may not be able compete without Lin.

If they want to win, Lin has to take the leader role. This may be the most difficult decision that Clifford has to make. But….. to give the leading role to a 2M/year guy?………It is tough.

    • Rick Johnson

Las Vegas doesn’t have much faith in the Hornets. Be interesting to see if these odds change as the season goes on. Not saying the Hornets are a championship team, just looking at their odds relative to other teams. 2nd to last at 350/1 is pretty low. Even lower than Lakers 175/1 is surprising.

      http://www.vegasinsider.com/nba/odds/futures/

    • linfan

You may be correct, but I am not sure that is always the case. The value of a top notch 6th man is well documented in the NBA. McHale was 6th man for a while, as was Harden. Eventually, really good 6th men usually become starters, but coaches love having a “game changer” on the bench (Vinnie Johnson? aka “the Microwave” – anybody know who gave him that nickname?). When season starts, we will see Clifford’s answer to this conundrum.

    • GoodDayLA

If Lin starts he will become the face of the franchise out of necessity. Haters will laugh at the hornets having Lin as the star and lin will shatter their hate with elite basketball play.

I think MJ and them understand Lin starting = crazy publicity and some good and bad consequences for the team.

Luckily MJ owns that team. He can do some crazy stuff and nobody can hate on him that much since he is MJ.

Would be amAzing is MJ an all time great has the guts to start Lin.

These odds makers take into account of population and mass appeal. What they are saying is that there are more suckers in LA that may wager than in Charlette so they hedge their bets based upon that return.

If LA was a stock, it definitely is a dump. Charlette would be a buy.

    • TTNN

actually the logic is not that hard to follow, Hornets were the bottom in offense last season but decent in defense, and their best defensive player is out of the season now thus it looks like Hornets had nothing left now.

Well, that’s why people will get so much surprised getting into the season, one thing is happening is so rare that a team could totally change their play style with the same coach, I did not anticipate that either, that’s why most Lin fans had questioned Lin’s decision.

    • Rick Johnson

Yes I wish it did work like stocks options where you could buy at the beginning of the season and sell it later as the odds change.

    • TTNN

Amin Elhassan is another one. He was pretty positive on Hornets too, but not to the JVG over 500 level yet, but he did said Hornets will be greatly above the prediction.

    • GoodDayLA

starting Lin if Lin keeps playing like he has, he becomes face of franchise.

No NBA team wants Lin to be their franchise player, even if he shows he has the talent and mental makeup to be that guy.

Joyce Warde said this already. Asian faced kid cannot be a face of the franchise until one owner has the guts. As of now ,they will refuse to empower Lin by starting him even if his play deserve it. Keeping him benched keeps him at bay in a lot of different ways.

MJ may be the only one with the guts and the understanding of the power of China $$$ and maybe he will go ALL LIN.

      JUST MAYBE>

    • grover chang

The season is long. 82 games around 2500 minutes. Like to see lin use the time to maximum efficiency with the bench. People talk like the starters are scrubs. They are not and play defense. Will be competitive and be able to keep game close. But lin needs to end games, excluding blow out games.

    • TTNN

      wisdom tooth??? LOL…..

uh, Daniels hamstring is still troublesome, hopefully he give it enough time to get it fully recovered, that’s something you don’t want to mess around, could last a while……

    • Rick Johnson

Hope it happens too but from the Hornets perspective JLin may only stay for a year and Walker is on a big 4 yr contract. They would have to see a bigger sample size and a commitment on an extension to make him their starting PG and demote Walker.

Personally I would wish JLin would be the face of the franchise on a bigger market team with more global appeal. Maybe if Dolan loses the team after getting caught saying some racist remark or Buss gets fired along with Byron Scott and Kobe retires.

    • Arsenium12 .

“I want to get back to what makes me what I am as a player, which is being aggressive, being on the attack and always charging toward the rim.”

“It’s been a lot of fun so far,” said Lin, who averaged 15.3 points, 3.8 assists and 4.3 rebounds in six preseason games as the Hornets went a franchise-best 7-1. “I’m playing and just trying to be aggressive within the system. But it’s helpful when the system caters to my style of play. It’s been good for me so far, but it’s one of those things where you can’t get complacent
      or satisfied.”

Lin’s pairing with veterans Kemba Walker and Nicolas Batum on the perimeter in pick-and-roll offensive sets has worked beyond anyone’s expectations. “Those three guys are really good in that game,” Clifford said. “We certainly anticipate taking advantage of all three as much as we can once the season starts.”

Lin understands his coach’s high hopes about that offensive set. “Well, all three of us can pass and all three of us can shoot.” … “And when you put Marvin (Williams) at the (power forward), it creates even more passing lanes and more space on the floor.”

“It’s been a long preseason,” Lin said. “You combine the coming in early to get for China and going over there and it feels like
forever. So I’m ready. I think we all are.”

    • Rick Johnson

Bill Simmons is surprised by how bad they are? Based on what? He even watching games or just wanted to make an entertaining flippant remark?

    • Kwok Wai Lai

At last, Lin has a coach who is really going to take care of him and his game. The helping defense tears down the myth that Lin is not a good defender. Nobody can defend PnR all by himself. That’s exactly McHale and Byron Scott asked Jeremy to do. Now with some help Lin has fought through screen and with some help from his teammates able to recover and changed shots for good. Lin is a decent defender and a team player.

One of the greatest contribution athletes makes is their ability to transform beliefs. Human activities create livelihood by creating industry from what we know. Athletics can expand our imagination into breaking beyond what we know as truth. Every kid growing up playing sports wants to beat their heroes and with that impetus, one will eventually break what is accepted known boundaries of human capacity. Athletes in fact serves society by constantly reminding us that to break records and to improve is the necessary constant of our existenance.

I still believe that had Morey not acquired Harden to deliberately push out and diminish Lin, rockets would have had the same year end result but with better cap room to invest in the future. There’s still a utube video of Rox playing against Harden and OKC around in the preseason, a game that they won. Rockets looked great with Lin in charge.

We are constantly hearing people repeat known quantified results based upon past biases. Athletes and great thinkers are constantly breaking beyond that and showing the world new possibilities. Jeremy Lin is such an athlete. He is a transformative player that breaks the mold. If he’s given a chance he will break all predictions this year for Charlette.

Clifford has done a good job managing Lin and giving him a chance to prove his worth. Many are very happy with Clifford already. IMO, Clifford is hesitant to believe his own good fortune to land a great player like Lin. He simply cannot believe it. So my judgement and evaluation of him will be based upon how he will use his own imagination and own evaluating skills to plot a new future for this franchise, one that isn’t based upon set boundaries and known quantity. Can Clifford think outside of the box and place his faith in Lin? That remains to be seen.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Yeah. Lin still has to improve on his ball handling. Just like in the first Q against the Pistons. His old habit of having turn over bundles come back again to haunt him. The good thing is he made adjustment in the remaining 3Qs and made no more TOs. Coach Clifford must have taught him how to get over the humps.

Reggie Jackson was haunted by Jeremy’s defense and only shot 3 out 15 but he delievered 11 assists. Lin’s receiver frequently get fouled and was able to get the and 1 for extra points.

    • Whitman Lam

It’s the lack of name recognition. Charlotte doesn’t have any big name superstar players. That’s who fans pay attention to.

    • CJSHYY

What’s these? Lin’s interview after practice today?

    • CJSHYY

I think Lin will start. — “Those three guys are really good in that game,” Clifford said.“We certainly anticipate taking advantage of all three as much as we can once
      the season starts.”

The East Conference is getting stronger this year. The Pistons, the Hornets, the Heat, the Magic and even the Knicks are not push over and walking blankets.

    • Tommy

How do you know they have no aspirations to win?
Harden played his heart out last year and led the half injured team to conference finals pretty much all by himself
Lillard has been so clutch for the Blazers

    • Tommy

      He probably won’t
If he starts the first 7mins of 1st and 3rd q he wont get many touches

    • orLinaryjoe

Can you believe they could have had Lin in lieu of Delly? Will enjoy the matchup.

    • Whitman Lam

Doesn’t matter because Kyrie will play most of the minutes at point guard. The Chicago Bulls on the other hand can definitely use Jeremy Lin instead of Aaron Brooks to get to the NBA Finals.

    • blueCypher

So I guess some of us should bet on the Hornets , since the payoff will be huge haha

    • orLinaryjoe

Point is Lin is so underrated and not a member of the Lebron fraternity, will enjoy watching the Hornets smack them one. Same goes to Harden, Kobe, Melo…

    • Kwok Wai Lai

It’s absolutely shameless for Morey to hard sell Haren as the MVP with Houston boosted up temporarily by players like Josh Smith and Pablo Prigioni. Morey this time around at least got wise enough to keep Corey Brewer who had scored 50 points over Haren in a game and Jason Terry for the team. I don’t thing Houston would get too far this season. Next season would be even worse with his young players ready for big contracts.

    • orLinaryjoe

      100% over and over again!

We all have seen Haren choking in the playoff. Save the leading stuff for yourself.

you are just hating on Harden because he outshined Lin in Houston smh

    • Tommy

Morey doesnt have to hard sell Harden as the MVP
a good amount of people believe Harden was the MVP last season
getting rid of Josh Smith was a blessing because hes inefficent pablo prigioni didnt do anythinf

    • David Kim

I think Jeremy lin will play well this season whether he starts or comes off the bench.

But i really want Lin introduced as starter on opening night.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Haren has the ball in his hand all the time. He’s the number 1 option. We often saw him used up most of the shot clock and passed the shot to Lin in the last secs.

    • Steppen03

      Hellooo, fellow JL7 fans =)
Good morning, good afternoon, good night, where ever you are.
Once again and for the Final time, I changed my mind: I want Lin to be the starting SG. Tho he will increase the firepower for 2nd unit he is best served competing against very good opposing PG/SG right off the bat. JL7 is happy now. He is comfortable now. And he will surely come out firing on all cylinders from the start (as in Clippers games, as during Linsanity run). And he will increase the firepower for 1st unit with his scoring and passing. Oh, don’t forget about his good defense. I think Roberts can lead the 2nd unit just fine. Ya, coach Cliff – make this a reality.

    • CJSHYY

This is so fun. MSG is always full house. Can’t believe this lineup beat Lakers? (The good one Lakers)

    • Whitman Lam

Harden’s flopping game didn’t work that night, and with Kawhi, Green, and Aldridge on the floor, the Rockets couldn’t hide him on defense by putting him on a non-scoring player.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Steve Curry helped the team won a championship.
      What did the Rockets win?

    • zxcvb

Lin can be starting SG AND lead the 2nd unit. It’s called staggering minutes. There isn’t a single team in NBA history that subs out all five starters at the same time and puts in five new bench guys. There is no conflict here.

If Lin doesn’t start on this team, then it’s entirely political. It’s not like the Hornets have Klay Thompson or even Wes Matthews and people are asking them to move to SF so Lin can start at SG. Charlotte needs all the help it can get and starting Lin maximizes his minutes and impact.

Hornets are much more predictable if Lin comes off the bench. Starters will be about 1) Big Al post-ups and 2) Kemba jumpers. 2nd unit will be about 1) Lin pick and roll 2) Lin pick and pop. Good coaches and defenses will be ready. But if Lin starts, then the entire game changes — who’s handling the ball? Kemba? Lin? Who’s shooting 3s? Batum? Lin? Who’s the #1 option tonight? #2? #3? It’s so hard to plan for.

as i said, lin 48 minutes hah. but yes, staggered.

    • Steppen03

      Half and Half.
Coach Cliff want to model after GS Warr. – fast and potent – 1st and 2nd. Hornets’ 1st is not potent enough without Lin. And he can shut people down. I want to see a strong start versus a slow start. Al-offense won’t happen if Lin is playing with him because Lin is all about ball movement. They have a formula: model after preseason game number 4. That’s our Best game.

    • grover chang

Good times. Now you made me go watch the highlights to this game.

    • GoodDayLA

yes, a post that makes some sense. A lot of sense. And speaks accurately.

I am fully prepared for Lin to not start. I know it will more than likely be 100% political.

If they actually expect Lin to opt out after 1 season, even MORE reason to start him. Because it doesn’t matter. They can scapegoat him and say Lin was money hungry going somewhere else.

So if they don’t start him, it’s because they are afraid.

Miracles don’t come off the bench. Manu Ginobil is the best 6th man in recent history and he’s not really even thought of that highly when it comes down to it.

So I say screw it and start him.

Lin won’t be creating miracles off the bench playing 7 minutes a half with Hawes and Zeller.

The notion of Lin doing more damage in 14 minutes with the 2nd string over playing with the starting crew is totally stupid.

    • GoodDayLA

Id rather Lin start against Wade than go against Green at SG. Seriously. I’m not kidding.

With no Lamb, Lin will come in as backup SG with Brian Roberts.

In that scenario, you want Lin to start vs. Wade and torch him.

    • JLin Fan from Australia
    • Steppen03

No, It’s Not. Like when a team got their Top #1 or #2 pick that player becomes the starter or leader under minimum $$ contract. It’s All about the organization and coaches. There’s a First for everything. Goes to other way: if a player with big contract is under-performing or playing really poor – should the coach just keep on playing him and let him bury the franchise ?

    • GoodDayLA

      Jeremy Lin.

Will he be the Kato of this (green) Hornet team off the bench?

Or will they make him into Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon?

      We’ll see on Wednesday.

    • GoodDayLA

sounds like he’s coming off the bench

    • Steppen03

I think MJ and Coach Cliff are all about winning. And winning BIG if possible. Only the LA have org that continues to live and dwell in the past.

    • GoodDayLA

Black color could have mean bench

    • Steppen03

Can’t agreed more, GoodLA. Lin Needs to Start to help run the offense and play good D. Play ahead or play from behind, coach ? your call.

    • Rick Johnson

Ya, usually quotes verses when something disappointing happens. I’m not religious but if you read the whole section in context it talks about god fulfilling his promise to deliver the Jews who were forced into exile to Babylon. So it’s either he’s still in exile and believing in God or he feels that god is now fulfilling his promise to free him form Babylon (Rockets & Lakers are Babylon?) Maybe both.

      https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Jeremiah%2029&version=NIV

10 This is what the Lord says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place. 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity.[b] I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”

    • Yascar

Interesting verse. It is normally interpreted as God’s promise to stay with you through adversity, if you seek Him with all your heart. I think our boy is trying to keep perspective.

    • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Given the fact that Wade is 6’4, starting Lin should not be an issue…I would understand being afraid of starting him when he may have to guard big wing guys like Butler or Hrden in the West…But Wade is a bit smaller + slower and older.

Wade didn’t have a good pre-season and has been a bit injury prone….Dragic is also having some issue as for fitness…Let’s hope these guys won’t be 100% ready by Wednesday.

    • Rick Johnson

If Zeller is starting then Lin is on the second unit. Zeller allows Batum to slide over to the SG position so no Lin at SG. If Lin was SG then Batum goes to the SF, Williiams moves over to PF, Zeller goes to the bench. I’m fine with that, I’d rather JLin play as PG of the 2nd unit and finish the game with the starters than stand around watching while Walker feeds Jefferson in the post.

    • Steppen03

Maximize your starters or maximize your bench ?? I rather be up 10 points then down 10 points. We can sub Al with Cody or Hawes, Frank for Marvins, Roberts for Kemba/Lin – Not All at once – If we do that – Both there’s No 1st or 2nd unit – Just One Big Unit.

    • GoodDayLA

If Lin starts, I will buy single team NBA league pass. If not, screw the NBA.

    • GoodDayLA

I don’t expect Charlotte to do too much (they are a 1st or 2nd round loser right now and not really a true contender) unless Lin starts at PG with a bigger 2 man at his side and they dump the Al Jefferson post ups. So I just want Lin to start to get most personal glory and try to really take it to other teams.

I want to see Lin put egg on everyone’s face a second time.

Starting gives him the best and only chance to do this. The bench role will be very disappointing to even those Lin fans who thinks its ok today.

    • Alain Gervais

your setting yourself up to be let down.

    • GoodDayLA

there is no chance in h*** Charlotte makes the NBA finals but I would bet some good money they can make the ECF. As currently constructed and how they play and who they play, they cannot beat Cavs.

    • steven ko

my main concern is that if Lin doesn’t start, whoever starts at the SG position whether it’s PJ or Daniels or Lamb will get abused at the defensive end. Lin is the best 3 and D guy they have now that MKG is out for the season. on the offensive side, starting Lin at SG will create enough space for Kemba and Batum to operate. let’s see what coach decides…

    • Rick Johnson

Can you imagine if they did? $20 bet would get you $7000.

    • grover chang

I guess we will see how it plays out. But I want Lin to play and win, to me that means the bench. Lin plays better with the bench players.

Lin could be the top scorer of the team and I don’t see anyone paying attention to him. Hornets have a 7-1 preseason record and barely a peep in the media. If any reference to the Hornets come up, I hear Batum or Kaminsky names for their new additions. Lin is barely mentioned. Your vision of Lin lightening it up as a starter will not bring him more accolades. Somehow whatever Lin does it is not recognized by mainstream sportswriters.

Lin might as well get to win and play his style.

    • CJSHYY

      Haha! Me too.

    • ZcodeSportSystem.com

The “7 minutes a half” is my concern if Lin were to be brough off the bench…If the shooting guard that is starting is having a decent match, that would mean less minute for Lin, also.

Unless Lin is guaranteed close to 30 minutes a game, than not starting would be an issue.

    • Steppen03

Tommy: No hating. When Lin was mentioned as overrated and inconsistent- well guess who else: James Harden. More than half of his points came from the charity line, without that he’s like 12-15 ppg. So, he IS not “true” elite to me, not MVP worthy. Steph Curry IS the true MVP. Harden is just a “very good” player but not one of the greats (Like D-Wade). Lin is a better all around player Than Harden if given the Same treatments in Hou (like a role reversal). The Rockets will not be better than last season – far from it.

    • Wayne Li

Clearly JLin want to start, quote from JLin: “Well, all three of us can pass and all three of us can shoot,” said Lin, …. “And when you put Marvin (Williams) at the (power forward), it creates even more passing lanes and more space on the floor.” JLin obviously envisioned that Marvin play PF instead SF, that leaves Nic at SF.

      http://www.gastongazette.com/article/20151024/NEWS/151029371/14886/SPORTS

    • John Lee

Harden played his heart out…shooting. On the defensive end he’s either ball watching or trying to find out where his man went.

    • joyce ward

Or this bible verse could have nothing to do with at all. It could be scripture he read this morning and he decided to tweet it out. Some of you on here are nothing but negative nellies. Please spare me the c**p about being a realist. Hint: realist is your reality. I just can’t….smh

    • John Lee

Ball watching and losing your man is not just “not excellent defense”, it’s horrific defense.

Why do you think they kept Beverley around for so long? He’s not the Beverine as many believe, but even then he’s still better at D than Harden.

    • GoodDayLA

how so? I don’t expect Lin to start. So jokes on you!

    • Phillycheese

Time to take a step back from the cliff.

    • GoodDayLA

back to my other statement: There are NOT ENOUGH MINUTES OFF THE BENCH WITH THE ROLE PLAYER BENCH SQUAD for Lin to make a difference.

      Might as well start.

Even if Lin plays 30 MPG, Hawes and the other guys will play 15-20 MAX and possible more like 12-18 an given night.

What bench squad can do such damage in 12 minutes a game? None.

This “bench squad” is a fallacy. NBA starters play 70-80% of the minutes.

    • GoodDayLA

Cant wait for Lin vs. Minnesota. Andrew Wiggins now starts at the 2 last night. Lin would get killed on post up and lob dunks.

    • JLin Fan from Australia
    • Yascar

It’s a Hornets gala. Players are probably required to do so. We’ll see.

    • Phillycheese

Lin should start. He’s their best guard right now and all the Hornets know it. I want him to get his minutes as sure thing. No way he can get 32 min as a backup. I want to watch Lin play at least 32 min.

    • Yascar

And yet Jeremy has always tweeted a verse at exactly the right time to suit his situation. I doubt whether it means nothing, but you’re right it may not be pertaining to what is being speculated on. No one really knows.

    • joyce ward

We all know lin wants to start and Clifford not saying whose starting tells me that he is weighing but the cons and pros starting lin. If he starts lin then it would take some of the pressure off kemba. If he does start lin, the bench is going to implode. That is what Clifford is figuring out. Clifford knows that 1st unit is a little shaky, but also knows that lin playing with 2nd unit is solid. I’m going to give Clifford the benefit of the doubt for now,

    • Rick Johnson

I think so. If you look at the Gallery from last year’s gala there are players there.

      ….(dam bro too far)

    • Tommy

Harden isnt a good defender by any measure
but if you watch the whole game, you know hes not as bad as the YT video shows he at least tries
given that he was pretty bad and didnt show any effort the first 2 years in Hou

    • K. P. Chan

I just saw today one of those chuckle-inducing, fortune cookie, “Confucius Says” quotes: “Let the past make you better, not bitter”. It’s a very simplistic saying, but one that’s very apt for Lin’s situation and where he is now. My guess is that he clearly gets this, and I believe this is his state of mind.

I as a Lin fan would also like to move forward. That’s why I cringed when I saw (I think you know which ones) the recent articles by an overly zealous, so-called fan who tried to open up old wounds and to stir up hatred. It was not helpful. We need to lean forward, and not live in the past.

    • John Lee

I’ve watched over 140 of the 164 Rox games during Lin’s tenure, I KNOW how bad Harden’s D is, and it’s not from watching YT videos…though admittedly those compilations are pretty hilarious.

    • Alain Gervais

For some reason i think the longer it takes the more likely it is Lin starts.

JLin did say in his Q&A that he shared Bible verse because the verse has inspired him so much that he just wanted to share it with friends and fans; not necessarily mean he has gone thru another trials and tribulations. God often speaks when one is seeking for Him. Since JLin spends significant time with God, this is the often result. Just that he doesn’t share it everytime.

    • Tommy

Like I said, he was horrible and had bad attitude in the first 2 years
he got a lot better last season but he still wasnt a good defender but he tried and wasnt all that bad

    • GoodDayLA

Do you really believe Clifford has free reign to decide the starting input without consent of the front office? I do not.

    • Tommy

FO? GM is Rich Cho, doubt he doesnt want Lin to succeed

    • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Whatever decision Cliff makes on Lin role, my guess is he would like to keep Miami guessing…If he announces Lin will start alongside Walker, than that Give the heat 3 days to prepare for it.

One issue with Lin starting is that he would play less minutes as the PG since Roberts would have to be brought in the rotation since the 2 PG are starting…..

At the moment, I’m slightly leaning for Lin to start because starters usually plays more minutes unless they are playing real bad.

Coming off the bench, Lin minutes will probably be capped at around 25…As a starter, he’ll probably get consistent 30+ minutes a night

    • John Lee

Easy, actually. Give Jeremy 100% ball handling with the bench squad, and bring in Lin early to stagger minutes with starters at the very first sign of starters being mutilated.

This will guarantee PT minutes of around 28 to 32 minutes average for Jeremy, increase the chance of success, and not mess with team politics.

Now if we could only get rid of Al and acquire a younger, faster passing center, then we can talk about moving Lin into starting lineup.

    • steven ko

is MJ pro-Lin on the outside but otherwise on the inside?

    • Rick Johnson

      Exactly what I think

    • Tommy

      could be

    • Alain Gervais

      don’t start this stuff again.

    • Yascar

And yet once again, we don’t really know. I’m just saying that he has often tweeted a verse at opportune times. I didn’t say he’s going through trials and tribulations. But the verse, which I have also studied extensively, is about seeking God through adversity and trial; peripherally it is God promising that He is always there.

You and I and everyone else here don’t know what J is really doing. Only J does. Let’s just admit we’re all speculating equally with each other.

    • joyce ward

I could care less what you think. Stay out of my postings with your negative drama…..Movin on

    • John Lee

Man, this is eating you up inside! I feel you but take a step back and let events unfold. There will be twists and turns, but it will be fun…guaranteed.

    • Rick Johnson

I think Clifford and Cho want to win this year because it’s make or break for them. MJ has to think mire long term and keep the team viable for many years. If they make JLin the starting PG and move Walker to the bench. Then replace Jefferson with a faster PnR center like Tyson what do they do next year if JLin decides to exercise his player option and leave? All this only based on 6 preseason games? Got to think of it from a business point of view. Maybe later if JLin continues to show production and commits to a multi-year deal they would consider doing that.

    • Acbc

One of the reasons Clifford is so hesitant is that he is afraid of the ramifications of his own future. Putting Lin into the starting line up pretty much puts him as a maverick of the old boys club in the NBA. Look what happened to MDA since Linsanity. Does he have the balls to bet his whole future on Lin when there is such a negative bias against him?

IMO, he’s going to let Lin come off bench until Linsanity strikes off bench for Hornets. He’ll defacto Lin as bench but play him 28-30 and most of 4th. Once Linsanity hits and Hornets are the darling Cinderella of the NBA, Lin will then be safe to become official starter.

    • joyce ward

Sounds like what Clifford is going to probably do.Please no Lamb.

    • John Lee

he’s minutes won’t be capped at 25 as a bench player… he had almost 30 min at Houston as a 6th man and that wasn’t even a good situation for him… He only played 25 min as a laker cause they were tanking.. charlotte knows they have to play lin minutes whether starting or on 6th man for them to win.

      6. Three most dysfunctional NBA organizations right now are the Kings, Hornets and Clippers and I am not sure of the order… (Ok I’m done)
      1:48 PM – 25 Aug 2015

This must be true. I posted a long time ago only a team in disarray would rely on Jeremy Lin to save them. And Lin is being leaned on so heavily I definitely think Bill got this right. Lin really is going to save MJ’s butt. Without Lin, this team would be bad and forgettable.

    • CJSHYY

Clippers? What’s wrong w this team?

I agree w/o Lin even they got Batum this season will be loss again.

    • Alain Gervais

dysfunctional in what way. i hear a lot of people say that mostly because they go at MJ and his ownership choices.

    • Rick Johnson

Maybe because of the Sterling thing. That’s past though. Maybe because Doc Rivers is coach and GM and doesn’t have enough time to scout out good talent to assemble a good bench?

That sounds most likely, though I still haven’t ruled out Clifford having the guts to start him right away. Big Al just isn’t what he used to be and the Hornets starters can’t shoot.

Stumbling out of the gate would really kill all the good vibes and chemistry they’ve built up. It would be another “Here we go again…” season.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

A good team will embrace what they have specially a player like Al. Lin will have chemistry with Big Al who has an excellent attitude. They are not disabling themselves of getting rid of any potential helpers. Yes Big Al is still an option to space the court. You have Big Al and you can shoot more 3s.

Bill Simmons still mad because ESPN fired him. He is just sour grapes.

    • John Lee

We should all be reminded that Lin is not a basketball machine, he’s a human being first and foremost. Yes, he IS a pioneer fighting an unjust institution, not unlike Jackie Robinson, but even our warrior needs time to unwind and heal. If anything, Jeremy needs a safe harbor, at least in relative terms, to recuperate from the last three tumultuous years.

Lin’s inner joy is just as important, if not more so, than starting NOW. The damage from Rox and Lakers is real, and it’s serious, so it will take TIME to repair. Rushing things will really not help, as perception takes time to unwind. Even for those of us who still don’t fully trust Clifford (or his higher ups), we should at least trust Jeremy’s own judgment.

If Jeremy is happy, there must be a good reason. So let’s sit back and enjoy the show as things unfold.

    • John Lee

HAHAHAHA, I can very clearly see why even lowly ESPN doesn’t want him.

    • joyce ward

      Good post.

    • Joyce, I also believe JLin is at peace with his place in Hornets.

It’s hard to deny how much he smiles and enjoys playing with his unselfish teammates plus having the freedom to play his brand of basketball under Coach Clifford

I’m sure JLin wants to start like any other NBA players would but I don’t think it will make him playing less joy if he doesn’t start. A little disappointment won’t deter him to sulk because we know his good character. He’s clearly happy after 3 long years playing for a coach and system that don’t value him.

I like your post earlier. We are here to support JLin. If he’s happy, we can choose to be happy to support him.

Even if JLin is not a starter by Game 1, I believe eventually JLin would start. If the Hornets expect to keep him past this year, they’d have to start him sooner or later since other teams would offer him a much better position next season.

I would encourage fellow JLin fans to simply enjoy a happy and smiling JLin as a Hornet 🙂
Good things will certainly follow later.

    • Very well said. We can rush things and do more damage by putting JLin in a difficult position w/ CHA media.

JLin’s strong plays will eventually be the final proof of MJ’s prediction and even Isiah Thomas that JLin is best summer acquisition/pick-up. These basketball great recognize talent and greatness more than any of us here could ever appreciate. I’ll take their words =)

As Lin fans, we just need to stay patient & support JLin to succeed.

    • GoJLin!

YES! God knows the best, and JLin willing to trust and follow HIM, we just need to relax, enjoy and be glad in it.

I don’t think MDA was ostracized for starting Lin. Lin helped MDA get his laker contract. Before Lin MDA system looked mediocre or worse, without Steve Nash. MDA should thank Lin for the millions he made off of the Lakers because of linsanity.

    • grover chang

Whatever Cliff decides to do Spoelstra already is game planning for Lin. Since the time of Linsanity, Miami seems especially focused on Lin whenever he is on the court. They are always trying to trap him and intimidate him physically. Lin teammates need to counter with quick cuts in Lin’s sight lines for outlet passes to rescue him when he is in trouble. Lin could use miami’s overaggressive defense by flopping and drawing fouls.

    • John Lee

Through their view towards and treatment of Jeremy Lin, we can differentiate the TRUE basketball greats from the undeserved, both as basketball players and as human beings with integrity.

I used to be a huge fan of Clyde Drexler and Dominique Wilkins, but their biased and dishonest commentaries were appalling. Such commentaries where indicative of either 1) they really don’t understand the sport, which I doubt, or 2) they understand the sport but won’t give credit where it’s due because of reasons outside basketball. I will refrain from using the “r” word here, but these guys are sellouts, if not to the sport then at least to the commentator jobs that they’re holding by not accurately assessing what they see. And you guys already know way much about McHale and BS so no need to go there.

On the other hand, you have MJ and Isiah Thomas (and to a lesser extent Magic Johnson) endorsing Lin without reservation. Sure, MJ’s Jeremy’s boss and he wants to crack the Chinese market, so there’s motivation to promote Jeremy. But he himself already has such an elevated status in basketball that he doesn’t really NEED to do it, as his brand is ALREADY established worldwide. IT on the other hand has NOTHING to gain in talking up Jeremy, yet he does it against the wide public’s opinion of Jeremy, which speaks volumes.

    • grover chang

agree relax. Urgency is the tool of the Devil.

    • Yellow

Many of us appreciate Nathan but he needs to slow down and chill. JLin team is doing the right thing at the right time.

    • John Lee

I think MDA was already on bad terms with Melo before Linsanity, but giving Melo’s spotlight away to end-of-bench Jeremy during Melo’s absence only drove that stake deeper.

    • Yascar

Nat was actually the first one who asked what it meant. He’s stringing his email with the verse when it may not be related.

I’m just gonna say this because every now and again we get into this cycle, particularly at times when Jeremy is facing a major turning point in his life. Us fans then get into “I’m right” and “you’re wrong.” The thing is, no one really knows. We’re just stating opinions. Let’s just carry on with the congenial, open atmosphere this site is kmown for and watch the story unfold.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Lin is ready to move to the next level and he responds so well with Clifford on the court that’s incredible. How many players who made 3 TOs, that is a bundle, in the first quarter and made no more TOs without having the coach yanked him away from the court. Lin is improving every day playing with this team and this team is improving every day with Lin inspiring them. Everyone is buying in or they would have been gone.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

IT has seen something that others don’t in promoting JLin. That include James Dolan who has had an issue with Jeremy Lin. IT has gone beyond that. Our boy, Jeremy Lin, is definitely going to be someone special in the coming season.

    • John Lee

Yeah, Nathan is second to none in his loyalty to Jeremy, but like Evangelion Unit 1 he sometimes goes into berserk mode.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Lin will finish the games. Wouldn’t that be more important than starting? You’re incredible! The team chemistry is there and Lin is at the core of it.

    • John Lee

IIRC Isiah is good friends with Dolan. The fact that IT did not allow his friend’s apprehension to bleed over and affect his own assessment of Jeremy’s skills makes me respect him even more.

Being creative or being dysfunctional, coach Clifford has transformed the team into scoring machine. The way I see it, this team is going to score over 100 points every game in the regular season. See if Miami is going to stop this. I doubt it because Wade couldn’t make a dent to Lin’s game without fouling. The first game with the Hornets, he’s going to foul out.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

The Hornets is an unconventional team. Walker is not like a tradtional PG. Jeremy is definitely not a conventional SG. Batum is the SF the runs the point at times. Zeller runs at both ends of the court. Even Big Al starts changing his game shooting jump shots instead of relying heavily on posting ups in the preseason. The evolutions starts and won’t go back. There is no return because the team is having great fun with what they are.

    • ZcodeSportSystem.com

I agree with you that Miami will heavily game plan for Jeremy.

I believe there’s a scouting report on Lin which states that if you double him/pressure than he will turn the ball over…so this is why you see him get double teamed a lot….not because they have respect for him as a star that demand double team..but it’s because they feel he will turn the ball over under heavy pressure, so they need to make him uncomfortable.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

If Lin doesn’t start as 2, Batum has to. Then we will see Walker, Batum, Marvin Williams, Zeller, Big Al.
Then when Lin checks in, we will see Lin, Roberts, Batum, Frank, Hawes.
Anyway, Clifford will have his job cut out for him to choose his starters and bench since he has done it so successfully in the preseason, Lin will play lots of minutes though switching between 1 and 2 to keep the opposition off guard. I would think Clifford will keep 2 out of 3 (Walker. Batum, Lin) on the court at all time.

Drexler and Wilkins were unbelievable athletes that made Lebron James look unathletic.

But their games and wins never caught up to their bodies.

Both those players were just great raw athletes, not much more.

Had Lin played in the easier 80s, Lin would’ve had no trouble playing against either superstar.

    • Uh-Oh

Epic observation! Your eagle eyes, lol.

    • Acbc

Self preservation is a powerful impetus. If winning is the only option left for Clifford, Lin will be pushed into starter role right away. The long term ramifications be damn. Clifford has to feel the urgency to control his own immediate destiny first and that is a need to win.

Many very good posts already but I really yours. Damn right about!! Adding Lin to starting SG is the Only way to go. Without him on 1st unit from the start: Batum will be the Only change – And That’s Ain’t Enough Firepower. Period! Forget about the 2nd unit… – Take Care of the First unit FIRST, then the 2nd will follow.

    • deesee5

Yeah those are the Air Jordan 1.

    • GoodDayLA

Forrest should introduce her to Jlin.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

ESPN has ranked Kobe Bryant 93rd player in NBA.
Come on. There are more than two to three hundred players I would rather have on my team than Kobe. With Kobe, you tend to lose more games than those 200-300 players.on your team. Right now, at this moment nobody except the Lakers would keep him on the court for the team. Talking about only 92 players better than Kobe now; this is absolutely an understatement.

    • Steppen03

Took it from one of my fav. films, yeah ?
      Samson is great.

    • Rick Johnson

Miami thinks they stopped Linsanity (more like Melo did). Seems like a good place to reignite it.

Getting to the line is also an elite trade…not many could do that, many coaches would kill for to get such a player…..its an ugly game, but it is what it is.

i doubt this guy even watched one hornets preseason game.

Perfect setup for shocking the unsuspecting world of doubters.

    • Rick Johnson

Underdog team unselfish team, underdog player that all the media “experts” have written off. Coach and GM in a make or break season. Sounds like Linsanity 2.0 to me.

    • John Lee

I was.wondering if someone would get my hint. 🙂

    • Maknusia

      Kemba is 6’1″

    • Phillycheese

Look, my point is given a choice, I think Lin starting is best fir him and his fans. But no matter I am happy for him in this new situation. Not being militant in my call for him starting is all. Just want to make that clear. It’s all good either way.

    • Maknusia

So looks like most of the reports had ranked Hornets at 9th spot…..pretty sure, if their chemistry clicked well and Coach C plays smart rotations…CH gonna surprise many NBA forecasters

    • John Lee

If Lin gets to play his brand of basketball for 28 min avg or more, Hornets will do 6th or better, guaranteed.

    • Maknusia

      Agreed

      Is a good read.

The Charlotte Hornets struck out last season when they signed Lance Stephenson. 2015 has been much better as the signing of Jeremy Lin looks to be a terrific move. From Scott Fowler of The Charlotte Observer:

“I know it is only preseason, but the Hornets’ 6-0 record is attributable in part to the graceful way Lin has adapted to his new team. … Lin and Kemba Walker are natural point guards, but Lin can slide over to the shooting guard spot with little problem. You can tell Hornets coach Steve Clifford likes this lineup. Charlotte gets into its offense earlier with it and gets better shots out of it. Defensively it will sometimes be a struggle, but it hasn’t been yet. … Charlotte opens for real on Oct. 28th, at Miami. And the Walker-Lin pairing is just one of the reasons this season has serious potential.”
Nothing is set, but there is a chance Clifford will start a backcourt of Walker and Lin at times during the regular season.

I really hope they can use Hansbrough more bc he did get good Reb.

Start the season with the buzz brothers and watch the Hornets take off!
      Go Lin.

    • CJSHYY
    • Chris B.

Ok. I am going to play a little as a devil advocate. First, I think coach Clifford is the best coach Jeremy have had since MDA. However, I am not sold on him yet as a coach who knows how to properly use Jeremy. I think all this perception started because Jeremy stated that coach Clifford is the first one that knows how to play him from the 5 hours conversation they had prior to Jeremy signing with he Hornets. Remember that Jeremy played for McHale and BS. He did not even see eyes to eyes with them. To have a coach that called him and actually talked X’s and O’s probably was not something he was used to. But if you think about it, any decent and reasonable coach would have done the same. Now that the preseason is over, I want to judge coach Clifford on his actions than by what we want to believe.

I don’t want to burst everyone’s bubble, but I think we should temper our expectations and not set ourselves for disappointments. I know. I know. This is just the preseason and coach might be just testing out various rotations, so it could change. I think how coach select his starting 5 for regular season and the team perform during the first 10 games will tell us a lot about coach Clifford. It will reflect what coach really think about Jeremy and whether he really knows how to optimally used him.

Maybe I am having PTSD from Jeremy playing in Houston and LA, but from what I have seen from the preseason, I have some concerns. When the preseason started, coach was gushing over Batum and Lamb. For weeks, we did not hear anything about Jeremy. I know not everything revolve around Jeremy. He was just one of the new faces, but this to me show how much he thought about Jeremy as compared to others when the preseason started. It might have changed since then.

For those of you that have been watching the games, you will have noticed Jeremy have played almost exclusively at SG. We all know that Jeremy is best suited as a PG. When he was paired with Robert on second unit, he was playing SG. When he played with Kemba on first unit, he was SG. The only time that Jeremy has played PG was when Kemba went down with any injury. I think Jeremy is most lethal when he can push the ball up on the break, but I have rarely seen him doing that.

Batum is a natural SF, but why does he insist that he played the SG spot? It’s like he is trying to pound a square peg into a round hole. I think Batum is an above average player in passing, rebound and assisting, but from what I have seen in preseason, he is very inefficient. He is the 3rd best scorer at 13PPG shooting at 39% and 29% from 3’s. He is only 4th in assist at 2.7 APG. Even Robert has more assist then him. Someone posted his usage rate a few days ago, and it was around 26% or 27%. I think it was the highest on the team. He initiate most of the offensive. Am I being unreasonable to expect the most efficient player to have the most usage? Guess who is the most efficient player on the team? It’s our man Jeremy. Although Jeremy leads the team in point and assist, he has the 4th highest usage. It’s in the low 20%, rate similar to LA. It makes absolutely no sense to me.

I know it’s just the preseason, and maybe I am biased but Jeremy is the best player on the team. That leads me to my next question. In what world do we live in and in what sport is the best player on the court not starting? I don’t buy into this narrative that Jeremy should play as a backup. Assuming the best scenario, that Jeremy plays around 30 min. We have to realize that the starters will play 70% of the time compared to 30% for reserves. Even if he plays 30 min, most of the minutes will be with starter anyway, so why not start him instead?

Here is something else that could be a concern if Batum start as a SG. Don’t discount out that Lamb could be his primary backup. If that happen, Jeremy will only be backing up Kemba. A worst case scenario could develop where Jeremy will only get 14 minutes backing up Kemba.

That being said, the world is not falling. Coach has been very fair. He let everyone play through mistakes. I have seen picks and plays set for Jeremy. That is to be expected of any reasonable coach. Furthermore, he trust his players, and he doesn’t throw them under the bus. They seem to play as a team. That is usually reflective of the coach. I think this is by far going to be Jeremy’s best season since Linsanity regardless. I can also see the growth in Jeremy’s game. This is going to be a fun season.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

There is an incredible writer from University of Southern California called Max Holm. He wrote an article called
“Don’t Wanna Be In Love: Say Goodbye To Good Charlotte.” predicting the Hornets poised to be a lottery team this year.
After you read this article, you would think NBA writers are absolutely out of this world in knowledge about basketball. NBA writers like him absolutely know nothing about team basketball.
After the Hornets impressive 7-1 record in preseason playing against the mighty Clippers twice, Miami, Magic, Bulls, Pistons and not to mention the much improved Knicks. They lost the last game to the Indiana Pacers only because they chose to let their worst players to close the game. It’s all trash. How do they get to become an NBA writer making such a wild prediction. He is destined to eat crows in the coming season. Saying the Hornets is the worst franchise in the League is absolutely unforgivable。

    • Brewkowski

Yes, surprised about IT. Maybe since he’s no longer expected back at NYK he feels he can say this about Lin and not contradict Dolan’s lack of offer to Lin.

    • TTNN

Really don’t like your exaggeration style of describing things. This Max Holm is an anticipated 2017 graduate from USC, which means he is only a Junior in college now, and you call him “incredible writer” like he has some credential, when he is only a normal NBA fan like you and me. Not sure why you stuck in this the world is against us mood.

    • Brewkowski

My kind of party. LOL, MJ wants to see who’s not wearing Jordans at his event.

    • Parent of an 8th Grader

I like “Buzz Brothers” you should recommend it to the team or the beat writers.

    • CJSHYY

Haha! I think it’s really funny. Why LA writer cares about Hornets which really has nothing to do w LA? He should talk about either Lakers or Clipper since he’s in LA? Someone is afraid of Lin will stay w Hornets after this year? Interesting….LOL!

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Perhaps the world is against us is a bigger exaggeration than mine. So agree to disagree and just move on. If you don’t understand what I write, please don’t distort it.

    • Yascar

Absolutely agree. I also think expectations should be tempered. If I have PTSD, then so be it. I only hope Jeremy plays to the best of his ability and situation. Everything else is probably out of his control.

I can’t wait for this season to start.

    • Riddick

Great points that reflect my thoughts too. I’m personally not jumping on the bandwagon of this coach/team/players this early in the game. They have a lot of potential, but the early games clearly indicates it’s up to how much this org is willing to let Lin shine to win games. Learned to wait and see.

    • TTNN

there are some good NBA analyst who has good credentials noticed the change of Hornets yet you don’t bother to talk about, but would like to zoom in to some no name fan blogger who might be lazy or slow in catch up the trend .

Also on the other hand, it is not that surprise people are slow there, its not the end of the world, and it is not like it never happened to other team before.

Just don’t like to focus on the negative side of it.

    • orLinaryjoe

Hi, good to see you’ve found your way here. Perhaps some kind posters here can kindly share real advice on how to increase this NY fans’ chances of meeting Lin in her next game adventure.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Exactly! Why would he spend his time on a small town trashing Michael Jordon and his team even before the season begins.

Max Holm told us that he was mad that the Hornets not selecting Winslow whom he think was the best player available. He was mad that the Hornets not taking Boston’s offer for the ninth pick and picked Kaminsky. He was mad that the Hornets was building on draft choices having Walker and MKG. He wanted MJ to trade Walker. He was mad that the experiment of getting Lance Stephenson on the team didn’t work out.

However, those things above has nothing to do with the prediction that the Hornets would be one of the worst teams in NBA. From what we can see in the preseason, this team competes well against the good teams with their highly ranked players. Chris Paul was mad at himself and took responsibility of losing. They didn’t give the game away. They simply lost it on the court. Common sense tells us that the Hornets must have done something right to put together a good team to compete in NBA.

Max Holm accused Hornets relying on pipe dreams to build a team with players like Jeremy Lin, Cody Zeller and Jeremy Lamb. He’s not happy that the team traded for Batum. Before all the results of the Hornets off season movements come out, Max Holm prematurely told the world that the team is going to fail. The regular season will begin at the end of this month. Within a few more months, we could see if the Hornets are making the right decisions. Max Holm just couldn’t wait.

Last season, the team recruited Lance Stephenson with blessings from the media and subsequently failed badly. Now the team has made so many controversial changes. We could see with our own eyes the results of all those movements.

When people couldn’t dazzle you with brilliance, they try to baffle you with bs. All those rhetoric used in the article only serves to piss off the Hornet fans after the team accomplished their best preseason record in team history.

    • orLinaryjoe

Are we there yet, as my kids would say?
Pretty optimistic here. Comparing Lin’s experience to finding the right girlfriend and possible wife. His first relationship started on such high, but ended diasyrously with talk of prenups.

Lin moved on to a prior team he dated, and ended being the third wheel.
Next, Lin dated big time Lakers, just find they were not really interested in a long time relationship. It was a farce that lead to seperation.

Out of nowhere, Lin meets small town Hornets. They talk for hours, effortlessly. The chemistry is right and their dates have just been fabulous thus far. Even traveled to China together and bonding big time. Don’t know about you, pretty positive this may work out. It won’t be perfect, but worth a shot.

Let’s not let old time flings poison our possible current relationships, shall we?

      Lol, just having some fun.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Why don’t you move on. I don’t even want to discuss with you in your framework. You miss my point totally. Forget it, would you?

    • Good honest assessment by Rick Bonnell that Lin is probably needed to lead 2nd unit but will close the games.

Plus Lin didn’t score empty points in preseason (although he could) to inflate his stats but it’s within the system

What really made that closing lineup work however was Lin. The new point guard had an incredible preseason for the Hornets, and even found himself starting a couple times. He showcased an ability to play with Walker that will surely help his minutes this season, and he did a fantastic job penetrating to distribute the ball to 3-point shooters in the second units. It’s unlikely Lin will find himself in the starting lineup, because of how well he manages the second unit, but at the moment he’s likely to be one of those guys closing out games.

The most crucial part to everything the Hornets did this offseason is so much of it felt like process over results. If the Hornets averaged 110 points per game during preseason while running last year’s horror show of an offense then nobody would have expected that to be sustainable. However, because there were obvious changes it allowed fans to be encouraged by their play. Lin in particular could have easily been putting up empty numbers, but his play was clearly within a system that was working, and again that’s something to be excited about.

    • I hope so ..
Hansbrough can really make a difference

    • Maknusia

      Welcome aboard! @Parent of an 8th Grader:disqus

    • Maknusia

Thanks for pointing it out…I have not had the time read most of the linked articled posted here…

Glad that they had noticed that Lin is not empty number stacker

    • CJSHYY

I am optimistic. I think Lin will start & very likely as PG. Got this from the other side.

Isiah says that Kemba gets the last shot while Lin makes the decisions during the course of the game.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Jeremy seems to be having fun playing whatever role coach Clifford asks him to do. I don’t have a problem with that. Jeremy has compiled very good stats doing what he did. Jeremy is doing well now. What more do you want?

    • CJSHYY

Wow! NBA keeps promoting Lin. Love it. LOL!

    • Acbc

LA and BS ….hmmm, maybe something in the San Andrés fault!?

    • Chris B.

That is why I think we should have a wait and see approach. After 10 games, we will probably see if the situation is ideal for Jeremy and the team. We shouldn’t assume that he will be getting 30 min a game and winning 6th Man of The Year. But you are right, so far, I have never seen Jeremy this happy since Linsanity. I am not expecting the worst, but hoping for the best.

    • Acbc

Max Holm trying to maximize his chance of getting a job by kissing Butt or maybe j&j Buzz!? The problem is when the Buzz brothers (aka, Lin and Walker) beats the Butt out of J&J Buzz, he’s going to look sooo bad that he’ll be run out of town. Lol

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      I love the hair style.
This is the protection that Jeremy needs. In the past, players just hit him so hard on the head without getting called for a foul. Now I’ll see them do it again. Hair don’t lie.

    • CJSHYY

I like it now. Looks good. Also a good protection too. LOL!

    • Kwok Wai Lai

I want Jeremy to be happy. That’s the point. You could play him 35 minutes but what if he isn’t happy. Now he plays only 25 minutes in Chicago’s game and he’s the star and the game changer. What would you rather have Lin doing?

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Good move. You can send players like Harrison there to play and learn about the game of basketball. You could be sure they’re ready when you call them up.

    • Jedi

      Top 4 in East!

    • Acbc

People put so much into being a starter when the only thing that truly matters is who finishes. Guess what, Lin’s played most of them except the blowout against the clippers when he started and stomped on the Clippers who were clearly trying send a message in the first quarter.

Let’s put it another way, Lin was a starter in Houston and he was yanked aft 4-5 minutes by Mchale. Many games he played off bench minutes standing in the corner. We forget so quickly how miserable Lin was in Houston and LA. Give the guy a breather already and just let him have some fun for himself instead of having to live up to tiger fans expectations and putting out fires in his workplace.

    • Chris B.

You are missing my point. Why can’t he be happy and play to the best of his potential? They are not mutually exclusive.

    • Chris B.

I am just saying we should wait and see. It’s preseason. Almost everyone is getting the same minutes in preseason because they are being evaluated. What happen in preseason does not guaranteed what will happen when the season start.

    • Michael

Does your id mean that you will only be with us for one year?

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Who is to decide what’s best for him?
Jeremy Lin, of course! This coach is going to help him get rid of his bad habits before taking him big time.
I believe coach Clifford is more anxious to play him at his best potential because it’s good for the team too.

    • Dan Cohen

you have to understand..he has to fit in somehow..

if you take a look at his linsanity days hair and as it progresses to now, it’s more in tune with the rest of the nba players somewhat. During linsanity, his hairdo is like fob.. a typical chinese person. During houston, it’s along with dwight etc.. and then now, it’s like spikey …aka doesn’t look like a fob.

I mean. how many afros you see nowadways in the nba.. in the past yes..but now..no..and also afros is fine because bbal is mostly predominantly black.

    • Acbc

I think it is all the people who wants Lin to start miss the point. Lin wants desperately to start, he doesn’t need us to climb all over him with constant harassment of his workplace. The glass ceiling is there for all Asians in corporate America. You can pretend it doesn’t exist but it makes it very difficult to get beyond. You have to be at least 2 to 3 times as good as the next person to get ahead. Lin has a hair crack of a chance this year to become a star and he’s sharpen his own hair to make it happen. Lin fans should just leave him alone and let him do his magic with the opportunity he’s given.

    • Michael

      Yes siree…better?

    • blueCypher

I, still, would like it better if Lin trolls the league with the un-gelled bowl cut

    • occupatio

wow thats a horrible picture. looks like constipation

    • KHuang

In today’s superficial culture, Lin gets positive attention in the American media solely for his hair and not his game.

    • KHuang

      Not true.

Kwok Wai Lai calls out EVERYBODY who writes wrong hate garbage about Lin.

A hate article is a hate article. Why should Kwok be criticized for discussing it?

    • KHuang

It all depends on what your goal is for Lin.

The way I see it, Clifford judiciously uses Lin to win games.

As long as Clifford keeps doing that, I’m just fine and Lin seems to be too.

    • KHuang

      Even finishing doesn’t matter.

If Lin puts the game so far ahead that he doesn’t need to play, EVEN BETTER.

    • BobbyH

      LOL. Good point.

    • KHuang

Oh, a college student being “eddicated?”

EVEN MORE REASON to trash his lame hate article.

College students should be learning to write rational and researched pieces, not pointless hate drivel like what was offered up.

“Lin…very underrated player in this league, but could be the Hornets most valuable player..not in terms of points scored but in terms of what he brings to the basketball team this year”

      Isiah Thomas

    • KHuang

      OK, I yield sort of.

    • Alain Gervais

I’m starting to think management has a big impact on the media a player gets. Lin git zero while in houston. A little in La. I think it will be more in hornets.

    • Acbc

It would be great to have Wade try to cover Lin as SG. Lin should just run that around the world play all day long and run him into lots of picks. Make Wade so tired chasing Lin that he’ll blow his top. Man, that’d be fun to watch.

    • spiderman

would be funny to see him lose it early on

    • blueCypher

Holy, this is so sad . I’m shocked

    • Kwok Wai Lai

That tells us Lin has done something right for himself. He knows what to do to get positive attention helping himself. His new hairstyle is well planned and serve good purposes.

    • Michael

      ^^ Good to know.

    • CJSHYY

I think so bc w/o Lin even w Batum this team will pretty much like last year. Can’t wait to see how far Lin can take the team next season.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

If I may push a little further, the management is the reason that Lin receives the sort of attention that he gets; first in Houston, then in LA and then in Charlotte. Since the management in Charlotte is all positive about getting JLin, I see all positive feedback. When Lin haters come, I see local people silence them.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

They find ways to coexist. They build beautiful relationship on or off the court. They are helping and learning from one another. Lin, Charlotte is a nice place to settle down.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Thank you. Lin hating is irrational and wherever Lin goes, it follows. I just want people understand that there is no accidence that Lin receives so much negativity from big cities. There must be a reason behind it. Could that be sponsored activities?

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Agree!

    • LAJane

I like it, because Jeremy is low to efficiently reverse direction and it’s working beautifully because the guy guarding him is realizing a little too late that he’s already fully committed to the Wrong Direction 😀

    • Kwok Wai Lai

As I recall there is an recent article that classify Coach Clifford as coaches on shaky ground.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

It is an effort trying not to classify Hornets as a playoff team.

    • Joe what do you know

      Here it is

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Linsanity is a turnaround.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

This team is ranked as high as number 2 in the Conference.
Last time they met, they set some back screen to render Jeremy helpless. Coach Clifford said immediately after the game that he would watch the film about this. It’s absolutely a game that you don’t want as the first game in regular season. I would rather Hornets play the Cavaliers instead.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Wade resorted to tricks and fouls covering Lin. He hit Jeremy’s arm so hard that you could hear it from the sideline.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      as usual LOL.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Jeremy plus his hair is 6’7″ at least.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Drama King!

    • Kwok Wai Lai

The intensity of the first game is building up. Last time they met, Miami kept Hassan Whiteside from playing. Whiteside vs Big Al. If Big Al could draw fouls from Whiteside, that would make the game interesting.

That’s not going to happen. This team starts building from draft choices. They won’t move Walker to the bench. Jefferson is a free agent that was signed and immediately took them to playoff. He’s only 30. The Hornets has to make do with both. The old teammates are going to play with the new additions. The results haven’t been anything less than superb. It is a battle of coaching. Clifford vs Spoelstra. They have ample time to prepare for their teams.

Hassan Whiteside is what the Hornets need to deal with; the big man of Hornets need to deal with. I guess guards need to help double team Whiteside and create TOs.

    • DaBoss

As we from USC would say, “Fight On”!!!

    • Kwok Wai Lai

It’s the depth of PG rather than who starts that matters most. It’s almost like a playoff game; each side wants to have this game badly. The intensity of this game will be unbelievable. Pray that Big Al would be OK.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Spencer Hawes with his height and passing would be a fine choice to sub Al. Cody for Marvin Williams, Lin and Kemba has to play big minutes because Roberts isn’t up to it.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Why not?
This is going to be a Linsane season

    • Kwok Wai Lai

It really depends on if Roberts can step up enough. My bet is Roberts won’t.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

The competitive advantage of the Hornets is versatility. They may start with Walker, Batum, Marvin Williams, Zeller and Big Al. Then they would put Lin in for Batum, Batum for Marvin, Marvin for Zeller, Zeller for Big Al. SG->SF, SF->PF, PF->C. The tempo of the game will pick up immediately and the team will start running at a very fast tempo that old man like Wade, Deng and Bosh could not keep up with.

It’s always team defense. Players helping out a lot in switching and back screening. So it really depends on the coach who draws up the game plan to pan it out how the game should be played.

    • Steppen03

Hellooo, fellow Lin fans. Good morning, afternoon, night wherever you are =)
Like 99% great posts here, we just have to wait and watch with an open mind. Just let us enjoy the First 10 games before making any more comments regarding rotation, coach’s decisions, etc… I’m so pumped right now because of the teams that we have to face in coming weeks. Bottom line: Get the W for each and every games and see Lin get a chance to play Freely. Let’s Go, Hornets – here’s to 9-1 Start. Nothing is written on stone. We rise up and elevate ourselves and inspires others.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

One game at a time. Let’s start with the mighty Miami Heat. This is a pretty old team. Let the young legs of the Hornets run them off the court. Let the Buzz Brothers have their way.

    • CJSHYY

I like this statement — “not in terms of points scored but in terms of what he brings to the basketball team this year”

    • Steppen03

Let Lin & Hornets play their brand of basketball and prove to “Themselves” that they are what they believe. Find peace within First – not finding faults in others.

Just FYI while reading the LA times sports section today there was an article predicting playoff contenders. The writer predicted Hornets at #7 seed above Heat at #8.

    • Rick Johnson

LA times projection on Easter Conference. Though they do project them to make the playoffs I think they will be surprised at how well the Hornets do:

      http://www.latimes.com/sports/nba/la-sp-nba-east-caps-20151025-story.html

      7. Charlotte

      2014-15 finish: 33-49

Projected starters: Al Jefferson, Kemba Walker, Nicolas Batum, Marvin Williams,Jeremy Lamb.

Top reserves: Jeremy Lin, Spencer Hawes, Cody Zeller, P.J. Hairston, Frank Kaminsky.

These Hornets could produce a playoff buzz thanks to an infusion of complementary players intended to take pressure off Jefferson and Walker. Batum should be an adequate replacement — and an upgrade offensively — for Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, lost for the season after shoulder surgery. Leaving Los Angeles should be a good thing for Lin and Hawes, who seek bounce-back seasons.

    • CJSHYY

My projected starters almost the same but it’s Lin not Lamb. I also believe they will make it to playoff. #? not sure yet bc have not see Hornets play in regular season.

    • webattorney

I was thinking if LIn does a great job of leading 2nd unit for Hornets, which I think he will, this may further peg him as a “great” bench player. This is why I think Lin has to show this season what he can do as a starter for an entire season, or he will forever be pegged as a great bench player. Obviously,. I will enjoy watching however and whatever position he plays.

      From the other side….

Article, “TAG Heuer announced new partnership with the Chinese Basketball Association”, Oct 24, 2015:

“TAG Heuer announced in the symbolic Beijing Olympic Sports Centre, its agreement with CBA, making the Swiss watchmaker the, ‘CBA Official Timekeeper’ and ‘CBA Official Watch’ throughout two season from 2015 to 2017.”

“Star players from Beijing Beikong Basketball Club, Yu Liang, Li Xuesong and Yu Xuelin attended the event and accepted the #DontCrackUnderPressure shooting challenge in the TAG Heuer 24-second countdown.”

In my very limited experience with business law there is no problem with Lin and the Hornets. Jeremy Lin entered into a contract with the Charlotte Hornets. He agreed to play for certain period of time for an agreed amount of money. It was underood that the player would give his best effort to the employer and the employer woulp pay the agreed salary for those services. According to what il have heard certain things beyond beyond the contract that are not legally binding were discussed. From my understanding both parties are
following both the legal and oral agreement. Lin, as am employee, is0 follow his employers instruction and beIng paid per contract. At this point neither party has lbreeched the legal contract the broken their word? Webbattorney please ent. Thanks.

Another “analysts believe…” article by people who haven’t even watched the games. I KNOW this because no one who watched the Shenzhen game can seriously believe Lamb will start.

    • CJSHYY

Haha! Well said… Don’t think coach is that high on Lamb after Shenshen game …. LOL!

    • TTNN

um, I kind of look into the pre-season games in terms of their shooting efficiency and stuff, and I write up an analysis. Looks to me, the team is doing a great defensive work in pre-season, which is even more impressive than their offensive improvement.

“At the Hive” has a new article by Austin Peters discussing the Hornets’ offense. Here is a selection of some of the main points.

      See : http://www.atthehive.com/2015/10/25/9606380/charlotte-hornets-offense-better-ball-movement
      __________
      1. The league is trending in the direction of ball movement … . Passing up a good shot for a great shot is what separates pretenders from contenders.

      2. Losing a ball stopper like Lance Stephenson and filling those minutes in with exceptional playmakers like Nicolas Batum and Jeremy Lin will naturally make the Hornets’ offense better. … with a new uptempo, free flowing system in place, the Hornets
are now shooting more jumpers within a flow and rhythm instead of trying to go crazy on their own.

      3. Adding above average three point shooters in Batum, Lin, rookie Frank Kaminsky, and Jeremy Lamb give them [i.e. Charlotte] the types of spot up players you need to make a fast paced, high ball movement offense work.

      4. Everyone agrees that this new Hornets motion offense is ten times better than whatever it is this team threw on the court last season. … The downside to this new type of motion, however, is that their previous offensive focal points are now in a system that doesn’t use their strengths. [Roles of Al and Kemba are discussed.]

      5. … with the new additions of shooters on this team and more emphasis on getting great shots off of ball movement, it isn’t unrealistic that this team could get up to a top 10-12 offense. … . You know that Coach Clifford is going to get this team to lock in on defense, and having a top half team on both ends of the floor normally is a recipe for a playoff berth.

This O system is totally so Lin’s game. The writer is also notice this system these two players (Al & Kemba) are not that important anymore…Can’t agree more. They need Lin more than Kemba.

    • sport

Technically Lin and Batum. Actually I’m fine with Kemba but Al is really too old school. I cringe whenever he goes to his post moves and misses every time. ><"

    • blueCypher

      Looking forward to this

    • Joe what do you know

They really should’ve used a chronometer rated movement with GMT complication. Much more useful that way. I fail to see what JLin’s image has got to do with a 300m rated dive watch…

    • CJSHYY

Ya! I think they should let someone younger & get more Reb to be new C.

    • sport

Yes, just not sure whether politics prevents coach from benching Al. I mean even Paul Pierce is off the bench now in Clippers after making those buzzer beater shots last playoff.

    • CJSHYY

I think they will trade Al so before 12/15, he will get his playing time for good stats. If this is not work then either play less or bench.

    • John Lee

    • Acbc

Team culture is very difficult to foster. It takes real courage and determination to hold fast to old ideas that seem so archaic. Spurs build their team like a family and build up players with patience and coddle aging stars by managing their play time and keeping them off bench until they are gently reminded it’s time to retire as a Spur.

Given a choice, I’d say Lin would rather help Al and Kemba adapt than give up on them like a used up old car. I’m old school as well and don’t particularly like the way this world treats people like pieces and commodity like Morey does. It’s far more difficult to run a team this way, but look at how well the Spurs have managed it, while Morey has created an atmosphere of a shark tank with everyone out for their own.

If you want to play team ball, you have to treat people with respect and build from within.

    • GoodDayLA

I hate the rockets but I hate the Lakers more I hate them even before jlin was trade there so I dont realy like the lakers from the very beginning………btw I am a spurs fan since tim duncan drafted but heres my question

here in my place they view the rockets championship years (hakeem) a luck, do not count you know mJ paly baseball and mj was rusty when comeback but after MJ settle you never heard rockets again they become scrub team……everyone and everywhere I go ask them they laugh at rockets championship and every basketball fanatic and every other team fan also dismiss rocket championship they even joke the only way rockets win championship now if lebron or other stars play baseball…
so from your place and people you talk are they dismiss rockets championship? cause in my place men they laugh at it and make fun of it………………….its really the stigma of rockets mj play baseball…..heres another joke I heard whats the most hated sports of rockets fans? its BASEBALL…and they laugh hard

I live in houston. I’m still bummed Lin did not work out here since I could watch him in person. Anyways, houston fans point out that from 91-93 the bulls record against rockets were 1-5. Bulls had trouble against centers and hakeem was the best at the time. The rockets were denied any final matchup against the bulls. The two years the rockets got there in 94 and 95 were the two years jordan did not make it. Would be nice if hakeem played Jordan in the finals. In the regular season hakeem beats Jordan.

Will Jeremy Lin Crack Charlotte Hornets’ Starting Lineup?
      http://hoopshabit.com/2015/10/21/will-jeremy-lin-crack-charlotte-hornets-starting-lineup/

I strongly encourage everybody takes a look at what this Lin hater is made of.

He claims that 43% FG% is not respectable.
      John Wall’s career FG% is 43.1%.
      Damian Lillard’s career FG% is 42.9%
      Russell Westbrook’s career FG% is 43.2%. Last season his FG% was 42.6%

    • JAD2456

From around 5 min and a half till the end, she explained why she adores Jeremy Lin as a role model and she looks to him when she felt depressed. She also wants everyone to give a shout out to Jeremy Lin and encourage everyone to say thank you to the people you love or you admire. That was what she did there. So I think she is a nice young kid and did this video to express her admiration and she showed a very positive attitude. She is a good Lin fan. She bought 2 copies of Linsanity the movie!

I never really retired. I just coached youth basketball for the past several years. Paly’s coach took another job and I felt like taking the job was the right thing to do at this time. We are building two new gyms and won’t have a gym for the next two years.

      JeremyLin.Net:
Is it true you had to kick Jeremy out of practice a few times in his early days in high school?

      Peter:
I never kicked Jeremy out of practice.

      JeremyLin.Net:
Was his attitude really that bad?

      Peter:
He was such a good player and he was always ultra competitive so he often struggled with motivation in certain types of practice drills. He didn’t always bring all his energy in some drills. His attitude improved throughout his high school career.

      JeremyLin.Net:
Jeremy stated that when he injured his ankle his jr year before the state playoffs, that was the turning point for him . Did you see that too and how so?

      Peter:
Yes I definitely saw a much more mature Jeremy after that injury. I think he just felt a higher sense of urgency.

      JeremyLin.Net:
How tough has it been watching the last three years and why do you think things didn’t work out well in and Houston and LA?

      Peter:
He’s had a lot of very good games the last three years. But it definitely has been frustrating watching him play for coaches that don’t trust him or believe in him or understand his game.
And I think that was the reason he didn’t play up to his potential.

      JeremyLin.Net:
Why do you think it’s so tough for teams to see his true worth in the NBA?

      Peter:
I disagree with this premise. I think there are a lot of teams that know his true worth. There were a lot of teams that were interested in him this past off season. I just think he needs a good coach and he hasn’t had good fortune in that regard.

      JeremyLin.Net:
Were you surprised like the rest of us when he signed with the hornets?

      Peter:
      Yes I was surprised.

      JeremyLin.Net:
What is your take on the Hornets and their coaching staff?

      Peter:
I haven’t watched them very much. But talking with Jeremy it sounds like the coaching staff is very good.

      JeremyLin.Net:
Besides seeing Jeremy at your summer camp, do you get to spend time with him during the summer?

      Peter:
We always try and go out for some meals each summer. We did that again this past summer as well.

      JeremyLin.Net:
How often do you guys talk and do you critique his game with him in the off season or during the regular season?

      Peter:
We talk regularly. Doc handles him in the off-season. I like to watch his games and give him some feedback after each game.

      JeremyLin.Net:
What do you want to see more of from Jeremy this season?

      Peter:
I just want to see a consistent approach from him each game. I want him to play each game with an aggressive, attacking attitude. I thinks that’s when he’s at his best.

      JeremyLin.Net:
It’s obvious he is having fun again and playing well and with a lot of confidence. How much of it is just having the opportunity and the right fit vs how much he’s improved his game?

      Peter:
I think with Jeremy his play is very closely tied to how his coach is handling him. If the coach is consistent and is making decisions based on how Jeremy is performing then that is something that Jeremy can work with.

      JeremyLin.Net:
What are your expectations for Jeremy and the Hornets this season?

      Peter:
I expect the Hornets to challenge for a playoff spot. I expect Jeremy to be a key contributor to their success.

      JeremyLin.Net:
Can you tell us something or a short story about Jeremy that maybe no one has heard before?

      Peter:
      Jeremy really loves Laffy Taffy.

      JeremyLin.Net:
Thanks so much for spending time with us and sharing great insights on Jeremy! Good luck this season and I can’t wait to see the new Lin-Diepenbrock Gym!

      Sweet tooth!….LaffyTaffy

    • Lam

Why? Is there some kind of feud between the two sites? I think the two sites are complementary to each other , the ying and yang of Lin fan sites.

    • Maknusia

read below John Lee did a Bruce Lee!

    • Lam

I must say, he does look strange in this picture, like some small weird kid among those bigs…

    • KHuang

Because in the American media, rotten garbage is routinely what’s served to Lin and Asians.

Kwok Wai Lai is merely the FOOD SERVICE INSPECTOR.

    • KHuang

I play the Frozen theme professionally all the time, so that doesn’t scare me.

The concept that “Lin can’t shoot” is a recurring theme we heard all summer from not just the media but from Lin fans that believed that “Lin had to work on his shooting”.

I actually fought this same argument with tons of Lin fans who are STILL angry with me for saying that “Lin’s a GREAT shooter”.

    • KHuang

Here in America, basketball fans do not take the championship Rockets seriously but take Hakeem Olajuwon VERY seriously.

After all, he WAS the Rockets.

    • KHuang

With the preferential refereeing and extreme PED usage, Jordan was supermanly unapproachable in a way that no other mortal save Linsanity has ever approached.

    • KHuang

No offense runs properly in the NBA unless you have players good enough to run that offense.

    • John Lee

Yeah, one who’s not being paid!

    • John Lee

Lin IS a great shooter, why would anyone be upset with you over that?

    • CJSHYY

Wow! He talked to Lin a lot…

      JeremyLin.Net:

      Q. How often do you guys talk and do you critique his game with him in the off season or during the regular season?

      Peter:

      A. We talk regularly. Doc handles him in the off-season. I like to watch his games and give him some feedback after each game.

    • The regular season is just around the corner. I can’t wait for what the new season holds for JLin and the Hornets. Here’s a round up of what impressed me most from JLin during preseason. https://jhaposts.wordpress.com/2015/10/26/jeremy-lin-impressive-preseason/. Hope everyone enjoys and thanks for your continued support.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Yep I suspected so. JLin trusts those ones that helped him tons in the past. He knows what he is doing. Am thankful that he has people that who can help him to reach his potential.

    • KHuang

I enjoy reading Kwok’s posts that call out negative posters, as it helps educate me and others on what’s going on in the media world.

    • KHuang

LOTS OF PEOPLE flamed me and called me a troll for calling Lin that.

Most Lin fans believe that Lin has gaping holes in his shooting game and that his percentages historically have not been high enough.

I try to tell them that the notion Lin can’t shoot is a “media concoction”, that the percentages do not support their notions that Lin “doesn’t shoot well enough”. That’s when most Lin fans get REALLY MAD at me.

    • KHuang

Because these media fools are loud and in full public view, they DO carry weight.

And it’s our entertainment to FRY those fools, publicly too.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Thank you. Huang.
I just want to tell the whole world that what sort of people hates on Jeremy and his basketball.
Many of them don’t even watch basketball. They hate Jeremy Lin and what he represents; good nature. Let’s don’t forget to watch for the wolves though they are ugly and look ferocious. We still have to fight them whenever we could to make peace to the world. We shouldn’t sink our head under sand and pretends nothing has happened and they aren’t there. I believe we won’t hesitate to expose them.

    • Maknusia

something wrong your connection?…double post 🙂

I honestly don’t believe that there is any politics going on. Politics implies agenda for personal gain. This franchise seems to do things for elevating the team and building team character.

Much has been said already about the shift to a new style away from what Al and Kemba is used to. What you see and hear is two guys trying very hard to do the right thing to adapt away from what has been their break and butter. These are high character guys! IMO, it’s easier to work with guys like that that ball hogs and selfish players like Lance, which is why they got rid of him.

Both Al and Kemba are struggling because they are having to think before executing. It’s all new to them. At this level, if you think about what you are doing, it’s already too late. It takes time and huge effort to change a game style. How many guys in the league are willing to do that? Not many.

You can’t teach character, but you can teach technique.

    • GoJLin!

Thanks to point out the negative posters and warning us what’s going on in some bad media world; I appreciated some Lin Fans are so knowledgeable and can give them some “to the point” fight back. For some of us may be too emotional and not good on handling those situations, just avoid to click them to protect our own health (to avoid the high blood pressure). Whenever we reply those negative post, try to think how our beloved JLin will handle it.

    • CJSHYY

Al? Don’t think they will keep him. More likely to trade him if they can this season.

    • Arsenium12 .
    • Maknusia

refresh fixed my display…earlier it showed the same lesson learned video that you posted below

    • CJSHYY
    • Rick Johnson

Maybe they can get Adre Drummond.

    • Rick Johnson

I can see how JLin’s cheap salary helps them next year. They will have more cap space at the beginning of free agency to recruit talent. Then they can pay him a big contract and go over the cap.

    • GoJLin!

I am not sure about the politics part of the front office (too difficult to guess), but truly believe that Al and Kemba both trying very hard to do the right thing to adapt the new team ball style and agreed that Lin would rather help Al and Kemba adapt than give up on them. Best wishes on JLin & his new team!

    • Maknusia

cool of her to make the video!…thank you

Jeremy’s all smiles during the off season even before he signed with the Hornets. Also, he and papa LIn did mention that there were about 9 teams contacted his agent indicating interests to sign him. So it’s crystal clear that Jeremy’s rather in high demand. If Jeremy plays his game and helps the Hornets advance deep in the playoffs, rest assured he will have a big contract awaiting him, be it from the Hornets or other teams. *.*

    • CJSHYY

Oh! He’s good. But sure will be hot ….

    • Wayne Li

Worry about Hornets’ pace (97.1) which is 18th, they have to increase their pace if they want to make playoffs.

    • Yellow

Wow, girls got talent and they gonna make it Big!!!

Simmon eyes were blinking with the $$$$$$££££££

    • Rick Johnson

      JLin is working on it

    • Rick Johnson

JLin can guard Curry in the right system:

      https://twitter.com/sn_nba/status/658673891494273024

    • Rick Johnson

Wonder what the pace is when you take Jefferson out. Or if JLin at PG rather than Walker?

    • CJSHYY

When Lin was in Rox, he did well guard Curry.

    • CJSHYY

      Move Al.

    • CJSHYY

      Haha! Ya!

    • KHuang

When Lin was in Lakers, he did well guard Curry (despite the 1 game where Kobe was messing up the entire team).

    • KHuang

Pace is of NO IMPORTANCE with an ELITE defensive team like this year’s Hornets.

If the Hornets can keep defending but score just enough to win, they’ll easily be the Memphis of the East.

    • KHuang

      Unlikely.

Bur Roy Hibbert who’s better than Drummond defensively and is far more fundamentally sound?

That’s THE target that the Hornets should go for.

    • KHuang

We Lin fans are the only obstacle standing in the way of trashing Asian Americans in the media.

    • Alain Gervais

lamb paid more then lin lol

    • KHuang

Had the champion Warriors played against Charlotte in China, they’d have been blown out by the exact same margins.

If anything, the 1st game might have gone even worse for the Warriors than it did for the Clippers when Paul was sitting and Prigioni was legitimately trying to lead the team in an unselfish way.

    • TTNN

In preseason, Hornets ranked 2nd on defense.
