Preseason4 LAC @ CHA Game Thread

For the first time in the preseason, Jeremy Lin will start at Shooting Guard (SG) position next to Kemba.
Cody Zeller will start at Power Forward (PF) in place of Jeremy Lamb. It would be an interesting experiment to see the dynamics of Lin/Kemba backcourt.
If this lineup is promising, it might increase the chance to be a new starting lineup in the regular season or at least a good lineup to close out games.

The Lin/Zeller chemistry was evident in the last game as they scored the game high 16pts each with great connection between them.

Will CP3 play to even out the wins as Clippers and Hornets play in front of their respective owners?

This could be a very exciting game as each team will be motivated to win.

Let’s hope the Kemba/Lin/Batum/Zeller/Al can be productive against Clippers starters and Kemba/Lin/Batum trio can feed off each other
Let’s go, JLin! Cheer for him, Shanghai!

I just realized that Damien Wilkins has the same agent as Lin (Tandem Sports / Jim Tanner).

    • Dorothy

West Coast maybe a little later, but I thought the rest of the US played already.

    • real-dsb

no, usually shows are shown at the same LOCAL time zone in the U.S., so west coast sees it 3 hours after east coast. (Sometimes, central time zone is shown 1 hour “earlier” local time to make it the exact same time as east coast).

CP3 didn’t play last game, so it’s convenient for non-believers to dismiss Hornets’ victory in Shenzhen. Here’s hoping the new starting lineup mops the floor with CP3-led Clippers so that the lineup is cemented.

One thing’s for sure, though…No one on either team is as smooth as Frank!!! LOL

Cody Zeller so far the preseason is 12/12 in Field Goals / FG Attempts => 100%
      His FT is 7/13 = 54%
      His 3P is 3/3 => 100%

    • takemeback2reaganyears

He averages 11 ppg in 3 preseason games in 22 mpg.

    • [Apologies in advance for the long post]
I’m glad that Coach Cliff is doing the right thing and testing out the starting lineup with Lin and Zeller. So far, Coach Cliff has met my high expectations of him regarding his treatment of Jeremy Lin. I expect him to continue to experiment with different lineups, but I just hope he doesn’t give up if the Hornets get destroyed by the Clippers in Game 2. Note, I said destroyed, not just lose. Destroyed means things could get pretty ugly for the Hornets, which could give Coach Cliff pause about starting Lin and Zeller.

I don’t mean to be a Debbie Downer, but I expect the Hornets to lose game 2 for a few reasons that mostly have to do with the particular circumstances of Game 2. I think, even though this is pre-season, Doc Rivers is pissed that they sort of got embarrassed in front of a big audience in Game 1. I don’t think the Clippers were prepared for the Hornets in Game 1 (which is understandable, since it’s preseason), so I think Doc is out for revenge and will be treating this game more than just another pre-season game. I think he wants to win. He’s out for blood. Meanwhile, I think the Hornets are pretty content with how they’re doing and it is natural at this stage to be complacent and just go through the motions in Game 2. I think they’re all just looking forward to going back home and just want to get this Game 2 over with. All this is happening subconsciously behind the surface, of course. As a result, I don’t think the Hornets won’t bring as much energy as they did in Game 1. I’m hoping that the electrifying environment will serve to counterbalance this and get them pumped more than they would be otherwise.

Anyway, this is a recipe for the Hornets not just potentially losing the game, but it could possibly get ugly and that’s what I’m concerned about. So, essentially Lin and Zeller are set up to fail, although I don’t think that’s Cliff’s intention. I just hope Cliff is wise enough to understand the context and won’t give up on the idea of potentially starting Lin/Zeller if the Hornets look awful in Game 2 vs. Clippers.

I have low expectations for Game 2. I’m not expecting a win, but I’d be thrilled if the starters have some flow (good spacing, etc.) and Lin/Walker show that they’re able to share the ball. I’d also be thrilled if Brian Roberts shows that he’s capable of running the second unit when Lin isn’t on the floor. I’d be very surprised if the Hornets win. But IF Hornets do manage to win, that’s a big statement to me about how good this team is talent-wise and mentally. Normally, I don’t take pre-season games that seriously, but I think this particular Game 2 vs. Clippers is different. The Hornets will be playing against a team loaded with talent (Chris Paul is expected to start) that is potentially out for blood.

    • Steppen03

Lets grab 2-0 against Doc’s Clipps. It was Not cool for Doc to play down on Warriors championship (not having to face them and the Spurs). Not Cool, Doc! Shoud have more class than that… Like Klay’s comment on that “like to face them but they couldn’t handle their business.” Curry’s comment is even more awesome.

Curry: “I apologize for us being healthy, I apologize for us playing who was in front of us. I apologize for all the accolades we received as a team and individually. I’m very, truly sorry, and we’ll rectify that situation this year.”

    • CJSHYY

I don’t think Clippers will destroy Hornets in the oversea game. These are for both teams fans happy. Normally will get one win for each team. So I think it’s very likely Clippers will win tomorrow. I just want Lin to have good stats & hopefully can get a win. Haha!

    • Tommy

Lamb is kemba’s boy they played in college together I think and he is a good player a good scorer
I think he will end up starting at 2

    • Steppen03

      Great post, Andy!
But I beg to differ. #1: JL7 will always be pumped up in China games, but it’s more than that – he’s unleashed now so he will go all out even it’s preseason. #2: Coach Cliff wants to win too. And never too early to get a head start. It’s time to gel guys together by winning good, hanging tough, together. #3: His Airness is in the audience.

    • Yeah, I hope things work out well. I’m just saying that the situation is very much not ideal. Although I did predict that Lin would start in at least one of the two games in China (http://www.jeremylintel.com/2015/10/06/theres-a-good-chance-jeremy-lin-starts-due-to-injury-to-michael-kidd-gilchrist/) it would have been nice if it was Game 1. But just glad that coach is testing out the lineup, since I also want Zeller to start.

    • Steppen03

I think it will be a close game But the Hornets’ chance is just as good as the Clippers, in honest opinion. If JL7 gets HOT, the Hornets WILL take this game as well.

    • CJSHYY

I really think coach wants Lin to start as SG since this summer. He talked about for Lin & Kemba be like GSW’s backcourt. But I guess Lin likes to be PG more than SG.

For Lin, I think it’s best to back to starting lineup that will be much better for his career. Have to see how things go tomorrow then.

    • Acbc

Clifford has backbone, he sat Lance Stephenson when he felt Lance wasn’t doing what he was told. Kemba won’t have any sway on the subject. Only coaching staff will decide who is best for the team and why.

    • Thanks!

Yeah, I’m sure Lin will be pumped, I’m more worried about the team as a whole. Just psychologically it’s understandable that they would be complacent in this situation. But what I am hoping is that the electrifying environment will serve to counterbalance the natural tendency in this situation to just go through the motions. I think Walker will also be pumped, because I think Walker is really enjoying the spotlight. I can tell he really wanted to give the Chinese fans a show. We’ll see. Hope the Hornets surprise me and at least do pretty well even if they don’t win.

    • If it’s a close game, I would be thrilled! That’s all I’m asking for is a competitive game where the Hornets, as a whole, look good and have good flow and chemistry.

    • Rick Johnson

Probably pretty easy learn . Everywhere they go fans are probably calling out his name. They probably start hearing his name in their sleep after a while. LOL. ? ???

    • Alain Gervais

i don’t think hornets have another option outside lin at sg especially how they are playing. with seller in there they are effectively starting their best 5

    • Rick Johnson

      Who is Edcon Gabriel?

    • Acbc

IMO, they may lose because Lin may ease up on them just to be a good fraternity brother of the players association. I know it will be close unless Clifford sits Lin second half or 4th because Lin is also a fierce competitor. When push comes to shove, the bench strength will decide the outcome and frankly the hornets second unit look pretty tough.

If the clippers want to play to win, I say bring it on, let’s rumble.

    • Ha ha. I like you’re confidence!

    • Steppen03

Andy, This Hornets is coming together much faster than any other new teams. All because of JL7 / Coach Cliff duo. They ARE a threat now. They will be competing with every teams.

    • Rick Johnson

Second unit looks tough when Lin is in it. Not sure how they do without him. Perhaps Lin will play some minutes with the bench to shore then up.

    • CJSHYY

I think this lineup it’s their best starting 5 too. But they are still need more time to play together. Win or Loss it’s not matter just hope they can have good team work together tomorrow.

    • joyce ward

Lamb can’t guard any body and the starting unit is not fluid with him and Williams

    • John Lee

Lamb’s primary issue is his D. He started at 2 and did badly in front of MJ, which hurt his chances.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

I’m literally in shock just now to learn from my second cousin FB that a distant relative who was one of my childhood playmates for few years passed away suddenly. Didn’t expect that kind of news when I checked my FB:-( Haven’t seen him since my family moved away. That was more than 40 years ago.

    • blueCypher

Ya, it was cringe-worthy his performance on Reddick last game. Don’t know if he didn’t do his homework or what.

    • Peter Truong From Riverside CA

Jlin was only on for 5 sec on “FOB” lame

    • CJSHYY

I agree Lamb’s D just like Harden. smh!

    • CJSHYY

5 sec? Maybe more to come later then…?!

    • Peter Truong From Riverside CA

      We’ll see

    • blueCypher

That 5 seconds probably took half a day to shoot haha. It was more like a cameo. I could see that character as a recurring cameo later on.

    • Acbc

The truth is, none of these guys ever want to lose AT ANYTHING. Even collegiate athletes that are a few rungs below these pros will want to win at whatever games you play them. Winning as an obsession is one of the reasons these guys get to that level. The trick is harnessing that aggression.

Guys like CP3 may hate to lose because of ego, but Lin hates to lose because it marks his own process as an indicator of unaccomplished tasks. Lin releashes competition, the tougher the better because he uses them as a measure of his process. So yeah bring it because when you knock me down, I’ll get up and become even better.

    • KHuang

JJ Redick is the best true shooting guard in the NBA.

He’s finally figured out how to use picks to lose defenders.

Redick is probably the most underrated shooting guard in the NBA today.

    • LW

I agree! Since Lin and Cody are starters, Clifford will not play them late in the 4th when the game is on the line. And I don’t think they want Clippers to look bad in China either. Lin and the starters just have to show a good flow. Come on, it’s a preseason exhibition game.

    • I would have a lot more confidence if Lin was THE starting PG, since I know he’s really pumped to give the Chinese fans a show. But because, as far as I know, Lin and Walker haven’t played together in practice (since they’re always in different colored practice jerseys), it’ll be a huge challenge for them to figure out their roles on the fly in a pretty non-ideal situation against a very talented team that’s out for blood. So that’s my concern, as well. If it was just “the Jeremy Lin show” (where Lin is running the show and getting the whole team to play team ball), then I’d have confidence that the Hornets will compete tomorrow. My concern is that both Lin and Walker may hesitate and be indecisive, because they’re trying to figure out how to best work together. Lin might have PTSD flashbacks of the old days where he feels like he has to defer, etc., even though he knows intellectually that this is a different situation, so he might not play loose and free like he has been. Hesitation/indecisiveness is a killer in any performance endeavor. But we’ll see. Hope for the best.

    • LAJane

I’m with Acbc on this…I don’t think it’s psychologically understandable that they’d be complacent. Not sure what you’ve seen that makes you fear that. Are they having too much fun? Distracted? In interviews they’ve said they appreciate the chance to test their game against a really good team like the Clips. Individually they know they’re being roster-evaluated, they also know Clifford is determined about team ball and they’re working hard to jell, their boss is in the stands, and with the spotlight of Lin/China fandom on them they don’t want to look lame. I think they’re very motivated. If they don’t win, I don’t think it’ll be due to complacency. Edit: I think Jeremy is well and truly beyond any shadow of PTSD, and I really don’t think either Lin or Walker have the psychology of hesitation or indecision.

    • John Lee

Sorry to hear about your loss. This is the kind of news which reminds us that life is short, and we should really make it count.

    • Rick Johnson
    • Yeah, so far, they are gelling very quickly. For Lin fans, this is not surprising, since that’s Lin’s specialty. He’s pretty much the embodiment of the Spurs spirit. I mean, that was exactly what Linsanity was all about. Lin walked on the court having not practiced with any of those guys and turned the rag tag squad into a team instantly!

    • blubell
    • CJSHYY

I think this maybe will be his last season. Hope so….JC is really not a PG. Kept shooting for his own stats finally late 3Q got 1 AS. smh!

    • spiderman

Oh no. There goes their championship

    • TTNN

Don’t agree with you here. First of all, they practiced together. At the first practice during scrimmage, Lin actually switched teams in the middle, so he practice with both team. And the first couple of days, both Lin and Kemba has been wearing white jersey, same with Batum.

Second, I don’t think they are going to lose this game, there will be a fight for sure. but if you pay attention to that 3 min when Lin/Kemba/Batum played together, you will notice the big difference in their playing style. If you like their pingpang passing play between Lin/Hawes/Zeller, you are going to like the Lin/Kemba/Batum line up, there is tons of ball movement and player movement, and there is really no traditional PG, everyone could attack, it is very much like Rockets offense, but more screens and more complicated. It is a beauty, and I’.m actually kind of excited to see it

    • Hope

I hope the score will be 120-97 Charlotte.

    • orLinaryjoe

Oh no, tank mode comes early.

    • blubell

Oh no, BScott’ will keep his job…

    • CJSHYY

They don’t need to tank, they are really bad. LOL!

    • Jedi

Not so sneaky. I was 2nd!
I’ll like to take this time to remind everyone of my achievement again.

    • So sorry to hear about your loss :[ My friend’s mom also just passed away after a tough battle with cancer.
She got to meet with JLin personally last year (Lin was very nice) since she was also a fan and had a wonderful testimony of the hope of being reunited again someday.

John is right. Life is so precious and worth celebrating in every small ways.

    • I didn’t know Lin has practiced with Walker. That is good to know. In the practice pictures I’ve seen, Lin is always wearing a different color jersey than Walker. But I don’t look at every practice picture, so it’s good to know that they’ve practiced together.

Also, I do agree that the Lin/Walker/Batum/Zeller lineup will be lethal, because all of these guys are capable play makers, which is why I want them to start. My concern was just that they might not look good in the Game 2 vs. Clippers due to certain circumstances and I also thought they haven’t practiced together, etc. So all I’m trying to say is that if they look awful together in Game 2, I’m hoping that Cliff is wise enough to not give up on the idea, because, I do think the Lin/Walker/Batum/Zeller lineup is lethal.

I also think that the way to go, if they go with this starting lineup, is to not have a traditional PG. Ideally, if they start Lin, I’m hoping Coach Cliff just sees it as the Hornets have two combo guards starting, not that Lin is a starting SG and Walker is a starting PG. And, I think from what Cliff has said, this is the way Cliff sees it if he decides to start Lin.

    • KHuang

We WANT Scott to keep his job.

Let him run the Lakers into the ground.

    • blueCypher

Doesn’t seem that serious at the moment

    • TTNN

      http://i.imgur.com/lq0gNfc.gif

You don’t get this kind of play without practice together. I do feel coach Cliff prepared them very well, they have their own goal to reach, but also utilize the game to test those things out. I never feel coach Clifford was under prepared, yet I do feel Clipper was like that in the first game.

I do feel coach Clifford anticipate Clipper will play more seriously, thus he is willing to test his strongest line up and see how they looks against a strong opponent. I do feel this team has another gear and we have not seen in long stretch yet.

    • KHuang

      BRING IT ON.

The Hornets, particularly the newcomers, are young hungry athletic veterans that are itching to prove themselves against the best teams like the Clippers.

Several of the Hornets have never faced playoff intensity – but Lin and Hansbrough have. Those two will help get the team ready for rugged Clippers play.

    • KHuang

Let the young inexperienced guys like Zeller TAKE THEIR HITS NOW.

That’ll only prepare them more for actual games.

    • blueCypher

      I like this Mudiay kid

    • sws94

Good post. Possibly. I think Doc wasn’t at all pleased with his team and will want to win this one. And it is possible Lin can have an off game. He’s had 2 really good ones and one OK one. I don’t expect him to be as good or sharp this game and also expect Doc to want to not have him go off in this game. It’s a good test for him. It’s also Lin takes a complementary role in this game, focuses on D and hustle and not so much scoring or playmaking as much as the last game.

    • KHuang

I gently do not agree at all.

The best 5 are Lin, Lamb, Williams, Hansbrough, and Kaminsky.

Even Lamb’s defense wouldn’t be as bad with those seasoned players calling out coverages and exhorting him to hustle.

    • KHuang

      I don’t – he’s slowfooted and is a turnover machine.

    • KHuang

4-12 is a high percentage for Bryant.

    • John Lee

“Even deeper” into the ground, they’ve been there for a while already.

    • KHuang

Lamb picked up some bad habits from OKC.

He was a better defender in college, more attentive and more intelligent.

But once Lamb gets out there with Lin and has Linstructor barking out coverages and encouraging Lamb to hustle, Lamb will GET IT.

    • Actually, Jeremy Lin, during Linsanity, managed to get a team he hadn’t practiced with gel instantly. I think Lin still mostly practices playing with the second unit so far, anyhow.

Yeah, I do think Cliff is wise enough to know that the Clippers will be out for blood and the players should understand this, as well. So hopefully my concern is overblown.

    • KHuang

NOW we are in the Chinese Super Bowl!

by the way, Lin is the Chinese Super Bowl by himself when he does the bowl haircut thing.

    • John Lee

Brain lapse…Or Jeremy’s SO awesome that he time travels!

    • but it’s a good idea .. we should pitch an idea that one of the kids had a dream of shocking the NBA by coming off the bench to become a basketball hero in Madison Square Garden

    • Whitman Lam

I’m saddened to hear that. It’s difficult to accept that someone close to us can die at any time suddenly. Life is always too short. Live life to da fullest.

    • orLinaryjoe

      From bad to worse.

    • Whitman Lam

MJ values defense on all his teams. It was defense that forged the Chicago Bulls championship legacy.

    • Good points. This being pre-season, there is a lot of motivation to perform in order to secure minutes. So I think because of this, they won’t be as complacent as they would if this was a regular season game. Also, as I said, I’m also counting on the fact that they’ll be playing in the electrifying environment of the Chinese fan base to motivate them.

My thoughts about complacency is a little complicated. But without going into too much detail, there’s a natural tendency when things are going better than expected to kind of let off (this is sort of why it’s hard to sweep a playoff series, not quite the same, but sort of the same idea).

This is compounded with being far away from home and looking forward to just being back in your own bed after a job well done, etc. There’s a tendency to just want to get it over with so they can go back home. In game 1, there’s a lot of excitement, because you just got there and so you’re pumped. But towards the end of a trip, you’re just sort of looking forward to going back home, as a result, you’re less present in the moment (since your mind is in the future looking forward to being home, etc.). This is sort of some of the things I’m thinking of. It has nothing to do with what the players are saying. This stuff is all happening at a subconscious level, so it’s not like the players or aware of or will admit that they’re complacent or feeling like they just want to phone it in and get it over with, etc.

    • blubell
    • Rick Johnson

He should be Chao again coming to visit and coaches Eddie’s basket ball team.

    • CJSHYY

I think so bc Kobe was not running that fast so….

    • Ha ha. Thanks for being gentle.

I assume that Walker will be in the starting lineup no matter what. But, yeah, if we take Walker out of the starting lineup, then I would go with Lin/Lamb. I think Lin/Lamb is the better starting lineup than Lin/Walker for sure. But just trying to be realistic. I guess I should have said best, most realistic starting lineup.

So the best most realistic starting lineup HAS to have Batum, Walker, and Big Al. I’m not familiar enough with Williams’s game to for sure favor Zeller over Williams, but I think I’ve heard that Zeller did take Williams starting spot towards the end of last season. But not sure if that’s correct. I do like Lin with Zeller so far, so if you start Lin, then I think it makes sense to start Zeller.

    • blubell

Anyone going to bed early to watch the game @5AM?

    • awesome .. Naturally Coach Chao should teach them the principle of “Chao-sanity”!
It’s not about the shoes, it’s about the Hair!

    • takemeback2reaganyears

So the Lakers played with an NBA team tonight, same result.

    • Rick Johnson

Didn’t they think it was a contusion (bruise) before when it turned out to be a fracture?

      http://www.cbc.ca/sports/basketball/nba/kobe-bryant-says-recovery-from-knee-fracture-is-going-slow-1.2476316

Initially, Bryant didn’t think he was seriously hurt against Memphis. He went down late in the third quarter, but returned to finish out the victory in which he logged a season-high 21 points in 32 minutes.

“I didn’t know it was fractured,” he said. “I was expecting a bone bruise more than anything else. I thought (the doctor) was joking when he told me.”

With Kobe now you can write off any injury as “nothing”

    • takemeback2reaganyears

Go to bed is easy, fall to sleep with excitement is challenge.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

If that caused injury, he won’t last after thanksgiving.

    • Rick Johnson

I don’t even see any contact. How do you get a contusion without contact?

    • zxcvb

I like him way more than D’Angelo Russell. His physical tools are good, he’s unselfish, and he could be good in time. But he needs to develop a jumper. Right now, he has none but that could change.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

Old car with too many previous problems

    • CJSHYY

Not Rondo, the other guy. They did running into each other but Kobe was slow ….Should be OK no big deal I guess.

    • zxcvb

2016 Watch: If Lin proves himself in ~30mpg with the Hornets, he may look to Milwaukee. MCW is an inefficient paper tiger and the Bucks could desperately use Lin’s excitement and popularity, esp. with their new arena upcoming.

    • blubell

I’ve been up since 6AM today so I am actually sleepy right now… Will be falling asleep soon πŸ™‚

    • CJSHYY

I don’t think Lin likes Kidd to be his coach.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

One step at a time friend. This alert is too premature.

    • Rick Johnson

Really. I don’t see any contact of Rondo with Kobe’s knee anywhere. I see Rondo kind of trip Kobe with his right foot against Kobe’s right foot. Perhaps the right foot kicked the left knee?

    • zxcvb

Ha, true. But hey, this is a Lin forum.

    • zxcvb

Maybe not in off-court attitude, but in terms of game. J-Kidd and Lin are both team players and winners.

    • ra

i hate waking up early but not tomorrow

    • CJSHYY

I can’t tell who he’s? But Kobe’s left leg did touch that guy?

    • CJSHYY

I doubt they like each other. If Kidd wants to get Lin why he didn’t do it this summer?

    • leeda harun

      how about coach clifford?

    • Rick Johnson

Oh you mean right at the end? Perhaps. Kind of funny clip then, the part of interest is at the very end and cut off.

    • zxcvb

I think he prefers players like Lin & Batum over Kemba & Lance, but MJ is the owner. If Lin has a nice season as 6th man and Kemba is 100% the starting PG. Lin will look elsewhere.

He signed a cheap short-term deal for a reason. Player option after this year…

    • leeda harun

Maybe….maybe not.well it is up to Lin…if he is happy in charlotte..than so be it πŸ™‚

    • Alain Gervais

if lin succee at charlotte just stay. i hate the stat of 4 teams in 5 years or whatever it was

    • real-dsb

      wow, good memory

    • real-dsb

lol. so is there a vine of the cameo yet?

    • Coach Clifford is also on the last year of his contract.
If Clifford doesn’t stay but likes coaching Lin, they could be a package.

But realistically, if the Hornets break through big time with JLin this year, MJ probably would do anything to keep Clifford and Lin. Nothing wrong with that πŸ™‚

I saw the article on how hard MJ pushed for Hornets to play Global Games in Asia, his business mind probably won’t relinquish his biggest acquisition so easily.

MJ gets in Lin BB smarts & Asian marketing star which is as close as having a golden goose nowadays lol

    • CJSHYY

      Ya! I don’t know who he’s?

    • I like your training before game day!

    • steven ko

if Lin is allowed to play his game and given a market value salary, i think he stays with Coach Clifford…

    • real-dsb

I told you Cody Zeller >> Curry >> Ray Allen =)

    • steven ko

Lost a lot of respect for J-Kidd for his cheap shot on Lin a few years back…

    • steven ko

Check out our old friend Ronnie Price’s stat line tonight…very Lin-like…not! but still good production for a 1.5 mil player…

    • Interesting that CP3 and JLin held the ball

    • orLinaryjoe

      Thinking the same.

    • Ben Johnson

agreed…have Jeremy pump up Kemba’s efficiency, then trade him off for a top 10 SG…don’t resign Al Jefferson and move one of the bigs to the starting center position…future lineup of Jeremy – Top 10 SG – Batum – Kaminsky – Zeller/Hawes…with MKG as sixth man

    • Briiick

1 AS is good under BS.

    • fire9flyer

      have to keep Cho too.

    • steven ko

Hope Jeremy will match Reggie Jackson’s numbers: 17-7-5 but w/o the 5 TOs!

    • CJSHYY

If he’s a SG I doubt he will have the chance to get that many AS. TO rate will down for sure.

    • Keith

      old man.

    • GoodDayLA

you are overthinking things. Lin and the Hornets will do fine. Maybe they lose but it won’t be some terrible loss.

I think the Hornets will win quite frankly.

    • steven ko

      talk about high efficiency

    • GoodDayLA

      overblown

    • GoodDayLA

i totally disagree. totally. starting game 2 is perfect. You WANT Lin to face CP3 and a loaded squad. Not prigioni.

If Lin stinks, then he stinks. Let him test himself. Don’t be so scared.

    • bolero

Kobe left the game to be with Lamar Odom. Lamar is in coma fighting for his life..

    • Kwok Wai Lai

If his teammates can hold on Jeremy’s pass and put it into the hoop, Lin will have at least that many assists. But the stats isn’t telling everything. Jeremy could have hockey assists, ping pong assists and his teammates might get fouled, that wouldn’t be counted as assists at all.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Eric Bledsoe sat out the game because of STOMACH ILLNESS. Ronnie got fouled out in just 23 minutes. That’s his defense.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

I guess Hawes will back up big Al and Marvin Williams back up Zeller. MKG won’t play until playoff. For the time being Lin-Kemba-Batum-Zeller-Al will work as well as Lin-Kemba-Batum-Zeller-Hawes.
The bench will be Roberts-Lamb-Williams-Hawes-Kaminsky (Tyler). Williams might even have to play SF to back up Batum too.
I want to see Damien Wilkins play too.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

To preserve the team chemistry, MJ would have to figure something out before the end of the coming season.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Yeah. As long as the Hornets go deep in the playoff.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Season hasn’t even started yet.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Tanking mode starts.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

They need their top 3 picks.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Walker-Lin-Batum-Zeller-Al might not be as good as Walker-Lin-Batum-Zeller-Hawes but I think it’s close to be the Hornets best lineup. Chris Paul won’t be able to play too many minutes. Once the passing game of Hornets get started, it won’t be easy for Jordon and Griffin to defend. The Hornets is a fairly deep team in the preseason, I figure it would be a very difficult game for the Clippers to turn things around. The momentum is on the Hornets side.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

The starting lineup all have a chip on their shoulder. This is a very competitive team with lots of energy. The Clippers have to run to cover the offense and their defense couldn’t handle the perimeter shots and the drives at the same time. It doesn’t occurred to me that the Clippers has the kind of energy now to play against the Hornets. With Lin in the lineup, the defense of the Hornets will start clicking sooner. It will be just like a playoff game for the Hornets now. Listen to Lin’s postgame interview, you will get the sort of excitement of the team now. They have already sensed blood for the coming season with their new team chemistry.

This team needs to get Kaminsky ready for the regular season soon because Marvin Williams can then back up Batum instead of Zeller. Kaminsky can back up both big Al and Hawes which will offer the depth that the Hornets need.

Wish to see Damien Wilkins play, he could definitely contribute right away for the Hornets in both SG and SF too. Harrison, Hairston, Troy Daniels are in danger of making the team. Thompson and Washburn probably don’t have a chance.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Rox swept Indiana China two years ago.
Yeah I’m sort of expecting the same result. The Clippers might play harder but they are hurt. Their bench was not overpowering anyone in the last game. It’ up to the bench to decide on who’s more ready to take the game to the next level. The starters of this game are good. I believe it’s going to be a very tight game and Coach will have the chance to test more lineups and play more players this game.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Again the traditional concept of PG is making things blurry and confusing us.
There are many types of PG. Kemba Walker and Lin all have their strength and weaknesses. They seem to complement each other pretty well.

Note, Coach Clifford’s team hasn’t given up easy baskets. The Clippers has to work for everything they get. I expect this will be a very tight game from the beginning to the end. Lance Stephenson wasn’t a factor at all. He tried too hard to flop and stumble. Josh Smith was fine but he couldn’t handle Zeller nor Hawes down low. Crawford and Redick could be stopped too.

Just relax and see a new breed of Hornets taking the game to the next level. The Hornets has been improving in every game they played. They defeated Miami and Orlando in preseason. These two teams are not stepovers. They are fairly competitive teams too. So don’t worry.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

The whole team steps up since the injury of MKG. I expect a good game and I trust Coach Clifford has everything figured out against the Clippers. There would be no easy buckets for the Clippers.

The strength of the Hornets is in their PF position. They could deal with the Griffin-Jordon connection. Zeller-Hawes-Tyler are of high energy and they could play against anyone in NBA now. Big Al has improved in every game he played. I guess he
would do a better job against Jordon this time. I have confidence in the play making of Lin-Batum-Walker trio. They would click in big games and take it to the next level.

Five hours from now, there will be a great game against one of the elite teams in NBA who has got stronger in the off season with worthy additions of Josh Smith, Paul Pierce and Wesley Johnson. This is a better team than the team in last season. I can’t wait till the regular season. The Hornets has proved to be a very competitive team in the preseason and hopefully they would start well in the regular season in the weaker Eastern Conference.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Stomach touching the ground now for Lakers.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

The Lakers can only take a game from Maccabi Haifa. They essentially lost all their preseason games. Byron Scott wanted to have 4 point shots to save their season. Not gonna to happen, tank commander.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

It’s too late now. Lin probably wouldn’t consider the volatile situation in the Milwaukee at PG. Lin gets along pretty well with Kemba.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Kidd doesn’t seem like the gentleman Clifford is. Coach Clifford is a real coach; not just any NBA player converted coach. I trust Coach Clifford much more. Lin should stay in Charlotte and may be able to go to the conference Finals challenging the Cleveland, Atlanta and Raptors.

Hornets players look really serious before the game. I guess they are pretty nervous too.
It’s more like Clifford against Doc Rivers for this game.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

It’s one hour and fifteen minutes before the game now.
      I’m pretty nervous too.
This is the first time that Jeremy starting for the team. The team has done so well and they have boosted my confidence as well as expectation about them. However, win or loss doesn’t matter because this is not what the preseason is mainly about. But winning means Coach Clifford has found the winning chemistry for the team.
Big Al is my concern. If he can assert himself against Jordon, it would create more opportunities for the perimeter offense too. If not, Spencer Hawes should step in with his outstanding passing ability.
      Go Hornets go!

Big Al should be the one who is nervous because he has to play against DeAndre Jordon.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lin are actually two different types of PG and they really learn from each other.
So perish the thought that one will replace the other.

“Lin’s hair will be all the rage!”

    • blubell
    • IsabeliJane*17

      Sendoh’s back….

    • JW

OK. Thought the foul was on Lin. He would have to sit again then.

    • blubell

Announcers commentating on Jeremy’s hair… play by play. lol.

    • Alain Gervais

lin is 6’6 with that hair

    • blubell

Ah, I wish Cody had made that.

    • LimitedEdition

      Flagrant foul

    • Alain Gervais

pierce with a flagrant …. in the preseason

    • Rick Johnson

Pierce foul stole an assist for Lin.

    • IsabeliJane*17

Jeremy is a big man’s best friend on the floor.

    • MartyT

      thats some dirty sheet…..

    • JW

pierce went for the chest instead of the ball.

    • orLinaryjoe

      flagrant 1

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Lin-Zeller is a very deadly combination for the Clippers. They have no none who can stay with Zeller’s speed.

    • blubell

      Its playoffs in their head.

    • orLinaryjoe

      yeah, this team plays fast

    • blubell
    • orLinaryjoe

Lin to do some laundry, lol

    • MartyT

did anyone notice when zeller fell down, two hornets ran to pull him up from the 3 point line area. Good teamates.

    • Rick Johnson

Team would look more fluid with Lin at the 1

    • BUZZCITY17

In order for this team to be at its fullest potential.. Lin has to be the point.. he has to touch the ball every single possession

    • JW

This unit can go fast, but then Al can post if needed. Though they haven’t done that much

    • orLinaryjoe

MJ is up to Yao’s chin, lol

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Lin would be so tired that he couldn’t stay on the court for long.

    • Alain Gervais

      lin out

    • Rick Johnson

Exactly! Lin scoring points but team would do better with Lin at point.

    • BUZZCITY17

Why is Lin out??? makes no sense

    • cshot

      whaaaat?

    • Alain Gervais

      jj reddick

    • BUZZCITY17

He was doing a good job on JJ Reddick…

    • BUZZCITY17

    • BUZZCITY17

    • blubell

      foul trouble.

    • John Lee

Lin out, lead dwindles, MJ sees it.

    • JW

a lot of passing but can’t find open shot. forcing walker to force his shot.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

      You need to relax

    • Rick Johnson

      At 5:11 shooting foul

    • Hi phan! I’m not exactly sure what you’re referring to, but I have been writing about Lin since 2012. Here is the site: http://www.jeremylintel.com/

If you scroll down on the side panel, you’ll see a section called “Archives” where you can look through old articles. Another section called “Featured Posts” also has the best of my old articles. Hope that helps!

    • blubell

      Preseason, not playoffs. lol.

    • Alain Gervais

lin has 3 fouls in nba.com

    • MartyT

      agree with this comment.

    • Alain Gervais
    • MoominFloren

Kemba is too easy for Paul

    • Rick Johnson

      On Jordan layup

    • JW

OK. then yea, coach gotta sit him. hopefully see lin at PG in the 2nd half.

    • wu kong

its preseason they HAVE to try out lineups… give it a rest.

    • Yep, I do tend to overthink things. Looks like you are right. I haven’t been able to watch the game since ballstreams is down or something, but I’ve been seeing in my twitter feed that Lin and Hornets are doing very well so far near the end of the first half. I’m ecstatic!

    • Alain Gervais

it was already starting. they have to reset the momentum after haif time

    • Rick Johnson

Refs should ease up on the fouls on Lin. Audience wants to see him play.

    • JW

It’s not playoffs? why are we up watching this and not getting ready for work. πŸ™‚

    • LimitedEdition

      Paul sure loves to flop

    • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Is Lin under some minutes restriction count?…Why play Walker so much minutes in the first half and Lin so few?

    • orLinaryjoe

      agreed, lol

    • Alain Gervais

      foul trouble

    • Alain Gervais

hornets fadd in 2nd. need to work on it

    • blubell

He’s on the right team then.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

      Good baby sitting.

    • BUZZCITY17

Paul is severely outplaying Walker.. 14 pts to 0 pts

    • BUZZCITY17

Hornets clearly need Lin in right now.. Clifford is seeing that first hand

    • JW

walker still in cuz Clippers got starters back in. Lin has to sit with 3 foul since it is still 1st half. You want to have at least 3 fouls to give for the 2nd half.

    • Rick Johnson

      Agreed

    • Alain Gervais

it will take time to adjust

    • BUZZCITY17

Need to put Lin on Paul.. Walker on Paul aint working and its showing

    • blubell

Because I’m the biggest Jeremy fan. How dare you! lol. I slept early because my day started early yesterday. It all worked out πŸ™‚

    • Alain Gervais

walker has zero point but he isn’t forcing anything which is a good sign

    • Rick Johnson

Team losing wind in sails without Lin. Needs to work on staying out of foul trouble.

    • BUZZCITY17

      hes 0 for 5 lol

    • JW

I’ll need to get ready myself for work. gonna miss the 2nd half. oh well.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

      He’s Lin’s teammate

    • Alain Gervais

i ntice non of them. its not like harden

    • wu kong

often preseason more fouls as any new directives are tested out… preseason for refs too.

    • blubell

      I’ll probably miss the 4th quarter πŸ™

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Refs just simply want to give this game to Clippers. So they will give JLin foul for whatever reasons.

    • Alain Gervais

      lamb is a problem defensively

    • Rick Johnson

It’s the 3 fouls. Clifford wants to make sure Lin will be on the court to close the game.

    • Phillycheese

      I just finishedwork.

    • blubell
    • blubell
    • cshot

peeps need to chill. lin is playing awesome yes, but is in foul trouble. he needs to sit out a little if he wants a chance to finish the game

    • JW

Lin did well. so it’s all good. Thought he might get too nervous since he should be in a lot of pressure to do well with the first start.

    • sws94

Paul would only try to get Lin fouled out. Best to keep him on Reddick when he’s in or the 2.

    • Rick Johnson

Good point. But they should ease off Lin for this game in China. Hopefully will get some updated instructions at the half.

    • Michael

Is this really a preseason game?

    • TTNN

he was okay when he first subbed in, looks like he lost his focus easily. Did not realize he was only shooting 1/7.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

It’s not about winning. Clifford is working his players out. Get them altogether into game shape. Playing defense. That’s why Jeremy Lamb is playing more minutes than Lin because he needs it to improve on his game. Clifford has already known what Lin could do. So he rests him. Batum keeps a low profile too because Clifford wants the other guys get involved.

    • TTNN

      pretty good intensity.

    • blubell

It’s the playoffs. You missed the preseason and the regular season during your slumber. lol.

    • MartyT

      its a preseason playoff game

    • Michael

      I knew it!!

    • blubell
    • Rick Johnson

Only thing that can stop Lin now, foul trouble.

    • JW

You in Asia area? Then u will get the crazy game time after today’s game.
so you should get to enjoy lin playing some PG. I’ll have to catch it on the highlights.

    • Alain Gervais

      its hard guarding jj reddick

    • KL

I appreciate that Kemba is putting in effort on the defensive end. Good for the team.

    • BUZZCITY17

LIN stop fouling and focus.. The Hornets need you!

    • BUZZCITY17

      not good enough

    • Alain Gervais

yea. its a new lineup. let him adjust

    • your son’s voltaire

ok, Lamb sucks. and the whole Hornets team look like the Hornets team of last year.. whenever Lin isn’t on the floor

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Clifford essentially plays 10 players in the game.

    • Alain Gervais

thats not true. bench did well

    • David Kim

How was Kemba and lin playing together?
      didn’t watch the first half.

    • your son’s voltaire

the ball doesn’t move whenever Lin wasn’t on the floor

    • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Oh okay…Well, that makes sense…I didn’t realized Lin had picked up 3 personal foul.

    • JW

him and Crawford run thru screens and then quick catch and shoot. u can’t really do anything when those shots are dropping.

    • Rick Johnson

Paul is a tough cover. As long as he’s keeping Paul from going off he’s doing good. Probably should ball back to JLin on the offensive end to orchestrate though.

    • Alain Gervais

good first haif. added into second. will take a little time. a lot of promise. remember clippers are a very good team. so up by 10 is great but up by 6 is very good given who we are facing

    • Alain Gervais

he said he like 9 man rotation

    • Rick Johnson

      True.

    • Alain Gervais

thats not exactly true. obviously lin cant play for ever. we need to root on brian roberts who did well

    • KL

Overall good. Defence was solid. Lin played off the ball and scored 4 out of 4 shots including 2 three pointers. Mostly spot up shots.

    • sport

Not watching the game, going to wait until after work but just checked the scoreboard and Kemba are Lamb killing the team! Kemba is 0-7and Lamb is 1-7 in FTM-A! ><"Is Zeller being sealed off by Clippers who only made 1-2 for 3 points in 15 minutes? Big Al made shots but took 6-12 for his 12 points. Lin is the most efficient player of the team 4-5 for 10 points in only 9 minutes!

    • MartyT

Bench doing good, extended the lead. Bench points are 20-13 , hornets vs clippers bench players.

    • your son’s voltaire

i’m rooting. but i’m not gonna ignore what i’m seeing

    • Alain Gervais

it wasn’t dropping for jj. even tough he is 2-3 with 6 points. ill take it

    • Ben Johnson

Amazing how his time in Houston forged him in the fire, and helped him develop the off the ball skills we’re seeing today….objectively a top 10 combo guard at this stage of his career

    • KL

      Absolutely!

    • Rick Johnson

Lin has been in foul trouble since there first quarter.

    • sport

OMG 3 Fouls?! What happened? Refs cheating again?

    • MartyT

Smart Team oriented B ball in the first quarter with the starters.

Lots of assists, nearly every shot was assisted. Since Lin went out, there’s only been 2 assists. The team is struggling to make plays so there’s alot of Isos by various players.

    • your son’s voltaire

i meant the game is completely slower when Lin isn’t on the floor, 1st or 2nd unit. i don’t think Clifford likes that

    • JW

maybe zeller not getting the easy shots since Lin is not the PG.

    • orLinaryjoe

His hair makes him too aggressive on D, lol

    • BUZZCITY17

yo LIN is about to tear it up this 2nd half.. im thinking like 16 pts and 5 ast

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Refs want to give the game to Clippers. JLin was hot in the beginning. He scored all 10 pts of the first 10. Clippers really go all way out to win the game.

    • blubell

      The hair did it! haha.

    • Rick Johnson

Bench did good because their shots were falling but ball movement was down a notch without Lin. In games where shot not falling the lack of ball movement will be detrimental.

    • blubell
    • Kwok Wai Lai

If there is someone who can guard Redick, Lin could switch to CP3. But Batum has to play SF. That’s the situation without MKG. Of course Jeremy Lamb needs lots of polishing! He missed so many layups! SGs don’t miss that much layups but he has size and long arms in defending but his foot speed is so slow! Deplorable. Coach Clifford is helping him now by giving him so many minutes.

    • sport

Just gotta stay away from those fouls. Loose up on D and focus on scoring. πŸ™‚

    • Rick Johnson

      Exactly

    • cshot

i didn’t get to see either but i think it may have been from chasing jj reddick through screens

    • MartyT

Kemba didnt really force the shots , I only remember 2 or 3 of lamb’s shots, he drove to the basket for layup and just rimmed out. It was the right move, just lacking touch. Kinda like alot of Frank’s drives.

    • LimitedEdition

Referees are proven to be racists, no surprise

    • Rick Johnson

He doesn’t want Reddick going off like he did on Lamb.

    • Rick Johnson

      God’s tip in

    • blubell

      Beast!

    • Alain Gervais

      61-51 like that lol

    • heart

      1) Lin did well in 1st quarter. Clippers knew who’s the threat is. They got Lin into foul trouble. 2) Even though Kemba could not score he remains calm to run the point (which is ok), but the pace is too slow. 3) When Lin comes back into the game, Hornets needs to let Linl run the offense; it will be more organized and faster to take the game home, as long as they don’t let the Clippers get momentum and contain their lobs. 4) Lin should be well rested by now to tear up in the 4th.

    • blubell

      Good D

    • Ben Johnson

    • Ben Johnson

haha, yup…DJ is one of the best in the world at that

    • takemeback2reaganyears

Lin moves to the basket so beautifully, good thing is there’s only one A Jordan in this league.

    • Rick Johnson

He’s should work with Doc Scheppler

    • orLinaryjoe

      Anti jinx in full effect!

    • Marty

      thanks heaps!!

    • wu kong

      Love Melanie too!

Fouls keep stealing ASTs from Lin

    • takemeback2reaganyears

Lin is a great teammate, he wants al get going

    • CJSHYY

      First AS.

    • Alain Gervais

      we are dominating

    • Michael

It’s hard to swallow when you think you are a contender for the championship yet you’re being embarrassed in front of the world by….our boy.

    • orLinaryjoe

      Offensive foul on Clips!

    • blubell
    • Alain Gervais

      lin sits. we are dominating.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Lin plays too well and that is why he is sitting on the bench.

    • Hope

      Great assist to Al.

    • Ben Johnson

JLin has 5 boards in 16 minutes, wow! I think we’ll be seeing a few triple doubles this year in this system πŸ˜€

    • MartyT

after Lin went in, the energy went up, Clipper’s starters looking really frustrated. Its almost like, they think they are really good and they think they should be the ones dominating, but instead they find themselves losing by so much.

    • John Lee

Needs a breather and get ready for closing out the game.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

      Reddick out

    • CJSHYY

Ya! NBA wants to give this one for Clippers but they just not there yet so Lin needs to sit…LOL!

    • Hope

This team looks really good. Insanity is back

    • Rick Johnson
    • blubell

He might just get triple double – has 5 assists to go with 11p/10r.

    • Alain Gervais

clippers had only given clippers 2 point on a ally-oops. man this team is way better then i thought

    • wu kong

hornets sitting at 56% for 3’s wow!

    • John Lee

Hornets look playoff ready. If they’re doing this well against West’s elite, they’re gonna rule the East.

    • Ben Johnson

I feel like that if Lamb wasnt the 12th pick in the draft, he’d probably be playing in Europe right now

    • sws94

The Clippers are really playing poorly. Doc and his team have to be steaming and thinking that have a long way to go to get to regular season form.

    • Rick Johnson

      Lin is 3 for 3 on 3’s

    • Michael

Say that 10 times in a row.

    • Alain Gervais

      and another one kiminsky

    • MartyT

Nice move by lamb, unselfish play.

    • LimitedEdition

      Owning the Clippers, so good!

    • sws94

Even Paul is making bad looking TOs.

    • cshot

looks like lin won’t come back in if this massacre continues

    • John Lee

Hornets up by 21, and that’s with Kemba’s 1-9, against the fully-staffed Clippers!

    • MoominFloren

      21 pts lead….no Lin then

    • David Kim

I came to Internet cafe to watch the game because i couldnt watch the free streaming game through my phone. When I turned the computer, Lin got substituted by Lamb. Lol

    • MartyT

In general, very sloppy play. Giving free points to hornets.

    • John Lee

      Save the best for last.

    • John Lee

Leading by 21, let our boy rest.

    • LimitedEdition

He would definitely play in the 4th, for the fans

    • David Kim

      good!!

    • MartyT

you better hope the clippers do better than this… soon, their 3rd unit will be out …..

    • Steppen03

**Linsanity Effect** IN FULL THROTTLE!!!!! =). =). =)

    • blubell

I love winning. We should do this more often πŸ˜‰

    • David Kim

So you guys think lin will start at opening regular season game?

    • Michael

      Title for next movie.

    • CJSHYY

      Ya! I think so.

    • David Kim

      Lol

    • Alain Gervais

      we will see

    • Marty

Roberts look capable, i thought he played v well. So thats a good sign.

    • Alain Gervais

this game is what happens when the teams best 5 starts

    • Rick Johnson

Regular season game he’d sit rest of game. In China he should play the 1 and tear it up.

    • your son’s voltaire

yup. clifford wants a fast pace style with lots of 3 pointers. so Lin/Walker makes a lot of sense especially after today. Lin showed that he can guard SG’s better than anyone on the team

    • Michael

I guess you can say the Hornets have home court advantage, especially when a whole country is behind you.

    • David Kim

Yup thats the reason Lin should start.

    • MartyT

82-59 and my feed is dead again… is the 3rd unit out?

    • Steppen03

There should always be 3 PG on the team. Roberts can shoot and that’s a great asset.

    • KL

Lin benched himself by blowing the Clippers out of the water!!!

    • Alain Gervais

      lol

    • orLinaryjoe

      Mine too. try link 3

    • Brewkowski

Demoralizes opponent, gains lead and forward momentum and everyone 1st and 2nd teams are playing confident and hard. Opponent plays uphill.

    • Michael

Paul is going to have a sleepless night, as in Paul Pierce,Chris Paul and Paul Villarreal but for different reasons.

    • orLinaryjoe

      Haha. True dat

    • Alain Gervais

      29-8 third quarter

    • Brewkowski

Wonder if MJ is as excited as us for the regular season and Lin to start.

      You’re on a roll.

Alright…. time to get my NBA League Pass now..

So Cody zeller still 100% FG? Wow

    • John Lee

      I first read “you’re on a troll”…

No need to state his claim.. hahaha

    • Michael

      Get off my back.

Joining you. Gotta get my International LP.

      So is Jeremy’s 3 today.

    • David Kim

      Yup

    • John Lee

Jeremy’s hot hand rubbed off on him. LOL

Clippers down by 28!!! Held to 8 pts in 3rd quarter. Whoever said Lin’s bad on D should go kill themselves by slamming their head into a wall made of tofu.

    • wu kong

Am I dreaming?? the score is 94-59!?!?

    • David Kim

Lin guarded Reddick a lot better than Lamb. Lin is much better defender than lamb. So there is no reason that lamb should start

    • John Lee

Up by 29, hard to lose this kind of lead in just one quarter without both Harden AND Kobe on the team.

    • Michael

      Waving ^^

    • golfhacker

He did miss a FT tho:)

    • orLinaryjoe

Firm tofu wall right? Not the soft or silken one.

    • MartyT

thx, but too slow for ome, maybe because i am Australia.

    • IsabeliJane*17

Why in the world into a tofu wall???? Brick wall is easily available!

    • David Kim

Oh no. Lin done for today? Lol

    • John Lee

      Clippers given up.

    • LW

Clippers are playing pre-season and Hornets are playing mid-season.

    • John Lee

Chinese expression…but point well taken. LOL

    • John Ly

Calm down peeps, it’s only preseason and some of these teams don’t take preseason as serious. Many teams are trying out different line ups. Look at the Cavs, they are 0 – 3 so does that mean they are going to stink this year? We should all take preseason games with a grain of salt. I get it that this is a global game and it’s good for the international audience and how can you have any better by playing the Clippers and killing them.

    • BobbyH

Imagine if Lamb started at 2 in this game. The outcome will be totally different.

    • Acbc

He’s not helping your haunch over troll back any. Lol

    • KL

13p 5r 1a in just 16:32 minutes. Shooting over 70%. Jeremy is really at another level.

    • sws94

Yes and the Clippers have been stuck at 59 for like 6 minutes.

    • John Lee

Actually, Clippers played quite seriously with full lineup as they’re trying to market the team in China, and getting swept by Hornets is not the best way. No ordinary preseason game, playing for dignity after losing first one.

    • Steppen03

      Fellow J.Lin Fans,
      WOOHOO !!!…..
Let’s Build On This, Don’t Take The Foot Off The Gas Pedals!
      Lets Go, HORNETS!!!

    • Alain Gervais

      0 tov

    • orLinaryjoe

R u watching? Clip playing all out for face in China.

    • BUZZCITY17

that translates to 28 pts in 36 min

    • wu kong

but man the Clippers wanted this one so bad.. playing paul with fracture in finger, Rivers with 5 teeth just replaced!

    • Chris B.

No. The Cavs are losing because most of their players are inactive. Clippers already have a set lineu p for starting 5. Also, no team wants to be embarrassed. Why do think Rivers who got his jaw knocked bout and CP3 who fractured his finger played?

    • KL

Preseason does matter. A lot of things about the team you can see in the preseason. I like what I see so far.

    • orLinaryjoe

      Like China fans “OOOOOOOh, ahhhhhhhhh!”

    • John Ly

I understand that they are trying to save face especially playing in China and on an international stage. Let’s not all get too ahead of ourselves here. The NBA season starts on the 28th against Miami and it will be a long season. We’ll see what Clifford has in store as far as the starting line ups and rotations after the end of preseason and he can evaluate which line ups work best.

    • John Lee

      Reinserted.

    • KL

Shooting 70% with 0 tov. Wow.

    • LW

      Ouch!

    • IsabeliJane*17

I don’t know, from my standpoint in this game Clippers wanted one preseason win for international market promotions.

    • Rick Johnson

But then you have the Lakers who sucked in the preseason last year, sucked in the season and sucking again this preseason. They basically just Suck.

    • IsabeliJane*17

They suck at sucking, to be exact.

    • wu kong

yes. They would not have played Paul or Rivers if they did not really want this game.

    • John Ly

Yes, the Clippers want to win too but it’s only preseason too and they will make the necessary adjustments when the regular season starts. They too are tinkering with line ups and rotations. I am not doubting that there isn’t reasons to be excited, but I just want to remind everybody it’s preseason.

    • Rick Johnson

They should put Lin in the last 5 minutes to entertain the fans.

    • John Ly

Agreed about the Lakers and Byron Scott. Why you think C. Paul hated playing for him.

    • your son’s voltaire

Austin Rivers now has another reason not to smile

    • wu kong

but there is no way they are just calmly letting themselves get this out played…

    • Ben Johnson

not unless the clippers starters come in also…

    • LW

Poor fans in Shanghai. Watching so much garbage time.

    • IsabeliJane*17

They made adjustments. They tested lineups. To be fair, Doc put his best men out there. Still…. outmatched. If Clifford sticks to this match up against the Clippers, Clippers gonna get toasted whenever they face Hornets.

    • Love Lin

Lets see if coach Clifford could read ur mind.. πŸ™‚

    • John Ly

The big question is still…lots of NBA and fans will still argue the point that it’s after all preseason and it’s just an exhibition game for the fans to see, but Clippers will be limping away from these two games feeling embarrassed for the most part.

    • joyce ward

This game is not about Lin’s fouls, this about giving LAC a win. When lin turned up the heat in the 1st half Clippers knew they were in trouble. I told you guys what CP would do. This is him saving face to show I am still the best PG in the league. It failed miserably

    • CJSHYY

No, it’s garbage time so no starters come in.

    • Alain Gervais

stop it … not with all the injury risk out there.

    • John Ly

When Psycho T is in you know it’s garbage time.

    • John Lee

Triviality, as long as da Boss MJ knows what Jeremy can do then he’s in good hands. πŸ™‚

    • CJSHYY

I agree that’s why Lin played so less min bc he’s hot. Haha! I think Clippers would never thought Hornets can beat them. LOL!

    • Marty

i.e. not play any more minutes, so the people that didnt watch think its “just another preseason game”. I like how they re-subbed in Paul back in at the end of the 1Q with a few seconds left, just for that inbound play. Goes to show they wanted to win at first.

    • sws94

That would be in bad taste. You don’t put your top rotation guys in in a blow out. Unless you are McHale.

    • John Lee

Not just beat them, but killed them.

    • John Ly

The Hornets have pretty much given up any hopes of winning this game and now we are in the garbage time stage. Lin will not get off the pine now since it’s a big blow out.

    • Alain Gervais

he was in foul trouble. lin played less minutes on knicks because of blown out games

    • John Lee

They still want to win, just weren’t able to.

    • BUZZCITY17

      PSYCHO T LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

    • wu kong

mouth surgery like that… man throbs for a long time… you don’t play unless you have to.

    • orLinaryjoe

Gotta say, love the improvements Lin worked on in summer. So much calmer.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Don’t agree. Clippers went all out in first 3 quarters but they were “slaughtered” by Hornets. Hence, it’s such an early garbage time.

    • your son’s voltaire

think Doc hates China even more after this trip

    • John Lee

Precisely. That’s gotta hurt like crazy, don’t wish that on anyone. Wonder who did it…

    • orLinaryjoe

      OUUCH

    • Alain Gervais

the clippers have been bad all preseason so far. has zero to do with china

    • John Lee

      Plus Austin’s 5-teeth injury…such bad memories…

    • IsabeliJane*17

You know Clippers wanted a win, when you have Chris Paul chasing you closely behind and DJ is fronting you on defense.

    • John Lee

Hornets not only withstood the Clippers’ best effort, they nailed them hard. This game may be pivotal in getting our boy the starting spot.

    • orLinaryjoe

      Over 100 pts.

    • CJSHYY

      Haha! I think so. LOL!

      http://www.nba.com/clippers/knock-face-leaves-austin-rivers-sidelined

:SHENZHEN, China – Clippers guard Austin Rivers will likely miss the Clippers’ two preseason games in China after suffering an injury to his mouth in practice Friday.

Rivers said he had five teeth on the bottom row of his mouth knocked out and put back in place surgically after catching an inadvertent elbow from Branden Dawson as the rookie went up for a dunk in a scrimmage.

Rivers is expected to be reevaluated when the team returns to Los Angeles on Oct. 15.

β€œIt just hit me right in the mouth,” Rivers said. β€œThey brought me into surgery, just numbed my whole face, it took like two and a half hours.”

Rivers said he was able to locate the teeth he lost, and they were put back in place. He said he has lost a tooth before, but this was different.:

LOL at 50-22 drubbing in the 2nd half

Looks like JLin might’ve validated his spot as a starter in a big time?

    • IsabeliJane*17

So Hornets got some stretch bigs who are mobile, will play inside and has outside shots? Wow. Jeremy’s got lots of potential offensive “weapons” there.

    • CJSHYY

I think so that’s why Lin can’t play more min bc this game was supposed to give it to Clippers. LOL!

    • Acbc

Depends on how badly teeth were. Hockey players get teeth knocked out all the time. If it’s found and reinserted, it’s usually just done in a local. The roots has a less than 50/50 chance of reattaching. If not serious, it’s not painful.

What may be worst is the trauma of the joints in the mouth and the bruising of mouth and face.

Yeah, and the 197th player according to ESPN was the best player on the floor…what a freaking joke

    • John Lee

On the plus side, ESPN can transition into comedy.

Oh wait, they were already in that business with SAS.

    • IsabeliJane*17

I think they should just stick to making “This is SportsCenter” commercials instead, rather than come up with team rankings which are obviously based on the preferences of whoever gives the rankings.

Hornets must have one of the top 3pt% this preseason…what a difference from a year ago

    • haha… I’m so happy. Our boy had tendency to come up big when the opportunity is given to him.

The announcers can’t help showing lots of JLin clips on how he impacted the game.
That 3pt roll on the rim was super NICE! He must’ve had a great shooting touch today

    • LW

The Hornets are going to be formidable this season. They have decent defense and on offense, literally every one can score.

    • wu kong

2 1/2 hours of surgery… sounds pretty serious to me.

    • MartyT

I enjoyed 15 minutes of Linsanity Prime!

    • Dan Cohen

I was gonna like what you said.. it’s just preseason and doesn’t mean a thing..
But then, this is 4-0.. and that’s with clifford experimenting lineups.. and everyone learning how everyone plays. When they understadn how each plays and have a set lineup.. what do you think will happen.

Also look at the lakers, they lost again even with that clarky scroing like 17 points. So that does tell you something. lakers preseason last year sucsk also. Now wonder what warriors preseason record was last year.. if it’s winning .. that’s a telling.

Clifford: Good possibility that we’ll keep Lin as starter. He says Lin plays well regardless the group he plays with. Four more games to evaluate.

    • CJSHYY
    • Arsenium12 .
    • Acbc

That’s a lot more serious then. He may have had his jaw crushed on one side and root canals had to be done to reattach teeth.

      Wonder why they played him.

    • KL

Clifford just said that Lin has played well with any group and has done well as a starter and also off the bench. So they will continue to experiment for the preseason but there is a chance that they keep him as a starter. Said in a complimentary way.

    • TTNN

      Zeller’s FG% this season is still 100%. πŸ™‚

    • heart

      1. Satisfied with team Hornets! Of course, our man, Lin kept the team in the game the first quarter. 2. Impressed that the other starters kept calm and focused to play team ball even they could not score well at first. 3. Relieved that the bench played well also and kept the lead all the way until the end. 4. Liked Coach Clifford rotation in this game.

    • KL

Doc just said that the Hornets are much better this year.

    • I like how the 1st reporter’s question was if Lin starting & scoring 1st 10pts in the 1st quarter would help cement him as a starter.
Get straight to the main story of the game.

Clifford: We’ll definitely consider it. He’s played well in any role/group. They’ll continue to experiment.

Even if Clifford doesn’t want to commit 100%, it would be hard to ignore Lin’s ability to score first 10pts to set the tone of the game.

    • Ben Johnson

      yeah, no S!@#

    • IsabeliJane*17

He said his guys are all about scoring. Well, consider this:your team might get beat up by the opponent’s offense which required EVERYBODY to move around.

    • leeda harun

it seems to me the starting spot still belong to mkg

    • I imagine MJ is somewhere repeatedly telling people around him, “Told ya JLin was my biggest acquisition!” LOL

“Get someone to look at his Adidas contract to switch to Jordan brand. Pronto!”

    • Dan Cohen

Lin playing off the ball is the result of stinking houston fertilizer making him grow to know how to play well off the ball..
Basically he turn his weakness into his original strength.. playing with the ball in his hands. He adapt to playing off the ball via the way that once you have the ball, you are no different than if you already had the ball in your hands.. he is now able to switch that mentally immediately once he gets the ball. Like I said and 1/2 of you agree and 1/2 disagree, that I rather have him learn those skills early in his career (even though it’s tough) then later on becasue most nba players once they are not the star anymore, doesn’t know how to play well. Like mda said, you sometimes have to be an employee instead of the ceo all the time. I’m suspecting he knows how to adapt to it. Now he is a more of a complete player.

    • JW

      Lin on right now.

    • TTNN

The difference is that here, Lin play off ball is for him to score, so there are play designed for him. At Houston, Lin play off ball is simply off ball, there is no play for him, and there is no role for him. Big difference.

    • wandertheglobe

Yeah, MKG will be a starter next year. We only worried about this year.

    • CJSHYY

I like Adidas they really works well w Lin. Jordan paid cheap.

    • blueCypher

Guys, I just checked in . Missed the entire game, checked out the boxscore. How did he do for those that watched ?

    • IsabeliJane*17

In theory for this season, yes he’s still a starter, but since he’s injured the starting spot is relinquished to someone.

    • KHuang

Like I said after last game, Chris Paul playing last game would not have mattered.

If anything, Chris Paul should’ve sat this one out too.

The Clippers would have done much better without him than with him!

    • takemeback2reaganyears

Exactly, Harden only dribbled the ball isolation until he had no look then pass it off to Lin with 3 sec to shoot.

    • KHuang

Moving without the ball was NEVER a weakness for Lin.

Playing in an outdated 80s standstill iso offense was.

Now you’re seeing the REAL Lin, the Lin that got me so excited before Linsanity erupted.

    • LW

      He killed it!

    • IsabeliJane*17

Damn Jeremy gained huge muscle mass for this season! He looks like he’s gonna rip that grey shirt.I know he gained, I didn’t notice by HOW MUCH until now.He looks like a football player.

    • KHuang

It doesn’t even matter on this team whether Lin starts or not.

      Lin’s gonna play and WIN.

Ironically, he played less minutes as a starter today than he did in the other 3 games!

    • Michael

      He ruined Doc Rivers birthday.

    • Spot

      Wow. This is big.

Lin and Kemba and Batum are pretty good on D. When they will gel each other (no jokes ?) they will be pretty fun to watch.

If Charlotte had a better center than Jefferson, both defensively and offensively, this team can do great things.

I mean, wow. Clippers played pretty hard but they failed bad.

    • blueCypher

How come he only played like 16 mins from the boxscore though?

    • CJSHYY
    • KHuang

Even though I am a Roy Hibbert fan, I do not believe the Hornets can do better than Al Jefferson at center.

    • Alain Gervais

Jefferson is perfect for this team. he isn’t in the paint like Dwight clogging up the middle

    • Yascar

When that infamous shirtless pic of him was posted, somebody said he had the size and frame of a linebacker.

Andddd… you’ve just given me an excuse to have a look at that pic again for, you know, verification.

To be honest, in this team, it doesnt matter he starts or not. As long as he plays starter-minutes and closes the game. I think deep down he would rather enter the game with the ball in his hands more , therefore 2nd unit

Knowing Jeremy. NEITHER for him. He’s happy whether to start or not, and he will adjust his game whether he has the ball on his hands a lot or not.

    • grover chang

may sound strange after getting beaten so badly but Doc will be thankful for these past two games against the Hornets. The Clippers will have a great season. They will be very coachable after a “mediocre” Hornets team killed them. I recall last season as Lin/Kobe with a bad Lakers team beat Atlanta at home, after that loss the coach asked the team what type of team they wanted to be. After that the Hawks became the spurs of the east. Clippers will decide what kind of team they want to be. I suspect they will be better after these losses.

Ok here are my observations, since it is night time here and I am not at work : )

      1. Clippers came out of the gate strong, trying to intimidate and dominate. This was not just a preseason game to them. CP, DJ, Blake and Redick were out on a mission. But one guy on the Hornets stopped them from taking over, Jeremy Lin. He was electric. Every touch led to a basket. 10 points on perfect 4-4 shooting include 2 three pointers in the first few minutes. It went downhill from there for the Clippers.

      2. Kemba and Lin are great defensive guards. We will see how they cope with very tall guards but they are both lightning quick. Kemba was shooting poorly but I am really impressed that he did not sulk but kept working on CP. CP still played well but Kemba made it hard for him. Lin completely took Redick out of the game. Redick kept trying so hard to get away from Lin he was frantically running around. There was one play, Blake wanted to pass the ball to Redick but turned the ball over cause Redick was trying so hard to run away from Jeremy.

      3. Lin can play with Al. I think Lin’s experience with Dwight Howard has helped. Al is smart and forces the defence to adjust. Not sure about his passing from the post though.

      4. I was ok with Lamb shooting. I think he needs playing time and be allowed to make mistakes. He is a natural scorer. Defensively he has too many lapses in concentration.

      5. I am not sure how the bench will cope without Jeremy. There is the unselfish culture and solid defence but today they were playing with so much confidence because they already had a big lead. I think Lin may need to stagger with Kemba but Clifford has to figure this out.

      6. Batum plays better when Lin is around. Zeller is also working well with Lin.

      7. Lin was playing off the ball but does not hesitate when he is on the ball. The assist to Al was beautiful. Easily one of the best combo guards now in the league.

This team is looking great. I know it’s preseason but it is often a very useful barometer for the upcoming season. This team could be much better than anyone expected.

    • GoodDayLA

As i have said, once Clifford has the guts to start Lin at the 1& pair with a big 2 like Lamb, the NBA better watch out. As is, this is already a tough team to play against this season.

    • spiderman

Reportedly in critical condition. Hope he pulls through

    • CJSHYY

Well said. Do you think if Lin is starting SG, he is #? for O?

    • KHuang

      HANSBROUGH!!!

      Playing just like CHARLES BARKLEY!!!

    • Arsenium12 .

Someone earlier in the thread was asking about this picture …
      __________

    • Lin starting is actually very important for Hornets’s chances of winning, because more minutes for Lin = more wins for Hornets. If Lin starts, he’ll likely get the most minutes of the team, due to his versatility and his need to help run the second unit. If he doesn’t start, he’ll likely get around less than 28 minutes. It’s just the way the logistics of subbing works. It’s just really hard to break the 30 minute mark coming off the bench logistically. Harden did manage to do it in his THIRD season with OKC. But in his second season with OKC, he only averaged 26.7 minutes. Also, logistically, it’s harder to close out games from the bench, although I do expect Lin to close out most if not all games even if he comes off the bench for Cliff.

Bottom line is, if Lin starts, he’ll get a TON of minutes. If he doesn’t start, he’ll get a lot fewer minutes than he should be getting (Lin should be averaging well over 33 minutes this season).

    • KL

      What’s #? for O?

    • spiderman

You’re description of Reddick is Hilarious!

Can’t get away from …The Hair

    • GoodDayLA

Yeah his comment infers he prefer ball in hand

    • Lin is just being diplomatic, which is understandable. I would do the same thing in his situation.

    • CJSHYY

Which option for O? Like 1 for Al, 2 for Kemba… 3 for Lin like Lance last season?

    • KHuang

      Hrmphhh!!!

For the last 4 seasons, I’ve been writing that the more unselfish Lin plays the better his stats look.

      This game, NO DIFFERENT.

    • John Lee

Check out Iron Blooded Orphans, good stuff.

    • KHuang

Yah, after jacking up 5 attempts in 9 minutes!

The more Lin passes, the more the opposition has to guard Lin’s teammates. And we all know that if Lin is not double or triple covered, he will score and assist and run opponents off the court.

    • David Kim

I think Lin wants to start as a SG than backing up as a PG

    • John Lee

The scary part is that they haven’t even fully gelled yet, and the 42-point victory is despite Kemba’s 1-9. At the rate this is going Hornets will crack East’s top 4.

    • IsabeliJane*17

      3. Lin can play with Al. I think Lin’s experience with Dwight Howard has helped. Al is smart and forces the defence to adjust. Not sure about his passing from the post though. – That’s what you get when you help on defense, fronting Jeremy and leaving Al open to take a shot. I’m talking about you, Deandre Jordan!

    • KHuang

Like I keep saying, on THIS particular Charlotte team Lin is needed as a 2 guard spacer shooter and not a 1 guard distributor.

    • CJSHYY

Ya! That’s what I thought too.

    • Arsenium12 .

Lin’s Harvard roommate was at the game. Lin has a talent for making and keeping friends …

    • KHuang

Lin will always be the LAST option – but he’ll be the guy that gets the ball into the basket!

    • KL

I think Lin is going to be either #1 or #2 based on what I see today. Kemba seems to be genuinely unselfish. He is shooting badly not because he is forcing shots. He is shooting badly because he shoots badly. The one thing I miss is the Jeremy Lin fastbreak drive. There is less of that. I am not sure if it’s because of the Clippers’ defence or coach’s orders.

    • IsabeliJane*17

I gotta get a rag to wipe the drool off my keyboard, brb.

    • KHuang

As long as Lin isn’t frozen out, this egalitarian modern day offense by Clifford will allow Lin to not shoot or not pass as Lin sees fit!

    • David Kim

He said he always wants to start in his interview. Like Andy said he will gets tons of minutes if he starts.

    • Yascar

Thank you Arsenium, much obliged to you. ?

    • KL

Yeah I think the offence is going to be quite fluid. Not rigid pecking order unlike some other teams.

    • wandertheglobe

Ho was awesome at running back. He’s working for NFL China.

    • David Kim

He still can play some minutes PG with second unit even though he starts.

    • Michael

Maybe this team doesn’t need to designate who is the first, second or third option on offense. If they share the ball and trust each other the ball will find the right person, either the open person or the best miss match, at the right time. Most of them seem talented enough to make the right reads. But one thing is obvious, Lin is the best one to get the team offensive sets started.

    • CJSHYY

That’s what I thought bc Kemba usually shoot bad in the past. No lots of fastbreak maybe bc AL. He can’t do it.

    • KHuang

Yes, that’s what I wrote here before these games.

Redick can outcut and outsmart all guards in the NBA save for the one guy in the league who’s both more athletic and more Lintelligent than the great Redick is.

Keep in mind that Redick is probably THE BEST shooting guard in the entire NBA. He’s a Ray Allen level player – which means like Allen, he can get shut down by a truly great defender like Lin!

    • CJSHYY

I like Jason. Too bad, why Clippers played so bad? If it’s a more close game then Lin would be on more min.

    • sport

Revenge against Rockets would be sweeter.

    • David Kim

      I totally agree with you.

    • KL

From what I have seen these games Kemba has trouble driving all the way to the basket, and getting the ball out of the defender’s reach while laying up the ball. So he tosses a lot of floaters. Some of them go in but often they don’t.

    • Acbc

It’s a no brainer to stop the” little engine that could.” Lin is the spark that lights the fire.

    • Arsenium12 .

    • Michael

      Thanks, will do.

    • Dan Cohen

      again only preseason..but ok.

    • IsabeliJane*17

Pick your poison: front Jeremy on defense and risk leaving your man open that Jeremy can pass to him for an easy shot, or leave whoever is guarding Jeremy one-on-one and risk either Jeremy easily driving to the basket or passing to someone for an shot.Your choice.

    • blueCypher

Are you kidding me, still no highlights πŸ™‚

    • CJSHYY
    • spiderman

      Only preseason for Hornets too.
They’ll get better as they gel and play unselfishly

    • GoodDayLA

He’s just too small. I have been saying this all summer. He’s not nba efficient because he cant do what got him to the nba in the nba. And his jumper is too streaky.

The Hornets should be arriving in Charlotte tomorrow at 3 AM, according to Delta. Their flight will be much shorter this time. No stop in Anchorage. About 14 hours.
      __________

    • GoodDayLA

I do agree wit that. But the team would be better with a 3 and D big PG INSTEAD of jitterbug Kemba who shoots too streaky and cant finish layups in traffic due to being too small.

You also need a kemba type guard but he probably is not a true nba starter on an elite squad unless he really improves his jumper

    • CJSHYY
    • Acbc

Yep, Lin only cares if team wins. If it means low minutes to win, he’ll take it.

a;lmost forgot in the fun. lin had 2 really good looking step back shot. the hard work is paying off lol

    • GoodDayLA

I hope Lin continues to keep honing his shot with Doc and other pro shooting coaches the next several summers. I think by age 30, his shot will become very elite if he keeps working at it.

I’ve seen streaky guys shoot great in preseason after working on their shot all summer (Shannon Brown back on the Lakers) only to lose the stroke about 15-25 games into the season (Shannon Brown). I don’t want Lin to turn into Shannon Brown.

Even during Houston 2.0, Lin lost his shot mid way through the season after a hot start.

But this season, his shot look tremendously better. There’s more precision to it. Except for a few misses after his bloody nose, his attempts are pretty impressive and consistent.

Lin himself may not like the ball out of his hands, but the one thing good is that it reduces his predictability and places him in more triple threat situations which he may not enjoy doing as much but he has a natural talent at dominating out of it.

    • Dan Cohen

I noticed that kemba actually passes to lin for a play.
unlike harden who passes only when it’s a hot potato. But it’s all on mchale.. he lets him do whatever

    • GoodDayLA

is that Steve Balmer at the end? I think it is. Surprised he stayed that long if its him

    • IsabeliJane*17

Reddick, that’s your defense against Jeremy Lin? Lol ok.

    • blueCypher

Jeez, Bstreams still does not have it on in-demand

    • KL

I think TTNN said it very nicely in that with the Hornets, Lin plays off the ball as an true SG to score and to be part of the play. Not just waiting around for the ISO star to do whatever he wants cause the coach can’t draw plays.

    • Dan Ang

    • GoodDayLA

Doc River’s bench has a lot of names on it, but not a lot of leadership within it. CP3 is more of an iron fist ruler on the court than a leader. This team will be really good, but it will have a tough time beating Charlotte even when the regular seasons hits.

Expect JJ REDDICK to barely play if Lin is the starting 2 in the future.

    • jakey

    • Tey Ling

There will be a manifold increase in number of fans from China following JLin & Hornets games after these 2 incredible wins against the Clippers.

Lin came out and responded right away to the aggression from Clippers with his own fierce fighting spirit. He stomped on them on both ends and took their legs right away out from underneath them. The tone was set and all he needed was maintenance for the rest of the game.

      That’s a real leader.

    • GoodDayLA

    • blubell

      Haha. Why not!

    • They can imagine the headlines:

“Lindispensable Asset in Air Jordan Empire”
“I should trademark the phrase #LinTheZone

    • Arsenium12 .

Hornets call Lin “Player of the Game”

Jeremy Lin started both halves with a 3-pointer that got the Shanghai crowd on its feet and seemingly ignited the Hornets offense in both frames. He scored Charlotte’s first 10 points and finished with 13 points, while averaging 14.5 points in the two-game NBA Global Games set.

      See : http://www.nba.com/hornets/hornets-sweep-global-games-set-clippers
      __________

    • If Lin’s confidence continues to grow, we might have to moderate a hot debate of which one is better “JLin the PG” vs “JLin the SG” !

    • Acbc

One time in highschool during an away game, their fans were chanting the same thing. Only later after we lost did I realize that they were messing with me. Not sure about the timing here either.

    • JAD2456

Of course he wants to start, never doubt about ti!

    • LAJane

Looking at the stats, Hornets have 7 players scoring double digits while LAC have two; Hornets have 25 ASTs while LAC have 17. I say this is another easy win against a strong western team. Hornets could be looking at eastern conference final this season.

    • LAJane

Did a little net-snooping…looks like it might have been Lay (Zhang Yixing) of the Korean idol group EXO, main dancer in the sub-group EXO-M.

    • Nash-like comments should be coming out more from non-Lin fans
      (or new Lin fans)

    • Alain Gervais

    • rL

Kinda agree with blueCypher. If he can get at 6-8 min mark in 1st quarter and play 12 minutes, then in 2nd half again at 8min mark for the rest of the game. Seems like 30 min is doable. The thing I like about him being in 2nd unit is that he, together with Hawes, can get the entire 2nd unit going and clobber the opponents 2nd units. When Cody and Jeremy starts, there are just less opportunities for those 2.

    • GoodDayLA

Right now the US media has shifted back to accepting that Lin is a serviceable role player. In the summer, the media was saying Lin was on his way out of the NBA. What a joke.

    • wu kong

and to think last year when players were smiling and goofing after a win Kobe just had to squash the fun. what a difference!

    • Alain Gervais

he is underrated but they never said he was on his way out of the nba. not even the biggest haters

    • blueCypher

Ya, I didn’t come across anything that said he was on his way out of the NBA

    • GoodDayLA

please don’t make me comb through articles, twitter, and reddit online.

    • GoodDayLA

      not bad for a benchwarmer

    • Briiick

I have noticed that the media essentially follow the agenda of the FO.

    • CJSHYY

One of the articles did say he will play for China… just trash article tried to get the click. No need to care.

    • Dan Ang

Call the doctor, Jeremy’s game is ilLIN’

    • Alain Gervais

reddit, twitter, or articles which can be written by anyone don’t matter. in the actual league lin was no where close to out of the nba. the argument is starting pg or sixth man thats it. everything is don’t matter

    • Dan Ang

Jeremy Lamb smiles. A rare sighting.

    • GoodDayLA

Bradley Beal and Klay Thompson are the best shooting guards today to me. Harden is an old school Kobe iso shooting guard who plays more like a slow ball hogging 1 of today’s era.

Roddick is too small as a 2 and he’s a defensive liability.

Butler can’t shoot consistently (he reminds me of a big Kemba in their styles and athleticism).

    • Keith

Not sure why this guy, gooddayLA, is not banned .

    • Alain Gervais

      ill agree with this

sorry, I am the devil’s advocate of jlinportal.com

    • Alain Gervais

not by much i agree the media mistreated lin jut differ on the severity. i think FO has major input.

    • LAJane

He’s smiling all the time now. Makes me so happy. Should I worry about that? What the heck…sunshine makes me happy too. Light is a good thing πŸ™‚

    • CJSHYY

Ya! He wrote something in his tweet first then Lin’s fan response so he said he will post an article later… About an hour or so… the trash article was out… smh! Really no need to care what these bad writers said bc they just need the attention & click.

    • GoodDayLA

I actually think the media is lazy and does follow messages put out there by others like a FO. Charlotte seems to be slowly but surely trying to help Lin fix his image.

Clifford is very careful not to call Lin a starter or bench warmer. Jordan is helping. Oddly, now that I see what has since transpired, I am surprised Rich Cho issues the press release saying Lin was going to be a great bench role player. I think web attorney or someone smartly said that the press release was more to give comfort to teammates like Kemba and the agents for those players. And perhaps to not rock the front office itself who internally probably argued over Lin’s ability.

    • Dan Cohen

no there was biggest hater say he is a ch-k and also out of nba….. biggest hater are one who cannot accept a chinese guy to be better.
he proved those people wrong since he was in HS.. so no biggie for him as it doesn’t affect him because he knows he can sustain after playing in houston.

    • Alain Gervais

that was before mkg injury with takes presser off mug and his job. puts more on mkg if lin plays well

    • webattorney

A very few people might have said this, but generally speaking, even most critics had already accepted that Lin belongs in NBA.

    • Dan Cohen

I thought I was…but I disappeared for a while so i guess you help the devil advocateness continue on. good job.

    • LAJane

Yup. IMHO Clifford has really been excellent at managing potentially choppy waters. So very happy for a skillful coach!

    • Alain Gervais

2 year of 15 plus ppg. as far a popularity star its undeniable

    • Alain Gervais

      especially after houston

    • webattorney

It’s a perception but I think Lin will slowly but surely change the media’s perception in his favor.

    • pandaboy99

Im excited for Saturday as Lin will be coming back to MSG playing at even higher basketball level.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

      In Charlotte.

    • GoodDayLA

I knew Jlintellignece was so wrong about his fears. Oddly I was pretty certain this team was going to win and I knew putting in Lin at the 2 against Reddick was disaster for the Clippers. It’s like putting Ronda Rousey in against her opponent. There was nothing to fear for Lin and his buddies.

I’m still upset the media is trying to so tightly squeeze Lin into the overachiever benchwarmer persona they wish he would stay in. Even during Linsanity, ex players would say “he plays so hard” which is codespeak for “he’s not that talented/good”. Just remember anytime a player or commentator says “Lin plays so hard” it’s codespeak for I don’t think he’s very good.

The part that frustrates me is the media means it as a compliment! During the miami game, the local tv crew kept saying Lin was a great backup off the bench, like they were complimenting the guy.

I think that’s why so many of us post on here and watch his journey as he breaks down those barriers of false perception.

    • Dan Cohen

      hahahahahaahah

    • pandaboy99

    • LAJane

Hahaha…I’ve been beating myself up for not having a thicker skin after ALL THIS TIME against lazy so-called journalists and meme-blinded so-called commentators. Trolls and click-baiters are easy to walk-away from, but the media guys still fry me. But listening to this I feel better ’cause obviously I’m not the only one. If we’re really Lin fans, we have to do as he does and just STEP AWAY FROM THE DARK πŸ™‚

    • Arsenium12 .

Another brief set of Lin highlights …
      __________

    • GoodDayLA

wow really like that Cody to Lin play. Against bigger better wing defenders, they will swat from behind unless Lin gets the separation.

    • Alain Gervais

lins is like Naruto lol hear me out….. started with uncontrollable talent. it over took him at times. looked like it would over come him. but now lol in naruto shipped. he has controlled and honed its powers.

    • GoodDayLA

and on the last 3 to make 10 points, what in the world is Reddick doing? That’s some horrible defense on a guy who scored the first 7 points. He must have gotten yelled at by the coaches.

    • LAJane

If I remember from what little he was willing to say about it at the time, he was so totally miserable that he dove into that break to really let go and sweep doubt and worry completely away. God, family, friends…whatever…he truly seemed to come out of the desert. Since that time he has had a whole different depth of self acceptance and CONFIDENCE and it has enabled him to just quietly and joyously shine. And the tide has shifted in response.

    • just missing the πŸ™‚ smiley face *tongue-in-cheek*
otherwise Lin fans keep thinking you’re a hater lol

    • GoodDayLA

I hate the Lakers now, I really do. (note the irony) It’s tough being a Laker fan to hate them. But in their defense, I do know that Mitch Kupchak said Lin was just an expiring chip that came with a 1st round pick. He was pretty candid in that there would be no Linsanity. Byron’s insincerity really killed things for Lin fans.

    • Alain Gervais

      byron is a dinosar

    • GoodDayLA

Lin is currently very happy. It’s showing in his energy and his shot. He should start the season on fire. This Lin is also all jumpers right now and less drives. it’s an evolution.

Those drives through will come back in the playoffs. It will be necessary to pull them out then to win.

    • LAJane

True, but only temporarily. As Lin has said, it was a horrible time, but he truly appreciates the gold he mined out of it…and he did mine gold out of it.

    • Alain Gervais

the worst day are usually followed by the best lol

    • GoodDayLA

If Lin keeps playing at his current level (which I think he will), I’m not sure what they plan to do with him. He’s not a 20 year old rookie. They will need to feature him on and off the court and in their team branding and I’m not sure how that will affect the team.

    • Rick Johnson
    • Alain Gervais

he is undoubtedly in his prime. hasn’t peeked yet though

    • KHuang

It’s NOT AN EVOLUTION AT ALL.

It’s a coaching change, nothing more.

Lin played just like this in Summer League 2010. NO DIFFERENCE.

Lin hasn’t “improved” since 2010, as he came into the NBA with complete skills.

    • Rick Johnson
    • Alain Gervais

      that’s not true

    • steven ko

you’re going against BS’s quote of “I like Jeremy. I really do.”

    • Rick Johnson

Unless Knicks lose to undefeated Celtics before Saturday.

    • KHuang

      NO.

Redick played terrific defense, but “Lin” simply made a great offensive play.

You need to change your thinking that when Lin scores, an opponent “screwed up”.

This is the NBA where great players like Lin are “great” because they can overpower even the best defenses.

    • LAJane

      A dinosaur AND a liar-liar-pants-on-fire

    • GoodDayLA

The ego in Houston between Morey and Mchale is ridiculous. Lin hardly goes negative and the only time he’s ever been tempted is when he says he perhaps didn’t get a fair shake in Houston, which we know is true.

Houston really could have used both Harden and Lin and still carried out the agenda of showcasing Harden while Lin was treated as star B, which Lin seemed ok with (btw I still think Lin is better than Harden as a player to win games personally).

      Ridiculous is what it is.

I’m so glad we don’t have to watch Lin play like a headless chicken anymore scared that 1 mistake would bench him. I remember how that felt for him in Houston through the TV.

What we’re seeing now is truly the closest its been since NY. Clifford is right in what he promised.

    • KHuang

If it were not true, Linsanity would never have happened in the first place.

Sure Lin knows the league better, but his skillset has not changed one iota.

I’ve been saying that for the last 4 seasons.

    • GoodDayLA

Khuang, Roddick fell asleep. Tape don’t lie. Bad defender. Is Lin good? H*** yes! But Reddick was bad there. I think the good Clifford offense got Roddick thinking Lin would use a screen on the weak side and Lin perhaps did see that and ran the other way and Nic hit him in stride.

      Regardless Reddick fell asleep.

    • GoodDayLA

      and that is pure BS

    • steven ko

it was a horrible time to collect 15 million

    • KHuang

      WRONG.

On one of the plays, Reddick was where he should be. But then Griffin and Jordan miscommunicated and accidentally doubled Batum up high. Reddick was covering his side of the court, but then the miscommunication caused him to respond in a delayed fashion. Redick wasn’t wrong, Griffin and Jordan were. Then Lin hit that corner three.

On the other play, Lin hit a shot with Redick in his face on single coverage. If you haven’t noticed after 4 years of this, Lin has a tendency to consistently hit shots despite defenders draped all over him. That’s why opponents keep sending double and triple teams after Lin, because one single guy cannot stop him.

    • steven ko

Melo and undefeated can’t go together

    • KHuang

Naw, it’s NEVER a bad time to collect $15 million!!!

    • orLinaryjoe

I agree. He was very good before, now he can be great. Adjustments in in his dribble and shot. More calm and controlled. Better left. Raw talent being honed.

    • KHuang

      Not really.

    • KHuang

Because he has good basketball insights and is not flaming anybody.

    • KHuang

The adjustments have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Lin and EVERYTHING to do with Lin finally playing in a real modern day offense for the first time in his entire NBA career.

    • Alain Gervais

during insanity it was hyper. running at 100 percent. lin is much better to say he is not kind of says the training has not work which is wrong. his off ball skills are better. his off ball movement is better. his decision making is better. lin back in those day could not play better then this. h*** if this lin had dantoni he would be a lock for 20 ppg.

    • GoodDayLA

Lin’s athleticism has improved since 2010 though his vertical leap is dissipating with age and usage. But he is faster and stronger and a better athlete. However his talent was always there. This Lin is a better shooter but that is not why he is better, agreed.

His shot was solid already when NY happened. But his shot is even better now. HIs shot feels less streaky and the release is more consistent

    • wu kong

finally headed home to his own bed… anyone that has ever traveled for business will understand just how happy this will make JLin

    • orLinaryjoe

Think we’re saying the same thing. He never disappeared, but how can you say he has not improved? All his hard work is for maintenance. Don’t think so.

    • Alain Gervais

talent is always the same. clearly he is bigger and better in every way. lin has no dribbling issue. he can go left. he can shoot much better.

    • GoodDayLA

I agree your talent doesn’t improve much once you hit the NBA. You either always had it or you didn’t.

    • GoodDayLA

      i agree and understand you

    • steven ko

you mean headed home to his couch?

    • KHuang

During Linsanity, Lin was not playing for a true modern day offense like what he’s playing in today.

D’Antoni had a largely stationary offense with the point guard up high and the center setting screens and wings making cuts while the shooting guard was left in the corner.

That’s totally different from this modern day Charlotte offense which has 4 guys off the ball constantly moving to open spots.

All Lin is doing is comfortably taking advantage of those spots. That’s why he’s not had to make spectacular plays to win games.

    • CJSHYY

Ya! He’s bc they really play his game.

    • GoodDayLA

you got to ask yourself why only 5-7 teams play a modern offense at the NBA level.

    • Alain Gervais

thats not true. the offense is 35-40 percent the reason but 60-65 percent is his development.

    • Tommy

he’s alwasy been considered a capable starter/good back up
      get your facts right

    • KHuang

Actually, Lin’s not as quick and as springy as he was in 2010.

So Lin’s had to work hard at his game to compensate for his subtle athletic decline that began late last season.

    • wu kong

he said things got delivered just as they were leaving for CHina. so nope I mean bed…

    • KHuang

      Completely disagree again.

Look at Hansbrough. He was frozen out for his entire career, and yet now he’s the 2nd coming of Charles Barkley.

The modern offense is HUGELY IMPORTANT, more than most NBA fans or even front offices realize.

    • Tommy

his shooting got better handle got better too
hes a better player now than he was during Linsanity

    • Alain Gervais

lin was unscouted. it work for a short period of time. in dantoni system lin would average 15 ppg but it would not be efficient because he was getting scouted and had flaws. not in that system he would avrage 20 ppg and 8 on every team.

    • Alain Gervais

that lin could not play this way . he needed insanity which gave him the ball.

    • Rick Johnson

More crafty in his movements, more in control of pace, speed. In addition to better shooting.

    • orLinaryjoe

Just imagine Lin had to play host to the entire team, PR with China… must be exhausted, but alas happy!

    • KHuang

      There’s only ONE reason:

Players in today’s NBA are not fundamentally sound because they come into the NBA too young and early without having learned proper team skills in college.

Even of those teams, not a single one of them is truly capable of running a modern day NBA offense to its fullest capacity. That includes the champion Warriors and Spurs who have had their share of clueless early entry players.

Charlotte with Lin and the bench is the first NBA team I’ve seen that REALLY runs a modern day offense properly.

The Charlotte Hornets today do have early entry players, but they’ve got three key fundamentally sound guys in Hansbrough and Kaminsky and especially Lin. The team is building itself around the sound fundamentals those guys, even if on the court other players are starring.

    • GoodDayLA

actually i looked more closely and DJ playing air cause Reddick to hesitate and see if he needed to cover that side of the court. so I’ll cut Roddick some slack. But he shouldn’t have fell asleep on Lin either. At that level you are better off covering your own guy and not get burned

    • LAJane

Really enjoyed the last assist in the clip. Jordan is right in front of him swatting at the ball and Chris Paul just about has him in a bear hug from the back. Lin keeps the ball down low and muscling them off almost looks effortless as he lobs it over Jordan to Jefferson. Delicious.

    • KHuang

D’Antoni was a 0.3333 coach before Lin showed up.

He could not coach that NY team, and it’s not as if they didn’t have players either.

Lin came in and MADE D’Antoni’s system work for a while. But then the players mutineed and it was back to iso Melo especially once 80s retread coach and Clippers assistant Mike Woodson yanked the ball away from Lin.

      COACHING MATTERS.

    • Dan Cohen

i know he is not.. what I meant is when he is a star..media won’t even know it.
17/7 a star to you? because he can get that..
      so you need
20/10 to be star? cp3 and nash doesn’t even average that.. nash is 18 and 11

    • KHuang

If Lin had been the 2 guard on NY, he would’ve gotten the ball less because D’Antoni’s system sends the 2 guard to whichever corner is not on the ball.

    • orLinaryjoe

That is true. And of course this team play has everything to do with it.

    • Rick Johnson

      Excellent ball control.

    • Alain Gervais

ok ill make 1 last point. remember when lin played miami. it was terrible. he looked like a rookie. he couldn’t bring up the ball. that would never happen today

    • KHuang

      Completely disagree again.

Lin was a hot shooter during Linsanity, and he struggled with ballhandling only when he was left stranded by his NY teammates trying to freeze him out.

    • LAJane

Yup, and in the last assist in the clip above even two guys couldn’t stop him.

    • KHuang

I see no evidence of that.

If anything, Lin was far more crafty and creative and spectacular in Summer League 2010 than he is now.

Before it was Lin generating the deception. Now it’s the TEAM, which is a COACHING issue.

    • wandertheglobe

Less drives mean less wear and tear on the body. I like it.

    • KHuang

ALL players decline athletically over time.

Lin is not immune from this.

    • CJSHYY

I just notice that they didn’t call him Jeremy but his Chinese name instead for the play… Haha!

    • orLinaryjoe

That’s all you need to see! I’m good.

    • GoodDayLA

undoubtedly Lin got better. I think K is saying Lin would still be shining just as brightly without any improvements since Insanity. He might be right. But of course a better Lin is a better Lin.

    • GoodDayLA

I think Lin has been starring so far through 4 games πŸ™‚

    • KHuang

      SURE IT WOULD.

If Lin’s teammates decided to freeze him out like that today, Lin would get pounded like that today too.

NO player in the NBA can singlehandedly advance against a crushing defense like championship Miami’s that season.

Deron Williams, Steve Nash, Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, and a whole lotta other All Stars did just as badly as Lin that game – and those guys didn’t even have Lin’s Knick teammates freezing them out.

    • Alain Gervais

thats not my argument. put that lin in charlotte with kemba make him play the 2 he would not do well. defensively it would of been ugly. offensively he would of been in the corner. he needed insanity that gave him the ball and made him play with confidence.

    • Alain Gervais

ok lets agree to disagree. i say it won’t

    • KHuang

On a fast break situation that’s not a planned halfcourt set, defenders are often unable to make correct reads because that’s just how the game works.

When that happens, that’s not necessarily a “mistake”. It’s just an NBA offense making a great play.

    • Alain Gervais

he doesn’t have the minute on his legs for it to happen. maybe by 34. by then his game won’t relay on athleticism

    • I didn’t watch this game, but excellent summary! I think you’re right on about how the Clippers came out to try and draw blood, but Lin was there to stop them. I wonder if Lin wasn’t there in the starting lineup if this game may have looked a lot differently. For one, it may not have been a blow out, because momentum is pretty key in sports. If the Clippers went off to a big lead, the momentum would have been on the Clippers side. This is, yet, another argument for Lin starting. You generally want your best players out there against the other team’s best players for this very reason to not let things get out of control and have to fight from behind too often.

Also, great to know that Big Al and Batum played well with Lin, since those two are pretty key to the Hornets. I’ve been mainly concerned about Big Al being potentially lost int he shuffle now that the offense doesn’t just revolve around him.

You are also absolutely right that Lin is now one of the best combo guards in the league–especially now that he has a deadly jumper and doesn’t hesitate to shoot. If Lin starts, it’s only a matter of time that the rest of the NBA realizes this.

    • GoodDayLA

Hans borough needs to get his offense back. He’s getting there.

    • KHuang

But see, a GOOD COACH wouldn’t take a career point guard like Kemba Walker and have him making backdoor cuts and flex curls around screens.

In fact, that’s what your own Lakers did with Steve Nash when D’Antoni was coaching. Kobe Bryant played the 1 in D’Antoni’s system and Steve Nash was forced to camp out unsuccessfully in the corner as Nash tried to avoid crashing into his forwards who were also in the corners. It destroyed what little career Nash had left in him, and that’s D’Antoni with whom Nash won TWO MVPs with!

Coaching deployment is critical in the NBA. Lin has struggled the last few seasons because his coaches didn’t deploy him right, though not as badly as Nash did under D’Antoni’s Lakers. Now that Lin’s on a different team with a modern day coach, the SYSTEM is doing the work for Lin and that’s relieved a ton of pressure off him. That’s why Lin looks better despite having no difference in skillset since his rookie year.

    • Dan Cohen

I disagree you say he hasn’t ‘improved’. He did. His shooting improved
If you say he played the same style and vision since 2010, I would say that’s true.

    • wandertheglobe

Lin seems to be evolved to a different player. Less drives to the basket, more mid-range jumpers and 3 pointers. He used to dribble in the crowd and either pick up the ball or jump passes. Now he doesn’t pick up his dribble and he also uses his hip to fend off defenders while slowing down going through the crowd. I like this new JLin.

    • KHuang

I wrote before the season started that he’s never played with a real point guard in his entire NBA career and that this is the first season ever he’s actually having the ball passed to him.

After the initial shock of the first game where people actually passed to Hansbrough, he’s starting to regain the Charles Barkley form that terrorized the NBA in his 2nd year of Indiana.

    • KHuang

All players have a slow athletic decline if they’re trained up right.

Besides, Lin at 90% athleticism is still way better than 99% of the NBA at the guard position!

    • GoodDayLA

actually look at the last 3 points Lin made in Q3. What is hilarious is that Al Jefferson and Zeller started running away as if Lin made the shot that ended up bouncing in haha. Nic is the only one unconvinced & sees the bounce.

Lin is starting to really develop trust and confidence with this teammates. Absolutely hilarious. They start running away once Lin launches!

    • Alain Gervais

so put a percentage. what percentage is coach vs development

    • KHuang

      Disagree again.

Lin was a hot shooter in 2010 too.

Bad coaching has put Lin in poor shooting positions, but now that Lin’s with a great coach Lin’s getting back to 2010 form.

    • KHuang

As usual, I accept and respect your stance.

      Great posts.

    • Alain Gervais

      agree

    • KHuang

In my mind for Lin specifically, 95% coaching and 5% development.

And when I think of “development”, I’m only talking about Lin familiarizing himself with the NBA via scouting and experience. NOT an actual change in skillset.

Lin did all this stuff he’s doing in college. THERE’S NOTHING NEW.

    • GoodDayLA

he use to keep it in one hand low and not move the ball. Now he switched left to right and shifts his body to keep unpredictable and to keep eyes on him. It’s a subtle change but a big one.

    • GoodDayLA

he’s reminding me of Jeff Hornaceck with his sharp shooting style.

    • Dan Cohen

He wasn’t a good 3 point shooter..He develop those 3 pointers during that rise to the nba. So he improved right there. His drive , pnr and midrange skills was always there.

    • Alain Gervais

ok ill take that into account. but by your own words if coach is why lin is succeeding then lin would be stupid to leave charlotte

    • GoodDayLA

      he’s a star

    • KHuang

Lin had no trouble hitting 3 pointers in Portsmouth Predraft Camp or Dallas Summer League.

Also, remember that Lin wasn’t even a starter on that Summer League 2010. Rodrigue Beaubois and that other 6’5″ Dallas guard were the go to guys, not Lin.

      Once again, COACHING.

    • Tommy

      He couldnt go left
and he has more moves to create himself space to shoot now
he used to get to the rim a lot now he takes more miranges

    • GoodDayLA

      oh i thought I was a known commodity now on jlinportal.com πŸ™‚

    • KHuang

Well, Charlotte has to offer a proper contract amount if Lin declines his contract option next season.

    • Keith
    • Keith
    • Tommy

the ginger needs to hit the gym and start eating healthy

    • Alain Gervais

nice debate cant wait for the season. I’ve seen enough from the preseason lol

    • Dan Cohen

I know and agree coaching a big part of it.. but you can’t denied that he didn’t improve his 3 point shot especially the percentages.. they kept rising even through the bad coaches when plays wasn’t designed for him.

    • Lin’s confidence in his shooting, as well as his smooth shooting form is the biggest skill improvement he’s made in the off season. And THIS is what makes him very dangerous this season and I think this is what is going to make him a star in the league.

Hopefully, he has the opportunity to show that he’s a star and help the Hornets make it well into the playoffs. This is only going to happen if Lin starts, because if Lin starts, he’ll likely get 36+ minutes, whereas if Lin doesn’t start, he’ll likely get less than 28 minutes. Huge difference between starting and not starting both for Lin and for the Hornets, if you believe that more minutes for Lin = more win for Hornets.

    • Tommy

17/5 is a star to me and you have to be endorsed by your team to be a star
his best season so far is 14/6

    • Tommy

      LOL

    • KHuang

Totally untrue, those are MEDIA FABRICATIONS.

Lin had no trouble going left and finishing in Summer League 2010, let alone Linsanity. The video shows Lin burning people like John Wall off the left.

The midrange space is the COACHING, not Lin. That’s what happens when you put Lin into a motion system with players not standing around.

    • KHuang

Yes, this is what Lin looks like when he has a modern day coach utilizing him properly.

I’m so tired of hater coaches using their offenses to freeze Lin out since his rookie year.

No matter what garbage Lin was going through with his steady diet of outdated 80s coaches, the way Lin’s playing now is exactly what I saw Lin doing when I first scouted him in Summer 2010 off that UCONN youtube video and jumped up and shouted with no one around “Holy s—, that’s a NBA player!”

    • LAJane

Great moment…and who knew what a wild ride it would take you on!

    • KHuang

Actually, Hornacek was what I call a “bump and grind” player.

Hornacek would draw body contact to push the defender off balance, then he’d go up.

Lin’s just like another 80s star: Michael Ray Richardson. Both of them had the flat footed wide stance side shooting style, as well as identical driving moves.

Lin and Sugar are THE SAME PLAYER, only Lin’s better because Lin wasn’t a druggie like Sugar.

    • Briiick

The @hornets plane is taking off…to the playoff and higher…

    • KHuang

      Huh?

Lin’s been doing this unpredictable stuff since GOLDEN STATE ROOKIE!

Go back and watch his video. Lin being sandwiched defensively has been taking place for the last 5 seasons!

    • KHuang

Nothing special by spectacular Lin standards.

He passed like this every game for the last 5 seasons.

    • CaliUSMC

      NICE!

    • CaliUSMC

I want to see Lin rocking some space jam 11’s in the season opener.

    • CaliUSMC

      source pls

    • GoodDayLA

he used to prefer getting low using the off hand to shield with the hesitation with a static low dribble. Yesterday you saw him change up the dribble a bit, change hands, shift his body, and make it harder to be predictable through movement.

whether or not its training, I do not know. but its an improvement.

    • GoodDayLA

i defer to you on this.

    • CaliUSMC

I’m currently looking at the box score, but doesn’t show mins played for each player. Anyone know how many Lin had?

    • Alain Gervais

      16 minutes

    • CaliUSMC

      What’s his ppg?

    • takemeback2reaganyears

Lin runs and speeds a lot, I’d prefer him to play 30 to 32 min max per game. This is still a long season.

    • Alain Gervais
    • GoodDayLA

well starting is the only way to star in the NBA. it’s the only way to get noticed in the NBA. You have to be at a minimum a starter.

But that doesn’t mean you matter to the team. It’s just social acceptance and admiration.

I’m ok with Lin coming off the bench if Clifford lets him close games and take all the last shots.

But usually that requires being a starter.

    • CaliUSMC

I just dropped $250 for the 10/30 game vs the hawks! Should be a good one xD

    • Sundown

Isn’t that the actor from FOB? If so, that body shape is probably giving him the role.

    • CaliUSMC

      thks

    • I think this season, you’ll see Lin shooting more and driving less. So 36+ minutes is no problem. That’s normally how many minutes starts get. Besides, Lin is inn great condition, so playing 36+ even if he’s driving a lot is not going to be a problem for Lin.

    • wu kong
    • blueCypher

      haha , good one

    • heart

Excellent article by the way. Agree w/ you Lin is a starter caliber. Lin is on the verge of breaking out Linsanity 2.0. Everything else seems to be falling into place: supportive coach, unselfish teammates, even fair Hornets media, excited fan base, etc. What’s left is that Lin and Lin fans are waiting for opportunity and timing.

    • CJSHYY

      Really funny. LOL!

    • It’s true that plenty of star players don’t help teams win (i.e., Carmelo Anthony), but Lin is a star player that actually helps a team win. So the more Lin is on the floor the more effective the Hornets will be, thus if Lin starts the Hornets have a better chance of winning games vs. if Lin is coming off the bench.

    • blubell

I really enjoy the fact that the team is constantly praising each other’s characters and not only their abilities on court. They seem to have really good chemistry. I don’t think we had this before.

    • David Kim

trip to overseas together helps to have better chemistry too.

    • LAJane

Well yes and no…in this case one of your teammates is a rock-star “Beatle” in that country , speaks a language you don’t and because of that is often the spokesman for the foreign press. Could have been a real jealousy stew, but instead it was a great dish. Great, great teammates.

    • blubell

Yeah, he mentioned that he had fun showing them his culture.

    • blubell

Enjoy the ball movement and teamwork.

    • Dorothy

mmmm, not necessarily, Rox played in Asia with Lin, just saying.

    • David Kim

not always but they looked enjoying this trip a lot.

    • LAJane

Well I agree with you on the passing, and probably on the getting out of double teams too. Maybe it’s just that y’all have educated me and I see things better, but what I liked even more than the pass was seeing just how beautifully he handled that double-team sandwich. I’ll say it again. Delicious.

    • KHuang

Lin was hitting these exact some shots since 2010 at similar percentages the few times he was used right.

    • Dorothy

I believe oversea + no big egos form the strong chemistry

    • Bulls-Eye!
Kemba said teammates have been impressed watching how JLin carried himself with all the media and attention. We know Jeremy would always tried his hardest not to exclude teammates so I’m sure they appreciated that.

This is an underrated ability of Lin’s strength to build a strong team chemistry: his humility

I’m sure he got A++ in his Social Skill class :]

    • KHuang

Al Jefferson, Kemba Walker, and Nicolas Batum have done an awesome job of bringing the team together off the court.

Jeremy Lin has done a great job of bringing the team together ON the court!

    • KHuang

The Hawks are likely going to be the toughest Eastern Conference team that Lin’s Hornets will face all season.

    • haha.. down goes Hugo :]

    • blubell

It was second year with the Rox and they were using Jeremy’s popularity. They had an agenda. But I don’t see it with this team… yet.

    • yes, that would be a super interesting test.
Who’s gonna be the Spurs of the East?

    • David Kim

After the preseason game, whats your best starting line up?

i think Kemba, Lin, Batum, Zeller, and Jefferson is the best starting line up.

    • blubell

Poor Hugo but kinda deserved it. Lol.

    • Dorothy

KHuang, do you think Hornets can beat LeBron’s CAV?

    • I’m sure you do but it’s always nice to get higher approval rating in case of any future election in jlinportal.com LOL

    • his sting is no more πŸ™‚

    • KHuang

I wasn’t even originally interested in Lin!

I was following St Mary center Omar Samhan who I felt was going to be an outstanding NBA center if he could get his weight down.

Samhan had a Summer League teammates named “Lin” who the media was touting as a “short 6’2″ unathletic Harvard point guard”.

I casually flipped on youtube, expecting to see a frail slow conservative pass first player”.

Then I saw Lin running up and down the court overpowering future draft picks and showing astonishing court awareness that even NBA players could not do. I knew right there that the kid would make it.

Lin shocked me like I’ve NEVER been shocked.

    • KHuang

      Lin, Lamb, Williams, Hansbrough, Kaminsky.

I said that before the season and I believe it more than ever.

    • KHuang

      Yes, EASILY.

And I’m talking about the Cavs at full strength with no injuries.

    • KHuang

Given that the Spurs are no longer powerful in my opinion due to the Aldridge signing and particularly Tim Duncan declining, I’d call Atlanta the Spurs of the East.

    • David Kim

Even Clippers enjoyed the trip to overseas but may be not the games. LOL

Still, as poorly as his team played, Rivers said the China trip was positive from a bonding standpoint.

“Our guys have been going out to different restaurants together and just enjoying each other,” he said. “The one thing about going abroad for all teams, Charlotte as well, is I think it allows you to team-build sooner than if you were at home. So mission accomplished.”

    • LAJane

nice try, but not really a save

    • blubell

Didn’t he say he didn’t want to go to China and disrespected Shenzen by staying in Hong Kong?

    • David Kim

      really? LOL

    • LAJane

I can’t stop laughing at this πŸ˜€ Some pretty funny comments in the scroll too. This comment no longer applies, but fans are not fully up to speed yet: about the garbage bin as it is rolled away “And the Hornets miss yet another open basket” They are in for a MUCH happier year!

LOL…well again, yes and no. This is the kid who banged his head on the wall when he didn’t get his way until Mama Lin cut that off by finally slamming it for him. Also the high school kid who was so arrogant and uncooperative that it took being benched by a broken ankle to get him to consider changing his tune. And the same college student who apparently was gf-clueless enough that Mama Lin had to advise him to “treat girls like they were flowers.” So it seems that his now-amazing humility and sensitivity are the successful product of hard knocks, guidance, and effort. Triumph…as usual πŸ™‚

Random meaningless questions for the experts on this board (which means every single person posting here):

      1) Could the best basketball team of all time in the 1992 Dream Team have beaten today’s Clippers by a bigger margin?

      2) What would Tyler Hansbrough’s season averages in points and rebounds be if he was a starter averaging between 25-30 mpg? My guess: 17 ppg, 12 rpg (similar to his Indiana Pacer starter numbers). And of course Psycho T would lead the NBA in BASHINGS!

      3) Does this team need to make any trades? A day ago I felt yes, now I do not. Lin with the starters looks super strong, and to my own shock Brian Roberts leading that powerful bench looks better than Stephen Curry does!

    • LAJane

Don’t put my retirement fund in jeopardy!!!

    • steven ko

if they blowout too many good teams, a hit will be ordered on Lin

    • takemeback2reaganyears

I still think 36 per game for Lin is still too much. They need him in playoff “healthy”. But it will comes to that point if they can’t win without him.

    • steven ko

      you mean Seth Curry right?

    • takemeback2reaganyears

      hahaha

    • If that happens, Hornets Big Men better be ready to stand up to protect JLin.

I think it would depend on teams faced and match-ups.
A successful hornets team will be creative, flexible and effectively unpredictable

    • joking aside, I think the 32-35min as a starting SG/dual PG play-making role would be enough.

JLin just needs to be the catalyst to start team-play strong like he did in the beginning of Q1 and Q3 to set the tone then finish Q4 strong. Coach Clifford probably doesn’t want to be heavily reliant on JLin to be on the floor at all times to keep him fresh.

As George Karl once said JLin is the motor of the team. JLin needs to get his teammates going to establish rhythm to keep the ball moving then it will be cruise-control throughout the game.

Hey, if Knicks win against Boston on Friday, it’ll be a battle between 2 undefeated 4-0 teams.

    • Steppen03

Hey, Andy! It’s the opposite of your expectation – Hornets overpower the Clipps! Agree. Plus, Lin needs to be treated the right way – intro as a STARTER (even bench is just as good as starters on this team). But I think the best lineup was shown last night. Kam is still raw, Lamb is unpredictable, T-Hans can’t finish good. But I still like Lin to run some with the 2nd. With these Wins under their belt, The Hornets can copy and duplicate their success now. Grabbing Top 4 EC is not the high, it is Top 2. Great teams will challenge them and they will continue to improve to be even more better.

    • zxcvb

      Lin, Lamb, Batum, Zeller, Hawes.

      1. Heck to the Yeah
      2. 12/8 more like it
      3. To be determined (let’s revisit mid season)

    • GoodDayLA

NBA preseason means nothing. But it’s usually a sign the team could be good in the regular season. Oftentimes preseason is not an indication of regular season performance. For the Hnets I think it is, but not for Knicks.

    • GoodDayLA

      1. Yes

      2. 16 & 10.

      3. Yes, but it’s unclear what they need so later down the line.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

      How about bee colony?

    • zxcvb

Elite showing by Lin in front of MJ, those jumpers were beautiful. Kemba and Lin had no problem coexisting (I was wrong!), but Lin did pick up some ticky-tack fouls at SG (I was right!).

I feel bad for the fans who came to watch Lin play more, but it was the right move to let Lin rest. He’s played more than any other Hornet this preseason and it was a ludicrous, historic blowout. It would be dangerous (injury) and unsportsmanlike (rubbing it in) to play Lin in the 4Q.

I still don’t like Big Al on this new look team. He got too many shots and prevented Lin and the starters from destroying Paul and the Clips even more. I don’t think anyone wants to trade for him right now, but if something comes up, Charlotte should pull the trigger.

    • GoodDayLA

I agree. Though perhaps Al should still start instead of Hawes.

    • GoodDayLA

      Kam is not ready

    • GoodDayLA

I disagree. The top 2 teams in the East will be Toronto and the Cavs. Hawks are top 4 of course but Cavs and Toronto will be tougher.

    • GoodDayLA

there is too much Lebron ref cheating for the wins to come easy.

    • CJSHYY

Since Lin didn’t play a lot so maybe that’s why Al got lots of shots?

    • zxcvb

They were feeding him a lot early on, too. They were definitely trying to “get him going” since he hasn’t had a great preseason so far. But every time he got the ball in the low post, the entire offense just stopped and watched him…ball didn’t come back out.

    • CJSHYY

I know. But last season, he’s #2 for O so they probably still will do that this season.

    • zxcvb

Not if Clifford wants to keep his job. They’ll start out giving Al his touches, but I think they’ll go away from him pretty quickly. Clifford already said he’s not relying on Al as much as before.

I’m guessing the plan is to trade him at the deadline. He’s an expiring and some team with an injured C may want to give him a look.

    • John Lee

Didn’t they going to sign Damien Wilkins?

    • CJSHYY

Clifford said Batum is #1 & Lin is #2 for O before… hope it will really like this.

    • zxcvb

I was baffled by the Batum remark (I think that’s just PR to make him stay). On this team, Lin is the only one who’s shown the ability to score big on efficient %s. But we all know he prefers to be a playmaker. In time, I think Kaminsky could be a #1 offensive option, but he’s not physically ready yet.

I think it’ll be a pretty balanced offense like the Hawks. Kemba, Lin, Batum, Jefferson could all average 14-17pts. And if/when Big Al gets traded, Zeller will get more shots.

    • Linzen

      1. Most certainly!
      2. 16 & 10
      3. IMO the thinnest position is SF. We have only Hairston after Batum. And, I don’t think we can slide Lamb, Daniel or Harrison over. But who can/should we trade for (or just sign)?

    • KHuang

Nah, it’s good to have the NBA’s best low post scorer in Al Jefferson.

With him in there, the team doesn’t have to fear the vaunted Clippers max contract shotblockers.

Jefferson is a huge part of the Hornets and needs to be included in the offense.

    • zxcvb

      1) Yes, but so could the Lin-led starters if they played more!

      2) 10p/10r. I don’t think he’d get a lot of shots next to Zeller/Jefferson/Hawes.

      3) Yes, if they want to be this year’s Hawks.

Big Al doesn’t fit this new modern offense and Zeller, Hawes, Kaminsky and Hansbrough would all get more minutes if he were traded. Dallas is going after everyone and everything — maybe they’d take a flyer on Jefferson (expiring)? It’s Dirk’s last season so they don’t want to tank.

    • KHuang

It all depends on the flow of the game.

With this Hornets team, anybody can be the star on any given day based on what the defense allows.

    • KHuang

Well, it’s clear that Lin is #1 AND #2.

That’s because Lin makes the best decisions for the TEAM to succeed!

    • wandertheglobe

Steve Balmer the Harvard guy got the front row seat to witness what could have been if they had signed Lin this summer.

    • KHuang

Knicks are no match for this Charlotte team.

The Knicks padded their wins against lowly PHI and an international team.

    • zxcvb

They called Lin I heard, but Lin’s role would have been way smaller.

    • KHuang

C’mon, THIS PRESEASON Roberts and his team have outperformed Curry and the Warriors.

It’s not hyperbole, it’s hard statistical fact.

Am I saying Roberts is a better career player than Curry? Of course not. I am ONLY talking about THIS preseason.

    • zxcvb

I don’t know about that. They didn’t have to fear DJ and Co. because they shot (and hit) so many open 3s. 14-25 with ten (!!!) different players making them. Even Psycho T hit one!

    • KHuang

      Deal done.

But Curry actually wouldn’t outproduce Roberts this preseason for the Hornets.

    • KHuang

      Hey, wealth is wonderful.

    • zxcvb

I still believe Al can play. I just think it’d be better to give his minutes and touches to Zeller, Kaminsky Hawes and Hansbrough.

    • wandertheglobe

Yeah, with Paul, JJ and the coach’s son, Austin. Lin probably will be a 3rd string PG. Not a good situation for Lin. But imagine if Lin was the lead PG for the Clips, throw lobs to DJ and Griffin.

    • CJSHYY

So far from the preseason looks like he’s #1 to me.

    • KHuang

Perhaps, but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

    • KHuang

      And a good thing it didn’t –

that’s why the Hornets won by 42!

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Read it somewhere in the last few days that Al would like to retire with Hornets in mind.

    • KHuang

Had Kaminsky been drafted by another team, he well may be a 1st option.

I don’t buy that he lacks physicality.

The only reason he doesn’t play much is because the other big men are playing too well.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Somehow I doubt Al will be traded or like to sign with other team from what I read in the past couple weeks.

    • CJSHYY

Ya! He said that but I doubt Hornets will keep him after this season.

    • KHuang

There come times in the NBA where you need a massive brute force player underneath to provide a physical presence on both ends of the court.

Jefferson is such a player, and that comes in handy against teams like Memphis with the Bruise Brothers in Gasol and Randolph.

    • grover chang

Yes. Keep Al. Why take away an option. Very few players could do what Al does as well. Eg. Howard

    • heart

Just want to note: Chris Paul had 5 turnovers today. Lin contained Redick to 2/7 FGM and 1/4 3PM.
Lin did his job as SG starter today. Lin played well and team ball won.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Let’s wait and see. I like him thus far. He is adapting his games unlike some bigs/centers that I’ve watched in the past 2-3 seasons. I like all the unselfishness of the Hornets thus far. I really don’t want any player comes in and rock the boat i.e, JH in Rox and BS in Lakers. Definitely I’m suffering from PTSD:-)

    • grover chang

Great. Because lin beat them while still a laker. His new team is way better

      Hmmm.

When Lin made 5 turnovers last season against champion Golden State (a game where MVP Curry had SEVEN turnovers), Lin made NATIONAL NEWS as journalists criticized Lin’s game relentlessly.

I GIT how this works with the Asian guy and the American media.

    • grover chang

For clips I think as reddick goes so does the clippers

They seem deep enough that trade is not required. A trade may have a negative effect on team culture

    • JLin Fan from Australia
    • steven ko

Exactly my thinking. Lin would be crucified if he had 5 TOs

    • I do see value of Al Jefferson in the playoff especially against big bodies like MEM (Finals matchup but yeah there’s small % chance lol)

When things slow down, Jefferson would be helpful. As long as he’s nimble, he can learn to keep up with others in PnR. I really like how he’s committed to retire with the team & pay for team dinner. Big vet presence should help the locker room

    • spiderman

Would also be crucified if he went 2/7

    • Steppen03

Coach Clifford is real coach who can recognize talents when he sees them. “What don’t kill you will make you stronger.” Not credits to NY, Hou, or LA – they truly almost destroy Lin’s career. But Lin is stronger than all of them personnel. Pray Lin and the Hornets get them Rings before the Rox.

    • your son’s voltaire

      then i’m calling MIP

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Who could have guessed this is a complete blown out?
Clippers tried everything including flagrant fouls.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Clifford didn’t want to play Lin that much because it’s already a blown out. 42 points over one of the elite teams in Western Conference.
You can’t convince nobody that the Clippers don’t care and they want to lose like this.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Big Al had troubles in playing this game until his coach and teammates bailed him out.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Hornets’ wins come from good teams.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

The Hornets dominated the game and the Clippers trailed most parts of the game.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Delfino would be the toughest of them all.

    • spiderman

      Blow-out indeed.
Clippers effort was there. Wouldn’t play Paul when injured if they didn’t want to win (or at least compete).

    • Kwok Wai Lai

The contract was signed but not guaranteed.

    • jakey

Cheers to that! I hope we are both right

    • Kwok Wai Lai

There is no point for Clifford to play Lin any more than he had to. First Q, Lin completely dominated the game at the beginning. Then before they know it, they blew the Clippers away. I’ll bench Lin to save him for other games and give Jeremy Lamb the work out he needs; Lamb is far from being ready to play in the regular season.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Lots of flopping from Lance.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Kemba, Lin, Batum, Zeller, Hawes.

    • I KNOW. And I’m so happy that I was completely wrong. If you want to read my reaction to the game, here’s what I wrote: http://www.jeremylintel.com/2015/10/14/hornets-destroy-clippers-113-71-in-jeremy-lins-debut-as-a-starter-for-hornets-in-preseason/

    • Kwok Wai Lai

The best team is still Lin-Kemba-Batum-Zeller-Hawes because they can all get back indefense. Big Al is a step slower.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Do you think the Clippers want to lose by 42 points?

      It does matter.
The Clippers are exposed and they have tried their best in preseason context.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

The one reason that Lin was allowed to play only17 minutes because Coach Clifford don’t want to win over 70 points.

    • grover chang

Listen to nba radio. Host says clippers unlucky in loss. Can’t say hornets won the game but say clippers lost the game.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      The Hornets scored 14 3Ps @ 56% = 42 points.
This turns out to be the winning margin for the Hornets.

    • TTNN

LOL, mind trick here, you used the made shot and applied that 56% again……. make no sense, and yet somehow you got 42 points, and that makes a lot of sense……..

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Holy Moss by 42 points.
You don’t mean to tell me that the Clippers lost on purpose by 42 points; that’s total disgrace to the team.
They came out with fire and tried to win this game but the Hornets simply stopped. The Clippers scored only 70 points and that tells you how good the defense of the Hornets are playing.
Ever hear that an elite team managed to loss by over 40 points. The Clippers came out trying to win the game but they simply outmatched.

    • TTNN

if you listen to the Clipper’s radio, they are pretty honest, they were saying Clippers are not well prepared, and they thought they could finish the business with CP3 playing, and they were wrong. haha

    • Dan Cohen

so reminds me of lin.. can’t give credit to him when it’s really due.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

…So if the Hornets made 10, they would only won by 30? LOL

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      3 * 14 = 42

    • LAJane

I noticed that. It was pretty funny…and then at the very end they sorta squeezed in that..um…well they lost to the Hornets after all.

    • Jedi

I agree with 32-35 mins. It will give Jeremy many more chances to Triple Dub, and cement his status as a legit star.

    • FrankW

You have a keen observation! Cool.

    • yes, Clifford did the right thing not to play Lin too much in this game. It helped the team to be more cohesive. It felt more like a team effort but everyone knew Lin set the tone with 10 straight points & a huge 3pt to start Q1 & Q3.

I like how Clifford is running experiments in preseason, it’s designed to test multiple lineups to be ready for regular season. Last year with the Lakers was more like running track & finding different lineups to tank w/o getting too obvious.

    • That’s a perfect irony considering the latest Grantland article about the Hornets shooting too many midrange Js last season.

The newly redesiged Hornets is clicking very well with lots of 3s.

    • golfhacker

You’re just pointing out a coincidence, not a correlation, right?

    • Rick Johnson
    • Briiick

CP3 didn’t make much difference in the playoff last season. If there was any, his team lost a bit more with him playing.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

    • FrankW

LOL! Lin took an early dump (with assists from Batum, Walker and Zelleron) on the Clippers for which there is no recovery, CP3 or no CP3.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

The run actually started at the 3rd quarter, the Hornets led by only 8 points coming in against the first team of the Clippers.

Then Jeremy checked out with 4:35 minutes left in the Qtr but the lead had already exploded to 16 points right after 2 assists; one by Jeremy to Jefferson and then the other from Jefferson to Batum. In that 7:25 minutes stretch, the Clippers only scored two buckets; CP3’s assist to Blake Griffin and CP3’s assist to Crawford’s 3 pointer.

Then Big Al and Cody Zeller checked out with 4:15 minutes left in the Qtr. the lead was 18 points.

Then Kemba Walker and Batum checked out with 3:34 minutes left, the lead was still 18 points.

The defense of the Hornets held the Clippers within 8 points for the Qtr. This is a mighty good achievement! I assume that the best player, Jeremy Lin, retired first.

By the way, CP3 left the Qtr with 2:59 minutes left after all the starters of the Hornets left the court.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Of course! It’s interesting. The defense of the Hornets won the game for them. The Clippers were held to 70 points for the game, 8 points in the third Qtr.

    • Dan Ang

For perspective, it IS the preseason. The media is not in mid season form yet.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Those silly sport writers are eating their words, scratching their heads and wondering how the h*** the Hornets could be so good.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

    • Kwok Wai Lai

    • blubell
    • takemeback2reaganyears

somewhere like 13 mil? Lol. MJ took him because of his expired contract. Don’t guess me wrong, I like Batum.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

      Name an opposing “2”-guard please.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

KHuang is driven to the 1.2% now.

    • Alain Gervais

      why ask that.

    • John Lee

They both add a lot to the team, but Lin at 2M definitely the bigger bang for the buck, hands down.

    • John Lee

Lin excels at both, but his PG game is more fun to watch since his style is very Nash-like.

    • CJSHYY

Haha! I really think Lin’s fans should stop to ask the question like this bc Lin said it himself (go to check his FB) He has no intention to replace Kemba. I really think this is just one year deal for him & Hornets.

    • FrankW

Clippers led by a maximum of two points but Jeremy Lin draw first blood by coming out early blazing with both guns and then the rest of the Hornets team took over and Clippers never led again after the five minute mark into the first quarter. Did anyone expect a blowout of a two billion dollar franchise with multiple stars, twice in a row?

    • blubell
    • Alain Gervais

they like drama in lins life ..

    • John Lee

Especially the EPSN so-called “experts”. Experts at boxscore watching, at best.

    • John Lee

Yeah, because that would require acknowledgement that Lin’s great D locked down Redick. And that’s a big taboo!

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Lamb is even further away from being ready.

    • CJSHYY

I understand they want Lin to settle down in a team but … I guess Lin maybe will back to Lakers bc since when you saw Lin wrote the letters to reporters? He did that to LA media. I also think he picked Hornets not just wants to play his game but also wants to out of tanking Lakers & Kobe, BS.

    • Rick Johnson
    • Kwok Wai Lai

      This is virtually like saying.
Forgive me, I blew it. My bad.

    • Alain Gervais

idk no more jumping from teams. if it works here stay. if lin plays will at the 2 why and they start him stay here. but one day at a time for now

    • wandertheglobe

One reporter asked Jefferson after the Shanghai game. Why didn’t you say Jeremy name in Chinese in the video. Jefferson looks confused and said he didn’t remember the video.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

The CBS writers like Ken Berger too.

    • CJSHYY

Lin wants to be a starting PG so …..

    • Alain Gervais

dragic play 2nd guard so why not lin. most modern teams want 2 pg or ball handler which every team he goes to

    • sport

PG or SG doesn’t matter so long as Lin get his minutes and play his style of basketball. It’s not like he won’t get to play PG when Kemba’s resting. I see him staying with Hornets if they give him max deal after this season. We all know how difficult it is for Lin to find a coach who treats him fairly and understands his game with no hidden agenda.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Eric Bledsoe could have 10 TOs in a game and nobody even care.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Agreed. Same to fans who don’t watch games.

    • CJSHYY

Will see I guess that’s part of the reason why coach wants him to be Starting SG. This can be one of the reasons to ask him stays…

    • Kwok Wai Lai

What’s wrong with being the ScoringGuard?

    • CJSHYY

Totally agree. I hope they can let him lead 2nd unit…

Not really a duel when one team blows out the other by 42pts πŸ™‚

    • Alain Gervais
    • sport

I actually like Lin as a true SG on this Hornets team. Now he can focus more on scoring instead of worrying about getting his teammates to score and passing too much. Meanwhile he still gets to play PG when Kemba’s out.

    • CJSHYY

He needs to worry about his job bc Lakers so far still can’t win any NBA team for preseason. Plus Last night’s game, they didn’t use Kobe as AD but that three pick players.

    • james brown

whAT improvement of personnel he’s talking about..additional shooting coach i guess???LOL….changing principle of a principled person he call himself, what an a******!

    • spiderman

      Mark Medina still delusional

    • Jedi

Well he has been deservedly widely mocked for his comments last year, so this year he’s trying to salvage whatever self esteem he has left.

    • BobbyH

That’s because there is no Lin to shoot 3Ps that BS doesn’t need to worry about winning by accident. That’s called improved personnel as they can shoot that many and still has the tank target.

    • Mr Chuckles

Who is this person? Doesn’t seem like an LOF. Ha ha.

    • blueCypher

I am impressed with Lin’s ball-handling and shooting so far. It looks like his hard work during the offseason is translating in games. Those sessions with the professor paying off

    • Rick Johnson

Wow, didn’t realize this shot was after a behind the back crossover:

    • joyce ward

As a lin fan who has watched him being screwed by three NBA teams, I am happy that he finally has found a home where he can play his game. I think what lin has gone through in the past three years has made him a Lebrons type player. I think understands that there are probably a few players in the league with his skill set. Also, I think Kemba likes lin and he knows that lin is not trying to take the spotlight from him. I think the other players on the team respect lin’s skill set. Also, I think how Clifford is managing players in the preseason is how he will do it in the regular season because he is trying to prevent injury. I think Clifford wants to keep teams off balance so that they can’t scout the players. Clifford has some major talent on this team and they are getting better everyday.

    • Yascar

      http://queencityhoops.com/blog/hornets-complete-global-games-in-113-71-waxing-of-clippers/

Nice article from a Charlotte blogger giving Lin lots of props.

    • Rick Johnson

With talent depth, system that allows different players to plug into a system, and management and distribution of minutes GSW had been able to remain healthy. Perhaps Hornets trying to do the same.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

They pay Redick $7m for the season.

    • GoodDayLA

i agree particularly with your end points about keeping other teams off balance except I think you made a typo where you said many players in the league have Lin’s skill set.

    • GoodDayLA

      lol

    • joyce ward

Exactly. I think Clifford is a super intelligent coach who knew what kind of team he wanted and now it’s coming together .Hornets have some players with high bball IQ

    • TTNN

they can’t even win a summer league team…..

    • grover chang

“savvy Southern gentleman.” Nice description. I get the feeling that Al Jefferson is a gentleman in interviews.

I changed it to few players:)

    • TTNN

      of course, they have Young/Lou Williams/Kobe, all 3pts chuckers……

    • GoodDayLA

Kobe will be “out” when Lin comes to town. GUARANTEED. We all know it. Kobe knows Lin will embarrass him if they go head to head at the 2.

    • grover chang

Yes, stay!! My wife is starting to giving me the stink eye. Every year I’m asking her to buy me a new team jersey for my birthday. Last time it was “What, he moved again? Doesn’t anyone want him?” I said yes, “the hornets!” Lin better not make me look stupid and move to another team and have me asking for another jersey.

    • GoodDayLA

      I can name many.

    • Rick Johnson

The few videos I’ve seen of Al he seems like a gentle giant.

    • TTNN

I honestly don’t think that’s necessary a Lin fan ask this question, I’d think CLT fans are more curious about this than Lin fans.

    • GoodDayLA

no it’s a long term deal in Charlotte. He’ll be a Hornet as long as Clifford is coaching.

Your confidence in the NBA is misplaced. Even if Lin wins the NBA title as a 6th man, he will find Free Agency is again slim pickings.

At best other teams will ask him to be a bench warmer for 6-8 million a year.

    • GoodDayLA

only a Lin fan would ask that question.

    • blueCypher

This has to be the year, where we see Lin unleashed. Looks promising indeed πŸ™‚

Totally caught with their pants down. After the Lakers fiasco they totally underrated Lin, even after Hornets’ first win. From now on they will show respect.

    • TTNN

well, I actually has less problem with this. Batum is the key to the change of the offensive style

    • GoodDayLA

ME. OK blowout maybe not. But I expected an easy victory.

    • real-dsb

OR… Kaminsky is a member of Lin Garden! =)

    • CJSHYY

Ya! Bc Shanghai is bigger stage plus CCTV broadcast this game. It’s about 34M people watched this game. CP3 wants to shine but …. LOL!

    • GoodDayLA

Tyler and AL will bruise people.

    • TTNN

Not really, this guy cares less than Feigen, and he rant way more than Feigen, not necessary only say things the team want to hear though.

Also he is pretty lazy, not as dedicated as Feigen, but he is not bad when he do his job, he just sometimes don’t really do his job. Like he would go to a football game instead of Hornets preseason game, skip practice and report at home, much slower than what you would expect from a beat writer, etc.

    • GoodDayLA

he’s overthinking the game. Instead of taking Lin’s wide open 3’s he’s trying to drive and do spin moves and brick layups in traffic.

    • GoodDayLA

not that but you can see how they play too. It’s legit. I haven’t yet watch Knicks but I doubt any Melo team is legit.

    • blueCypher

Can someone link a stream to the full game.

    • Love Lin

Tell ur wife 2 hv u a bigger closet n more bucks.. lol

    • TTNN
    • your son’s voltaire

u could never look stupid in Lin jersey

    • real-dsb

      most likely wax or pomade

    • Acbc

      Only you would say that!

    • GoodDayLA

      screw any Lakers related stuff

    • Love Lin

Really wanna see his awkward face when Lin embarrasses him on the court.. πŸ™‚

    • CP3 is very crafty. Over-and-over again the 2-man game with Blake setting the screen paid off for the Clippers.
Kemba got beaten 3 times, Jeremy also lost sight of Crawford and can’t recover after Blake set up the screen.

In the regular season, the defensive assignment would need to be more crisp with a big who knows how to cover Blake but it will come with time to be able to switch quickly.

I think JLin knows how to guard CP3 more than Kemba by not staying too close to get beaten off-the-dribble or too far that CP3 can drain midrange jumper. But CP3 is still an elite PG with excellent midrange game.

    • John Lee

      Lady’s got a point, buddy!

The Lakers don’t deserve to make a single dime off you, the way they treated our boy. Which is why I’m holding off until the end of preseason. I gotta make my money count, as my girls’ HK preschool tuition is astronomical!

    • real-dsb

MJ should buy out Lin’s Adidas contract and sign him to Jordan brand.

    • Keith
    • JLin Fan from Australia

    • This is the happiest Lin’s been in his NBA career and this INCLUDES Linsanity. Even though Linsanity was a magical time for fans, for Lin it was quite stressful and somewhat alienating. So happy for Lin. Well-deserved! Hope this smooth ride lasts a long long time.

    • real-dsb

      great recap, thanks!

    • CJSHYY

      Just for fun, OK.

    • John Lee

Well, in all fairness this is the very first time that Jeremy’s on a team that’s completely devoid of prima donnas.

    • John Lee

I have the exactly same Adidas slippers! LOL

    • GoodDayLA

      Kobe will sit out, seriously.

    • Briiick

      Cool !

    • yes, Eric Pincus and Mark Medina are the only Lakers reporter who sympathized with Lin.
It’s good that Pincus tried to draft JLin high in the Fantasy Basketball.

    • CJSHYY

I read their tweets everyday. It’s for fun bc Lakers has so many drama that’s really entertainment. LOL!

    • GoodDayLA

this team is cool with Lin. I think the players actually value his game. They will do no worse than ATL last season. We will see some competitve playoff basketball this season from Lin. Still think Cliff has a problem where to play Lin but whatever.

    • grover chang

Clippers look depressed. Kind’ve feel bad for them. Like the post game interview of the Washington Generals after playing the Harlem Globetrotters.

    • LOL I think they’re laughing at JLin’s choice of sandals

    • GoodDayLA

I think he’ll be a Hornet for the next 5-7 years and end his career where it started.

    • yes, Lin looks to be in his elements being together with down-to-earth teammates that he praised the on and off-court characters of his Hornets teammates. Great for him.. and us!

    • blubell

Haha. I was about to say the same thing!

    • wandertheglobe

Right. Much improved. If they win more than 21 games, it will be a major accomplishment.

    • GoodDayLA

only asians go sockless with those sandals

    • blubell

Who is that next to Kemba wearing red shoes?

    • blubell
    • wandertheglobe

These are not Mark’s words. I actually think Mark gets a kick out of these delusional comments from BS. He may be trolling all we know…Twitting outlandish comments from BS to get fans reaction.

    • GoodDayLA

During summer, I made the obvious prediction that the Hornets will go 18-5 to start the season or something like that. Khuang said I was on crack and though he is usually right on everything, I think I got it right this time.

    • wandertheglobe

Lakers are undefeated in the Middle East Division, 1-0.

    • real-dsb

      such a quick release!

    • blubell

He just doesn’t want to say “I was wrong”

    • Rick Johnson

Don’t think so, he always wears those. They’v seen those plenty of time.

    • GoodDayLA

Teams will eventuallly adjust to the Hornets. But The NBA is always slow to adjust so Hornets should get a good record this season.

    • CJSHYY

Do you think Hornets can beat Hawks in opening night?

    • Rick Johnson

Did we think the Hornets would sweep the Clippers and beat them down by 44 points?

    • GoodDayLA

yes though they will probably lose 2 or 3 of the first 5-6 games before they win 8-10 in a row.

    • GoodDayLA

only a few teams will beat the Hornets in the playoffs.

Cavs, Toronto are the only Eastern teams I fear for hornets. I believe they can handle all others.

    • CJSHYY

      Raptors?

    • occupatio

Did anyone with BallStreams manage to watch the game? Ive been waiting for it to be listed, but it’s not.

    • GoodDayLA

yes they will be very good this season.

    • blubell

It was there in the morning but they didn’t show it. They took it down completely now it seems.

    • CJSHYY

Who did they get this summer? I only know Joseph from Spurs.

    • occupatio

Took it down, or it was never up?
Odd, I assume it was on LP, and that everything on LP is also on BallStreams.

    • CJSHYY

Ya! I think it’s about dance… from the way Lin stand…

    • GoodDayLA

same team plus D Carrol. Lowry revamped. It’s just a better gritty team.

    • real-dsb

make sure to paint 3 stripes for Adidas =)

    • blubell

It was up this morning when I went there but they never showed the game so I watched it via LP. Now they don’t even have it listed.

    • blueCypher

I have been waiting for it to be on bstreams the whole day haha. It seems they had technical difficulties with it

    • occupatio

      Yeah, it sucks.
I was looking forward to watching the game when I got back from work today… but nothing. just that really really short highlight clip

    • real-dsb

maybe they’ll get a team theme celebration song on the bus/plane after wins! (like the Warriors last year but with a better song)

    • GoodDayLA

I cannot see the Hornets losing in the playoffs to any eastern team other than Cavs or Raptors in the playoffs. Now Chicago is an unknown with a new coach but I believe Hornets should handle them no problem unless Holberg is an offensive genius.

    • blubell

I rewatched it just now on LP because Ballstream didn’t have it. Jeremy only played 16 minutes and scored almost all of his point in the first few minutes of 1st quarter so you didn’t miss too much.

    • blubell
    • blueCypher

You have both Bstreams and LP ?

    • occupatio

the prob with many highlight clips is they dont show the entire possession, but just show when lin touches the ball. that misses out on how the whole play develops, and how the game flows from one end to another.

and i wanted to watch the rest of the team play too.

    • blubell

Um, yes and no. International LP showed the Global games for free. VPN πŸ˜‰

    • blubell

True, you might have to wait for Christine’s highlights. Next best thing to watching the whole game…

    • CJSHYY

I think only Cavs but Raptors did play well in preseason.

    • occupatio

      indeed

    • joyce ward

Don’t know about that. The Raptors do this every season, they start out strong, but they always fizzle in the end. Also when the PG scores 40 points in a game, shows me there is no team ball being played.

    • blueCypher

Oh wow, you can subscribe for free. I didn’t know, thanks !

    • real-dsb

I have no problem with Lin averaging 20 pts in 20 mins and sitting due to blowout wins! =)

    • real-dsb

secretariat died a long ago =(

    • your son’s voltaire

“PG scores 40 points in a game, shows me there is no team ball being played”

      that’s so true

    • blubell

I think it was just for the global games. The rest of the preseason, you have to pay.

    • orLinaryjoe

Look at his shoulders. Bulked up quite a bit.

    • real-dsb

I prefer Steph Curry minutes: 32 mpg.

    • blubell

“nothing chocolate about these shoulders” – Jeremy Lin. LOL.

    • blueCypher

Ya, only for the global games.

    • blubell

Where are you based? I thought US?

    • CJSHYY

Ya! I don’t think Raptors is the problem even they did play well in preseason.

    • orLinaryjoe

      Did he say that?

    • orLinaryjoe

Bummer, can’t rewatch. Only in Australia

    • blueCypher

      nah, Canada.

    • real-dsb

and also remove “combo” and “I’ve” and “seen around”

    • blubell

Canada, eh? LOL. I want to visit Canada someday. It’s in my list of places to visit!

    • real-dsb

yeah, sometimes the team ball movement doesn’t work out, or the 3 ptrs aren’t falling, and you need a isolation low post guy to change things up for a bit.

    • blubell

Haha. Yes, in the “How to fit in the NBA” video with Dwight.

    • real-dsb

LOL at “sweep”. 2 game sweep =)

    • GoodDayLA

you may be right. But that is why Corey and Carroll were signed and Lowry got in shape finally. If Tor can’t hack it, 1 less team to worry about! ATL will be a top 4 team but I think Hornets just a tad better.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

      Not all were bad.

    • real-dsb

whatever, we have better things to do than pay attention to lame writers.

    • blubell

I agree. Batum seems to impact the game while under the radar.

    • orLinaryjoe

That’s right. Forgot about that weird moment.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

      That’s where he’s always fail

    • blubell

Coach lacking in accountability? No thank you. I’m glad Jeremy is out of that environment.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

      I’m still waiting.

    • John Lee

I actually love wearing them with socks…

    • Maknusia

I totally missed the game ;(
      Will be downloading it later.

I read he had superb game…he is on fire! As many fans had said, the only major challenge he has this season is facing the opponents, and there there is no drama internally with the Coach, FO or teammates.

With his Super Saiyan mode, pretty sure he is gonna do well when the season starts…..as the team mesh and build the chemistry they could ease top 5-6 on Eastern Conference.

Its still too early to say much, let the season start and 1-20 games down the road we will have a better picture.

      GO Hornets! Go Jeremy!

PS…let me dig some pictures of the last 2 games

    • Maknusia

Looks like it…since they are looking at his feet

    • blubell

Very brave of you to admit it. LOL. I don’t really have a problem with it and don’t get why some people are so offended by it.

    • John Lee

Fairly common sight in LA suburbs, but I can see how East Coast people might not appreciate them as much. πŸ™‚

    • Maknusia

Yeah….as we observe most of the posted pictures…(SmiLin all the way)….he is meshing well on and off court….Glad to see all the happy moments!…Its been way too long in the dungeon

    • Maknusia

nah…as long as its mid- northern, its common to see folks wearing sandals with socks, its due to the temperature and furthermore they dont like the sweat…socks helps

    • wandertheglobe

I emailed them and they are trying to get the archived game on demand.

    • real-dsb

Ballhandling looks better than ever. He can instantly switch to low fast dribble in traffic to reduce chance of being stolen, and keep his dribble. He’s addi
