Preseason3 BKN Nets vs MIA Heat: Finding 15-Man Roster

With Jeremy Lin and Brook Lopez getting alternate rest in Preseason Game 1 and 2, it is clear that Coach Atkinson wants to use this game to continue evaluating which players will make the cut to the 15-man roster and which ones will get sent to the D-League.

The good news is Lin will play although it might be limited so Coach Atkinson can make more evaluation for Isiah Whitehead, Yogi Ferrel, Jorge Gutierrez

It is possible that as Coach Atkinson will play the starters and the 2nd unit more time in the last 3 preseason games after he finishes conducting his 15-man roster evaluation.

Here is a possible depth chart showing who are most likely to make it to the 15-man roster

Point Guard (PG): Jeremy Lin, Greivis Vasquez, Isaiah Whitehead
Shooting Guard (SG): Bojan Bogdanovic (SG/SF), Sean Kilpatrick, Randy Foye, Joe Harris (SG/SF)
Small Forward (SF): Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Caris LeVert (SF/SG)
Power Forward (PF): Trevor Booker, Luis Scola, Anthony Bennet
Center (C): Brook Lopez, Justin Hamilton, Chris McCullough

On the bubble: Yogi Ferrell, Beau Beech, Jorge Gutierrez and Egidijus Mockevicius will most likely be sent to the D-League.

It will be interesting to watch how Jeremy Lin play together with Justin Hamilton who will start in place of Brook Lopez. Will Joe Harris continue to impress with his 3pt shooting? And will Mockevicious impress his rebounding skills or even try to make some 3s?

Let’s hope and pray that JLin and the Nets continue to play well and both teams have good health.  Let’s go, JLin! Let’s go, Nets!

    1st! Lets go NETS!

  • psalm234

Who knew that Lin almost played with Anthony Davis at the New Orleans Pelicans?
And the fact that Brook recruited Lin and Lin texted Brook first before making the announcement of joining the Nets shows it will be a good partnership

  • Yura

Awwwww, preseason is boring lol, can’t wait to see Lin play more!!

  • takeme2cruz

My favorite paragraph of ESPN article:

But Lin, already having endured the extremes of an up-and-down career, has what he wants — the keys to a franchise and significant responsibility — along with the backing of his die-hard fans, who point out that statistics show he performs better as a starter than as a reserve.

  • takeme2cruz

Agree, but this season will be the year we Lin fans will enjoy the most. So I would suggest we take it slow and long last the fun.

  • Click Click

    Patience is a virtue. :p

We’ll get to see lots of Lin soon enough. It’s a very long season…

  • rookie75094

Let’s go Jlin!!! Spank the Miami cold-fronts!!!

  • Click Click

Lin, an international star who will earn $11.5 million in salary this season, settled in a sleepy neighborhood that is convenient to both the practice facility and the arena, he said. (Lin declined to identify which neighborhood because of privacy concerns.)

“It’s a lot more quiet and more my speed,” Lin said.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/12/sports/basketball/nets-pro-athletes-live-in-brooklyn.html?smid=tw-nytsports&smtyp=cur&_r=1

  • Click Click

Lin is playing the Landry Fields role now, but he has an actual guest bedroom instead of a small rental couch. Kilpatrick lives in Westchester / Westchester, where he grew up, so it’s a far commute…

Another logistical hurdle for Kilpatrick: morning shootarounds before evening games at Barclays Center. Players who live near the practice facility can head home for a pregame nap. Not Kilpatrick. Not unless he wants to make another round trip in time for the game. So Lin has a standing offer to let Kilpatrick crash at his place.

“He has a guest room,” Kilpatrick said. “It’s nice to have guys like that on your team.”

  • takeme2cruz

Lin makes sure Kilpatrick feeling fresh to make his open shot. No assists go to waste.

  • Sophie Paris

    Will Lin play this time?

  • Click Click

We’ll get to see Ham-Lin / JLinHam / HamiLin tonight. Going to be very interesting to see how the offense flows with a faster, better-shooting, but less-capable scoring big man.

I hope Atkinson plays Beau Beech tonight. Beech hasn’t been allowed to play yet. He grew up 20 minutes outside of Jacksonville, Florida and played for University of Northern Florida. I’m sure a lot of his family, friends, and fans will attend tonight’s game, hoping to see him get a chance to play against the Heat.

  • Click Click

Yes. Brook and Foye are sitting out tonight.

  • cdblue10

I hope we can see a line up of Hamilton,Lin,Harris,Booker and Scola tonight.

    Great. I’m watching this 😉

Good thing Nets won’t be playing on TNT this year, unless they make the playoffs…

Kevin McHale will return to Turner Sports in a multi-year agreement to provide analysis for NBA TV’s popular Fan Night, along with select NBA on TNT game telecasts.

    http://www.nba.com/article/2016/10/11/kevin-mchale-turner-sports-nba-analyst

  • blueCypher

But aren’t they on NBATV a few times ? So Kevin Mchale might call those games haha.

  • blueCypher

That article on Lin’s free agency is interesting. Basically the other serious contender was the Pelicans. That must have been enticing for him since because of the Anthony Davis pick and roll

  • Click Click

He’ll be on Fan Night, where fans vote for the games they want to watch on Tuesday nights.

  • Click Click

Lin and Anthony Davis would destroy this league.

I’d rather have Lin on the Nets though. Much bigger market, media attention, better coach that fully trusts Lin, and his own team to lead. He’d most likely have to play behind Jrue Holiday in New Orleans. Most of us wouldn’t be happy with that. In Brooklyn, all of his teammates have bought into Lin as their leader.

  • 1mtoldman

last time i got the austrailian time wrong this time the parisian; apparently i am incapable of reading the world clock, quel dommage.

  • blueCypher

Ya, I was looking at their roster . Article said they were not willing to pay as “much” as brooklyn, which is actually not that high. Therefore he might not have been the definitive point guard, or he would have to prove his role. He made the right and safe choice choosing the coach that will empower him.

  • takeme2cruz

Too bad because this is exactly what I hope for. This season lin will lead and play so well that McHale has to comment on, possibly why Lin was demoted to the bench under his coaching.

  • Click Click

You do make a good point. Maybe we can start a campaign and vote in some Nets games on Fan Night to force NBA TV to show Nets games this year.

  • takeme2cruz

The Pelicans must be also another team offered Lin the starting job.

  • takeme2cruz

Yes but wait a minute, I have no NBA tv from my cable provider and they will blackout that game in league pass, what to do what to do? lol

  • Kwok Wai Lai

considering the immense popularity of Lin and what the team have done to Jeremy, I think the Rockets’ claim is absurd.

  • Click Click

I doubt it was for the starting job. They did want Lin, but not willing to pay him starter money.

  • takeme2cruz

yeah they would be awesome duo but so will Lin and Lopez.

  • Click Click

So you’re not going to be able to watch the game tonight on NBA TV? Or are you going to watch it on some shady streams?

  • blueCypher

I expect big things from the Lin-Lopez duo this year 🙂

  • blueCypher

Right. Not willing to pay him starter money makes it a question mark

  • blueCypher

I’m looking at the other contracts given out during the summer, and what Lin got from the Nets is closer to back up money. Jamal Crawford and Matthew Delly got similar contracts

  • takeme2cruz

There’s no confirmation but my feeling tells me whoever Lin had consideration with the Nets’ offer, it must be the same responsibility as starting role.

  • blueCypher

Ya, that’s the key there – starting role and coach’s trust

  • takeme2cruz

Yes, I will order league pass once season starts. They usually give early bird discount.

  • psalm234

Isn’t Jrue Holiday still there as the incumbent PG?
His wife had some health issues so he might miss some games in the beginning but there might be more competition.

With smaller salary, it definitely offers less job security from the perspective of coach’s and GM’s support. I also believe Lin chose wisely

  • Click Click

Of course. I said before free agency started that Brook is one of the main reasons I want Lin to go to Brooklyn.

Just saying that Lin and Davis would destroy everybody lol.

  • heart

joe Harris gets the nod to start at wing. Hopefully Hamilton too at center. Can’t wait to see them work w/ Lin. Best wishes to them all!

    https://twitter.com/NYPost_Lewis/status/785969453938962432

  • blueCypher

Very cool. Joe Harris has to kill it now. Let it fly and knock em down 🙂

  • Click Click

Hmm… why not start both Bojan and Harris? RHJ is great for defense, but Atkinson should see what a starting lineup of shooters can do.

  • takeme2cruz

I am not 100% sure but Lin can be easily slide to 2 and back to 1 so I would not believe Lin would have any consideration if it’s not a starting job.

  • blueCypher

Hmm, I’m not sure about Bojan and Harris starting. But at some points during the game I wouldn’t mind that line up 🙂

  • I am The Jason

McHale won’t be calling any games. He will just be halftime and end of game analyst like the crew from Inside the NBA

  • Click Click

I made it very clear when Lin rushed to sign the contract, that I wasn’t happy because if he waited 2-3 more days, he could have gotten way more offers and money.

Lin was giving the Nets a big discount and he had his mind made up before free agency started. I think he wanted to give Marks the freedom to offer big contracts to build a team around him. Marks did just that, except Miami and Portland matched.

  • takeme2cruz

….and the competition is just beginning.

  • heart

Yep, we saw Harris, Hamilton, Bog & Hamilton did well together in preseason game 2 in 2Q w/o Lin. They held their own against the Knicks starters. These guys are fast and fun to watch. Wish KA saw that and implements this line up in the future w/ Lin at the helm…

  • CJSHYY
  • Epie

    I like this lineup

  • takeme2cruz

I am predicting after this 2 seasons, Lin will resign with big money.

  • blueCypher

Interesting to see what this will do 🙂

  • takeme2cruz

The way the Brooklyn promoting RHJ, it’s hard not to start him over Harris. But anything can change into the season.

  • blueCypher

They probably think they need his defensive 2guard skills next to Lin at the start of games.

  • Chris B.

This is the experiment I was waiting for, and not just be safe by playing Foye and Vasquez.

  • takeme2cruz

    I agree.

  • Click Click

Yeah, less pressure and criticism too, given the smear campaign from Knicks on Lin’s Rockets contract.

At the time I was unhappy, but I’m perfectly fine with Lin’s Nets contract now.

  • heart

Hope we see pnr w/ Lin and Hamilton or even Harris. Pray that Hamilton will hold his own against Whiteside. Whiteside has size and height, but Hamilton has quickness & bb iq. Booker w/ his size needs to help out Hamilton w/ defense against Whiteside. Hopefully Booker play smart and safe w/o making that scary fall like in game 1.

  • Click Click

It’s pretty good. Lin and Harris can both hit 3s. Hamilton can stretch the floor. Booker and RHJ will provide inside presence, defense, and rebounding.

  • Epie

Can you talk to NI and come back to ND? We miss you there.

  • Click Click

LOL nah. I’d rather not go back. He handled that whole situation extremely unprofessionally, unfairly, and kept on lying about me and taunting me, even after he banned me.

  • heart

Yep. But if SM & KA are living up to their word, then talents should win over. If Harris is killing it tonight, I will call for it. For the life of me, RHJ needs to shoot better. After playing w/ Lin this season, I think Lin’s mentorship will help RHJ shoots better. Lin helped Howard w/ his free throws.

  • psalm234

This could be a killer lineup if Hamilton can hold off Whiteside in the middle.
Harris can be a combo of Novak/Landry to provide 3s and slashing.

Starters: Lin, Harris, RHJ, Booker, + Hamilton

  • psalm234

It was a bad lineup for sure.
    JHam, RHJ, Booker

  • CJSHYY

    Ya! Whiteside is good.

  • DX

    This preseason, why risk?

  • cdblue10

Not much of an offensive options there

  • heart

Whiteside has size. And the Heat scheme has lots of pnr w/ open lane. Hamilton stretches out as Center 5. Whiteside camps inside.

  • TVN

He’s a backup center and nothing more.

  • Spyckie

bad matchup. Whiteside vs Hamilton is just no good. Inside buckets so much more reliable than outside shooting. Hamilton got some good looks, just didn’t go in.

  • psalm234

    yes, they can’t create offense

  • cshot

yah rhj i dont think is ready to start

  • cdblue10

Whiteside is having a field day

  • blueCypher

Whiteside is just so big. This is where you need Lopez size.

  • Click Click

Whiteside is having a picnic out there. Nobody on the Nets can guard him. This game is over, especially because Kenny won’t play Lin a lot.

  • heart

Remember Whiteside is handful for other Centers too. It really depends on matchup. Nets do not run lots of pnr. Center lane clogged most times.

  • Vincent

yeah especially if booker will be starting at the 4

  • kauaiblue

So KA didnt play lopez to counter whiteside?

  • Click Click

He doesn’t care about winning or losing these games.

He only wants to give all 19 players playtime before he makes cuts.

  • Vincent

man their offense does not look good right now.

  • kauaiblue

    Whats he trying to do?

  • Spyckie

yeah. Who in this lineup would even generate a threat from anywhere except the open 3 line?

  • cshot

experimenting with all kinds of line ups while saving lin from any kind of injury. gotta protect his star players

  • gandychan

Scola keeps over helping on d off of whiteside. I don’t understand why he would leave whiteside.

  • cdblue10

I hope Atkinson will set a regular line up for them to familiarized each other,Definitely RHJ is not ready to start.I will even consider Booker to come off the bench.

  • Click Click

LOL too much overreaction. This is just preseason.

  • Vincent

even if lopez is off, he still makes teams respect him which will open up shots for other players

  • kauaiblue

    Too many 3s…

idk about too much overreaction. when lin was on the lakers we said the same thing

  • blueCypher

    Finding their groove ….. ?

  • blueCypher

    Ya, please ….

  • I am The Jason

It’s on NBA TV if you have that channel

  • cdblue10

This is a good line up

  • zxcvb

Any Lin lineup is a good lineup!

  • your son’s legendary voltaire

    Lin / Scola / Bog / Ham / Harris

    NICE

  • CaliUSMC

Lin will average 20pts easily this season. EASY

  • cdblue10

    not with Booker and RHJ

  • Click Click

When Whiteside isn’t on the floor…

  • Win

If Hamilton improves his D, his kid is gonna be very good.

  • Win

    Bad D…

  • cdblue10

NO doubt….most improved and all star

  • Win

Scola lazy D lead to TJ layup.

  • Click Click

    Kilpatrick!

  • cdblue10

    Killlpppp for 3333

  • zxcvb

    22/8.

  • Spyckie

haha scola isn’t lazy he’s just slow. He shoulda fouled on the transition though.

  • Win

Nets game is going to be over a lot. $ bet. 🙂

  • Vincent

yes and its a good sign that kenny was getting him involved in tons of screens and rolls

  • Win

Yeah. And Brook has the same (slow) speed…

  • zxcvb

Good rest for Lin here. He’s already in midseason form.

Whiteside having his way inside though. Too fast for all the Nets bigs.

  • blueCypher

I need that first half Lin highlights haha 🙂

  • cdblue10

    Alreadyyyy?????lol

  • Vincent

see the amount of minutes for lin does not matter nearly as much as his usage. we saw lin play 40 minutes some games only to stand in the corner the entire game and play hard defense.

  • Spyckie

yeah… i think transition D will be difficult. Mismatches will be difficult. Switches will be difficult…

pretty much everything is gonna be difficult. Thankfully no one but whiteside can create offense on the heat right now.

  • Vincent

if lin is given 33-36 minutes he will no doubt average over 20 a game

  • zxcvb

Happy with Ham’s offense. His defense…not at all. Whiteside keeps beating him to his spot inside. Bigs have to prevent the easy catches in the paint.

  • zxcvb

    Easy. 15-17 FGA = 20-24ppg

  • takeme2cruz

    Nets’s bench looking exciting.

  • Spyckie

Anytime nets have a mismatch the defense struggles a lot… 🙁

  • cdblue10

Bennett is turning to be a solid player

  • blueCypher

Ya , hope he breaks out this year.

  • David Kim

I made a bet with my 2 friends for dinner..
I win if Lin averages “18 pts, 7 assts or more” or 20 pts, 5 assts or more” before playoffs…
Do you guys think i will win the bet?

  • Click Click

    I can’t believe he’s 2 for 3 at the arc already.

  • xeroid

Lin’s team causing Miami to foul over the limit with 8 minutes remaining, now they are reaping all those free shots.

  • cdblue10

I saw him practicing that before pre season so he improved a lot

  • zxcvb

Everyone on the Nets is mismatched against Whiteside! Scola way too slow. Hamilton, too rusty. Not used to seeing athletes like Whiteside in Europe.

  • blueCypher

Is Lin icing that left knee ? I hope he is okay

  • Joe what do you know

Really liking what I’m seeing from TJohnson. I think it’s justifiable that the Net went over and above his market value trying to acquire him from the Heat.

  • Briiick

The coach is resting Lin and Lopez in alternating preseason games, with a lot of guts and confidence.

  • blueCypher

Ya, plus he is young and can develop some more.

  • zxcvb

I like his game a lot. Not ready to be a starter, but he would have made a good backup/6th man.

  • Spyckie

he is the strongest player on the court a lot of the time, a lot of time I think only he can guard some of the stronger centers we are up against.

  • Click Click

Yeah, he made 7 out of 8 3s in practice in this clip:

  • cdblue10

  • zxcvb

Lin already in All-NBA form! He’s in total control, takes over when he wants to.

  • Click Click

TJ bumped into Lin’s knee. Wasn’t on purpose, but looked like he hurt Lin.

  • CJSHYY

    I agree….

  • Briiick

    Agreed.

  • blueCypher

I think the icing is just precaution . Nothing serious.

  • Click Click

I want to see more Lin, but I hope he takes off the rest of the game. TJ bumped into Lin’s knee and looks like he got hurt on the play. No need to risk any injuries.

  • CJSHYY
  • Alaingrvis

im here from class what did i miss??????

  • 1mtoldman

i think its actually he’s resting primary players 2 games of the 6 pre set so each game 2 guys sit out; this time lopez/foye last time lin/scola; like that. first time bogdanovic & ??? dont remember.

  • cdblue10

CJ are you our replay vid guy now???pretty awesome

  • cdblue10

    A lot

  • 1mtoldman

not even breaking a sweat. cruise control.

  • Click Click

Bad start, Whiteside abused the Nets, bench stopped the bleeding, Lin and Bog played well and lead the Nets in scoring with 10 pts.

  • Sophie Paris

    3-5, 2 threes 🙂

  • blueCypher

Scola is too damn crafty, and I love it. This dude is perfect backup 4

  • Alaingrvis

    good good lol

  • Spyckie

    really pretty strokes too 🙂

  • cdblue10

    And 1 4 assts 1 steal

  • Alaingrvis

  • cshot

im really liking scola….. hmmmm the starting 5 is still up in the air

  • 1mtoldman

    4 assists; 10 points in 12 minutes.

  • blueCypher

Lopez is starter 5 and that is not debatable

  • Sophie Paris

    Yes linsanity haha

  • Click Click

    LOL

  • cdblue10

He’s a smart player aside from being 40% at the arc

  • Joe what do you know

Vasques really underwhelms me… Feels like he is good at nothing… a solid C- at everything apart from passing(C+)…

  • Win

I felt like G. Vasquez keep passing the ball to Scola…..

  • blueCypher

Who is doing the halftime show ?

  • cdblue10

I’ll give him a pass,he just came back from an injury

  • Spyckie

scola is really needed for our bench offense IMO. He reads plays really well on D and can disrupt but . But I think that skill is better against benches (against starting lineups I don’t think he will be effective).

  • zxcvb

Jeremy wishing he could play with Whiteside…

  • blueCypher

Yup, let’s not have such a short leash on him.

  • pandaboy99

Heat should have given tyler johnson money to Lin

  • Chris B.

Can Nets pick up players that are waived after preseason? Geez, they desperately need a defensive big.

  • I am The Jason

Really wished we had Tyler Johnson over Vasquez right now

  • Alaingrvis

him and Lopez hasn’t gotten started yet

  • Joe what do you know

I’ll do an re-evaluation at the end of the year then…

  • 1mtoldman

front court defense has been a problem every game.

  • blueCypher

Ya, but it was not meant to be. Sean Marks has other plans.

  • Alaingrvis

the heat not even starting him and he got a ton of money

  • Spyckie

If we didn’t have AB I don’t know who we would put on strong bigs down low…

  • Parent of Lots of Kids

I hope Lin isn’t hurt. A bunch of us fans are going to the Barclay Center to see JLin play v the Celtics…

  • CJSHYY

I hope Nets can have answer for Whiteside when regular season starts….

  • Chris B.

I like Booker, but he is too small to play PF.

  • 1mtoldman

a lot of people aren’t going to have an answer for whiteside.

  • blueCypher

I think Lopez can match up with him

  • Joe what do you know

I think 6’9″ is adequet enough for the job if he is strong enough and good at positioning himself.

  • zxcvb

Lopez can at least make Whiteside work on defense.

  • 1mtoldman

didn’t you (and yer kids) already get a handful of lin first game?

and u might want to rethink that; as i read the way atkinson is doing his rotational each game 2 guys sitting i would think that would be the most likely game for lin to sit again. (well he’ll defintely sit again one of the boston games)

  • blueCypher

From my understanding , is Lin is “done” with the sitting since he has already served his part.

  • HVJoy

I just got home. Nets leads! Whiteside had 11 rebounds already!?

  • cdblue10

Nets can match against Miami pretty well.I’m not really worried about him,it’s the starting line up that I’m concerned about

  • NONONO

    RHJ 0 pts? nonono

  • Spyckie

RHJ needs to develop. He has the tools to penetrate but can’t really find an efficient shot when he does.

  • 1mtoldman

could be i interpret it to be everybody sits 2 times; but what he may have meant is 2 guys sit every time.

  • Joe what do you know

Whiteside is freakish in today’s NBA but I don’t think he’s THAT good. Not as strong as Shaq, not crafty and refined like Hakeem. He’all be a decent centre back in the days but not a hard dilemma for other teams to solve.

  • NONONO

Nets big guys are two weak on defense except Brook., need to catch up soon

  • kauaiblue

Not really liking his game… doesnt look to pass…

  • heart

Can’t shoot, can’t finish at the basket…thus far.

  • Click Click

This guy is a pro. Already has the 1Q highlights up…

  • blueCypher

LOL , too good haha 🙂

  • Parent of Lots of Kids

I hope he plays. Want to watch him play against Brad Steven’s team.

  • 1mtoldman

right because there just arent that many tradtional center “centric” teams out there; so not that many teams have an answer. when the question rarely comes up.

  • cdblue10

    Man your fast

  • NONONO

Vasquez 0 pts too? I am afraid that Lin might have to play more SG this season

  • JLin fan from Australia

It said, “Sit two guys in every game.” JLin has done his duty for sitting out… No more in preseason games.

  • NONONO

    i mean SG

  • blueCypher

He is ready . He has been sitting more than enough previous years.

  • 1mtoldman

c responses below seems im probably wrong.

  • Joe what do you know

Yes. Hmmm if you ask me, i’d say he’s pretty much the younger version of Dwight… physically gifted but how long would it last?

  • Sophie Paris

Just his few minutes are already promising.

  • takeme2cruz

    Need Lopez to stop Whiteside

  • Click Click

It’s worrisome, but gotta keep in mind, he hasn’t played or trained for many months. He’s trying his best to come back from his injury. Give him some time. If all else fails, Nets will have to rely on Foye and Whitehead to backup Lin.

  • Click Click

Yeah, he’s made the best out of the 28 minutes he’s played so far in preseason.

  • Joe what do you know

Lol. Lin just did a rim hang…

  • Click Click

Booker needs to put away those easy gimmes near the rim…

  • cdblue10

    It’s ugly RHJ

  • Joe what do you know

Oh man… RHJ is very raw… very raw….

  • cdblue10

Lin is already in mid season form

  • cdblue10

    finally for rhj

  • cdblue10

    assist for Ham 3333

  • Click Click

    Booker having a bad game…

  • zxcvb

Nets motto should be changed from “We came to play” to “Lin came to play.”

Some really bad miscues inside by Nets bigs.

  • zxcvb

    Great pass by Lin. Nash-like.

  • CaliUSMC

    Hamilton O_O

  • cdblue10

Just beat this Miami I don’t care if it’s pre-season I just don’t like them

  • blueCypher

Its okay, I like that drive take and he missed an easy put back

  • Joe what do you know

Right…. JHam got my seal of approval…

  • Spyckie

    yeah… that surprised

  • zxcvb

His offense is superb…defense needs work. He has the tools, but is getting beat inside.

  • Click Click

He can’t matchup against top-tier big men, but as a bench center backing up Brook, he’s more than adequate.

  • Joe what do you know

Needs to bulk up. That’s the first step.

  • kauaiblue

    Rhj is a ball hog…

  • cdblue10

If RHJ will settle for cuttings and moving w/o the ball,he will be effective.

  • Click Click

  • Win

Get Whiteside in foul troubles early is the key vs the Heat

  • sport

Another close game for the Nets, they really have a ways to go.

  • zxcvb

I think he just needs to be more aware and tenacious. His build is good.

  • Click Click

Yeah, that’s how Hornets beat the Heat 3 games in a row. Lin kept driving and Whiteside kept fouling him lol.

  • cdblue10

    C.mon RHJ just stop!!!!

  • Joe what do you know

His hyperactive demeanour really reminds me of…. PB…

  • Spyckie

Unfortunately, you are witnessing player development

  • cdblue10

    I know

  • Click Click

Lin with another nice move. 14 points already.

  • Vincent

man hollis jefferson should not be starting

  • cshot

rhj needs a lot of filmwork lol

  • sport

This team is pretty average, Lin has to get his shots all by himself, where in the world are his open passes? Also teammates a bit too iso happy this game need to move the ball more..

  • kauaiblue

Lamb would be awesome for this nets team…

  • zxcvb

Lin just cruising. He could take over this game by himself…but it’s preseason so whatever. Get others involved.

  • james brown

he’s a hogger now..no sense of passing the ball!

  • your son’s legendary voltaire

RHJ needs Lin to recommend a good high school shooting coach

  • Joe what do you know

Lin is the obvious bright spot… I’m liking this game. He’s cementing his importance to this organisation. Happy to see he’s finally got HIS team…

  • Alaingrvis

I think this team plays too slow

  • Click Click

Yeah, he’s not worried about dominating the Heat in a preseason game. Taking it easy.

  • james brown

hope he realize he’s not the only player inside!

  • Alaingrvis

    RHJ has to shoot less

  • zxcvb

RHJ needs a prescription from “The Doctor”

  • rabit1111

Lin is good tonight, but rhj is really bad. No jump shot at all.

  • james brown

coach needs to state the obvious!

  • Sophie Paris

Haha just an hour missing. 6 hours more than eastern time is my time.

  • sport

RHJ also annoying me when he charge a the basket and misses.

  • zxcvb

Preseason. They’re trying to implement the motion offense (which is wise), so there’s a lot of herky-jerky play.

  • cshot

RHJ just needs to cut and drive lol.

  • NONONO

Put Bogdanovic in and see how Lin can help him get more points

  • blueCypher

Guys . Chill on RHJ for now. Let him have his ISO moments during preseason .

  • rabit1111

    His D is bad tonight

  • NONONO

RHJ’s D is weak too today

  • Spyckie

We need RHJ to develop some offense otherwise the starters are seriously gimped with 3/5 offense creators. I say he keep shooting, but he needs to take better shots and develop some goto moves

  • sport

Agree way to slow, where the fast paced basketball Lin’s so good at?! They have young guys make them run!!

  • Vincent

    lin out already 🙁

  • Click Click

Lin is most likely done for the night. He’s done enough. 17 minutes, 14 points, 5 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal.

  • pandaboy99

    that means nets lose

  • cdblue10

Miami is playing this game like a regular season

  • kauaiblue

    Jlin donr for the night?

  • CaliUSMC

    :

  • Yura

Confidence 🙂 he’s like super Mario with confidence!

  • zxcvb

    …without breaking a sweat! That’s 28/10/4/2 in 34 min.

  • rabit1111

    I like that stat line

  • sport

Gosh can these teammates just stop charging at the basket and missing shots? It’s so ugly!

  • Alaingrvis

Rhj cant play sg because he cant shoot or playmake.

  • NONONO

it is okey to sit lin for the rest of game. Nets needs find reliable backup PG/SG

  • sport

Come on I just started watching from 2nd half :/ Hope Lin comes back since it’s a close game.

  • cshot

kilpatrick!!! maybe he should get a shot at sg lol

  • sport

Feels like another ball hog, tunnel vision in the making.

  • NONONO

    sorry, back up PG/SG

  • zxcvb

That would be nice, but next preseason game is Thursday vs. Boston, so maybe just rest up.

  • rabit1111

    He’s done for tonight

  • Alaingrvis

with foye atleast he can pass. without him if Lin didnt have the ball its go back to defense time

  • Rick James

this game looks ugly, only Lin is playing like an NBA player

  • sport

only played 17mins, can certainly play more. I just hope these minutes doesn’t transfer to regular season minutes cause I’d be pretty pissed off and Nets would lose a lot of games like that.

  • zxcvb

Lin doesn’t have anything to work on though. He’s acing every “test.”

Also, Lopez isn’t playing so there’s no chemistry to work on.

  • NONONO

Justin and Bogdanovic are good too.

  • Joe what do you know

Bog really isn’t doing much… but I guess it’s better than trying to do too much like RHJ…

  • Alaingrvis

That lineup should be thrown out

  • heart

Why did KA pull Lin when Heat’s momentum/tempo is picking up? This happens in the last game too.

  • Click Click

Bog was hot in 1st half. Now he’s cooled off.

  • your son’s legendary voltaire

not much anyone can do without a capable point guard on the floor

  • james brown

    pre season..:)

  • I am The Jason

Smh at Whitehead. He is a disaster right now.

  • zxcvb

    Because it’s preseason?

  • sport

all pre season games has been ugly except Lin. Are all these teammates rookies? Players going straight at the rim and missing shots just awful. Not enough movement either, players just standing there and passing the ball but no one’s moving :/

  • Joe what do you know

    Spot on…

  • Spyckie

preseason. really need to figure out who gets more play time

  • Vincent

at least the nets dont look terrible. they can have a good season if brook and lin stay healthy. i could tell after the lakers preseason that they were going to be lousy. the nets dont look that way

  • Spyckie

To be fair for all these guys, Whitehead, CMC, RHJ – they are still technically rookies

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

He’s not trying to win or trying to build chemistry…don’t know why.

  • Spyckie

RHJ is raw, not a rookie, my bad.

  • rabit1111

It makes my eyes sore watching this unit play. Seems like the ball swings around the perimeter then a drive to the hoop with one and done

  • sport

All of you saying preseason I hope you’re right, already starting to get fed up with coach’s rotations and minutes.

  • zxcvb

If Lin is healthy (75+ games and 34mpg), Nets will win 40+.

  • james brown

not liking his play either..at least not yet.

  • Alaingrvis

IDK with a team this young and unestablished, you would think we would play guys alot in preaseason

  • Rick James

i told you guys nets would be ugly. Yeah, they are all pretty much rookies, but I was hoping they would step up against the heat who don’t have wade anymore

  • Michael

This is too true to be good;…

  • heart

Did you hear what the Heat announcer said? Heat Dragic, Pg and Whiteside, Center have to lead the Heat this year and they’re “bonding”. Spoestra is doing what we want KA to do for Lopez and Lin, but we haven’t seen that so far.

  • sport

Plays like a rookie and trainwreck, might as well be.

  • zxcvb

You honestly think starters will be averaging 17mpg during the regular season?

This is how preseason works in the NBA. Established starters usually don’t play much except for a game or two towards the end.

  • Win

None can post up in our team, except maybe Brook.

  • james brown

dragic is trying his best to be the man even during pre season.LOL!

  • Spyckie

whitehead takes some unnecessary dribbles, really kills his offensive efficiency.

  • Click Click

Come on man, it IS preseason. These games don’t count and most coaches don’t care if they win or lose. They’re testing what lineups and players should be playing together and who should be cut from the team.

  • Alaingrvis

    our bigs are so small

  • cdblue10

    Bogs for 3333,that’s our SG

  • Rick James

nobody complain, this is the team you guys wanted lin to go to, so suck it up.

  • Vincent

its cuz the heat have most of their roster set already

  • sport

Exactly main players should be bonding during preseason so they will be “ready” yet we don’t see any of that. Lin and Lopez are barely getting any minutes! What is coach thinking?

  • Spyckie

like, he dribbles in place and it kills any surprise or step advantage he may have

  • Alaingrvis

Honestly we need to play faster. It seems good that everyone touches the ball but if they miss or turn it over ofton then give it to someone who can do something with it

  • CaliUSMC

    Savage

  • your son’s legendary voltaire

who is complaining? Lin / Bog / Scola / Ham / Harris is awesome

  • Spyckie

was just thinking that lol. But rookies aren’t used to nba pace

  • Win

Whitehead have a long long long way to go.

  • Epie

Scola needs hairstyle consultation with Lin ASAP.

  • zxcvb

In just 35m of play, Lin has 35p/6a/5r/2s on 65% shooting (64% from 3). That’s one game’s worth of playing time!

  • kauaiblue

Agreed. I thpught jlin would have the nall in his hands… havent seen it as much as anticipated…

  • Alaingrvis

I have yet to see Lin look like he did at his peak on the hornets. He is individualy playing well. Not the normal Lin tsunami Like on the knicks with great passing. To me its the pace.

  • heart

Don’t think KA will let Lin play that long.

  • Win

    No one is complaining.

  • Rick James

lin will probably be playing 40+ mins per game on average if the rest of the nets are this bad. This is preseason though, so im not going to take too much out of this. One thing is for sure, coach atkinson has a ton of work ahead of him.

  • Joe what do you know

Yeah… grow a goatee or something, at least that way he’ll look like Jesus…

  • zxcvb

He’ll play more in close games. Less in blowout wins (or losses).

  • Vincent

well he did have 5 assists so he is dishing the ball well

  • Click Click

Ugly 3rd quarter. Last game, Nets lost in 3rd Q as well. Hopefully the 3rd stringers and D-Leaguers can somehow come back in 4th.

  • Rick James

really, all I see are complaints after complaints, why not try reading the posts below and above

  • Alaingrvis

Yea but heats see not being overwhelmed by it. There seem to be no passing Lanes again

  • NONONO

i have not see any positive from Whitehead today. Nets’ backup PG has big hole

  • Alaingrvis

At somepoint you learn the 3rd stringer are not that good.

  • sport

teammates also lost and missing shots. Seems like team has way too many rookies and newbies.

  • Vincent

yeah the pain was clogged much of the time, but lin wasnt driving as much as he normally does

  • Win

Yup. And the space and off the ball players positioning

  • Click Click

Atkinson really needs to put in Beech. Let the man play in his home state!

  • Click Click

    Woa, Lin’s back out there!

  • james brown

those are ALL Observations/assessments of players od Nets , otherwise your observation/assessment is also a complaint?..LOL!!! cheers.

  • Epie

    wha wha what? yay

  • kauaiblue

Did KA save his super secret duo of brook-lin for th regular season?

  • Win

    24 mins night.

  • Epie

I think so. He’s hiding something.

  • sport

Coach really trying to win? or Just want Lin to lead the rookies? bench players dug a deep hole already!

  • Spyckie

Skil, whitehead, bog starting the offensive set – you can tell they are pretty raw at it. Skil will try to do a move half heartedly and then do a hand off. Bog will try to drive but not create any advantage from it enough to get a good shot. Whitehead needs a more direct attack and needs to see the other options in case he doesn’t get a good look.

  • Click Click

Lin gave up an easy layup to give Scola points.

  • zxcvb

I honestly think he might be…

  • Rick James

heat start doubling lin right from the start of 4Q

  • sport

Better be or I’d be extremely pissed off.

  • NONONO

Heat Ranked 29, should not be so tough to beat

  • sport

Finally Lin x Scola! Scola needs to start! I cringe seeing Lin play with RHJ.

  • heart

Why did KA let the lead slip and gotten behind in double digits w/o calling a time out?

  • Rick James

scola might be the diamond in the rough, his tyson chandler.

  • Spyckie

KA is desperately hoping someone else will start to break out during preseason cause a lot of holes in the lineup right now.

  • Win

    minus the defense.

  • Alaingrvis

There honestly isnt any lanes for Lin

  • Rick James

this is a practise game for both teams, seeing what works and what doesn’t. Let the coach experiment.

  • Vincent

then ets were making a run when the 2nd unit brought them back folllowed up with kenny letting lin play PNR, but now he doesnt seem to be setting many plays for him

  • Alaingrvis

Lin being doubled when he drive and who ever is open is missing

  • DX

God, so many easy ones have been missed by Nets.

  • Vincent

lin needs a steve novak type player who can knock down the 3 seemlessly

  • NONONO

4 Nets double digits, 3 bigs + Lin.

  • sport

At least he doesn’t charge to the rim and miss ugly shots. Scola can get to the rim and hit 3s!

scola is a professional, with solid fundamentals, very serviceable. No wonder he is still playing at 37 years.

  • kauaiblue

Why is jlin not playing pg?

  • heart

I am not saying that. I want Lin and Lopez play Pnr to bond and win in preseason. I don’t like the rotation or minutes thus far… in addition to the Offensive scheme. It’s off to me…

  • sws94

Vazquez and Lin are alternating PG/SG

  • Alaingrvis

    The offense is so telegraphed

  • Click Click

    Lin!

  • zxcvb

Just a terrible day for BKN bigs. Hamilton made some nice jumpers, but they got killed inside and could finish at the rim.

  • psalm234

Nice give-n-go between Vasquez and Lin.
    Lin 16pts!

  • Rick James

RHJ stepping up! Heat are killing us from the 3, and the nets defense is just god awful, the guys are running around like chickens. Lin can’t direct the guys fast enough.

  • zxcvb

He’s all they have right now.

  • Vincent

ironically they aren’t going to him more lol

  • zxcvb

Well, it’s preseason. Can’t stress that enough.

  • Rick James

Lin will watch the tape and see what works and how to improve the team.

  • Rick James

fat waiters, trying to injure our guys

  • blueCypher

    Is Lin done ?

  • sport

Some of these teammates are not passing the ball at all. Lin passes to them it’s straight to the basket for a selfish ugly miss!

  • Vincent

lin needs to just keep trying to attack

  • Vincent

    wouldnt be surprised

  • Alaingrvis

is there any difference from passing it alot then iso play or just iso play?

  • zxcvb

Don’t want to see him get hurt in a preseason game. That TJ “scare” was enough! Luckily, he’s perfectly fine but still.

  • Rick James

no need to work so hard in a pre season game. He has to figure out the team first.

  • Alaingrvis

People are passing the ball but it means nothing. Its not going anywhere.

  • Goodday

NO! he needs to facilitate and be the foundation of the team offense

  • zxcvb

They’re mostly making the right passes on offense, it’s just that nobody but Lin can hit shots tonight.

  • blueCypher

No injuries in a meaningless preseason game. I expect him to go all out once the season starts

  • sport

I see many iso plays where’s the ball movement and extra passes? Lin passes to them and they just charge for a shot?!!

  • Click Click

Dang, can’t believe Kenny isn’t allowing Beech to play at all.

  • Vincent

kenny is unbelievable.. lin is out already

  • Vincent

yes they are gettign crushed, but they need to develop some chemistry

  • Win

    Lin should rest.

  • Click Click

He played 24 minutes… most out of any Net.

  • zxcvb

Good! He’s getting star treatment. Stars don’t close preseason games.

  • sws94

It’s fine. Dragic is out, now the 3rd stringers are in. Lin played well.

  • heart

It’s the Offense scheme that KA is installing. Players are following KA’s instruction… It’s very frustrating to watch!

  • takeme2cruz

Because they’re competing among themselves for rotation.

  • sport

Not sure what he was thinking, If he wanted to “win” he should’ve left Lin in instead of waiting until the bench dug a 20+ pt deficit! Lin isn’t a miracle worker!

  • Alaingrvis

    Its so telegraphed

  • Click Click

Nets hit their shots in 1st half. 2nd half, not so much.

Bad defense was the main problem in this game though.

  • Maknusia

Kenny still has huge task on his hand to figure out the rotations….preseason game is the best to test out his theory/idea from the scrimmage that NETS had.

Real game test is important…Season gonna start soon,…new team with new coach…it takes time to mesh

  • Alaingrvis

Watching ther nets play makes me feel like they are a dance group a practiced the 1,2,3 before going on court.

  • TVN

Lineups are still experimental, so I won’t make a solid judgement, yet. Lopez is crucial to this team. He’s their only inside offense and only inside presence defensively.

The next game or the one after should tell us more.

There’s been too much iso, which just isn’t an efficient play for this team.

Whitehead looks like he needs D-League reps. He’s not close to being NBA-ready.

  • Spyckie

Fact is, Lin can’t play 48 minutes. We need other players to develop and right now we’re getting really valuable insight into the rest of the lineup.

  • Joe what do you know

Whitehead is playing his way out of the roster… bring Yogi in…

  • zxcvb

Whenever Lin takes charge, they’re winning. Whenever he sits or lets others attack…they get crushed.

Which is what we expected, but it’s still important to give everyone their touches.

  • zxcvb

No one can stop Whiteside inside.

  • Vincent

yes it is completely opposoite of what kenny wants

  • Rick James

guys, this is a brand new team, its not like the heat where the foundation is the same. Nearly half the players on the nets are brand new and the coach is observing the team, to see what works and what doesn’t.

  • heart

What is the point of allowing 20+pts lead w/o changing the strategy or calling time out, then returning Lin to the floor and pulling him off again? Coaches allow the momentum turn and players have to play from behind….

  • norah mackenzie

can’t we just clone lin instead? it would be less painful

  • Alaingrvis

This isiah whitehead guy is not ready. why do we have people dribbling who miss so ofton. RHJ is a defender and slasher. He should hold the ball for more the 6 seconds.

  • Click Click

Not just Whiteside. Nets had bad defense against the Heat overall.

  • james brown

you got it right, “IF” KA wants to win for the PRE-SEASON games, But he is not too high on winning or losing right now as they mentioned earlier ..evaluation of the roster is the priority for them.

so chill and just enjoy how JLIN games will dictate how Nets going to make it this season!

  • Rick James

Chris Mccullough and anthony bennet are doing great. EDIT, nvm, heat pulled all their main guys lol

  • Vincent

    who would start then?

  • Dan Ang

Lin needed to take it easy in this game. Sproelstra was game planning for Lin. LOL. Howard had Johnson D up Lin in the backcourt already.

  • sport

These teammates have just been passing the ball without moving which isn’t going to get them anywhere. Others just go for an ugly shot at the rim right when Lin passes to them! Not sure who those guys are but please cut those guys that are doing that.

  • sws94

The strategy is to test player pairings. KA is not trying to win, just see how some of the less experienced players play with the vets.

  • TVN

That guy doesn’t have a shot at making the roster. No sense in playing him.

  • norah mackenzie

lin in every position – he seems to be doing all the heavy lifting anyway

  • Briiick

Well said. Kobe without PJ would have used teammates’ missing as an excuse for taking the shots for them, freezing out everyone else.

  • james brown

its very obvious that most of the players want to be in the team so they need to showcase themselves, maybe at the expense of team win for the pre season

  • Alaingrvis

My issue with the offense is we have people who think create there own shot when they cant. I would rather one or two main ball handler

  • psalm234

    AB 3s are impressive
    3/5 for 11 pts

  • Win

Agreed. Long long way to go. Yogi is better.

  • Rick James

we need lins of different heights though

  • Maknusia

    shadow clone jitsu!!! 🙂

  • james brown

but at least give him his sweat inside for now..wh knows , he might be another player in the waiting for a chance?

  • Epie

Shouldn’t happen often once the roster is set.

  • Spyckie

RHJ worries me. A lot of expectation for him to start, but I feel like he is a net negative on offense. Booker worries me on offense as well. RHJ+Booker seems to be too much of an offensive deficit to overcome and neither have shown to be a lock down defender enough to compensate.

  • Click Click

Kenny said he wants to play all 19 players. He hasn’t allowed Mockevicius or Beech to play.

Again, Beech is from Florida and has friends and family there in Miami tonight. This game doesn’t matter and Nets are losing badly anyway. He should let him play.

  • psalm234

If motion offense doesn’t work since not too many can finish plays, I think Coach Kenny will adjust to use more PnR

  • grover chang

RHJ is horrible to watch. Lin builds a rhythm and pace to the offense. The rhythm carries over even when Lin sat on the bench. Then RHJ hurriedly rambles on and destroys everything Lin builds with his wild 1 on 3 drives to the basket.

I feel like Lin is the big brother and builds this nice sand castle and then RHJ is that four year old little brother that just runs right through it and destroys everything that was built.

  • cshot

    Preseason. Chill

  • norah mackenzie

can we done with his different hairstyles

  • james brown

sometimes, passing alone needs to be practiced!

  • Alaingrvis

ok then we got it no more scrubs on the cort. cant be losing by 20 every game. We cant learn anything from that.

  • Win

I am pretty sure we will see that in the preseason game. Especially during crunch time.

  • norah mackenzie

i thought that rhj is a good player – has he forgotten how to play or what?

  • Rick James

well, im more interested in his potential as a rim protector. Brook Lopez has looked totally inadequate in that role and will probably need a ton of help there.

  • Vincent

yes plus having them both on the floor clogs up the paint

  • zxcvb

Exactly. No freeze-outs on this team! Even when Lin “takes over,” he does so through ball movement. Doesn’t pound the air out of the ball like some other divas.

  • Alaingrvis

he better cant watch that much longer. geting lakers whiplash. Lin just playing on an island

  • Alaingrvis

Being asked to do too much

  • sport

Thank You! My thoughts exactly! Almost every player thinks they can create their own shot instead of making passes for open shots or just stands there when pass with no movement. Right now they remind me of the Lakers stands there and waits for the player to do “something”. Most of Lin’s shots were by himself.

  • Spyckie

people were high on him because he has great defensive stats in 29 games.

  • Rick James

that said, im still a bit worried about this team. Coach atkinson has a ton of work to do, obviously. Especially on the defensive side of things.

  • psalm234

RHJ & Booker need someone to create for them (Lin)
Motion offense is not too good for them. Maybe we’ll see Lin run some plays for them in the regular season

  • sport

Same here feels like another version of Lakers, if I didn’t know better I would think Nets are tanking. I hope Atkinson isn’t too stubborn about his “motion offense” cause it’s not working, they need more PnR asap!

  • Alaingrvis

They look like the lakers . very worried about this team. Lin look like kobe may need to start dominating the ball

  • Joe what do you know

I think Bog at SF makes more sense if RHJ can’t prove himself useful…

  • Spyckie

Yeah, motion offense is why I’m worried

  • zxcvb

Lin PnR alone can beat half the league, but to beat quality defensive teams, the Nets need to get the motion offense working. There’s still 15 days before the first game of the season…we’ll see how far they progress.

Interior defense is also a big concern, but there aren’t many Whitesides in the league luckily.

  • psalm234

    Expect low 🙂
I fully expect Kenny run weird lineups throughout the game.

Hope the last 2 games will resemble more regular season lineup

  • Briiick

Lin understands this better than everyone else. He kept feeding Asik despite his butter hands to quickly train him into an offensive threat.

  • Rick James

fine, they can each go with a different hairstyle. Afro, pony tail, mushroom, bowl and dread locks.

  • sport

No screens, players don’t move, Lin literally had to do those Kobe signature turn around jump shots to get his points!

  • Vintage

Yeah I was really happy to see that. This team is going to rely on 3pt shooting to lessen the burden on Lin. Things will open up once the Nets start utilizing Lopez and Lin together. I’m sure they’re working it out during practices.

  • Alaingrvis

do that the last game like the nfl. not now we need hemistry and to get used to each other. 1st game lineup was perfect last twp was terrible. keep one please

  • TVN

He’s really good defensively. That’s what he did in college. He was known as a defensive stopper. He’s been trying to create, which he’s not capable of doing consistently at this point. Problem is, he’s a poor shooter, too. Finding a role for him offensively will be tough.

  • heart

Yep, after three preseason games, one thing the coaches is sticking to is their minutes distribution and bland offensive scheme despite what’s going on the floor! It’s going to be a long season if this keeps up…

  • TVN

Yup. He’s just not good enough at this point to be a guy that uses possessions on offense.

  • Joe what do you know

Whitehead… 1 shot out of 8… with lots of forced shots resulting from unecessaty ball hogging… I don’t know how much longer I can stand watching him…

  • Rick James

the team is full of rookies that need a ton of growth. They will watch the tape and fix some of the basic mistakes they were making (hopefully) and be a better team in time for regular season.

However, as of NOW, the nets look like a 25 win team, at BEST. The people who predicted a 50 win season are probably hiding somewhere right now.

  • Click Click

Guys, I know this is a game thread and most people overreact in game threads. Not just here, but on many other forums and messages boards.

However, people really need to relax. These games don’t matter, Kenny isn’t trying to win any of these games, and he sat out Brook and Foye. All Kenny is doing is mixing and matching lineups, seeing what certain players can do with each other. If he wanted to win, he’d play the same lineups and not mix and match at all. He’d be playing Brook and Lin for at least 30 minutes.

  • james brown

    LOL!!!

  • Alaingrvis

Weve been on bad teams before(lakers) the preseason ofton shows you who you are

  • guest

Not liking other players bringing up the ball. They can’t create to draw defenders, lack decision making to make the right play, nor can go coast to coast. I hope we do not see other players bringing up the ball, when Lin is open. They need to pass to Lin so he can bring up the ball to actually Lead the team.

  • Joe what do you know

Yes no need to worry about the grand scheme at this point. It’s just that some players are painfully obvious needing to be let go at the end of preseason…

  • TVN

It’ll be interesting to what this team looks like with the rotation set and roles defined. Not panicking, yet, but it’s easy to see why the pundits are down on this team. The overall talent level isn’t high. They need to depend on scheme, synergy, and execution.

  • Spyckie

Don’t worry, he’ll be in dleague soon enough. Looks like he’s still playing college basketball

  • heart

Yep. I’ve been saying this since from game 1.

  • Rick James

We all need to learn to relax and be calm. This season looks like its going to get ugly so its better to practice patience and tolerance right now in the pre season. OO-SA. Here is a nice video of a beach, lets all stay calm.

  • Alaingrvis

or just put in the d league

  • CJSHYY

They played pretty good in game 1 what happened in game 2 & 3??

  • heart

Heat is talking about building chemistry, habits, and play to win even in preseason. Yes, winning gives you confidence to build on. Losing also lingers on your psychic. While Nets are doing what looking at whom to cut…???

  • Alaingrvis

hamilton is an offense player but if the other team has even a serviceable offensive center he cant play

  • Spyckie

Take out whitehead’s and RHJ’s usage and replace them with Brook minutes and this would be a very, very different game.

  • Alaingrvis

    lol

  • Joe what do you know

Whatever they do, please just don’t let them wander into my sight… lol.

  • guest

That’s why he’ll be a good back up to Lopez.

  • TVN

I’m not there yet with this team. With the Lakers, there was a sense of impeding doom. I still have a little hope for this team. Lots potential issues, but there’s still time and I don’t expect them to rank with nothing to tank for.

  • grover chang

I think the problem is that they all need to move in unison on a motion offense, like a team defense were everyone is attached together by invisible strings. One players move makes another player move. They should be tied together like an invisible NET, but when just 1 or 2 guys don’t know how to move the whole system grinds to a halt. Like you said, some guys go iso, hero ball and breaks the offense apart.

The motion offense is similar to Lin’s read and react offense in houston. When all the guys are buying in then the Rockets offense looked great. When Harden put his iso foot down the whole offense started to slow and plod along.

Kenny has a lot of work to either coach these guys on more fundamentals or just put in set plays with predestined cuts and passes. I’m not sure all the players are smart enough for a motion offense. They may need to be spoon fed a playbook.

  • Alaingrvis

One thing for sure. Lin will have to lead this group. Wax on wax off lol. They have a long way to go.

  • Rick James

    amen to that sister.

  • Spyckie

no real rotations yet. Looking at who to cut. Played a bunch of 3rd stringers out there, was hoping one of them would show NBA promise.

  • My Jeremy Lin highlights – Enjoy!

  • Rick James

great work! There is something wrong at the beginning of the video, the score starst 5-0 nets and then changes 0-7 heat a little later

  • Maknusia

Its given, the team doesn’t rack high against the others, hence their ranking/rating.

The thing Kenny, Lopez, Lin oughta do is to prove the league they can fight and better than the ranking and to give the home crowd some excitement and hope.

There are still huge holes and gap thats gonna hard to fill with the roaster we have, the team just need to play spirited and bring their best every single game, to stay in the game.

That aint gonna be easy. New team normally yo-yos, they would need time to mesh and understand the fundamental bound that NETS wants to instill

  • CJSHYY

OK…. I didn’t watch most of the 2nd half bc driving home…. Thanks.

  • kauaiblue

Totally agree. Jlin shoul be touching the ball and controlling play…

  • Alaingrvis

im a guy lmao but thx

  • Alaingrvis

It was worst that for sure but imagin the lakers but Lin is kobe. lol that more accurate.

  • Alaingrvis

    hahahahaahaaahhaa

  • grover chang

Guilty. Still holding out hope for 50. Lin’s winning percentage as a starter demands 50 wins.

  • Alaingrvis

One last thing scoring alot on a bad team is like scoring
decently(12-15) on a good to great team. Lin needs the game close enough
so he can go off. He also needs big games.

  • Vincent

we know lin is very capable. he did it for 2 weeks straight in NY with the knicks. he did it with houston and he did it a bunch in charlotte. all he needs is opportunity and gvien the chance to play his brand of basketball

  • sport

Watching highlights and love what I see between Lin x Hamilton! Hamilton’s 3s are good with Lin setting him up for pick & pop! Reminds me of a less selfish Chandler Parsons. Won’t mind if he starts. Truthfully hope Atkinson haven’t set the starters (besides Lin & Lopez) in stone yet.

  • sport

    Missed the 1st half thanks!

  • KL

I think Lin should stagger his minutes with Lopez so that Lin can play with Hamilton for stretches. Also Lopez can score without Lin.

  • sport

Lin definitely needs to help lead the 2nd unit they are horrible. Why not let Hamilton start over RHJ? Hamilton can hit mid range jumpers and 3 pointers.

  • David Kim

    This team needs Linsanity 2.0…

  • guest

Came in at 2nd half. Just watched first half. Nets will be just fine. Haha! I’m liking Scola’s hustle for a veteran big man. Bogdanovich will bring in some offense. Hamilton will be a great back up to Lopez. Kilpatrick finally settling down picking his shots.

  • Click Click

    Full game highlights:

  • sport

I like Brook look great on defense and offense. I think the best would be to start Lin, Scola, Lopez, Hamilton, and Brooker. They need 3 point threats to open up the space for Lin. Don’t really think Lopez would be the answer to that.

  • TVN

That 2nd unit got the Nets back into the game. In limited minutes those guys should be fine. It’s really more about role allocation within the starting lineup. I’m curious to see how they look with Lin and Lopez playing extended minutes together. So far, the offense has been equal opportunity, hopefully by design since it’s the preseason.

  • TVN

Hamilton is a stretch 5. He’s a nice player in a limited role, but a negative defensively and not a good rebounder. Guys like that aren’t starters.

  • Vincent

I kinda wish spencer hawes and marvin williams were on this team

  • sws94

Would love to have Marvin. Great teammate.

  • TVN

Neither of them are difference makers. Williams would have been nice for the PF spot, but he’s only good in certain matchups. No need for Hawes with Hamilton on the team.

  • heart

Remember D’Antoni pg offense helps. This is KA’s offense, a mix-match of Spurs & Hawks w/o pnrs and “equal offense opportunity” w/ many ball handlers and drivers to the basket.

  • Steppen03

    No Worries.
It’s preseason game. Stars on team are not playing at full strength. I have faith in Coach K. Other players are doing well given what time they have to run this new offense.

  • fungch1218

    Any postgame interview?

  • TVN

Kobe was actually the reason the Lakers were so bad, with his inefficient ISO-heavy play. Lin is Nets best shot at competing every night.

  • norah mackenzie

scola harris lin hamilton lopez bennett ( maybe ) booker foye bog – that back up vasquez and rhj are ??? wtf and whitehead and mc???

  • TVN

Not many Whitesides, but even guys like Valanciunas (who outplayed Whiteside in the playoffs last season) would dominate what the Nets trotted out tonight. Not to mention what Karl Towns or even Dwight Howard would do.

Brook Lopez is extremely important to this team. Him and Lin are the reasons I still have hope that the Nets can be competitive.

  • TVN

Brook Lopez didn’t even play tonight. Those Lakers were a team without a center, which is essentially what the Nets were tonight.

  • Click Click
  • sport

Looks like Nets were playing well against Heat 1st half. Then 2nd half was a disaster. Hope Atkinson really is just trying lineups and seeing who can play and who to keep.

  • joy

But that’s more effective for players who’re experienced and have chemistry, isn’t it?

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Man, I don’t think RHJ should be a lock starter..he’s too much of a liability on offense.

  • Vincent

In order for this offsense to work they need lopez on the floor as a threat inside. This will draw defenders leaving a man wide open to shoot the three. We saw it work all night against the pistons in game one. Also rhj needs the boot fromthe starting lineup

  • Spyckie

    Some post-game analysis:

    Offense:
    – 3 ball really thrives in motion offense. Lots of good looks from 3 from Bog, Scola, Hamilton, Lin, Harris etc.
    – Offense bogged down when RHJ and Whitehead touched the ball. A lot of inefficient, slow, ugly college level play. Wasted possessions and choked us out of the game early 3rd.
    – Bog & Skil do not create for themselves as much as I’d like them to.
    – Extremely telling that our 3 point shooting % is better than our FG%. That’s pretty much sums up our offensive game right there.

    Defense:
    – Really poor showing from everyone. Bad rotations. Lots of getting beat individually. No trust or team D – if anyone got beat, it was a free basket.
    – 2nd quarter was a bright spot for defense. Good quick rotations, good at anticipating what the offense was doing and actively preventing it. Went on a good run to take the lead. Also no whiteside.

    Player evaluations:
    – Hamilton can be used for offense. But he got manhandled by Whiteside defensively. He did a post up move and swished a 15 fter – was not expecting that side of his game. Looking forward to his development.
    – Whitehead told the world that he is heading to the dleague with his play. Hopefully we’ll take a look at him next year.
    – RHJ needs a lot of coaching on offense. He had some really ugly possessions.
    – PnR from Lin to Booker twice, but other than that I thought Booker did not look very good offensively.
    – Scola is crafty and dictates the flow of the game. He was the only big out there abusing their bigs, and he’s the oldest and slowest of them. Really shows how bad our bigs are.
    – Harris still looking good. sharp shooter
    – Bennett – if he can get open 3s and knock them down, he’ll be a great 3&D. It looks like he will make the team but in a limited role.
    – Bogs and Harris seem to have very similar games. Both sharpshooters. Harris is more active and energetic, but Bogs seems more of an intelligent player.
    – Vasquez – slow player who doesn’t seem to have any good tools to make an impact on the game.
    – Skil – has struggled to create for himself or others.

Roster Players that should contribute –
Lin / (Foye or Vasquez depending on matchup)
    Bog / Harris
    RHJ / Skil
    Booker / Scola
Lopez / Hamilton (Bennett depending on matchup)

This Nets team right now seems like a pick your poison, except in the negative sense. It’s pick what weaknesses you want on the court. I think matchups will be really important to manage for this nets team to remain competitive for the whole 48 minutes. If we can get the defense to be better, we have some offensive mismatches of our own that can cause trouble and give us runs.

    DLeague:
    Whitehead, CMC, Yogi

I think we gave enough of the Dleaguers their chance to make the rotation. I hope KA begins to focus on the players that can contribute this year.

  • sport

Exactly, I’ve seen enough college level basketball + ugly 1 pass ISO’s to the rim. By now Atkinson should know who he should keep and solidify the rotation for the last preseason games. That way everyone can gel, build chemistry, and be confident to win regular season games.

  • heart

D’Antoni offense is spread out and the pg sets up plays and decides where to pass to. Lin didn’t play nor had practice w/ his teammates prior to Linsanity. He set up easy shots for them and therein instilled confidence in the players. Except for Chandler, other teammates were rookies and backup strings that Lin helped to propel them to play their best. They knew their roles and stick to it. They knew Lin was the floor general to make decision to execute D’antoni plays. W/ KA’s offense, so far, the offense scheme is so bland, 3s or drives, no pnr. He’s allowing everyone handle the ball and thinks that they can create their own offense if they decide not to shoot. But so far, we saw that they can’t bc they’re being asked to do something that they don’t have the skills nor bb iq to make on-spot decision. So most of the shots they took ended up contested or out of their comfort zone… So this is also on the coaching not just the players. For the life of me why is RHJ in the starting line up?

  • Arsenium12 .
  • heart

Will KA see that RHJ needs to go? Sorry to keep harping on RHJ. But he needs more D-league training or slow down his game. His shot is always rushed or he’s afraid to shoot. Notice this… each time he gets a pass, he gets hesitant and would try to ball fake then drive and dribble to the clogged paint. The time he gets to the basket he can’t finish the basket most of the times, like 9 out of 10. Do you see the same?

  • aggressiveplayer

Didn’t Whiteside trash talk about Lin last season though? And Whiteside doesn’t look happy but Lin does.

  • KHuang

Nets have like 7 guys playing at an All Star level and 3 guys playing at a sub D League level.

RHJ, Booker, and Vasquez are playing SO BADLY, not even the Warriors would win with them playing their team leading minutes!!!

  • Click Click

He was frustrated that Lin kept getting foul calls against him and the Heat. He said Lin was flailing his arms and getting calls and that he didn’t know what to say / do about it.

After Whiteside, his entire team, and Heat fans whined to the league and media, refs started calling more fouls on Lin and gave the Heat more leeway to foul Lin without getting called for it.

  • Click Click
  • aggressiveplayer

Yea, so that means Whiteside doesn’t exactly have a buddy buddy relationship with Lin, as seen in this photo. More like a one way street.

  • blueCypher

Lin’s 3 point shot looks so good. It will open things up in the regular season. He is not going to attempt 10 shots per game, more like 20. It would be hard not to average 20+

  • Vincent

Yes i do not like rhj style. He is a 15mpg player max. Def no starter

  • Click Click

They’ve played in the D-League together, I believe, so they know each other from that experience. I doubt they’re buddy buddies. Lin just tries to be friendly with everybody and show good sportsmanship, even if the feeling isn’t mutual.

  • aggressiveplayer

Man… so many people who don’t like Lin yet he’s with open arms to everybody.

  • Steppen03

It’ll be hard for him Not to average 30+ points, imo. My highest hope is this season will be his MVP season.

  • blueCypher

For him to be MVP , I think they would have to win close to 50 games and make playoffs

  • Steppen03

That’s Exactly what I’m preaching… This Nets team grabbing 50+ wins. Perfect storm ?? I see do it!

  • spiderman

Don’t appreciate Lin’s photo over the caption:
    http://www.nba.com/nets/

  • blueCypher

    chill button bro. chill

  • DX

Usually Lin shoots more if shoot well. But he will change to pass or drive if shoots not fall.

  • psalm234

    it’s okay 🙂 it’s only preseason

Besides, TJ looked flabbergasted as Lin blew by him.
There was a blur of Coach Atkinson in the background.
TJ could’ve been a Nets but it’s not meant to be … at least this year

  • sport

Lin will get the credit the for the wins for this team so I’m fine with his face for loses. Unlike the double standard for previous teams. NBA.com is already pretty generous compared to ESPN.

  • spiderman

Too many of these loss photos in Lin’s past, even in a game Lin didn’t play!

  • sport

The team would have to have one of the best records for Lin to win MVP, in other words no.1 or top3 seed.

  • grover chang

Easier to guess the D players. RHJ, Booker, whitehead?

  • sport

Right now they don’t look like a 50+ win team sadly. I’d be happy if they get 40+. Their bench is just….bad. I hope things will be better once Atkinson weeds out the people he doesn’t want.

  • spiderman

Yeah really no big deal. It’s just odd to post a photo of team’s best player over the caption in preseason, when it’s obvious coach is just mixing it up. It’d just make more sense to post more of a team photo

  • KHuang

Vasquez was who I was thinking of.

Whitehead, he’s a full season of D league play before he becomes NBA ready.

  • sport

Yes also the motion offense seems to work well for 3 point shots. Only 3 games left, I hope Atkinson will have a set rotation and lineup. Also to start incorporating PnR. Because seriously we all know that is what Lin and Lopez are best at.

  • Steppen03

Ok, doesn’t matter. It’s not far from what I’m hoping. If the Nets can grab 50+ wins then JLin7 surely is a MVP to us JLin fans and the Nets fans even if not voted by the league. Can they do it ?? I have faith in JLin and Coach K. Nets players will follow suit and be inspired. I don’t expect a well oiled team until Mid-November.

  • Click Click

I’ve said and maintained that my realistic prediction is 33-37 wins.

40+ and playoff appearance is possible, but not likely… if they gel quickly at the start of the season.

People who predict 50+ wins for this Nets team are way too optimistic. People predicting under 30 wins are way too pessimistic.

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Agree that it’s time for Kenny to turn his focus on the the 9 men who makes the rotation.

Lopez needs at least 30 minutes in his next game.

  • sport

KHuang who do you think should start from what you’ve seen so far? Truly hope Coach doesn’t start RHJ I cringe every time he or another newbie aimlessly charges at the rim for an ugly miss without passing the ball. I’d take Scola as starter.

  • InfiniteWisdom

This game was a win in my eyes. they played all their players and we were missing brook (and foye), yet we were still only down 4 halfway through the 3rd. that’s when the starters sat, and in came the crappy bench. player evaluations for preseason game 3:

Lin: casually got 16 points and 5 ast. mostly in the 1st half. in the third looks like they were consciously letting the ball go through RHJ. 4th quarter was garbage minutes. looks like he was playing sg in the 4th. kenny just trying things out. the game was over at that point.

H&H: harris and hamilton… boy these guys are way underrated. going to be great role players off the bench and i wouldnt be surprised if harris shoots himself into the starters sooner or later. obviously hamilton cant guard whiteside but of course we knew this, cant hold it against him. this is where we miss brook…

booker: he played good again. good d, good hustle, he even got to the rim a few times. too bad he couldnt finish well at all. whiteside effect? maybe. but we know he is capable of monster dunks so im not worried. he’s more than solid.

RHJ: uh oh…. this guys stock is dropping by the second. he cant shoot. its painful to watch. he cant drive, his d is overrated, and what’s with the isos? in the 3rd we were running our offense through him and he was ball stopping. black hole. would get the ball and face up iso. brick… after brick…after brick… im confused….

bojan: hit some 3’s. had to play with bench. didnt get featured much. overall lookin good.

vasquez… uh i mean TRASHQUEZ…. enough said. cut this guy already. i dont care if it’s age or his injury… he’s NOT nba level anymore. speaking of not nba level…

Whitehead. i get it. brooklyn guy, played at seton hall, was 1st option and scored lotsa points there… HELLO! IT’S NOT THE NCAA ANYMORE!!! this dude is bad. not worthy of a 2nd round at all. cant shoot, fouls like crazy, cant handle the ball, this guy belongs in the d league or cut…

skilpatrick: im disappointed. why isnt he handling the ball more? he played well. hit some shots. he just isnt featured in the 2nd unit. why?

bennett: hit some threes. got abused by whiteside but he’s undersized so i give him a pass. worthy to keep investing in him for now.

scola: was hesitant on some semi open 3’s. got badly blocked early by whiteside i think. maybe got gun shy. everything else was solid. we gonna hafta rely on his old butt for solid play on the 2nd unit.

last thing: the defense is a work in progress. i can see what they are trying to do but their rotations, recovery, and close outs are too slow. too many wide open 3’s given up. this will only get better with practice and playtime. we STILL havent seen the reg season starters play meaningful minutes together. very hard to gauge chemistry right now. im “all lin” so we just have to trust kenny….

  • sport

Both Lin and Lopez need 30 minutes together in a legit rotation not this experimenting all over the place rotation. We’ve seen enough and I’m sure Atkinson has seen enough including the training camp.

  • psalm234

    Excellent post-game analysis.

I agree Whitehead, CMC, Yogi should go to D-League along with Mock, Beau, Jorge. Hopefully the D-League evaluations have completed as Yogi, Beau, Jorge got DNP tonight.

The Center position got exposed as noone can stop Whiteside 21pts/14rebs.
During regular season, Brook would need a solid backup but not sure if JHam or even Scola can fill that role.

Mock should’ve been given some time to see if he can be the rebounding machine, perhaps it will be next game

  • Arsenium12 .
  • InfiniteWisdom

glad we didnt overpay for tyler johnson. he didnt show much today and surely wouldve taken shots away from lin…

  • zxcvb

I like his game, but he’s not necessary. Wonder if the Nets could pry Ed Davis away from Portland.

  • takeme2cruz

With $60 mil, you better love his game.

  • sport

Love Harris and Hamilton they were the bright spots of the game. Many of Hamilton’s 3s were through Lin too so they go well together. I won’t mind if both of them starts. Hamilton’s pick and pop with JLin reminds me of Chandler Parsons not sure why but less selfish. That backing up on the defender and then turn around for a mid range jumper swoosh by Hamilton was impressive. With the limited talent they have I hope coach can try a starting lineup of Lin, Lopez, Harris, Hamilton, and Booker.

  • zxcvb

    Now that’s a “ridiculous” contract.

  • psalm234

I have the same exact thought about wishing for Ed Davis as the Nets bigs kept missing the gimmies around the rim. Ed Davis would’ve cleaned them up and scored a lot of points with his good touch.

But POR knows how good Ed Davis is. I doubt they will trade him but perhaps Lin can recruit him in his FA.

  • CJSHYY

Ya! I like Ed since Portland don’t need him that much…

  • Rick James

the nba is a brotherhood, they may not all be good friends but they all have history together in some fashion or another. Some are more friendly, some are more like enemies. Of course, in the end they all do what they have to do. Lin and whiteside are probably more friendly to each other. Melo and Lin is the other way probably. Harden and Lin are more friendly but they also have rivalry. I don’t think Lin has a really close friend in the league, perhaps Harden/Dwight are closest to that. The fact that lin moved so much from other teams makes it harder for him to develop relationships as well.

  • sport

With Lopez I think Ed would be redundant unless he’s coming off the bench. We still haven’t seen any PnRs between Lin and Lopez who is way more versatile as a C. I have a feeling this is coach’s ace card saved up.

  • zxcvb

Even 20mpg of Davis would make such a difference on both ends. Portland’s gotta move someone eventually — a lot of redundant players on that roster taking up tons of $$$.

  • zxcvb

That’s what I was thinking. They have, like, 5 quality PF/Cs on their roster right now.

  • Rick James

Lin needs Ed David or a player like him. Someone both smart and athletic. Brook may be smart but he is unathletic, he barely gets off the floor when he jumps and rebounding is almost nonexistant for someone his size.

  • InfiniteWisdom

booker? i think he’s solid. it definitely may be a problem having RHJ and booker together though… but we havent seen lin/bogs/rhj/booker/brook yet… it may work out, who knows… too many questions yet to be answered….

  • Click Click

Agreed with most of what you said, but would like to add that even though Booker had a pretty awful game, he did have 8 rebounds… which led the Nets. Booker just needs to put away baskets near the rim and make easy 5-foot jumpers and layups. I still expect big things from Booker this season, but so far, he hasn’t been good offensively in preseason.

Kilpatrick looked good today, so I don’t agree with you that he struggled to create for himself and others. He shot very efficiently with the limited touches he received. I also have high hopes for Kilpatrick this year. So far, he’s improved game to game. First game he couldn’t make any shots, but since then, he’s looked better and better.

Kenny and Marks are big on Whitehead, but I agree that he’s just way too raw and trying too hard to prove himself. His ball handling is bad, his defense is bad, his decision making is bad, his shots are really bad. I think he has the tools to become a good rotation player one day, but right now is not the time to be giving him so much hype and trust. I hope Kenny does the right thing and send him down to D-League instead of letting him ride the bench in the NBA as a 3rd stringer.

  • sport

Except now it’s different, coach saw Lin’s hesitation during 3s/shots so told him to fix it. Lin plays with confidence and no longer hesitates when taking 3s. Also this team needs him to be on the attack with the limited talents. Not to mention passing too much when his shots don’t fall becomes predictable and that’s when the ball gets stolen (TOs). We’ve seen that way too many times. Atkinson knows Lin’s game so well and I’m gald he spoke up about that weird hesitation. Lin did too many of that in past seasons instead of just taking the open 3s.

  • webattorney

Agreed. Brook is not a good PnR player.

  • Click Click

Very disappointed that Mock and Beech didn’t even get a chance to play in preseason so far. I want to see them show what they’ve got. Not sure why Kenny refuses to play them, even in garbage time.

Yogi has impressed me a lot whenever he’s on the court. He’s like a little ball of lightning out there and he makes good decisions and shots. His ball handling is suspect and his size can be a detriment on defense, but I believe Yogi has the most upside out of all the D-Leaguers we’ve seen in preseason.

As for Brook’s backup, I think JHam does fine in that department. Just don’t put him on the court with elite centers and he’ll dominate most bench centers out there. His defense was really bad tonight though and not just against Whiteside. He screened Lin, fouled TJ, and couldn’t make a block on TJ. Lin even pointed and told JHam to cover the driving lane, but he kind of just stood there and Lin bumped into him.

  • Click Click

He played well tonight. He’s a solid 6th man and/or backup PG. He didn’t take any shots or playtime away from Dragic, so he would’ve been a great fit with the Nets, but it was not meant to be.

  • Yura

I’m sure he is. Don’t worry

  • takeme2cruz

Yes I agree with wisdom, lin played very casual tonight. When season starts I think lin will be different.

Pretty sure Blazers’ GM Neil Olshey is pissed at Marks for the poison pill contract he gave to Crabbe. I doubt they’ll want to trade with us anytime soon.

Won’t happen until after the last game of preseason against Knicks on the 20th. They have a few days after that to make their decision.

  • sport

Not exactly you never saw Lin hugging Harden or greeting him whenever they faced each other.

  • Click Click

I like both uniforms, but the away / black jersey looks better in my opinion. Can’t wait to see the new alt jerseys soon.

  • sport

Whiteside texted Lin about that, could’ve been reporters twisting his words to stir up stuff.

  • sport

Brook haven’t even played any PnR during preseason. In fact he’s barely played at all. Playing him as a stretch 5 and motion offense is also affecting his performance. Lin have said so many great things about Brook that he can do anything. Brook is probably the most versatile center Lin’s played with. Ed Davis is pretty limited in his offense no range at all.

  • InfiniteWisdom

as of right now i would like to see this rotation:

    PG: Lin, Foye
    SG: Bog, Skil
    SF: RHJ, Harris
    PF: Booker, Scola, Bennett
    C: Brook, Hamilton

LeVert is a big question mark. everyone else doesnt deserve minutes. only garbage time and d league. and others yet like vasquez should be cut. give yogi a shot.

  • Yura

The other pic shows very defined muscles :> I think he looks the best in black/white uniform.

  • blueCypher

    Thats solid.

  • InfiniteWisdom

not for the price! lin still going to be the most underpaid player in the nba for the stats he’s gonna put up.

  • norah mackenzie

i think harris sd start over rhj

  • joy

When Lin’s being fully trusted, his hesitation’s gone and he plays well. That means he’s playing comfortably and enjoying it. 🙂

  • InfiniteWisdom

im still holding out on RHJ as starter. we need to see more. need to see if he can impact the game with defense, hustle, cutting to the rim, transition, etc. then it’ll be worth his horrid shooting. there was that one set play where lin passed rhj the ball on a cut under the rim. he got fouled so no assist for lin, but we need more of that, not rhj isos…. people keep comparing him to mkg, but i would love to see him turn into a player like aminu.

  • InfiniteWisdom

im optimistic. even though kenny is still experimenting with lineups, we’ve been in every game until he “gave up” by playing d league fodder like whitehead. even today we were down only 4 pts in the middle of the 3rd quarter with no brook and lin playing very casually. once kenny tries to win, we will surprise a lot of teams.

  • joy

“We weren’t desperate on defense, and we have to be. That’s the bottom line,’’ said point guard Jeremy Lin, who had 16 points and five assists but saw his Nets (1-2) ruin offensive efficiency with defensive impotence.
    http://nypost.com/2016/10/11/nets-give-a-season-preview-with-a-whole-lot-of-chucking/

  • InfiniteWisdom

imo beech is not nba material. the defense would be so bad with him, you’d think my avatar was coaching…

  • Joe what do you know

Agree with every points you wrote. Perhaps I would cut Vasquez some slack for his injury situation but right now he really does belong at the end of the bench.

  • Click Click

People keep complaining about the contract size of TJ and Crabbe. Marks had to offer that much to dissuade Heat and Blazers from matching. The contracts wouldn’t have been that bad for the Nets to take on, but for the Heat and Blazers, it’s bad. They still matched not because of what they’ve done, but the potential of what they’ve shown they can do.

  • Rick Johnson

Did Lin play with Bennett at all?

  • InfiniteWisdom

if his injury makes him THIS bad, then he needs to be 15th man, AT BEST….

  • Click Click

Why do people keep bashing Vasquez? He hasn’t played ball or trained for 9 months. Just because his shooting is bad for 3 preseason games, he should be cut from the team? Which by the way won’t happen because he’s already guaranteed for $4.3M this year… twice what Lin made last year. Some people are so quick to dismiss players in a short span of watching them.

  • Click Click

Who cares? It’s preseason and garbage time. Kenny’s played all other players some of whom are “not NBA material,” and said he wants to play all 19 players (which includes Beech and Mock).

  • gandychan

Hawes is a far bigger body who can provide good screens and defense. He also passes very well in the give and go with Lin

  • aggressiveplayer

TJ was an RFA. We had to have overpaid a little bit. And on a 4 year deal you can’t judge him based on his first year especially in a preseason game. We’re banking on his 2nd, 3rd or 4th year to really shine and make that 12m/yr look like it would have been worth every penny.

  • InfiniteWisdom

vasquez is slow as crap out there. you didnt see him getting blown by like he was standing still? sure he can still pass, but his shot is completely gone. he was terrible for the bucks, now he’s our reclamation project. and so far it aint looking too good. he should be pg injury insurance, that’s it. just let foye be back up pg, it’ll only be 15ish minutes a game anyways… think about it. if his injury is bad enough for him to be this crappy, if he needs time to recover just to be mediocre, why waste minutes on him? he cant help us like this.

  • norah mackenzie

i thought that vasquez was some big shot ? – i know he has had injuries but still not playing as a pg sd

  • Click Click

He’s not injured, why do you keep saying that? He had surgery in December and hasn’t been playing or training until like a month ago. He’s getting back into game shape with these preseason games.

If Lin, who isn’t injured, didn’t have surgery in December, and trained all summer isn’t going all-out right now, why would Vasquez? They’re all taking is easy right now in preseason, especially Vasquez, because he doesn’t want to re-injure himself and end his career.

You’re being extremely critical, short-sighted, and dismissive of Vasquez.

  • norah mackenzie

somehow i dont think lin and chandler are that friendly anymore. I hate to say it but i think cp is one of those ” fairweather” friends not solid

  • TTNN

That’s his problem not trained for 9 month, and he is slow, no one cares why he is slow. If he did not train for 9 month, and he is not capable of doing things, then he does not deserve a spot. If he could not defend, Yogi is better than him.

  • Steppen03

C’mon, guys. This is JLin7’s FIRST real team since NYK. Let us not bash any players on Nets until it’s necessary (still months to go). But let’s not bash at all – because it’s what we got and we just have to make the best of it. If you and I can see the negatives I’m sure the coaches can see them as well.

  • norah mackenzie

what the heck has rhj been doing in the off season then? he wasnt injured right? he sd have been ready

  • TTNN

hmm, I have totally opposite opinion. Tyler looks better than most of the guards in the line up in Nets other than Lin. Way better than Vasquez, Whitehead, Foye….

  • Click Click

It’s like arguing with a brick wall with some of you. I won’t keep repeating myself, but he’s not going to be cut, no matter how badly you and Byron Scott over there want him to be.

  • Steppen03

Absolutely Right!!! Why do we have to go all out in “meaningless” games when the REAL challenges are just 2 weeks away… I rather see the Nets do the unexpected – start winning right out the gate in the Regular season and go on a winning streak. These preseason games can go either way – go all out and prove something OR be patience, develop good habits, and build on team ball. We’re the “expected” lowest ranked team – why exhaust ourselves in preseason when we can do some damage in just weeks later.

  • norah mackenzie

can i ask why? i mean if he is supposed to be the backup to lin and he isnt playing his best? isn’t that taking a big chance esp since the regular season is starting soon – during this game lin was fouled twice what happens if he gets injured then ?

  • norah mackenzie

just asking and not dissing anyone – i thought the guy was supposed to be good but just confusing

  • norah mackenzie

so who can we bash? i vote for jennings and rose and noah – lol

  • TTNN

If nine month still not enough to get him back, a couple more days or weeks might not be able to help much

  • TTNN

Hamilton score for heats too. He tapped in a basket for heat, accidentally of course.

He can’t rebound, if he start, the team will be killed every game.

  • TTNN

Not sure where Byron Scott comes from for this discussion, the brick wall feeling is mutual. Nets is not even hitting the cap floor yet, a 4M contract is not a big deal.

I’m talking about his performance, he is slow, and he don’t play defense, scare to shoot. Don’t see why you want to keep him?

  • KHuang

    Disagree.

The 3 nonperforming Nets are RHJ, Booker, and Vasquez. And you, like Atkinson, are starting two of those SCRUBS.

Outside of those three, the Nets have actually competed very hard and are playing at damn near All Star levels.

It’s just that the team cannot overcome these three scrubs KILLING the team.

Not coincidentally, the Nets play their best basketball with these three loser scrubs off the court. And Lin doesn’t even have to play for that to happen.

  • KHuang

People keep bashing Vasquez because he is NOT PRODUCING.

This is the NBA which is a PRODUCTION league, not a feel good league. And right now the only people feeling good are the OPPONENTS who are EATING VASQUEZ ALIVE.

Just as we got mad that high producing Lin was benched behind undeserving nonproducing starters, we should be mad that Vasquez is not producing and playing tons of minutes that he has NOT EARNED.

  • KHuang

Consider ME part of the brick wall then.

Greivis Vasquez was a known injury risk, that’s why he was acquired so cheaply on a one year contract. It has been TWO seasons since Vasquez actually was healthy enouh to play.

The Nets gambled on Vasquez and LOST.

The way Vasquez looks out there, expect him to RETIRE MID SEASON.

  • KHuang

If this terrible play is how Vasquez plays when he’s “not injured”, then he should RETIRE ON THE SPOT.

  • KHuang

You’ll keep holding out with no return.

The athleticism, the court sense, the skills – NOT THERE.

RHJ is nothing like Aminu who has REAL skills.

  • KHuang

    But not for $50 million!!!

  • KHuang

He’s got a WHOLE TEAM of guys like that.

    Dump Booker, RHJ, and Vasquez

You’ll see 5 Ed Davises out there, even with Lin off the court.

  • 1mtoldman

well this forum has flipped on rhj for the most part (for example the poster you are responding to down the page agrees that rhj is not good).

originally i think it was just you and i who a. questioned how rhj could be elevated as some defensive god when he had barely played in the league and b. how having two zero offense players in rhj/booker would work as starters.

now i dont see any support for rhj here, tho pre-lin nets fans are still carrying the rhj banner.

i see some hope in booker in that at least he gets some rebounds. i mean i could live with booker in the starting lineup but rhj both in summer league and in pre season has thus far shown himself a. not a defensive stopper more like a defensive seive (veteran 13th man luke babbitt was destroying him) b. entirely incapable of any shot, his shot is not broken, he just never had one. c. a disaster when given a “point forward” role.

in sum: defensive superguy narrative is false, has no shot, is not a ball handler: the only thing i see he can do is periodically cut to the basket without the ball; i would make him the 11th or 13th man.

but thats not going to happen so my question would be: based on what you have seen, would you find him less of a liability at the 2 or at the 3?

    or does it matter?

or would it be entirely contingent on who was getting the spot he was not being put in?

  • 1mtoldman

i think he’s referring to iw’s whatever the little thing is called the picture next to where you post (if you have one).

  • 1mtoldman

vazquez has produced as an adequate backup in the past. but its been awhile.

thru injury or age or just decline what has been seen so far suggests to some viewers that he is not going to be capable of that again.

  • KHuang

I myself have never flipped on RHJ.

I said before the season started that this would likely happen, that he would be one of the weak links.

RHJ is a shooting guard who can’t shoot and a small forward who can’t go forward. In short, he’s NOT GOOD ENOUGH to play in the NBA.

It doesn’t matter where you play him, it’s gonna cause the team to lose. And it would be no different for the D League, let alone NBA.

  • BobbyH

    5M bet.

  • KHuang

These early Nets games show how TERRIFIC individual efforts by Lin and most of his teammates are BROUGHT DOWN by only 3 nonproducing players.

my first five Lin, Harris/Bog, hamilton, Lopez, Booker. Second five. Vasquez, Harris/Bog, Kilpatrick/RHJ, Scola, Bennett/or find a big that can rebound.

  • KHuang

    NO BOOKER OR VASQUEZ!!!

1st 5: Lin, Harris, Bogdanovic, Bennett, Lopez

2nd 5: Yogi, Kilpatrick, Budinger, Scola, Hamilton

Out of rotation: Vasquez, Booker, RHJ, Whitehead, CMC, Levert (injured)

  • KHuang

For a former starter who was a solid bench player pre injury, $5 million is a good solid bet on a guy who isn’t even 30 yet.

  • KHuang

JIMMER – but that has to wait until March.

Mario Chalmers is available, but he is post surgical like Vasquez and wasn’t even as good as Vasquez healthy.

    Yogi is ready.

  • MEL LIN

If they can find a player better than booker then ok. But for now he is the starter by opening night. Bennett would be lucky if he’s with the second five.

LOL you’re already calling everybody who doesn’t perform up to your expectations in 3 preseason games loser scrubs now. If this is how you and some others are going to react to losing 3 meaningless games, I can’t imagine how you’ll behave here when the Nets start losing games that actually matter during the regular season.

I used to enjoy some of your posts and ignore the crazy stuff you post KHuang, but this is getting out of hand. I hope you realize how unreasonable you’re being before you completely go off the deep end.

  • Click Click

Don’t bash anyone at all unless they’ve done or said something very negative to either Lin or the Nets.

I don’t understand why some fans here always have to point he finger, place blame, and harshly criticize Lin’s teammates. Would Lin say the same things about his teammates? This is getting very ugly with the way some are behaving here and totally against the spirit that this forum was created for.

Criticism is fine, but going overboard and calling Nets players nasty names and saying they should be cut or don’t deserve to be in the NBA is just wrong.

  • TVN

Looking at the Nets roster, Caris LeVert is potentially a guy that can be a really good two-way player for them but they are bringing him along very slowly. He probably won’t even play in the preseason and will likely play a few games in the D-League when he’s cleared. He’s their best hope for an impact two-way wing player. They traded a starter (Thad Young) for him, so he’s likely a big part of their “plan.”

  • TVN

Too much doom and gloom here based on preseason results. The Hornets beat the Clippers by 42 last season, but the Clippers were the better team and had a better record in the regular season. Sure, we all want the team to look good, but the Nets had a lead at the half. There’s a whole 82-game season coming up with Lin leading the way. That gives me optimism.

  • pero_square

I agree with you and Steppen03. I understand where you are coming from but some fans are just more critical in expressing their opinion when it come to individual performance. There’s a difference between bashing/degrading vs harsh criticism, and I think it’s okay to hold a player accountable as long as it is warranted. Where to draw the line I don’t know since everyone have their own standard(use of the word ‘scrub’ for example, which I am sometimes guilty of but I tried not to use it since it reflect badly on Lin fans IMO). Ultimately this matter is up to the mods to decide and police. In the meantime a little understanding and kindness toward each other would be great, let’s all keep an open mind because I am freaking hyped to see them play.

But from this site’s rule, Calling losers or scrubs are not appropriate. It may be OK in the other site as long as it is from pure bb point of view.

Thanks both of you bc we need both of you.

  • Yura

Just curious, why are they promoting RHJ? What’s special about him.

  • Yura

    Me too, Norah 🙂

  • occupatio

there was one play in which vasquez didnt even go out to contest tyler’s elbow jumper. it’s a lack of effort there that’s worrisome. perhaps he’s afraid that closing out will get him burned, so he doesnt close out — and this is just as bad.

  • occupatio

bc they drafted him (or, at least billy king did). in terms of salary management, that means they get to keep him on cheap contract for a while, and can keep his bird rights. draft picks are essential for cap management. and in terms of raw talent, he is athletic and very long, so has potential tools to be a good defender.

he’s a billy king pick, not a marks pick. so if his jumper continues to be bad — which it probably will be since his shooting form is fundamentally unsound — then marks will have to make a decision about him. a wing player who cannot shoot is a serious problem.

This would be my first 5 as well but I still want to give Booker a chance at the 4 because I’ve seen the potential for some nice pick and rolls with Lin so far. Khuang’s starting 5 though could definitely spread the floor and give Lin and Lopez the space to work. Imagine having Harris and Bogdanovic on the wings with Lin and Lopez running high pick and rolls.

Totally not impressed with RHJ. He reminds me of a more unathletic and unskilled Wesley Johnson (I will never forget Wesley Johnson shooting air ball after air ball during the season). Also, I hope the coaches have seen enough of Whitehead to know that he definitely needs to go down to the Dleague to gain more experience. He is not ready for NBA play.

Edit: I think Foye is good at the 2 as well because he can handle the ball at times to take pressure off Lin who could catch the ball on the wing and run pick and rolls from there. I’m interested in seeing more of Scola as well.

There are a lot of interesting combinations.

  • Brent Yen

  • KHuang

Oh, I’ll sound A LOT MORE unreasonable to you as I go along!

You go ahead, keep making LAME excuses for RHJ and Booker and Vasquez’s PISS POOR PLAY.

I’ve been watching the NBA too long to pretend that guys that cannot play will eventually learn how to.

Scrubs like RHJ and Booker and Vasquez, they’ll continue to miss coverages on defense and play scared on offense and get wrecked on both ends of the court.

You’ll see exactly how that plays out. YOU WILL LEARN.

    Edit:
    You’re NOT flaming me.

I enjoy your posts and criticisms of me!

  • Brent Yen

    Well, just 3 games….still a few to go…lol

  • Yura

    YUP! Lin and Lopez!!!!

Eliminate everyone else. They all SUCK.

  • KHuang

Not yet, but he WILL BE.

Lopez is adjusting to the fiercer faster Lin pace. He is too good a player to not eventually get into better physical and mental shape.

Right now, the Nets have a bunch of experienced veterans outside of Lin and Scola who are being greyhounded by the faster and harder pace of the youngsters. They WILL improve as they realize that their days of slowball are OVER – at least if we are not talking about the regressing RHJ, the unathletic Booker, and the soon-to-retire Vasquez who looks even more fragile than Steve Nash did in Lin’s Laker season.

  • KHuang

    NOOOO!!!

Lopez has the requisite perspective to adapt to a new situation instead of stubbornly stick with what worked for him in the past. It’ll take time, but I’m very, very optimistic.

Also, I hope everyone is noticing that Lin is making all the right moves out there, and making it look easy. It’s going to be so refreshing to see Lin not have to struggle against his own teammates to impact the game the way everyone knows he can. Things are looking up!

  • aggressiveplayer

It’s been great so far how no one on the Nets got injured yet. Could it have been because we were limiting minutes and not going all out? Most probably, and I’m thankful.

  • Alaingrvis

Ive been thinking why don’t Lin look like he did on the hornet and on knicks???????Its defense. Lin needs the transition game. Defenses are set when Lin touches the ball. Doubling him at times. He is for sure getting star treatment and is now the main focus of teams. He is still scoring but he has no impact on the tempo like in linsanity because we are only playing haif court right now. Nets haif court offense is pretty good and Lin is scoring well but that defense has to help a lot more. If nets want Lin to be Lin they must get their defense on track

  • norah mackenzie

mike conley got max from the grizzlies and so many big contracts but only jlin was talked abt

  • sws94

It’s only been 3 games. New coach, a lot of new players, and it’s a motion offense, not a PG-dominant PnR heavy system like D’Antoni ran. I agree the Nets need to play defense better, and that’s what pre-season is for. To evaluate player combinations on both ends of the floor. I also think Lin is trying to use his jumper and hesitation game more, and drive more strategically, but overall less. Hornets also mostly played half-court, they ran out under defensive fast breaks. Those will happen in time for the Nets.

  • norah mackenzie

i think he is doing a good job by himself tbh – but yeah very strange – and the same knicks chose rose and he hasnt even played enough games with his new team what a waste

  • Alaingrvis

I agree if he will be a starter for 82 games then driving Recklessly a ton won’t be that smart. Basically take what the defense gives you. unfortunately the rest of the nets have yet been able to take advantage of it. Atleast the last game. The first games was good. Fore did a good job of filing his spot

  • FreetheMind

Those announcers think basketball belong to blacks and the Asian guy is stealing their jobs. They can’t come out and say that outright, so they use Curry comparison to make their point. With Conley’s salary, no one should ever bitch about Lin’s salary. Those comments all have subtle racism all over them.

Game seems slower for Lin. I also like how he give high fives to teammates after they make a good play. He is teaching through positive reinforcement. You make a good play – you get acknowledge. You make a bad iso heroball play – nothing.

  • grover chang

After the initial disgust of bad basketball from RHJ and Booker, I’ve calmed down. I’m trying to tell myself that these two can be coached to play within their means to contribute to the team. I don’t want them to take away from the team. They need instruction and there is no better instructor in the league then thee Linstructor.

  • InfiniteWisdom

getting back to vasquez, how much benefit of the doubt are we gonna give him? should we wait till the reg season starts and have him give up leads built by the starters? i say we should nip this in the bud. give his minutes to foye who has already shown shot making, ball movement, and assisting ability. the second unit also needs more skilpatrick. he attacked the rim nicely in summer league, now in preseason he cant even get a touch…

also once levert gets healthy, i expect him and skil to be the guards in the 2nd unit. both can attack, handle, and shoot. vasquez should be injury insurance. if we need veteran steadiness, foye is enough. we dont need the vasquez reclamation project ruining lin’s break out season.

  • sport

Still can root for them to lose. D’Antoni knew what he was getting into and he’s getting paid.

  • sport

Lin’s been playing only 17 minutes with only a few extra minutes with bunch of random rookies minus Scola last game. What do you expect? Be happy when Lin’s able to get shots on his own without any help.

  • sport

According preseason game announcers Lin’s form is still a more traditional form caulking the basketball back before release. I remember Lin said he made the angle lower with less jumping (less fatigue) and more consistency. Curry’s form is one he invented where he releases the ball before he gets to the caulking position that’s why he’s so fast.

  • Spyckie

Benefit of doubt ends at preseason. Vasquez really needs to give a reason to be on the roster. If he can’t be quarterback for the bench, I think Scola needs step up and initiate plays for the bench – which I wouldn’t mind actually.

I see Foye playing with Lin similar to how Tony Douglas played.

  • sport

Another reason why Lopez and Lin have been playing minimal minutes. It’s preseason so better slowly increase their minutes while weeding out the players who are not needed.

  • InfiniteWisdom

the other big talking point is RHJ. i think we shouldnt jump to conclusions just yet. unlike the vasquez reclamation project, RHJ is a second year player who barely played in his rookie year. in short he still has upside, still has a chance to improve, still coachable. we should give him the benefit of the doubt. we need to see more. we need to see if lin can use his abilities as a weapon. give lin the chance to make him better.

also related, i see people criticize booker. now this is crazy. booker is solid as solid can be. we knew coming in he’s not much of a shooter, but he hustles, plays d, rebounds, sets screens, etc. the ONLY thing that can be said is fit with the starters. perhaps him and rhj together is too much non shooting. on the flipside, we havent seen lin/bog/rhj/booker/brook out there. perhaps there’s just enough of a balance between shooting and defense with that lineup. we simply dont know. hopefully this is what we will see tomorrow vs boston.

last related point is brook shooting 3’s and playing behind the arc. this is necessary imo because of booker. brook CAN hit the 3 so he will need to get with the times and space the floor. brook-lin pnr imo wont be as potent as we all had hoped. brook simply doesnt roll hard to the rim. i think it’ll be more pick n pop. after lin draws 2 defenders and passes back out to brook, he’ll likely b in triple threat position and will either shoot the open j or drive. i think the PPP off brook-lin pnr will be high, but lin wont get many assists cuz brook will often put the ball on the ground and drive which is a strength for him. instead of brook-lin pnr, we may get BOOK-LIN pnr. they already seem to have some chemistry, and booker sets good screens…

  • blueCypher

To be honest, I think they “rank” foye ahead of vasquez anyways. I really do not see vasquez getting heavy minutes in the regular season.

  • grover chang

I was disgusted by RHJ because I felt he was breaking the offensive system. My hope is Lin will coach him to play the right way. I’ve seen him do it with previous big men: Jones, Smith, Big AL.

Booker I found more annoying. I like that he was trying to play within the offense but he could not finish. I hope Lin could force-feed him plays better like that one PNR so he could score enough to not be ignored.

I never got mad at Vasquez, just sad that he could physically not do what he use to.

  • blueCypher

Is there an audio of the full interview that Foye did today ?

  • sport

Don’t have any problem with Booker but whether he should start is questionable he does give them more size advantage on d. RHJ is too iso happy and looked like a running trainwreck out there. In the end it depends on the coach but I don’t think he should start.

  • norah mackenzie

i think booker is a hard worker – and sd be given credit at least – vasquez just NO – and rhj another NO

  • norah mackenzie

when foye was playing in the game against the pistons he was feeding lin the ball imho and i think he really is worth it – he tries and moves

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Lin is still using a lot of legs and getting high before releasing it…unlike Curry who seems to release his shot as he jumps instead of jumping as high as possible and releasing.

So I’m not sure where the changes are…still the same traditional jump shot to me.

  • norah mackenzie

tbh the game against the heat lin was playing very casually – he practically strolled into the miami paint – and still scored 16 points – he got fouled though

  • Spyckie

RHJ – agree he is pretty much a rookie. I would love to see him develop an offensive game. He looks lost out there trying to create. That’s good footage for him to study and see what he should be doing and how he can improve.

Booker PnR with Lin will be interesting. There’s a ton of entertainment value if Booker gets those high flying dunks. Booker did a PnR with Lin twice the last game – the first time, he didn’t roll/wasn’t ready for the pass and Lin had to reset. The second time he rolled hard and got an easy pass for a bucket.

  • sport

Actually Lin used to jump way higher and the release was a lot slower. Last season you could definitely tell the difference when he just started changing it and it was a lot quicker. Look back at his previous highlights and you before Hornets and you can tell. It’s not like Lin’s going to copy Curry’s shooting form which is entirely different where the release happens before the ball angles back all the way.

  • knibb

    So what else is new?

  • Spyckie

Looking at some highlights of Brook Lopez, I don’t think he fits well with Lin as a tandem. This is not to say that he shouldn’t play with Lin in the starting lineup, but they should run two different offenses on the different sides of the court.

Brook is an absolute monster. He creates the majority of his shots for himself, and he does it on set defenses. That’s rare in the modern NBA. All he needs is good positioning in the paint and it’s a very efficient bucket.

Lin, on the other hand, helps others create a shot. His passing game is to find people who are open for a quick release or a nifty move to take advantage of the defense not being set (Landry Fields comes to mind). Hamilton fit very well with this style because of his shooting and his knack for getting to the right spot.

A Lin to Lopez offense is kind of a waste because Lopez doesn’t need Lin to create a situation for him to take advantage of. It can still work but I think it’s not optimal.

This is just theory crafting, but a Lopez Bog 2 man game on one side of the court is interesting. Lopez can occupy the low block, with Bog drifting at the 3 line. A PnR with Lin and Booker early in the shot clock can create a lot of pressure, and they can transition into a Lopez low post play.

I don’t really see a place for RHJ in the offense yet. Ideally you want another shooter who can fill a corner and keep defenses honest. Foye?

  • james brown

i saw that jlin jumper shots were more faster than before.(looking at it makes me think that its a LESS thinking now and a MORE confident shooting thoughts that are flowing on his brain when he makes the shoots)

  • Yura

    Thanks!!

  • sport

That’s why I suggested starting Hamilton, his 3s and mid range turn around jumpers are golden especially when playing with Lin. Either way it’s best to stagger Lin and Lopez’s minutes so they can have their own offense in stretches. Even Lebron and Wade’s minutes were staggered with Heat with both taking turns leading 2nd unit. For this team it’s even more important since the bench is so weak!
Not sure about Harris but he’s another one fans like.

  • your son’s legendary voltaire

he should be thankful for even breaking into the top 20

  • sport

Doesn’t even deserve to be on there lol.

  • InfiniteWisdom

i think the offense is going to be very fluid. that’s why i noticed right away booker is the guy setting screens up high for lin while brook occupied the corner. it makes sense. if brook is spacing the floor on the weakside corner, he can easily step in and post when the ball is swung to the other side. and like i said before, the brook-lin pnr wont really be a pnr but a pnp where lin can draw defenders and give up the ball to brook in triple threat. he can shoot or he can drive. this will wreak havoc on guys like gobert or whiteside. brook driving on a big who had to help on lin? they’re caught in no man’s land. we just need to see it to believe it, but brook is so versatile it’s gonna work. will be like lin to tyson or ed? high flying alleys? no… we as lin fans are just going to have to accept it’s going to be different. he wont get easy assists like that, but for the team, it’s a good play, lin helps set up brook doing what he does best.

  • InfiniteWisdom

whiteside abused hamilton. no way. brook-lin connection will be different but effective. you cant ignore lin coming off a screen. he’ll draw defenders and set up brook for easy shots that he can make (NOT like jordan hill or boozer ugh) or brook driving on a recovering big. no assist for lin, but points on the board. all that matters is wins…

  • InfiniteWisdom

yep. also of note was the RHJ cut under the basket where lin fed him. RHJ got fouled so no bucket and no assist for lin, but these are the kinds of plays i forsee RHJ being elite at. the kind of plays lin and landry had. baseline cuts leading to dunks, etc. we just need more time for them to gel.

  • aggressiveplayer

Guys, I know we’re disappointed in the losses of the preseason and people are bashing on players like RHJ and Booker, but I have reason to believe we’re just testing out some things and not really playing to our full potential. I think the game will look much better as we start rolling in the season. This process definitely won’t look great right away. We’re going to look bad but I’m glad we’re making all the mistakes now and the team can continue to improve.

  • InfiniteWisdom

i get the feeling the second half is used for experimenting. RHJ always suddenly becomes the main focus in the 2nd half just like he got some time as point forward in summer league. no wonder we had 3rd quarter collapses. kenny isnt trying to win in the second half. brook has never played past halftime, RHJ plays point forward, guys like whitehead get minutes, etc.

  • InfiniteWisdom

and booker just had trouble finishing. he’s undersized vs whitehead so yeah… i have faith in him vs most other bigs. remember all the steal and break away dunks he’s had in only 3 preseason games…

  • Arsenium12 .

During Jeremy’s interview with Vincent Cunningham, of the New Yorker, he gave a heartfelt and insightful response to the question “How was your time being coached by Mike D’Antoni?” Here is what he said :

The one story I remember the most from that whole Linsanity stretch was … . I remember we had won seven in a row and had just lost one to at that time the New Orleans Hornets. I think I had eight or nine turnovers, my career high in turnovers, and I was just so disappointed in myself. The streak ended, … we lost, we were in the playoff race. And I remember my phone rang – and I didn’t know it was him at first – but I picked it up and he was like “Hey, this is the coach.” [I said] “Oh, what’s up?”

[He said] “I wanted to talk about tonight. I just wanted to let you know that I don’t care about tonight at all.” He was like “Next game, if you get 15 turnovers, it’s great, go get 15 turnovers. I don’t care how many turnovers you get, I just want you to keep charging and attacking the basket, and making plays.
If you get 15 turnovers next game you’ll probably get 30 assists. I don’t care. Keep playing, keep attacking, and keep being aggressive.”

And I can’t tell you just how much that changed my mindset because I was really still in a fragile mental place, where I was still trying to please everybody and be this player that everyone wanted me to be. And that was my first real hit from Linsanity, where it’s like “Man, it’s your first really, really bad game. How are you going to respond?”

And when I heard him say that … . You don’t hear a lot of NBA coaches say ‘Go ahead and get 15 turnovers.’ Actually, he’s probably the only NBA coach who would say “Go ahead, get 15 turnovers. I don’t care.” But to me it was the ultimate empowerment, the ultimate green light, saying “I trust your game, I trust your instinct, I trust your talent, and just go hoop.”

He’s played himself so he knows that’s when players function best – when they’re in a zone. When you’re in a zone you’re not analyzing “Should I do this or that? Should I shoot, should I not shoot? You’re just in a zone. You let your talent take over. And that’s what he was all about. That to me was like “Man, I want to find a coach like him that I can play for, for the rest of my career.”

  • InfiniteWisdom

god i hope so. i dont care why, but the dude has lost everything that made him relevant. he’s a shell of his former self. why do WE have to be the ones to suffer through him trying to get back to what he was? we need the nets to quietly contend. we need for lin to lead the team to WINS. vasquez, however little, takes that away…. give his minutes to foye/skil until levert can have a shot.

  • InfiniteWisdom

for me, i want to see the starters get minutes together vs real competition. does kenny even know who he wants as starters? too much experimenting at the expense of chemistry? can we have the 1st half as a real game simulation and 2nd half as tryouts? too many questions unanswered… i know “nets fans” are only interested in “development” but i want to WIN, and win NOW!!!

lin is in his prime. he’s fixed his shot. he’s ready. dont let “development” be the step just above “tank”.

  • Vincent

i would love lin to play in mda’s offense again, but i want him to prove he can stil be a super star without mda

  • joy

Now he’s playing for the coach who trusts him even more. I hope Atkinson is capable to extract Lin’s full potential and take him to a much higher level.

  • kauaiblue

Ok to root that their current pg cant handle the dantoni offensive.scheme… and that you need a special pg to run it…

  • kauaiblue

Anyone know if our.boy is playing tomorrow?

  • sport

It’s whiteside, questionable whether Nets have anyone who can go against him. Best to get him in foul trouble by going to the rim. Lin can also set up Hamilton for 3 pointers or pass the ball for his to back on on the defender for a turn around jumper. They can always switch on defense and have Lopez and/or Booker defend Whiteside. Lin, Lopez, Booker, Hamilton, Scola could be a great starting lineup.

  • joy

“I have to use the word process,” Atkinson said. “We think if we’re doing the things we need to do, the way we want to play, that the results will happen. But the ‘Win one for the Gipper’ and ‘Lets go, rah-rah,’ that’s not our style as a staff.

“When the ball is thrown up, we’re going after the win. It’s stating the obvious. … These guys are [saying] ‘You’re going to state the obvious? Coach, help us. What do we need to do to get better?’ ”

  • Steppen03

That’s a real powerful story of MDA’s belief in Lin. I think Atkinson can hold his own with MDA – meaning I don’t mind either one. Playing under MDA and become an All-stars or even MVP is not going to distract people. Coach doesn’t create talents – he just bring them out of the shell. Nobody is going dispute Nash, Parker, Ginobili…

  • kauaiblue

    Awesome… gotta love dantoni…

  • Steppen03

SPOT ON!!! Can’t improve if there’s no mistakes along the way. We can’t expect everything to click and everybody are “ready” to battle. These things take some time. Hopefully, they’ll be more ready by the 10/26. I trust in Atkinson & JLin – will bring more “Fields, Novaks, and Jeffries” out.

  • sport

It was obvious last game. Nets were winning 10+ 1st half and then Atksinson changed the entire lineup with Lin only coming back when the game was lost to see what he can do with the newer players.

  • joy

The Nets will be playing against the Celtics at the Barclays Center tomorrow. I’m sure our boy will be playing. 🙂

  • sport

Nets have talents that are better than what the Linsanity Knicks had for sure.

  • joy

I hope so. IMO the main thing is the trust/respect and the mindset from your teammates. During Linsanity, though Lin didn’t even have chances to practices with those guys before, they showed trust & respect and gave Lin full support. I’d like to see that same kind of bond in the Nets soon!

  • your son’s legendary voltaire

bravo! was saying this all along about most NBA coaches. they’re just cheerleaders on the sidelines. and then there’s real coaches like Pop, MDA, and Atkinson

  • your son’s legendary voltaire

it’s ok. if MDA loses his job, he can always become Kenny’s assistant coach

  • joy

I hope MDA won’t be demoted to be an assistant coach by Morey when they don’t get into playoff. 🙁

Vasquez is coming back from injury. His bad play could be attributed to this.

See, that’s why I said Hamilton can potential start since he can play as stretch 5 or 4 position as PF. That way Brook Lopez won’t be forced to play stretch 5 which isn’t his strength. For next game I’d like to see Lin, Lopez, Hamilton, Booker, and Scola starting.

  • sport

Technically Atkinson was the one who trained Lin during offseason and believed in him before MDA during Knicks. Either way Lin’s returning to what originally got him there. Though we have yet to see whether Atkinson is a better coach than MDA.

  • Brewkowski

Though this is preseason, it’s exciting seeing Lin play with extreme confidence and as acknowledged leader. In the 2 games, his play was controlled and smooth, unhurried.

It’s fun watching the different player combinations and seeing who’s more effective than others. New front office, coaches, system, players… it’s all a learning process for everyone.

Let’s continue to cheer for Lin and the Nets. Unfortunately a few players will not make the team so let’s cheer for all of them to succeed. Critique but not bash, let’s be supportive of Lin’s teammates.

I think Lin will help the team grow and gel together on and off the court in new and different ways. It’ll be a great new adventure for all of us.
