Jeremy Lin Rocks New Hairstyle, Tamed the Grizzlies

Jeremy Lin was sensational to spark a comeback when the Hornets dug a deep hole with 0-10 He checked in at 11-24 with 4min left in the 1st quarter and sparked a 18-11 run to cut the lead to 29-35 By half-time, Hornets finished the 48-20 run to have a 5 pt lead (59-54) JLin had 15pts, 4-7 FGs, 2-4 3-pt FG and 5/5 FTs in 16 min.

He finished with highest +25 16p/2ast/4redb/1stl/3blks/2to in 26min.
His 3 blocks is his season-high record. Only Marvin Williams and Hansbrough had 1 block each in this game.

Jeremy Lin strong defense and offense were evident in giving him the highest +/- at +25 in this game If this new #LinEnergizer hairstyle is working, perhaps it’s a keeper!

Not right at all. Bemba scored a lot and the numbers are good but Lin came in and turned the tide in a big way in the 2n half. But I don’t expect much from BSPN.

  • GoJLin!

I don’t mind they say KW got highest score, but “put the team on his back”, gi, that is too heavy for him!

  • Hope

20+/10/30+ would be right on if it wasn’t a blowout. Uhhh.

  • Hope

He’s heating up now and he knows it.

  • Lin Win

Welcome to NBA! No one cares about that.
    Stats talk!

  • zxcvb

Playing with Lin makes Kemba look elite…and the stats back this up. That’s good for Kemb AND Lin.

Clifford will be forced to let Lin play SG, if only to make Kemba look better. Remember, Lin only played 27m tonight (Kemba played 35m) and we all know Lin backs down in blowout wins. Yet he filled the stat sheet and got 16p on 10 FGA.

I don’t see Lin staying with this team after the season, but if he keeps getting this treatment from Clifford (and his back fully heals), his stats and PER will go way up and so will his reputation on a winning team. That paves the way for an MDA reunion next season, or at least a much better opportunity to start for a weak East team.

  • Hope

Oh yeah oh yeah I like it …

  • zxcvb

“Be like Mike and shave your head.”

  • Yes, even from the latest article by Adi Joseph, Lin emphasized his Linsanity game is made possible by having the ball in his hands.

If JLin and Kemba can start & co-exist to orchestrate offense, that’s 1 scenario JLin will stay.
    But it’s a small lineup.

It’ll be interesting to watch what the Hornets will do to try to keep JLin

  • CaliUSMC

Didn’t catch the game. Did lin score only a point in the 2nd half?

  • blubell

  • zxcvb

Being in 2nd place is pretty amazing too, even with all the teams being close together.

And he knows that if he were used like this against CLE and ATL, the Hornets would be in first. He’s really proving his point: “PLAY ME COACH.”

Even with his shot a little off (back/rhythm), he’s the difference between losing close and winning BIG. Charlotte loses tonight without Lin leading that huge 1st half comeback — starters sucked until Lin came in.

  • NONONO

three bald guys in the pictures vs Lin’s 3 hair styles in 3 games.

  • lol .. that’s too much pressure
better some hair left to distract opponents

His hair will be in the game plan soon!

  • I just realized that @hornets put up a new franchise-high 18 3pt field goals in 123-99 victory over the Grizzlies on 12/11/15. #HistoricMoment

  • Rzo Vlade

    meh already blow out

  • CJSHYY

Unless w starting PG otherwise I don’t think he will stay….

  • NONONO

Grizzles seems good fit too. Imagine Lin and Gasol PnR?

  • blubell

He helped the Rockets with this record and now the Hornets. Jeremy always making history wherever he goes 🙂

  • Hope

No. They can’t run with him.

  • CJSHYY

    They like him.

  • zxcvb

I think Lin only stays in CHA if:

    1) MDA cannot get a job next season.
    2) Batum doesn’t resign.

If those two things happen, then Clifford may let Lin play SG next to Kemba like Bledsoe (6-2) and Knight (6-3) in Phoenix. Right now, everything is about convincing Batum to resign as starting SG next to MKG.

  • blubell
  • If it’s dual PG, he might stay but not as SG
In modern-game, multiple playmakers will be good

  • joyce ward

Okay, I take back my Bonnell bash. Nice headline Jeremy Lin led the bench as Charlotte Hornets’ saving grace Friday http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nba/charlotte-hornets/article49395460.html

  • cdblue10

I didn’t see the game but congrats to Jeremy and Hornets…Big game for a big time player.

  • Rick Johnson

Why did Cliff play Kemba so many minutes in a blowout? There is a B2B against Boston tomorrow.

  • Hope

    Lol,

  • I think you’re right.
I forgot about MKG. Batum is slotted as SG next to MKG as SF

Ideally, Lin, Batum would have more chemistry but Hornets is fully invested in Kemba who’s a great scorer but a playmaker. I wonder if any teams will take his $12M

  • Hope

He tries to wear kw out. NOT.

  • CJSHYY

I believe Hornets did talk to Lin… but so far I don’t think he will stay… I think Lin will get more teams interested in him next summer bc his game can help team win. Bulls & Mem all like him.

  • joyce ward

I think it’s all about stat padding for the All Star game.

  • occupatio

really good write-up by bonnell. respect.

  • heart

For All-Star stats. For Coach vote’s justification if not voted in by fans.

  • cdblue10

He’s a closet LOF,he just want Kemba to wear down come playoff so that Lin can steer this team.

  • zxcvb

I agree. The funny/sad thing is CHA is in for a rude awakening if/when Lin leaves.

They’ll be saying, “No problem, Kemba is a BEAST now!” And then he’ll revert to the mean when Lin leaves. Stats already show Kemba is waaaaay better when Lin is on the court.

Frankly, I think Batum will probably (but not definitely) ditch CHA regardless. He doesn’t want to be in some small Southern town if at all possible and other good teams will offer him max/near-max.

  • blubell
  • joyce ward

Yeah, I think they want to keep lin now. LOL

  • CJSHYY

They can be like Sun w both PGs on starting lineup. I guess that’s what Cliff tried to do now… today just let Kemba knows w Lin you can still get the ball & score.

  • maybe Lin and Batum can team up somewhere else in big cities?
    Lakers, Nets, Bulls, etc.

  • zxcvb

“Win marks 6th time this season Lin has saved the day in limited minutes after starters dug an early hole.”

  • CJSHYY

They tried to make him into ASG. They asked fans to vote for Kemba.

  • Acbc

This is what I’ve been openly questioning about Clifford. Human resources are limited. Players will always feel invincible. They’ll always want to stay on the court. A good coach will make that player sit because that’s what’s best for him AND the team.

Again I must ask how intelligent Clifford is? Is his hands tied by FO meddling, or does he have no control over his stars?

  • it’ll be fun to dig the +/- in this 6 games =)

  • leeda harun

The BF 1 did it. Of course thanks to lin leadership 🙂

  • “showcasing” a lot of 30+ games for All-Star?

  • joyce ward

I think other teams will not be honest, and I think lin will always choose where the best is for him and let God workout the rest of it

  • zxcvb

Eh. Batum isn’t great at sharing w/ Lin. Better than earlier, but Lin is better w/o him. Stats already show that any lineup w/ Lin + competent player is the best two-man combo for CHA.

Lin is the magic ingredient. CHA was heading for a blowout loss until Lin came in. And then Kemba stat padded to make it a laugher.

Maybe Lin and Ed Davis can reunite. And Novak too! Great 3pt shooter and teammate.

  • Hope

B2B game. Will Lin go linsanity once again?

  • occupatio

maybe some folks can write to NBA. get that assist from lin to walker counted. memphis scorekeepers didnt credit lin for that.

  • cdblue10

Let’s just hope that this team will reach the playoffs,I wanna see him on big time moments, good players are built in regular season but the best one will rise in big games.

  • heart

I’m surprised you have not noticed that Cliff did this for All-Star voting. And Cliff will continue to do so until Hornets are certain that either KW or NB or both gets voted into All-Star.

  • Acbc

The last sentence should be “has overcome deficit of 10 or more to Lin”.

  • zxcvb

I’ve written to them about that before and their official response is: “Assists are ultimately subjective and the decision of the scorekeeper.”

So basically political BS. Any other PG gets that dime easily. I’ve seen CP3 get 3-dribble 20ft jumpers as assists! But Lin gets cheated for at least 1 assist per game.

  • blubell
  • CJSHYY

    I think Batum will stay…

  • occupatio

    ultiamtely objective or subjective?

they are obviously subjective in many cases. which word did nba use?

  • CJSHYY

Hornets will & also top ranking.

  • InfiniteWisdom

amazing game. first off, yall have to give props to kemba. he’s been playing great and this game he was so hot from 3. batum was his usual good self. did lin turn things around in the 2nd? yes for sure. but kemba and the starters finished them off in the 3rd. anyway, did you noticed how lin played pg and kemba was sg for a few possessions? and lin got more touches, no corner standing while playing with kemba? i think things will turn around. cliff got them memo. after he started playing lin more than lamb, we’ve been blowing out good teams. coincidence? i think not….

  • zxcvb

Possibly. But MKG is not Hairston. He will take a bunch of Nic’s shots away whereas Hairston barely shoots at all. Other teams have their SF handling the ball a ton, so there’s nothing to be lost.

Also, Nic already sent out feelers to Toronto via his agent. He’s a cosmopolitan Frenchman. Southern USA is the exact opposite of his ideal city. And as long as he gets paid, leaving CHA is no biggie.

  • Joe what do you know

Yeah yeah blah blah…. and it’s all because Kemba put the entire team on his back isn’t that right??

  • CJSHYY

Ya! Really surprised to see Lin can be PG w Kemba on court w him. That’s good progress..LOL!

  • cdblue10

Hornets need to incorporate Hansbrough more on the floor ,a player like him is always very important come playoff time.

  • zxcvb

    Subjective. I mis-typed before!

  • Briiick

Well said. Actually I think they were in for a rude awakening after watching KW got exposed by Curry so badly. They thought they could do whatever Lin did in the preseason games with KW until they got hammered hard and had to court Lin again in the recent 2 games.

  • CJSHYY

They had interview w Batum. When asked about stay …? Batum said why not? … I think he will.

  • occupatio

yeah, in context it only makes sense as ‘subjective’

  • zxcvb

    “Why not?” That’s so non-committal.

Can you imagine if Lin was given MDA-level freedom like Batum is getting? He’d say, “Absolutely, I want to come back. No doubt!”

  • Lin Win

I know Hornets having MKG over PJ is a huge upgrade but does the Hornets need Al Jeff?
We’ve blown out 3-4 teams without Al already and Cody and Frank are improving.

  • zxcvb

Definitely. They really got exposed by the Cavs and Warriors.

CLE is totally beatable but they lost an easily winnable game by benching Lin. And GSW is obviously amazing, but Kemba got hilariously torched by Curry like no other PG this season, en route to a crazy loss. Even BOS and BKN played GSW close!

  • Acbc

The white elephant is Kemba. He’s in the way of the Lin express. Batum and Lin would be like Jordan and Pippen.

  • zxcvb

Very gritty. Memphis loves to be “physical” and Tyler gave them a taste of their own medicine.

  • Briiick

Agreed. Batum is not fully committed because Hornets are putting Walker above him now. That partially explains why Lin got more role and PT in recent games, because Hornets are beginning to hedge their bets, neither of them is certain to return next season.

  • CJSHYY

Pete did follow Nathan so he probably passed the tweet to Bonnell….LOL!

  • CJSHYY

There are more… bc coach likes & trust me… org….

  • InfiniteWisdom

al can help. he just needs a reduced role. like he should almost never close out games. his d just isnt conducive to wins.

  • occupatio

ive said the same before as well. pyscho’s value will increase in the playoffs, when range of matchup options becomes so important.

What? MDA will agree? They just signed the extend contract w the coach?

  • jeremy

    get out
MDA deserves to be the full head coach

  • Acbc

BS ” subjective decision means “conformation bias”

“In psychology and cognitive science, confirmation bias (or confirmatory bias) is a tendency to search for or interpret information in a way that confirms one’s preconceptions, leading to statistical errors.”

They just can’t believe what they see. Lol

  • jeremy

Al is still a very good player

  • CJSHYY

Ya! Why not just sign him as head coach?!

  • occupatio

he is much worse than his individual boxscore shows.

  • Acbc

Bye bye Hornets. “Elvis has left the building”….too little too late.

  • occupatio

i dont think hornets would trade lin even if philly wanted lin.

unless philly gives up assets, and im not sure they would. hinkie.

  • David Kim

    one first round pick?

  • occupatio

sixers havent piled up picks, esp 1st round picks, just to throw them away on a half year rental.

  • Acbc

    Second year, player option.

  • occupatio

yes. point is, it’s not happening this here even if it does happen.

  • Briiick

Current coach is a yes man. But if Lin is offered a 10+M/year contact while MDA is getting hired there, I say take it !

  • takemeback2reaganyears

This is a more exciting news than tonite Lin performance.

  • Hope

    Wow

  • CJSHYY

I think so also cheap. Now they want to sign MDA cheap but full work for their O system..

  • occupatio

let us suppose that dantoni gets the job this year annd bcomes head coach next year.

a lot could still happen by then. for example, philly signs another PG instead of lin. or they draft a PG.

while it would be nice to think that dantoni would insist on getting lin, he would certainly consider other options. i dont know whos available next year in free agency, but just saying.

  • blubell
  • Hope

City of brotherly love, lineup to welcome the better version of linsanity 2.0.

  • sws94

It’s an assist in my book and a beauty. He was shortchanged.

    It’s really happening.

  • CJSHYY

    76 & MDA?

  • leeda harun

no. I want mda as head coach.

  • David Kim

happening next week on Dec 15 LOL

  • Hope

This will put lots of pressure on the hornets. They might start Lin manana.

  • occupatio

in terms of the timing, the earliest lin could go to philly would be next year. by which time, philly might have already signed a PG as a free agent or drafted one.

in any case, if lin is offered the starting job to play for dantoni, there is no way he stays in charlotte, no matter how well hornets do this season. playing behind kemba is just a waste.

  • Acbc

Phili fans are so tired of losing, they just be willing to let Lin bring Linsanity to town. With MDA and Okafor, they could get into playoffs next year. I fully expect it!

  • takemeback2reaganyears

He will push to get Lin and Lin will give them 15% discount from Max.

  • Hope

Lin leaves, bees won’t make playoff

  • leeda harun

Not that easy maybe they already have other pg on their mind. Lin always THE LAST PICK

  • occupatio

highly unlikely that lin gets traded this year.

  • Acbc

Exactly. Makes you wonder if they knew this was brewing already behind the scenes before tonight’s game.

  • wandertheglobe

MDA is talking to the Sixers to be associate HC. If that happened, Lin to the Sixers?

  • Hope

I can wait till next year. Been waiting for 4 years already

  • cdblue10

Lin will get the starting job whatever is the situation if D’Antoni is coaching.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

If DAntoni and Lin are reunited it will be NBA big story for weeks if not months.

  • Yascar

Agree. I personally think he will stay in Charlotte till the end of the season. They’re a winning team, he’s improving as a player and he’ll likely get more playoff experience.

If D’Antoni does join Philly, I think it may be a little too late to save the season for them. They just don’t have the personnel. Lin may as well join them in the summer when they are better poised to build a team with their millions of draft picks and tons of cap space.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

MDA would be stupid not to get Lin back at the first chance. MDA built his fame through Nash and Linsanity, just for the sake of making a bigger name in the history he will get Lin back.

  • Hope

    Not assistant

  • Acbc

Why all of a sudden Lin gets ball in hand? Why Kemba SG? Even if it was just anew plays….this was a very different departure.

It’s sad that we that we have to make such guesses to rationalize Lin role.

  • grover chang

I respectively disagree. Lin is vital but not a one man show. After Lin left the Knicks and Rockets they still made the playoffs the next year. Rockets still could make it this year.

  • hm, so MDA will be an assistant coach for 76ers for this season to enhance his Head Coach chance somewhere else.
Not a bad plan at all if he can get 76ers to improve and play fun basketball

No doubt Lin & MDA will be texting a lot this upcoming offseason

  • Hope

Like a new ideas of Org chart.

  • occupatio

my evaluation of the timing has more to do with the philly FO than lin’s wishes. hinkie has NEVER given up assets all these years. and he is certainly not going to do it to rent lin for half a season. and for what purpose? to make a mediocre run and fail to tank for draft picks? it wouldnt make sense to give up assets to sign lin. and charlotte would certainly ask for assets in return.

however, if the philly owner has suddenly decided he wants to stop tanking, then anything is possible. esp if dantoni insists on getting lin. the fact that dantoni is brought on board, in addition to colangelo being hired, suggests the franchise is moving in a new direction. but i still highly doubt lin gets traded this year.

  • jeremy

whats that got to do with the talent team has

  • Acbc

This is what I expect as well. Phili doesn’t need to give away chips when they know Lin can be had at the end of the season,

  • FSW

Hope so. Haven’t liked cliff and fo treatment of Jeremy. Keep Kemba
and batum if you please and let Lin go somewhere he can really have fun.

  • wandertheglobe

I remember Colangelo invited Lin to practice with team USA during Linsanity.

  • jeremy

Agreed. These 2 teams have enough talents to make the play offs
The rockers went all the way to WCF last year

  • leeda harun

Be patient. It is still a long season

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Did you all see Mario Chambers, the much celebrated late-add-on for the Grizzles, got annihilated by the Hornets? He got himself into foul troubles in just 12 and half a minutes

  • jeremy

He still played well for them since joining the grizzlies

  • cdblue10

Colangelo,MDA and Lin, not bad at all….Actually this is going to be a one h*** of a ride!!!!

  • occupatio

thats because he spent all his minutes reaching in on lin. he got a steal out of it one time, and the rest were fouls.

  • Acbc

Nash could be next to join coaching team. Lin is an easy fit to bring up tempo MDA offence through Nash deciple like Lin. The Stars have all aligned.

  • Yascar

I agree, I doubt it as well. Charlotte won’t do it – there’s very little sense in a trade for Lin unless they get multiple picks from Philly, and Philly won’t do that. To be fair, don’t think Lin would favor a trade either.

But the direction at Philly seems to have shifted hard and they have rapidly lost patience with the “process,” so they are likely to be very aggressive. Teams can get a little silly when they are aggressive and an impatient owner wants results. You’ll never know. We’ll see.

  • John Focker

  • jeremy

    Still good defense
They have been known for their defense
If you can deceive the refs, you are really good

  • just a few weeks ago Hornets was #4 in the division, now JLin led it all the way up to #1
Still #2 in Eastern Conference, 0.5 game behind Cavs

  • Briiick

I agree with you that there could be connection. MJ is cheap. When he saw Lin take over the spotlight from KW during OT against Kings, he probably said something to Cliff causing the marginalization of Lin. When he got pressure from Lin fans, media and the 76ers he changed a little.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

    The hero was spelled Lin.

  • grover chang

A few thoughts from the game:
    1. Like Lin’s new hairstyle. The fifth element vibe is cool.
    2. Lin seemed to be auditioning for the memphis job to me.
    3. Who said Kemba could not shoot?
    4. Lin’s back seems to be better by the way he moves.
    5. Memphis mentioned how multiple Hornets were having career years. Man, Lin is so Lucky. Every time he joins a team guys are having career years. Must make his job easier.

They were a better team overall tn Mem didnt have a chance
    Their Offense is garbage

  • Exquisite Chicken Dance with style!

  • John Focker

Incompatible playing style with Hornets fast defense.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

The good hands of Kaminsky has made him the best PnR partner for Lin.

  • John Focker

Shooting with 20 pts lead (courtesy BF1 led by Lin) must be much more pleasant…

  • Briiick

They are going to tank this season anyway, so I doubt they can get any good player to come.

  • cdblue10

Whatever is Lin’s situation right now,we still want him to have his own team…that’s a fact!!!

  • occupatio

    that goes without saying.

  • sws94

I have a different view. I think he molded Lin, then Kendall Marshall who turned into an assist machine and if there is a young promising PG, he’ll mold him. It’s not like he has to have Lin or nobody else. Anyway, Lin going to Philly doesn’t excite me. I don’t like the team or culture there. And they are losers. I like Charlotte’s team and culture, and they’re winning. And I think Lin learned what he learned from DMA and now he’s learning how to be a more effective defensive player with Clifford and Silas.

  • Still an Assistant Coach =) but he’ll look for a Head Coaching position somewhere else.

Then MDA & Lin will be texting buddies before next season.
MDA: “Jeremy, are you interested to play for your old coach in …?”
    JLin: “I’m listening, Coach”

  • Hope

Chicken dance, that is Merten Hanks’ nickname. He was 49ers’ safety during the super bowl.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

The off season add-ons for the Hornets have really made the Hornets FO look great.
    Batum, Lin, Lamb, Hawes

  • DX

Lin didn’t do too much at 2nd half. He maybe just prepare for tomorrow’s game.

  • Hope

    Correcto

  • jeremy

Looking at it today Memphis offence is garbage
Conley isnt too creative offensively(very, very solid still a top 15-20PG imo)
Gasol isnt a play maker he can stop pretending to be one ZBo is only interested in his own 17-10 stat line
Their defence is good but offence needs more work Courtney Lee and Jeff Green are way too inconsistent
No wonder they offered Lin a contract with no player option
Lin can solve a lot of their problems
Lin can go off here and there They can really use that to be a top4 team in the west
he can certainly start at the 2 position next to conley now with his much improved defense

  • jeremy

    He was out of control

  • sws94

Hawes is so-so but Batum and Lin are great. Lamb is good, his holes are showing more each game.

  • Hope

Associate, not assistant. Maybe this is the new title.

  • Really a strong game to show that he’s a great scorer for himself but only JLin is a great playmaker to make his teammates better

Hornets fans would really see the discrepancy with more games like this

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Hawes is a good addition to the team. Give him a bit more time to work on his reception of Lin’s passes and his 3 pointers and Hawes could be invaluable in the playoff with his 3s and assists.

This season, the Hornets are formidable with their 3 seven-footers playing like a team.

  • sws94

Their style of play really doesn’t fit Lin. it’s not even fitting them anymore. Grindhouse has run its course.

  • occupatio

in case you missed this, current philly coach brett brown just got extended for another two years.
    https://twitter.com/WojYahooNBA/status/675419703163166723

that indicates that dantoni will NOT be head coach next year. however, it is possible i guess to move brett to asst coach next year and dantoni to head coach, but that idea doesnt really make sense, given brett’s extension.

  • DX

I won’t say Memphis’s offence is garbage. They did very good for 1Q before Lin came in. They are slow and mainly attack paint. If not Lin lead the beaches, it may be a loss today.

  • Yes, cool confident hairstyle indeed.

Lin already declined backup PG at Memphis last offseason, the slow-style just doesn’t suit him

Yes, great fluid movement & shooting especially in 1st half.
I think the back might still be bothering him in 2nd half as it stiffened up

  • hm, maybe like consultant role?

  • DX

Since have a big lead, Lin just don’t want to steal Kemba & Batum’s thunder.

  • jeremy

Their style of play doesnt fit anyone…thats why their offense is garbage Conley is misused

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Hawes hasn’t reached his ceiling yet at his age. He suffered a whole season playing behind DeAndre. He could be a very good player then.

  • jeremy

    1Q thats it
    then look what happened
Their 2nd unit can use some of Lin too

  • John Focker

…which was probably why Clifford tried to hide Lin after OT win vs. Kings, to not overshadow Kemba.

Ironically, it was the Lakers win over Hornets in which Lin got 21pts / 7asts that got him iced on the bench by jealous Kobe and his evil minion BS.

  • JoeTeam

    FIFY

    5. Every time he joined a team guys have career years.

  • Singapore BB Fan

Kemba can’t claim all the credit because he couldn’t do it last season. Kemba can’t shine without key players like JLin n Batum, . So it is not a one-man show.

  • yeah, Woj’s article mentioned that Brett was given the extension to help him feel secure when MDA came on-board as an Associate Coach.

MDA just wanted to use this Associate Coach as a springboard to enhance his chance getting Head Coach somewhere else. I think Woj makes sense that way

  • Hope

Let’s put it this way, how many games the bench really win it. I think at least 10/15

  • blubell

    when was this?

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Every one on the Hornets roster is having fun. This team’s potential is off the chart.

  • JoeTeam

I just would like to note that on CHA when Lin has a great game, it seems like the team and FO like it too. That didn’t happen much at Rox, and in NYK it only was allowed for the win streak you know what I mean.

  • cdblue10

Kemba was not counted as an assist because he dribbled the ball before he made a basket

  • DX

Be honest, MDA has been waiting very long, it’s not easy to became a head coach now.

  • occupatio

    ok.
i think philly is adding names like dantoni and colangelo to make thmeselves look like a legit organization. they still tanking tho haha.

  • JoeTeam

what’s the rule on that? one or 2? I have never read the real call on that.

  • occupatio

yes, the broadcasters praise lin. unlike the three stooges.

  • Gotta love Hansbrough’s swag to strut his stuff after making a 3 =)
    (refresh for pic)

    http://i.imgur.com/di7IAPz.gif

  • Briiick

They are still hedging their bets on Batum and Lin, in this order.

  • DX

Not know the rule, but one bounce shouldn’t be a problem.

  • JeremyLinthebest

    haha, look at Hawes behind.

  • blubell

Someone’s having fun with GIFs? LOL

  • John Focker

Lin “happened”, not Grizzlies’ fault. Lin-centric team easily beats most teams today except GSW and Spurs. Fully-staffed Clippers getting MUTILATED in preseason is good evidence.

  • cdblue10

    Yep

  • blubell
  • leeda harun

ha ha keep it on coming

  • JoeTeam

sorry, I had typos … I’m asking … fixed above. Whuz the rule?

  • DX

Yes, I like see Lin play PnR with Gasol. Lin will speed up their pace for sure.

  • keep finding good ones from a good Hornet fan =]

  • CJSHYY

Oh! If so… will Lin really pick 76?

  • Briiick

That’s what I thought too. The owner is cheap who has taken advantage of the league for many seasons and can’t stop it cold turkey.

  • cdblue10

If a player pass the ball to certain player,he needs to shoot it without making any dribble to count as an assist

  • JoeTeam

funny when Lin is interviewed with this new hair, you sort of don’t think he’s toeing the line anymore, like he’s an original Joe making his own moves. Check it out in the above interview.

  • blubell

They need to make good moves off season and bring in veterans. It’s bunch of kids over there.

  • Hope

Linn leaves, bench collapses. W becomes L. How many games starters fall behind in 1Q.

  • only if MDA is a head coach somewhere else so Lin becomes the PG, I think

Not sure if Lin wants to come in while MDA is the Associate Coach in 76ers, whatever that might mean

  • JoeTeam

ok … is a stabilizing dribble ok without a move? Or a dribble to step back like Steph does so often?

  • I wonder how MDA might get good publicity if 76ers is still tanking =]

  • yes, very difficult

that’s why he doesn’t mind to get his feet wet with this ‘Associate Coach’ title

  • occupatio

actually, player can dribble two times and still count as an assist.

  • cdblue10

You can euro step, you can step back you can alley oop but no dribbling because they’re not gonna count that as an assist from the passer

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Keep on making these 3s, he will get more minutes. In fact I have seen him somewhere practicing on his jumpers all the time with coaches.

  • Hope

Rich Cho better be ready to pull the trigger.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

    Who are the 3 stooges?

  • cdblue10

Nah when the receiver dribble the ball that’s not counted as an assist anymore.

  • blubell

    Rockets broadcasters.

  • yes, he wants to show coaches that he can make the 3s so play him more =]

  • CJSHYY

Feel the same… bc AS coach normally can’t really do anything…

  • blubell

So what’s the difference between associate and assistant coach?

  • jeremy

    But that was pre season

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Gotta love to see the Hornets play the Rockets now. The defused Rockets would be stunk.

  • Hope

I wonder if mda already talk to jlin. Deal already been made?

  • Kwok Wai Lai

The bigs guarding him have to come out and that create lots of space for the guards to drive in.

  • cdblue10

NBA Rules The NBA has a slightly different definition of an assist. In professional basketball, an assist is defined as the last pass to a teammate that leads directly to a field goal. However, the NBA elaborates by saying that the player receiving the pass must move immediately toward the basket in a scoring motion. – See more at: http://www.livestrong.com/article/141986-basketball-rules-assists/#sthash.rksG1n4C.dpuf

  • Assistant sounds like a subordinate
Associate sounds like a consultant who can disassociate at any moment LOL

  • Rick Johnson
  • heart

Bc Hornets know they got Lin for cheap, a big bargain bundled in a load of talented Lin. On the other hand, Rox had to pay Lin a hefty price knowing he can outshine their new franchise face in Harden. Hence, the tactic of justification…

  • Kwok Wai Lai

With a whole season to come, the bigs of the Hornets would pick up the shooting % of their 3s; those good looks straight ahead 3s.

  • occupatio

it is widely known that player can dribble and still get counted as assist. in fact, boston scorekeepers did this regularly.

Brett’s wife is Aussie. He coached in Australia for awhile before coming back to the States. Similarly, Mike coached in Italy for a while before coming back. I think they will get along just fine. Colangelo probably talked to Brett about his intention of bringing in Mike, before Brett signed the extension.

  • occupatio

    lol brilliant answer

  • takemeback2reaganyears

They text each other often, according to Lin.

  • sws94

He’s clutch. That Kings game Kemba’s baskets were all clutch and I’ve seen him hit clutch shots a lot in the 4th. Game winners, not so sure. But he is clutch. In fact, I think he and Lin are the two clutch players on the team.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

The Charlotte Oberver seems to rearrange this piece of good reporting from Roick Bonnell
    http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nba/charlotte-hornets/article49405700.html

  • occupatio

more on the disconnect between boxscore stats and lin’s effectiveness:

lin only had 2 assists counted tonight. aside from the pass to kemba for layup that wasnt counted, lin also had many at-the-rim passes that resulted in FTs tonight. thats the most valuable ‘assist’ that isnt counted as an assist: let teammate go to the FT line for efficient point production, and rack up a personal foul on the defender.

because lin is so good at creating assists at the rim, many of his successful passes that produce points for the team are NOT counted as assists.

  • Briiick

Here is my speculation. 76ers don’t want to fire Brown without giving him a chance to win because he has been told to tank. Hiring MDA simply is to secure his availability in the following seasons because of his connection with the new president. So I believe MDA won’t accept the offer unless there is some kind of agreement to make him the head coach very soon.

  • sws94

Kemba’s a ball handler and scorer with a little bit of ability to playmake. Lin is a scorer and big playmaker. Batum is a scorer and facilitator. I hope Lin’s role expands as a facilitator. He was mostly doing that in today’s game with some scoring.

  • Rick Johnson

This one is better. Has Gasol’s reaction:

    https://twitter.com/DCWLN/status/675519622184108032

Its associate head coach not head coach. No power

  • This is a good picture of JLin’s new hairstyle.

    (refresh for pic)

  • JJ Hui

Batum gave credit to Lin in last two post game interviews but KW say nothing about Lin since credit Lin after that winning OT!

  • yes, that’s precious Gasol reaction lol

  • heart

If DMA is hired by 76rs, then he may advised BBrown to get Lin bc Lin is familiar w/DMA offense. And Lin must be starter if he goes there. I hope tanking is over by then for 76rs.

  • LinLinLin

Many KPop stars rocking different hairstyles all the time..Lin is one heck of super star, on and off court!

  • Spot

Somehow I thought could happen something like that.

Brown and D’Antoni can work great together. And both are Lin fans 😉

  • Rick Johnson

76ers could be good with Okafor & Embiid (if he ever gets healthy) and then they will probably get 3-4 first round picks. An experienced, intelligent PG like Lin who makes players better would be a perfect floor General to develop the young players. Seems like it would take longer if they draft a PG like D’Angelo Russell who’s just learning himself.

  • blubell
  • Lin Win

    Haah Tanking is never over!

  • occupatio

on a sidenote, it is ridiculous how the memphis main roster hasnt changed for ages. and tony allen isnt getting any younger.

speaking of tony allen, he caught the ball on the perimeter and without doing anything fancy, just blew by lamb for a layup. when old man allen drives from the arc to score a layup on you, thats just sad. lamb is such a bad defender in so many aspects.

  • check out @Warren:disqus post from previous game thread on good article:

Jeremy Lin Steals The Show As Hornets Beat Grizzlies 123-99
    http://www.morningnewsusa.com/super-jeremy-lin-steals-show-hornets-beat-grizzlies-123-99-2348227.html

article does great job of highlighting lin’s defensive plays

  • heart

If not, then I think Lin won’t want to be on a tanking team. Who knows how things will turn out. We’ll know soon by the end of this season for sure.

  • blaznazn22

oh cmon man…we all know rockets got lucky as fuukk last year. it was a miracle year that they actually won. The clippers are the biggest choke artists in history…think about it. There is a statistic that says 95% of teams who go 3-0 in the playoffs, win the series. Yet eventhough the clippers had it 3-0, the ultimate choke artists that they are choked it up hard. Also these choke artists somehow beat the spurs in round 1. If the spurs beat new york knicks last game of the regular season (the crappy knicks), they would have seeded 3 position in the west and faced off against the rockets and not the clippers first round. Instead, I guess the spurs took it way too ez, thought the game was a lock, and somehow lost to the knicks. Those 2 reasons are the REAL miracle reasons why the rockets went to the western conference finals…they lucked out so hard it wasn’t even funny. H***, if they still had lin and parsons on the team, they probably would have done better against golden state warriors, instead of getting blown out in 5 games.

  • Guest

I wonder which one is bigger in economics terms : 12m/year investment in a mediocre player or a city BUZZING with many visitors to watch the NBA games, the spill over effects to many other activities and the multiplier effects of the money spent by the visitors.
Somebody has to do the maths for the Charlotte mayors, seriously.

  • Guest

Well, of course the visitors flocking to Charlotte to see Jeremy Lin playing basketball.

  • blaznazn22

go to the 76ers??? hahahaha you are a good joker. My man, going to the damn 76ers would ruin his career for good, he might as well pack his bags and go to china and play. 76ers are 1-24 right now…on track for 1-81 when the season is over, the worst team in sports history EVER. Not even steph curry the basketball god can save that garbage team. They need to ship all their garbage players to the d league and hire some good help from the free agent pool. THEN maybe lin will join them….until then no way in h***.

  • blaznazn22

this team is good, lin getting great minutes and hes playing well with kemba even off the ball. Lin would be a damn fool to join the 76ers, the worst team in the history of sports. Not even basketball god steph curry can save that terrible team. Unless the 76ers fire every player on their roster, and hire some decent players from the free agency, no way in H*** should lin ever consider going there.

  • thanks, I wonder why Jun Liu resolution is lower than usual?

[mark 6:10] Lin was ready to go to the bench w/ 4 min left in the 2nd quarter when Kemba checked in

2nd unit defense has been very excellent recently. They worked together as 1 cohesive unit with great communication.
They didn’t allow practice layups like the 1st unit did in the 1st quarter.

  • DX

    Maybe just uploaded.

  • occupatio

to give a sense of how pathetic the sixers are, they waited for kendall marshall coming back tonight from injury to bring stability to their PG rotations. thats just sad.

marshall had a very marshall line tonight: 5 pts, 6 assists in 16 minutes.

  • ah yes, thanks. I got HD now

  • CJSHYY

    I think so.

  • DX

We are too hurry to wait the HD.:)

  • Lin really stuffed Tony Allen with the steal (plus foul+2FTs) and block

Lin’s defense really hit SuperNova level tonight

  • occupatio

that shot in which lin decided to shoot it in mid-air, that was very representative of memphis defensive pattern: perimeter defenders obstruct passing lanes to perimeter shooters instead of collapsing to help. they rely on their interior defense to defend penetration, without help from wings sagging down.

this defense really confused the starters in the 1Q. eg, kemba would drive in and look for outlet to kick the ball out, but couldnt find a passing lane and got stuck.

later on, i think cliff prolly said something because kemba and lin all tried to break the interior defense down isnted of trying to kick out.

  • occupatio

what ive been most impressed by lin is how quickly and closely he sticks to players who are using screens, especially off ball. also his pnr defense, hes been moving around screens so well. its very improved even compared to last year. i will even say his ability in this area is now elite. much of the time, its not possible to do it better than lin did.

stephanie ready was saying something about it tonight, talking about lin learning to move with ‘efficient movements’ on defense. seems to be something he’s learning from what’s his face that asst coach on hornets, and cliff.

  • spiderman

Always been good, but definitely at another level now

  • spiderman

You’re right – these are more valuable assists, because you weaken their defense (by racking up personal fouls). MJ was a master at this.

  • real-dsb

Nice game by Lin. Glad to see Lin got a lot of credit in multiple articles!

  • JoeTeam

    Yep.

What do you think is more surprising to Steph Curry. The fact that his team is undefeated or the fact that his hometown team is #2 in the Eastern Conference (probably #1 soon)?

  • KJ

I wonder if Jeremy playing PG this game is Hornets FO attempt to keep him, in view of Philly attempt to engage Mike DAntoni? The news broke before the game.

  • JoeTeam

Did you notice how Kemba low fived Lin after he leaped and cause Green to miss the catch … 6:50 on Jun’s highlights. Never saw Kobe or Price or Bev or Harden do that.

  • golfhacker

I just read on ESPN, depending on how teams finish the season, the Sixers could have FOUR first round picks next year.

  • kjch

MDA to Philly as associate head coach? Woj says they’re “in talks”:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources–76ers-in-talks-to-hire-mike-d-antoni-as-associate-head-coach-053402648.html

Unless Lin plans to join him and Brett Brown, I’d hold out if I were MDA. Hollins is a lame duck coach in BKN.

  • Singapore BB Fan

Coincidence? I guess the news of MDA comeback rattled the FO a bit.

  • sport

Really depends on what they offer him. Reunite with MDA and start for 76ers to have his own team or be bench player where he’s not even 6th man. It’s obvious Hornets are finally giving Lin more chances to handle the ball and playing Walkers at SG because MDA finally got hired and they are afraid they can’t resign Lin next season. Yet Lin’s minutes are still alot lower than Walker and Batum which is unfair. If they don’t start Lin at all they will lose him.

  • sport

Lin will make any team a winning one with the right system and coach so long as he’s the starting PG with 32+ minutes.

  • David Kim

Do you guys know that which one less data usage for phone watching YouTube video in YouTube.com or watching YouTube videos in YouTube app? Or same? I am using lots of data because of cnm videos ….lol

  • sport

AL needs to come off the bench. His game is slow and too old school, doesn’t fit the fast pace of the team!

  • sport

MDA and Lin back in NYC but on the other side would drive Dolan crazy! Imagine how much fun we’d have watching them beat the Knicks.

  • sport

Too little too late and Lin’s not dumb he knows they value Walker and Batum more than him. And they lied to him about playing along side Walker and PnR. Also the minutes don’t lie and Lin averaged 15-18 minutes this season and only occasionally gets 27-28 minutes, never even 30 minutes or more! Meanwhile Batum and Walker gets to play 30+ even when their shooting is off.

  • Acbc

Learned from OKC and Harden school of ole defence.

  • zxcvb

It would really be something fun. Not even for “revenge” (I don’t hate the Knicks beyond daddy’s boy Dolan). Just for basketball purposes. Brooklyn needs something, anything, to inject some excitement onto the floor.

Lin and MDA anywhere would be amazing. Even Philly.

  • 1mtoldman

lin leading the league in hpg (hairstyles per game).

  • 1mtoldman

i dont have any reason to speculate on lin going to philly; but no– tanking is over.

thats why coangelo was brought in. the league said (regardless of any back tracking they’re doing now on this) “enuf is enuf”.

the other owners are complainaing about lost revenue and the results are making the team and by inference the league a joke.

time to bring in the godfather.

hinkie the asset flipper the wall street “genius” has been “effectively fired”.

it may take some time to turn things around but the never ending “process” has been ended.

  • 1mtoldman

this game will help lins stat lines but also i think the big stat is his hpg (hairstyles per game)–clearly setting a new high standard there that probably wont be touched for years.

  • KJ

Here’s my 2 cents worth why Jeremy Lin shot better this game…..the hair heavy on the left helped balanced his injured back(which caused an offset shot) to shoot true. Less hair on the right helped to target blocks with the “blocks” eye….hence the increase in those stats. ?. No applause necessary.

  • Acbc

Not sure what to make of it. Kinda Zoolanderish! Lol

  • Acbc

Lin’s commodity is on the rise. The media can’t lie about him anymore as a turn over machine, can’t shoot, can’t defend. Any teams that wants him could make it happen, all that’s needed is by hiring MDA.

  • TTNN

For last game, according to NBA.com, Lin had 2 assist, 3 FT assist and 1 secondary assist

  • KHuang

No, it’s more than Kemba Walker was SO BAD and got BEATEN INTO THE GROUND so badly that the Hornets were down 14 before Lin even entered the game!

  • Maknusia

WOW! Great Game by the Hornets and Led by Lin! Go Hornets Go Lin…..

Lin been improving his movement off the ball….he been cutting slashing way better than he use to be. He also improved vastly on defensive PnR….truly happy to see that.

  • Maknusia

NBA advance stat for today’s game. Great hockey assist and assist that led to FTs

  • Maknusia

    Lin with Superb NetRating!!!!

  • CJSHYY

Just check Kendall Marshall is w 76 too. He’s the PG for Lakers when MDA was head coach.

  • KL

Jeremy had spoken about 3 teams having interest in him. Dallas, Memphis and Charlotte.

With Dallas, Jeremy mentioned that they showed interest early on but it faded away. I think Dallas was too preoccupied with the DeAndre Jordan saga. Also I cannot imagine Parsons helping Lin. He is a political snake who likes hanging out with stars but would not help Lin after Lin was marginalised.

Jeremy also made a brief remark about not considering Philadelphia because he was not sure about their “agendas”, i.e. tanking.

With Memphis, it would be a winning team but I think Lin knew he would be a backup on a team with a ponderous pace and a clogged interior for 3 years. His career may well slide downwards irreversibly.

With Charlotte, Jeremy was not only convinced that they wanted to win but he was sold on an offence which would allow him to play his style. He was also impressed with Clifford’s knowledge.

I think Lin was simply sick of playing for coaches who were far beneath him in basketball knowledge who could not even draw a play properly.

Clifford also said Jeremy was a backup but could get more minutes as SG or even be a starter someday. This must be refreshing to Jeremy after being lied to so many times and yet the hope of good minutes or eventually starting was probably persuasive.

I think Jeremy has been right on many counts. The Hornet want to win. Clifford is a good coach in various ways, like defence, drawing plays etc. Jeremy has been very effective as he thrives when there is a structure. Most commentators have been saying that Jeremy has improved or is playing better this year. Strange cause his stats are not very different from last year. Being on a winning team definitely helps I guess.

The only problem is that Lin is probably getting less minutes than he expected and starting seems remote. I think Clifford said what most coaches would say in a sales speech.

Looking at it now, Jeremy probably made the best choice available. He has also adapted well and he is opening up career opportunities after this season.

Was surprised that Lin playing pg with kw. He might start today.

  • grover chang

I saw some fans wear the Lin spiked hair look. What’s the chances they wear the fifth element wig?

  • Phoenix Rising

Very well said. Nice post. Largely what I have been thinking too. Only, I would like to differ on one point – Clifford’s lying that I have been seeing on this site for so many days (you put it very nicely compared to others). I don’t see lies in what Clifford is doing. Rather, I think he has been a little tied down by the FO and Lin’s shooting numbers.

I think Clifford saw Lin as a great addition to the team, but more for his offense. And post pre-season Lin has caught him by surprise – worst shooting of his career. But also a pleasant surprise – his excellent defense, far beyond what Cliff might have been expecting. Lin has never had a good defensive system to play in, and for the first time his defensive speed and IQ are shining through. I believe his minutes situation this entire season have been a direct consequence of these 2 factors, good and bad. If not for his defense he would be buried deep in the bench.

His offensive IQ, passing ability, driving speed and finishing at rim are still there. When he keeps getting 25+ mins a game, his shooting percentage might improve too. Already we are seeing better chemistry between Lin, Batum and Kemba in these couple of games. Clearly the coach is driving it (today and last games I was fortunate to hear Cliffords instructions in the background. today – “Lin take over at point” while Kemba was still in).

We have been so butt-hurt by Lin’s coaches in the past, we’re creating this defense mechanism (more like offensive mechanism) when things are not going as we envisaged. In the words of Lin – SURRENDER and live life joyfully, especially on this site please – cause its an important source of the same for me 😛

Disregarding the argument that East is weaker than West, it’s no coincidence that Hornets is ranked high with Jeremy Lin on the team. I didn’t expect it to be THAT high, but anyways, it’s still a good surprise….

  • cdblue10

I don’t think he will,2nd unit will be running like a headless chicken if that happens.

  • KL

Thanks. Interesting that you heard Clifford instruct Lin to take over at point. I have noticed that when Lin plays at PG it happens at a snap and in an orderly manner. I thought it was part of a coaching pla and I am glad you confirmed it.

  • CJSHYY

I did & I believe there is good chance they will beat Cav to be #1 in the east. Of course when Irving comes back maybe Cav will be better… but if Hornets keeps playing team ball they can.

Lin is really that good that only a coach that wants to lose or teammates rebelling could stop his team rising. Many NBA stars break records in their high school or college with regard to personal stats but few have ever influenced winning the way Jeremy has.

  • David Kim

What’s difference between president and GM in nba?

  • JustSayNo2HardensIso

Interesting coaching this game. Throughout the game you can hear coach Cliff yelling to Jeremy, “Jeremy, you play point now”. This is when both Kemba and Jeremy were in the game. It seems like this was a spur of the moment decision for the coach to see how they did.

  • CJSHYY

Really? I didn’t hear that…. Maybe bc I was watching from Mem feed?

  • David Kim

The president of basketball operations, or some similar title, is usually the person in charge of building the roster. That used to be the job of the general manager, and for many teams, the only thing that has changed is the title. For example, during Joe Dumars’ long tenure in Detroit, he was the president of basketball operations, and there was no general manager.

The Pistons have now changed to the dual-role system, with Stan Van Gundy being hired as both president of basketball operations and head coach. Van Gundy has said he is going to hire a general manager — almost certainly Otis Smith. The GM will handle the day-to-day aspects of the job, such as supervising the scouting, video and statistical departments, but Van Gundy will be the one making roster decisions.

The Pistons are using the same system as San Antonio, where Gregg Popovich is the “president of Spurs basketball” and head coach, while R.C. Buford is the general manager.

The Clippers also use it, with head coach Doc Rivers as the Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations and Gary Sacks as the Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations. Sacks is filling the same role as Smith and Buford, even though the titles are slightly different.

(While many franchises have multiple titles with the title “President of XXXX”, all of whom report to the owner, the Clippers have several Senior Vice Presidents, all of whom reported to team president Andy Roeser, who reported in turn to Donald Sterling. However, in the aftermath of Sterling’s lifetime ban, Roeser is on an involuntary indefinite leave of absence, and has been replaced by a league-appointed CEO.)

  • Maknusia

Great observation and thanks for sharing! There could be many reasons why his minutes are low….but we know for sure that CC is trying his best to win the game. Whatever it is, his formula been working handsomely till now.

As a coach, I dont think anyone would want to do a major tweak, when the wheel is not broken, why fix it…just minor adjustment here and there to keep it moving and moving better.

Kudos to CC for recognizing Lin as the playmaker point…sooner or later…as the season gets tougher, and things sag, he is gonna be depended on Lin much more….

  • Maknusia

As for you other point, on lies…I’m with you…when I see CC, I dont think him as a double faced coach…he is as straight as one can be. You could see that from his speech/interview..

As a coach, its a huge burden to bring a team together and its even tougher when you have new comes coupled with rookies. He has done well…

  • swijaya

Happy with how Cliff utilized Lin in the last 4 games, not to mention Lin’s contribution with W against very solid play-off teams.

    12/5 – @CHI Solid Win

    12/9 – MIA Blowout Win

While still early, Charlotte has proven to be a serious contender rather than a play-off team only. Hope he continues helping Charlotte going far into the play-off, while showing his worth.

After the season, Lin can consider other best option.

  • Maknusia

    lol…good one! 🙂

  • Acbc

Both Khuang and I have been saying that for a very long time. He says that Lin is the best he’s seen for a generation and I agree. I’ve maintained that Lin is a transformative player that makes people around him see their own unshackled possibilities. Lin transform a team from players that run around in circle to a team that can actually know what each other is doing.

  • Maknusia

Is he a NBA player?! 😉

  • Maknusia

They are under the advance stats…see above for my post

NOrmally they are a trusted and stay close to HC. The final decision is always made by the HC, but the AsscHC has the influencing power.

  • Acbc

No not true. The system does require a pg that can at least facilitate. Felton couldn’t do it, neither did Marshall. It takes someone special like Nash and Lin to make magic happen.

  • Acbc

Lol, coach Lin can make this bunch of youngsters into a team. Look at how he made Shump, Novak, Fields and others into stars by the will of his leadership. Lin’s doing it everywhere he goes. Coach Lin shows them a better way of playing as a unit by “over passing”. That’s how the Spurs been doing it with great ball movement.

  • occupatio

  • spiderman

Spiked hair can be a real marketing tool. Hope he doesn’t confuse his fans too much

  • sws94

I understand people love MDA but Lin is on a winning team with good team mates and a very good coach now and really, do we want Lin to be a journeyman? If Lin plays like he did last night and strings more games like that together, he’ll get his PT. I don’t really get looking beyond this season when Lin’s usage is expanding in Charlotte and he has a chance to put up big numbers soon towards helping his team win against tough teams.

Lin will LIKELY have ball hogs impacting his game no matter the system, coach, team. That’s the way it is, ball hogs exist on most teams. With all the romantic thoughts of MDA, the ball hog on that team got him fired. MDA didn’t coach Lin for long and didn’t make it to the end of that very Knick season. And Kobe and others got him out of LA.

It’s all this starting or not stuff. If he plays around 28-30 minutes and has the impact he has, then he’s being used correctly. You don’t need to start to have big impact and have very good stats even.

  • spiderman

Good wins. Playing catch up in some of these match ups can be wearisome. Makes you wonder how much more dominant a Lin-pronged game would be

  • Phoenix Rising

It was there on the Mem feed too.

  • Phoenix Rising

He did it last game too.

  • CJSHYY

Oh! But I just asked the other fan who also watched Mem feed & he said he didn’t see it either?! 4Q?

  • Phoenix Rising

No, much earlier. Maybe 2nd quarter. I was on the Memphis feed today to hear what their commentators had to say about Lin’s play and caught it. I heard it in last game too.

Lin is like a Maestro. Allow him to conduct and bring out the best in everyone. Great music can be made.

  • xeroid

I think people/Lin fans have been underestimating Lin’s nagging injury and its effect on his shooting. The fact that he need to fly his acupuncturist in for treatment speaks volumes. His shooting in last game has definitely improved. I expect he will get better as season wore on and getting more minutes. Lower minutes in the beginning of season is no big deal as some fans make out to be, and probably helped Lin’s recuperation.

  • webattorney

Too early to tell because most teams are clustered, separated by only 1 or 2 games. I still would not be surprised if Hornets lost in 1st round of playoff though.

  • webattorney

    Interesting. Good catch.

  • Hornets Marketing is very smart and nice :]

  • webattorney

    What’s a generation? 20 years?

If Cliff is accused of lying, all NBA coaches and GMs are frauds. Lin getting good minutes as a bench player. I was expecting 18 to 22 from the beginning, so I am pleasantly surprised.

  • new BOS game thread
    http://www.jlinportal.com/g23-bos-cha-game-thread/

What a wonderful game from JLin with the highest +/- at +25 to spark a 40-24 run to close the half. The win helped the Hornets to stay as #2 in the Eastern Conference. Otherwise they would’ve fallen to #7 This is a second game in the Back-to-Back games but thankfully, Celtics also had an exhausting 2OT game in a loss vs GSW last night.

    1. Would Jeremy Lin have enough left in the tank to play good defense and offense? His shooting looked much better and comfortable but the 2nd half still looked iffy so the stiffening back injury might be the contributing problem

    2. Will Jeremy rock the same Fifth Element hairstyle? I’d say don’t change it if it works for him 🙂

Let’s go, JLin! Let’s continue to shoot at least 8FG & 4 FT attempts. Relax, be your aggressive self & just play your game on matter what happens

  • Maknusia

    1) was the same for everyone
    2) They were a good team and they choked but the rockets were good enough to make them choke
    3) Spurs lost because the clippers were better they are not of the worst teams, quite the opposite actually I see you are a big clippers/rockers hater

You dont reach the conference final and getting 2nd seed in the crazy west by luck they were doing something right

  • JoeTeam

I used to think so too and now I see Steph and yep, they are different. All Lin has to do is be able to express his game in a supportive environment, and he will express his greatness too.

I’d compare him to a jazz pianist with a small group like a drummer, double bass, sax and trumpet.

most teams are playing chopsticks. They can read and execute simple schemes in a linear manner. Some have well orchestrated symphonies, like the Spurs and GSW. Then have expanded that system to a sophisticated level.

Lin is a jazz pianist because he is a master of chaos. Jazz is a deliberate dissemination of a system into fundamentals, much like modern art. They take a standard and break it down to its chords and intuitively reassemble it by the notes that connect those chords. Lin plays by feel and he sets the music and the rhythm with his pounding piano. At anytime the players can take a lead and turns are taken by each member to showcase their abilities. Jazz is not just a performance of music, it’s a performance of meeting of minds and soul in that performance. Ask any musician and they’ll tell you that when it happens, it’s like magic. Your heart pounds with excitement and you reach a high that nothing else can come close to. ( maybe why so many jazz musicians have drug problems.).

This what makes Lin so special and hard to understand. Jazz is an acquired taste and few take time to understand or apprecaote it. Even I haven’t grown beyond the simple be bop jazz and have only once felt the nuances of modern jazz. Thats why there’s beauty to the way Lin plays.

  • grover chang

Beautiful description and analogy of Lin.

  • blaznazn22

1)durant injury helped rockets way more than it did spurs or golden state warriors

2)choking is a result of someones own weakness, not the other teams. No way can I understand how clippers start 3-0, then lose against rockets 4 consecutive times, 2 at their own court. Ultimate chokers, who can’t handle the spotlight…i feel bad for them

3)Like I said, spurs lost to the KNICKS for the last game of their regular season, the freaking knicks, 2nd worst team in the NBA last season. The caused them to seed worse at the final moment before the playoff. If they beat the knicks , spurs would have seeded 5th in the western conference and would have faced against portland trailblazers round 1. Because they lost to the knicks by some crazy miracle, they seeded 6th and faced the clippers. Clippers were playing at a ridiculous level the first round of playoffs and beat the spurs by 1 point in game 7 on a very lucky shot with 1 second left in the 4th quarter.

So, given that spurs and clippers faced each other in first round and spurs were eliminated by pure luck. Lets say spurs beat the clippers instead, do you honestly believe the spurs would have choked like the clippers did against the rockets? You must be dreaming. Also, like i said before, if kevin durant was playing last season, OKC would have ranked 2nd or 3rd in western conference. How would the rockets do against OKC plus durant?

Finally I want to say, take 5 seconds and look at the regular season standings for the west last year.

Every single team from 2nd seed to 6th seed are very close. Rockets had 56 wins 26Losses, Clippers had the exact same record. Portland Trailblazers ranked 4th with 51 wins and 31 losses because they were division champions (the NBA removed this rule this year), The memphis grizzlies at 5th with 55 wins and 27 losses, the spurs with 55 wins and 27 losses in 6th. See how close the teams are?? Separated by 1 single game, thats it. If durant was not injured last season that would have shifted big time, there would have been alot of changes.

So there you have it, big time luck, i am a rockets hater true, since they’re a shtt team with a shtt GM who doesn’t know how to respect their role players. But if you can’t see how lucky the rockets were last year you are blind

  • sws94

That’s the semi-floating pump shot that is working for him over big men. If he can get that to go down consistently as well as that semi-crossover semi-step back shot going he’ll have 2 reliable go-to shots he can take against big men and not get them blocked. The latter creates separation, the former creates separation by the pump.

  • Briiick

I am surprised (happily) to hear that ! WOW, maybe the volume of critics from Lin fans does force them to change.

  • sws94

Agree and I also love that his team now has nice chemistry on the court that is getting better with each game. I like this team. I know a lot on this board don’t and want to see him go elsewhere but I like this team. I think the coach’s use of Lin is acceptable.

  • sws94

Music is my specialty. Especially improvised music, including jazz. This is a very interesting post.

What’s modern jazz to you? Paul Bley? Ornnette? Or later?

  • sws94

I find Clifford acceptable. I like this team. As far as ball dominant guys go, I can take Kemba. I think a lot of people on here misunderstand me because I won’t go along with saying Clifford is unacceptable. Well, I don’t find him that way and I see where he’s going in a direction, albeit slow one, of integrating Lin more into the team’s offense and the minutes will go towards the high 20s for him in most games if he does what the coach wants to see consistently and doesn’t make some of the same errors that frustrate the coach over and over.

  • sws94

Glad to read this POV. Finally feel I have some support here because it’s been tilting towards the Cliff is a bad coach for Lin sentiment more than I think is necessary. I think we need to just be more patient and Lin has to play with a little more involvement and he’ll get rewarded. That’s been shown in the past 4 games. Some more from Cliff and Lin, not just one of them.

  • spiderman

A “master of chaos” – a very fitting title.

Like a jazz pianist, Lin is able to improvise as the situation presents. Many aren’t able to see the subtle but highly effective nuances of this gift… so they prefer chopsticks

  • Michael

    excellent question

  • GoJLin!

The rest command is so true, only Lin’s play time this season so far (22 games), average is 23 min (22.96 round up).

  • Michael

Lin carries the bench on his back, The bench carries the team so Kemba carries the team. 100% Logic. (certified NBA expert )

  • Michael

I am so close to giving in to voting Hairsanity every time.

  • Acbc

I still can’t appreciate Coleman and most free form. The closest to it is “Giant Steps”…and only a few times that my ear actually heard it and felt it properly. Do you think that it’s nothing you can actually learn to like, it’s something your ear tunes into and find its musicality by exposure. It was like suddenly I was able to apprecaote it.

  • Acbc

I don’t follow GSW so I can’t say anything about Stef. What I do know is there are times when you watch Lin manipulate time and space, there’s a mathematical genius to it that I find beautiful. It’s elegant and surprising in the way the play evolves. It’s as if it’s a weave of light that meshes over a canvas. That weave of activity intersects time space in surprising ways but it works. That’s the Jazz part of it I find beautiful. When humans elevate each other into a godlike performance it’s purity is actually profound.

  • sws94

For me free is organized chaos and moments the stuff gels. There’s a lot of exploring and probing to get there. Some of that is like Lin, probing at least, then through some chaos at times he just finds that great play.

To answer your question, yes, you find the musicality by exposure. Still, we all feel it our own way and it may just not be the experience you’ll seek out for your own aesthetic/aural experience.

  • JoeTeam

Jazz is right! Check out Steph, it’s a different riff but jazzy all the same.

  • jeremy
