Hairsanity Unleashed 35 pts in OT Thriller Win against the Raptors

What a full-blown HAIRSANITY game in an 109-99 OT thriller win against the Raptors!

Jeremy Lin started in Batum’s absence and unleashed 35pts/4asts/5rebs/2blks/3TOs/4PFs in 47 min!

He finished with +11 in +/- in the game.

His 8-of-9 shooting in the first half set the tone for this game.

Jeremy simply had a knack to produce Linsanity games against the Raptors:

  • 02/14/12 27pts/11ast/2reb/1stl in 90-87 Knicks win. Linsanity
  • 03/20/12 18pts/10ast/3reb/1blk/1stl in 106-87 Knicks win
  • 11/27/12 16pts/10ast/4reb/3stls in 117-101 Rockets win
  • 11/11/13 31pts/1ast/5rebs/1blk/2stls in 110-101 Rockets 2 OT win
  • 12/17/15 35pts/4asts/5rebs/2blks in 109-99 Hornets OT win

Since Raptors is a dinosaur resembling a dragon, it might be appropriate to give a new nickname for Jeremy Lin as “the Dragon Slayer”.

LOLOLOL I’m really in a “high.” Watched the whole game and couldn’t keep my eyes close. Was screaming and clapping so hard. Glad that no one was at home. Otherwise I’ll be in big trouble. One minus, I should work on my project rather than keep on dragging my feet for it:-)

This great game and win spearheaded by Lin is the beginning of a bigger things to come. The most important thing on this win is Batum and Kemba can’t iced him out anymore because the coaches and the NBA fans saw the capability of Lin on both ends of the court, prolly this is the game that Clifford’s awaited for so long to start a big 3 in Charlotte. If they can acquire a bigman that can anchor the paint for defense, this team is definitely a contender in the East.

  • grover chang

That biyombi raptor guy would’ve made a good defensive anchor. I could see a lot of fast breaks starting from his defense.

  • cdblue10

That guy is a monster on the paint, wasn’t it he used to be a Hornets player?

  • blubell

  • InfiniteWisdom

i think it’s time to explore the kemba/batum/lin trio for real this time. add frank and cody, and that lineup can wreck other teams, they just have to figure it out. lin has been criminally underutilized. kemba has played well all season, shot well especially from 3, and has the best handles on the team. he gets to the rim and can get his shot off anywhere, anytime. BUT he can’t do this every possession. that’s kembaball and wont win games. batum has been a great all around player that makes good decisions and great passes, but he has a lot of TO’s and he doesnt attack the rim. also shoots too many 3s trying to draw fouls. i hate it when people try to go for the foul and not the bucket. that’s why harden is such bs…

anyways, then we have lin. he’s got to be the second ballhandler in this trio. his penetration will be KEY to this teams success. batum is better as a shooter and lin is elite at attacking the rim, so why does batum handle the ball so much? this trio will be the only way this team makes a playoff push. all other players should be used a support players for this trio. they are clearly the best players on the team and they all need to play well to win against good teams.

“That’s what I wanted to do for a long time,” said Lin. I hope MJ was listening.

  • sport

This is the first locker room interview since Lin joined the Hornets! Goes to show it’s really all about playing starting role, long minutes, and scoring! Although I did enjoy Lin not being bother with annoying questions after every game!

  • NONONO

    they got the wrong picture.

  • Warren

IMPROVING EVERY SEASON! Glad to hear coach Clifford appreciate Lin’s game:

“When he first entered the league, when he got going with the Knicks, people thought he wasn’t good going to his left. Now, he’s equally good. People were saying he’s not a great range shooter. This summer he worked with his shooting coach. He addresses his weakness every offseason”

  • blubell

When will they change the pic? lol

  • blubell

No, there few locker room interviews before but it has been a while since he was interviewed after a win.

  • sport

I had to do a double take when reading the title! (didn’t watch the game)! This is the moment we’ve been waiting for! I hope MJ saw this game and knows who the real star of his team is! Lin needs to be the starting SG/PG with heavy minutes to shine! The sad part is, it took Batum to be out this game for Lin to finally start! Lin should’ve gone for 40 pts!

  • sport

listening?! I hope MJ could be there to watch the game in person to realize Lin’s the person he needs to sign to a max contract and promote as star! Not Batum and Walker!

  • CJSHYY

Lin jumped so high!!! MW again.

  • blubell
  • InfiniteWisdom

nah. batum will be the 2. pj is just a place holder for mkg. lin just needs to play more minutes. when he is playing with the starters, he has to get touches, has to get picks. that’s linsanity. that leads to wins. when he plays with the bench, let him continue to do what he’s doing, leading the bench to one of the best in the nba…

starting is impossible due to politics. unless they bench mkg if/when he comes back. but even if he doesnt come back this season, cliff is setting up roles for next season…

When i saw Coach Clifford’s press conference, I forgave him for mistreating Lin so far!! Seriously, the guy was so honest with good words for lIn. hopefully now, no more PJ Hairston nonsense.

    STARTING 5 should be (IMO)

    Jefferson
    Zeller
    Batum
    Walker
    Lin (primary PG)

    3RD SEED IN EAST GUARANTEE!!!

  • CJSHYY

Why he’s in Lakers’ uniform? LOL!

  • blubell

    So quick!

  • #QuickCut .. should be a franchise name for future JLin Barber Shop lol

  • sws94

Lineup won’t change. Really deep team because Lin leads the bench. What might change is Lin’s usage. Real usage and I think his minutes may be 27-30 in maybe most games going forward.

  • Acbc

I’ve been following the raptors and he’s impressed me.

  • CJSHYY

I think Cliff & Lin already worked out the problems. Now he needs Lin to help him win the games. Lin will get his min. Just hope Lin can take more shots per game from now on.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Guess this game will be in memory forever as I have watched the best game of JLin with such a great stat as well. I didn’t watch any live Linsanity games. So, this Linsanity 2 meant more to me. What a bonus when it also fell on my birthday on US date:-) It’s 18th here in Brissie:-)

  • Warren

WHEN it comes to pick-and-roll, Lin is as elite as any pg in the league!! and i’m not saying this as a fanboy. this is the truth.

  • LinMad

problem is that PJ has been shooting well so it does not warrant Lin taking over PJ’s spot. Also I think Cliff still needs Lin in 2nd unit. Brian Roberts won’t lead the bench.

  • orLinaryjoe

    Happy Birthday indeed!

  • Warren

    you make a good point.

  • CJSHYY

I like today’s lineup & playing time for Lin. Bc he really let Lin to run 2nd unit. That’s good idea playing time to me. Of course w more freedom on court w Kemba.

  • LinMad

i’m about to watch the game again on Toronto feed to see what the fuss was all about. I heard Toronto really praised Lin.

  • grover chang

  • JJ Hui

  • JLin Fan from Australia

  • Acbc

Funny thing was that. Had written this morning to Brent about how I really was excited about Lin’s recent form on his shot. We’ve had past discussions about it and I wanted to tell him to look up a couple of picture posted a couple of threes ago from Lin warming up. It was almost perfect form. I told him that I was really looking forward to the rest of the season because his stroke mechanics looked just about perfect.

  • Briiick

Hornets is better with Lin at the starting back court than Batum there. It’s unlikely for them to offer Batum a max and neither of them is sure to return next season.

  • DX

Lin scored 35 points within the flow of the offense. Imagine if a hit a few more shots and tried to get his a little more, he would’ve gotten 50 points easy. Our boy jlin is gifted, he should be an X-men. Where is Professor Xavier, he needs to recruit “Havok”, cuz thats what lin does, creates havoc for opposing defenses.

JLin was right that he and Kemba were so tired

When Clifford called a timeout, the Hornets were gasping for air.
Lin had to bend for a good 3-4 seconds to catch his breath in this frame with 4:55 left in Q4.

  • sws94

Yeah, that’s why they got a little sloppy. They sort of got a second wind in OT. But that PJ 3 helped, took some of the scoring pressure off of just Kemba and Lin.

The best has yet to come 😉

  • MorlockO

He will be the coach. They will play run and gun.

There’s Colangelo there. They kept Brown cause they didn’t want to fire him after all he’s been thru.

At least it’s what I suppose.

  • I finally finished watching most of the 4th quarter and OT game.
It was one clutch performance by JLin who made all 3 field goals in the Q4 and OT until Kemba, Hairston joined him

What was important was the great interaction of Lin, Kemba and Clifford in the last moment of the game.
The communication on defense, the Kemba/Lin conversation and the final embrace after the whistle blew and after JLin breathed a sigh of relief. That was beautiful basketball and a great team win when they had nothing left in the tank.

This could be an important Kemba and Lin moment if they build on it. Let’s hope so!

sport, he’s starting because Batum didn’t play and only because Batum didn’t play. The second unit is critical for Charlotte’s success and he’s leader of the 2nd unit. But he plays alongside Kemba and Batum also and this game is a real boon to his chemistry with Kemba which didn’t really click into gear before this game. When Lin comes off the bench it won’t be a “benching”, it’ll be back to his role as leader of one of the best benches in the NBA.

  • sws94

    and that’s what they deserve.

  • sws94

Not necessarily focusing on the negative, just his omission is awful. I understand they do this with other players too. ESPN is supposed to be a top sports channel. That’s a terrible job of highlights for the NBA’s top scorer tonight to not have one highlight featuring him.

  • sws94

Stephanie and Dell are good. Dell really likes Lin. Eric is over the top. If they can mellow him out a little then he’s OK.

  • Singapore BB Fan

Nice moments ….one thing mentioned by Dell Curry about Lin was…the gel doesn’t hold up well for 47 mins….LOL

  • DaBoss

It’s ok – of course we’d like Jlin to get all the credit he deserves in the media, but often doesn’t get. We should just try to promote and give clicks to those in the media that DO recognize Jeremy for his talent and what he brings to the game.

  • Brent Yen

“even Bleachers is better”….this is a serious insult to ESPN…..jk…

  • blubell
  • Fevers End

So did anyone tell him that he had something on his eyebrows or…?

  • james brown

being in bench is not a problem, Cliff needs to learn that though JLIN comes from, the bench , his time management must ensure the combination of KW/Batum and JLIN must be for a longer period of the game to ensure stability and cohesion.

  • james brown

starts the alignment on this game!!!!

  • flash

It looks like Lin got a steal in the highlights but it wasn’t shown in the box score. Can someone email the NBA?

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Kemba and Lin have played a terrific game and they couldn’t have won the game by each one alone. It’s a total team effort. PJ, Hawes, Zeller, Kaminsky, Marvin, Lamb all contributed. Hope they blend together and take the game to the next level.

  • Acbc

    The force awakens!

  • Acbc

    Lower than BS cow pies.

Hey Brent, didn’t I tell you that I was really really excited about Lin’s perfec from! Wow finally Hairsanity when you lease expected it.

  • 1mtoldman

the key thing here is (and i kept posting this last nite) you had basically all the top sup sup sup superstars in the nba not named steph curry playing last nite in just 3 games on tap and here they are:

    harden 25
    durant 25
    westbrook 27
    james 33

(and the old faded out superstar kobe 22):

and who tops them all on this

    one night:

    jeremy lin!

  • Acbc

Like I said, LIN IS LIKE “IDGAF ANYMORE. I’VE GOT MY PARACHUTE AND I’M READY TO PULL THE STRING. I DON’T NEED THE HORNETS NO MORE.”

It’s amazing how well you can play when you no longer feel the pressure like the stars get all the time.

  • your son’s voltaire

PJ allowed Derozan to go off for 31 points. he did made it up with that 3 pointer in overtime. but the game really shouldn’t have been that close in the first place. they really need to find a better 3&D guy

  • 1mtoldman

seeing as how hairsanity coincided with the us pre release of the new star wars movie (my son was attending it at the same time of the game) how am i the only one on here to make some reference to the force being strong in this one (lin)?

oh checking side boxes i see somewhere the old alphabet professor had a reference as well.

pretty significant popular culture coincidence imo.

  • Acbc

I already said earlier that the force had awaken. Lol

  • Michael

    Lol.

  • Spot

Looks like one of the All Blacks doing the haka 😀

  • 1mtoldman

and i duly noted that (or at least attempted to).

whats surprising even to me checking some stats updated how this one game could turn around season long trends so spectacularly for lin.

i guess because he essentially played the equivalent of 2 games last nite (had only been played 23 minutes per game) and because only 20 some games into the season, well his lite usage previously accelerated the effect of this performance to wit:

his field goal % downtrend reversed now above last season in la.
effective field goal % now also above last season in la
points per game post linsanity new york downtrend reversed now above last season in la

and perhaps most signficantly: for (again) the first time since linsanity new york his offensive/defensive rating moved into positive territory and equally that of linsanity new york!

call it hairsanity or linsanity 2.0 or linsanity charlotte or linsanity south; if (and thats certainly a big question) this reversal could continue even in a modest way it would
    be highly significant.

for now clearly a forceful moment in the saga of jeremy lin. (how many sequels?)

  • 1mtoldman

do the general audience here know what is being referred to by “all blacks”?

i guess if its mostly an asian audience would; when i was in asia at the time the american baseball world series was on but was insignificant in coverage to the rugby world cup.

  • Hope

Wow, let’s the new year celebration begin. A great game, followed by great news of mda hired. Just in time for linsanity return.

  • 1mtoldman

in danger of over posting here but keep seeing post hairsanity/force awakens stats of interest.

question: what do derrick favors, karl anthony-towns, dirk nowitski, demarcus cousins, draymond green have in common with jeremy lin?

answer: after last nites hair-raised performance they are all tied for 29th in a stat i like a lot: points per shot. (among 120 qualifed players in nba; lin actually needed the bump of minutes last nite to become qualified).

that puts him 5th in the league among point guards and yes #1 on the hornets a couple ticks ahead of batum and a couple more ticks after that ahead of kemba.

interesting side note: who are the two lowest rated ppser’s dead last among the 120?

answer: the two highest paid players in the league kobe and joe johnson.

obviously at some point at least with long term contracts in professional sports in general and in the nba in particular you dont get what you pay for.

  • CJSHYY

and all these are defacto starters with big contracts..notice that/

Are you guys ready for Jeremy to handle a bigger role?Let’s face it, Lin would never be a man in Hornets uniform,he is already on his prime and it’s about time for him to get his own team.

  • CJSHYY

Associate head coach is not head coach…. not sure how much power MDA can get?

  • cdblue10

Colangelo and MDA are best buddies, noone can deny that MDA system will be the frontier of this team.On this case,Brown is just a front in coaching but MDA will be the one calling all the shots, politics remember.

  • KHuang

Lin could do games like this EVERY NIGHT if he were allowed to.

  • Chopz

Am i in choir? Cuz u are preaching to it.

  • Chopz

U are not Han “Solo” on this one : ) A few people made references to star wars this morning and last night. I wanted to let u guys do all the star wars stuff, but the force awakens me, or is that the alarm clock for work?

  • Chopz

Over the top like sylvester stallone, winner takes it all, and lin took it, love it.

  • Acbc

You know that Khuang always called Lin the Skywalker for his aerial assaults on the rim. We’re all pretty much sci fi geeks here so things like “use the force, Lin…” Is almost routine. Lol

To your point though, the timing of the event was from a galaxy far far away. What is his fg% now?

  • Dan Ang

    Hallelujah!

No. 47 minutes? No. He can score in the 20s many nights. But some nights aren’t your night. He can have more of these, I’ll agree to that.

  • sws94

It’s the same position as Patrick Ewing on Charlotte.

DeRozan is a star player. He scores that much against others. He’s going to get his points.

NYC fans love Lin. They’ll never forget that magic Christams when Santa left them a special woopas called Linsanity. Dolan was so naughty with the fortune cookie bit that Santa took Lin away.

But human nature being what it is, it seems that everyone wants to low ball Lin. It started with Stanford when they tried to get Lin to play as a sign on….first time a Cali Allstate player of the year was passed over I believe. Then Dolan, now Charlette. Do you think they’ll try to lowball Lin again? I’m betting on it.

As we all say, Lin always gets the Asian discount.

  • KHuang

Actually, I’m talking about WINNING THE GAME via TEAM PLAY.

I’m probably the only person who’s not particularly moved by Lin scoring 35.

Usually in Lin games, it’s Lin’s teammates that are doing the scoring. But this game, Lin was the one who Toronto let shoot.

I really don’t care who does the scoring as long as it is LIN’S TEAM going way ahead.

  • CJSHYY

If so…. Don’t think that really matter….. maybe in 76 will be different?

  • wandertheglobe

I proudly own one of the All Blacks polo shirts I got while in NZ. :).

They are also known as the Originals, as the All Blacks name emerged during this tour when, according to team member Billy Wallace, a London newspaper reported that the New Zealanders played as if they were “all backs”.

  • sws94

That I agree with. But I think Lin need to think scoring a little more. He’s goes too far with set my team mates up rather than shoot and we saw that in the Magic game. This game, he said I need to put the ball in the basket but still played team ball.

  • sws94

I have no idea. It’s not Lin’s team and it’s reorganizing itself to try to become competitive and not one of the worse in the league. I think it’ll take time for that to happen. I just see it as having Lin’s great former coach for now but that team is a mess.

  • Acbc

I agree, it’s Lin’s useage that is a problem to me. What truly separates Lin from all other PGs is that he possess the speed and quickness to physically out maneuver his opponents AS WELL AS, the speed of intellect to maneuver his whole team and make them an extension of himself. That’s where his true magic is. Last night, Lin ran a lot of perfect cuts for easy passes. People don’t realize that that receiver skill is like elite NFL receiver skill to recognize passing lanes for his QB. Good receivers make average QBs look good. In one of the highlights from a few threads ago, Batum was almost trapped in the right corner when Lin ran a cut to give Batum an out. Lin made Batum look good, but people don’t see Lin’s court vision and bball intelligence at work.

The bigger problem is that when they play a tougher defence, those passing lanes become much harder to anticipate and create. That’s when you need Lin, the master of Chaos, the wrecking ball of defences to smash up defensive assignments. Without chemistry and resistance from teammates to do things differently, all the good things that makes Lin special is just lost and he becomes a one dimensional score that can’t bring the Lin express home.

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

There is no valid reason for Lin not to start. Lin, Walker and Batum should close every game AND start every game. Between the first 6 minutes and the close of each game, Lin and Walker’s minutes need to be staggered so that at least one of those two PGs is on the court at all times. That way “the bench” is always being led by a competent playmaker. If they were able to beat a quality team like the Raptors with Lin starting then it will be even better and easier when Batum is contributing his playmaking. With or without Batum, there is no need for 3rd stringer Roberts, unless it’s a blowout.

Anyone who says that Lin cannot start because “he’s needed to lead the bench” is ignorant. It’s sad that so many of Lin’s fans believe and repeat such nonsense. For the sake of Lin’s prestige, future contracts, future endorsements, legacy, etc. he needs to reclaim his rightful place as an NBA starter.

  • DX

Agreed. This game was showing starters much better than WO Lin.

  • Brent Yen

Yep …I have replied to you…go dig it out!…lol jk

  • DX

Agreed, when Lin was play with Batum and Kemba, he didn’t have many chance. This game is different , he must step up.

  • Brent Yen

    Word

  • DX

    Just let Lin decide.

  • CJSHYY

Last night, Lin started but Cliff also let him run O w 2nd unit that’s the perfect game plan for Lin.

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

You just have to stagger Lin and Kemba’s minutes in the middle of the game. Most NBA teams stagger the starters’ minutes. You never really see all starters and all bench players getting all their minutes in parallel blocks of time.

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

This really convoluted idea started with the Lakers. To avoid playing with Kobe the ballhog, everyone started saying Lin needs to lead the bench unit. Aside from Lin’s teams, no other NBA teams (or fans) put so much emphasis on the bench. You start the five best players at their respective positions that you have, period. Backups are used just to give the starters a breather. If you need a good playmaker on the court at all times you stagger their minutes. You don’t demote a “star” to the bench unless of course its Lin.

  • heart

There was a clip in the above video showing Lin jogging inside the hallway of Orlando Magic from the last game. I believe Lin does this is to get his back and body stay warmed up, moving, and ready to play when he enters the game. Lin is definitely a rhythm player. Therefore, Lin needs consistent PT. It’s one more reason to let him start and/or insert him early into game to get into rhythm quickly, instead of erratic insertions and making him sitting on the bench a long time. Coaches should know their personnel.

  • CaliUSMC

One of my fav movies growing up

  • heart

Remember the .07 left on the clock when Raptors Coach called a timeout while Derozan made a 3 to win the game? That to me was pure Divine intervention. The game could have been over at that moment if not for those sequences. Truly, last night game happened on 17 Dec and the tie changed at .07 to OT. Remarkable turn of event for Lin bc he and Hornets came out on top.

  • sws94

I think it’s strength. As Clifford said, if a big guy is on your hip it takes a lot of strength to have the ball and the dribble and probe. Lin is an immensely strong man and can take a lot of hard contact, shake it off and perform.

  • NONONO

I am all in for Lin to join 76ers. No matter how good Lin is, No starting position and no consistent minutes for him.

  • Chopz

Nice, great taste in movies there, they don’t make em like they used to.

  • David Kim

More pressure on hornets whether they should start Lin.
    1) Lin playing well , his value will go up next year
    2) mike dantoni signs with sixers as a associate coach

Which one do you guys prefer?
    1) Lin to sixers as a starting pg and reunite with MDA associate coach
    2) stays hornets as a back up or starter

  • NONONO

#1! Lin and the ways he plays will thrill 76ers players, coaches and fans. The problem is 76ers might want to continue to tank this season. So Lin has to wait until the season is over.

  • Chopz

Yes, Prince Lin, return of the king. You are right Gandalf the Grey.

  • sws94

I like Kemba. I think he wants to be the man and get his stats but he doesn’t mind sharing being the man. Sometimes someone will have better stats, sometime she’ll have the best ones. He seems relieved that Batum and Lin can help him. Kemba seemed wiped out in his post-game interview but he said they needed what they got from Lin last night. And he said he hopes Lin can continue to play this way. I almost had the sense he thinks Lin is either being held back or holds himself back or something. But not that much, just a little.

It’s still going to take time for Batum, Lin and Kemba to click to maximize what Lin can do on the court together. So, I’m expecting to see some of the same problems we saw before with Lin on one side and the ball not coming to him in future games. But there should be less of that. It won’t completely disappear, in my opinion, but eventually more Lin involvement balance should happen.

Batum and Kemba and coach know what Lin is capable of. No one is surprised, and Kemba was happy to see Lin play to his capabilities last night. It was a huge game, a 3 game losing streak would have been tough to swallow.

    http://www.nba.com/hornets/video/teams/hornets/2015/12/18/1450411093393-151217postkemba.mov-179239

That mess started even before the lakers with the rockets.

  • martan267
  • sws94

I prefer Lin enjoys himself on the court and continues to watch film and play the best he can for the team he’s on while he develops chemistry with players. I don’t think he’s thinking beyond that. He’s really a 6th man now and I hope that continues on this season. I have zero interest in Philly. They are the worst team in the league and he’s on a playoff contender now.,

  • awesome observation.

If the game ended with a loss, it would be heart-breaking and Lin’s 35pts will have a “but they lost” footnote.

But .07 Raptors shot undone by the coach’s timeout to put #7 Lin on the spotlight again on Dec 17?
    Divine Lintervention indeed!

  • That’s the truth. If it’s all basketball decision, Lin/Kemba/Batum should start and close. Period.
Lin proved he can be the shutdown defender to start and end the game. Why would it be a problem to have 3 playmakers to start and finish strong?

They can still stagger the min during 2nd quarter to 3rd quarter so there’s at least 1 playmaker with the unit.

Ball is on the Hornets’ court now. What will they do?
Keep hiding Lin on the 2nd unit and he can walk away at end of season for a more prominent role.

  • The tricky part is Lin likes BOTH playing his brand of basketball and winning.

If Hornets offer him a starting position as an SG/PG, he will stay as a Hornets because they’re winning and he plays his style of basketball. But if not, Lin has to accept the possibility of not achieving his personal goals of being a starter, an All-Star but might contend for the championship. He has 57 more games to think about it 🙂

76ers is still iffy at the moment because MDA is not the head coach and they have a losing mentality that is so hard to overcome. Personally, I want to see JLin in an MDA system because it will definitely make him an All-Star but only if his team is winning. I’d wait to see how things develop in 76ers or other teams with MDA as a head coach before wishing JLin to be reunited with him.

  • sws94

I’m only addressing you psalm234. Having a strong bench is what makes Charlotte a contending team. However they want to do it with staggering Lin they can but I think that Lin will stay with the 2nd unit. That doesn’t mean he won’t have an expanded role. I think the idea of PJ on the best guy is, and I’ve said this before, it isn’t a huge loss if he gets in foul trouble. Lin had 4 fouls in the 3Q, he takes gambles defensively, and I just think of him coming off the bench is keeping strong energy flow in the whole team’s game. Cliff’s pretty clear on his idea for this team and that’s not to let Batum guard the best player, have PJ do it, so Batum can conserve energy. Batum is still going to be the primary playmaker. Clifford isn’t going to decide changes on one monster game by Lin.

Clifford knows what Lin can do. That’s why he started and not Lamb. He made great comments on him in the post-game. But looking at the overall team perspective, Charlotte barely won that game yesterday. One time out not called and its just a loss with Lin and Kemba sort of choking at the end of the game with a horrible possession. Luckily it went into overtime, an over-tired Kemba and Lin got a second win and produced mightily.

I’m proud of Lin’s game. Lin wasn’t particularly effective starting the 3rd in the Magic game but I think that’s more the Magic shooting lights out and the whole team being out of sync. Last night was a different story. Lin can and I think will thrive on the Charlottes. An opportunity was opened tonight and he shined. He’s getting starter’s minutes now. He’s one of the most prepared for by opponent’s coaches members of the team. He’s a game wrecker. He’ll start more games for several reasons, but he’s that bench leader in one of the top benches in the NBA. I think he’s staying there.

If he starts more, great however.

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

Yes he was unfairly demoted to the bench at the start of his second year with the Rockets but I don’t recall any fans saying Lin is better off that way. But now there are quite a few fans who stubbornly argue that they prefer Lin coming off the bench. Really weird phenomenon.

  • DX
  • sws94

Disagree with the MDA part only because it’s another he can’t go left thing. Lin is good only with MDA is being disproven now. He can have monster games with McHale and now Clifford. He doesn’t always need the ball in his hands. And I’m not convinced that MDA has Lin as his desired only PG. I think he has a list of desired PGs. And I think Philly is a bad city to play in and a losing organization with a toxic culture. It needs more time to right itself.

MDA’s reunion with Nash didn’t go as planned and I fear even with one with Lin, it may be more disappointing than Linsanity 2.

  • Rzo Vlade
  • sws94

The team has to go out and get a 3 and D PG that’s better than Beverley. Any decent PG can’t play with Harden.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Wise man always brings his people or the people he knows best with him wherever he goes. Phil Jackson did that and Jerry Colangelo is doing just that. Mike would not take the job as assistant/associate coach to work under a tanking coach. Brown will be fired or demoted by the end of this season. His recent extension was the compensation of full cooperation with GM/owner all these years. His record will not help him to land another HC job.

MDA will become a head coach again and he will make 76ers a contender in the East with his more mature young players. This team does not have the ego mememe like Melo or Kobe to make it hard to run his offensive system the right way and he’ll be totally in control of them.

After the draft picks next summer, MDA will push to get Jeremy Lin. Lin is the best if not the only who can run his offense effectively. And Lin knows if he wants to be a starter again, this is his best chance. If Batum stays and when MKG is back, there’ll be no room for Lin to be a starter in Charlotte.

    Just my take.

  • NONONO

100% agreed. – “Lin knows if he wants to be a starter again, this is his only chance. “

  • DaBoss

We can speculate and opine and have all the preferences we want. But longtime Lin supporters know that we can never really know where Jeremy will end up. It’s a God thing.

  • Acbc

Lol, Nash and MDA were ambushed by Kobe. Lakers did everything possible to give Kobe another ring but that wasn’t good enough for the egomaniac. He wanted to win only on his own terms with him being the star.

Phili is bad for multiple reasons but not because they don’t have talent. They need guidance from above and beside them. If you can’t see that then we can’t even discuss it. When you’ve drafted numerous top picks and have subjected them to mental beat downs and force them to lose, what you get is a bunch of kids lashing out blindly. Okafor did just that in Boston when fans jeered them. Even without Lin, I expect MDA and GM to bring about big changes that will build a winning team. I expect them to have at least 20 wins this year from the balance of the schedule. These kids want to win so bad, they can taste it. With the right leadership they can do it.

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

Why would it be a problem to have 3 playmakers: It’s impossible to have too much offense or defense, they both help you win. The only reason is to give more glory to Batum and Kemba. I’m afraid that Kemba is willing to share with Lin only as Batum’s replacement. Once Batum is back, he may insist that 3 is a crowd again. The FO (MJ) needs to realize that Lin is worth accommodating as much as the other 2. If last night was enough to flip the switch everything could suddenly change.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

The future is still unknown but looking back whoever made the decision with Lin to play cheap but for just one year was a genius.

  • sws94

Good points but no need for the lol. Phil is one of the greatest coaches ever with how many rings? It’s taking time for things to happen with the Knicks. And it’s a youngster that is the toast of the town in NY. NY is for Knicks basketball Porzingis town. But will the Knicks make the playoffs this year?

  • that’s why I said Lin needs to assess the situation even with MDA as the head coach.

The most ideal situation is having Lin as the new Nash in his system. In LA, Kobe got in the way of Nash being the main ball-handler.

Clifford himself said MDA looks for opportunity to be reunited with Lin in his team again. So that’s quite a vouch from MDA’s part.

There’s no denying that PGs will benefit from MDA system. Look at Kendall Marshall racking up assists even when he can’t score well.

If it’s for Lin’s career with ideal situation of MDA wanting him to be PG, it certainly has the highest potential to cement Lin as one of the most elite PGs. And I want Lin’s career to achieve its highest potential.
My only concern is if MDA team doesn’t have personnel to win or in a bad losing culture like 76ers.
I hope for a different team. Let’s say teams like Pelicans to partner with Anthony Davis or Detroit with Drummond

But we’re just musing now. A lot of things have to go right. As of now, Lin is playing ball with an unselfish team like the Hornets. That’s what we should be thankful for because it’s real for now =) The ideal situation with MDA does not exist yet.

  • Acbc

Knick’s have a great new talent that’s true. The big elephant is Melo! As long as Knick’s have Melo, they have a star loser that will drag them down.

  • CJSHYY

Lawson has been played bad in Rox & I think he sure wants to get out of Rox ASAP.

  • CJSHYY

    Of course not…

  • sws94

Melo is why I stopped watching the Knicks. Lin is why I started watching them again. I’m still watching Lin and not the Knicks so much though I look at Porzingis highlights.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Wondering any private texts between Lin and MDA last night congratulating each other and more? My guess would be YES.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Yes, that’s why both sides are in full cooperating.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    who’s CLF?

  • CJSHYY

I think this is really a nightmare for Lawson. Don’t know where he can go?

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Never easy to be in Lin’s shoes.

  • sws94

I think the real question is does Lin want to get really comfortable in a system with most of the same core players in a city, media environment he enjoys and have a chance at making noise in the playoffs or does he want to spend his prime years with his favorite coach in a rebuilding system where his favorite coach isn’t even the head coach. Or will another opportunity present itself. It’s all premature really, he’s now getting much more comfortable in his present situation and I don’t think has a lot of time to think of what’s going on in Philly.

  • Brent Yen

There are a lot of them….LOL

  • sws94

I’m not a huge fan of his but he’s a much better player than what he’s showing in the Rox. It’s the Harden effect. It’s amazing how well Lin did there playing with Harden. But Lin doesn’t want to play with Harden again. And word is getting around the NBA, that PGs aren’t going to get to play their game next to Harden.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    It stands for?

  • Brent Yen

    Crazy Lin Fans…LOL

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    Ouch.

  • Whitman Lam

Lawson is getting 12-15 minutes of PT per game. And a lot of those minutes are with Harden on the floor. It’s very difficult to put up numbers under those conditions, as we saw with Lin.

  • true, I don’t like 76ers prospect with MDA only as the Associate Coach plus losing culture.

We know MDA will try to get a Head Coach position next season. We’ll have to revisit the situation at the moment if it’s better than the Hornets.

I’m sure Lin and the JLin team will do the same.

  • Brent Yen

I clearly remembered that I was debating with a hater (yeah I know, silly me) who said 2 yrs ago..that Lawson wound be great with Harden, and we were just finding excuses for Lin. LOL

  • Brent Yen

The truth is, MDA never won the war of politic……so….

  • CJSHYY

Ya! Harden didn’t want Lawson plays next to him …. So glad Lawson can get out so early.

  • Guest

Go for the money, go to the team that make the highest offer. All other promises can change over night.

  • NONONO

Here is my wild thoughts about 76ers’ move. – If Lin joins 76ers, MDA will become the head coach.

76ers wanted to sign Lin last summer. But, for whatever reason, it did not work out. 76ers is in tanking because they has no much chance to make playoffs with current roster. So they are getting more top picks. They need a great team leader (with less ego), organizer and believer to make the young team work next season and future. Lin is a perfect fit. But they know Lin would not go to 76ers if the coach do not fit for him. That is why 76ers hired MDA, but only as an associate coach because they are not 100% sure Lin would join them yet. Everyone knows Lin is great at PnR. Clifford “promised” him PnR. But it is not going to happen because Hornets current system wouldn’t let Lin play any major role. So I am all in for Lin to join 76ers.

  • we know they text each other during season when Lin was in HOU and MDA in LA so it’s very possible.
    Networking is never wrong =)

Personally, I wouldn’t go for Lin to play for MDA in 76ers as only an Associate Coach in the losing culture.
We know MDA wants to get a Head Coach position somewhere else so IF he does, that might be a better situation than the Hornets.

For now, we’re enjoying JLin LINNING again with his first 30+ points in 3 years!
    That’s a MILESTONE indeed

Now the NBA takes notice again that Linsanity can strike more frequently given the chance. This can be HUGE!

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

Isn’t it kinda funny how before the season started all the NBA experts ranked the Hornets so low? And then when MKG went down, the Hornets were expected to tank I guess. Other Hornets would have to step up but nobody mentioned Lin. And they’re not going to admit how wrong they were until they have to. They’re hoping that the Hornets fade away before the playoffs. No one realizes that the more minutes Lin plays and the bigger his role, the better the Hornets play.

  • yeah, that’s MDA weakness
He’s not easy to get along with FOs.

He has to do a lot of things right to get another Head Coach position

Hey, did you watch the game or just the highlights? Pretty awesome, right =)

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Of course psalm, this season is still long and much to enjoy with Lin in the Hornets’ uniform.

  • sws94

The 76ers are 1-26. And that 1 win was against the almost equally dysfunctional Lakers. Can’t get excited about a team like that. You don’t turn around that type of losing in one year. I don’t care who the coach is. And they’ve had other years of really bad records. Okafor is alright, but he’s not my first choice of big man for Lin too. I see little appeal in that team and I’ve never liked the culture of Philadelphia, the city, the press, none of it. At one time they had Dr. J. But it has been quite awhile since they’ve been a respectable organization.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

It showed that some called themselves experts can be really ignorance.

  • Absolutely! We want Lin to get at least 5 more 30+ games plus clutch playoff performance =)
    yes, we’re greedy now lol

Then we can have 5-6 teams with multiple bids of starting PG for JLin!

  • takemeback2reaganyears

They have picks lots of them and they can trade for talents. They will clean house this off season.

  • Curry’s dance expresses what JLin Fans feel at the moment =)

    https://twitter.com/warriors/status/677871043323797504

  • takemeback2reaganyears

The more teams bidding the merry. With this performance we need to push Lin to all star game. Speaking of that I am going to vote now.

  • sws94

He’s an all-star caliber player. It’s just his role and game-changing abilities show up in areas that aren’t respected in all-star considerations.

  • blubell

It seems they are already doing that starting with the FO. They would need veterans, especially at guard positions since they’ve been drafting bigs. We’ll see how well they clean house…

  • JustSayNo2HardensIso

Just watched Coach Cliffords post game interview. He was very complimentary of Lin. Even mentioned how good Jeremy’s defense is AND says Jeremy can play a lot of minutes without getting tired and without coach having to worry about him.
Hopefully coach is slowly seeing what a huge impact Lin has on the game.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    still, voted.

  • JustSayNo2HardensIso

I think 76ers will push hard for Jeremy in the off season.
    1) MDA has always said how he would love to reunite with Jeremy.
    2) They have a lot of bigs already and need a quality point guard to run MDA’s offense
    3) They have a super young team who can run. perfect for MDA’s system
    4) Coangelo and MDA are best buds. They saw a lot of success in Phoenix
    5) It’s no secret that Sam Hinkie really loves Jeremy. Don’t forget the story where he kept the pen that Jeremy used to sign the Houston contract.
    6) 76ers have been wanting Jeremy the past few seasons. Imagine how much they will want him now that Jeremy is playing great and now that he is being recognized for his amazing offense.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Oh yeah those min last night showed he can’t afford to keep Lin on the bench.

  • NONONO

the question now is how to use him when Batum and Al are back since Al clogs the paint.

  • Briiick

If they offer him a franchise contract, plus MDA there to coach, he will join.

  • sws94

    Don’t think this was posted.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

MDA and $$$$$ will make them top of the list.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

unknown and remain to be seen.

  • sws94

Yeah but 47 minutes is a lot of minutes. Lin was exhausted. He was set to play 42 for regulation. Lin is probably best at 32. I think he’ll get around 26-29 in most games but go over 35 in some.

  • sws94

Al’s minutes may drop against some opponents. Al may also not finish a lot of games.

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

Last night Lin shattered yet another urban legend accepted by many of his fans. How many times have we heard that Lin plays poorly in back-to-back games? I’ve seen otherwise loyal fans post matter-of-factly that Lin simply lacks stamina. So Lin played 47 minutes in the tail end of a B2B, shot his best % while shooting in volume, and maintained his lock-down defense. And how did he start the overtime on his tired legs? He nailed a 3 of course.

  • blubell

LOL. where did you find this?

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

Why is he best at 32? What is Kemba best at? Why has Kemba averaged 35 minutes for the last 4 seasons? Does Kemba have more stamina than Lin?

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

He has the potential for 1 billion votes from fans whose “all-star considerations” are different from yours.

  • sws94

So what? All-star games are show-off exhibitions. I’m talking about all-star considerations of a mainstream but everything I say you seem to take offense to and it’s getting old. Do yourself a favor and ignore me then.

  • sws94

    qc thundercats on Hornets Planet.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Stop allowing the often wrong and self called experts telling us who should be voted in for all-star. It’s for the fans and we should vote for whom we want to see that weekend. My 2 simple votes: W = Curry and E = Lin.

  • KHuang

Many Lin fans like myself had been saying FOR YEARS that Lin’s alleged lack of stamina in back to back games was a MYTH.

  • KHuang

It wouldn’t be the first time Lin turned around a minimum wage minimum age team.

Lin did that already in Houston before Harden was traded for.

Houston would have been better off not making the Harden trade.

  • blubell
  • blubell
  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

If you don’t mind, Lin wants to be an All-Star. He said so. It’s considered recognition that you’re a great player. But it’s supposed to be voted on by fans so it’s also a popularity contest and Lin is very popular. I don’t take offense to everything you say but most of it. You are a Lin critic and a doubter and you always nitpick or at best give him back-handed compliments. You even had to pick on his shooting in last night’s spectacular performance. Intuitively I knew he had shot well but I didn’t realize that it was his best % when shooting in volume.

It’s also annoying how everything is about you. You don’t want Lin to do this or that. You seem to be inside everyone’s head. You know what Kemba’s intentions are, Lin’s, everybody’s. If you don’t want feedback to your posts, then stop posting.

Why would anyone hope Jeremy continues as a 6th man when he proved again last night (as he has done many times in the past and NOT just this one game) that he is even better as a starter if given the minutes? SMH.

  • Interesting QFTOS (Quotes From The Other Site) from Raptors GM Board

    Enjoy!

    Jeremy Lin Game winner confirmed.
    ->Please no.
-> I’m still scarred from the first one. Bad enough to see the Knicks have a home game at the ACC and then hit a gamwinner.

    yess my boy lin starting
Yeah, he’s the one with the chicken on his head getting ready to lay an egg.

    Jeremy lins hair is disgusting
Lin looks stupid with that haircut
-> He has the best hairstyle when he slicks it back lol. He’s just having fun with it.

    lin killing us
tross you gotta shut down lin man
    Lin embarrassing ross

Between PJ and Lin, there’s some pretty awful hair on that Hornets team. Not to mention the whole hippie look Spencer Hawes is aiming for.
    Jeremy “Scissorhair” Lin

    Lin is a Raptor killer
Raptor killers J Lin and Kemba bout to blow this one out

    lin looks ridiculous
To his credit, he’s blowing by our PGs. The hair must make him more aerodynamic, because I don’t remember him ever being known for his quickness.

During the height of his Linsanity days he was known for his exceptional first step. When he injured his knee he noticeably was a step slower.
he’s always been one of the quicker guards in the NBA. People just don’t associate him with “quick” because he’s Asian.
    lol that might be true.

    Bring Lin home already.
Revival of Linsanity! No wait…it’s just that Ross sucks on D.

Why do people don’t like Lin? He’s one of the more creative quicker guards that can create fro himself imo.

Lin looks godlike against only us lol

Lin has completely shut down Lowry for 0 pts while torching him on the other end.
    can’t stop lin

    Amazing Lin is 8/9 18pts / 4 assists.
Ross can’t stay in front of anyone.
he was blowing by Joseph too
    Lin allstar stats
    Lin looks like a Sayain

Cory is really struggling. His play has gone down a notch or two since he hit the game winner against the Wiz.

    not watching… what happened?
-> Lin used his porcupine hair attack on Demar’s hip.

Hornets stylin on us with all their underrated pickups from Lin to Hawes. Imagine if Batum was playing lol Hornets are a deep team if they stay healthy and once MKG comes back.

I honestly rather have Lin than Ross.
Hornets backcourt just stylin right now.

Lin..you at least need to dye that blonde..embrace the full super saiyen. Style.
    Defense has been awful.
-> that would be horrendous if Lin pulled a George Hill. My god. my eyes.
-> He doesn’t even need to go SSJ against us… This is base form

    ross getting murdered by lin

Lin moves well without the ball. Our guards should take some notes.

Keep in mind he’s taken almost all 3’s…
the man he is covering is 11-18 and blowing past him every time Lin
Ross is lucky to be in the NBA

Lol at Lin going mj on us

What D by Demar on Lin
Noticed that too, staying in front of him and making him pass it out. Unbelievable to me that Ross couldn’t do it when he has quicker feet and was once loved for his defense against elite guards

Lin what were you thinking lol
Lin or Kemba for the last shot?

  • Lin looks really good as “Lin SOLO”! 🙂

  • JoeTeam

    so good

  • blubell

    LOL. Thanks for sharing!

  • That’s a Lin-teresting theory =)

If it’s true, we’ll see them heavily recruiting JLin to give him the PG reign like in MDA system.
I’m not sure how high Brett Brown on Lin so it’ll be good to see how things develop.

It’s also possible that Colangelo/MDA connection helped to make it happen to put some order in the 76ers chaos and losing culture. Having fast-entertaining offense can reignite the 76ers fanbase even if they’re still losing.

  • It’s great to appreciate what opposing fans reacted.
They will only react strongly against players who earn their respect to put the hurt on them LOL

  • yw, sharing is caring!

  • Whitman Lam

Haters still believe Lawson is a better fit next to Harden. That’s what haters do, twist reality.

  • let’s hope they come to their sense soon

  • blubell

    Let me share/care too 🙂
One of the Raptor’s announcers was a guest on NBA radio this morning and again said “it’s Linsanity every time he plays us.” He sounded hurt lol.

  • DaBoss

    Lol -Dippity Doo!

  • sws94

Seems that way now, doesn’t it. But the Beard has more NBA marketing power than Linsanity. However, Linsanity has more global marketing power. Now the team is a mess with no Lin, Asik, Parsons, Casspi, Patterson, Smith and many others that worked quite nicely when they played there. DMO and Terrance Jones would benefit so much if Lin was still on the Rockets team.

  • JoeTeam

And Cliff said over and over how much stamina Lin has so that’s a done deal. Cliff the debunker – he’s one of 30 head coaches and he says:

    – Lin is strong to hold Demar off his hip while he’s scanning (handles, strength, bball IQ, presence of mind, etc.)

    – Lin goes left

    – Lin is great on D

    – Lin works on his shot in a good way (too many negative-minded shot experts not named Brent, etc.?)

    – Lin gets into the paint (moves off ball, on ball)

If you listen to that little bit by Cliff, and feel his emotion while he’s saying it, you will know that Cliff is in for Lin, and that he’s doing as much as good fans do to debunk all the false narratives. People like PFV, psalm, Brent, Joyce W, wu kong, etc and more have been consistent in the social sphere to debunk false narratives. Now you all can quote Cliff.

And finally, that hug between JLin and KW. When have we seeing that kind of love between 2 Guards on Lin’s team? Bev’s was false to get the overthrow. He was all over JLin until the start change in year 2. That year before, I saw Bev hopping on Lin’s back and following JLin here and there, at the GSW game. They walked right in front of me, JLin could have smelled my coffee breath. So, who? Yep, you guessed it, that kind of friendliness was JLin and Curry. Curry was struggling at the start when JLin was struggling at the DLeague.

So yeah, we can get jealous of KW shots and glory, but let’s not bash JLin’s running partner. It would be like going to a friends dinner and bashing their spouse with all the guests.

Go JLin’s team, the Charlotte Hornets!

  • There are 2 ways to think about it.
    1. Lin is anchoring the 2nd unit and be nice decoy/threat to feature Kemba/Batum at end of games.
    2. Lin can be the triple-threat playmaker with Batum/Kemba

I believe FO sees #1 at the moment (also Lin as 1 yr-rental plan) as Cho insisted on Lin to lead the 2nd unit.
If they will switch to 2, it only makes sense to start Lin (not PJ) because the triple playmakers need to start & finish game strongly to develop chemistry.

Let’s hope it can be #3.
Unfortunately, starter position still matters because it means more time to practice with starters to develop more chemistry.

  • haha.. Linsanity was on his mind all night long!
    thx

  • sws94

Who is Number 5 guarding? It’s certainly not Joe.

  • JoeTeam

I have said it against the rabble for sure.

  • JoeTeam

    LMAO

  • sws94

Still? That’s some serious twisting reality.

  • blubell

I believe they play each other 2 more times this season so more Linsanity to come! 🙂

  • JoeTeam

I loved the Lin knocks that are really in tone sort of sardonic in a self-deprecatory way.

No way this can be serious:
    yess my boy lin starting
Yeah, he’s the one with the chicken on his head getting ready to lay an egg.

  • Linzen

    Oh no!
The highlight is gone… deleted by NBA… :((((
    Can’t even watch highlight…………………..

  • JoeTeam

Brent, where is Lin’s shot now – people are saying he’s changed his shot I’m interested in what you are seeing.

  • sws94

Because I’m considering the team. And it’s one game. Clifford isn’t going to base anything on one monster game. I hope he is the 6th man as opposed to another bench player being it. And I think he will be. But I think Lin will be counted on to run the bench because, if you watch this team, it relies on the bench to dig them out of a lot of holes. I have no argument with anyone that says Clifford should look at that and if his solution is to start Lin, then great. I just don’t think that’ll be his solution.

  • actually, it was from a Raptors fan who’s also a Lin fan since he uses JLin’s Hornets profile picture =)
Pretty soon with 1-2 more Linsanity games, they’ll want Lin to join them

  • JoeTeam

Yep, then I got the tone right … I love that kind of admiration, that your opponent is so good you can’t help but knock something about him like his chicken head. I say chickenhawk head!

  • sws94

What kind of coach is Dwane Casey? He doesn’t seem too good. His team lacks ball movement. It seems to not have good team defensive schemes. There’s a lot of ISO and depending on DeRozan and I guess Lowry. All he does is looked perturbed during most of the game. His TO call was a gift to us when an exhausted Kemba and Lin botched a last possession and DeRozan hoisted up a long 3 that somehow went in and it didn’t count. I think Toronto is a better team with a better coach.

  • KHuang

If Kemba Walker keeps playing his customary loser isoball, then he DESERVES to be bashed whether Lin’s with him or not.

  • JoeTeam

Jun Liu’s? I didn’t even see it, I love the extended ones.

  • sws94

MKG will play and that puts in the great defensive player on the opponents best player. PJ is just a placeholder there and I think he doesn’t get resigned. So Clifford thinks, save Batum.

My feeling as of now is, it remains Kemba/Batum starting to Kemba/Lin (Batum rests) to Lin leading bench (no Batum/Kemba) to then Batum joining bench and closing halves and games with Lin/Kemba/Batum trio. Is that enough for Lin? Only he can decide. Also MKG is going to affect that when he’s back and playing. If that means Lin doesn’t close games that may be a big factor. I find this acceptable only because I think Lin will close most quarters and games and get to play with Kemba and Batum at critical times in the game. But it is all up to Lin and what he wants.

  • wu kong

JLin Interview: Did you catch when he said after game, in his towel, that he knows KW and Al needed him because they game planned them many times. I thought that was a really cool way to understand how they all know each other v well, so when JLin goes into something, he knows way more than the avg fan so anyway, it’s not just the simple KW wants to hog thing but more, there are layers that they understand about each other and what we are seeing is in-game fails and glory. What we are seeing is an expression of their professionalism, art, and human foibles.

For HOU and LAL, we were seeing organizational fails piled on top of known Kobe propensity, and for Harden, nobody knew because until he showed up in HOU with Max and team given to him, he could have been Luke or Darth. You know …

  • Acbc

Haha, I just posted a comment yesterday morning to Brent about how good Lin’s form was and that I was super excited about the rest of the season….then Hairsanity happened last night. His right elbow is near perfect and his core and arm is turned to allow for near perfect alignment. I’m stoked at his form.

  • JoeTeam

Cool, too many posts so I missed that thanks! Let’s hear more I am not a shot expert!

  • cdblue10

These bloggers are just trying to instill in people’s mind that Jeremy is just good as a bench role player. What if he will write about,WHAT IF JEREMY WOULD START TOGETHER W/ BATUM AND WALKER,CAN WE FINALLY HAVE A BIG 3 IN CHARLOTTE???… but they’re just satisfied that Lin is good enough to come off the bench without the exploring the other side of possibility.

  • Acbc

Watch him in practice again and see if you can spot his right elbow pointing straight down at his right knee. He’s turned now close to 45 degree to make that alignment happen in a triple threat. More reps to come to make it take but it’s near perfect now. Now he can bring the release point down as needed for quicker release. Like a Stef quick jab shot.

  • DaBoss

If you’re considering the team, then Jeremy starting and not coming in off the bench will help the team. You just said it yourself – the starters dig themselves into a lot of holes.

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

I’m not jealous of Kemba’s shots (or glory). He can shoot as many as he wants so long as Lin gets the assists 🙂 I bashed him after the Magic loss but I actually think he’s behaving according to human nature: protect your own interests. I would bash the FO more for enabling him to do that rather than insist that he play team-ball with Lin.

As far as Cliff is concerned. I became convinced that he must have reneged on his commitments to Lin. Some like the theory that Cliff is 100% pro-Lin but is restricted by FO politics. Here’s my problem with that theory:
    1) Cliff should not have made any commitments / promises to Lin regarding role / minutes if he knew he did not have the full authority to fulfill them
    2) If from the beginning Cliff wanted to “slowly and gradually” show FO how great Lin is, then his treatment of Lin did not make sense. He definitely appeared to bench Lin for mistakes and there were quite a few games where Lin’s minutes were in the teens. I could see how FO asked Cliff not to start Lin, but he could have always given Lin at least 25 minutes.

  • sws94

I think it is an option. I enjoy when he starts. I enjoy when he plays long minutes and makes an impact. On this team, Clifford needs to consider why the starters dig holes. But we may want to consider that if he starts, will that continue and there’s something about how the starting unit runs that’s producing this.

  • Hope

Like I said before, the excuses will be lin is hired to be bench player, no promise, etc non sense bs. Anyway, or doesn’t matter lin will join MDA.

  • Acbc

Casey isn’t that great a coach IMO. I follow the raptors a lot more because I like both DeRozen and Lowrey but Casey drives me crazy with his rotations and his use of Valentunis. He constantly takes the young centre out in the 4th for defensive reasons. He’s just not that bad, he needs a coach that will give him some trust and confidence to build him up.

Funny thing is that Clifford gave up on Biyombo and he sat for 2 seasons like Psycho T. In Toronto with the injury to Valentunis, he’s been a beast. Last night he had 18 rebounds (?) and quite a few blocks. He’s only 6’9″ and Clifford just think length is more important. Hornets could use Biyomba for some much needed toughness… But then Psych T is the same size and just as tough.

  • DaBoss

It’s clear the starters are not up to snuff as configured. They need Jeremy.

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

I agree with the Batum/Lin situation…Lin should only re-sign if Batum leaves since the return of MKG will make it even harder for Lin to get minutes.

I’m hoping Lin doesn’t get too comfortable in Charlotte and I worry that if things goes well, he may want to stay since I hear he loves this group of teammates.

If he stays and Batum/MKG are still there, Lin will be relegated to simply playing Kemba’s back-up minutes.

The only way it’s possible for Lin to see more time is if they move Lamb but they’ve just given him a big contract, so they have to play him sixth man minute starting next year.

  • adele

    Very true.

    http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2015/12/18/10575088/jeremy-lin-highlights-stats-hornets-helping

Good article about Lin this season. Providing stats showing Lin being an overall more rounded player and having big impact on the team’s success.

  • Whitman Lam

Have you seen Biyombo’s ridiculous wing span and leaping ability ? He’s a natural shot blocker, even if he’s not that tall. He’s also surprisingly good at trapping on pick n’ roll ON THE PERIMETER, something that no Charlotte big man has been able to do this season.

  • NONONO

” Lin has received as many combined assists from Spencer Hawes and Frank Kaminsky as he has from Walker and Batum. ” –

    http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2015/12/18/10575088/jeremy-lin-highlights-stats-hornets-helping#comments.

  • Whitman Lam

It looks much better, but he needs more minutes to get into a rhythm. He starts off hot, then after sitting down during halftime and the 3rd quarter, that shooting stroke disappears.

  • NONONO

we were reading the same article.

  • Whitman Lam

Even his misses look better now. It’s lined up with the rim, but off to either front or the back rim. Which is easier to correct than if it’s off to the side.

  • Acbc

Yes I have and I’m very impress with him. Which begs to question why they gave up on him, or more precisely why Clifford decided to bench him for 2 seasons without giving him a chance. He finishes so strong under the basket, something so desperately needed for Lin AND the hornets.

  • Whitman Lam

Casey is supposed to be a disciple of the Spurs Greg Popovich, but I don’t see it in his plays. Way too much ISO from Lowry or DeRozan and their off ball movement is poor.

  • adele

Pray and hope. My greatest wish

  • Acbc

There’s over 500,000 Asians in metro Toronto, a lot of them live Lin. But they are also strong homers and they love the Raptors.

  • LinMad

what does that mean? Lin isn’t getting enough assists from Walker/Batum?

  • blubell

Jun Liu’s highlights are gone 🙁
    Here is Jay’s

  • sws94

Lin made a great case for that in last night’s game by playing a spectacular game on both ends of the floor. The starters never trailed. He also proved he and Kemba can be effective together.

  • David Kim

I think DeRozen and Lin will be very good backcourt duo.
    What you guys think?

Lin and DeRozen to sixers lol

  • LinMad

35 pts, 47 minutes of play, $2M. Nuff said. Obviously Lin is capable of being a starter. But right now, Hornets has one of the best bench units in the NBA scoring 40+ pts a night. It’s a really hard decision to make whether to start Lin or keep him on the bench. And from what I see, if the starters keep trailing in the first qtr, I think Lin should start and play with the bench too. So he’ll get 35-40 minutes a night.

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

You were also a big fan of GooddayLA, weren’t you? We had to endure his posts for quite a while…until he was banned permanently. So much for yho.

  • NONONO

All-Star votes for Lin might get doubled this year because

    1. He is helping Hornets become one of top teams in NBA and he can have All Stats stats game as long as he is given the chance like last night.
    2. He just proved he can beat Kyle Lowry (current #1 ranking in EC) on the both ends of the court.
    3. Lin crazy hair was talked about by the media more than the impact of combined John Wall, Dwayne Wade and Derrick Rose

  • NONONO

    yes.

  • Spot

Kaminsky is perfect for D’Antoni too. They could trade for Jeremy now.

    If they sacrifice Noel…

  • NONONO

Lin does not have to have a “duo”. He needs a backup.

  • Damn… What a game, Lin was on top form last night, he was crazy good. The Raptors couldn’t stop him. He was everywhere from defense to offense. That was the one of the fun game I’ve watched from Lin in a long, long time. Hairsanity!

  • kjch

    Woahhh…shot fired… * grab popcorn again

  • David Kim

    How about this rotation?
1st 6mins Kemba and Lin play together
Then Lin gets subs by Lamb
After 1st qt Kemba gets subs by Lin
Then last 6mins of 2nd QT lamb gets sub by Kemba (Lin and Kemba play together)

Then 2nd half as same as 1st half.

    Lin and Kemba play 36mins
    Lamb plays 24mins.

If 36mins too much, let Robert or Daniel play 2mins each half. So Lin and Kemba play 34mins.

  • NONONO

I heard Raptors fans screamed, “Lin is killing Lowry on the both ends” .

  • NONONO

they will vote Lin for all-star.

  • occupatio

i like lowry as a player, but this lowry lowlights vid from last night’s game is so entertaining. enjoy.

    soundtrack game is spot on

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

That just confirms what we all know: Batum and Kemba do not pass to Lin. It’s like they can’t even see him. The starting PG and point forward, who are supposed to rack up assists, pass less to Lin than two big men.

  • blubell

Please stop attacking other posters. If you disagree, do so respectfully. You have been warned many times. This will be your last.

  • CJSHYY

They only did but rebroadcast another time @2300 and then this morning
@0900. Sportnews has talked about Linsanity 2. Articles were out even
during the games and had so many articles about this game both in Taiwan
& China, much much more than in English.

  • CJSHYY

So Al is not lock for close game?

  • DX

Finish, so Lin is not starter still.

  • blubell
  • NONONO

AL does not fit for fast pace games.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

When is Cliff “good” in adjusting his roster?

  • GoJLin!

Yes, I am so impress with him last night, because he blocked CHA 7 times (2 on KW, 2 on Lin, 1 on MW, Zeller, & Daniels), also got 1 ST & 18 Rebounds. This is the first time I pay attention on Biyombo. One of the tough player for sure!

  • DX

Would rather have a better PnR parter, like TC.

  • CJSHYY

Or maybe he will be traded.

  • CJSHYY
  • sws94

Yep, no surprise. He was headed in that direction. Good it’s official now.

  • sws94

Cliff hasn’t been moving in that direction. Lin spot starts due to injury. And does well.

  • sws94

    Or Ed Davis.

  • Briiick

Batum or Lin or neither, that is the question for Hornets’ next season, not realizing that Batum has been helping the first unit dig holes and Lin helped them win.

  • blubell

He did say JLin was locked to finish games before but Jeremy didn’t finish games for couple of games after that so I don’t know…

  • sws94

Something very interesting is developing now. Lin, as roll man. So instead of Lin getting assists in PnR’s where he takes the option to pass to a solid finishing big man, Lin is cutting to the basket in give and gos. In that way, he’s like a roll man. This makes perfect sense. They aren’t too great at finishing at the rim, none of the big men except maybe Tyler who doesn’t play much, nor do they set good screens, so they can just hold it, Lin can zoom around them, cut, they are good passers and Lin finishes easy. Lin gets more points, less assists.

But Lin still can get assists. Here he is figuring out variations to the draw defenders and dish to the big man option. Yes, if he gives it to them in tight, they tend to fumble it and blow the finish. But if he does he under the basket probe and then finds the wide open guy, he can then dunk it because he had time to see Lin’s brilliant pass. So, here’s Lin’s assist.

  • sws94

I’m not sure if he said that or if that was someone’s interpretation.

  • sws94

Apparently, this is from a radio interview Diego is listening to.
    more of his tweets:

in radio interview, cliff said he follows spurs model of rotations starting with defensive group w/ offensive balance finishing w/ offensive group w/ defensive balance. Also said he likes that his finishing group, including jlin, can guard multiple positions

  • JLin Fan from Australia

With Cliff, I just can’t really figure him out as quickly as KM or BS. Seem like what he says and acts about JLin aren’t what it seems at times. Yea, he gave praises to JLin and wouldn’t throw players under the bus but…. Who knows what! I will take each game as it comes. At least I do know he needs JLin to save him, starters, Hornets often and won’t pull DNP-CD on JLin.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Didn’t know that. One more thing I learn about MDA.

  • sws94

Don’t know. But if Diego heard this on the radio, good news. I hope the interview is online somewhere. It sounds interesting.

  • blubell

He seems to really appreciate Jeremy but he has to consider other players as well along with politics. He’s still figuring it out how to go about it. Maybe he saw an opportunity with Batum being out and used JLin to the fullest to prove something to the FO. Who knows what’s going on behind the scene.

  • sws94

Yep, he considers all players. And he said finish most games, not all. And it seems Lin is finishing most.

  • Mr Chuckles

  • occupatio

calling that a roll man is confusing, or confused

  • Briiick

Lowry has been pretty much contained by Lin every time they meet since Lin was a Rox.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

I understand all these but sometimes it’s hard to see JLin not to be used to his full potential in the most efficient way. I rewatched the highlights several times and even one time I watched each possession closely. Game went too quickly for me to notice the details esp that I’m familiar with opp players. In Jun’s highlights, I noticed JLin has guided pg, sg, sf….

I really don’t have any ill-wish to any players but if JLin “only” can be a starter because of other’s illness & injury, I continue to wait for the “perfect” storm. Now that I have a taste of Linsanity 2, I’m looking forward to another one soon. I’m that hunger. Otherwise, I will be back to watch the game only when I have time and only when JLin is on the court.

  • sws94

I know, it’s a give and go. But in function it’s Lin cutting to the basket. He’s just beating his men and help defender.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

WOW! I didn’t know that he played bb and was a pg as well. No wonder!!!!

  • JLin Fan from Australia

    Thanks!

  • A guest

    A handsome man.

  • Dan Ang

Wow, someone needs to do a video mashup of D’Antoni/Lin. Their game is very similar.

  • grover chang

Here is something ironic but true. When Kobe entered the league he chose number 8 for the first few years of his career. Why? Because D’Antoni was kobe’s favorite player growing up in Italy. Mind blowing.

  • Spot

    Yep 😀

  • grover chang

What Lin hoped to get out of hornets starting to happen. People calling it a revival.

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

That’s exactly how Cliff should do it. Kemba averages 35 min anyway. To reduce Lin’s minutes, there’s no need to play Roberts. Just sub Lin in or out a few minutes later or earlier using Lamb (or Hairston).

  • Spot

Could be that they’re trying to pump his value to trade him.

They’re tied to Kemba, they want to keep Batum next year and MKG will be SF, he extended too last season I suppose.

Knowing Jeremy could be a goner next year probably they’re trying to trade him for a player they need. Don’t forget Lamb extended too.

If Sixers want to trade Noel … Not only for Jeremy. Kaminsky is perfect for D’Antoni.

  • blubell

Last night he proved to his teammates, esp. Kemba, that his brand of basketball (teamball) works. I think it was a big step in the right direction. Let’s hope they can do this with Batum as well.

  • 1mtoldman

just to repost a couple things together that may have gotten buried in the “buzz” from last nite’s “hairsanity” or “linsanity 2” or “linsanity south” or “linsanity 2.0” or linsanity charlotte:

last time lin took 22 shots in a game was his first season in houston in feb. against okc; he put 29 that nite.

post linsanity/new york been only about 4 games in now the third year beyond he’s taken 20 or more shots.

lins current fg% is now up over last season in l.a. currently 429 or there about (from memory) but much higher in the month of dec. 468 or there abouts (from memory).

most signficant i thought was offensive/defensive +/- is now equal to (on the season thus far) what it was in new york/linsanity. (actually the first time he’s had a postive +/- for a season since then.)

of course all this came because of last nite game. when not kobe or durant or westbrook or harden or even the great lebron scored the most points in the leauge on that force awakening nite but no it was yes: jeremy lin.

whats next is (as always) unknown.

but those are some of the details of the moment to revel in.

  • 1mtoldman

it was an atypical game for lowry and not entirely explicable.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

This is similar to last night rotation except less minutes for both JLin and Kemba. Should be a workable rotation. My thought is always: If Cliff or any coach who wants to start JLin, there is always a way to make the rotation works.

  • JLin Fan from Australia
  • TTNN

more like he cuts better, and moves better without ball.

  • TTNN

Kobe was using 8 initially because D’Antoni was his favorite player then

  • JLin Fan from Australia

WOW interesting but guess later on he has changed to “heroic” alone.

  • sws94

So glad to see that. I do think that the give and go play will be used a lot because the big men aren’t strong PnR players. Big Al is probably best at it when he decides to do it rather than stay planted in the post.

  • TTNN

It is also the second highest score any Hornets scored this season. After a 39 game from Kemba, whom played 47 min in that game too.

47 min also tie the first highest played game this season for Hornets.

  • KL

Hey everyone I will be at the Hornets v Wizards game tomorrow night. Missed the Raptors game cause I was on the plane to the US! Anyway will write a game report as soon as possible after the game tomorrow. Going to sleep now.

  • sws94

You never know with GMs but I doubt it. Lin is a big part of the team and not easy to replace for his salary. There’s no good reason to trade Lin.

  • sws94

Fine, but missing Batum. when does Batum come in and when does Lin/Batum/Kemba play together.

If starters keep digging holes, Cliff needs to reassess his PJ for MKG plug-in.

34 minutes may be fine for Lin most nights. Can do more. 40 plus? No desirable. Both he and Kemba were gassed by end of regulation but got a second wind in OT. Both exhausted after the game.

  • sws94

Lin and shooting. Lin suggested in both his postgame on the court interview with Dell Curry and then with the reporters in the locker room, that he won’t always be shooting that much. So, the 10 or so shots a game may be more the norm than 22. I hope he can find a happy medium of 12-15 as CJSHYY suggested.

  • 1mtoldman

see if you can tell if wall’s been out making it rain at the strip clubs the nite b4 or not.

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

If only Cliff or MJ had some imagination.

  • blubell
  • blubell

    From ESPN
    http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/4299/jeremy-lin

Lin scored a season-high 35 points (13-22 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 7-9 FG) with five rebounds, four assists, and two blocks through 47 minutes in a 109-99 victory over the Raptors on Thursday.

Spin: Lin received a fortuitous start Thursday, etched into the starting lineup after Nicolas Batum sat out with an illness. With thin depth at the 1 and 2, both Lin and Kemba Walker saw an abnormally high amount of court time, notching 47 and 44 minutes, respectively. Lin has to be riding high after his performance Thursday, representing his first 30-point game since Nov. 2013. With Charlotte receiving a rest day Friday, Lin should be available at full strength before Saturday’s game against the Wizards.

  • sws94
  • DaBoss

Wouldn’t necessarily call them Lin fans. They don’t see Jeremy in the same light as we do. They are pushing a different agenda and seem to think they know what’s best for Jeremy, which is clearly not the case.

  • sws94

Definitely said that the closing the game group is Kemba, Batum, Lin, Marvin and a center. In terms of starters, sounds like PJ is staying right where he is.

Agree with him or not, he really explains his position on his decisions well.

  • Dan Ang

    Thanks in advance.

  • heart

In Cliff’s most recent radio interview, Cliff said he still wants PJ to defend opponent primary scorer to alleviate defensive load for NB, so NB can focus on the offensive end. Sounds similar to Rox model? Why cater to NB to save energy for defense when everyone else has to defend? Doesn’t Cliff see what happened to Harden? Saying that he’s using Spurs model but applying Rox strategy? Lin needs to be starter. If not on Hornets, it has to be somewhere else. Lin is too talented to stay suppressed.

  • CJSHYY

I don’t think PJ did good in D more better in O recently. Just check how many pts DeRozan got last night? Our first unit still not good enough that’s why 2nd unit always had to save them later.

  • CJSHYY

    This is from today?

  • I remember Clifford mentioned this strategy of PJ helping to defend in first half but Batum would still need to defend in the 4th quarter to close out games.

So far, I don’t think Hornets will change their long-term plans to include Lin beyond 1 yr.
Their 1st priority is still to have Kemba/Batum/MKG as PG/SG/SF for next year.
This is because they have invested big salary for these players but haven’t done so for JLin.

They know Lin will power the bench this year and he most likely will leave with better salary offer next year.
BUT JLin might be in Hornets’ long-term plan IF:
    1. JLin provides 3-4 Linsanity 30+ games plus clutch playoff performance, things might change.
    2. Or if Batum leaves for another team.

  • NONONO

I think Cliff wants to save Batum’s energy and let him play with 2nd unit too. It was the same roles (SF in starting unit and PG in 2nd unit) as Lin had yesterday. The only difference Lin toke defense role more than anyone else. It is not good for Lin because he has less chance to handle the ball. So he becomes less efficient in the 2rd unit too.

  • sws94

    Yes.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Next game, Lin will be double teamed.
But this game Lin has just embarrassed Lowry; a mighty good PG.

  • sws94

They have to pay him more. $2 million is just this year and won’t cut it. But, Lin is valuable. Cliff is big on chemistry. It can go many ways now, still too early to tell.

  • sws94

For some reason, Lin usually does well with Lowry. But to be honest, Lin didn’t guard Lowry. Kemba did. Lin only guarded him when Kemba wasn’t on the floor which wasn’t much. Lin guarded Ross mostly.

  • Acbc

He could have had one in LA when he scored 29 but he stopped trying to score early in the forth and started to feed his teammates.

    Ya! I like that… Haha!

  • spiderman

So use a bad defender to save energy for an average offensive player….
Doesn’t sound like a good strategy to me.

  • that’s for sure. Lin’s worth at least $5M-7M in this current salary cap (without marketing) but it should be more in the new salary cap next year.

We know from the $ of investment how important the role designated by the FO will be.
I believe JLin Team will do their best at the end of the season.
For now, winning will solve a lot of potential problems

  • NONONO

    No papa johns 50% off?

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

If the Hornets want to generate a lot of buzz they need to promote JLIn.

  • sws94

Is there a way to pay him $6 million in salary but a lot more in extras like endorsements where he doesn’t really have to do much? I think if there is, MJ may be the kind of guy to find it. At the end of the season, Lin may be an $8 to $10 million player.

  • sws94

I thought that said that about Ross, not Lowry. Lin guarded Lowry, but not nearly as much as Kemba did.

  • LinMad

    i think so too

  • LinMad

I really hope Lin gets to guard Harden on Monday. That would be awesome to see him shut down Harden. The biggest insult is getting shut down by Lin who is now only being paid $2M.

Hornets need this win for Lin!

  • sws94

I don’t know. Harden gets the ball and raises his arms to hit Lin’s and gets the call. Cliff will probably put a few guys on him, PJ, others, try to keep his guys out of foul trouble.

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

Yeah I kinda remember some games in the high 20s. But so far this season Lin got only 15 min some games. It was starting to look bleak.

  • LinMad

/facepalm after reading this on ATH…

Trade Lin for a rim protector
We just gave an extension to Lamb. Lamb played well the night before, and I’m unsure why he wasn’t rewarded with more PT vs. Raptors.

You can only capture what Lin did last night when he starts. When Lin comes off the bench, he’s not (as Lin puts it) “in rhythm”. He needs to start—just not going to happen on this Charlotte team.

    ——
This is what I call a crazy Hornets fan. The reason Lamb didn’t get to play yesterday was he made a lot of silly mistakes like trying to play PG. He also was getting killed on defense and ISO’d a lot of his shots.

They are also saying that Lin is not in rhythm when hes on the bench. Are you serious? Just cause he can’t score 30 pts every game coming off the bench he is out of rhythm? I thought Hornets fans were smarter than this. Lin has been playing well off the bench. So has Lamb. The bench is probably the best in the NBA right now scoring over 40 pts per game.

Lastly, I just want to say that wanting to trade someone who just proved himself yesterday that he can be a starter but is also okay with playing off the bench is pretty dumb. Especially when he’s only paid $2M. You won’t find a deal like that anywhere and there are many teams who would love to pick up Lin. You would have to be the dumbest front office to even think about trading Lin this December. If you put Kemba or Batum in the same shoes as Lin (a 27 minute bench player), do you think the bench unit will be the best bench unit in the NBA? I’ve seen Batum and Lamb try to lead the bench unit by themselves before when Lin was sitting, it was a disaster. One more thing, why would you trade Lin for a rim protector when you have so many bigs on the team that have similar skills? Frank, Hawes, Zeller, etc. Why not trade Hawes for a rim protector? This dude is obviously a Lin hater.

  • blubell

Haha. Jeremy finally saw the Lin SOLO pic and reacts on IG (refresh for pic)

  • Brent Yen

    Nonsense…

  • tom

    PJ on him probably
It wouldnt be an insult anyways

  • Guest

Sounds like a cheapo FO fantasy to pay Lin so much less than his true value. Lin should at least get $12.5mil/season with the new salary cap.

  • sws94

I see that it is. I don’t have NBA TV on my cable list provider and League Pass blacks out games with coverage. It’s annoying, they shouldn’t do that. I’ll have to watch on a free feed.

  • LinMad

He won’t be what we saw yesterday but he will still be leading the best bench unit in the NBA. If they don’t want that, then they are out of the playoffs and there are many of teams that would love to pick him up for $2M. There are many teams in need of a backup PG and even a few teams looking for starting PG. The reason the Bobcats sucked so badly last season was because their bench unit was very weak.

From what I saw yesterday compared to the 3 or so games before, starters have been digging a hole in the first quarter and bench unit would have to play catch up. However, the one game where Lin starts, we were leading in the first quarter. Something is definitely wrong when you want to trade Lin knowing all this. Sure, I wouldn’t complain if Lin is traded out of Hornets because he doesn’t get as many touches that he truly deserves, but don’t say it like Charlotte has to trade Lin because he’s a bad bench player and is only good when he’s starting. If he’s bad, then why is the Bench Force 1 even a thing? Why is bench scoring 40+ pts a game where Lamb/Lin contributes more than half of that a night?

  • JoeTeam

I will watch for what you say. I worried last night about his FTs due to fatigue, but he hit all his OT ones. Missed 2 in the row though, I think in 4th.

  • 1mtoldman

The Sixers are shooting 3-for-17 from behind the arc against the Knicks tonight. They trail by 27 with four minutes to go in the third. If Mike D’Antoni’s watching this game, he may be having second thoughts.–ian begley espn

  • JoeTeam

Well. by what he said last night, unless he’s not right in the head, he does admire lin a lot. Whether he can use Lin in-game is another thing so I don’t know I can only comment on what I observe.

  • LinMad

same, i have to watch on a free feed too. I think they post the entire game on LP after the game though so you can watch it over in higher quality.

  • JoeTeam

I really don’t care about his shooting form as long as it goes in. I mean Steph showed me the way … he is so smooth from any starting position, it seems like he’s been playing in his mastery since he and his dad shot weekends. I wanna see JLin hit his stable platform shots, and also free up to do some magic shots because we need more than one guy in the league who can give us amazement. Lin can do it, because we were amazed by him at a time when he was just starting to get the pro experience.

  • JoeTeam

ps I will watch for that form now thanks!

  • JoeTeam

Just to be sure, I replied to your thread but wasn’t really saying anything about your postings. That is, I don’t think you bash KW, etc. I was just speaking in general about how the rivers her flow some days. Happy weekend!

  • sws94

    So dumb.

  • Chopz

Haters gonna hate, so we’ll keep having lin light it up, and drive the haters more insane, love it. Like last night, tell them i got 35 problems but a hater ain’t one.

  • Brent Yen

Does using tweeter handle count? I thought it has to be a full name

  • Chopz

Yes promote him as the most Linteresting man in the world. He doesn’t start much, but when he does, he prefers to score 35 points. When he burps, people say excuse me, the most Linteresting man in the world

  • Chopz

    Bam! Like ur numbers

  • occupatio

that goof pooster doesnt seem to realize that lamb gets so many shots because lin is feeding him. but u leave lamb on his own or with kemba, and its something else, much less efficient, basically rookie-level probing and chucking.

its not hard to put up numbers if you are getting many plays run for you, like multiple off-ball screens and catch the ball off a curl.

if PJ were put in lamb’s role, his stats would look decent now, not as good, but certainly better than PJ’s current role.

  • LinMad

It is going to be hilarious if Batum goes to a different team after being catered like this all season by the Hornets FO/Coaches. It will be so funny cause they shouldn’t have fed his ego like that. It has become so bad that Batum is taking Kobe-like shots (3 point shots that are close to half court). Now, if he gets any less than 30 minutes per game, he might throw a fit against the team. This is why I believe Cliff is afraid of benching Batum when he had 7-9 turnovers in 2 games this season. Or even scared of telling Batum that he isn’t a PG. Hornets FO needs to really think about who the real franchise players are for this team. I can’t believe some Hornets fans are actually thinking we need to persuade Batum to stay by giving him a $18-20M/year contract like he really deserves that much money. Give Lin 35+ minutes a game and 20 FGA and you’ll see who holds more value for less price.

Meanwhile, they side track Lin like Mavs did when they tried to sign Deandre Jordan. If Hornets lose Lin, I think it would have a bigger effect on the team than if they loss Batum. Since no one else can lead the bench and Kemba would probably be more happy if he got to ISO more without Batum. Kemba is capable of facilitating like we saw yesterday. Sure it’s nice to have 2 facilitators but Batum is a lazy on his passes compared to Kemba. The only thing good about Batum facilitating is his height advantage. It does make up for Kemba’s lack of height.

Lin is being paid $2M and is performing way over his contract. Lin and Batum are both players that Hornets have no idea whether they will be re-signing with them next season. So it’s better to make both players happy by giving them minutes and touches they deserve this season. Also don’t be giving either of them some ridiculous contract either. I think $10M/year tops for either players. We’ve seen that Lin can handle being marginalized by the coach pretty well. Do you think Batum can handle getting 13 minutes a game and 6 FGA only? I bet you if he gets 1-2 games like that, he will call his agent for a trade immediately. That’s the difference between Lin and Batum. Lin has more experience being in a limited role and can perform well with what he’s given.

I think Hornets need to give Lin a bigger role now and lessen Batum’s role and see if Batum will accept it. Do the Hornets really need a diva on this team?

  • LinMad

Yes, which is why Lamb can score big with limited minutes when he’s shooting well. Lin, half the time is committing to defense and the other half is offense/play making. Lin has a lot more roles than Lamb does cause Lin is the PG. And he’s a really good PG cause he is also playing defense really hard.

  • LinMad

    for voting? I think so

  • occupatio

lin’s ultimate goal is to win a championship on a team, and that is not going to happen if the hornets roster doesnt get better. whether that includes batum or not, is besides the point. and ultimately, this team will never go far with kemba as the starting PG.

  • LinMad

I think Kemba/Lin duo can work even if Kemba is starting PG and Lin is starting SG. However, Lin would need to alternate roles with Kemba. So far, if the team stays like it is now, I think they can be top 4 in the EC. If they make more adjustments and give Lin a bigger role, they can be a championship contender. We do need a rim protector who can PnR with Lin/Kemba though. I really don’t think we need so many bigs who shoot from 3 and are a bit lazy setting up screens for the guards. Seriously, I see CLiff yelling at the bigs all the time to set screens. They are kind of slow at it. A rim protector who can PnR would make this team so much better. Just one is all we need. Maybe they need to train Tyler more.

  • occupatio

kemba/lin duo will not work for a deep playoff run because they will have matchup problems with both PGs and SGs. kemba is expendable. he can only guard PGs, and he is a shooter in a small PG’s body.

  • LinMad

you’re right, also they would have to play a lot of minutes like last game cause BROB/Daniels can’t really back them up. Kemba cannot lead the first unit by himself. He needs Lin. But bench needs Lin too.

  • occupatio

lin/batum could be very good. however, batum’s effectiveness as a defender is average at best.

  • LinJa

lin will not win a championship with this roster. its still dysfunctional.

  • occupatio

lin’s goal is to contribute to a championship team. a team that has kemba as the starter with his minutes and outsized role will never be a championship team. sixers are not an obvious solution by any means, but charlotte — for the next 3 yrs until kemba’s contract ends — is not the answer for sure.

  • Hope

I remember jlin answer to one of the question Is Alan Iverson. Maybe Lin knows he is going to 76ers.

  • LinJa

idiots be idiots. haters cant help it if theyre idiots

  • Briiick

Hornets are doing exactly that. They threw carrots to Batum before and now they are showing him a club also.

  • Briiick

That is exactly the reason Lin could prefer 76ers to Hornets. Hornets’ top brains are incompetent in evaluating talents and Cliff is definitely not among the top coaches of the league.

  • sws94

There is absolutely no logical reason for Lin to join the 76ers he wants to play for a championship team. This team is the worse in the NBA. If Lin wants a championship, it’s somewhere else, Spurs, Warriors, Cavs, maybe Bulls, but nowhere near the 76ers.

Also, Cliff is a candidate for COY so he’s certainly seen as a quality coach.

  • LinJa

    76ers is even worse.

  • LinMad

Lin has improved his defense. i think Lin can handle Harden. Harden doesn’t even play defense so this is going to be a fun game to watch.

  • your son’s voltaire

then whey did he join the Hornets?

  • John Focker

Why would anyone spend so much time on one dumb comment is beyond me. The world will always see the unintelligent outnumber the intelligent simply because the latter takes effort, the pyramid stands firm. And you shouldn’t spend so much time trying in vain to rectify these guys unless handsomely paid.

  • JoeTeam

yes, while it was fun to watch Lin and team work with what they had and win last night, I have Lin on fantasy and his production really hurt when KW was in. I kept looking for team sharing and all I saw was something like Harden, except minus 3 things: the drawn foul to end it because KW can finish, the 3 to keep them honest, and the lack of a 3 sec left hospital pass. Besides that, it was pretty much why I saw CHA losing their lead.

  • JoeTeam

explain … is it because KW is too short? real q.

  • your son’s voltaire

you got it all wrong. this guy is a Lin fan who wants Lin to be traded to a better place. he is pretending to be a dumb Lin hater and purposely saying outrageous things (as Lin haters normally do). i’m usually guilty of doing this kind of things on other message boards 😉 for instance, i would prop Kobe up to ridiculous levels just to make Kobe fans look like morons

  • John Focker

LOL It’s not an insult when it’s factual. The mere fact that people like SAS survives in ESPN is indicative of they’re being managed by [insert own expletive].

  • Uh-Oh

Have a great time at the game!

  • John Focker

    Wishes for the New Year:

    1) More Linsanity games deep into playoffs
    2) Sam Hinkie fired (Morey tie)
    3) Daryl Morey fired (following footstep of puppet McHale)
    4) BS stays with Lakers after Kobe’s retirement

  • sws94

Harden gets phantom calls. Lin’s defense is fine, it’s the favorable calls Harden gets.

  • BobbyH

Why 76ers is a bad choice for Lin? Most of NBA players are competitive. Except few that has extraordinary talents, most of NBA players have the skills to compete at higher level. It is the environment that kills the desire and the edge, hence limiting the performance.

Yes, for the past 3 years, 76ers is tanking and the young players there don’t know what the future is ahead. But changes are coming, starting from GM/FO to coaches, the tanking philosophy is turned overnight. All they need is an unselfish leader that strives for winning and continuing improvement to lead the team. That leader is exactly molded for Lin. Lin has all the qualities to lead this miserable team to a playoff contender. One year might not be enough. But take notes, basketball game is about synergy. On court 5 vs 5 is not about the sum of each individual talents. It is about the factors that can leverage and maximize the performance of all 5 players together on the court real time. Lin can bring the most of the other 4 players.

And what is the best way to continue Lin’s incredible NBA journey by taking 76ers to another level. That I believe Lin can do.

  • Briiick

    2) and 4) will intensify the bidding for Lin next season.

  • Toronto’s win over Heat just now just put Toronto back over Charlotte but put Heat into a tie with Charlotte. Bulls and Pistons now going into double-overtime. Man, the East is SO competitive.

  • tom

    I never said that
He is more effective when hes given enough touches whether he starts or comes off the bench
Cliffords gotta call more plays for him
realistically, the Hornets are the best spot for him right now

  • John Focker

If anything, turning the Sixers (the lowest of the low) around would be such irrefutable proof of Lin’s abilities that even haters would silence themselves in shame.

  • Oh man, it’s TRIPLE OT now for Bulls and Pistons, geez Louise!

  • CJSHYY

OMG, Bulls vs Detroit for 3 OT now…

  • tom

    jesus and still no mirotic..
coach is clueless Taj Gibson aint gonna get cut it

  • cdblue10

Rose,Westbrook,Paul,Lowrey and other good PG in the NBA have their own team and probably got an established team and teammates but the bottom line is they don’t have any ring yet to say that they brought their team to the ultimate goal ,a championship, now Lin is already 28 and I want to answer the”WHAT IF HE LEAD HIS OWN TEAM?”million dollar question.

  • Briiick

If the coach and manager of 76ers are no longer in charge next season, I like to see Lin become the franchise player there.

  • CaliUSMC

Can’t believe how bad Rose is now..

  • CaliUSMC

Its about to go 4th overtime

  • CJSHYY

I know can’t believe this. I want Detroit to win this one but…4 OT.

  • sws94

    Lin is 27.

  • Lin Win

He’s useless now. All they have from him is marketing.

  • CaliUSMC

Lol Chicago plays NY tomorrow. Sucks for them.

  • John Focker

“The longest NBA game occurred on January 6, 1951 between the Olympians
and Royals. Indianapolis beat Rochester 75–73 after 6 overtimes.” – Wikipedia

Bulls and Pistons aiming for the record intentionally? LOL

  • CJSHYY

What? NYK sucks so don’t worry. LOL!

  • John Focker

Knicks had it easy with Sixers…

  • sws94

That’s incredibly low scoring for a 6OT game. That’s low scoring for a regulation game.

  • Lin Win

Lin’s highest chance of winning a ring is to play for the Spurs.
Manu might retire so Lin can fill his position up. When Parker retires then Lin can take the starting role.
Aldridge + Leonard + Lin isn’t that bad.

  • CaliUSMC

    Porzingis is God.. lol

  • sws94

If Manu retires, Lin is a great replacement for him.

  • CJSHYY

Detroit plays well in 4 OT w up to 7 pts now.

  • Lin Win

    Porzingis is overrated !

  • Lin Win

I rather Lin take 2million to play for the Spurs than take 10mill to play for the 76ers with zero chance for a championship.

  • CaliUSMC

    Guess not 🙁

  • CaliUSMC

    GG

  • Lin Win

That was a funny call. Foul when Jackson steps on Rose’s foot. Lin would have multiple fouls if that is ok.

  • CJSHYY

He doesn’t get to shoot that much now. Not really matter.

  • Lin Win

Jimmy Butler is so strong! No one can stop him driving into the paint like that.

  • CaliUSMC

Warriors about to get that 2nd L from the Bucks Haha

  • blubell

Different times different rules. Did they have 3 pointers back then?

  • CJSHYY

Butler played great but Detroit won the game.

    No 5OT

  • grover chang

Note to Clifford. Watch bucks vs warriors. Next time you play the warriors put a big guard on Curry.

  • JoeTeam

GA? He’s really long sort of like a super Livingston.

  • cdblue10

Not a bad choice ,Leonard Aldridge and Lin combinations can compete in any team in NBA

  • Lin Win

Well he missed one shot in OT i think? He carried the Bulls !

  • occupatio

lin is not big enough to guard everyone at the 2 spot, but he will be forced into that matchup because kemba can only guard the 1. also, there will be situations in which you want to have lin guard the 1, but if you do that then kemba cannot be on the floor with lin. for example, in the boston game, avery and IT were the backcourt. lin can guard IT well, but kemba cannot guard avery, so you cannot use lin to guard IT even if he does it better. same thing with magic’s payton/oladipo/fournier.

so lin is capable of guarding 1s, and many 2s, but his defensive flexibility cannot be utilized if he plays next to kemba because kemba is not flexible. lin would be stuck guarding 2s, which is hardly ideal. he can do that when the team is playing small ball, but you cant do that all the time.

  • your son’s voltaire

what if those guys have been mistreated the way Lin has? where would they be now?

  • cdblue10

I’m not sure if I can answer your question.

  • occupatio

youre right that you need physicality and size to deal with curry.

but its not feasible for lin to guard curry, because if he did that, then kemba would not be in the lineup — kemba is too small to guard thompson. and cliff cannot accept not playing kemba.

if cliff could accept lin and batum but no kemba, then you could do it. but cliff would never do that. he loves his kemba.

  • cdblue10

76’ers,Bucks,Toronto or Spurs or any other team than can give him a starting role is a good thing,I think every NBA player dreamt to lead their own team if given a chance. In NBA there’s no guarantee if you can win a championship even if you’ve been paired with Lebron or Curry.

  • Lin Win

Lin shouldn’t guard Curry. Lin always over helps and leaves him man to burn him.

  • sws94

Okafor is the franchise player there. He’s young and he was a third pick in the draft. Lin wouldn’t be the franchise player, he’d be the veteran PG.

  • blueCypher

Was browsing through ESPN NBA attendance ( http://espn.go.com/nba/attendance/_/sort/awayPct )

Hornets are currently 7th in the NBA in road attendance. They were 25, 26, 28, 27 the previous 4 years. No doubt this is the Lin effect 🙂

  • occupatio

teams that win get more attendance. this is an observable pattern, even with teams without ‘stars.’ lin is a small factor.

  • blueCypher

Hornets were a playoff team a couple years ago though, yet they were still in the bottom tier

  • your son’s voltaire

    the answer is dleague!

  • CJSHYY

    I think so.

if you guard curry and overhelp curry will score 40

    YEAH!!
Warriors’ Tough Revenge on The Bucks… But GS Did It!! Klay’s Back to his great shooting form…
Bulls Vs Pistons went to 4 OT’s – My, my…

  • There’s certainly a big Lin factor.
I know many churches and Asian-American organization that organize yearly events on Lin’s team visiting on road games.
We even have Taiwanese Lin fans traveling across US to visit different games. That should count for a lot of attendance.

  • Steppen03

Not a big fan of D-Rose but I’m a fan … or not – Please don’t disrespect an average NBA player or even below but I still think DRose is still above an average PG.

  • JoeTeam

you are the go to xo person here.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Not only Taiwanese but also fans from Mainland China.

  • JoeTeam

good answer, thank you. Hmmm … then we need Lin to be next to a bigger fast guard? Giannis for JKidd? Crzy me.

  • JoeTeam

    a good night really.

  • JoeTeam

    JLin factor, nice.

  • Singapore BB Fan

GSW getting easy foul calls late in 4Q…
    4Q – GSW took 18 FTs vs Bucks 1 FT…..tough night for Bucks…

  • Hope

I’m going for 1pt per minute, 32/32 for tomorrow.

  • Singapore BB Fan

    Charlotte small market…Lin BIG factor

  • Rick Johnson

Would be great for Lin to be SG against Harden. He could shut down Harden and then since Harden plays no defense he could score >38 pts for a new career high. So many SG get new career highs with Harden defending them

  • sws94

I’m not really a GSW fan. I don’t really like Demond Green. Curry is a good guy and Clay seems OK but they won theirs and, I don’t know, I’d rather see the Spurs win.

  • sws94

What makes you think Harden can be shut down so easily? Much as I don’t like Harden’s laziness and attitude, he is a great offensive player. He has the step back jumper and a great Euro-step and he draws fouls. He’s also a very good passer. He’s not great because he’s a one-way player but when Harden has a tough night, it’s because he shoots poorly, not because a defensive player shuts him down.

  • Rick Johnson

  • Lin Win

    Sorry ! He averages 13.1ppg 5.5ast in 32mpg! Shooting .374 and .22 from 3

That is worst than your average PG.

  • yes, very true
these are very affluent and dedicated Lin fans

  • Lin Win

Not just Lin! Batum deserves credit

  • Acbc

Come on, there is a correlation, even if it isn’t because of Chinese fans, what you just said is answer itself. Why is Charlette winning this year? Lin has a lot to do with it!

    Christine’s highlights.

  • Acbc

In the old days, the team’s would freeze the ball with no time limits and fouls were needed to get the ball back.

“shot clock made an immediate impact. In 1954-55, its first season, NBA teams averaged 93.1 points, an increase of 13.6 points over the previous season. The Boston Celtics became the first team in NBA history to average more than 100 points per game for a season, and three years later, every team did it.”

  • occupatio

if you put it that way, then the increased attendance is due to lin, but indirectly. thats not the same thing as saying that ppl buy more tickets because they want to see lin play.

  • occupatio

thats nice and all that lin is there, but pts-per-game stats is one of the most annoying things about how the nba promotes the game.

  • Singapore BB Fan

..wonder why no hair product brands signing Lin to promote it. try gatsby

  • LinMad

    can Americans bid on this?

  • occupatio

doesnt show lin’s two blocks, and lin had 2 (?) important rebounds at the end game not shown either.

  • Acbc

Colangelo was the owner with Suns when he personally went to Dallas to try to convince Nash to come back to the Suns. That was the piece that made MDA’s offence worked. Marshall isn’t good enough to make an impact with the young players. Lin will be his usual coach Lin mode and build a winning attitude, the same way MDA, and Colangelo would. They both have always valued the pg position as pivotal on the team.

Jerry’s so Bryan was NBA executive of the year with Raptors in 2007, hel’ll soon replace Hinkie and then the whole loser mentality of Sam Hinkie will be gone. I’d expect them to be competitive for the remainder of the season. And really turn it around next year, even without Lin.

  • occupatio

the 3 ball was originally a gimmick created by the ABA in 1967 to compete with the NBA. the NBA eventually adopted it in 1979.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-point_field_goal#History

  • Acbc

I’ve come to that conclusion as well. Look at Bismark Biyombo. The guys a beast defensively. 18 rebounds and 7 blocks. He’s exactly the guy they need but Clifford and CHO wasted his talents away for 2 years before sending him packing to Raptors. Who do they have? Walker and big Al.

  • blubell
  • Lin Win

Jeremy Lin to Bulls (player option and if Lin can start)! Derrick Rose free agency! isn’t so bad
I think the Bulls would give up on Rose if they lose to the Cavs again this season in the playoffs.
    OR
trade him now because the Bulls aren’t looking so good and Rose is dead-weight. The team is already Butler’s now.

Jimmy Butler might take a lot of shots but I would rather have Jimmy at SG since he’s an allstar at it than Nic/Walker.
    Lin can play PG!
He has Pau Gasol who is still a top center to work with.

  • Rzo Vlade

is there a possibility hrnets can get howard

  • Lin Win

That would be complicated. Howard isn’t a good player because he has no work ethic. He’s only in it for the money and doesn’t strive to be better.

  • xeroid

Even home attendances are helped by Lin effect. We travelled from NY to Charlotte for 2 home games. I saw quite a few Asians attending, and the tickets were still available even for season opening game at game time which still have quite a few empty seats.

  • xeroid

No one can completely guard Curry, but Lin did guard Curry when he played with LA and Houston, and as I recall, won a couple of games against Golden Warriors.

  • blueCypher

I think Lin has a lot to do with road attendance. Not so much home attendance so far, they are in the bottom tier.

Lin over help is designed in rinciple by Clifford. The hornets need toughness, rim protection and rebounding. They are really soft inside. Lin isn’t the only one getting burned, it’s your own selective comprehension that singles Lin out as “always” doing that.

  • Acbc

No shot clock. My old coach played international ball and he told us about the old games were long boring affairs with teams winning in the low 30s because they would just dribble and pass around forever.

He’s overhelped all teams he’s been on. I think Lin just likes to overhelp. He’s done it for the Knicks, Rockets, Lakers and now Hornets. It’s a problem sometimes. It’s a bad habit I think. Giving up 3s instead of 2s isn’t a good thing.

  • Hope

When will mda join the 76ers coaching staff? I don’t see him on Philly bench during yesterday game vs Knicks.

  • Haven’t had as much fun watching this game in a long time, I had to write a quick article on Lin’s special performance.
Jeremy Lin serves up a treat against the Raptors http://jhaposts.com/2015/12/19/jeremy-lin-serves-up-a-great-treat-against-the-toronto-raptors/

Hope you enjoy the read and thanks for your support as always. Looking forward to tonight’s game against the Wizards.

  • Brent Yen

    Nice!!

  • Thanks Brent

  • sws94

    Nice article!

  • sws94

Clifford has to work on his end-game possessions. Here’s a clip of a bunch of bad end-game possessions mostly featuring Kembaball that doesn’t work.

  • sws94

Lin does a great job with the pressure here but sees Cody a little too late who was too slow to roll to the basket after setting a so-so screen.

  • Brent Yen

If it is Lin’s 3rd yr on this team, with those bigs…..this possession would end very differently.

  • sws94

This play just had bad written all over it. The ISO Kemba thing isn’t good. Lin had a split second to try to drive but didn’t go and when he gave it back to Kemba, there was hardly any time left on the clock and either it was kicked or Kemba dribbled it off his foot. This wasn’t a good end-of-game possession. ISO isn’t great, and Kemba didn’t get a screen. But they survived it thankfully due to the TimeOut call by Casey.

  • sws94

Looking at it again, Cody really didn’t set a screen. And I agree. Not even 3rd year. Ed Davis sets that screen that’s an easy 2 for that tandem.

  • Brent Yen

The shaky Kemba handle….lol even TOR knew it would be Kemba for the last shot…..LOL

  • Brent Yen

To get how to roll is not that easy for any big…Ed has talent in this regard…LOL space and timing…most bigs just roll hard for nothing…:P

  • sws94

That’s the problem, too predictable. Kemba was breaking his own ankles there.

  • sws94

Should Lin have shot it there? If he missed Cody may have tapped it in. I think even if he did, that’s bad basketball going 1 on 3.

  • Brent Yen

Depends…if it was DH12, he probably should just lob it. If it was Asik, he has to shoot it…LOL Cody is like in between….LOL so….judgement call

  • Brent Yen

The bad was really that Kemba gave up immediately, even before the Time out call…Lin would not do it

  • Yascar

Thanks for sharing. Seems Cliff has been so used to Kemba taking that last shot in close games. Puts some of his decisions this season in perspective.

  • sws94

He goes to the tried-and-true. Not much success in these lowlights, don’t know about overall.

  • sws94

Put it in the files. Cody went Asik on him. Wasn’t the easiest pass, but it could have been handled.

  • sws94

I agree, noticed that. And Lin would have run after him and did everything to prevent that shot. Remember the Draymond Green block?

  • Brent Yen

If you really want to see the problem, it is about Lin and Cody both. One drives and one rolls, both did not pull enough distance from each other, therefore, Biyambo(?) could literally play a one man zone against both. BUT of course it all started with Cody did not initiate enough contact….the play was already broken at that point.

OTOH, Lin still drove…so..like I said, it really depends on what type of the player Cody is..at that moment…LOL. Of course Lin can just float it up too….Since from what we know about Cody, having him working on getting an offensive reb and put back might be easier than him getting a pass down low then trying to beat Biyombo there.

  • martan267

I have to disagree with you. Allowing a higher percentage shot (2s) to occur vs a lower percentage shot (3s) is worse. However, Lin has guarded Curry well when he was assigned to guard him.

  • sws94

OK, Lin should float it up and if he misses, Cody was there. Cody needs to go to screen setting and roll school.

  • Brent Yen

I am one of the few that hates floaters, but the resulting chances for offensive rebound can not be ignored. Lin knows it, he floats when his defender were rotating from weak side. But he never force shots.

  • sws94

I’ll call him Botombo, because that’s what he was acting like in that game. Channelling Dikembe.

  • Brent Yen

LOL well…he is a good pick up by TOR.

  • sws94

Getting easy shots for the big man is his forte. It’s just, the positioning and speed of that play didn’t develop right.

  • Brent Yen

That is not easy, not everyone can be Duncan and Parker like combo in 21 games..

  • sws94

Right, takes time. This is their practice, really.

  • Brent Yen

And it is NBA level defense…LOL we Know Kemba would just shoot that…LOL I would rather Kemba shot it anyway, he is really not that talented at passing ….unlike Batum

  • Brent Yen

So obviously the reason EC is catching up with WC is because Lin moved to the east….LOL….JK…wait?! am I?

  • sws94

He did make a great bounce pass to Lin on the Lin cut but overall, Kemba’s passing is just average and below average for a PG. He actually tends to turn it over when he tries to make thread the needle passes that Lin and Batum can make.

  • Brent Yen

That Bounce pass was easy…relatively….Not taking credit away from Kemba…it was a great play

  • sws94

Problem is, get burned twice helping in the paint and can’t recover to the open 3 point shooter who hits the shot results in 6 points, not 4. It’s equivalent to 3 2s.

  • sws94

Just glad to see him passing to Lin and looking for him. Both of those guys assisting each other rather than Lin passes to Kemba who then goes ISO is good progress.

  • Yascar

He’s expected to be with the team on their road trip from December 26- January 2 according to one of the articles.

  • Brent Yen

It would be very awkward/funny if Kemba did not pass and Lin standing there frozen in disbelieve…LOL

  • sws94

    That’s happened!

  • I am The Jason

Lin, Isaiah Thomas, Dragic, Kevin Love, Reggie Jackson all came from the West. All their new respectable teams are doing better. I know Cleveland is better b/c of a certain King but he has help from K Love. Hornets and Pistons really need to thank their new point guards.

  • CJSHYY
  • Acbc

    Lol, lincredible!

  • Acbc

    Clifford is sooooo predictable.

  • Acbc

I agree with the anaylis that Clifford is stuck on Kemba on PG and this is why Clifford gies about setting up convoluted schemes to hide the fact that they just really want Kemba and Batum as 1, 2, and Hairston as starter.

Last game however Lin as starter did pretty well against a tough team that almost beat GSW with Lowrey scoring 41pts. He missed a crucial foul shot in the last minute to tie the game to lose that game. ( Lin off course would have buried it ).

In principle, I don’t necessarily agree that size differential is all that important. We’re often only talking about 2-3 inches and Lin has guarded against guys like DeRozen equally well if not better than other bigger defenders. Look at Lamb or Ross, they can’t defend anyone. Clifford makes too big a deal of length. One of the greatest of all time defensive players and team players is Russell who was only 6,10″ and was the only player that could stop Wilt Chamberlain 7’1″ who was 2-3 inches taller. Wilt was unstoppable and I think still holds the record for 100 pts scored in one game.

Charles Barkley, Dennis Rodman are all undersized players that was more than capable of making up the size deficit. Bismark Biyomba is also undersized but was a beast against the Horents with 18 rebounds and 7 blocks. Psycho T would be as good if given a chance by Clifford. But Clifford is stuck on the height differential and refuses to see anything else.

  • sws94

    Probably.

  • Dorothy

Psalm: Could you please post the correct countdown game time at the upper right corner? It is 1 hour later than the actual game time. It made me late in one game before. Thanks.

  • Greencar

JL played one good game and all these hooplas, if he was non Chinese it would be just another game. JL is bad for the NBA, draws too much attention to himself, very selfish.

although I still want JLin to start, i care more about him getting starters minutes.

  • PETE B

on this playcall , dantoni > Clifford imho , no trust on lin
    ALMOST LOST THE DANG GAME!!!

  • Acbc

Like I keep saying, Clifford gave up on him and Benched him for 2 seasons, just like he’s doing now to Psycho T. They are literally the same size and same defensive type player.

The irony is that they just switched teams because psycho t left raptors and Biyomba left Hornets.

  • PETE B

is it any wonder Lin came out in OT and 3 pt knock down?
I think that was a SHOW I can make game winners TOOO

  • Acbc

Yeah, he’s always using his court sense to help teammates. But then he’s also making great decisions with that help also.

WHY DO LIN FANS FOCUS ALWAYS ON THE NEGATIVE? All bball, all sports is about risk/ reward. That’s why poker is a sport! It takes talent to gage winning percentages that only shows up at the end of the game. In the case of over helping, it’s a matter of making opponents lower their percentages on offensive rebounds and interior attacks. If teams are killing you inside, you need to make gambles to change that, otherwise they are going to lose anyways.

Why do NFL teams blitz? They do it as a gamble to put pressure on QBs and to put doubt in their minds. Gambling on odds is what good players and coaches do. Why do Lin fans always focus on the obvious “mistakes” when in fact it’s like gambling on a blitz. Every once in a while the defence is going to get burned on a TD long bomb. That’s just the way the game is played.

Lin gambled against the Blazers on a last minute play while Houston that saved the game for them when he left his own man to help Bev who lost Lilliard. Had Lin been on the floor in game six of the playoffs that year, Lin would have also done that and saved the game and series for Houston. But Mchale being a bad coach, decided to sub out Lin who had totally dominated Lilliard in the last quarter.

  • PETE B

Rick is close w Clifford and the Hornet’s FO . EVERYONE CAN BE LOYAL TO THEIR OWN JOB SECURITY, I won’t knock it. HIS PERSONAL BB MAY ALIGN W CLIFFORD ON THIS ISSUE AS WELL , and I respect a journalist opinion too

but the timing of this article after JLin has a big game starting does bother me
if this is a preemptive move to control fans minds about JLin being a bench role, or an agenda thing
i have a warning History does repeat itself , things with Lin fans and Houston Rockets beat writers became toxic overnight as The Agenda to raise Hardens usage to the top of the NBA and Bench Lin became clear

  • sws94

We’re not focusing on the negative. In a situation where Lin has to guard a really good 3 point shooter Lin has an annoying tendency to leave him at the arc to overhelp. If it is a really good 3 point shooter don’t help. Simple as that. Stay like glue on them and make them put it on the floor or take a contested 3.

There has to be some balance of acknowledging the wonderful aspects of his game and things than need improvement. In talking about guarding a 3 point shooter, this is appropriate to bring up Lin’s tendency to overhelp. No one is saying Lin hasn’t played tenacious, fantastic defense but this is one area where he does tend to give up points.

  • Acbc

The one thing you can always count on is human nature. Good or bad, they act always to preserve themselves first and foremost.

I just knew that Lin would go back to the bench, just as Houston did that to Lin even after he had 2 consecutive monster games over 30 pts and a third over 22-25pts to come second as player of the week in 2013. Just as Lin was put on the bench when he was challenging KoBe in LA. Everyone wants Lin to play for them, but no one wants him to outshine anyone on the teams.

That’s why maybe just maybe, Lin will get a chance in Philli with Colangelo and MDA. The other major reason is Sixers fans are so tired of losing that they just may welcome Linsanity.

  • sws94

Um, Lin had the ball from Kemba and passed it back to him. It was a broken play and Clifford needed to come up with something better than a Kemba ISO bailout. But Lin didn’t execute either here.

  • troll troll troll troll troll… lalalalala…

  • heart

Yep. Lin saw an opening to drive but had to give KW the rock for that last possession of the end of the game. And how many times we have witnessed KW and NB made crucial turnovers or contested jump shots for the last moment glory shot to determine the outcome of the game??? Only when the rock was pass around indiscriminately to the open guy, that was when the winning shot was made. Case in point, MW to JL for 3 and Hawes to PJ for the final 3. Both crucial 3s were needed in OT.

  • PETE B

    To Lin doubters,

It’s true 35 pts is not amazingly rare in the NBA , but the background is much different. other guys score 35 bc they are the 1st 2nd option. or they are shameless ball hogs. Lin puts 35 in teammball concept , playing 47 min w OT .
so far on this team Lin is a 3rd 4th option as a weakside corner catch and shoot SG
is it only bc Batum wasn’t feeling healthy that Lin can actually play Basketball? seems so to me
so it’s worthy of all the attention and celebration Lin gets bc, he’s marginalized in Charlotte

  • sws94

Me too. Put him in in crucial moments of the game and let him get around 27-30 minutes. Clifford said Lin will close most games. That’s better than PJ starting and playing no more than 20 minutes in most games. Things are OK for Lin in Charlotte. He’ll get more opportunities and I think he’ll shine in most of them like he did in the previous game.

  • sws94

Lin controlled a late play and it didn’t result in a basket. See the video below. We can’t keep going back to 2012 and a successful late-game play. Lin has messed up some late-game plays too. I’m not being negative, I’m being realistic. Every player has successes and failures, I saw Magic Johnson and Jordan mess up end of game plays. Lin was in the lineup, made crucial plays in OT, played a monster game and his coach had him in the game 47 minutes because he not only needed Lin, he believed in him.

  • PETE B

I like Harden too , and of course I understand that they want to use harden to the max usage. but it was wrong in hindsight to lower Lin’s usage in Houston and let Harden rest on D consistently , It’s not CHAMPIONSHIP BASKETBALL
    but Houston HERO BALL

  • heart

That’s exactly what Cliff wants PJ to do for NB. Cliff again reiterated this plan in his recent radio interview on 18 Dec.

  • martan267

Again, we need to take into account the likelihood or probability of a 2s shot (a layup or close Mid range shot) vs 3s shot. The relationship of shots attempted vs shots made is not one to one. You’d have to attempt at least three 3s for the probability to make a basket. For the 2s shot, you have more than 50% chance to make it in, thus a more efficient shot. You’d want to stop the shot which is more likely to score. Jeremy is playing smart defense.

Here is a snapshot of the NBA league average of types of shots attempted and percentage made from this site http://www.82games.com/comm23.htm
    https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/528ebd8118688e6148d7833b613608959819536bd5c57d7753a8929043255c51.jpg

  • 1mtoldman

its seldom right; to correct it one time would only confuse people and encourage them to not ignore it and seek the correct game time elsewhere (which is easy to find).

  • james brown

but what do JLIn do when he’s on the court with Batum and KW? isn’t it what PJ was doing too? was Cliff saving JLIN for what, if he can only play a minimal of 20 minutes of game, and dont tell me about the 47 minutes he played laastgame, it was an anomaly because he needed a player of jlin caliber, can defend as well as has offense.

If you have a player whose good, bt give him opprotunity not to be the best of his maximun potential and yet give other who has of little potentials to make JLIN minumum PJ’s maximun is not giving both players justice. Of course PJ will take it whatever package it is because he know his capacity and surviving is his goal in the NBA, but JLIN potential on the other hand has been taken at the side as of the moment.

Giving JLIN that minutes last game only proved that you know his game yet you don’t want to focus on it because he’s not on the priority list just like what Houston has done to Jeremy.

I am waiting if this will not be the same as what other team has done to Lin, but the start seems not directing at the positive side for JLIN, but on the contrary, jeremy once more is Making his play being reinvented by HIM just to get what is due for him!

i will also give it “ONe game at a Time”.

  • sws94

It’s not smart defense when you have a Patty Mills or someone comparable come into a game and hit 3 of 5 from behind the arc. If a guy seems cold, then do it. If he has a reputation of putting them down, stay on him. You have to be smarter in the flow of the game and who you are guarding to try to contest as many 3s as possible. NBA players have a knack of knocking down the ones that matter.

I also wonder if those stats include late-clock and quarter closing heaves.

So I disagree. I don’t think it’s a good gamble at all times. Lin has to assess the player’s ability to knock them down better.

  • 1mtoldman

but professor: what of those who say human natue does not exist.

“A couple of years ago I co-taught a course in philosophy and science with a colleague in the Philosophy department at Stony Brook University. At some point the issue of “human nature” came up, and my colleague looked at me with a mix of surprise and pity: human nature, she maintained, is a quaint concept that has been long abandoned by serious scholars, so why are we still talking about it?” –Massimo Pigliucci

(44% of posters at “debate.org” agree with pigliucci’s colleague).

  • 1mtoldman

well lins last “big shot” at playing “his way” only came because kemba was sick, then there was a revert to form. so….

however this one big game was huge in terms if even temporarily reversing historic statistical downtrends year over year for lin and coming as it was on a nite when all the biggest nba stars not named steph curry were on court and lin out performed them all is something quite wonderful in and of itself.

  • sws94

In the context of team and all that Clifford has to consider with the injuries he has, Cliff seems to think Lin is being used in the way that benefits the team. He also looks at chemistry and experience with guys too and is working Lin into both units.

It’s one thing to want Lin to start. But we are looking at the tree and not the forest sometimes. I’d love Lin to start too but I understand that in many NBA teams, his ability to organize a bench can be highly valuable to a team and at the same time his ability to slide to the 2 and finish games and be clutch will demand that he gets near starter or starter minutes.

  • james brown

and that’s a hero ball mentality coach! a good coachmakes the team responsible for the defense of the team as well as contribute in offense if warranted and not the other way around. I don’t get a coach who say he’s a Defensive minded coach who cater a player not to give his best on defense on is team for the sake of his offense.

Jlin did both last game and it was good, so whats stopping him asking all players to do the same if they want to win the coveted reward?

  • Acbc

Yeah, he did that in 2013 against Philli when Lin had 9 3s. Houston didn’t make much of a deal about it until Parsons did it later. Lin had 34 pts that game but the last shot was given to Parsons on a corner 3 that he choked on. Lin was the hot hand that game, but noooooo, Mchale, in his infinite wisdom gave it to Parsons to win the game.

The first shot in OT, Lin made a point of it by sinking his 3.

  • occupatio

cody is stupid. and its not the first time. either with screening (im)properly, or finding the open spot to create a passing lane to himself. ive pretty much given up on him as a roll man / dive man. no amount of repetitions can teach these things, esp finding the open spot, and catching well.

  • Acbc

I guess I’m with the 56% that feel that this is simply a case of history repeating itself is JUST HISTORY REPEEATING ITSELF and nothing to do with human nature.

  • sws94

I haven’t given up on him but he’s not doing a good or consistent job setting screens and even a poorer job rolling. That’s why I think the Hornets big men are better of just getting a pass and having Lin cut and they find him. Most of them are good passers.

  • occupatio

chandler and ed davis didnt need 30 games to learn to do these BASICS with lin. they did it instantly because they got it.

  • james brown

being near starter is not consider recognition of his potential if the coach knew whats best for the team. Lets face it and accept that Kemba is the anointed one and unless cliff changed that scenario and Kemba loses his favor, Jeremy lin’s dream to become a starter is lost with Hornets if he will stick with them. He made it clear in that order – Be a ROTATION Player, then become a STARTER and win CHAMPIONSHIP…he said he was already a rotation player and vying as a starter that’s why when opportunity knocks at the door, he opt to grab it and let fate decide..yes he was a 1 year starter with Houston then, but after a series of unknown event, McHale put him in the bench even without reason..what was in the mind of JLIN then, he was Frustrated and disappointed as revealed by his recent statements, but he did play marvelous even at that instance as he is doing right now with Hornets.

It seems you are the person who is looking at the tree right now and not looking at the forest..You see, the forest is the POTENTIAL of JLIN and the tree is the HORNETS, limiting JLIN with the hornets is equally saying that JLIN has no chance surviving with other teams.

Again i know that you are being true to your opinion, but lately accepting what others are seeing too. You seem believing the fact that JLIN is not being used also the way a GOOD COACH should used a highly volatile and effective player, by making decision based on one factor of politics. BUT hoping CLIFF will slide him to the positions that cater to JLIN comes only when Cliff has nowhere to go..as example of Injury to is prized fighters or when theres no other agenda, like the ASG, TRADE, SHOWCASING of players.

to each his own i guess…and IF trends continues, we will witness JLIn’s form and value to its Core!

  • sws94

Again I say, I like Lin with Clifford and other coaches as opposed to MDA. MDA’s system is strong and well suited to Lin offensively BUT, it caters to Lin’s strengths of PnR. Lin can PnR in his sleep. With Clifford, and the poor roll men on this squad, Lin is getting great at building new strengths like cutting. He’s learning how to play with another very active PG. He’s learning how to play as a 3rd facilitator on the floor. On the other side of the floor since he’s trusted as the best defending PG he’s getting stronger and stronger at PnR defense, post-up defense, and he seems to be getting better at positioning himself for rebounds because he’s trusted to go out and get them (none of the McHale’s only Beverley can do that insulting nonsense here). Really, he’s getting closer to be able to be great in any system, not just an MDA type.

I understand that there is a possibility that Lin gets the key PG starting role on the rebuilding MDA team. But MDA isn’t the HEAD coach there and I think that’s a 2-4 year process. Seeing Lin on a loser at this time is not attractive in any way for me. So, that doesn’t appeal to me in addition to all I wrote above.

  • occupatio

in the last game, when lin drove, cody simultaneously shadowed lin’s drive, so that he brought his big man next to lin. the result was that both lin and cody ended up running in parallel. no competent diver does anything that stupid. you cant teach stupid like that.

  • blueCypher
  • martan267

I was speaking on general terms on why you should stop the higher percentage shots and why this is considered a rational decision and worth the risk to cover. I don’t think Jeremy leaves his man all the time to do help defense. Jeremy is not “dumb” to leave a hot shooter alone and I think he knows how to assess another player’s ability. He game plans his opponents prior to games as he’s alluded to in past interviews.

I agree that you should stay on the one who is hot IF you are assigned to guard him. At times Jeremy doesn’t get assigned to guard the point guard. In the last game with GSW Curry was guarded by Kemba.

Also, I really don’t thing the stats would be affected by quarter closing heaves (4 shots) as that would be too few to compare against over 100 shots in a game.

As for late clock shots, as they are part of the game flow, I don’t think they should be discounted.

As we have different opinions on Jeremy’s capability on knowing when to apply team ball/ help defense and applying it appropriately ( I think he does know and apply it well), let’s just agree to disagree.

    I appreciate the discussion!

  • james brown

But how many times did KW has done this and Failed and how many times he was successful..and let’s see the percentage of JLIN too if we wanted to know whose the clutch between the two. Who makes Garbage into gold and who turns the Gold into garbage? but i guess its no longer the issue, isn’t it? its the recognition of the team that must be addressed because no one is making a dynamic changes to the detriment of the team!

All has experienced non successful late game plays….But to make it always your Bread and Butter in every closed games makes it a bit..what you call it again, easy to decipher by the opposing teams?

    “PREDICTABILITY”

  • james brown

it was not a broken play, its was KW last shot play that JLIN did pass back during closed games, plain and simple.

  • Acbc

Lol, I just checked “debate.org” and googled “is human nature obsolete?” and 75% are as dumb as me and believe that it’s not obsolete.

  • sws94

I think he’s getting close to it. It’s Kemba’s team or Kemba and Batum’s team but Lin is getting close to being as crucial to the team as they are. In fact, some are thinking in Charlotte that he is. And that he was underutilized to this point. I think Lin should focus on scoring more. Because that gets recognition, not the non-stats stuff Lin is getting. Lin scores 24 in this game people will notice him. 12, not as much even if he plays great D and such.

  • james brown

and that is the OPPORTUNITY that should never be discounted just because he’s doing good with the Hornets team now.

  • occupatio

cliff mostly has them go 4 out, to do high PnR with Kemba. not much to say here.

  • martan267

I disagree. Lin has guarded Curry in the past and was able to contain him. Lin does not always over help. He applies help defense appropriately.

Besides, everybody gets burned in the NBA. I don’t think Jeremy is consistently being burned by the one he is assigned to guard. Often, his man has lower than his average points when he guards them. That’s a sign that he does not overhelps and provides proper attention to his man when he needs to.

Jeremy is all about winning the game, so he’s always going to think about the entire floor and the entire group of opponents, not just narrowly focus on his man.

  • james brown

maybe that was the Peptalk that “AjRafael” his friend was saying on twitter..exerting his efforts too on his offense….

JLIN’s interview by Dell focused on Rhythm..and Jlin knew that his on previous games were not there.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

But that is going to be a life chance for Lin to prove himself the leadership he’s born with. He played for Harvard, didn’t he? Harvard wasn’t a powerhouse, is it? Harvard is getting better and is in NCAA regularly now. Lin can change a team and I love to see it from the beginning.

  • cdblue10

No one knows that Hornets is a good team until they start winning ,maybe Lin factor,Batum or Lamb, nobody knows until Lin will get his team and let’s see what happens. Some pundits even predicted that Hornets will be a bottom dweller in terms of standing.

  • Spot

Jeremy is not a sixth man at best standing in the corner while others play selfishly.

They know MDA wants him and they’re trying to pump up his value. That’s it.

I don’t believe in Clifford anymore.

  • Briiick

Well said. It takes a good coach, a supporting management and a difference maker to change a team immediately. They have done that in Suns. Now replacing Nash with Lin, I expect a similar exciting team from them.

Lin came in as a bench player as a backup SG. Then he scored 35. He came in as a backup PG and he led the team win 7 straight games. He was Linsane. Now he is Hairsane starting as SG when the celebrated Nick Batum gets sick. Nick got paid more than 5 times than Lin. I couldn’t believe there is a player in the world who’s 5 times as good as Lin. If there is one, he isn’t born yet.
Lin has done the impossible from time to time and makes good the first opportunity that he can be a big timer in NBA basketball. He was a PG. Now he plays SG and is equally good after his coach teaching him for how long; just 3 months. Jeremy is a genius. Give him a role in the team and he gives you back the magical transformation.
There is no other in NBA history that could do the same; he swam upstream in the league. He flourishes with good coaching. His coaches in the past were almost all fired. BS is catching his last breath in NBA. MDA has come back as an associate head coach for almost the worst team in NBA history. Ibelieve that Lin will take this team to a championship。

  • sws94

I hear retain his former glory with his former coach. That’s what I’m hearing. Not paying attention to the points above on how Lin becomes a stronger player in any system.

  • sws94

Have you been watching the last 4 games?

  • Briiick

Well said. I hope Lin consider 76ers seriously next season only if they provide him a contract around $10M/yr. Lin definitely knows that the size of a contract weights much more than any promise.

  • sws94

Hard to read that last part, Kwok Wai Lai. Love the spirit!

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Whatever, whatsoever! Lin has already make history as a PG and now a SG with the oddest situations that you can find in the league. He’s always treated like an underdog. He got paid peanuts and has turned out to be the star of the game not once but twice in different roles that he was given to. He is almost the least paid player in the team if you didn’t count the undrafted rookie, Harrison, the D-leaguer Troy Daniels, and PJ Hairston, 1 year veteran who wasn’t even given an extension by the team. Even Brian Roberts got paid more than Jeremy Lin. Has Brian Roberts ever got 35 points in a game?

  • sws94

They are 1-27. The one win was against the 4-22 Lakers.

  • Acbc

What was obvious from these 2 games is that Kemba’s flu game, Clifford was still hedging his bets and kept game plan reserved for Kemba. In the last game, Batum was out and Clifford HAD to game plan for Lin to score. Lin scored as he was told to do. Begs to question, what then is Lin’s game plan on the second unit? He’s there to promote Lamb and Kam and play defence.

Lin has always been able to play up to Linsnaity levels when game plans are made to promote him! Guess what, we all know that Lin is used as the heavy lifter for others. In Charlette, he’ll always be a backup.

  • sws94

    Maybe, doubt an NBA game.

  • sws94

    Curry is in the west.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Anyone who scores 35 points in an NBA game deserves the attention. Tell me the % of player in NBA who has scored 35 points or more in a game. I rest my case。

  • sws94

It’s totally broken ISO. Once he gave it to Lin it was broken. And Lin really didn’t execute anything. I think they were mentally spent and it showed.

  • for some reason, the schedule from early season was not correct.

Either DST affected it or I got an inaccurate list.

I fixed it to 19:00 EST, not 20:00 EST
I will check next few games

    Thanks for letting me know

  • cdblue10

Let’s face it,Lin will opt out next year, whether Hornets will make a good offer but w/o a starting role,Lin is aligned to play somewhere else.

  • sws94

If he’s the student of the game he wants to be, time to study Pop and others in the same situations.

  • sws94

    Me too. Well done.

  • sws94

Kemba was terrible. He didn’t execute. Kembaball at the end of the game situations is why I posted this. It doesn’t seem to work well so Clifford needs to come up with something better.

  • PETE B

this Lin is compettive to a fualt lol

  • sws94

Next year is next year and that’s up to Lin. Right now, he’s playing well in this team and at least he gets minutes and closes. If it is enough or not is up to Jeremy.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Jeremy has given him the worst pressure in the world. This is what Batum has to tell Clifford.

Hi, coach could you start Jeremy as SG please? I will move to the 3.
    Why so?
Dammit, people expects me to put in 35 this next game and are you kidding me. My season high is only 33. I’m not going to play for this team next year if you ever want to start me as SG again.

  • Hope

Lin really wants to be starter, be part of a pioneer group to win championship as starter. 76ers with mda is one of the choices if cha doesn’t want to give him that.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Lin did what he’s supposed to do. He passed the ball to Cody but Cody just couldn’t make the play. If it were Ed Davis, he would have dunked it.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Kemba is the franchise player and the ball goes to him in the last possession. It’s up to him to make or break it.

  • sport

Gets minutes? Lin only averages 18 minutes per game and in previous games only 15minutes or less that’s not getting minutes. Also he got long minutes last game cause Batum was out this game he’ll be back to the bench. I doubt Lin’s happy about being a bench player but he’s making the most of what he’s unfairly given!

  • cdblue10

Pressure is on Hornets to make him believe that they love him to come back and get a bigger role.No matter what, he’ll command >10mil next year.Hornets has the money but are they willing to consider him at least a 3rd option on the team or just a player coming off the bench?.Lin of course will choose his best option.

  • sws94

He’s been getting 27 and 32 minutes in the games before the last one. That’s starter minutes. His minutes and usage are trending up.

  • cdblue10

Their is still a possibility that Hornets can still acquire him next year but they need to sell hard.

  • sws94

Ed would have set a real screen and been in a great position to receive a Lin lob. Successful play with Ed. No doubt.

  • james brown

batum were also sick the last 2 games where Jeremy got his minutes..just saying too!

  • blubell
  • Briiick

They need to sell to Lin like what they have been selling to Batum.

  • james brown

that is a possibilities too..give JLIN the reason to stay and he will stay…

  • sws94

Lin is being used fairly in my opinion and his usage and role is trending up.

  • james brown

hope they are doing it now because timing for them is important because of 76ers development..

  • sws94

They haven’t hinted anything yet. I don’t know why this is so much a topic now. It’ll be settled in time but we aren’t there yet.

  • man, when I get the flu, it takes at least a week, maybe about 10 or so days, to get better. When I sprain my ankle, I need at least three weeks, normally longer, to heal. It’s amazing that these athletes heal so fast or play at such a high level while injured or sick.

  • james brown

what’s apparent rightnow is Lamb beingthe same as before, if his shooting is not working, his defense is a liability and it affects his PT..look at PJ closing last game..his playing hard speaks highly of him right now unlike Lamb who always shows as if his not interested in playing?

  • james brown

but those example you used were the time Batum can’t play, because he was sick?.

I look at the variable not to be blindsided

    .just saying.

  • blubell

Wow. what a way to motivate your own player. smh
    https://twitter.com/MarkG_Medina/status/678312323442847744

  • james brown

    meaning? LOL

  • sws94

    He’s no comedian.

  • sws94

I’m not looking at Batum more than how Lin was in usage in both the first and second units. Also, Cliff said he’ll be finishing. I think finishing is more important than starting.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Nick Batum SG season high 33 points 11-19 5-10 in 3Ps. 6-7 FTs, 5 Rebounds, 6 assists, 39 minutes, 2 TOs in reg. time. +5 in the game against TrailBlazers (11-17)
Jeremy Lin SG 35 points 13-22 2-5 in 3Ps 7-9 FTs 5 Rebounds, 4 assists, 3 BLKs, 3TOs, 4PFs 47 minutes in OT +11 in the game against Toronto Raptors (17-11) in the last game of a back to back.

  • blubell
  • takemeback2reaganyears

Even worse, it’s an insulted, not only to Brown but also to Mitch. Mitch gave him junk rosters.

  • james brown

JLIN said that starting is important because it sets the tone of the game, though he also mentioned closing is the most important of the two for him…

usage is not usage alone without any reason…so before you can qualify it as good usage, you know why it was good for what reason or bad for any reason too…players affects each other thats why chemistry is a factor..

  • occupatio

    whats your point?

lin getting 35 pts is nice and all but it’s not a big deal. any good player can score 30 regularly if given the minutes and role.

reggie jackson has had several 30+ pts games this season and i dont even think hes that good.

  • Spot

4 games. Just 4 games. One with Batum out.
    When Philadelphia were hiring MDA.

    I remember the barely 20 minutes… I still don’t believe in Hornets.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

You make the point. I’m only supposed to give you the fact. If you think any good player can score 30 points regularly, who is going to argue with you? Dammit, the 3 block shots were impressive. Lin made 4 PFs playing great defense against Cory Joseph and Kyle Lowry, who were paid a lot more than him.

  • cdblue10

These kind of discussions will benefit Lin on the long run because I’m pretty sure scouts,FO’s and GM’s are going board to board and getting the pulse of every fans. You’ll prolly not going to agree with it but insiders do that because they know that fans are knowledgeable and always give the best scenarios of every good players that are available in the market.

  • sws94

You really may be placing more importance on starting than JLin is. We’ll see. He chose a team for now where he knew he wouldn’t start. Right now, he is playing the role that Clifford described before the season started.

  • sws94

I don’t agree. Scouts look at players and stats, I don’t think they care about what fans say. Much of it is extreme anyway.

  • sws94

OK, if you want to keep bringing up MDA and Philly, then I have nothing to add really. Lin came to Charlotte to play on the 2nd team and alongside Kemba to take pressure off of him. That’s what he is doing now about 1/3rd into the season and I think that is developing.

  • that makes sense a lot

  • adele

Very true. Thats why we need to promote Lin in our own way.

  • cdblue10

Morey once said and didn’t deny that he lurks on real gm’s and their own site to acquire possible players.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Lin is not the PG that his former coach wanted him to play. Lin is a real combo guard that can play in both positions. He’s playing at the next level. MDA is not the same coach that he’s dissed and threw around anymore. MDA has received his recognition that he well deserves. They will join hands to make history again not like before.

  • TTNN

    you are kidding, right?

  • Spot

Yes, cause Sixers are without a PG and they have a bright future ahead.

Hornets will be mediocre again if Jeremy leaves.

  • occupatio

cdblue10 is serious but morey was kidding.

  • joyce ward

First off, I think the ship has sailed for the MDA and JLin collaboration. Lin is a much more skilled player. I think Lin is making his presence known in Charlotte and I think likes the coaches, environments and his teammates. I absolutely believe that Clifford challenges Lin defensively and lin likes that. It was very refreshing to see them come out playing team ball and I think that has been a lin influence.I was very encouraged by Clifford ‘s last postgame interview. He was almost fan girling over lin’s defensive plays. Also I think Dell Curry prefers the 2nd unit led by lin over the starters, just by his commentaries sometimes. I think Dell Curry would love to bring Steph back home to the Hornets. Also, not worried about lin being a starter,it has always been God’s perfect timing for his life. Also, I have a gut feeling Batum won’t be signing with Charlotte next season.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

That certainly will inspire Lin more to join the 76er. The tough gets going in tougher situations.
I can almost guarantee that the 76ers will give Lin the starting role either as PG or SG or both.

  • sws94

No it doesn’t. Nothing is inspiring about being on the worse team in the NBA. Losing with the Lakers was tough. Lin hates losing.

  • TTNN

    wow, 76ers have a bright future…. hmmm

  • sws94

I don’t know where you get the notion that the Sixers have a bright future ahead. At best, it is uncertain and hopefully they can start the turnaround process.

  • blueCypher

I agree. Reggie Jackson has the minutes and the role , naturally since they gave him like 80million. While I dont think he’s a scrub , he’s not top75

  • sws94

Ship has sailed. Thanks for that. That describes it well. Hi, Joyce.

  • cdblue10

Whether if I’m serious or not it won’t matter, people believe what they believe

  • blueCypher

I have the opposite feeling with Batum. I think the Hornets want to pay him big and he wants to stay.

  • occupatio

as for the batum signing, i think youve mentioned before that you didnt think hed want to stay in charlotte because its not cosmopolitan enough or metropolitan enough or whatever the case may be. however, do players really care that much where the team is? during the season, they are on the road much of the time, and during the offseason, they can go anywhere they want. if location mattered so much, LA would have done better with free agents recently than they have.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Then Lin’s gracious enough to let Kemba finish the job on the Toronto Raptors when they thought Jeremy would take over the game in OT.

  • sws94

    The Clippers?

  • CJSHYY

I think Batum will stay too. He will be #1 guy in the team. Just like what he said when asked about to stay in the team… “Why not…?”

  • sws94

That’s not exactly a yes. I’m not sure. I don’t know if he is either.

  • CaliUSMC

Where’s this Washington game thread at!?

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Don’t be too hard on Cody. He’s still raw as the starting center. He’s not known to be the one who dominated under the rim.

  • blueCypher

He will be part of the hornets core main guys, he will probably #1 or #2. I don’t see why he would want to go anywhere else. He never got that in his years in Portland.

  • CJSHYY

Exactly, he will get the big money & big role in this team that he will not get from the rest of 29 teams.

  • adele

    MDA all the way!

  • Briiick

Well said. I have the same feeling about Batum too. Hornets have given him more roles to play hoping to sign him cheaper, LOL.

  • occupatio

just speaking for myself, and certainly many players might think differently, if im an nba player, its just like a hotel. doesnt make much difference if the hotel is home or away. during the offseason, i go wherever i want, and id have homes in multiple locations.

the big difference is that if you have kids (which i dont), you might want to see them as much as possible when the team is at home. i dont know what batum’s family life is like, but if youre single, it doesnt matter that much. if you want to party, all the away games in the fun cities are chances to do that.

  • blueCypher

Ya, If I were him it is a no brainer honestly

  • adele

    Im with you!

  • blueCypher

I think Batum will command near-max level money next year.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

99 thumbs up for you except one, the ship has never sailed.

  • joyce ward

I know we always don’t agree, but I agree that Charlotte could be a good fit for lin. I think lin likes the coaches and I absolutely believe that Clifford knows that lin is the glue for this team. He knows lin is super intelligent and he will make very good decisions in clutch moments. I also truly believe that now Step has second baby on board, he might be thinking home. He is making less than thompson, and green at this point. So it will be very interesting when extension time rolls around for Steph.

  • new game thread
    http://www.jlinportal.com/g26-cha-tor-game-thread/

Coming off the 1st full-blown Linsanity game as Hornets, how would Jeremy Lin follow in the next game?

If Nic Batum still cannot play due to illness, will Lin/Kemba backcourt be expected to pick up the scoring load again? Batum is listed as probable.

    https://twitter.com/rick_bonnell/status/678251374728060928

Let’s go, JLin! Let’s continue to shoot at least 8FG & 4 FT attempts. Relax, be your aggressive self & just play your game on matter what happens

  • Kwok Wai Lai

It really depends if Batum wants to play SG anymore; after Lin doing his 35 points a game starting in his place, I really doubt if he wants to play SG any more.

  • sport

JLin asked Cliff if he would start during off season and Cliff replied saying right now he’d be coming off bench but if he played well he might start. That gave JLin hope to betting on his skills to win over a starting role except that’s not the case. During off season JLin also said he’d be playing along side Kemba but that obviously didn’t happen. JLin is no doubt playing more efficient and better than Kemba and Batum yet doesn’t get the start while the likes of PJ does! They are also playing Batum at SG even though JLin’s the best choice when Batum is best at SF!

  • 1mtoldman

i thought it was from the unnatural motions involved in actually hitting some shots the last few games.

  • joyce ward

Most players want bigger markets and he has said in the past that he liked the Raptors. I think it’s because it’s a French speaking country

  • Briiick

    Exactly. KW at 1 + Batum at 2 <<<<<<<< KW at 1.5 + Lin at 1.5

  • joyce ward

What about when MKG comes back?

  • Kwok Wai Lai

If Lin likes coach Silas, I believe that 76ers will offer Silas a good contract too. Lin is just the player that 76ers needs. All the 76ers FO needs to do is to offer Lin a decent contract plus the promise to start him. MDA will make Lin the offer that Lin can’t say no.
There is absolutely nothing that the Hornets could do to keep Lin.

  • sport

Lakers were tanking and tailoring to Kobe and BS that’s different! NBA is forcing Sixers to change and I trust MDA more than any other coach!

  • occupatio

i see. toronto is cold tho, lol.
me, id just go where the money is. benjamin franklins talk, but its neither french nor english.

  • Briiick

That is why you thought he won’t be signing, right ?

  • sws94

He’s playing alongside Kemba. Why are you saying he’s not? Many of us are complaining that it is happening too much. And might start doesn’t mean start. He starts if Batum or Kemba or PJ or others can’t go for sure.

  • joyce ward

Batum is French and they think they are better than Americans.

  • joyce ward

    Right

  • Briiick

Oh sure as long as the facilitating is shared between the duo 50% each. At least the dynamic duo are super exciting to watch, fast and creative.

  • sws94

He seems more content in Charlotte than he has in any team besides the Linsanity Knicks. So, maybe it is a good fit.

Steph? Don’t know. His daughter is young so moving to Charlotte may not disrupt her schooling and so-forth. He’s from Charlotte so, you never know.

  • sport

But bottom line if they don’t start Lin permanently this season then there’s no way he will stay.

  • sws94

Oh, ok. Didn’t think of that. Toronto is more English first than Montreal but there is certainly a lot of French spoken there. It is a higher-profile metropolis than the more laid-back Charlotte. I just don’t think the Raptors coach is very good.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

I hate to be in Clifford’s position next year. He won’t have the service of Batum nore Lin.

  • sws94

It’s not bad in the summer, when he’s off work. I’m not sure how it was where he is from in France.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

I think MDA is going to write Clifford a thank you note next season for coaching Lin.

  • sws94

    You’re crystal balling now, lol.

  • sws94

More FG. Try for 12 FGA. 4 FT minimum should be easy enough.

  • FSW

You trashed Lin for being weak and not demanding the ball a few weeks ago now you want him to be satisfied playing for a second tier coach coming off the bench with inconsistent roles, minutes and usage while he props up Kemba and others by siphoning defense and using his bb iq.
Your analysis seems to miss big factors affecting Lin and all players – politics and perceived biases, and short life of professional athletes.
If Lin finds a starting gig with a coach who will allow him to play to what’s natural to him he doesn’t need to develop and adapt to lesser coaching and schemes he needs to grab it.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

The Hornets have to offer Batum the max contract to keep him but I have the feeling that Batum is a little overrated.

  • Lin Win

Lin over helping is NOT designed in principle by Clifford. One very small example I saw recently is the last 2mins of the Toronto Raptor Game winning shot game. Lin has always over helped because of his play style. That was his problem in Houston as well but I can’t list every game he’s done that.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

What 76er is going to offer is not the Hornets can match. 76er will offer Lin a starting job. How many teams in NBA can beat that? No other team in NBA could offer Lin the coach and the starting role.

  • sws94

I don’t trash anyone, especially Lin.

  • sws94

In NY. Clyde used to say Lin has to stick to his man when he’d help leaving the 3 point shooter open that would make the shot. Of course, Lin was much rawer then but it is an old habit.

  • Lin Win

    Curry stats vs Lin 2014
GSW won 3 games out of 4
Curry Stats on games he won (Avg of 3 games)
    26.7ppg 11.3apg 48.1FG% 43.5 3FG% 17.3FGA 32.2mins

Not very fair since Lin wasn’t guarding Curry most of the time on those 3 games but on the game that Lakers won was when Kobe was out and Lin was guarding Curry

    22ppg 6apg 71.4FG% 40 3FG% 14FGA 30mins

I want you to take a look at the FG% because it was a whopping 71.4FG% when Lin was guarding Curry. Obviously the ppg is lowered since he took 3 less shots.

So no Lin cannot contain Curry. Curry has always beat Lin in duels from Houston all the way to now.

  • Spot

One game. And you all believe Jeremy will be the face of the franchise.

If Batum play and Jeremy will come off the bench again…

I remember you all that game against Toronto went to OT cause Kemba played hero ball. And so did Batum some games before ignoring a Lin wide open and shooting from long long distance.

I remember AJ Rafael tweeting “what the agenda this time”.

But don’t worry, he had 35 points and had touches (cause Al and Batum were out) and everything is good …

  • Spot

    Yes.

Okafor: size, lenght and huge hands. Give him a PG like Jeremy and he’ll be far better than Drummond.

Embiid: when he comes back he will be one of the best in the league. He got range too.

Stauskas: with Jeremy Stauskas will become one of the best 3 pointer in NBA.

They only lack Jeremy and a SF. That’s it.

I don’t like Noel though and if Sixers are so smart to offer him and Wroten for Jeremy and Kaminsky, who is a great passer and a really good 3 pointer perfect for MDA, they would be even better.

Plus they got good role players like Canaan, Convigton and even Marshall who was good with MDA, that fill the roster.

  • Spot

    Answer is above.

  • martan267

I disagree again. One game does not indicate that Lin can’t contain Curry. When Curry gets hot, he gets hot. Lin is not the only one where Curry has gone off and scored big. In any case,Lin’s objective is to win games. If the game the Lakers won was the game where Curry went off but GSW still lost, then that is what Lin would have liked. It means the rest of the team was contained through team defense and Lin’s help defense.

  • Spot

    No, not at all!!! LOL!

Billy was a famous fruit juyce in Italy.

  • sws94

    What is their record?

  • John Focker

Such an insightful throwback! The advent of such petty, small-minded GMs really brought down the average level of the league. Hopefully the tide turns after the dismissal of both Hinkie and eventually Morey.

  • Lin Win

It wasn’t 1 game. It was 4 games. You only get a maximum of 4 games in a season.

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201312130GSW.html

You could argue it was because Pat was guarding Curry but Lin wasn’t doing well against GSW’s Backup guard as well.

  • Acbc

    Lmao

  • Kwok Wai Lai

This won’t be complete without PFV’s report
