G7 MIN Timberwolves vs BKN Nets: “A Win Before 5-Game Road Trip?

COUNTDOWN CLOCK

3 Dec 19:30
Milwaukee Bucks @
Time to kickoff
1 days, 14 hours, 43 minutes

In the last home game before 5-game road trip, Brooklyn Nets (2-4) need to desperately get another win against the Minnesota Timberwolves (1-4). The good news is the Wolves also struggled with defense giving up 106.7ppg in 3 road games and lost all 3 road games.

  • Isaiah Whitehead is expected to start at PG and will match up with another rookie PG, Kris Dunn, who starts in place of Rubio who is still out with elbow injury.
  • Karl-Anthony Towns had 2 consecutive 30-pt games so it will be a good matchup with Brook Lopez and Justin Hamilton who will try to slow him down.
  • Jeremy Lin is still out with the left hamstring injury. Master Luo, Lin’s favorite massage therapist/acupuncturist, is reported to be coming from Taiwan to help Jeremy Lin’s recovery. The timetable for evaluation is roughly two weeks so it is possible that Lin will come back to play the Portland Blazers at home (Nov 20) after the 5-game road trip

Let’s hope and pray the Nets will continue their formula of success, play gritty basketball together as a team, and finish the game healthy!

Let’s go, JLin and the Nets!

    A Must Win tonight.

  • Martin Chong

    First

  • KHuang

This game would be more winnable with Ricky Rubio playing, but the Nets still can claim victory here.

  • pistolpete

I think Foye will play as pg backup tonight which will help so that SKil can concentrate more on being a SG.

Playing Whithead more than 25 minutes at this point in his development will probably lead to a loss.

  • Guest

Show the world that you are not the worst team in the NBA. Go Nets !!!!

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

I hope Kenny gives Whitehead a short leasch and not keep him in after a bunches of turnovers in a short period of time.

I know they’d like to develop him, but it should not be at the risk of losing the game.

  • pistolpete

I think Philly has that pretty much wrapped up. 😊

  • Rick James

a couple more losses increases the chance that brolo gets traded. The question then becomes WHO for? Alot of uncertainty surrounding this…but im going to bet that the trade wont be favorable for us. Best to squeeze in a couple of wins before lin comes back.

  • psalm234

    FYI
I just received an update that JLin will not be traveling to the team for the road trip.
So some of us won’t be going to the games and just watch from home.

Hopefully, with plenty of rest and Master Luo’s massage, JLin can recover quickly for the Nov 20 home game vs the Blazers

  • BobbyH

Wondering if he will show up in MSG.

  • psalm234

that might be possible since it won’t require travel by plane

  • aggressiveplayer

We need this win. Also, I don’t really seem to like KAT. He’s highly skilled, but he seems a bit too cocky.

  • Arsenium12 .

I’m sure it’s for the best, but it’s too bad nevertheless. He would have had several days in Los Angeles.

  • aggressiveplayer

Lol I bet the Knicks players are secretly unhappy with the way things are run at the moment. Just by the way Courtney Lee stated what the team’s focus should be on.

  • aggressiveplayer

My friend is a huge fan of the Blazers and I don’t want to lose to his team.

  • psalm234

    Good article by Dan Favale
How Screwed Are the Brooklyn Nets Without Jeremy Lin?
“Among every player in the league averaging at least five drives per game, no one is matching Lin’s field-goal percentage (58.8) and assist rate (17.6). Only four players, in addition to Lin, are clearing 50 percent shooting and an assist rate of 15 in those situations: Goran Dragic, James Harden, George Hill and John Wall.”

  • takeme2cruz

I’m Screwed too for watching the nets without lin.

  • Click Click

How can players be happy when you have a president of basketball ops that still thinks he’s a coach, undermining the actual coaches’ jobs? An greedy, vindictive, idiotic owner. A “superstar” who can’t help himself but to be anything other than an egotistical, jealous ballhog? A point guard who can only drive, has a history of injuries, and doesn’t like to pass?

Knicks will always be a dysfunctional organization as long as Dolan, Phil Jackson, and Melo are there.

  • blueCypher

They need to at least win tonight and the phoenix game….

  • emz

Whitehead from the article: “It’s been tough, but I got guys like Jeremy, Randy and Coach,” Whitehead said. “All those guys are really helping me out a lot. They’re trying to get me adjusted to the game, and I think I’ve improved every game.”

  • psalm234

no worries.. we are about to see the Nets with Lin’s mentoring and the 4-5 road-games without.
If they can steal 1 road win, that’ll be a success

  • CJSHYY
  • blueCypher

I think he will go to the knicks game

  • CJSHYY
  • psalm234

Hm, now the Nets said it’s possible that JLin might travel to the road game.
I think Lin is anxious to help the team but the Nets want him to recuperate

    @APOOCH
#Nets haven’t made a decision about whether Jeremy Lin will travel with the team. Used the word anxious to describe how Lin’s feeling.

Even though I’d like to see him as an ‘assistant coach’ on the court but it’s best for him to rest well at home IMO.

Nets off to a good start. Still can’t believe Brook is taking and making 3s lol.

  • psalm234

Brook Curry in the making 🙂

Good defense will carry the Nets for a win tonight.
    Wolves are very sloppy

  • heart

Where is Lin? Is he watching from the bench?

  • Click Click

Yup. He’s in a proper suit and tie this time. No more ripped jeans and sneakers. Still has his clipboard / folder and writing stuff down.

Man.. I know it’s NBA, but you just ignore and run back right after you land on someone’s head?

  • Singapore BB Fan

    Ref betting Min to win

  • Win

Lol. Very possible. Maybe they bet Nets under 20.5 wins. Haha.

  • aggressiveplayer

    Whitehead is learning fast

  • Vintage

Good! I hope the entire team is learning fast

  • Click Click

Almost every game refs are very biased against the Nets. It’s getting ridiculous.

  • Click Click

Brookie is on fire at the 3!!!

  • blueCypher

I’m so glad. The nets can win this one! This team will be no joke when Lin gets back. Whitehead can reliably be backup PG

  • CJSHYY
  • HVJoy

Just returned home, turned on YES channel and saw Whitehead stepped on his head. Goodness!

    Is he alright?

  • CJSHYY

Only up by 1 in half time… so worry we will loss this game.

  • CJSHYY

    Ya! He’s back to court.

  • kauaiblue

Remember when steve nash dressed so poorly that nba changed the dress code?

  • heart

Thank God he’s ok. Returned to court in 2Q.

  • HVJoy

Glad to know that. Thank Heavens!

He is another tough player for the team!

  • aggressiveplayer

Hmm Whitehead seems to be doing the same thing.. go to the corner, pass to Brook Lopez next to him. But he’s doing good today.

  • Win

It seem KA likes him a lot.

  • aggressiveplayer

    WHITEHEAD DOING WORK TODAY THOUGH

  • joy

He’s a good kid. I guess KA sees something in him that we haven’t seen yet.

  • aggressiveplayer

He’s doing well. They were right, he’s a quick learner.

  • CJSHYY
  • joy

Looking great!. Looks like a new suit.

  • joy
  • CJSHYY

So far so good we are still up in late 3Q…. please win this one.

  • HVJoy

88-84 end of 3Q! Go Nets!

  • Click Click

First time the Nets actually played a good 3rd quarter lol.

Booker is great… on both ends of the court. He should stop taking 3s though.

  • aggressiveplayer

Let’s get 3-4 and then 4-4 vs the Knicks!

  • Click Click

One game at a time. :p

  • joy

Harris is playing well tonight. He improves a lot.

  • Maknusia

    go go go NETS….defense defense!

  • aggressiveplayer

Heh yea we still gotta close this game out.

  • HVJoy

Wiggins and LaVine need to cool off.

  • james brown

is YES, a nets broadcasting arm or just in an NBA payroll???

i just wonder because the broadcast seems so fair and not leaning much on promoting Nets..just my take.

  • Click Click

They’re regarded as the best or 2nd best NBA broadcasting team. Very fair and balanced calls.

  • james brown

why is it tat i found skil fastbreak a bit slowbreak..LOL!

  • james brown

they also highlights opponents of the nets when nets lost the game…unlike other broadcast whom always promoting their team even when on a loss.

  • blueCypher

Please squeeze this win out, please please 🙂

  • Click Click

They highlight what needs to be highlighted.

  • HVJoy

The foul calls seem to favor the wolves. 🙁

  • blueCypher

    Yes !

  • aggressiveplayer

LOL KAT is so scared to foul

  • james brown

refs trying to rig the game subtly!

  • HVJoy

Control the wolves with the tough nets!

  • blueCypher

If they get this, they get 1 of 2 of the back to backs. Success already. Winning vs Knicks tomorrow is a bonus 🙂

  • HVJoy

    🙁

  • HVJoy

Wow. A timely 3 pointer by Bog!

  • blueCypher

This is going to be a special year 🙂

  • Click Click

LOL Bog cold all night, then drains a clutch 3 from far downtown…

  • blueCypher

    🙂

  • Epie

    OK Bog, I forgive you.

  • Elon Musk

    LOL LETS GO

  • joy

lol. we need one more from him.

  • blueCypher

Talent ON PAPER does not win you games

  • blueCypher

Very good! Win tomorrow and we’re gravy 🙂

  • Howan Cheung

wow this game is great on so many levels!

  • blueCypher

I just wish when Lin comes back , they are hovering around .500

  • aggressiveplayer

    Bojan so clutch this season

  • james brown

maturity is yet to be the nets motto. Lin’s injury is a blessing in disguise for all other players who needs to develop..the less expectation we have the better for the team to have good chemistry!

  • james brown

but they can only do it much without unmasking their scheme!

  • Click Click

Love this Nets team. Can’t wait until Lin and Vasquez comes back healthy. And LeVert… oh man.

  • Steppen03

    WOOHOO!!! The Nets WIN!!!
Finally, We’re able to close out! Happy for everyone on the floor!!

  • blueCypher

Exactly, a blessing in disguise to get Whitehead some confidence and experience. When Lin comes back I’d rather have him and Foye back up Lin instead of Vasquez.

  • blueCypher

Levert and Lin, less Vasquez 🙂

  • Maknusia

Good Win! Good rotations…everyone played under 30min! Go NETS

  • Click Click

If Vasquez is fully healthy, he can be very good.

  • Joe what do you know

This game is so much better than the election live…. wooohoooo!!

  • joy

Glad he didn’t lose confidence and the trust from KA.

  • blueCypher

I know, but Whitehead is younger and more athletic.

  • james brown

now, KA need to let go of vasquez and find a better alternative outhere. vasquez is so slow and seemed aged (injury caused him to be a little tentative too)

  • Joe what do you know

    Cold… blooded!

  • aggressiveplayer

I hope since Lopez under 30 minutes he can play the back to back vs the Knicks tomorrow. Definitely will need him.

  • Steppen03

Yes, but can he be is the serious question. Whitehead needs the experience over Vasquez.

  • blueCypher

Ya, injury has gotten to him . He should be 3rd / 4th string pg at this point.

  • aggressiveplayer

Agreed to this, but he doesn’t seem to be there yet sadly.

  • blueCypher

It is better to put Whitehead out there in back up minutes . He can continue getting experience.

  • james brown

a ballhog doesn’t lose it, confidence stays with him..good for now but he has to balance it later.

  • HVJoy

So much more entertaining and interesting!
I have 2 TV’s on at home, on on CNN, the other on YES. 🙂

  • Steppen03

Coach DEFINITELY have to play Brook tomorrow- we’re not flying anywhere…

  • blueCypher

Man, if Lin was healthy this is likely a 2game winning streak 🙂

  • blueCypher

    Sorry , 3game winning streak 🙂

  • guest

Great game by the Nets and Coach Atkinson. Good decision to play Whitehead more than Foye. Lopez is playing great and can shoot 3’s in Atkinson’s system. Can’t wait till Lin comes back to lead this team but happy they are starting to win without him. Skilpatrick is straight out balling! Great WIN!

  • blueCypher

They at least split the back to backs. It’s all good from here. Beat the knicks tomorrow !

  • james brown

LOPEZ was the winning factor on this game. without him and his defense, nets might be on the losing side today!

  • james brown

if Lopez will play, they have a chance.

  • blueCypher

Ya , although the odds are not on their side . Tired legs and on the road. I forgot that Nets are not playing Lopez on back to backs.

  • guest

Exactly. We do not want to trade an All-Star center. Brook is showing different skill sets. Now if he can start spinning to his right from the post to get away from double teams, he had lots of room towards the base line, but am very glad he passed out of the double team instead of forcing it.

  • james brown

this is the first time i enjoy teams winning even JLIN wasn’t playing..LOL!!!

  • Arsenium12 .

Those two get along well …..

  • joy

Whitehead shows his resilience tonight. Got knocked down twice but remains toughness. I guess that’s why KA likes him a lot.

  • james brown

but MSG just around the corner, so less fatigue on travel

  • blueCypher

    Love this team

  • Steppen03

Shooters shoot. Bog was clutch from the start (in Celtics game). I don’t mind him ball hogging a little – that will keep opp defense moderate.

  • Joe what do you know

I’m liking more and more of what I see from Harris. He’s not just a shooter, he knows what to do when he doesn’t have a clear look. And he’s very decisive in his execution. High ball IQ. Really wants to see his cooperation with Lin later this season.

  • guest

I concur. This is by far the best team to root for that Lin has been on.

  • blueCypher

Not so much travel , but fatigue from playing the night before. I assume , but who knows.

  • Click Click
  • james brown

precisely..not forcing and trusting in your teammates will also do the trick!

  • HVJoy

    You are not alone! 🙂

  • blueCypher

So the rest of the night we follow the election? lol 🙂

  • james brown

all players played with minute restrictions..only factor is Lopez recuperating on his previous injury

  • blueCypher

In that case, no “excuses” let’s win tomorrow then 🙂

  • james brown

they will win and win convincingly!

  • blueCypher

    Convincingly !? Haha, alright then

  • aggressiveplayer

I liked that he was aggressive with two 3 pointers. Didn’t make them, but as you said he was decisive.

  • joy
  • blueCypher

Who here has the Nets on the over 20.5 ?

  • guest

I know it’s way too early but Nets were .5 game out of 8th seed. Does this game bring us any closer? I’d like to see Nets get into the 8th seed early on in the season and maintain it. I think they may have a surprising year like the Hornets and potentially can be 7th or 6th seed.

  • joy

And he played good defense tonight too.

  • psalm234

Thanks for capturing how JLin was genuinely happy as Bojan iced the game with his FTs.
JLin is dangerous with his clipboard now lol

  • Steppen03

Like Ken Watanabe to Mr.Wayne “Impressive!”

  • james brown

we all knew whats going on “in and out” of nets team and we support their effort to truly make this team a competitive one, so our support needs to go to everybody and as a whole to the team!!!

    Keep on winning TEAM!!!!

  • Steppen03

From the start of the season, I predict them to 45-55 wins, Top 5 EC. It’s achievable with Linsanity Prime & Brooklyn Grit.

  • guest

NVM, I see we are still .5 game behind Boston!

  • aggressiveplayer

Definitely. I knew since summer there’s NO fudging way they’d only win 20 or 21

  • joy

The camera man must be Lin fan too. That shot on Lin was loooong! Lol

  • blueCypher

Indeed , but at this point I don’t know about top 5 . I think the Raptors will win the Atlantic , but you never know maybe the Nets can be there.

  • Steppen03

When spirits are high tired legs don’t matter!!! Take win from Knicks!

  • blueCypher

    It’s in “play” baby

  • Steppen03

I had Pacers ahead of C’s in Oct. but I don’t think that’s the case right now. Top: CAVS, Raptors, Celtics, Bulls, NETS, Hornets, Pistons, NYK.

  • blueCypher

I too thought the Pacers were top5. They are not looking good right now.
    Cavs, Raptors, Hawks, Hornets

  • Steppen03

The Nets can battle with any team in the East with BrookLin unleashed.

  • grover chang

Coach Atkinson vision of playing hard and unselfish makes this team enjoyable to watch even without Lin. To like watching a team without Lin playing is the highest compliment I could give. Impressive win by the coaches and players.

When Lin returns it may not be Lin and the nets as in earlier promos. It may just be the Nets. And that is okay. Go Nets.

  • blueCypher

    Yup

  • Arsenium12 .
  • blueCypher

I’m not sold on the Bulls. They were 3-0 in the beginning because they were shooting lights out. That is not sustainable long term since their top3 players are not shooters.

  • Steppen03

Oh yeah, forget Hawks. Hawks can grab #6 to #8 seed. It’s a close race for many teams including The Nets. Only Cavs, Raptors, Celtics are ahead. From #4 to #8 seed is anybody’s game

  • Rick James

I just want to confirm that trump is actually winning the election??

  • blueCypher

Cool. For me, I think the Nets will get the 6-8 spots.

  • blueCypher

    So far ya

  • grover chang

Please no politics. Everyone is in a good mood here today. Don’t ruin the good vibes.

  • Rick James

    my ooohh my…..

  • Rick James

unfortunately I think this is on everybodys mind at the moment even if I don’t spell it out.

I understand everyone’s mind is following the US Election results.

Whatever the outcome will be, let’s hope and pray that God will bring the nation together under humble leaders as JLin recently asked in his prayer requests. I am very concerned the county is very divided and there would be more backlash. Let’s hope there won’t be riots, violence that can make things worse in the days to come.

I would encourage fellow Lin fans to focus on bringing unity in this forum and even the social media. Thank you. We need all the prayers that we can get at this critical juncture.

    5. Please pray for the U.S. election that amongst all the negativity and accusations both between presidential candidates and amongst friends, God would bring our nation together under humble leaders in this upcoming election at all levels of government.

yes, full credit Sean Marks and Coach Atkinson for having the vision to assemble high-character players!

BKN is sooo unlike the typical NBA team.As they become successful, this year and especially over time it will be interesting to see how this togetherness and comraderie holds together. BKN is swimming against the tide of current NBA culture, joining SAS and maybe the Atlanta Hawks. I am glad to see it, glad to see team basketball w/o the soap opera of massive and imaginably massive egos butting head. It makes me wonder how many high character, good basketball players were driven out of the NBA like JLin almost was. I know there were probably a lot but we will never know. Credit must also be given to the owner, Prokhorov. Somebody on some post said something favorable about the team and that this favorable factor was because he was a foreigner and not an American. Prohorov had to sign off on Jin’s signing so that says a lot for him, much more than Mike Jordan’s perceived treatment of JLin in Charlotte and especially Morey eel’s treatment of Lin in Houston and rich kid Dolan in NYC. Speaking of Knicks isn’t that a toxic environment with the clashing egos of Phil Jackson, Dolan, Melo and maybe to come D. Rose? So good that JLin did not get a chance to sign with Knicks

  • joy
  • Ace Pagoda

Don’t forget Robin Lopez, a mobile big replacing the creaky Noah, Chicago was one of my destinations for JLin thinking he would work well with Hoiberg’s stated preference for an up tempo offense. With the shooter Chicago had it would have been a great match and Chicago would have been a great stage. But I think BKN is better because of KA and the chance to build a whole new structure w/o having to deal with established stars

NetsDaily can’t resist the jab to the Super Team Knicks (2-4) with worse record than the Nets (3-4)
Tomorrow will also be an important game. Hope the Nets have the legs.

That’s a great point. Phokorov had to sign off on this rebuilding project of “high-character” teams and hiring Sean Marks to give him freedom of his vision. I’m so glad for the promising early results because ownership will give more trust to the GM and coaching staff.

Hearing complimentary words from Lin’s teammates and the focus on team will only strengthen this team. Their confidence is increasing by each game and it’s certainly wonderful to watch 🙂 Assistant Coach Lin had a big part in mentoring his proteges. This team will be great to watch .. hopefully in the playoff :]

  • aggressiveplayer

The Linstructor! Great leader of the team.

  • aggressiveplayer

I love the Whitehead pickup man. An absolute steal for the 42nd pick.

  • joy

Even off the court, he didn’t forget his role – making his teammates better. 🙂

  • Steppen03

Off topic: If JLin is on the Mavs: Lin + Wes M + Dirk + Barnes + Bogut + Seth Curry + JJ Barea …

  • aggressiveplayer

Wow, just look at the minutes played by the Nets roster. No one over 28 minutes. Those few extra minutes saved should give us some strength for the back to back tomorrow against the Knicks. Truly detail oriented and amazing coaching & staff. Atkinson and Sean Marks are a godsend.

  • aggressiveplayer

Too bad he won’t be traveling with the team on the road =/

  • psalm234

I actually like the Nets roster more + the easier Eastern Conference path to the playoff.

Most of all, Kenny’s strong relationship with Lin + Sean Marks + Phokorov > Cuban lack of trust in JLin.
Cuban put all his eggs in a fading Deron Williams. I’d never understood that part.
He embraced Parsons who then left for the Grizzlies.

I’m glad that Lin was not in a Mavs uniform because the ownership just didn’t think much of him.
The Nets will reap the benefit for trusting JLin.

  • takeme2cruz

    WOW

  • Steppen03

Yes, I agree. I still prefer the Nets. I have no freaking idea what happened with Parsons and the Mavs – it went by so fast…! I didn’t followed him at all and next thing was he’s out.

  • aggressiveplayer

I honestly can’t think of a better situation for Lin. I think he fits incredibly well with the Nets and I personally think it’s the Nets team he’s on is a blessing to have such a great organization. I mean the Spurs could have been an option, but he probably wouldn’t be a starter logging minutes and showing what he can do.

  • SK

All those experts didn’t take into account the Jeremy Lin Factor. Even when he is not on the court he has a huge impact.

  • Steppen03

He should be able to for tomorrow- can literally walk there.

  • joy

They truly know what they’re doing. We’re in good hands.

  • Maknusia

Lin is smart and he had trusted them…we shall as well…just give them time…its part of growing pains that a new formed team/org has to go (grow) thru the cycle

  • joy

Cuban is more like a gambler to me. The only good team in Texas for Lin to go is Spurs. But God has even a better plan for Lin. 🙂

  • CJSHYY

Haha! Hope we can beat NYK.

  • joy

I wish Lin will go with the team tomorrow. Obviously his presence mean a lot!

  • CJSHYY

I think he will bc it’s in NYC.

  • joy

That’s true. Plus fans/media at MSG will be disappointed if he didn’t show up. Lol

  • DX

Did Lin get any treatment to speed recovery beside master Lo from Taiwan? It seems just wait and heal by itself.

Thanks for making this. Could I please place a request, could we have a Lin on bench collection video? LOL

  • hchao

No matter how many games they win/lose, Nets games are very fun to watch.

@2’36” Booker got a wrongly offense foul. Lin and his teammates stand up to protest the ref’s ridiculous call.

  • aggressiveplayer

Yea I expect it to be the only game he’ll go to.

Great to see them assert theselves (even against a less-performing team).

Looking at the highlights and comments of ESPN, you would think the Timberwolves won this game. This tells you a lot about ESPN’s reporting. The point is the Nets came out as the winner. Eat your heart out, ESPN.

I think almost everyone could agree that the Timberwolves has more talented players than the Nets. Their coach is a very decent one too. What’s their record? (1-5) The Nets has picked up 3 wins already. For those who trash the Nets, how would you like the Timberwolves to be your home team.

  • norah mackenzie

is that so ? that you are happy about trump winning?

MO? P&R? Post Up? From the number, Brook seemed got a lot touch.

I sometimes get caught up in things but the bigger picture is that the world is a very small place in a very very large universe. I try not to think of myself as the centre of the universe though I admit, sometimes it’s hard. I just have to believe things will work themselves out. Trump may not be the smartest but there are a lot of capable people surrounding him who I think will make the right choices that benefit the country and the world as a whole.

JLin wisely addressed the racism factor in the US Election and encourages unification, reconciliation and compassion by spreading love today. It’s not too early to start the JLin for 2040 US President campaign! He’ll be a mature 52 years old then

    @JLin7
This election is about wayyy more than race, but it further revealed how big a topic race is and how big of an issue racism still is, sadly. But long-term, real change requires unification, reconciliation and compassion..one small step at a time. Spread love today!

  • YellowClaw

    because he is racist lol

  • Ace Pagoda

Prokhorov had the “advantage” of doing things the establishment NBA culture way- he hired an establishment GM in Billy King who immediately gave away the future by signing a bunch of big name, over the hill players, overpaying them and the mortgaging the future on their old legs. He is smart to enough to see “well that doesn’t work” and rather than to keep trying a failed system went to people who could probably offer him a more logical alternative. The is what the Knicks are doing though I think Hornacek is trying his best he is outnumbered by numbskulls and big egos. If he does not employ the triangle more often as Phil wants I could see….Kurt again! It is early days, but I am impressed by KA and his staff. I don’t particularly like the motion offense, but again it is early days and it seems to have the desired effect of keeping everyone involved in the game. He also has the luxury of if things go south he has an All Star Center to go low post and one of the best PnR guards in the game. As an added bonus BKN still has cap space, which I am sure the owner appreciates after the King era.

  • psalm234

lol .. I better keep in shape to be a JLin campaign manager in 24 years 🙂

Can you imagine? The 1st Asian-American US President but more importantly, a humble leader who cares about people throughout his life .. Being the NBA Commissioner first would allow him to have a global support!

I guess the ankle surgery will take Vasquez the whole season to recover.
The Nets has to release him to get another help similar to how the Pelicans released Lance Stephenson.

At least Vasquez had more guaranteed money in his contract so it’s good for him

  • CJSHYY

They should not sign him in the first place… we need guard who can really play….

  • psalm234

The Nets was desperate to find backup PG behind Lin after Miami kept Tyler Johnson so they thought Vasquez is that high-character backup PG with veteran experience. If Vasquez can recover, he’d be a great backup PG.

    KHuang predicted this

  • Click Click

No he didn’t. He bashed Vasquez non-stop for his “broken down body,” that Vasquez will be forced to retire, but he never said Vasquez will have to get surgery to fix his ankle again.

KHuang also bashed the crap out of Booker, yet Booker is arguably the Nets’ best, most consistent, and most impactful player so far. He also bashed the crap out of coach Kenny.

  • Geoffrey

I thought he had a guaranteed contract?

  • Click Click

It is guaranteed. Nets are eating that contract.

    https://twitter.com/BobbyMarks42/status/796421043447533569

  • Grace

The most slanderous thing KH said about Vasquez was that he was not making an effort. Anyone who’s been to the open practice or the games knows that Vasquez was giving it his all on every play. You could tell by his facial expressions. He was clearly bothered and limited by his not yet fully healed ankle.

  • Click Click

Yup. It might even be because Vasquez was trying TOO HARD that he reinjured himself. I think he and the Nets rushed his comeback to the NBA. He shouldn’t have been playing so much this early.

  • Grace

Don’t quite get this tweet. The $4.3M they’re paying for GV is a “cap hit” they already took whether they waive him or not. If he won’t be ready to play anytime soon then of course it’s better to free his roster spot for someone else. The only additional cap hit Nets will incur is for Yogi’s low salary.

  • ProLin

Wow, I guess Skillpatrick/Whtehead is the future backup? Maybe making room for Lavert? Kind of surprising as I thought he was the designate backup PG. Personality issue maybe?

  • ProLin

yeah whitehead played pretty well last game, and Skillp is developing a nice touch at PG.

  • ProLin

I think a yuuuge shock will come to those who voted for him. The D was a NY liberal, good friend of the Clintons… the act can stop now.

  • Click Click

He means that Nets still have to pay for Vasquez and that his contract is a “hit” to the Nets cap, even though they’re waiving him.

  • Grace

That’s what I’m saying. If you have to pay him anyway but he can’t play, then why not waive him? But actually I think I understand now. GV’s salary was a full $5M. It seems that by waiving him, only $4.3M remains as part of the cap. So that gives the Nets even more incentive to waive him.

  • Yura

Can you explain what the consprirary therories are?Why did you vote for Trump? Just curious.

  • Spot

Naaa, he’ll be too busy in coaching the Nets 😀 #themanwiththeclipboard

  • Ace Pagoda

Probably worth the cost in order to improve the team. They made a mistake, move on. It was a lot cheaper than what Billy King did to the franchise. Peanuts compared to that.

Yeah, tough not to like this guy. Very unfortunate for him that it didn’t work out this year. Maybe if he can get a better surgeon and properly rehabs his ankle this time, Nets can take a look at him again this summer.

  • Cookiemole
  • Click Click

It’s not just about the money. Vasquez wanted this year to be the year he can prove that he can still play in the NBA and rehab not just his ankle, but also his career.

Instead, he’s going to be viewed as an injury-prone highly risky player who might not be able to contribute to an NBA team. I guarantee Vasquez would rather give up $5M to be healthy for at least 1 year.

  • Vincent

any status on when jlin will be back on court?

  • KHuang

I hope Vasquez can come back strong.

Nobody has been more critical of him than me, but his ankle must have been severely limiting him.

I agree that if Vasquez can come back, the Nets should strongly consider him.

  • KHuang

Click Click is right on all of those counts.

  • KHuang

    Correct.

    But Vasquez WAS NOT PRODUCING.

If he was in that much pain, he as a professional should have stayed off the court.

  • Click Click

    Thank you for manning up.

  • Ace Pagoda

I am sure it is not just about the money. but as you describe him “he’s going to be viewed as an injury-prone highly risky player who might not be able to contribute to an NBA team” that is exactly what he is. At least though, money is not something that he should have to worry about, as long as he didn’t blow it in comparison to the vast majority of people who may have had to stop working due to injury or illness. I did not mean to be dismissive but money is a big part of pro athletics nowadays and is part of their celebrity status and while something for us fans to observe and comment on I cannot help but relate it to the real world of the fan base. On that (my) level, losing your job is truly cutthroat.

  • KHuang

    I WON’T STOP BASHING.

I’m still bashing your boy Booker whenever his opponent routinely dumps 20+ points on him, and I consider Atkinson VERY FORTUNATE to have the NBA’s best assistan coach and player development specialist in Jeremy Lin.

I am OK with Booker starting for now because the talented Nets are good enough to cover up his poor performances, and I am OK with Atkinson as long as Linstructor is the one truly coaching the team!

  • KHuang

“Cutthroat” is HEALTHY for the NBA.

This is the NBA which is an ENTERTAINMENT business.

None of the entertainers that perform on a NBA court are doing real work like looking after people’s welfare or slaving away in menial but important jobs like working at Walmart.

I myself am a professional entertainer, and I regularly get bumped out by more talented or more acceptable “cutthroat” competitors. All I do is shrug my shoulders and KEEP GOING, as that’s what being a pro entertainer is all about!

  • KHuang

    Agree –

at this point, Vasquez can only hope that his ankle recovers.

Right now, he’s not physically capable of playing pro basketball for ANY league, even the smallest lowest paid
    minor leagues overseas.

Vasquez has to show pro scouts that his rehab works and that he can physically withstand the ongoing grind of pro basketball.

  • KHuang

    Yogi is READY.

  • HVJoy

Thank you for sharing. What a touching and incredible story it is! It took my mind off the election outcome for a while. 🙂

Foye had a difficult early childhood. At 2, his father died, at 5, his mother disappeared who was not found until 27 years later in a grave in Brooklyn for “Jane Doe”… Randy may have never “found” his mother had he not become a member of the Brooklyn Nets.

The part on his first tattoo brought tears to my eyes. It was a portrait of his absent mother on his chest. “She is beautiful and always will be, for as long as he is able to see his own reflection.”

  • Click Click

    *sigh*

  • KHuang

I’m very pleased that Yogi Ferrell has made the NBA.

I really like his game, as he is a battlehardened 4 year college senior who legitimately produced.

While he has to learn the NBA like all rookies do, at least Yogi doesn’t have to learn how to play basketball. He’s not like Isiah Whitehead who is taking baby steps in the NBA, although Whitehead is drastically improving due to Linstructor teaching him.

Yogi gives the Nets something that they haven’t had: a real burst of PG creative foot speed when Lin sits down. Yogi’s ability to penetrate the lane and shake past defenders will drastically cut down the lethargic bench production that arises from not having a PG that can crack a NBA defense off the dribble.

There’s the issue of Yogi’s lack of height on defense. I’m not worried about it because I think Yogi’s ability to force opponents to expend energy guarding him will offset his lack of size.

KEY OF THE GAME: The Nets would need to maintain their effective shooting %, especially the 3PT% on a difficult road game where buckets won’t fall in as easily as in the comfort of home arena.
