G7 CHA @MIN PostGame Thread

Jeremy Lin scored the highest pts with 19pts
He finished with 19pts/3ast/1reb in 27min

Coach Clifford finally trusted JLin’s hot hands to close the 4th quarter.
And he did not disappoint with tight defense against Kevin Martin who couldn’t get away from Jeremy Lin’s defense, made 3 TOs with losing ball out-of-bound and offensive fouls

Although JLin shot only 1-5, he made big midrange jumpshots when the Hornets couldn’t make shots.
Had he not been in the 4th quarter to carry the team, the Hornets would’ve lost this game

I love how the Wolves announcers screamed, “WOW .. Jeremy Lin has made big shots ALL NIGHT LONG!” as JLin made big shot with 3:57 left after the Wolves made 2 successive shots to close to 95-89

  • Phillycheese

    Great game.

  • JJ Hui

Lin makes the difference!!!! Coach can say whatever he wants!!!!

  • Phillycheese

Coach knows Lin played great. he wants to give some shine to the others.

  • joyce ward

My summation for team politics :

Coach Clifford trying to coexist with Patrick Ewing which often accounts for some Clifford’s weird substitutions

Batum trying to live up the hype that the Hornets have lavished on him, which he knows that he truly is not worthy of. Batum has a very limited skill set, with no upside.BTW, why do you think Portland got rid of him. Also he will test free agency if he does well in Charlotte .

Kemba.trying to get his before MJ realizes he overpaid him $48 million dollars too much for his limited skill set.

Big Al is just a big man to ward off scoring in the paint, which he doesn’t do very well.

Rest of the team, waiting for their big break.

  • Phillycheese

Players of the game – Lin, Lam and Marvin.

  • blubell

Yup because Jeremy is “crazy good” lol

  • your son’s voltaire

it’s powered by Super Saiyan energy

  • NONONO

Thank you Lin, Zeller, Batum, Lamb. and MNs 20(?) TOs.

  • Singapore BB Fan

…give credit to where credit is due…If Clifford is going to do the McHale stunt game after game…it will only pissed off those who are genuinely contributing…

  • blubell

The opposing team always respects Jeremy… why can’t his own team do the same. *sigh*

  • DX

    No Lin, no win!

  • John Focker

    Jealousy and team politics.

  • Phillycheese

Lin played with an edge tonight, nice to see. He saw that rook Pg try to crowd him. Got his foul and then proceeded to dominate.

  • Phillycheese

Love the cocky smirk in the and1.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Not fair. I have 18/4. It’s as close as it can get. JLin has 19/3.

  • Jeremy “All-Day-Long” Lin

  • joyce ward

I think Clifford goes to lin personally and thanks him and tells him that he played a great despite all the bs that goes on court. I think lin appreciates that.jmo

  • DX

Great game for Lin! He can easily add 10 more points at 4Q. Maybe he didn’t want to steal starters’s thunder. Just let Batum and Kemba ran the ball. Anyway, win was secured.

  • NONONO

Thank you Lin, Zeller, Batum, Lamb. and MNs 20(?) TOs. Only right thing Clifford did today is … NONE. It was Timberwolves’ good plays forced Clifford keep Lin in the game. Thank you Timberwolves!!!

  • MorlockO

if we win tomorrow, we will jump to 7th or 8th seed 🙂

  • GoodDayLA

if this was true, Lin would have been highly coveted by many teams this summer. He was not.

  • AtTheHive knows JLin protected the lead when Hornets went cold

  • kauaiblue

    Jimmy fallon skit? Lol

  • GoJLin!

Ya! What a nice win! Wolves have more Rebounds (48 vs 34), AST (25 vs 18), & 3 pointers fall in (9 vs 8), but they also have more TO (22 vs 16), and most important 🙂 Jlin draw more fouls (8) than any of them. So Hornets WIN! Go, JLin Go! Stay Healthy!

  • Michael

I just woke up and read that Lin had a big game. Must be a coincidence. Sad I missed the game but happy Lin’s team won and he did well.

  • GoodDayLA

Lin makes incredibly nice looking and tough mid range shots that are timely. It’s a natural skill he has

  • JLin Fan from Australia

I heard all these and thought I had Hornets announcers but then I thought immediately. Nop I was with Wolves. So so so surprised when I heard all those nice talks about JLin for a change.

  • John Focker

The Hornets offense went cold BECAUSE Kemba and Batum froze Lin out.

  • Singapore BB Fan

Is it 2-1 on the road now?

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    “we”, I like it.

  • John Focker

They respect Lin with Defense, not money.

  • GoodDayLA

Are you saying Patrick Ewing wants these stupid substitutions and CLifford is humoring him?

  • DX

Before was bad coaches. Now maybe 2M contract?

  • GoJLin!

Thanks Michael for your consideration! We miss you, but we have a WIN! So do it again tomorrow!

  • joyce ward

The Hornet fans seem to know what’s up. I notice they praise only two newcomers: lin and lamb.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Really hope you are right. I’m about to call Cliff out if he didn’t let JLin played much in 4th qtr with a close game.

  • your son’s voltaire

u can catch the full replays on nbahd.com

  • CJSHYY

    Who said that? Lin?

  • Joe what do you know

2-1 against WEST on the road.

  • DaBoss

Thanks for sleeping one for the team.

  • GoodDayLA

    hmm that’s true. good point.

  • GoodDayLA

PJ only got 8 minutes tonight. It’s incredible.

  • Chopz

I’m liking these guys more and more. Not just us in this forum paying attention.

  • John Focker

    Which forum are you reading?

  • GoodDayLA

Kemba has every reason to freeze Lin out. BAtum I’m not so sure why. Yet Batum does it most.

  • blubell

They’ve been very positive with Jeremy. Unfortunately, some of JLin fans have not.

  • DX

Yes, but I would like to say they played selfishly.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

LOLOLOLOL Will really appreciate it if you continue to sleep for the rest of the season. Then JLin will continue to have big games:-) Sorry can’t help to tease you. Yep JLin did have big game.

  • he got dizziness & went to the locker room, I think

  • GoodDayLA

they have low expectations of Lin. we do not.

  • blubell

Not just tomorrow but for all games 😛

  • joyce ward

Clifford has an associate coach with a little more authority with some say so in the lineups.

  • GoodDayLA

dizzy from losing starting job to Lamb.

  • Thank you for doing your part! LOL

  • LW

Hornets say they didn’t want him by not picking up his option but then still makes him starter. Weird move!

  • Chopz

I like to call it the harden effect, or the kobe effect.

  • They definitely see the game as it is .. No politics

  • Renmei

    Is there audio of this?

  • blubell

I’ll give you my fries if you sleep tomorrow 😛

  • He’s definitely clutch. MIN announcers were so impressed

  • blubell

    It was televised.

  • leeda harun

Thank you guys for all the updates. Good win indeed.

  • GoodDayLA

definitely weird. there is an internal struggle within the team. Even if they dont want Lin to shine, Lamb should have started.

But I guess Lamb was hurt to start the season so PJ it is.

I think soon Lamb will start at PG.

It could be though that HOrnets wants to keep Batum happy so stick in PJ there to keep Batum happy as low usage offense guy like MKG would be

  • JLin Fan from Australia

You can watch the game in archive that was posted below. Happened in 4th qtr.

  • blubell

    Who?

  • Joyce, what made you think Patrick Ewing had an influence in the lineup?
    Just curious

  • GoodDayLA

some of lin’s moves can be awkward. not those.

  • joyce ward

You know I am convinced these negative so called lin fans are nothing more than lin critics, which I have no use for because I can smell their game a mile away and I refused to be swept up into their soaperic drama.

  • John Focker

Lamb 3yr/21M will usurp Walker 4yr/48M as starting PG? Unlikely.

  • Maknusia

  • Maknusia

    Oh! did she meant PEwing?

  • Chopz

Ask Mr. Harden, I mean Mr. Batum.

  • Maknusia

    lol

  • zxcvb

Silas is a big Lin supporter…he was the key guy in getting Lin to CHA. He told Clifford to pursue Lin.

Maybe HE should be coaching and Clifford should be filling the Gatorade cooler.

  • Dan Cohen

    oh yeah….
    hahaah

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Nop. Want to see whether @psalm234:disqus is as impartial as he can be:-) Because he voted Hairsanity, he should call the game as only that:-) hehehehehehe

  • That’s so … harsh :]

    Just trounce them!

  • GoodDayLA

    I mean SG of course.

  • CJSHYY

I doubt Lin will be PG. Cliff just wants Lin to be SG. smh!

  • zxcvb

I can’t hate the Knicks. I can hate on Melo and Dolan, but Knicks fans and Lin’s old teammates I love.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Agreed!!!! Can’t wait to see how @psalm234:disqus is going to handle this:-) hehehehehe

  • james brown

dizzy for he himself doesn’t know why he’s a starter!

  • DX

Sorry, I am a little overreaction.:)

  • Rick Johnson

Lamb didn’t seem to be as effective with the starters.

  • Dan Cohen

well, sometimes lin HAVE TO MOVE to sorta demand the ball.
If I was playing I wouldn’t even pass to lin because he is standing there so passively and someone is 3 feet away from him. If I’m dribbling and figuring out what to do.. see you stand over there in the corner and I would be like wt-. That’s what kemba or batum was doing..and maybe thinking.
Lin should’ve moved a bit and demand the ball a bit. In fact, kemba was trying to give the ball to lin until he saw lin was not as open and was passive.

That I blame lin, EVEN if it was a horn play or whatever.

  • blubell

We will probably have a lot of winners tonight. Those who picked Hairsanity and those who came close number-wise. We all win! Yay!

  • DX

Yes, I only mean the team and PM.

  • KHuang

Lin Lamb backcourt doing exactly what I envisioned them doing 3 years ago.

  • DaBoss

Wolves announcers saying how Jeremy must’ve taken acting lessons while in LA. LOL.

Come on guys, not the face! lol.

  • your son’s voltaire

  • LOL ..

  • NONONO

It sounds logical. No wonder the play arrangements seem very odd. Thanks!

  • Chopz

Talk is cheap anyway, as long as he lets our boy finish games and play entire 4 quarters like tonight, that’s all the talk I want to hear and see.

  • your son’s voltaire

except Lamb is a defensive liability

  • Did anyone notice KMart didn’t shake hand with JLin after the game ended?
I think he was still incensed JLin shut him down and made him look silly out there LOL

  • that’s part of KHuang’s vision

  • CJSHYY

It’s OK since they are not that close anyway.

  • Dan Ang

Correction, opposing team’s couch respects Jeremy’s game. Opposing players always want to school him. Deron William, Dwayne Wade, Russell Westbrook to name a few.

  • your son’s voltaire

    oh haha gotcha

  • he’s goooood!

  • joyce ward

I think there is a big difference in associate coaches and assistant coaches. Associate coaches implies at an equal level . I think that some of Hornets bad decisions on players were because of people’s favoritism over players because of name and not skill set.I think about what lin said about Clifford when he called him ver straightforward and lin called clifford brilliant. Lin has said that about only one other coach and that is D’tanoi

  • Dan Cohen

lin took his job away and got him traded before harden came in to take lin spot. so yeah, I can see why.

  • Dan Cohen

    oh cr-p..wonder howlinawillplayawithb2b games.

  • your son’s voltaire

    Khuang is never wrong!

  • KHuang

Actually, the way I see it is that Lin haters have such an IMPOSSIBLY HIGH STANDARD for Lin that not even MVP level players could reach that standard if thrust into Lin’s situation.

  • blubell
  • joyce ward

Exactly. Ewing is from that 80’s mindset just like MJ.

  • Dan Ang

Good idea for a sign when attending games.

  • ok, it’s possible Hairston was preferred by some ast. coaches.
Let’s continue to see what happens next

  • blubell

  • NONONO

PE is good friend of MJ, Clifford is on contract year. I always feel that Clifford would put Lin in for more mins if Hornets is trouble such as two ALT games, Miami, Bulls, Spurs (the only game Lin seems got lost) and today, But he would keep Lin out if Hornets is safe.

  • blubell
  • joyce ward

Yep. me too. I just don’t think Clifford is this clueless.

  • the problem is Hornets coach thinks he’s a playmaker
It’s good that tonight coach didn’t close with him due to defensive liability

  • Singapore BB Fan

flattery is cheap. but giving credit to your employees when they have done well will boost their confidence. how do you feel when someone comes over to you and pat you on your back and says that your work is appreciated, well done!…that surely will brighten up your day.
JLin is not a robot but a human with emotions too!

I only hate Rox…EVERYTHING! Knicks fans and Lakers fans are a lot nicer.

  • joyce ward

You are always on point with your game analysis. I also said that I thought there was a lot of push and pull going on with Clifford and Ewing behind the scene because of different agendas.

  • Michael

I’m a numbers guy. Pick numbers.

  • kauaiblue

    Lethal combo

  • blubell

Yes, talk to your bed about any available discounts.

  • Chopz

you’re right. we’ll take both they playing time and the compliments.

  • Rick Johnson

On the play at 0:42, shouldn’t Hawes or some other big have rolled into the paint too? Lin penetrating all by himself, had nobody to drop it off to if got trapped being guarded by 3 defenders. Hawes was pretty open for the 3 as MIN probably intentionally leaving Hawes open as he was only 1-6 tonight.

  • CJSHYY

Haha! In fact, I think more from Harden than LA.

  • joyce ward

Because Lamb just signed a $21 million dollar extension. Strangers not getting him the ball to do what he does best is shoot.

  • DaBoss

You may be right! 🙂 At least he got something out of being on that miserable team!

  • KHuang

He’ll play fine, as he typically does.

  • Hans

Finally had some time to watch the game. Although I completely believe Jeremy deserves to be a starter, for now he really should be playing with the 2nd unit, at least he would have control of the ball. On the downside though, he’d be playing with less-skillful players such as Hawes, and that means missing open shots, and worse, chaotic, unorganized basketball. No wonder Jeremy had to take so many fadeaways or tough shots. I know it takes time for a new team to mesh, but Clifford has gotta make a better effort to play more organized basketball. I really miss having smart big man such as Tyson/Dwight/Davis. Zeller was never ready to catch a lob pass from Lin, not to mention Hawes. If both Lamb and Lin are going to play together, they should be utilized to complement each other, instead of them going one on one on their own. As for playing with the first unit, Kemba was NEVER a pass-first PG, since college, so guys please just calm down. He’s not freezing out Jeremy, he’s just playing Kemba ball. I’ve also watched Batum since his rookie year, and he’s not a point forward NOR a shooting guard. He’s a SF with good passing skills. It’s one thing to be able to handle the ball occasionally, it’s another thing to handle the ball while the defense loads up on you. (i.e. Chandler Parsons). The coaching staffs still have ways to go to maximize the potential out of these talented players. I see them as a 500 team minimum. Anything below that is an underachievement, and the coach would deserve to be fired.

To put all political and marketing things aside, I would start Lin/Kemba/Batum/Williams/Jefferson, have Lin be the PG on offense, and Kemba guard the opposing one on D. This line up is small but would be deadly on the open court. Jeremy and Kemba will take turn leading the 2nd unit, while Lamb can fire all he wants with the bench. It really is too much to ask for Zeller to physically combat against the starting PF/C of the NBA, but he will be ok with the bench. Hawes is a good role player, but shouldn’t be the 1-2 punch I don’t care if that’s against the 2nd unit. If Jeremy is orchestrating the offense with the 2nd unit then let him run with Lamb like Curry and Thompson. With flexible PT distribution, the firepower for the team could be evenly maintained. Its sad to see the starters getting killed while the bench have to play catch up every game.

  • joyce ward

Yep we do, and that is why I give them no audience to respond to my posts. I ignore them and keep it moving.

  • DaBoss

Keep looking at the box score and clapping – bench outdid themselves tonight!

  • sport

“Typically” Lin does poorly on back to backs but hopefully his anger will carry over to next game! No more Mr. Nice Guy he needs to get his shots! No excuse why he shouldn’t start or get 32 minutes when starters are playing like crap! Pretty sure Lin isn’t buying to to the coach and Hornet’s BS anymore. Gotta get his stats for a big contract next year!

  • blubell

I don’t remember NBA ever doing this when he was with HOU and LAL. Interesting…

  • KHuang

Kevin Martin is one of the few players in the NBA that HATES LIN.

When they were Rockets, Martin called Lin an “international player” and refused to pass Lin the ball.

Then Lin repeatedly shut down Martin in Rockets practices and in NBA games.

  • steven ko

if I’m Jeremy Lamb, I’m pissed. I hit 8 of 10 shots and only got 22+ minutes? What’s up with that?

  • sport

The “head flop” is Harden’s specialty after all lol.

  • CJSHYY

    Haha! Indeed.

  • KHuang

Yes Lamb is – for now.

But Lamb is bad defensively because he’s inexperienced, not because he lacks talent or drive.

Lamb is still learning the NBA.

As he gets more experienced, his defense will get better and better.

Kevin Martin is probably the best scoring shooting guard in the entire NBA. Martin has scored wildly for the Wolves the last two seasons. He is a tough matchup for anybody to cover, let alone an inexperienced guy like Lamb who’s basically a rookie.

Lin shut down Martin – but Lin’s THE BEST defensive guard in the NBA and has shut down Martin for YEARS.

  • sport

Lin has yet to pay back Rockets with a 30-40 pt game!

  • DaBoss

Go ask the folks on Jeremy Lamb portal.

  • sport

Kill Lakers only if Kobe’s playing.

  • kauaiblue

    Lol

  • CJSHYY

Well, ask coach… they should put him up not Kemba. But that will not happen of course.

  • sws94

I’m encouraged by Zeller’s play tonight. Lin has a sometimes roller in Zeller and cutter. I’m not encouraged by Lin and Batum on the floor together. Batum should play 2nd fiddle to Lin’s facilitating, not the other way round.

  • Chopz

That’s what I’m saying too. Ride the hot hand: Lamb and Lin.

  • KHuang

    I don’t trust Patrick Ewing’s 80s judgment.

  • Rick Johnson

You can see from the game flows how JLin and the the 2nd unit came in and turned the game around. The two big upswings for CHA was when Lin came in. You can also see how well defended Martin was when Lin was on him in the 4th quarter. Who was covering Martin in the beginning of the first quarter?

    http://popcornmachine.net/gf?date=20151110&game=CHAMIN

  • CJSHYY

I think this is from team to NBA…?

  • grover chang

Did Batum even pass it to Jeremy in the game. I don’t think so.

  • KHuang

If you asked the Charlotte Hornets starters “Who’s covering Kevin Martin”, you would not get a solid answer!

  • Chopz

    Money statement. Exactly.

  • sws94

I don’t remember him doing so.

  • grover chang

He should be. Lamb has been awesome.

  • KHuang

    Zeller CAME TO PLAY.

He’s still learning how to be a professional every game, but it’s looking really good.

  • CJSHYY

    I don’t like Batum w Lin either.

  • sws94

No excuse for him to sit the entire 4Q. The only explanation is that there is B2B and will play big minutes tomorrow.

  • KHuang

    Yes, he deserved more minutes.

Clifford should have mercifully benched Walker and handed those minutes to Lamb.

  • Rick Johnson

As long as Zeller plays with Lin he looks great. As long as Lamb plays with Lin he plays great too. Whole team would play great if they let Lin lead it as a matter of fact.

  • CJSHYY

Haha! That’s exactly what I thought… LOL! Kemba was no good for this game.

  • sws94

Walker didn’t play well. He was out of sync. I’m surprised he only had 3 TOs. Seems like he had 5.

  • Chopz

yup. he sure had no problem benching big al.

  • steven ko

big Al doesn’t have a Jordan shoe contract…

  • sws94

Al plays well with Lin. He plays well with both Kemba and Lin. And Al fed the ball back to Lin on a drive.

  • KHuang

Hawes is the only SCRUB in the entire 2nd unit.

It’s not like the starters that have 3 and often 4 guys playing terrible selfish bad losing basketball like in the pitiful 1st quarter.

  • Rick Johnson

Yes that’s the official NBA twitter.

  • sport

Out of all these games Batum only passed to Lin ONCE! That says alot about Batum.

Lin, Lamb lead Hornets over short-handed Wolves, 104-95

    By JON KRAWCZYNSKI
    Posted Nov 10 2015 10:37PM

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Jeremy Lin scored 19 points and Jeremy Lamb added 18 to lead the Charlotte Hornets to a 104-95 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night.

Nicolas Batum added 17 points for the Hornets, who overcame a combined 7-for-21 shooting from Al Jefferson and Kemba Walker to beat the depleted Timberwolves.

Karl-Anthony Towns had 19 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks for the Timberwolves, who played without starters Andrew Wiggins (sore right knee), Ricky Rubio (sore left knee) and Kevin Garnett (rest). Zach LaVine added 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

The Hornets were outrebounded 48-34, but outscored Minnesota’s bench 57-23. Cody Zeller added 14 points and six rebounds.

Lamb hit eight of his 10 shots, including 2 for 3 from 3-point land, and Lin hit a tough fallaway jumper over Towns’ outstretched hand with under four minutes to play that helped turn back the Wolves.

The Timberwolves turned the ball over 22 times, which led to 22 Hornets points. LaVine turned it over eight times.

One night after a stirring victory at Eastern Conference power Atlanta gave the surprising Timberwolves a 4-2 record in which every victory has come on the road, they jumped out to an 11-point lead in the first quarter thanks to some inspired play from Towns and Adreian Payne, who started for Garnett.

The Hornets fought back by getting to the free throw line relentlessly, going 14 of 17 on freebies in the first quarter alone. Lamb and Line got going in the second quarter against Minnesota’s porous backcourt defense from the reserve guards.

Lamb scored 12 in the second quarter and Lin got into the paint at ease against a defense that had been in the top five in the league through the first six games. But with defensive stalwarts Garnett, Wiggins and Rubio all out, the Wolves were powerless to stop the fresher Hornets.

A 9-0 run bridging the end of the third and start of the fourth quarters pushed Charlotte’s lead to 11, and the Hornets (3-4) held on.

Lin played terrific but still very concerned about his perimeter shooting after a scorching preseason. What is going on there?

  • kauaiblue

Well, no one cares about kevin whats his name

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Not true. JLin did fine in b2b games.

  • GoJLin!

At least he play through the entire 2ndQ, Lin also play well during the same time but still have to sit 🙁

  • grover chang

Lin has the best court vision – he is the pg. Lamb the best cutter, catch and shoot – he is the sg. Williams good all around player- he is the SF. Hansbrough the most powerful – he is the Power forward. Zeller the remaining athletic big – he is the center. Outside politics/market my best 5 are Lin/Lamb/Williams/Hansbrough/Zeller.

  • JoeTeam

They come here to get juiced up.

  • KHuang

    That didn’t happen last season.

See in Houston, Lin’s TEAMMATES were poorly conditioned and so they didn’t run plays effectively on back to backs.

Lin had a largely veteran team in LA, so he did fine on back to backs. More than once, I predicted Lin would do fine on those and everybody but me was stunned when he did well.

Lin’s bench of young veterans outside the hopeless Spencer Hawes will be ready to play next game, so Lin will likely do a standard performance.

  • sport

His 3s still needs alot of work and whatever happened to that floater?

  • KHuang

Especially after Lin BEAT HIM DOWN.

  • CJSHYY

That’s true but Cliff still don’t like Lin to be PG. He still stubborn to use Lin as SG more than PG. smh!

  • steven ko

Just gonna have to wait until Kemba and Batum gets injured for Lin to have a real shot. Story of Lin’s NBA career so far…

  • kauaiblue

Why doesnt clifford use jlin as a pg??

  • steven ko

but he’s was stroking his jumper so well in preseason. i don’t see the same confidence in the regular season for some reason…

  • KHuang

Lin has to simply not fall too in love with the 3 pointer.

  • sport

He did but only with 2nd unit and not when Walker is on the floor.

  • blubell
  • sws94

Yes, he should nail the mid-range shots. His big shots tonight were mid-range shots.

  • KHuang

Not Hawes, not Jefferson, not Walker.

Those guys don’t have enough game for Lin to carry them.

  • blubell
  • sws94

Or Roberts. Although sometimes Lin is PG when Roberts is on the floor. Maybe 30 percent. 0 percent when Kemba is on the floor. 15 maybe when Batum is on the floor.

  • sport

Yes Lin was hitting almost everything preseason and then selfish teammates took over and iced him out again.

  • CJSHYY

I think Cliff just like Mc don’t like free style of Lin’s game. That’s too dangerous to become TO. So they just want Lin to be SG.

  • your son’s voltaire

    face meet elbow
    groin meet knee

  • KHuang

Honestly, the reason Lamb sat is probably because Clifford didn’t want to anger Batum and Walker.

  • blubell
  • sws94

He wants him as a scorer. As a PG Lin doesn’t shoot so much. Not sure why he doesn’t play PG when playing with Batum.

  • Hans

one downside with Zeller is his ability to absorb contact and get physical with the opposing starting bigs. It’s just sad to see him jumping up and getting bumped out of bounds all the time. He plays REALLY HARD and I respect that. But then he also doesn’t know how to roll in a PnR offense, nor can he be the receiving end of a Lin’s lob. Even Jared Jefferies back from the Knicks days could do that. The bright side is, Zeller is still young, hopefully he will be able to learn that.

CrazyT meanwhile, is a bulldog on the boards and that’s it. I wonder whatever happened to his skill to make mid-range jumpshots. He could be a Horace Grant type of PF, pulling down boards and hit mid range J. At the moment he’s JYD.

  • steven ko

    more team politics?

  • CJSHYY

I know but I think the content it’s from Hornets to NBA…?

  • kauaiblue

Very odd… he can score and distribute as we saw in nyc…

  • grover chang

To me its weird seeing Ewing on the sideline and working for MJ. Those guys battles are legendary and now one works for the other?

  • steven ko

Lin should not play defense with his face and groin in the near future…unless he’s meeting a hot date from one of the Honeybees?

  • bolero

nope. I’m not gonna touch that hair. lol

  • CJSHYY

Haha! I really like Lin’s new hair style now. LOL!

  • sport

Not getting my hands sticky from all that hair gel, forget it! Lol

  • CJSHYY
  • wandertheglobe

Next 10 games, the Hornets could go 7-3, with loses @Chicago, @Knicks and Cleveland. All others are winnable.

  • grover chang

I’ve come around on Lamb. He did not look good initially. I was thinking Khuang was wrong about him. But Lamb looks really good. Of course its better when you have Lin looking for you but I think Lamb could still look good with the starters.

  • Hans

The starters had an atrocious start and wanted to make up for it, and made it worse. I don’t think Kemba could change much because that’s how he’s been playing all his life. Batum should be able to adjust his game a bit better to fit in. But then again, with Kemba hoggind and Al Jeff being a blackhole (not blaming him), there isn’t that much Batum could do either. Quite a difficult situation for him as well.

  • Steppen03

Great win for the Hornets & JL7 got his Points. =). Let’s get on a mini winning streak now, Hornets!

  • CJSHYY

They can beat Bulls again. Only Cleveland not sure. Hope beat NYK tomorrow too. But NYK seem to play well now. smh!

  • DX

Why lose to Chicago and Knicks? These 2 are winnable.

  • your son’s voltaire

Lin can guard all 5 Honeybees on the floor with that kind of defense LOL

  • CJSHYY

Bc Cliff wants O from Batum… weird.

  • wandertheglobe

At Chicago and NY are hard places to win. Taking the split this early in the season is good enough. Can’t expect this Hornets team to win every game for the next 10 games….

  • james brown

    I don’t CARE!!!LOL!

  • CJSHYY

    Roberts didn’t play that much…

  • Rick Johnson

Hmmm, not sure who decides what to feature in the NBA tweet. Article is written by an AP writer in Minneapolis. Jon Krawczynski

  • Steppen03

Knicks are on and off. I don’t think they are really that good down the stretch but doesn’t matter if they’re good or not – the Hornets Can Hang with Any team on any given night – just need more 3’s falling and play very good D. Even the Cavs game is winnable. The Only team that Hornets have No chance is against GS Warriors.

  • DX

Maybe not 10 wins, but 8 is possible.

  • Sunny Sullenberger

It could be a diff. story if Wiggins, Rubio and Garnett were playing tonight.

  • Dan Cohen

better to use him as sg..he shoots more that way.

  • Rick Johnson

Some girls sound like New Years Day party horns after each of his baskets.

  • Alain Gervais
  • Steppen03

But the guys in were good too. It’s the same argument about the Finals: GS win because No Love & Irving OR Hou lose because No Lawson & PBev, on and on…

  • DX

Game is hard to predict. Like Wolves won Hawks, Hornets lose Hawks, but Hornets won Wolves. Still remember Lakers beat Spurs, Rockets and Warriors last season.

  • wandertheglobe

Wiggins and Rubio may be, Garnett is a shell of his former self, 21 years in the league, he has been in the league longer than most of his teammates time on earth.

  • occupatio

    WITH TWO HANDS!!!!

  • NONONO

I think Lin never lost to Knicks when he was Rox or LAL which were not very good teams and he played well.

  • james brown

    How?

  • rookie75094

It still will be the same story if Jlin start the game tonight

  • JJ Hui

I dont like Batum either, he always passed the ball the other direction from Lin EVERY time! What is wrong with BATUM?

  • DaBoss

    Shhhh! Don’t jinx it!

  • Rick Johnson

Lin’s playing so few minutes B2B shouldn’t bother him as much. Played few minutes with Lakers compared with Houston too.

  • Chopz

What I noticed about tonight’s game was how easily Lin got his 19 points while playing within the offense. Of course the difficulty of some of the shots were impressive, but imagine if he was the go to option, sky’s the limit.

  • Dan Ang

    Lol. Good observation.

  • DaBoss

  • blubell
  • JJ Hui

No! Batum always looked the other direction and passed the ball into traffic n TO instead of wide open Lin! I dont like Batum anymore!

  • zxcvb

Clifford is such a clod. He’s using tonight as an example of why he’s keeping the lineups the same. And he said whoever closes is completely unknown and just depends on “who’s hot.” What horrible coaching. He’s already contradicting himself.

He said repeatedly before the season that guys need to know how much they’re playing and who with. Now he’s saying he has no clue and no faith in anyone. Even Steph Curry and Durant have off-games/halves.

On the bright side, at least Lin gets to play his game when he’s in there. Well, unless Batum is closing.

  • Rick Johnson

    Oh good, he noticed.

  • your son’s voltaire

    easy solution, take Batum out

  • Alain Gervais

Lamb not much of a defensive player

  • CaliUSMC

Damn I missed the game.. Glad he did well. Any highlights?

  • GoJLin!

At regular season, since opposing team’s couch respects Jeremy’s game. So they all have game plan against him plus Opposing players also want to school him to show up.

  • Guest

I’m as cool as a jalapeño, but if u keep bashing the coach I’m going to ban u for life!!!

  • Awesome. Good recognition of JLin’s shutdown defender ability.
More things like this will be good for his image.

Something that McHale & BScott have never done. Remember Tony Parker being shutdown? Not a peep from McHale!
    Grr

  • grover chang

Knicks are 4-4. No win is automatic with the Hornets. The team is still figuring things out. If they could beat the Knicks that is a solid win.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Yes 1 at the top. Another one down on the thread.

  • CJSHYY

I don’t like him. He’s in panic mood now bc he’s worry about be fired. I think MJ will keep him for this season but will not have him back again no matter they will make it to playoff or not.

  • Acbc

It’s pretty sad when Hornets fans are easier on Lin than Lin fans.

  • james brown

    you of LITTLE FAITH!

  • zxcvb

I agree. Hornets’ lineups are such a mess and Knicks could steal this one.

  • chronoshifter

if u check out coach clifford’s post game interview u can tell he really recognized jeremy’s contributions to the game.

  • Alain Gervais

Im a bit worried Cliff said he wanted to go to Lamb assuming Lin would get roasted by Martin. It was Lamb and ? Hairston who Let Martin score 17 in the first haif.

  • CJSHYY

So if Lin didn’t guard KM well he wouldn’t play the whole 4Q?

  • zxcvb

…until he misses a few shots. He also said that he doesn’t ever want to start Lin or let him close if he’s not “hot.” The man can draw up good plays but his overall philosophy is stuck in the ’90s.

Look at the ball movement possible with 3-4 ballhandlers on the floor! Kemba and Batum is not enough.
    https://streamable.com/6fn8

  • CJSHYY

BTW, did coach say (for a way to reinsert Lamb) ?

  • David Kim

    Batum?

  • Alain Gervais

    Him as well.

  • james brown

early on the season, Batum defer to Lin whenever they were playing..but lately, He seems to forget JLIN is also his teammates???

  • GoJLin!

Tomorrow vs NY is a home game, even for the Back to Back, since Lin only play 26 min tonight, it will be okay for him. Go JLIN!

  • wandertheglobe

Not literally, but in the context if what he was trying to say. Just watch the video on hornets.com

  • CJSHYY

Cliff said that…he won’t start Lin or let him close if he’s not “hot.”?

  • zxcvb
  • Dan Cohen

    so from that reasoning,
if they are 0-8, it’s definitely an automatic loss for hornis due to law of large numbers and hornis backtoback.
if they are 8-0, it’s an automatic win for horns as law of large number will make it 8-1

  • Dan Cohen

wonder will it be sexual harrassment if the coach is a male and say that about a player in WNBA

  • blubell

Dawkins’ account was suspended again so above is all we’ve got so far.

“It’s not who you play, it’s how you play” – Steve Clifford

  • CJSHYY

Haha! I really don’t like him. He sounds more & more like Mc’s in his contract year.

  • CJSHYY

I don’t want to see Cliff. LOL!

  • sws94

I didn’t hear Cliff say that.

  • CaliUSMC

    :(. Thanks tho

  • Lam

Not good. Means Lin minutes will be around 20 minutes most of the time. But not surprising since he’s a one year rental.

  • sws94

Where does he say that? I don’t see anything like that from Cliff anywhere.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Hornets’ Steve Clifford likes the bench just the way it is
    http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nba/charlotte-hornets/article44216637.html

If you’re a Charlotte Hornets fan shouting for the team to start one of the two Jeremys – Lamb or Lin – you might be wasting your breath.

Coach Steve Clifford thinks the bench this team has assembled is a distinct strength both now and for the future. He isn’t particularly receptive to messing with that unless the unforeseen, like a major injury, forces his hand.

The Hornets reserves outscored their Minnesota Timberwolves counterparts 55-23 Tuesday as the Hornets won on the road 104-95.

Lamb, the sweet-shooting guard-forward who recently signed a 3-year, $21 million contract extension, scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half. Lin played good defense on Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin in the second half, drawing two offensive fouls. Lin finished with 19 points, shooting 6-of-11 from the field and making six of eight free throws.

If you see that as cause to shake up the starting lineup, Clifford sees at as reinforcing the status quo. He wants a strong bench and believes starting his top five offensive players would only serve to clutter,
with so many players needing the ball at once.

This team is 3-4, having incorporated seven new players into the roster. Of those, Lamb and Lin made major contributions Tuesday. More subtly reserve center Spencer Hawes played nine minutes of the fourth quarter as starter Al Jefferson sat out all 12 minutes.

Asked why he’s convinced this mix of starters and reserves is right, Clifford harkened back to the
team two seasons ago that slogged into the playoffs, playing Kemba Walker and Jefferson marathon minutes. Jefferson injured his plantar fascia in Game 1 of the playoff series against the Miami Heat, leading to the then-Bobcats being swept 4-0.

“Hopefully (the starters) can play less minutes,” Clifford said of bench strength. “You think about
two years ago literally Kemba and Al were playing 40 to 42 minutes a night. That catches up to you. In many ways I believe that’s why Al got injured in the playoffs.”

Clifford is coaching this team by feel and not holding particular obligation to when he must use certain
players. He sat Jefferson down the stretch for the second time this season. While Lamb played very well in the first half, Clifford was convinced the defense and ballhandling Lin provided gave the Hornets
their best chance in this particular matchup.

“I kept looking in the fourth quarter (for a way to reinsert Lamb) but Jeremy Lin was really the one who did the best job on Kevin Martin,” Clifford said.

“That (second five) group was playing well and Cody (Zeller) was giving them trouble running the floor and rolling. It was about that group playing well.”

Clifford figures it could be this way all season, with mix-and-match groups finishing games based on matchups and who is hot at the time.

“A lot of times you can have two true groups so (the same) guys don’t have to play well every night. You have more guys to score,” Clifford said.

“For us to be really good we’ve got to have good bench play. Our starters are really good but our bench play is going to have to be what it was tonight.”

  • Alain Gervais

After this year I’m not sure i want Lin to return. System seem right usage being 26 the highest since Linsanity( probably will go up after today) but fight for minutes with Lamb is just like not again. some scrub pop their head and see Lin as an opportunity. Lamb without Lin is not nearly the same player. Anyways the more Cliff talk the less i like the situation. If lin can score well hopefully get more playoff experience. Lin hopefully will move on. Charlottes off season is interesting. Lin,datum, AL, and Cliff all could leave. This season will be a tease with Lin playing his way but far too little minutes

  • Phillycheese

That’s not how I read it. Lin was plying too good to pull him was how I took it.

  • CJSHYY

He wants players to get the win for his job & just sounds like Mc… you have to earn your playing time. smh!

  • Rick Johnson

LOL. So does that get counted as a turnover or a missed shot?

    ‏@BleacherReport
What are the Lakers even doing??
    https://twitter.com/BleacherReport/status/664256732147773441

  • Alain Gervais

    What??

  • MoominFloren

It means Lin is not a necessary closer anymore?!?

  • sws94

He said Lin was playing the best defense on K Martin and also that he’s another facilitator out there. It’s good Lin was in there for defense as well as his offense.

  • Acbc

I don’t mind him being SG for now at least to take the lead and teach the other guys how to play off ball. Coach Lin will get this team moving properly while leading them with a scoring role.

  • wandertheglobe

Refreshing to hear Lin and defense in same sentence for once. – “Lin played good defense on Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin in the second half, drawing two offensive fouls.” – “Clifford was convinced the defense and ballhandling Lin provided gave the Hornets their best chance in this particular matchup.”

  • sws94

Not at all. Lamb didn’t play the whole 2Q and Lin played great defense on K Martin.

  • Rick Johnson

Huertes “shot” that wasn’t anywhere near the basket and went right to a Heat player.

  • CJSHYY

I don’t think Lin wants to stay bc there’re teams will be interested in him next summer why stays here? They maybe promise him something but that will change within 1 day… smh!

  • Alain Gervais

That goes with any team. When you sign short contracts teams don’t value you as much. If he stays or goes i want a long term contract. He needs a home

  • sws94

But they were always friends. Ewing and MJ got along well off of the court.

  • sws94

Lamb is better with Lin. He’s good but better with Lin than with Kemba and the starters.

  • james brown

But KW and BATUM will never be gause as Hot or Cold! they will close games in Cliffs fantastix basketball mind even when they are SLEEPING!

  • KHuang

Batum simply isn’t all that good.

  • Alain Gervais

ty lawson playing a ton of minutes to average worse stats then Lin did in Rox land. Rox wasted so much for jealousy

  • CJSHYY

I think he will get a long team contract next summer for sure. Not worry about it.

  • Dan Cohen

too bad.. too late.. morey’s doing.

  • Alain Gervais

    siiigghhhhhhh…….

  • Acbc

As it is Lin gets way too much media exposure in comparison to his stature as a low ranking bench player. Batum IMO is not happy and may indeed be jealous of Lin when he was so heavily recruited himself. Now Lin is constantly getting top billing for every game.

Clifford may be over compensating by not singling Lin out for praise to the media to keep the peace in the locker room.

  • james brown

    yes

  • GoJLin!

As long as Lin got both playing minutes & Points; PG or SG or combo; they all fine with me. Plus stay healthy & be happy!

  • Dan Cohen

he was trying to do a trick shot

  • wandertheglobe

Lin wants to start. He’ll do what’s best for his career. Hopefully, MDA will land a gig somewhere, SAC, MEM, NETS, MIN, then Lin may have a chance to be starter again.

  • Alain Gervais

In the mean time. Lamb is a product of Lin. Lin will out play him on most nights. He will also play better defense on most nights.

  • CJSHYY

Harden prefers PB but Lawson just will not go to be a bench. It’s OK just let Harden do all the PG/SG job. It’s a long season….Lawson will have his chance ….LOL!

  • Alain Gervais

Lawson playing 38 MPG. Lawson not as popular like Lin so he is ok with Lawson

  • Acbc

    Yep, I remember that distinctly.

  • Michael

    Don’t tempt me…arr (not a pirate)

  • GoodDayLA

wow Lin highlights so strange. He looks like a different player from first 6 games. Is it the weak defense? or is it Lin?

    I wish I knew.

  • sws94

He may not outscore Lamb. Lin and Lamb can be a tandem along with maybe Lin and Zeller. If you mean compete for 2 guard then it’s a mess because Batum is playing 2 so I don’t know what position Lamb plays when he plays with Batum. Lin/Lamb/Batum/Kemba and a big man can finish games if Cliff doesn’t mind compromising defense with Lamb. But one of the best ways for Lin to get assists are catch and shoots to Lamb or find Zeller underneath. Lamb will do some drives and scoring or dishes, but mostly he’s a shooter.

  • Alain Gervais

It will be who evers hot plays. Which is deferent then what Cliff said in the preseason

  • CJSHYY

Before season started, Mc said something like Lawson had to compete w PB for starting job…. but don’t know it’s bc Lawson has good agent or himself talked to the top… Lawson stays for starting PG.

  • Rick Johnson

    https://twitter.com/MorningNewsUSA/status/664294908048510976

Lin continued to outshine Walker, shooting above 50 percent from the field without any turnovers. Every time Lin ran the floor, the Hornets upped the tempo and shot efficiently. Even as the Hornets were out-rebounded 48-34, their bench outscored Timberwolves 57-23 thanks largely to the efforts of Lin and Lamb.

  • DaVinci633

Hornets NBA page named Jeremy Lin the Player of the game

    “Hornets Player of the Game

Jeremy Lin scored a team-high and season-high 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting in 26 minutes off the bench for Charlotte’s third win in its last four games. Lin also added three assists and is now averaging 13.3 points over his last four games for the Hornets.”

    http://www.nba.com/hornets/hornets-hold-wolves-win

  • CJSHYY

Lamb can’t do well w/o Lin but Lin don’t need Lamb can do very well by himself.

  • sws94

That isn’t what Clifford said. That’s what the article thought but it isn’t what Cliff said. And it wasn’t who was hot that ended the game tonight, it was who played the better defense and also was good offensively. Al sat, it’s the second time Clifford has sat Al to close a game.

  • blubell
  • Michael

Honest answer, much better than the stuff we got from previous coaches.

  • Alain Gervais

    I agree

  • blubell

  • Alain Gervais

Every time Hornets have won it was the Bench who pulled the Lead. Im guessing this will be come a routine. The starters offensively are bad. Al looks misplaced. Batum is Clearly in a role that is too big for him. Kemba is just inefficient

  • Michael

    Counts as a turnip.

  • Nice!

  • GoJLin!

That is the difference in treatment for starter or bench; doesn’t matter Kemba & Batum hot or not, they will stay and close out the game; for Jlin, then always wait & see …. Pray Lin will stay healthy, working hard, have good numbers & find a starter position in a team really want him.

  • bolero

Someone was really cheering loud for the Hornets, specially when Lin hit his shot..

  • blubell

Thats exactly what a pirate would say…

  • Alain Gervais

I find it annoying in the vid lol but good job supporting Lin

  • He has that “I-Can-Score” mentality since coaches & teammates don’t hold their ends of the bargain about moving the ball & not caring who will score

  • CJSHYY

Ya! I think Batum is not as good as Cliff thought.

  • DaVinci633

ESPN’s Recap is ridiculously horrible. Clearly one sided featuring Timberwolves. Even the final stat line was LaVine??? No mention of bench plays on video.

  • blubell

  • GoodDayLA

in your honest assessment, will it keep up? We’ve seen them run play 1 every 3 games so far. Today was a weak defense.

  • zxcvb

Those confident midrange jumpers in the 4th were beautiful. They were perfect defended — just unguardable. Maybe Byron Scott helped Lin after all! Forced him to take those “low percentage” shots all year.

  • LW

Did Lin let the whole bus wait for him?

  • cdblue10

Don’t expect Lin to finished all the time.As I said before,it will take almost a perfect game before they can play him more minutes same as closing the game. This team is a douche, sorry I can’t contain myself…..

  • CJSHYY

KM didn’t hug Lin but to Batum?! He’s mad. LOL!

  • JLin Fan from Australia

No idea but he is really so good and kind to his fans.

  • CJSHYY

    Pretty crazy & funny. LOL!

Even Charlotte’s papers are doubting Clifford.

    This team are underachieving.

    Hairston 7 minutes. Good.

Lamb and Lin 20+ minutes. Good.

I’m just sorry cause if Jeremy played more minutes games like this could have been 30 points.

Cliff knows he needs Lin & if he wants to win he has to use Lin no matter he likes it or not. Don’t like Cliff. smh!

no team want lin for starter. Just hope he keeps up what he did tonight.

  • CJSHYY

No, he will not take more shots.

  • Spot

    OK, nearly 30.

Anyway team win so Clifford is right. At least he started to bench Hairston like we said.

  • james brown

hairstone= injured..He (hairstone) couldn’t understand why he’s a starter but wasn’t extended by the team, that’s why the dizzyness and headache!:P

  • cdblue10

If he just realized how much he needs Lin on the court most of the time.Other coaches knows that if you stop Lin then you stop the Hornets as simple as that but the coach see it otherwise.

  • sws94

He’s closed all of the competitive games this season. All of them.

  • CJSHYY

No matter Hornets will make it to playoff or not, don’t think Cliff will stay next season. Just like Al.

  • james brown

it seems that opposing coaches know that they have to plan something against Lin, but when the time comes that same coach coached him, his game plan stop has to be changed and change to how to stop lin for being the best player of his team! (logical?)

  • rookie75094

I pray Jlin will defeat the first of the nba axis of evil (knicks, rocketts, lakers) tomorrow…hehe

  • cdblue10

Al will be traded this season,he won’t even finish it that’s for sure, but for Clifford I think he will stay, same as Batum.

  • james brown

that i guess is a fact for sure unless he has some secret relationship with MJ!LOL!

  • CJSHYY

I think they will trade Al if they can but don’t think MJ will be that dumb to keep Cliff. He’s not good. MJ watched every game I am sure.

  • CJSHYY

Somehow I think Batum will try to test the market. He became more & more cares about his stats now.

  • JoeTeam

knicks meh, fox let’s beat, lakers they will beat esp if kobe plays.

  • PETE B

a pure role player for real starters AL Kemba Marvin and Nic
    3 and D role player

  • cdblue10

Most of the times you feel that coaches and team mates are also trying to stop Lin by all cost. It’s just me but it’s maddening to see and watched that most of the time.

  • Alain Gervais

Hope Lamb starts. See how different he looks

  • TTNN

no, they don’t change their plan, still need to contain Lin. lol

  • cdblue10

D’Antoni.I would love that idea.”just dreaming and hoping but who knows”

  • CJSHYY

That’s just what I thought… Hornets wants to keep Lin but they don’t have big market’s team media & fans like Lakers, Bulls, or NYK. But they can get the coach Lin likes for him… LOL!

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

I believe u owe me an apology.

  • CJSHYY

Me too. I want Cliff send Lamb to starting lineup. That will let Lin have more chance to take the shots.

  • wu kong

just throwing this out there…. 5 man lineup data…all from NBA stats. http://stats.nba.com/team/#!/1610612766/lineups/advanced/?sort=NET_RATING&dir=1

    Just some brief comments:

Reminder it is still early in the season so this
    data is very fluid…

    ·
    Lineup #5
is the Starting Lineup. Good NetRtg 25.6,
most minutes played as a group

    ·
    Lineup #3
is better than #5 (JLin is substituted for PJ) NetRtg 35.6! Very slow game
    PACE 78.08 with high AST/TO ratio of 6, 52.4eFG% &
    59.2TS%

    ·
    Lineup #4
is better than #5 Marvin Williams only starter in this lineup NetRtg essentially
same as starters 26.4. Fast game PACE 101.22 with high AST/TO ratio of 5, Excellent
    61.8eFG% & 62.3TS%

    ·
    Lineup #2
is better than #5 but with a caveat – the NetRtg is better 39.7 however the
AST/TO ratio is much less and the PACE is extremely fast 116.88 this is not a
sustainable pace but is very useful for short bursts.

    ·
    Lineup
#1 was used in 1 game for 4 minutes although it seems promising more data is
needed to see if this is sustainable

  • wu kong

just some early fun with numbers…

  • james brown

to relish more what happened to day..PLEEEEEASE!!!

  • DaVinci633

Hornets was down 9 points with 3 mins left in 1st with the starters. JLin came in at 1:30 left in 1st, Hornets made a run was up. 32-31. Lin scored 4pts in a row to take the lead. Hornets never looked back after that.

  • Maknusia

Oh gal…you shouldnt have given out the solution…we wanted psalm to crack his head for once! 😉

  • spiderman

it seems opposing teams are always more keenly aware of this

  • bolero
  • I love the #LinningFace with a little smirk attitude after JLin called the screen to fake his defender & finished the And-1

Something changed in this game. I think JLin finally realized he has to play his game to score to earn respect & Playing Time. No more over-facilitating since his teammates can’t practice “ball-movement” or “we-don’t-care-who-score”. Let’s hope it lasts for a long time!

    http://cdn.makeagif.com/media/11-11-2015/zpca50.gif

  • Maknusia

yup…I wish thats the case as well…

  • Nice! Lin’s a difference-maker in all Top lineups for sure!

  • blubell
  • GoodDayLA

zeller and hawes were GLAD he scored. look at their reaction. Lin needs to be assertive and confident like today. i don’t know how he can channel it.

  • your son’s voltaire

    man, they were loud LOL

  • CJSHYY

I believe either the top or as coach or even Cliff himself talked to Lin on Sun that’s why that bible tweet showed up… Whatever behind the door, I am glad it’s over. Hope from now on, Lin will play his game.

Ya! I like that look too. This move really so Harden to me. LOL! Good play from Lin.

  • GoodDayLA

lin did a mini lebron jab step today. rich man’s melo step. does really neat moves once every 100 games

  • spiderman

    means the word lol

  • GoodDayLA

at 7:01 look at hawes and zeller on highlight video. lin needs to see this & double down

  • Maknusia

but then we are still not sure whats going on…like Joyce mentioned, t be true…DA’s hands would be tied as well as Clifford

  • Mr Chuckles

I heard them. But I thought it was a bunch of chinese girls. Ha ha.

  • Maknusia

thanks as usual…need to place this at our stat page…i will do that later….cant do much from where I am now

  • spiderman

Hornets should hire the great screamers full-time!!

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Kemba and Batum both played 35minutes, which is too much…On nights where Lin and Lamb plays well, Cliff will need to bring down Kemba/Batum minutes down to about 28…and give the additional minutes to Lin/Lamb.

Lin only played 26 minutes which is too low considering he was the leading scorer of the game…How about bringing down Kemba minute from 35 to 29 and giving Lin the 6 minutes..That would mean Lin would have played 32 minutes instead of 26…that would had been more reasonable.

  • GoodDayLA

nothing change psalm. nothing, he done this before, see how he do tomorrow

  • CJSHYY

It’s a long season if coach wants to play Kemba & Batum for that long from starts… let him do it. I think he will need to play Lin near 30 min or more later ….

  • DaBoss

    There you go again.

  • Maknusia

Its just Game 7…seems 70 though!…lets see how are things around Mid-Dec or end of Nov

  • GoodDayLA

    speak harsh truth?

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

Clifford will need to? Clifford will give Kemba 35 minutes come heII or high water! Lin is lucky to break 20. Lin has been deceived, betrayed, whatever you want to call it. But he’s a great insurance policy should something happen to precious Batum or Kemba.

  • DaBoss

    No.

  • Rick Johnson

That was her? She must be a singer and had voice lessons or something.

  • spiderman

rebounding would be more competitive with Hansbrough

  • Rick Johnson

More like Curry. Harden just trying to get the foul, no so much actually trying to make the basket. Curry just throws it up there and it just seems to go in.

  • Rick Johnson

Then they seem to forget during free agency period.

  • orLinaryjoe

Lin will have another great game tomorrow.

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

who is she on the picture?

  • CJSHYY

Ya! You are right. So glad Lin made it too. Haha!

  • heart

And yet Cliff did not mention or give credit to Lin during that stretch.

  • Rick Johnson

Only one Lineup with Hansbrough / Lin. Was only 4 minutes but had NetRtg +47.3. Wish they would give that some minutes. Look at if you go with 2 man lineups what comes out on top. Hansbrough / Lin with NetRtg 48.9

  • Alain Gervais
  • Rick Johnson

From her twitter profile picture she’s the one on the left with the blue Adidas jacket.

  • Rick Johnson

Can’t wait for the Lakers @ Hornets game. (12/28). JLin going to tear them apart. Hope they don’t fire Byron Scott and Kobe doesn’t retire before then.

  • CJSHYY

When is the date for Hornets vs Lakers?

  • CJSHYY

Don’t think Russell is good but feel sad for him under BS …. smh!

  • Spot

So Clifford is just lucky 😀

  • Rick Johnson

12/28 in Charlotte, 1/31/16 in Los Angeles.

  • CJSHYY

    Thanks. Next month….

  • Rick Johnson

Randle just moved to the left and let him pass. What was that?

  • Maknusia

    poor guy..getting Lin’s treatment

  • Spot

So Hairston did not play cause of an injury?

Clifford was lucky. Let’s see if he learns who the best players on the team are.

  • Rick Johnson

    Migraine headache

  • Rick Johnson

Byron Scott probably doesn’t know what’s wrong.

  • Spot

    Thanks.

I could be OK with Jeremy being 6th man but then Lamb should start as SG and Batum as SF.

Let’s see if he figures it out.

  • sws94

How can Byron not be fired. The Lakers are a joke.

  • Maknusia

    Some Headlines…

Lin, Lamb lead Hornets over Wolves, 104-95

Charlotte Hornets coach Steve Clifford knows that if his team is going to surprise some people and make a push for an Eastern Conference playoff berth, his bench players will play a pivotal role.

One game after getting smoked by the San Antonio Spurs, Charlotte’s reserves made all the difference against the short-handed Minnesota Timberwolves.

    ..

“I think if we’re going to be really good, then we’re going to have good bench play,” Clifford said. “I mean, I think that our starters are good, but to be a really good team our bench is going to have to be like they were tonight.”

    ..

The Hornets fought back by getting to the free throw line relentlessly, going 14 of 17 on freebies in the first quarter alone. Lamb and Lin got going in the second quarter against Minnesota’s porous backcourt defense from the reserve guards.

Lamb scored 12 in the second quarter and Lin got into the paint at ease against a defense that had been in the top five in the league through the first six games.

“It’s not going to be like that every night but tonight we felt like we really needed a boost off the bench,” Lin said. “We wanted to make up for what we did last game, which was give them a negative boost against the Spurs when the starters came out strong.”

  • Maknusia

Jeremy Lin, Jeremy Lamb help New Orleans Hornets defeat Minnesota Timberwolves

MINNEAPOLIS — Needing a spark on offense, the Charlotte Hornets called on a pair of Jeremys to rescue the starters.

Lin scored a team-high 19 points, while Lamb added 18 points and four rebounds to give the Hornets their second road victory of the year.
    Charlotte’s reserves scored 57 of the team’s 104 points.

  • Spot

Fact is bench is better than starters 🙂

Let’s not forget Minnesota was playing a back to back game.

  • Joe what do you know

Randle: “hang on a minute…. Oh I’m a PF. Luol is a SF…. Oops sorry, I got the wrong man… You may pass buddy! Have a good layup!!”

  • Maknusia

Strong bench play propels Hornets to 104-95 win over Timberwolves

    MINNEAPOLIS

This sure didn’t look like the Charlotte Hornets had much chance early.

They started out missing their first nine 2-point shots and allowed the Minnesota Timberwolves to have a bit of a dunk fest. But with a strong performance from the bench – particularly Jeremy Lamb (18 points) and Jeremy Lin (19) – the Hornets prevailed on the road 104-95 at the Target Center.

    Three who mattered

Jeremy Lamb: After hitting six of his seven shots in the first half, Lamb looked like he’s worth the 3-year, $21 million contract extension he recently received.

Jeremy Lin: He drove hard to the rim to get to the foul line and drew two offensive fouls on defense.

Karl-Anthony Towns: The Minnesota Timberwolves rookie made some big-time moves in the fourth quarter.

    ▪ Coach Steve Clifford was happy in the preseason how the second unit had come together and the numbers back that up: The bench averaged 40 points per game over the first six games with Jeremy Lamb (12 ppg.) and Jeremy Lin (11.7 ppg.)
    leading the way.

    Yep. And KG too.

  • blubell

    Thanks! Will feature this 🙂

Has anyone noticed every opposition point guard is guarding Jeremy full court and pressing?…Could it be that word is going around to press Lin full court, specially after what happened during the Dallas games with Harris…and also the Hawks game with Dominique Wilkins suggested that if you press Lin, he will turn it over.

I noticed how as soon as Lin came in the game, they hard whoever was guarding him to guard him full court and press….Lin needs to be ready to blow pass these guys and drive to the hoop or create for a teammates.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Glad Lin gets the recognition at the end

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Clifford doesn’t let Lin play at fast tempo which is also Lin’s strength.

  • blubell
  • Brent Yen

I am pretty sure the scouting report of Lin has a part saying Lin does not perform good under pressure, and is TOV prone.

  • Phillycheese

Don’t let your facts ruin their perfectly good story.

  • Phillycheese

That blonde was really screaming loud. She’s pretty too. Lin should have invited the pair to party at his hotel.

  • Phillycheese

And they end up fouling him when they do this. Pretty soon they will stop because it’ll either be a blow by or a foul.

  • DX

Maybe Lin has left to other team.

  • Michael

The parrot on my shoulder is not amused.

  • Brent Yen

    Lakers maybe?

  • Michael

Isn’t fast, can’t guard people, can’t go left, poor 3pt shooter, inconsistent, videos aren’t funny….etc. Wow Brent we need a career change. NBA scouting experts.

  • Brent Yen

    LOL, we sure do….

  • Michael

Would be funny if Crystalleexoxo is the guy in the back.

Is she a Charlotte Hornets or a Jeremy Lin fan in Minnesota?….I also kept hearing louse noise of fan screaming for Lin…Was that them?

There were quite a fair bit of JLin fans in this game. Could be anyone.

The best interview on JLin and Coach Cliff on JLin that I’ve read thus far. Sorry, it’s too long for me to do any translation. Maybe someone else will.

    林书豪“迷你专访”
    http://www.weibo.com/p/1001603908045422896658?sudaref=t.co

  • KHuang

At the rate you’re going, you’ll need about 200 more games to realize that Lin makes these kinds of moves EVERY GAME.

  • KHuang

FANTASY is not the same as “hard truth”, GoodDayLA.

  • KHuang

Zeller came to play, so that loosened up the game for Lin.

Hawes did not perform, but Lin only needs one of the two big men out there to produce for Lin to not be smothered by defenses.

  • KHuang

And I get FLAMED for wanting Hansbrough to play.

  • KHuang

I think Zeller has finally learned that he needs to PLAY HARD every game.

As long as Zeller is playing hard, it will offset Hawes’ slow scared play.

Lin only needs one of his two big men to play well for defenses to not load up on him.

  • KHuang

I HOPE that’s what the scouting says.

Because then Lin will have an easy game!

  • John Focker

Cuban’s finest, Chandler Parsons (15M) and Wesley Matthews (16M) combined for 3PTS on 1-10 shooting in loss to the sorry Pelicans. Felton (4M) added another 2PTS on 0-5 shooting.

But sure, pass on Jeremy, dimwit.

  • KHuang

Once they realize that Lin needs to be TRIPLE TEAMED the moment he catches the ball inside the 3 pt line, teams will have more success against Lin the way Atlanta did.

  • KHuang

Every team in the NBA that gets badly burned by Lin’s $2 million play is a laughingstock.

That includes the Spurs who Lin dumped 12 points on.

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

I’m satisfied with Lin’s 19point game, but I was really hoping for maybe 25-30 since he already had 13 by half time….A lot of that had to do with not enough minutes….Also, Lin spent way too much time on the corner, considering he was the top scorer, that should had not happened as often as it did.

  • Spot

They both come from knee surgeries.

They’re good. Not worth their contract though.

  • John Focker

Matthews coming off Achilles injury, usually career ending. Throwing 16M his way is a HUGE (and not to mention unwise) gamble, especially after seeing Kobe’s case.

  • Spot

If Jeremy had score 30, It would’ve been as great as Curry 53 points vs Pelicans.

  • John Focker

A valid take, with the assumption that Lin standing in a corner is out of his personal choice. He may have been instructed, we just don’t know.

  • John Focker

More minutes would’ve been useless as long as Batum hogs the rock. Jeremy barely touched the ball in the last 4 min.

  • John Focker

Media giving recognition, slowly reversing Rox toxicity.

  • John Focker

What goes around comes around. McHale said the same thing about Lin/PB, history is just repeating itself with PB now playing victim. Well-deserved, he had it coming.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

If you are able to read the Chinese interview, it’s the coach’s decision.

  • grover chang

everyone hear has their own perception of how Lin is doing. But your posts have a pattern of backhanded compliments.

  • grover chang

Yeah, I hope Lin realizes scoring first does not necessarily mean your being a bad teammate. Depending on the situation he is not being a good teammate by not looking to score.

  • John Focker

At least Clifford acknowledged Lin’s great lockdown defense on Kevin Martin and let Lin, rather than hot-shooting Lamb, close the game. My take is that since Walker and Batum freeze out the Jeremys on offense anyways, might as well keep Lin on the court because Lin > Lamb on defense.

  • Lam

Wished I could read mandarin. This looks like a very insightful article. Google may be able to build driverless car but they still can’t do proper translation.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Yes indeed it’s. The best of all I have read.

  • KHuang

Walker and Batum got tired of Lin totally outplaying them, so they froze him out.

  • Maknusia

    LOL…here is a crude Uncle Google’s translation….but you will get the storyline…

Beijing on November 11 (US local time on November 11) Hornets visit Minnesota, I can finally see Jeremy again to see how he was doing in this Hornets team. Jeremy never interviewed before the game, when he was in the locker room open court warm-up at the end of warm-up, the locker room is also closed to the media. Would like to see him have to wait until after the game, the game time constraints, did not talk for a few. Today I got up early to find the Hornets PR cotton, in order to show my friendship for the Hornets, I wear a pair of specially Hornets color of the shoes, and he sent a whole and the same hairstyle book ho …… Hornets PR promised me in let me into the locker room after the game three minutes earlier, to the book ho a “mini interview.” Three minutes is very short, but you can also do a lot of things.

And public relations cover almost finished, went to interview the coach before the game, I asked Hornets coach Clifford Lin performance since the start meet your expectations for him. Clifford with a very positive tone replied: “Yes, he did this year our team has a lot of new players, they need a little more time to make himself and his team run more smoothly, good Lin’s learning ability. So he played very well.

I immediately asked: “Hornets gave the Lamb a big contract, which gave me the feeling that the team will focus on training Lamb, Jeremy Lin in the squad after status will be discharged Lamb, in the field of play time also will be squeezed, I do this feeling real? “

Clifford said: “No, I do not think so, but the contract agreement, its role position and the field with the players in the team are not related to Jeremy Lin played very well, he is our important rotation player. He can play every night, the fourth quarter last time also remain in the field, he played very well, I’m looking forward to his performance this season. ”

Clifford’s answer gave me the feeling is quite true, I do not think he was deliberately talk about things. First, of course, Jeremy Lin’s performance since the opening quarter, as a playing time 22 minutes, $ 2.1 million annual salary of the bench, the data to be perfect; secondly he can indeed stay on the floor in the fourth quarter of last time , which represents the trust of his coach by no means empty talk. Recall that last year the Lakers two visits to Minnesota, when I chatted with coach Scott Lin, he really is too lazy to even installed equipment, good things do not last part.

Of course, Clifford said is the truth, but it does not mean that Lin really strong position. The game, Lamb performance was very good, Jeremy Lin has become the bench last was only fielded. Halftime, Jeremy Lin played only nine minutes, and then look at other players, than he was to be a lot more playing time, but not his good data. Jeremy Lin play again at the end of the third quarter, the performance is good, more is almost played in the fourth quarter. In court, he is obviously the third, fourth and eventually choose to attack, and his own desire to attack is also not strong enough. But his defense is very good fourth quarter, the Kevin – Martin is completely blocked off.

Game see here, I thought for a moment to Jeremy Lin issue.

After the game, Clifford said in an interview: “Wiggins and Rubio did not play, did not let the Wolves become the same, but this is NBA, such a thing will happen every day, and today is their tomorrow probably We, the key is not who we play, but how to fight ourselves. Our team lineup is good, but in order to become a better team, the bench must like them stand out today, rather than the image and Spurs game that is completely suppressed when my biggest worry today is Kevin – Martin, Jeremy Lin in the fourth quarter, but he completely locked up, and he had won many points, I think our team two Jeremy (Jeremy Lin and Lamb) are very good. “Clifford did not wait for the end of the interview, I was in public relations to help the Hornets Hornets under sneaked into the locker room, Jeremy Lin had just finished undressing, we are finishing towels and toiletries ……

Our three minutes by his initiative to say hello on:

    Lin: Hey Hello!

Me: Jeremy Hello! The overall situation on your own in the Hornets satisfaction? 1 to 10, is not satisfied, very satisfied with 10, you play a bit?

Lin: I am very satisfied, a few days ago I also said, I think I found a sense of security in the Hornets. I played 10 minutes.

I: This sense of security whether from stable playing time? I noticed a couple of games before today, your playing time there is a slight downward trend.

Lin: I can not decide myself how long to play, this is the coach set, I can do myself.

Me: Let’s talk about the expected value of this question, I know you do not like to mention and I’m crazy about it, but now you have completely become a very ordinary player, you really think he is such a player?

Lin: I think the fans and the team I look forward to my expectations are not the same, I did the past few years has experienced many difficulties, I certainly hope I can do better on the court, but the bottom line is that I want To stay in this league continues to play ball, when I need to play to the basic needs and efforts, I really attend to what’s called the expected value. I cherish this feeling the ball in play. I own requirements are very high, more than everyone, I have my own expectations, but also believe that God has heard my prayer.

I: Do you sometimes seem offensive desire is not so strong in the field, such as today’s fourth quarter, you always standing near the foot three-point line, and rarely received a pass, and why?

Lin: I think it’s just a different field situation, today the fourth quarter, the coach let me defend Martin, Martin is very difficult to prevent a player, I have to exert all efforts, to the offensive end, I did not the first team a choice, but I have always been a team-oriented player, this is not my problems.

Me: “I heard you in the summer worked hard shot, but a few games it seems, is still very large fluctuations have any idea.?”

Speaking here, the “big force” came in, American reporters are all around in the surrounding Jeremy Lin, Jeremy Lin continued replied: “Yes, I summer specially trained to shoot, I put my release point is reduced, but also shot radian The reduced body control also strengthened when I shoot, I cast these two is not good, especially pointers. Honestly, I think he is completely hit those balls, but I did not vote in the I will continue to work hard, I need more time to put my training effect to show up. ”

Jeremy Lin has been the support and disgust stark two forces, supporters always feel that if Jeremy Lin have a chance, he will be able to reproduce’m crazy, at least you can become an averaging 18-20 minutes of the main players, and hate those who think that he has gone enough Goushi Yun, and also old rushing headlines, almost on the line. As Jeremy Lin himself in the end is how to think, but few people care about.

Jeremy Lin “mini interview” a blink of an eye on the end, he took Pantene shampoo into the bathroom, I do not see what brand of hair gel, but can not draw any conclusions from such a brief conversation. But I think, as he said, the bottom line is he wanted to play. Even his situation and status have been so ordinary, but his aura has not dispersed, can feel his heart simmering a strong, he maintained a reference to “for their very high demand.”

Jeremy Lin is indeed a brilliant flash in the pan, but he also insisted that their own to maintain a certain standard. He has been almost impossible to maintain the current status of the Hornets in it, or else he played better and a little more time to get the ball, or else someone else to play a little better so he lost the existing position, he fall behind in a point. But this is already a few years he has had the best situation.

That’s like saying the sky is blue. Every pg in the league will under perform when under pressure.

It’s like saying Tom Brady will throw interceptions if you pressure him with blitzes. A good coach will prepare team in such a way as to make you pay if you play one on one with his receivers. That’s why I still maintain that Woodson and Melo deliberately left Lin out to dry in Miami when the big 3 threw everything at Lin. Lebron and Wade both wanted to guard Lin.

When Lin got head butted in Dallas, what was apparent was that no teammate came out height to screen off that pesky Beverly impersonator. That guys defence was high energy and certainly could not last. It would’ve been like a hockey shift of 30-45 seconds only in order for him to keep that energy level up.

  • Maknusia

lol…you think translation is that easy?! I speak 6 languages…the biggest problem is the grammar semantics…its not a standard flow and it changes sentences to sentences.

  • Teal

hmm..not very nice to bash Lin’s teammates…isn’t Walker touted as a team player, Hornets leader? will he ever get jealous with LIn? After all, Walker has the free reign, same with Batum.

  • Jedi

I seriously pondered this too when I was watching the game. Maybe they have a lifestyle that they don’t want someone like Jeremy joining their team and praying for them!

  • Maknusia

I doubt that….but they is no way of saying a factual quo animo

  • Maknusia

    never too late… 🙂

  • Teal

    lol

  • KHuang

I don’t care about being “nice”.

I’m just gonna call the game as I see it.

  • KHuang

Any time a HOT HAND is forcibly denied the ball, it’s a FREEZOUT.

  • Teal

That’s ok. Being nice can be defined as being honest too. Thumbs up.

  • KHuang

    If Lin’s a one year rental, he’s a HECK of a rental.

  • Acbc

Lamb got the “Lin treatment” for playing too good. ONLY 20 MINUTES!. Lin would have sat too if it wasn’t for the fact that he was needed to seal the win. Clifford had one eye on this game and one eye on Knick’s game. Kemba and Batum needed the work to get their shots back, like how Clifford threw Lin back in when he wasn’t playing well.

Mchale was a stop watch coach with his sub patterns. It was idiotic with no conception of why or what for. I can’t believe that people are comparing him favourably to Clifford. Smh.

  • Maknusia

you sure…you want brent to take up that job…becareful what you ask for

  • That was a very good performance from Lin. The Lin we expected to see, he was aggressive it was just a shame his 3 pointers were just not falling. His shot will come but we will just have to be patient with it for now.

  • KHuang

I should also add that I’m totally OK with Batum and Walker hogging the ball while Lin was in the game.

The team was way ahead despite Batum and Walker being outplayed in all game long, plus Lin had already GOTTEN HIS.

Lin still did enough offensively to seal the victory. Clifford could easily have pulled Lin with about 3 minutes left. Lin was not needed late in the game.

  • Maknusia

The team is not build around LIN….its coach’s decision to run a certain sets play and game style and players should follow

  • KHuang

Lin’s gotta not settle for the 3 pointer.

I might sound like Byron Scott for this, but I believe that Lin should not automatically take the 3 pointer just because it’s there.

I’d prefer Lin to limit his 3 pointers just a bit, especially on the road where he’s not as familiar with the road arenas.

  • Maknusia

    more suicide drills?!lol

  • Spot

Agree. Jeremy should play like Tony Parker.

Unfortunately he doesn’t play in a system who made Parker flourishes.

  • Chopz

Kemba kept trying to get his and batum just straight up ignored him, he went to the other side over and over again. Its funny how your own team cools u off instead of opposing team. The game was goin well up until lin hit that last shot at about 3:55 left on the clock and then harden freezeout time.

  • Acbc

He needs 1000 more posts before he comes up with a real compliment and not a backhanded compliment. It will be a really good day in LA then.

  • KHuang

Not me – Brent as a scout would be a bigger scourge to Lin than any professional NBA scouting report.

Brent Yen knows way too much about Lin’s game.

  • KHuang

Lin is fine at any tempo.

  • wu kong

OK so the mystery this season is to determine what the heck his hair gel is… come on spies get to work out there! ha ha that cracked me up at the end that this guy was looking for the gel!

  • Maknusia

    totally! KHuang knows Brent well!

  • Maknusia

    indeed

  • KHuang

    Absolutely he doesn’t.

There’s so much wrong with Byron Scott’s old school approach to the modern game, not even Lin can correct it.

  • Chopz

Thats one thing from our 80’s style i still like. Warm up to the three, get in closer, get familiar with the rim, hit some midrange shots, then throw in the dagger threes.

  • KHuang

I would consider it a FAIL if Lin was as limited a player as Parker is, especially when Parker doesn’t have Tim Duncan protecting him.

Lin is a marvelous scorer in any system, as long as he doesn’t always settle for the 3.

  • KHuang

If Lin were playing in the 80s, he’d be even more unstoppable than he already is.

That’s because in the 80s, it would be impossible to zone Lin with 3 guys like Lin is in every game so far.

  • Weifang

He is also a HECK of backup multi-role guard. (PG/SG/Defense Only) Not sure if any guard was used like him. I often want to call him band-aid player.

  • kittyhead

Kind of sad tone…but maybe it’s just the truth…

  • sws94

That’s the bottom line. Lin is part of the team, the offense and entire style of play is not built around Lin. It used to be geared around Jefferson but they are going away from that.

  • Acbc

People need to realize that the verse he quoted was instrumental for him to play relaxed and unimpeded. Athletes always say “I just needed to get out of my own way”. What they mean is that they are too caught up with wants and desires and that weight of self expectation as well as fan expectations slows them down with too much upper brain activities in game situations. One of the things athletes all say is that they need to ” get out of their own way”, they “surrender” the control of their body to allow the lower brain to play involuntarily.

The 10,000 hour rule is to teach the body to activate proper sequencing of muscle activation. That groomed action is why an athlete can shoot 70-80% 3s in practice, but only half of that efficiency in the game. What happens in the game is external pressure from opponents and fan energy, excitement and adrenalin all combine to interfere with that internal programming. When you add in the fact that Lin is also “TRYING” with his consciousness to direct movements, it makes for a lot of misfiring of muscles, or choking. By surrendering his personal wants and desires to God, he symbolically also surrendered his upper brain to allow the lower brain function unimpeded.

  • sws94

    I don’t know. I remember the hand-checking.

  • Maknusia

lol. not even BS could correct it

  • Maknusia

    @brentyen:disqus you are hired! 🙂

  • Acbc

“Let us be in one of your videos”

  • Maknusia

actually…forget about the past…lets give everyone (FO, Coach, Lin) a fresh start….thus far…I’m fine with the rotation and Lin need to continue to prove his game…if Lin does that for 20 games and doesnt get his minutes…then obviously there is something wrong…..I concede

  • Acbc

    Truth

  • Weifang

What I see so far, Lin never gets into his zone or rhythm after preseason. His shooting form (not upper body, I mean lower body) is very inconsistent. This is not new though, I saw him doing this with other teams when he is learning the new system, new roles, playing with new players and with limited minutes,
And also it’s not new that Lin still can score 19 pts, haha. after he gets more comfortable with the new system and those two slow-learning bigs, his 3 will be back for sure.

  • Maknusia

    As I have written above…
forget about the past…lets give everyone (FO, Coach, Lin) a fresh start….thus far…I’m fine with the rotation and Lin need to continue to prove his game…if Lin does that for 20 games and doesnt get his minutes…then obviously there is something wrong…..I concede

  • BobbyH

It appears that Clifford wants to go with the hot hand to close 4Q (from post game interview). I think that is a good thing to motivate Lin to shoot more whenever he has the chance: no guarantee with PT and you need to fight for it, like last game vs T-Wolves and the game before vs Spur.

So Lin. what is your choice? Facilitate and over-help or glue your guy and shoot more? If you want more PT?

  • Maknusia

Its a balancing act…even in the interview below…he kinda inclined to it…Lin is not a volume shooter he do it out of necessity

  • Weifang

His not allowed to attack at the end of 4th q. His task was defense at end of the game. This has been consistent so far. He will attack only when coach asks him to.

  • pandaboy99

Once lins 3 pts shot gets hot again, he’ll be scoring 25 easily in 25 min. His per 36 will be insane

  • CJSHYY

Haha! They talked… Now it’s all PR to public. But I am glad problem solve. NO more please. Just hope Lin can have good stats this season. Thanks for the interview infor.

  • John Focker

On court actions do the bashing quite well on their own.

  • Maknusia

i dont think thats the case…he had his assignment and his priority was to fulfill that…which he did perfectly

  • John Focker

“Clifford could easily have pulled Lin with about 3 minutes left. Lin was not needed late in the game.”

Not entirely true, Lin provided the lock down defense as a safety cushion in case Batum and Walker fail to stat-pad and squander away the lead.

  • Maknusia

looking forward to it as well 🙂

  • Weifang

Oh? Last game interview stated like this by Lin and Clifford. Before the last game, it’s pretty consistent. I guess “not allowed” is too strong. How about he is the 4th option to attack?

  • CJSHYY

I think Lin will close the game. Check the interview below. Clifford said: “No , I do not think so , contract is just contract, that has nothing to do w players’ role & position. It’s not relative. Jeremy Lin played very well, he is our important rotation player . he can play every night , late fourth quarter also will remain on the court. He plays very well , I ‘m looking forward to his performance this season . “

  • BobbyH

We shall see. 75 games to go.

  • JJ Hui

Batum shouldn’t take over the PG job, most of the time he had bad passes and ended up TO! This situation had been going on and i dont know why the Char Hornet not able to correct it. For goodness sake, Batum is not a PG and no PG skill, why eliminate other talented PG on the court? SICK of this!

  • Maknusia

mabe…as I mentioned, looking at the below interview it was clear his assignment was to contain KM…and as a matter of fact, CClifford acknowledged it as well. If some one is assigned to do a defensive job in Q4, it shows the trust…..CC trusted Lin could do the job

  • CJSHYY

I think they already made a deal on Sun. I just hope Lin can get his good stats…. Cliff needs Lin & he knows top wants to keep Lin.

  • John Focker

Neither should Harden. It’s all in the buttering.

  • Dorothy

thanks for posting Lin’s interview. Something he said bothers me a LOT. Lin said my fan’s expectation of me is different from mine and my team’s. Over the years, I have gone through many hurdles. I, of course, wish I can play better on the court. BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS, I WANT TO STAY IN THIS LEAGUE AND PLAY. WHEN I HAVE TO WORK HARD IN ORDER TO GET THE CHANCE TO PLAY ON THE COURT, I REALLY CAN NOT CARE ABOUT THE EXPECTATIONS OF OTHERS.

My translation maybe a little off. If anyone can come up with better translation, please do.

  • sws94

I didn’t hear that. I heard that Clifford wants to go with guys that can play defense and offense. Lamb was the hottest hand, Lin was in there for defense. And Lin has been in there in the 4Q closing out the close games. He may not close out every close game but it looks like Cliff favors Lin with Kemba/Batum and a big man to close out games so far. It is early, but it looks like the reason for closing out the games is not the hot hand, but defense and playmaking and I think with Lin, the ability to draw fouls.

  • Maknusia

I think CC is molding the team to have multiple options…its a long season. no one know whats gonna happen and it too will create a moment of surprise as well

  • Maknusia

I’m okay with that….why does it bothers?

  • sws94

Fans expect more than Lin is in a position to give them. That’s the way it is for some players.

  • DX

Glad if BS and Kobe left.

  • Dorothy

My interpretation is he is just happy he gets the chance to stay at NBA and be able to have PT and what he said is more in line with what KHuang has been saying. He is just fighting for the chance to have PT and stay in NBA.

  • Acbc

The modern game has been changed by Stef Curry. He’s proving everyday that high percentages from beyond the arc is achievable when everyone else though 40% was a good bench mark. Curry is raining the bar and with it the way the game will need to adapt. Even bigs now are shooting 3s, which is why we are both so high on Kaminsky. His outside threat magnifies his interior spacing and attacks. I still agree that a dagger midrange is very important in high pressure situations, just as Lin proved last night in the forth when Hairnets needed an answer and a stopper.

Clifford is trying to get the Hornets to adapt to the new game, but no one on the starters can reliably shoot 3s. This is also compounded by big Al being himself. Which is why I agree with you that Lin is sooooo much better on second unit with Lamb and hopefully Kaminsky soon! Those 3 can rain 3s in force defences to open up. Lin will just feast along with everyone else on the second unit. That’s why I keep saying the first unit is like a checking line in hockey while the second unit is the scoring line. This has happened more than a few times already. Hornets can do real damage if Clifford gets Kam going along with psycho t and Marvin. I’m salivating at the prospect of seeing this unit absolutely demolish opponents.

  • sws94

I wish the terms backup and reserves weren’t used. I like first team and second team better. Yes, the starters can get more minutes, but that’s not even always the case. Some guys come off of the bench and get significant minutes. Lin as a rotational player sounds fine and Cliff called him an important rotational player. That’s what he is. Backup almost sounds like understudy which is not what guys that come off of the bench do. They only backup when the starter goes down but their part of the rotation is to either keep the momentum of the team, change it if the starters aren’t clicking, or have a different style offering a team a different look. They also mix and match with the starters.

  • Maknusia

    Thats a smh…double LOL

  • sws94

Good post. But Cliff seems to love Hawes for some strange reason. I don’t think Lin will ever be considered a 3 point shooter, he’s still a slasher/penetrator that can score or dish from that. Lamb and Kaminsky are shooters.

  • JJ Hui

Not only PT, it is obvious that he keeps improving and working hard, that is different from a person who is just wanted to have Playing Time! Just look at his hair, it makes a strong statement. He is who he is, that is why he is so special! He doesnt have to do what people like, he likes the hair and so he does it! I say lovely! 🙂

  • Weifang

of course, Coach trusted Lin, This is not about trust, at it’s pretty consistent for now that the main reason Lin can close the game because of his defense not his offense. Lin just follow’s Coach’s instruction, my point is to answer BobbyH, it’s not his choice to shoot the ball whenever he wanted.

  • Arsenium12 .

Asian-American Heritage NIght will be this Sunday (Nov. 15th). Charlotte plays Portland, at home.
    __________

  • kittyhead

Always remind me of CP25…maybe it’s a trend in NBA that SF plays point like LeBron? hehe

  • sws94

Cliff may utilize Lin’s offense more further into the season late in the games. For now, I’m happy he’s closing most games so far.

  • Dorothy

I feel sad that he plays much much better than many many NBA “stars”, but he has to work so hard just to get play time and stay in NBA. SMH

  • Chopz

A point guard is supposed to survey the entire court, find the best option and pass. Then next time down the court, do the same thing but pass to others so they feel involved in the game. Spread the wealth. Lin does this but many times doesn’t get it back, but thats what u do as a point guard, pass the rock. Batum doesn’t have this skillset, he has tunnel vision.

  • JJ Hui

But Lebron is good! Batum? He is like a baby learning to walk but took over a sprinter’s role!

  • JJ Hui

He is clunky and clumsy and slow! Not a PG material!

  • Chopz

Yup, even when he’s dribbling down the court, his body is too stiff n he stands straight up. That leaves u prone to getting picked, you’re supposed to arch lower to protect the ball, and lean forward a bit more.

  • golfhacker

It depends how he is being defended. If the defender is crowding him, he should look to blow by him. BUT if he is given space and is open, he has to take the shot, especially if he is the “SG”. If he passes up the open 3, he becomes easier to defend. The defender will just sag back and prevent the dribble penetration. Everyone one else on the team has no reservations about launching 3s if they’re open (except Hawes). I don’t think Coach will be upset if you take open 3’s. He said he wants more 3-pt shots this year. Given the same number of shots, even hitting 30% of 3’s is more points than hitting 40% of 2’s.

  • kittyhead

Got the same feeling…perhaps we should feel happy he could have 20 mins of playing time at least…that’s it.

  • Yascar

That’s the story of his life. I’d wager his fans are more bothered by it than he is.

  • JJ Hui

He is a pioneer, he is popular, he is handsome, he has charisma, he is super smart and talented in many ways, he has lots of fans over the world! I forgot, he is also rich! So dont need to feel sad, we just have to support him through thick and thin!!!

  • JJ Hui

He gives me an impression like an old man playing bball! Lol! I meant when he bring up the ball doing the PG role!

  • BobbyH

Not in 4Q. But once Lin gets in, he needs to have the shoot first mentality, like last 2 games.

  • spiderman

Harris spazzed out like the exorcist. Surprised he didn’t vomit pea soup on Lin too.

  • Weifang

of course, I believe that Clifford trusted Lin on offense more than defense. The problem for offense is it shows on the scoreboard and became NBA dollars which is beyond Coach’s control.

  • Alain Gervais

Look like he is protective of this team. !st team I’ve seen Lin protect. Tells me he likes this team

  • JJ Hui

I dont like CP25, i always feel that he is not a real Lin friend, just my personal opinion!

  • Acbc

When I. Used to coach, I’d tell all my players to be wary of fans and especially the bandwagon fans. They love you when you are winning and trash you when you let them down. My advise was to always ignore ALL fans and focus only on your own process. In general, adulation becomes like a drug of empty calories. They give you a high to have love heaped upon you, but in the end it’s just emptyness and hollow expectations in disguise.

As a fan of Lin, I try very hard not to ever demand anything from him and admire him from a distance.

  • KHuang

I recall Lin talking about fan expectations, especially with his own family.

He understood that fans had expectation, but as the player who’s doing the job Lin just has to focus on doing the best he can in whatever situation he is handed.

It’s really not his call whether Lin can advance his career or not.

  • KHuang

That’s just typical fare for being Asian American.

  • KHuang

There IS NO CHOICE for Lin.

He’s to follow coach’s orders and play off teammates as best he can.

    It’s not Lin’s call.

  • KHuang

    Hand checking?

Lin gets hand checked NOW in today’s game!

Michael Jordan was never defended as hard as Lin is today.

  • Weifang

Oh, you talking about his hesitation and passing first mentality showed in those game I guess. I just think that’s his unusual strategy to build the team ball. I think it works for long term though.

  • DX

Lin is correct. Blame on coach or team won’t help any and even make worse. MUST WORK HARD AND DO BETTER THAN OTHERS, HE CAN GET CHANCE.

  • KHuang

I do believe that Walker and Batum would’ve squeaked by with like a 1 or 2 pt victory had Lin sat after establishing that comfortable lead.

  • KHuang

Many guards have been tried that way, NONE have produced like Lin has.

  • Maknusia

maybe maybe not…Ibly Lin could clear the air…to me…my interpretation was Fans was him to be the best scorer, an high scorer who fills the stats.

Thats not Lin and he doesnt want to become that…he can score but thats not him.

Sometimes, its mindboggling to see fans fighting his scoreline. To me Lin wants to be a playmaker and thats what he loves. And its a fact…the reason scouting report missed Lin for NBA draft, because they dont value playmakers…they saw lin score…lin can assist…lin could get to FT line…but it want anyting great…but they failed to him playmake.

In soccer terms he is similar to ZIdance, Zico and Maradona…these guys can score if they wanted but their passion and strength was at playmaking…fans then was also mocking these players.

To me Jeremy similar to Maradona…he can score at will, but if only challenged, either by opponent or circumstances. Similar to them, Lin like to control the game, control the rhythm, set the pace, create various scoring options, set the tempo…but when he is pushed the shenron dragon moves to Super Saiyan form to take over. we have seen this for close to half a decade now, yet fans dont seem to understand.

I have coached for many years from elementary to junior high and national team, similarly from my experience I think what CC is doing s the “right” thing. There is a difference doing the “best” thing and “right” thing.

During my coaching stint in soccer and birdie (badminton), I always had new comers either from school transfer or brought over by management. Its always been catch 22 do I keep the core team wo had been with us all these years, happy or do I make a drastic change when a new player is introduced?

The right thing to do is to keep the core team intact and create the best atmosphere. Even thought I know thats not the best thing to do…with the new player on the team..who is superbly good. Changes cant be drastic but it works well as an injection to boost the team morale, where and when needed.

Similarly CC, is doing the same with overcharging BB philosophy…SCurry is changing how NBA could also be played with 3s teamball, etc…as @disqus_zDgJ5zJRLn:disqus had pointed out.

Forget about the past how coaches had used or rather misused him. Lin is in good environment and situation now. he just need to continue to do what he had been doing this season…very well indeed.

I’m pretty sure changes will come.

Do we want to Lin to forgo his dream and fulfill fans dream or as a fans, do we want to support Lin to his course?

  • Maknusia

you have to do with what you have…aint it

  • Acbc

To be a good fan is to be happy for your favorite player when they are happy. To give them unconditional love and support without any hint of what you desire for them. To trust and have faith in them….kinda like how one should raise their own children.

    Welcome to the family, lol

  • CJSHYY

I am not worry bc FO don’t treat Lin like a 2M player but since he’s not sign a long team contract w the team. Of course he will not be #1 option in the team right now. Lin said in China, he will behind Kemba, Al in O. It will not be Linsanity this season bc even starters in this team only took around 12 shots the most per game.

  • KHuang

    But it’s completely understandable.

Actually, it didn’t seem long to me.

I just want Lin to make the right play – and almost always, HE DOES.

  • IsabeliJane*17

Hear, hear.. if Jeremy decides to meet the expectations of his fans, he will lose being himself and become a puppet.

I don’t want to be snarky, but I’ll say it as it is: there are like hundreds of players out there in the NBA, each with his own strengths and weaknesses. If you admire something that Jeremy may be isn’t, it’s not a bad idea to follow another NBA player’s career that may fit your preferences as to how an NBA should be.

  • KHuang

Lin’s hit enough shots and blown up enough opponents, nobody’s gonna let him fire uncontested 3s.

  • KHuang

Curry’s situation DOES NOT APPLY to Lin.

Curry has plays run for him. Lin does not.

  • Maknusia

    indeed…he does

  • KHuang

By your definition, an “understudy” is EXACTLY what Lin is on Charlotte.

His sole job right now is to keep the Hornets barely afloat when Walker sits down.

However, Lin is completely outperforming the expectations the team has for Lin’s game.

  • NONONO

Coaching has some BIG issues. Whenever Lin played with starters as SG, all starters ignored him. I like some comment from a Hornets fan in realgm. “Either way, I want Lin to get more minutes. PJs minutes should mostly be split up between Lamb and Lin in my opinion. I think Lin should get a consistent 25+ mpg and get plenty of opportunities to attack while on the floor. I don’t like the way we are using him and I think we are somewhat wasting him.” It actually is BIG WASTING!

  • I get a sense that Jeremy wanted to communicate to his fans that his #1 expectation is to survive in the NBA, figure out what it takes to be valued on court enough to get a lot of minutes.

At least that’s what he’s truly feeling at the moment, he knew not many teams are giving him chances and he has to fight hard in the current backup PG role to play a lot of minutes.

Based on last night’s performance and his determined attitude, I think he’s discovering that his ability to play shutdown defense and provide clutch scoring when it matters the most in the 4th quarter are his calling cards in this Hornets team.

I truly respect that JLin is simply a survivor; God willing he’s figuring out how to make an impact in a team needing wins, scoring and leadership. He did that last night. On to the next game with the Knicks.

  • DX

Well said. A true Lin fan should support him in the right way. Make unreasonable blames, complaints, or excuses won’t help any.

  • GoodDayLA

He has to play like last night every night in order to do anything.

  • sws94

Not really. Just perform as well as possible most nights. Nobody expects it every night. I’d say keep the defense as steady as possible.

  • CJSHYY

Cliff just wants Lin to be SG like Lance last year. Lance always waiting for the ball to come in 3P line.

  • Brent Yen

    Yes sir!

  • wandertheglobe

Pelicans giving SG-PG Jimmer Fredette a non-guaranteed deal.

  • GoodDayLA

If they are wide open he should take them. If you dont trust your practice, you are done in the nba. Sometimes the touch can leave you but most nights he should take open shots.

  • Maknusia

    lol

  • NONONO

Is there a conspiracy? You all noticed that Clifford’s comments on Lin (such as good ball handler, not just can shoot, also can CREATE – not forced! – open shots for others, Lin and Walkers would work well as Worries splash brothers and so on) , is mostly contrary to how he has been using Lin for the past 7 games. It was big mistake to let Lin play SG and Waker for PG in 4q last night and it almost costed the game. Clifford is smart coach (500% smarter than Scott), Hornets wants to win. So, why Clifford seems make all these confused arrangements and costed Hornets lost two winnable games against ATL and played miserable games against Miami and Spurs? I saw some comments about some possible coaching politics, it was true, it could be the big problem for Clifford and Lin. Could it be a conspiracy – Hornets (MJ or PE?) might want to get rid of Clifford as coach by forcing him to give “starers” as many as minutes and keep playing low post.

  • KHuang

Fredette would have been a GREAT fit next to Lin on the Charlotte bench.

If Clifford weren’t obssessed with Hairston’s size, the Hornets could start Lamb and bring Fredette off the bench with Lin.

Fredette is a far more creative player than Lamb is, plus Fredette draws double and triple teams in a way Lamb never will.

  • wu kong

I’m going to be there!!!! :-))))

  • that’s unrealistic but every time Lin makes a clutch play defensively or hit a big shot, Coach Clifford will trust more that he can deliver big plays in Q4 to get a Win.

No Lin, No Win last night. And he can do it while not being perfect from 3.

Let’s put it this way. Coach Clifford chose to not close with hot shooting 8-10 JLamb but Lin due to his defensive impact.

I’d say 60% defense & 40% offense will get JLin to close Q4. Once JLin gets regular Q4 time, he can make big shots like last night when the “stars” went cold and folded under pressure

  • KHuang

The only “conspiracy” would be Clifford deliberately limiting Lin’s minutes so that Walker and Batum don’t feel threatened by Lin constantly producing more than they do.

  • NONONO

correction: “IF it was true, it could be the big problem for Clifford and Lin…”

  • NONONO

Clifford wants to win to keep his job. He should not care what players think.

  • Dan Ang

    This ↑

  • KHuang

Actually, the only thing that gets Lin playing time is when teammates ahead of him in the rotation are playing atrociously.

Lin’s minutes and role are completely unrelated to what Lin actually produces.

If Walker or Batum play well, then Lin plays less. If they struggle, then Lin’s brought in to prop them up.

  • Dan Ang

I’ve seen some pretty pick and roll plays from Batum.

  • CJSHYY

I think Cliff is a very stubborn guy & he stays w his lineup no matter what….? I also don’t think he likes Lin’s free style PG skill bc that maybe will become TO w dangerous pass. He prefers Lin just to be a CnS SG only like he asked Lance last year. That’s exactly what Lin did last night in 4Q.

  • KHuang

Lance Stephenson was NOT a catch and shoot guard.

He was the sole dribble penetrator in an unathletic and overmatched starting lineup.

Opponents regularly double and triple teamed Stephenson when he had the ball. And Walker and MKG were so bad, they could not relieve pressure off Stephenson.

I wrote before the season that for Charlotte to win, Lin would HAVE TO play the Stephenson dribble driving role with the starters from time to time. That’s because the starters cannot get it done with a lesser player than Lin at SG.

  • Dan Ang

C’mon, there’s no conspiracy. Stop reading between the lines all the time and enjoy the game.

  • 22cents

    Yes and No.
Coach wants to win. But if coaches disturbs teams’ “so called” “stars”, they will lose their jobs.

At this point, I am not very sure what Clifford is doing. It will be obvious as games goes on.

  • KHuang

This is the NBA where coaches routinely get fired for winning if they bench the superstars to do it.

  • CJSHYY

I think that’s why Lance did bad w Hornets. But Cliff just kept using him that way…. smh!

  • KHuang

Clifford likes Lin just fine at either SG or PG.

Lin is allowed to play his game.

The starters refusing to pass to Lin, that’s not on Clifford.

  • NONONO

From past 7 games, he should have known that playing Lin as SG (without FARCEing ball handlers pass ball to him when he was open ) or limiting Lin’s minutes only hurts Hornets. Clifford really wants to win, he must have known Lin could help. If he is stubborn, he wouldn’t said “we are good because we have some high IQ players.” What Lin said is some players cannot understand what the coach is talking about and have to ask Lin for help”. It was joke. But Clifford likes high IQ guy.

  • sws94

Are there really stars on this team? Kemba is a borderline all-star player. That’s about it.

In terms of marketing, Lin is probably the most popular player on the team.

  • sws94

I agree. Kemba plays PG because he doesn’t play SG. Batum doesn’t know how to swing the ball side to side and looks either on his side or inside to pass.

  • sws94

Difference is, understudies only get to perform when a performer is out for the night. Lin has a shift, a definite time he plays and at times can play with the starters.

  • sws94

He also pointed out Lin is a PnR player. Lamb really isn’t. Lamb is good at scoring and can drive and dish, but he isn’t as complete a player as Lin in. Lin and Lamb are good together, but Lin is better at closing games.

  • Maknusia

he still continue to be a non factor

  • 22cents

Yeah. However, the problem is that Lin is playing like Linsanity occasionally. His impact of defense and offense in the game is huge.

  • CJSHYY

Bc no matter it’s Hornets or Clippers, Lance is no longer a star in the team anymore.

  • sws94

Batum is fine facilitating sometimes. But I think there should be one main facilitator on the unit and Batum’s role should be secondary. I think Cliff wants Batum to facilitate a good amount of time. Lin or Kemba should when they are playing PG, Batum can help if the defenses load up on them. There were plays run for Lin last night and some of his plays were in the flow. He facilitated also. On the court with Kemba and Batum, Clifford should better utilize Lin in the offense. They should work some things out in practice.

  • KHuang

    Clifford had NO CHOICE.

Both Gerald Henderson and Lance Stephenson were loaded up on like Lin is every game, and that’s because Walker and MKG were TERRIBLE and did not need to be guarded.

This season, Clifford has two of the best young guards in the NBA in Lin and Lamb to protect Walker and Batum with.

  • KHuang

Walker, Batum, and Jefferson are the “stars” in the eyes of the franchise.

Clifford and Lin cannot go against that, no matter how poorly those guys play.

  • absolutely true. If Clifford wants to win, he’d have to rely on JLin who is better at drawing FTs & defense than JLamb.

It’s funny that JLin has to follow Harden’s way of drawing FTs to shine but that’s what it takes to win games in the NBA.

I’d say 6th Man of the Year would be a good goal for JLin so he can shine at another team next season. Or Hornets have to make a hard decision

  • NONONO

Can someone explain to me? If MJ really believe “Jeremy Lin as Hornets Biggest Acquisition'”. Would he ignore the coach’s misuse on “Biggest Acquisition”? If MJ used it as PR purpose in China, did he care about hurting all other “acquisitions”? Could it be the reason few players want to pass ball (back) to Lin even he is wide open? I do not know. Maybe it goes back to NO TRUST issue?

  • announcers can’t believe KMart was shutdown by JLin last night

  • Rzo Vlade

    stop thinking

  • sws94

He’s the owner. He watches the games and if he’s unhappy with some things it would be brought up with meetings with Cho and the coaching staff. We wouldn’t hear of what MJ had to say in those meetings.

  • Dan Cohen

They can only tell him which players to use more…so it’s the starter.
they want baum..they got him so forc him to play sg..
even if batm fails this time, the can still say because mkg is not there so batum might not do as well.

That is why nba is in a way no different from corp america. He who knows who and who gets support rises to the top regardless of skills. But the top can’t be sustain if it’s all bulls-ht. So if you are average or just above average and got the backings, you can make it in the nba by having the org trust you and dev you.

If you got da skills in programming or whatever and if the org doesn’t trust you or hinders you..only way for you to excel is to find another place/job..which means in nba terms, find another team. Obviously the org is all people so if people change and trust you you are fine.

That is why sometimes I don’t know how mda is, but he seems to just quit if the org doesn’t seem to listen to him or get his way.. I don’t know if you call it righteouness or backbones.. (speaking of that I immedaitely thought of bs; bs definitely has no backbone..his backbone is kobe).

That is also why I kept telling ppl here and there.. forget linsanity 2.0 or whatever that is. that same magical feeling will never happen again…unless like lin said..those rare situations jsut all fall together into place to give birth to linsanity.

  • CJSHYY

The first 3 games, Cliff did give Lin lots of min. around 27 I believe. But after that…. whatever behind the door… Lin played so so & his playing time got cut shorter & shorter. But I think problem solve. Lin will get his min don’t worry. He will close the game.

  • Dan Cohen

too bad.. commentators go both ways anyways. they all bias. f-k them.

Jefferson is a relic, a one-way post big man. Walker is a good point guard but not top point guard and I’m not sure what Batum is yet.

In terms of draw and star-power, Lin brings a lot of interest to Charlotte. I think he is seen as an impact rotational player. Lamb is an emerging potential star.

We’ve seen twice already Al not close games. Walker and Batum are PnR players and facilitators so they close games.

  • NONONO

After I watched these miserable games or miserable combinations, it is hard to stop wondering…

  • sws94

You are looking at just Lin maybe and want to see things that won’t happen anytime soon. So, maybe relax. Enjoy when Lin plays well on the court.

  • Dan Cohen

actually it’s true, stay and sustain in NBA is very tough.. that is the number first goal of any rookie and players.
Then you talk about being an all-star.

  • AtTheHive Notes & Observation featuring JLin’s picture

    https://twitter.com/At_The_Hive/status/664457633563344896

  • Three of Charlotte’s new additions led the way for the Hornets in Minnesota, but defense is becoming a concern.
    ..
A few things stood out from tonight’s game:

Lamb, Lin, and Batum found a groove.

The three new additions to the Hornets were a force on offense tonight, combining for 54 points with Jeremy Lin leading the way with 19 points on 6-11 shooting, Jeremy Lambwith 18 points on 8-for-10 shooting, and Nicolas Batum with 17 points on 6-for-11. That’s balanced, and highly efficient scoring, and their combined efforts were largely the difference against the Timberwolves who showed a lot of promise at times Tuesday night.

Lamb’s emergence this season has been a pleasant surprise. He’s the wing scorer off the bench the Hornets have lacked, and while he’s making a strong case to be in the starting lineup, if he continues to put up these numbers off the bench (and more importantly, the Hornets keep winning) keeping him with the second unit is probably the best move.

Through seven games, I feel confident is saying that Lin is the best backup point guard the Hornets have had in a long time. He’s dynamic as a scorer, and it showed Tuesday. With his 3-point shot not falling, Lin focused on getting to the rim, taking high percentage shots, and drawing fouls. Lamb and he fit well together in that second unit.

    What’s happened to the defense?

Tuesday’s game was weird. The Hornets had no business being up by one after the first quarter, not with how poor their transition defense and halfcourt defensive rotations were. The Timberwolves were able to score with ease for large stretches of that first quarter, and some of that carried over into other parts of the game. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist’s injury was going to take a hit to the Hornets defensively, but it doesn’t excuse the players from not stopping the ball in transition or rotation over in the haflcourt purpose. The Hornets were fortunate that their offense was clicking, otherwise it could have ended differently.

Zeller found his niche as a scorer.

The coaching staff have asked Cody Zeller to extend his range and be more consistent jump shooter. That’s very important, but the shots haven’t been falling from the outside, and Zeller hasn’t looked confident shooting them. Attacking the rim has been a different story. While Zeller has not made a shot outside of 10 feet, he is shooting 66.7 percent with shots at the rim, and showcased that tonight with a number of aggressive dunks off the dribble, and cutting to the basket. Zeller is using his athleticism as the strength it has always been, and it paid of Tuesday, as he finished with 14 points on 5-8 shooting.

  • KHuang

It doesn’t matter what those guys ARE.

It matters what the franchise THINKS.

To the Hornets, Lin is a one year rental. Nothing more.

  • Rick Johnson
  • KHuang

With the atrocious play of the starters, somebody’s out EVERY NIGHT even if they’re in the game wasting minutes!

  • cdblue10

They were stunned,Lin schooled Martin on their turf.

  • sws94

Maybe. We’ll see. Right now, they are milking him and using him so that’s what I care about. I don’t know beyond that what will happen. And I’m not sure that Batum is going to be with the team after a year either.

  • KHuang

MJ has no influence or interest in day to day coaching.

When it comes to influencing Lin’s role, MJ is as powerless as us fans!

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Clifford is not misusing anyone, he’s doing what the owner/GM wanted him to do, protecting the cornerstone.

  • Chopz

I like how u said “folded under pressure”. They don’t have ice in their veigns like mr. 4th quarter jeremy lin.

  • Chopz

I’d say most of lin fans expect that every night, whether good or bad, i dunno. Or at least we know that can happen every night if guys just all played unselfish basketball.

  • LAJane

This is exactly why Clifford has to be careful with how forcefully he pushes Lin into this team. IMHO he’s hoping to gradually let Lin’s skills loose without the rest of the team getting uncooperative and sulky. Managing anxious egos is a very delicate task.

  • CJSHYY
  • sws94

You know, what if you are a Kaminsky fan? That kid is getting no playing time while Hawes play has been questionable at best. Kaminsky isn’t getting the PT of other rookies.

MJ, Cho, everyone is looking at the entire team. They are both probably in evaluation mode. But they aren’t just looking at is Lin getting enough minutes, is he utilized right when he’s on the court with Batum and Kemba, does Batum freeze him out, etc. That’s what we look at here because we follow Lin.

So looking at MJ or Cho or anyone in the organization including Coach you have to look at the whole team and Lin as a rotational player in that team. That’s how any organization would regard him, starter or playing off of the bench. Since the team isn’t really built around him, that’s what his status is.

  • sws94

Kemba is capable of sinking big 4Q clutch shots. He just had a bad game. Of course, Lin is a solid 4Q player. He made big plays in last night’s game.

  • sws94

Great point, LA Jane. As much as they may talk team, players egos are still very much in play and sometimes delicate in any high-level competitive sport. Lin certainly had to deal with past teams.

  • sws94

I want to see him play confident, make good plays as a PG, play strong and smart defense. Some nights shots will fall and you’ll get foul calls, other nights the refs can throw you off with non-calls and bad calls. Lin gets a lot of points at the line and yesterday his mid-range shot fell, he made two especially tough mid-range shots. Those shots didn’t fall the game before. Last night Kemba’s game was out of whack, the game before he shot well. Lamb’s shots were falling last night, not in the Spurs game. That’s what I mean by how well you play. You can have the same effort and different results on offense, but you can always have the same effort and play smart on defense.

  • NONONO

I think Zeller and Hawes finally did some yesterday and good starts. I wish we could more of it them and from AL-Lin, Batum-Lin today and the rest of season.

  • Rick Johnson

Now LA media starts getting upset when D’Angelo Russell starts getting the Byron Scott Jeremy Lin treatment.

    https://twitter.com/BaxterHolmes/status/664287821654437888?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

This quote alone is infuriating, and it isn’t isolated. Russell consistently in postgame interviews has claimed responsibility by saying the onus is on him to figure out what he needs to do to get on the court in the fourth quarter, but that he has no idea what Byron wants from him in order to do that. This is where it goes beyond bad coaching — this is bad leadership. Not being on the same page as your uber-talented rookie is inexcusable, let alone clearly leaving him frustrated and in the dark as to what you want from him. This is not putting Russell in the best position to succeed.

If Byron Scott is going to remain the head coach of the Lakers, his next order of business has to be sitting down with Russell and clearing the air, including giving him a clearer picture of what he expects out of him, and detailing what he is planning to do in order to help him achieve those goals.

Frankly, though, he shouldn’t even be given the chance. This is clearly not the coach you want developing and leading the young core of the Lakers. Relieve Byron Scott of his coaching duties before his decisions have significant and long-lasting detrimental effects, if they haven’t already.

It’s time to move on, Lakers.

Lin fans need to stop panicking. It is only 7 games into the season. Lin needs to find his niche like he did with his previous teams. Also don’t miss what Clifford is saying an doing. He heaped a lot of praise on the 2nd unit, which I think is his preference of choice because he knows how good they can be. Lin needs to figure out how to lead this 2nd unit in the mist of the politics. Also look at Charlotte/Hornets press. Their focus still favor lin positively and now they are giving lamb his shine.Let’s not forget that lin doesn’t have a $25 million dollar contract in which the organization has to justify his playing time. The reason I respect lin so much is he recognizes that the negatives that come against him are nothing more than opportunity for lin to excel at his craft.

Man I hate those hornets. My wife got stung three time this summer working in the yard.
    LOL Lin’s hair…
    Lin is goku
    GAhhhhhhhh Bjelica…why
Resting Rubio and Wiggins is one thing, but I don’t know why we have to go full B squad. If we win this Charlotte should be embarrassed.
If the Hornets don’t win this game by double digits, something is wrong with them.
Man, T-wolves is going to bring back linsanity.
Tyus is so bad on defense…
    Linsanity is back lol
Can someone please slap Lin? Seriously, what *** is wrong with his hair?
IDK, but he’s slapping us for sure.
The slapping must be done by Payne, so that Lin doesn’t get up until tomorrow 🙂
you don’t like his hair? I like it – it’s so pointy
I’m kinda glad Ricky is not playing. With his bad luck regarding injuries, Lin could’ve blinded him.
Wow. Lin with that silly haircut is trolling us.

    I hate lin’s guts
HOW IS THAT AN OFFENSIVE FOUL
I really don’t care about the hair anymore. Just slap the **** out of Lin.
Can still win this, just gotta stop the dribble penetration an dmake them shoot perimeter shots
I think Linsanity is a pretty cool guy. Eh kills wolves and doesnt afraid of anything.
    What’s in your cup?
    This game is probably over.
One mistake Mitchell made was not pushing LaVine harder to guard his man better. He should have pushed up on his man the entire game like the last few minutes and cut him off laterally. Don’t know what the **** they were doing doubling al or letting Lamb/Lin/Walker have all that room to work with.
It’s going to take LaVine a good year for everything to slow down on offense. Mitchell needs to stress that the only way LaVine is going to get playing time is by succeeding on defense.
    Looser mentality.
    Looser than what?

    NEXT DAY
LaVine is playing PG because neither Miller nor Jones give us a fighting chance defending the other teams’ backup PG.
And last night, Lin and Lamb ate up Jones and Miller.
The problem with jones and miller is on defense. Offensively they are fine running plays but there was absolutely no way they could even stay in front of lin or walker for a second. That is where is think Lavine has a huge advantage over those two, hes just gotta trust his body more and spend his energy shadowing these quick ball handlers

BS seemed to be really want to win now bc he maybe will be fired…. that’s why he didn’t want to put Russell in 4Q.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Where’s MJohnson? The one pushing GM/Owners to hire this piece of…..

Kobe might be untouchable but he’s also part of BS problem too.

  • NONONO

Look like Lin’s new hairstyle is effective defense weapon.

  • NONONO

It was not that hard until Batum played as PG.

  • Dan Cohen

it’s better than when it’s no gel..
no gel makes him look like a fob… which might make him get hit even more by nba players because it looks like he doesnt fit into USA..and the refs will just be blind to certain hits even more.
With this hair cut in gelform.. it’s like there is swagger.. like that birdman in the bulls.

That is one of his reason for making that ‘fitting in nba’ vid.

  • NONONO

You cannot put yourself under .500 to make the schedule seems challenging.

  • NONONO

No. That hair could confuse, imitate, upset or annoy his opponents. Good for marketing too.

  • Dan Cohen

so how much you want to bet when lin ever comes back alive as in crazy linsanity numbers, there will ‘custom hats hairs’ that will feature his black hair style so people can put it on to root for him.. just like beard has fear the beard.. you have fear the spike.

  • Dan Cohen

as in people dress a beard for harden, you have have ppl wear the spike mohawk for lin.

  • wandertheglobe

Actually, Kobe’s not playing giving them a better chance.

  • Barry Allen

If they wanted to tank, they would play Kobe more.

  • Rzo Vlade

    woooot!!!!!!!

  • very well said, Joyce!

As a $2M 1 yr-rental backup PG, Lin would certainly have to bring his A game to repeatedly show why the Hornets need him to win. He knows exactly what he needs to do. Last night he showed them he can lead 2nd unit and bail out the 1st unit

  • Barry Allen

I think they absolutely can, but they have to be smart about it.

  • Barry Allen

This is true, but Lin was almost cut in New York before Linsanity broke out. You never know I guess.

  • adele

Patrick Beverley Arrested for Traffic Violation: Latest Details and Reaction

According to Reid Laymance of the Houston Chronicle, Beverley was cited for “Operating a Motor Vehicle on Toll Road When Prohibited” but had failed to pay his fine. He was stopped Wednesday morning, arrested on the scene and taken to a police station, where he paid the fine.

    Police subsequently released him.

The 27-year-old guard missed Wednesday’s shootaround while dealing with the issue. Beverley, who is averaging 6.0 points and 3.8 assists this season, is also currently dealing with a concussion suffered last week. He returned to practice Tuesday.

Did they talk about other players from Hornets?

  • LAJane

From the Charlotte Observer, comments by Clifford about Lin, and about the bench: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nba/charlotte-hornets/article44216637.html

“Lamb, the sweet-shooting guard-forward who recently signed a 3-year, $21 million contract extension, scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half. He wants a strong bench and believes starting his top five offensive players would only serve to clutter, with so many players needing the ball at once.”
    ……….
“Clifford is coaching this team by feel and not holding particular obligation to when he must use certain players. He sat Jefferson down the stretch for the second time this season. While Lamb played very well in the first half, Clifford was convinced the defense and ballhandling Lin provided gave the Hornets their best chance in this particular matchup. “I kept looking in the fourth quarter (for a way to reinsert Lamb) but Jeremy Lin was really the one who did the best job on Kevin Martin,” Clifford said.”

Rondo stats for this game. 8pts/12asts/9TO w 48 min?! Crazy, George Karl!!!

  • CJSHYY

This guy sure favor Lamb. His ranking is Lamb, Batum then Lin…?! smh!

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Cousins and Rondo are different kind of cancer Karl has to deal with. Poor guy.

  • Rzo Vlade

thats why I said hornets are trash from the very beginning

  • takemeback2reaganyears

It doesn’t bother me anymore. I’m used to this kind of expert.

Batum is not even good to me. But anyway, this writer is sure favor long team players… even Batum is not sign w Hornets yet but …

  • CJSHYY

He put Lin’s picture for click… smh! Why not put his #1 Lamb’s picture? smh!

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Sorry don’t know how to help. Not good in IT.

  • LAJane

Oh I know…grrr. But…we’re LIN fans, and they’re Hornets fans who haven’t followed him and are still learning. I mean, look at the quote that starts the paragraph: “Lin’s signing was greeted with either excitement or dread.” The one’s who dread are the ones whose only Lin-diet was media bad-mouth junk food, and who were already annoyed by our rabid fandom. They’re gonna be like this until much later in the season, at the earliest.

  • Rzo Vlade

my advice is never support any media outside hornets org they tend to be bias they are trash mod should remove any atthehive links from here or any article from them

  • LAJane

Awww…it’s not the Hornets that are trash, it’s the know-it-all (as if!) media who are trash.

  • Rzo Vlade

yes they are…. thats why they are bottom feeder

  • CJSHYY

It’s funny only Lin’s fans RT for him? Never mind. NO one really read it from Hornets fans.

  • Rzo Vlade

stop RT those tweet they are using jlin fans they are trash never support this atthehive buffon

  • sws94

He can rank any way he likes but I didn’t like the comment on his defense. He needs a better commitment to defense, but he plays defense better than any other guard on the team by far.

  • CJSHYY
  • CJSHYY

Just forget about it. They have so many different writers. I never read their web. Bc it will not make any different what they said about this team or players on court.

  • 22cents

“His defensive can still be considered a liability by some, but his offensive numbers early in the season make up for it.”…….
    Did this guy see games?

  • LAJane

or pay attention to Cliffords praise of his defense. Have to stop shaking my head…getting a headache 🙂

  • CJSHYY

Don’t click for him. Just forget about it.

They find his popularity annoying, but they’re happy to steal it for their own click-bait garbage.

mod I rhink its time to stop following any media org outside of hornets management…….they are using jlin and the fans for their own while writing some backhanded article writing some good and then exagerating faults without watching the game…….these media pretending buffon should be blacklisted by jlin fans stop retweet and stop rt and following this atthehive from the very beginning had been writing backhanded article from the very start …………we should remove any connection with them

  • CJSHYY

I think Lamb will start if PJ can’t play today bc he did in 3Q yesterday.

  • They desperately need to start Lamb!

Let’s see how many times Batum and Kemba will pass to Lamb

  • blubell

Sorry guys, I posted before I read the whole article 🙁

  • I really hope so

  • CJSHYY

Me too. Lin w starters just can’t get any ball…I care more about his stats than he starts or not now.

  • It’s okay. Some AtTheHive writers are high on JLin; some are not.

Russel Varner happens to be not

  • LAJane

I’ve come back to read the quote you capitalized several times now. It’s just exceptionally level-headed and mature. Really clear – and STRONG – about focusing on HIS OWN GOAL. This is a guy you don’t have to worry about, whatever the ups and downs. Reliable, secure. Not the football of other peoples’ perceptions.

  • I’m curious to see what JLamb stats with & without JLin last night

  • blubell

They are hit or miss. But it seems Russel Varner’s articles are usually a miss.

  • blubell

Hairston might be done. He pretty much disappeared after the Hornets announced that they’re not interested in him.

  • LAJane

    🙂

  • CJSHYY

I don’t think Lamb got that many balls compare he played w Lin. Let Cliff to start him today…

  • NONONO

    Would it piss MJ off?

  • orLinaryjoe

    Anybody post this:

“The Hornets continue to relish in the play of bench spark plug Jeremy Lin and the new $21 million dollar man Jeremy Lamb. Lin only shot 1-5 from three but attacked the basket and hit a variety of floaters, layups, and jumpers to score 19 points for the Hornets. Lamb also chipped in 18 points along with four rebounds to continue his great play. Lamb is averaging almost 15 points in the last four games. PJ Hairston continues to start and I believe that will soon be a thing of the past. This Hornets’ new offense may not be just a trend, and hopefully the teams mediocre defense is.”

    http://www.atthehive.com/2015/11/11/9710896/charlotte-hornets-new-york-knicks-how-to-watch

  • Acbc

Lin’s really perceptive in how he lets these little nuances out. Like bible verse and this interview. In a nice way, he’s letting us know to get off his back and to stop harassing his teammates.

  • Acbc

He gets mugged, tackled and cloths hanged and no calls are made. I still remember the no call against Lin when Lilliard dove across Lin’s body to get at the ball at the end of the playoffs. That was a tackle if I ever swag one.

  • LAJane

Can’t help myself…LOL. I’m surely way too polite for this generation, or the interwebs where pretty much anything goes. But then somebody on this site always lets the dogs out for me. Y’all are really entertaining 🙂

  • CJSHYY

Maybe they just want to use this chance to start Lamb to see what will happen if good Lamb will move up?

  • Rick Johnson

Zeller looks good with Lin and they’re impressed with Zeller and put him with the starters. Then he regresses to his average.
Lamb look good with Lin and they’re excited and then put Lamb in to start then he will regress.
Next they will put Daniels in with Lin and he will impress.

They keep overlooking that it’s Lin who’s making them look good.

Hawes though, I don’t know. Even with Lin he doesn’t look so great. Reminds me of a Jordan Hill. Big that just stands there waiting to take a long 2 or 3.

  • or intentional miss
no mention on JLamb’s defense causing Clifford not to close Q4 with him but questioning JLin’s defensive?

He’s on the Lamb bandwagon as the next great steal based only on his hot-shooting.
So it’s definitely very subjective to exclude some facts

  • CJSHYY

Hawes looks bad but Cliff likes him that’s all matter… smh!

PJ Hairston has CEMENTED his role as starter.

He has produced poorly enough to fit in with the starters who keep getting beaten down.

  • KHuang

    Agree.

Besides, PJ Hairston is not going to produce any more without a migraine than with one.

  • wu kong

If PJ is out who should start in his place??? hmmm just going to leave this chart here and walk away slowly….

At least Jordan Hill played defense and eventually learned to cut just aggressively enough to free up Lin in the midrange.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    Disagree.

It’s amusing and entertaining and educational to see other perspectives of the same games we’re watching.

Would not call it cement. More like duct tape. Or the stamps that kept falling off George’s wedding invite on the Seinfeld show. Which also killed his fiancee.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Lamb. From what I read/heard, my take is Cliff doesn’t want all the players in Unit 1 to be ball demanding. That’s why he placed JLin and JLamb in the bench to split out all the weapons. I’m ok as Kemba/Al/Batum are the main options. If JLin plays in first unit, he will be the 4th/5th option. If he plays in second unit, at least he is the first/second option.

  • NONONO

I heard IP change would make it work. any idea?

  • KHuang

Glad Lin doesn’t have to put up with this guy.

Ironically, Cousins and Lin probably get along well.

They were in a summer offseason workout together two seasons ago with other NBA players at UCLA.

  • new NYK Game Thread is open
    http://www.jlinportal.com/g8-nyk-cha-game-thread/
    G8 NYK @CHA Game Thread

Jeremy Lin finally had his 1st Hairsanity game with 19pts/3ast/1r in 27 min (6-11 shooting, 6-8 FT, 1-5 3pt shooting with 1 fouled resulting in 3FTs)
Coach Clifford chose to close with JLin due to his superb defense on Kevin Martin who was completely shut down with 4TOs.
Credit Coach Clifford for recognizing and praising JLin’s shutdown defense.

More importantly, he played JLin non-stop during crunch-time for 16:35 (4:35 left in Q3 and the whole 4th quarter) to produce a big Win.
He admitted looking for opportunity to insert the hot-shooting JLamb 8-10 with 18pts but decided against it.

So defense and aggressive shooting will be JLin’s calling card to earn Playing Time.

Will a determined JLin continue his strong game in the 2nd night of back-to-back game vs the Knicks?
The Knicks surprisingly won against the Raptors so they can be a dangerous team.

Let’s hope JLin continues to regain his shooting touch (esp. 3pt shooting) back and be the most lethal scorer by repeatedly going to the FT line.

    Let’s go, JLin!

  • KHuang

    Sounds great!
