Game 61 Orlando Magic vs Toronto Raptors: JLin Helps the Raptors Mentality to Figure Out Ways to Win
Coach Nick Nurse received his first ejection due to 2 technical fouls protesting the referees’ calls in the Raptors 120-117 win over the Spurs. In the post-game interview, Coach Nurse likes that the Raptors are figuring out ways to win even with a little rust after the All-Star Break with Kahwi shooting 8-23 and Marc Gasol being out-of-whack (2-7 shooting, 4 points, 6 assists, 7 rebounds but in foul trouble with 5 personal fouls).
Coach Nurse on Jeremy and Others in the Raptors Resilient Mentality on Figuring Out Ways to Win
“And Jeremy had a good little stretch in the fourth quarter. But I thought he could have played. Norm could have played. There are some guys who could have played. It is encouraging when you’re figuring out a way to win. And maybe there’s a time where there is a bit more time of clicking in”
Coach Nurse praised Jeremy’s 9-point outburst in the 4th quarter and commented he could have played. It was unclear if Coach Nurse referred to the possibility of Jeremy helping to close the 4th quarter because he subbed out with 2:36 left after playing 10 minute straight from the end of the third quarter. He briefly was inserted with 1.1 seconds left with Toronto leading 118-117 for offensive purpose in case the Raptors got fouled and needs to hit free throws.Lin finished with 11 points, 2 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal in 19 minutes
Answering the question of Raptors Resilient Mentality, Coach Nurse elaborated more on the mentality to figure out ways to win, “The other night we took out Danny and Norm and we put in McCaw and Lin, then boom the game switches. So either a tactic or a personnel, somebody finds something, and we hang in pretty well”
On Friday night, the Raptors topped San Antonio 120-117 in Toronto. Kawhi Leonard scored the go-ahead points against his former team on a dunk after a steal with 15 seconds remaining and added two free throws in the final second to finish with a game-high 25 points, 19 in the second half.
“I think we act like we’re expecting to figure out a way to win a lot lately,” said Raptors coach Nick Nurse, who was ejected in the third quarter after receiving two technical fouls. “I like that about us and the other thing is, we have some guys that can play a little bit better, right? A little rust, a little whatever All-Star break, but you know that Kawhi’s 8-for 23 is not a normal night and Marc Gasolwas just out of whack.”
Danny Green’s Estimate of the Time for Marc Gasol and Jeremy Lin to Acclimate to the Raptors System
In a separate interview, Danny Green was asked about the Raptors’s title hopes and how much time Marc Gasol and Jeremy Lin are expected to acclimate to the Raptors system:
➡️ we have to jell & execute. The biggest things are our maturity+ discipline, which Gasol & JLin will help
➡️ With Marc and J-Lin, it’ll probably take them two weeks to learn all the plays and then probably just another week or two to get to the point where they know everything like the back of their hand and know where everybody’s at.
