G50 MIA @CHA Game Thread

This will be a tough game against the surging Miami Heat who have won five of their last six games, including victories in four of five away from home.

  1. If Kemba is back with the starter, would that affect JLin’s role as the primary PG when he comes in?
  2. Kemba and Batum haven’t been able to provide a good playmaking for their teammates lately so what will Clifford do if the starters struggle to play teamball?
  3. Would JLin’s effectiveness be impacted by coming off the bench again since he would need to defer to Kemba as the main PG?

Let’s go, JLin! Let’s pray and hope that he manages to be 100% healthy soon before  to help the Hornets to win

At half-time tonight, the Hornets will honor Alonzo Mourning for his career as a Hornet.

Mourning, a member of the Naismith Hall of Fame, was selected by the Hornets with the second overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft. He spent three seasons in Charlotte (1992-95), appearing in 215 games with averages of 21.3 points, 10.1 rebounds and 3.2 blocks in 35.2 minutes.

He is the all-time leader in Charlotte NBA history in both blocks (684) and blocks per game (3.2), while ranking second in points per game (21.3) and rebounds per game (10.1).

Just told by my friend in Taiwan, huge earthquake in south Taiwan about 15 min ago. Hope no one is hurt.

  • Acbc

Wonder if it’s related to the Japanese volcano eruption.

Thanks for the info. I’ve been in larger ones but the earth didn’t moved like that!

Hope people stay safe there. No reported casualties yet according to news

  • he’s about to go on vacation. Hope he and the whole family stay safe

  • Kemba is now probable vs the Heat
Previously, it was questionable. That’s a downgrade or upgrade?

    https://twitter.com/rick_bonnell/status/695715710077538304

  • JustSayNo2HardensIso

I thought he said he was playing! If he doesn’t play tonight then there must be something going on behind the scenes.
When questioned about him not playing in the last game, I thought it was odd when he told the reporters that he was ready to play but it was the “Coach” and “trainers” who thought he should rest his knee.

  • GameWatcher

It’s to remove any doubt that the trade rumor is just a bunch of BS.

  • I read probable is 75% but questionable is 50% so it’s an upgrade then.

Let’s see how it plays out

  • In either case of rumor or not, it’s probably best to only play Kemba close to 100%.
Knee injury can be very tricky

  • Spot

    OMG!!!

    Please answer us !

  • Linzen

Yeah, pray that everybody is safe in Taiwan. The picture is pretty scary…

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Yes have seen another worst pic — building collapsed. Pray that not severe injuries or deaths from this earthquake.

  • CJSHYY

    I think Kemba will play.

  • Linzen

The Ballstreams server is down!!! 😱
Is it the same for you… whoever is also using ballstreams?

    Use batmanstream.com & nba-stream.com.

  • cdblue10

Brent you need to post something.

  • yes, it’s currently down.
Many subscribers are awaiting anxiously at reddit
Hope it will go back up soon

  • thanks.. or goatd.net as listed above

  • Dorothy

It depends on where he lives. If he is at northern or central Taiwan, he probably is still sound sleep at 5:56am.

  • CJSHYY
  • JLin Fan from Australia

Live coverage on Taiwan earthquake (in Mandarin)

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Believe Brent himself lives in Taipei but due to CNY, he starts to have his 9 days CNY holiday today. Believe his original family lives in more middle/southern part of Taiwan. Can’t remember where. Hopefully he hasn’t returned there for CNY celebration.

  • That’s a super interesting choice of using Kemba’s picture between Monroe & MCW.
    Plus Zeller in the back.

Do they know something that we don’t? It’s either subliminal message or stirring up the pot of rumor being out there

  • Spot

    Wow!

  • Spot

    Just a casualty anyway.

I’ve been reading the article, there’s nothing about it.

  • Dorothy

    mmmmm
Hope it is because he is traveling and not time to log on

  • CJSHYY

If I am MJ, I will trade Kemba (since his market value is high right now no matter Lin will be w Horents or not) for good Center. Bc there are lots of PGs out there & Kemba just can’t match up even he’s good stats.

  • CJSHYY
  • LinMad

    how big was it?

  • LinMad

holy cow…6.4 magnitude can do that?

  • Dorothy

    🙁

  • Spot

    …………. I can’t answer you

  • yellowshadow

Walker cut off a reporter’s question at Friday’s practice when asked if he will sit out the final four games before the All-Star break.

“No,” he said. “No. I mean, no. No.”

  • If he plays team-ball like the last 2 games before the Cavs win, Hornets has a chance

  • Dorothy

    6.4 i believe

  • yellowshadow

MCW makes lillard look like michael jordan. what a gap between two PGs who have gotten rookie of the year award.

  • Spot

Hopefully he’s not jealous of all the attention Jeremy got in his last game.

Looks like he feels the pressure for some reason.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Because it was a very shallow earthquake, basically right below Tainan. It was quite similar to Christchurch earthquake in a sense.

  • Spot

This is the game Kemba and Jeremy should start together cause Dragic and Wade aren’t tall.

But that means Batum or MKG would not start. So the one who is unselfish will come out of the bench.

  • Uh-Oh

    Grandpapa is doing fine.

  • sws94

Spot, he just wants to play. He wanted to play every game this year. I think you’re reading stuff into it that likely isn’t there.

  • Spot

    Probably you’re right.

  • Dorothy

Definitely, he is just a human being

  • joyce ward

I wonder will Cliff pull Walker if he’s not playing Team ball? LOL

  • Spot

If he scores 50 again we win ! =)

  • Uh-Oh

    This time you succeed! Congratulation!

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Let’s wait and see. Honestly I have no expectation of Cliff anymore. He proved to me too many times of a similar coach to KM and BS but much better in interviews. His coaching is so “weird” at times. Have no idea what he will do on players’ play time and how he uses players.

  • MEL LIN

    35 mins more

  • MEL LIN

would be nice if KW was not playing.

  • KHuang

    No they don’t.

  • KHuang

With Kemba hogging the ball, it doesn’t matter whether Lin starts or not.

    FREEZOUT.

  • KHuang

    No way.

Clifford thinks that Kemba Walker’s low efficiency isoball is the greatest thing ever.

  • Spot

He had the guts to bench Kemba some games ago.

You know I’ve been super critical about Clifford but words he said about Jeremy after the Cavs’ game… I think I shoud eat my words

  • Spot

I’m no more convinced about that. Let’s wait and see.

  • Spot

Unfortunately I must agree. If only he shared the ball…

  • TTNN

not sure whether that was bench Kemba or just Kemba is not 100% and could not play. He did had knee problem.

  • TTNN

I don’t think so. i think it is that cliff can do nothing about it.

  • TTNN

come on, he is in NBA, every player had that insecurity feeling, if you sit too long, you might lost your position……

    I think that’s natural.

  • TTNN

I really wish this team to win and get back to play off chase.

I hope Lin will get back to that BF1 mode, and dig those starters out again.

  • sws94

But why guess that? I mean, how many big games has Kemba had and have his name all over the place compared to Lin this season? It’s not always about Lin.

  • sws94

    Let’s see what happens.

  • NONONO

Lin said he is happier than when he was in Rockets and Lakers. You can tell it he smiles more on and off the court. Many people think Lin would be satisfied as backup player. What do you think? I never heard Lin said something like I am satisfied or happy as backup player. Did you?

  • Spot

We will see. He added Roberts was playing so good though.

  • Dorothy

no, he is happier because he made peace with himself even he has to backup someone inferior than him or not used to his strength. He has gone through so much and is more mature about life that is why he smiles more.

  • John Focker

    Haters wanting to be right.

  • NONONO

Lin’s stats as starting player ( 11 games, although only one game as real pg) is ranked in top 20 guards of the league. As Lin fan, I am happy and wait for next season. Who cares how much mess Clifford wants to make by keeping Lin away from the pg role.

  • Wasn’t he quoted recently saying that all players want to start?

For me, it’s simple. He enjoys his low-key Hornets teammates more than in Lakers and Rockets but he still wants to start when given the opportunities.

I don’t understand when Hornets and Lin fans said he’s happy so he wants to stay as a backup.
He can be happy playing his style of basketball with good teammates but he’ll be happier when he starts =)

    Nothing wrong with that

  • John Focker

If Kemba scores 50 it means Hornets lose in 2OT.

  • Parent of Lots of Kids

If there’s one thing I’ve witnessed in JLin’s crazy basketball journey that he’s on with the God that he puts his trust in is that the journey plays out in ways that we cannot imagine, in ways that are more creative than we can put together.

God loves Kemba. God loves JLin. JLin loves Kemba and the God who loves Kemba. This journey of theirs will work out and in fact is working out.

I pray for them and the team. I love the team’s low profile amongst the national media. I would LOVE to see a Hornetsanity (with Lin on the team) more than just Linsanity.

  • NONONO

Right. I don’t even think money can diminish Lin’s motivation be as starter.

  • DX

Anyone know why Lin stop using Mohawk hair? NBA forbidden?

  • travis

guys im thinking about buying a team pass, on nba.com which is basically league pass only for the hornets. do you think jeremy has any chance of getting traded, bc if he does this would be a waste of money for me.

  • NONONO

i guess it is too long to hold it up. He has promised not to cut the hair.

  • DX

I see, so Lin is staying current style.

  • Parent of Lots of Kids

Can you change the team along the way?

  • Yascar

I think the debate is more will he choose a starting job in another team where there are more unknowns (for the sake of argument a team that appears to be less competitive than Hornets) or will his happiness now and the fact that the Hornets are at least fighting for the playoffs outweigh all that? I’m not sure a lot of people doubt he wants to be a starter, but what does he give up for that privilege? Tbh that’s the real question not whether he wants to be a starter or not.

  • DX

Don’t know how much right now? I am pretty happy with the free streaming, also works fine on my cell.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Nop. It was because JLin has run out of gel. He may go back to Mohawk hair soon.

  • NONONO

too little to watch Lin when Kemba is playing . Get a free one

  • travis

im not sure i sent the nba league pass contact an email about it

  • travis

its 59.99 for rest of season, to me it would be worth it even if he plays 6th man rest of the year

  • travis

where can i get a free one?

  • Dorothy

yep, he said he will go back to Mohawk for CNY

  • NONONO

See the links on the top

  • orLinaryjoe

    MKG! Whoot!

  • orLinaryjoe

Kemba to Cody & fouled! A pass!

  • DX

$60 is not bad especially if hornets makes the playoff.

  • LinMad

Look at all the Taiwanese adverts lol

  • I am The Jason

Lin starting was fun while it lasted.

  • As long as JLin hasn’t changed his dreams of becoming starter, All-Star, winning NBA championships, I would trust that he hasn’t changed.

When he declined the chance to be a backup for GSW, that meant something.
It means he believes he’ll get a lot more PT as a Hornets to improve his chance to become a starter somewhere next season.

And he also didn’t pursue being a Mavs starter so having a coach to believe in him was certainly a huge part. Not just being starter/reserve.

  • LinMad

Kemba looks like he’s trying to play more team ball.

  • Alain Gervais

Its a one year deal so he will leave if he gets a better option

  • JLin Fan from Australia

WOW Kemba literally walked back after he had a turnover. How many times have I seen this?

  • John Focker

Kemba stat sheet got robbed, he lost the ball early on but didn’t get a TO and just got the ball stolen. He should have 2 TOs now.

  • grover chang

Team ball or I so so far?

  • Alain Gervais

Marvin williams is making shots he usually don’t make

  • LinMad

Nice block Batum and MKG with the strong layup.

  • it’s the great ball movement, I think

  • Hornets is playing a great team-ball to lead 23-16

  • LinMad

    Lin just came in.

  • grover chang

Looks like team ball. But just started watching. Very encouraging.

  • Alain Gervais

yea. hopefully it last this time

  • with 4:08 left in Q1
    Not too bad

  • John Focker

Lin set the tone with win over Cavs, Kemba feels the heat and the turning tide…or tidal wave.

  • LinMad

Lin set the example last game. Just need to play that way the rest of the season.

  • grover chang

Honestly, walker seemed to share the ball a couple games before his injury.

  • Zeller got blocked twice by Whiteside

Heat is a great blocking team, gotta be careful

  • grover chang

    Lin playing iso ball

  • Alain Gervais

    Why is whiteside not starting

  • LinMad

they look lost out there. This unit is not moving well.

  • Alain Gervais

HE gets the ball twice with the clock running down.

  • LinMad

ya no one is attacking but Lin. They also need to move off the ball more.

  • Whiteside had 3 blocks so they need to solve him

  • LinMad

    Batum got his touch back

  • Everytime Batum shoots, I go “Nooooo… yes, he made it!”

  • Batum getting hot

  • LinMad

    2 FTs

  • Great block by Lin on Udrih

  • LinMad

Lin needs MKG for PnR action.

  • Alain Gervais

Whiteside had 3 blocks in 4 minutes

  • “Smart move by Lin ..( to draw foul on Green)”

  • LinMad

    he has long arms

  • Alain Gervais

    Lamb minutes are disappearing

  • cshot

just tuned in. hows lin doing and is he getting he ball lol?

  • LinMad

BROB too. Maybe Cliff will let Lin be PG more now.

  • Hope

I think the rumor is true.

  • Alain Gervais

BRob is not suppose to play much

  • NONONO

    2/1/1 in 4 mins. Nice.

  • LinMad

Ya he’s getting more than usual. BROB not in the way. Batum seems to respect Lin at PG now. Seems to look to pass it to Lin more and sticking to shooting instead.

  • Rick Johnson

    What makes you think so?

  • cshot

    thank god

  • After Heat made 7-0 run, Clifford took a timeout then Hornets made 7-2 run to close Q1

What’s the adjustment? Better D and avoid attacking the rim due to Whiteside?

  • LinMad

    i hope so

  • NONONO

Lin and pj has not played together well this season

  • I am The Jason

What rumor??? Did I miss something?

  • LinMad

That’s exactly why we need MKG lol bigs can’t get rebound

  • Hornets bigs don’t play big :]

  • LinMad

that’s just sad, we couldn’t even get the rebound there

  • Alain Gervais

Why is hawes trying to run a fast break

  • LinMad

seriously, 2nd time he did that instead of passing to Lin.

  • sws94

    Need MKG in there.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Seem like every player but JLin is pg in second unit.

  • If Hornets big fought for rebounds, Bosh wouldn’t have gotten the tip-in

  • Alain Gervais

    This unit is so selfish

  • Rick Johnson

BF1 not playing with their usual energy.

  • LinMad

This unit looks very selfish. Lin has not touched the ball in awhile. Everyone trying to do things outside their roles.

  • Alain Gervais

Lamb get the ball he shoots. Hates running fast break. Kaminsky post up over and over. Did we not learn nothing from last game

  • John Focker

Great, first Hawes trying to dribble up and now Lamb the PG.

  • NONONO

He likes to be pg too

  • Rick Johnson

Lamb just seems to want to go ISO. No ball movement.

  • yup, the ball don’t move around much

  • cshot

snap out of it lamb and hawes. ur not pg

  • LinMad

Hawes running with the ball = facepalm. Give it to Lin. He’s the PG.

  • Alain Gervais

He isn’t playing much so yea

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Hawkes is pg when he gets the rebounds.

  • travis

The Jeremy Lin effect : anyone can play point guard

  • the ball didn’t touch any other Hornets player in that possession.
That’s bad. MIA Fastbreak and got fouled.

    Baaaaad Lamb

  • LinMad

he’s superman when he gets a rebound cause its rare for him.

  • Rick Johnson

They THINK they can play PG

  • heart

Everyone wants to take over to shine and not letting Lin set them up for easy basket.

  • John Focker

Cliff needs to at least slap him on the wrist…or just slap him.

  • LinMad

nah, more like coaching mistake. Coach should have made it clear that Lin is the PG. Not BROB or Batum. Now you get guys doing their own PG when neither are on court.

  • NONONO

Lin and MKG can play well together , but MKG has to be full time to cover for Kemba

  • CJSHYY

Always like that after Lin had good game….. smh!

  • This is the time Clifford needs to tell the 2nd unit: “Look, move the ball around, find good shots!”

“Yeah, that means you .. Lamb”

  • Briiick

Exactly ! MDA won’t make such a mistake.

  • John Focker

There you go Lamb, let Lin set you up. Learn Lamb, learn!

  • LinMad

this looks bad, bring in MKG.

  • travis

Hawes is awful looks like he’s chasing assists refuses to swing and reverse the ball

  • Briiick

Fruit-picking time comes after a big victory for everybody. It’s Cliff’s fault showing that he didn’t quite get why they won.

  • Alain Gervais

Lins about about to come out

  • grover chang

Lin makes a play. Opposing coach calls a time out. What?!

  • LinMad

    Lin to Lamb. Great pass.

  • Alain Gervais

    Thats was the heat

  • sws94

That’s more like it. Lamb will come out for MKG I think.

  • cshot

    leggo

  • Alain Gervais

This game is so frustrating compared to last game

  • travis

Kemba playing solid, looks like he’s trying to compete with lin for minutes now not just free reign to do anything he wants

  • Alain Gervais

    Lin for datum

  • Lamb-Lin-Lamb for the dunk.
    Nice one!

  • Alain Gervais

10 minutes for Lin. id say 21 minutes for Lin the whole game.

  • grover chang

    I like the new walker.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Don’t think we are going to see JLin until end of 3rd qtr. Off now and do my own tasks:-)

  • sws94

    Nah, he’ll get more.

  • LinMad

why must Lin be stuck with Hawes and Frank. 2 bigs that aren’t really bigs on the team.

  • Alain Gervais

    24

  • grover chang

Is it heat defense or hornets just off. Can’t seem to get any flow in this game.

  • Alain Gervais

    smart

  • sws94

    I don’t know. We’ll see.

  • grover chang

    Nice block. Batum

  • Alain Gervais

    goaltending

  • Alain Gervais

    Hornets getting beneficial calls

  • sws94

    I thought so too.

  • Alain Gervais

    Lamb took 6 shots already

  • Alain Gervais

    in 6 minutes

  • not enough ball movement

  • NONONO

It is okey. Take a break and let Kemba shine.

  • DX

    Agreed.

  • LinMad

    good passes

  • Nice 1-2 between Batum and Kemba resulting in wide-open Kemba 3
    43-42

  • Alain Gervais

    dam wade

  • sws94

    Vintage Wade there.

  • No Silence of the Lamb tonight lol

  • LinMad

    MJ not here today?

  • Alain Gervais

    not every game.

  • Alain Gervais

Im betting Lin don’t finish the game. Ive learn people are very stubborn about Lin. The have to fail several times before they learn their lesson

  • John Focker

He found out that Walker returned to start.

  • NONONO

MKG layup is much reliable than Lamb

  • LinMad

too bad coach isn’t playing MKG with Lin.

  • sws94

Maybe not due to the height of Green. But, we’ll see.

  • sport

No they rather fail then let Lin be the starter and star of the team. This is exactly why Lin will not stay and reuniting with MDA is the only way! Good thing I’m not watch this game cause I knew exactly what will happen. When Batuma nd Walker are both playing Lin is benched, doesn’t play PG with low minutes.

  • sws94

Lin and MKG need to play together. Batum said the team needs to quicken the pace.

  • grover chang

I don’t think they need Lin to finish this game.

  • NONONO

MKG knows Lin will find him as long as he is open, MKG can really run to open.

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Hassan Whiteside playing with Miami second unit will limit Jeremy’s drive to the basket…If it wasn’t for this, Lin probably would had been a bit more aggressive driving to the hole.

  • grover chang

Don’t mind that if they play Lin and Tyler.

  • sws94

Big difference in 1st versus 2nd quarter. But Lin didn’t have a good unit. PJ on his unit isn’t good.

  • It’s hard being a backup PG; too many players went off-script and just take their number without waiting for the play to develop.

But it is what it is; hope Clifford disciplines those players who waste posessions

  • sws94

Yep. Lin missed his one open look. Otherwise, he was ok. He got the foul on Green and had the nice assist to Lamb. He got blocked from behind by Whiteside which was just a good play by Whiteside. He didn’t really handle the ball that much when he was in. And Hawes over handled it.

  • CJSHYY

I think that’s why Heat’s coach put Witeside to 2nd unit bc of Lin.

  • grover chang

I’ve seen Lin play well with everyone he was with on the court today. Miami deserves more credit for good defense. I’ve yet seen a linsanity game against spoelstra defense.

  • Alain Gervais

    this is true

  • CJSHYY

Maybe bc tomorrow has another game…. I think they will let Lin do more tomorrow bc CNY.

  • grover chang

Speolstra seems to know how to contain Lin. He knows Lin is dangerous.

  • sws94

Kemba started off well but then got so-so. Hornets board isn’t liking his play on RealGM.

  • sws94

I agree but he hasn’t done much this game to contain him. Lin just couldn’t get anything going with his players today and he has to deal with Whiteside.

  • Alain Gervais

Its the scene that has to create space for Lin. Lin scored well vs deandre this year because the spacing was good

  • sws94

    Yes, good observation, grover.

  • aras

the second unit on the charlotte hornets are not playing like a team tbh to much calling their own numbers. give the ball to lin let him facilitate. hope cliff lets them know that.

  • sws94

Too many cooks is correct. Let Lin run the show. Not Lamb or Hawes.

  • Joe what do you know

Yeah. Can’t think of any other reasons for Whiteside to come off bench… Spo really does his homework…

  • sport

Lin can’t be consistent when he’ starting PG one game with lots of minutes and backup SG/SF with few minutes the next!

  • LinMad

yep exactly, there no way you can compare Lin to Kemba knowing this. Kemba has a consistent role. Lin does not but he’s still getting good numbers.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

The Miami bench is pretty strong but their starters has to count on Wade and Dragic.

  • Barry Allen

Lin will probably leave next season.

  • LinMad

How many times do our bigs get the rebound and somehow the butter fingers magically make it end in the opponents hands?

  • Alain Gervais

Marvin willian shooting well mean theres no way Lin closes out the game

  • sws94

Batum is playing a very strong game.

  • Alain Gervais

1st great game in 2 month

  • grover chang

Lin not getting to play but can’t complain about the effort. Seems like good work sharing the ball. Walker had not hogged the ball. Just a little slow for my taste but team playing together.

  • grover chang

Mkg is strong . Coast to coast.

  • he can finish very well

  • grover chang

Good 3 by walker in flow of the game tonight.

  • sws94

He tends to knock down open shots.

  • sport

I don’t think Lin should stay even if Kemba leaves. If they valued him, they would be starting him along side Kemba, Batum, and MKG. Lin will reunite with MDA.

  • occupatio

mkg only finishes on right when he goes coast to coast

  • Alain Gervais

Lin may get 19 minutes for the whole game

  • sws94

    True.

  • occupatio

i checked in late. why is lin getting so few minutes tonight?

  • MoominFloren

    maybe less

  • yes, that one was a good 3 off Frank’s kickout

  • sws94

I don’t think we should worry about Lin’s minutes. Today the game isn’t really calling for him yet.

  • LinMad

cause 2nd unit was garbage and didn’t let him be PG.

  • Alain Gervais

    Lin not in yet

  • occupatio

i dont see kemba doing anything.

  • Guest

    Hornets do not need tonight.

  • 2nd unit didn’t pass the ball around.
Lamb took his own number (6 shots in 6 min)
    trouble with Whiteside earlier

  • Lefon Jang

    Here comes Kemba iso

  • grover chang

Can’t say hornets are playing bad without Lin. I’m impressed how together they are tonight.

  • golfhacker

There’s another game tomorrow night. So maybe conserving Jeremy. Team is playing well tonight.

  • Lefon Jang

Miami scores one more time, Lin is in

  • Alain Gervais

    thats ridiculous

  • Joe what do you know

How do you all see the Kemba trade rumour now?

  • travis

    Life of being a backup

  • LinMad

Looks like Kemba ISO mode now.

  • Alain Gervais

    Lin played no 3rd quarter.

  • Lam

let lin rest his knee. Starters are doing ok.

  • Alain Gervais

Down to 15 minutes for the game

  • Lefon Jang

Kemba shot the last 4 possessions

  • MoominFloren

let’s start the kemba iso time

  • grover chang

Yeah. The bad feeling is coming back.

  • Lefon Jang

    last 5 possesions

  • Lam

How did Lin play with his limited minutes?

  • cshot

so this is how cliff repays jeremy after he gets him the win over the freaking cavaliers

  • Alain Gervais

So yea MKG injury was why he got minutes.

  • Alain Gervais

    Lin leaves next year

  • LinMad

Cliff praised BROB more than Lin last game. I don’t see how.

  • Alain Gervais

He brought in PJ instead of Lin

  • Guest

Lin can rest his ankle tonight. Look at the bright side.

  • sws94

Lin’s knees are fine. It’s the right ankle that was bothering him.

  • Alain Gervais

    Hahahaha funny

  • Kemba 2-5 in the last 6 possessions.
If they don’t go back playing teamball, the Hornets is in trouble

  • Alain Gervais

Its a 1 year deal folks

  • heart

Lin needs to get a starting PG job next season. Can’t stand watching him sitting on the bench playing backup. He’s a starting caliber PG for heaven’s sake. Lin didn’t even get to play any minutes in 3Q! Cliff is really something…

  • Lam

    yup. Got that wrong.

  • DX

After won the Cavs, only got 10 minutes. WTF, Lin should start plan next year or the rest of season now.

  • aras

wow Lin with only 10 minutes in 3q thats ridiculous to be honest

  • LinMad

I feel like Cliff is icing Lin out so he can do bad in the 4th. So no other team will offer a contract to him.

  • Lefon Jang

    Here comes Liiiiiin….

  • John Focker

Between win over Cavs and Batum working towards triple double tonight, Hornets showcasing Kemba hoping to not lose too much in a trade.

  • Lefon Jang

    Batum passed to a ghost

  • Alain Gervais

    Kaminsky messed up

  • LinMad

That’s why u keep the ball in the PG’s hands.

  • Either the Hornets tries to sell high on Kemba (Hello, Bucks!) or they just want to keep him happy being the #1 PG

  • LAJane

What I noticed in Lin’s Cavs after-game comment is that he made sure to mention that “Kemba is irreplaceable.” This means to me that he has always known that Kemba is there to stay. That confirmed to me that he was using this opportunity to play with a coach who likes him and would not say bad things about him, would not be vindictive…a spot that would help him get the most favorable press out of the moments when he could shine. That has happened. It’s his nature to enjoy being on good terms with the guys he plays with. Plus, you never know where they’ll turn up again 🙂 So I think Jeremy is giving his usual all in a situation that was never envisioned as the ultimate home he’d like to have.

  • sws94

Lin shouldn’t go at Whiteside too much.

  • occupatio

whiteside just swallowed that ball. amazing

  • golfhacker

    Ya think? 🙂

  • DX

Who care, only 10 minutes left. Lin only shot 3 now.

  • sws94

    Team ball, DX. Team ball.

  • John Focker

I think it’s not burning bridges in case no other NBA team is duped into taking Kemba in a trade. 🙂

  • Lefon Jang

    Take a sit Batum

  • cshot

    great now kembas in

  • stam

Just tuned in. how is our boy playing? only 10 mins?

  • LinMad

why is Batum facilitating more than Lin?

  • DX

Agree, only you have enough time and other teammates play too.

  • LAJane

Could be. Things do change 🙂

  • Alain Gervais

    Cliffs subbing is really bad

  • LinMad

coaching disaster. Why keep Lin out so long and then stick him in the final quarter where it matters the most with a unit that isn’t even on the same page?

  • sws94

Miami is a way better team with Whiteside in there. Have no idea why he isn’t starting.

  • MoominFloren

make sure Lin can’t play pg

  • Alain Gervais

    what i said

  • I heard some discipline issues a while back

  • Singapore BB Fan

Hornets is clueless in defense now!

  • LinMad

our bench bigs just makes him look so much better.

  • Alain Gervais

I honest have no clue what Cliff is doing.

  • DX

Come on, only Hawes & Lamb protect the pain. They are small and soft.

  • sws94

OK. But he’s a huge rim protector.

  • LAJane

Last ditch medicine. Sometimes they’ve just waited too long.

  • NONONO

Everyone sees MKC plays well with Lin, Clifford prefers Kemba plays with Lin. So Kemba now has Lin and MKG take turns to cover Kemba’s weak defense for 40 mins.

  • NONONO

    Better go this month

  • Lefon Jang

    Thank goodness for Marvin

  • LAJane

The commitment to Kemba is just too done a deal. They will continue to squirm around like a worm on a hot brick trying to find ways to make it workable.

  • Alain Gervais

    Lin done

  • Alain Gervais

    Go heat

  • heart

Freezing out a rhythm/critical player, Lin, the entire quarter and expects him to perform while Cliff returns KW after two minutes to the game after playing 12m straight in 3Q??? SMH!!!

  • Dorothy

    go heat!!!!!!!!!

  • cshot

    lol r u serious?

  • cshot

    lin seems to be done

  • Alain Gervais

    Refs today have been terrible

  • LinMad

go heat, coach is not wise.

  • Alain Gervais

Lin lost 15 minutes in playing time lmao

  • occupatio

cannot play both kemba and lin against miami. the matchups are bad.

  • travis

Stephanie ready sooo bias towards Kemba

  • Dorothy

    the sit Kemba

  • occupatio

of course i agree. but u know how it is…

  • stam

Lin got only 15 mins? The player of the last game… i don’t get this he needs to leave now.

  • Alain Gervais

    The bench is sill bad.

  • Alain Gervais

    yea

  • occupatio

im outta here. watching this game is a waste of time.

  • stam

I will still hope for a win because that is what Lin wants, but i really hate how they are using him.

  • Alain Gervais

    it was

  • grover chang

Thanks for helping us finally beat LeBron. Have a seat Lin.

  • zxcvb

    Easy to predict this game.

Lin had the best Hornets game in years, beating Lebron’s super team while Kemba had failed 22 straight times to do so. Kemba whines and chucks. Lin played as backup SG/SF with only 15m to make Kemba feel “safe.”

Lin’s mistake was being too good last game. His minutes and touches were the lowest of the season.

  • Epie

    Same here. Good night.

  • BobbyH

Whiteside really knows how to block Lin’s ball. Next time, see if Lin can come up something.

  • zxcvb

Can’t blame him. Look at his minutes and touches. Star players go 1-6 all the time…then they go 4-6.

  • MoominFloren

I can enjoy my breakfast now.

  • Singapore BB Fan

done that once with a one-hand layup

  • grover chang

Need tyler to march Whiteside in muscle.

  • NONONO

No starting, no closing , no meaningful pg time. Give Lin one reason to stay Hornets play meaningful basketball.

  • stam

None he needs to bounce asap.

  • zxcvb

He did fine. Missed some shots, but so did Kemba. Difference is Kemba gets insane minutes and touches so he goes 5-15 (though he started 1-5).

  • aras

okay sws this is just wrong this time In my opinon he did not play pointguard when he did play and he did not play the entire 3rd quarter. thats not his fault its the coaches. how is he going to produce if he is being messed with barely playing anything this game. come on now

  • LinMad

    yep

  • Singapore BB Fan

Hornet’s ISO mode tough to beat the Heats!

  • grover chang

No lin, no win? Not sure. This is a close game

  • Alain Gervais

    lol i love whiteside

  • Barry Allen

Agreed, no idea why he chose this ballclub to begin with. He should choose one where he can showcase his talents not get limited PG-time behind Kemba/Roberts.

  • Dorothy

Can you imagine if MKG were not injured what kind of PT Lin would have? Cho and Clifford definitely lied to Lin.

  • Alain Gervais

    10 minutes per game

  • heart

This is the game Lin needs to remember to NOT resign w/ Hornets!

  • cshot

    karma

  • Dorothy

oh, we have seen too many times, when the game gets close, Kemba ISO ball starts

  • sws94

No one can score on Whiteside. He’s blocking every Hornet.

  • grover chang

Please trade Lin to someone who will play him more.

  • Alain Gervais

yup. I’m officially off the stay in charlotte bandwagon

  • Barry Allen

Yep Kemba usually shoots them out of the game in the end.

  • gandychan

Well the only thing that can score on white side are kemba Iso jump shots now

  • Lefon Jang

    from way back

  • Alain Gervais

Whats the point of getting Lin if this was the dream to begin with

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    Clifford loves Lin. Lol

  • Singapore BB Fan

Why is this game so different from the game against the CAV?

  • Alain Gervais

Why get Lamb for 9 minutes

  • heart

Glad you finally see the daylight!

  • grover chang

    Love Williams. 33333

  • stam

Are his teamates hustling on D like they did when Lin was PG?

  • LinMad

This is what happens when Hawes plays PG over Lin lol

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    Go heat.

  • Alain Gervais

WTH is marvin on he isn’t that good

  • adele

And yet some people wants Lin to stay in this organization? No way! I already see this coming with Kemba playing

  • grover chang

Williams such a cool professional veteran. My second favorite hornet.

  • LinMad

if they don’t trade Kemba by the deadline, I’ll assume Lin is leaving.

  • sws94

Marvin is the star of this game.

  • sport

Bench for almost entire game with only 15 minutes what do you expect?! Not Lin’s fault if he doesn’t get to play as PG with 32+ minutes.

  • LinMad

not at ATH, it’s always Kemba

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    He will never be traded

  • Yascar

Thank you. Don’t look now but we’re in the bad books again sws.

  • stam

Just realized this LOL, they are paying him a lot to play for 9 mins tonight. Lamb wishes Lin was PG so he can produce better.

  • grover chang

Every game is different. Maybe Lin plays more tomorrow. Just win baby. Get to .500.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    You’re dreaming

  • grover chang

MKG. This guy makes a difference.

  • sws94

It’s crazy. I mean, the groups and matchups aren’t calling for Lin, he didn’t get much going, doesn’t mean he isn’t valued. It’s not his night. He’s valued. He’ll play in games to come.

  • Alain Gervais

/marvin playing out of his mind

  • sws94

Marvin is the hero. Great game. Can’t happen to a better guy.

  • grover chang

Pretty clutch by walker. As long as they share the ball this team is deep.

  • kauaiblue

    Fk this team… go heat!

  • stam

Ok great reasoning, thanks for pulling me back into reality.. however, MKG was out for all games during that time.

  • sport

Been wondering the same thing, give Lamb a big contract only to barely play him!

  • heart

    Let’s hope for OT.

  • Alain Gervais

All those games a player was missing

  • sws94

It was clutch. Kemba is good for those types of shots. But it’s Marvin’s game.

  • Alain Gervais

relying on people getting injured to play is not fun

  • kauaiblue

    No one cares about walker.

  • grover chang

    Who is Alonzo rooting for?

  • sws94

Actually, Stefanie, we didn’t miss Kemba that much last game.

  • stam

At least lin gets to rest his ankle. He was pissed when he left the court.

  • Alain Gervais

if it happen tomorrow as well ill be done

  • Singapore BB Fan

When In Rome do what the Romans do

  • kauaiblue

Jlin gotta out of charlotte asap

  • grover chang

From a regular fan perspective this is a good game but last game was more entertaining.

  • LinMad

    its over

  • LinMad

this looks like Heat in favor

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

For some strange reason, it’s clear Clifford doesn’t trust Lin as a PG…Bringing in Kemba so early in the 4th threw the game out of order when it was not necessary….I would had accepted that move if Lin was turning the ball over a bunch of time, but Lin took care of the ball well tonight…it’s just that Hassan was blocking every shot in the paint.

  • grover chang

    Smh.

  • LinMad

    game over

  • LinMad

i’m so glad Lin didn’t get to play this game.

  • CaliUSMC

    TY BOSH

  • grover chang

WTH. This team dominated the Cavs just two days ago.

  • golfhacker

    Kemba ISO coming up!

  • stam

    with lin as PG lol

  • Alain Gervais

Im a bit more relax. Ill say this Its good MKG came back before the season was over that why Lin sees his minutes if the whole team is healthy

  • sws94

I’m sorry, Wade is a great player. He’s just great. I know he can play dirty, but he’s spectacular. I like him better than LBJ in some ways.

  • Lam

    kemba time.

  • LinMad

thanks to Lin. Lin is not a factor this game. 15 minutes, not even 50% of it as PG.

  • sws94

    You’re fine 🙂

  • Alain Gervais

    Lin going in

  • sport

Batum, Walker, and Williams got theres but still no win! That’s the difference between them and Lin as starting PG!

  • heart

You forgot Lin was starting PG in that game!

  • CaliUSMC

He overcame a lot of obstacles to be where he is. He’s a good dude.

  • Singapore BB Fan

    what for?

  • LinMad

    is Lin going in? wth

  • stam

the great news is lin became a better defensive player here so he learned something to improve his overall play.

  • Dorothy

    nooooooooooo, let Hornets lose

  • grover chang

What’s the point. Too little too late. Lin is cold.

  • LinMad

LMFAO LIN IS IN FOR LAST PLAY. ARE U SERIOUS COACH? ARE U FOR REALS?

  • Alain Gervais

    Really???

  • sws94

    He’s a finisher. Draws fouls.

  • Alain Gervais

    What a mess

  • BobbyH

That is a smart play by the duo – Walker/Batum

  • heart

Cliff uses Lin for DEFENSE the last .22 sec???? Poor Coaching!!!

  • LinMad

    THAT WAS HILARIOUS. COACHING DISASTER.

  • stam

I hope they do not draw up a play for him then they can blame it on him if he misses lol

  • sport

Nah it’s going to be Lin making the pass for someone to chuck a miss!

  • Singapore BB Fan

    haha what a play…

  • sws94

    Offense.

  • Alain Gervais

I want him to shoot it lol Lin is clutch

  • stam

but the good news is lin will feel appreciated for his defense…

  • LinMad

I don’t understand though, they didn’t put Lin in for defense. They had the ball right?

  • BobbyH

    decoy

  • grover chang

Do I want OT. This game is like waiting in a doctors office. Not really bad but a little annoying as time ticks on.

  • Briiick

It’s not unlike the last time when Linsanity took over in the OT and saw his PT halved in the following games. Cliff is careful at protecting KW’s spotlight even if it means losing a lot of games.

  • LinMad

MJ somewhere shaking his head at Coach Cliff.

  • Alain Gervais

    What is Kemba doing

  • Dorothy

    HaHaHaHa

  • LinMad

Best play would have been Lin and Troy.

  • sws94

    Never had a good rhythm.

  • Singapore BB Fan

if Lin led the hornets to beat the LBL’s CAV surely Kemba can led hornets to beat Wade’s Heat. No?

  • grover chang

    LOL. 3 ft for lin

  • LinMad

    lmao 3 ft for Lin.

  • sws94

Lin will shoot 3 FTs. That’s the beauty of Lin.

  • Dorothy

    EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Alain Gervais

Lin tried to miss the last one to get a rebound

  • stam

too bad he missed one but who cares the game is over lol

  • BobbyH

Of course, the answer is so obvious.

  • Alain Gervais

    It was on purpose

  • Briiick

Don’t think so. Cliff is doing what he thought MJ would like to see him doing.

  • LinMad

lol that was planned miss shot.

  • David Ly

Happy he got two free throws, but sucks he was told to miss! One more garbage point was wasted!

  • stam

    oh i’m not watching lol

  • sws94

Terrible loss. Waste of a great game by Wade. Terrible loss.

  • sws94

Waste of a great game by Marvin.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    Karma to the ungrateful

  • Alain Gervais

    Whiteside was a boss

  • blubell

Jeremy gave CHA fans pizza with those fts

  • Yascar

I agree but you’re braver than me. I just lurk in the game threads. It swings too far each game, even each minute, and it just becomes too much for me.

  • TTNN

what this even mean? Why Wade’s game is wasted?

  • stam

    Good one!

  • sport

See Cliff what happens when Lin plays? He draws fouls and Hornets would’ve won instead of losing! Clifford is such a bad coach!

  • blueCypher

    haha, nice

  • LinMad

Well we all saw why Lin needs to be PG more and handle the ball more. It seems we always lose or go into OT when Batum is handling the ball or Kemba for the final plays. Lin has been consistently finishing the game when the coach actually empowers him at point guard.

  • BobbyH

2 consecutive TOs in last 2 possessions by Walker led to the loss

  • Pete Roces

Stupid org just like Rox and LA. Lin is still looking for a home in NBA, wait for next season as his story continues…..

  • Singapore BB Fan

What a Contrast between the game against CAV and a winnable game against Heats.
    Cliff…you blew it again…

  • NONONO

Batum and Kemba cracked at the meaningful dicision time.

  • LinMad

    one by Batum too.

  • stam

Well i guess that walker lost the game then.

  • blueCypher

2 critical fumbles by Batum and Kemba in the last minute

  • grover chang

What is the difference between today and last game? Probably too hard for the coaching staff to POINT to anyOne reason.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Cliff. You can kiss kemba then stay home with no playoff as usual

  • heart

See Lin always makes a difference in crunch time, no matter how long or short time he’s on the floor, but Cliff has not learned his lesson. He deliberately left Lin out cold this game, thinking he can win w/KW. What a disastrous coaching.

  • blueCypher

Ya, both fumbles . Not even a shot off

  • Pete Roces

they just can’t see it or not willing to face it?

  • DX

Why don’t let the high IQ player do the clutch? These low IQ mistakes just happen and happen again. Coach’s problem?

  • stam

maybe he was following orders. he deliberately does not compliment Lin unless it’s asked for because I think he’s worried about Kemba whining.

  • sws94

He coached poorly and didn’t blend Lin in well with guys like MKG. I won’t argue with you. Your points are good ones. Bad coaching job by Cliff. Too predictable and Kemba/Batum centric. Marvin was great though.

  • sws94

Love Marvin, Batum played well. Kemba was pretty good but then went hero ball and was a disaster at the end. MKG not as much impact this game but still pretty good. Spo outcoached Clifford by a mile. Clifford’s coaching is not in the same league. Whiteside was amazing.

  • cshot

    well deserved loss

  • MEL LIN

    that was dumb….

  • blueCypher

Batum played well, but his fumble during the last minute was a big negative

  • Briiick

Hornets are thinking, how can we find some new guys to help KW win games ? LOL.

  • jolno

The Hornets have been losing with Kemba long before Lin even joined the team. Well, can’t see any signs that they’re sick of it yet because they just keep dumping the ball to Kemba to let him dictate everything. Lin would be able to leave soon enough to make this “Hornets experience” a lunch time laughter.

  • BobbyH

ATH headline: Walker came back strong to lead Hornet to near win by his heroic 2 TOs at the end of 4Q.

  • zxcvb

MJ had a front row seat for “The Kemba Show,” LOL. This is what Kemba gets you: low efficiency stats for himself.

The Linsanity Show gets you high efficiency wins for the TEAM.

  • Singapore BB Fan

well, you were right about Lin drawing fouls…but that’s too late. Cliff trusted Kemba too much to let him go on ISO mode. Cliff you deserve the loss.

  • aras

Cant judge Lins game in any way this game. If cliff wanted to lower Lins confidence after an amazing game against the cavs. he probably suceeded. just terrible managing of a player.

  • adele

    Hope so.

  • sws94

I don’t think Batum is clutch. He’s good during the game, doesn’t step up end of games.

  • CaliUSMC

Clifford adapts very slow in game.. Not as bright as I thought.

  • zxcvb

Bad pass by Kemba didn’t help. Bounce pass was too far out.

  • adele

He is no smart at all!

  • zxcvb

Kemba was crappy all night. He just got a ton of minutes and open shots to make his volume stats look good, but he was a one-man disaster.

  • sws94

Lin didn’t have much to work with. I agree. I don’t think he got it in gear but he just didn’t have the ball enough to direct traffic or the horses. Cliff probably thought he liked how the starters played and not the 2nd unit, but it was fools gold.

  • blueCypher

I’m just wondering if Lin is even in the coach’s ideal closing 5. I thought it would be Kemba Lin MKG Batum Zeller

  • sport

How is making 7 out 18 shots good?! That’s called chucking the ball! If anything Marvin Williams was good making 12 of 17! Meanwhile Batum made 7-12 which is still 6 shot attempts less than Walker!

  • NONONO

I am so sure Clifford thought he could have won this game without Lin until last 20 secs.

  • zxcvb

He knows his Xs-and-Os, but he plays favorites and never changes his mind about those favorites.

  • adele

    Lol. Good one

  • Alain Gervais

Its against the rule to insult someone like that here

  • sws94

I think he didn’t go with Lin tonight due to how he looked earlier and the size of Green. Plus how do you take Marv out of this game? Marv was spectacular.

  • sws94

Flags a plenty. You guys know what I’m talking about.

  • cshot

jeremy is not important in cliffs mind. he didn’t even compliment jeremy after the win against clev. sees him nothing more than a backup

  • stam

can we just ban the troll lol

  • cshot

a normal coach would reward their players the following game with more PT

  • zxcvb

I have no idea what’s going on in Charlotte, but unless they trade Kemba by the deadline, Clifford truly is a dolt.

  • Lam

I thought he was banned before or maybe it was at the other site.

  • zxcvb

They always do…unless you’re Asian. Then you’re punished for making Kemba look bad.

  • CaliUSMC

    Lin-Aldrich-Leonard-Green-Duncan.. I called it!!

  • sws94

I meant Marv. Corrected it below. Can see why you were confused 🙂

  • Alain Gervais

Honestly Lin still seemed happy and laughing so i doubt it hindered him in any way

  • cshot

plz. id much rather see lin play in a system where theres no ball hogs

  • blueCypher

I get it, Marvin was hot tonight and leave him in. We’ll see in the upcoming games. Sometimes players don’t perform well in the 1st half and bounce back in the 2nd

  • Lam

iSigh its good to dream, maybe Father Christmas will drop by for Lin.

  • stam

    lol

  • sws94

Miscalculation. Since Marv was hot, he went with Marv. Marv had a better game than Lin. MKG is in there for D. So Lin sat this one. Didn’t work for Cliff.

  • sport

That’s the truth! It’s been like that for Lin’s entire career!

  • sws94

Yeah. Actually, most game threads on a lot of boards are like that.

  • heart

You just now realize that? Cliff is a prescript game planner, very rigid in his adaptation or adjustments.

  • CaliUSMC

    !?!

  • blueCypher

That is a dream haha. A classy organization like the Spurs will not just dump Parker like that

  • sport

If Pop wanted Lin, he would’ve signed him last season. That’s not happening!

  • Barry Allen

Lin needs more time to warm up and get a feel for the game. That’s just the way he is.

  • Briiick

Cliff won’t let Lin outshine MJ’s chosen player, unless MJ changes his mind. Therefore Hornets’ ceiling is no higher than KW’s.

  • sws94

Absolutely. Lin was blocked by Whiteside. But then again, so was everyone else on the Hornets. So Lin had about 6 points taken away by Whiteside.

  • cshot

cliff probably gonna say something idiotic like he limited jeremys minutes cus he got blocked by white side too many times.

  • Barry Allen

I think the mods here have been great.

  • cshot

    I’m agreeing with you haha

  • Alain Gervais

charlette has to see Kemba is not a winning player. They better learn it quit because if they don’t 10 years will last and they will be as irrelevant as they currently are

  • cshot

everyone got blocked by white side today

  • CaliUSMC

He’s 16 years in and on the decline. It might! Duncan and ginobli are probably gone next year.. It creates space!!

  • Alain Gervais

I doubt it will be brought up. The honestly couldn’t play both Lin and KW. Green is too tall

  • adele

    True that!

  • zxcvb

You’d think they’d learn after 5 years! This is actually the ONE and only season Kemba has shot well, and he’s still a selfish loser PG. It really is Stockholm Syndrome. He’s kept them prisoner for so long, they can’t imagine playing without him.

  • blueCypher

If you have Duncan gone next year then why do you have him as part of the 5

  • adele

    Yes but not Clifford.

  • CaliUSMC

    Lin-Aldrich-Leonard-Green-Diaw lol

  • blueCypher

I still think Parker has at least a couple years left including this year

  • cshot

put lin in his regular playing times… don’t leave kemba in there for the whole 3rd quarter… for christ sake, even steph’s backups get more consistent pt than jeremy

  • stam

i actually think he likes lin alot. Lin actually follows his plays and directions. I think he gets pressure from the FO or MJ in favor of the “superstar”

  • adele

Yes. They really don’t want Lin to outshine Kemba. So sad

  • Alain Gervais

Heats played this game so genius. They had white side on the bench to stop Lin which If it wasn’t by design they got really lucky. Then they finish with Green as the 2 guard who is 6’7. Cliff really had to choose Lin or KW and well we know his answer on most games i not all

  • stam

yes they have. thank the mods for making this a great site!

  • Alain Gervais

    ur very persistent

  • blueCypher

Ya , I think Whiteside just got back from an injury so he’s coming off the bench for now

  • CaliUSMC

He’s averaging a career low in mins. I wouldn’t mind if Lin backs him up.. surely Lin will get his fair share of mins in the spurs system

  • Briiick

Did MJ watch the game sitting by the court ?

  • guest

Clifford trying to prove that the starters are the best players on the team regardless of how many games he loses to prove it!

  • sport

Hopefully he watched the game at home to see the difference when Lin’s not leading the team as starting PG! Walker, Batum, and Williams in double figures but STILL no win!

  • Lam

    psalm is out for dinner.

  • heart

So many games to count now that KW and NB had stumbled and had critical TOs in crunch time. They could have pulled through this game w/o those TOs. I have not heard Cliff or they own up to their mistakes, have you?

  • blubell

    Refresh

  • sport

Then they will keep losing! I kinda of Lin’s agent makes excuse about his ankle so Hornets can continue to lose.

  • Lam

    ahh..brilliant.

  • Alain Gervais

    he played 16 minutes

  • Whitman Lam

He was trying to draw the foul instead of settling for a jumper, which was going to be contested anyway.

  • grover chang

Up vote you twice if I could.

  • sws94

I think MJ loves Lin. I don’t know why MJ is considered the scapegoat. I think Kemba’s skills penetrate Miami well. But Kemba only played poorly in the end. He played ok this game. I think Clifford got outcoached and Wade’s experience and skill won them the game. Plus Whiteside was amazing.

  • stam

    Thank you!

  • Whitman Lam

In crunch time, the ball always goes to Kemba and Batum even if they are being double covered.

  • sws94

That’s a coaching mistake. Plus in the end, Hawes had to pass it to Kemba, everyone else was covered. Then, Spo knew exactly what to do.

  • sws94

Agreed. He was successful once, but just once. But really, Whiteside blocked everyone. And one of the shots he blocked from Lin was a 10 or 12 foot jumper.

  • heart

Thanks for being on duty and quick.

  • Alain Gervais

    Lebron destroying the celtics

  • heart

Probably Cliff decided to leave Lin out bc just that… instead of adjusting defense measures and drawing up plays for players to make easy baskets…

  • blubell

Sorry, hard to moderate with phone and when not at home.

  • aras

We’ll se Sws if this is how he is going to be managed in the future. better of Looking somewhere else to be honest. you dont mess around with a guy who had a monster game against Easts best.

  • donsmacau

What Happened to MKG this game too.

According to so many posters, MKG who was the real superstar glue guy in defeating the Cavs of which the team surely could not have defeated the Cavs — appears to have had an off day as well.

Please let’s not blame MKG he can’t deliver WINS for this team alone by himself every night.

  • Alain Gervais

    what are you talking about.

  • cshot

mkg needs someone who will pass it to him = LIN

  • donsmacau

    Where’s the defense of MKG?

  • golfhacker

Ish Smith took 25 shots tonight, more than double anyone else on the team. Please Jeremy go to Philly next year if MDA is there.

  • Alain Gervais

The team played pretty good defense the whole game. Its Kemba iso late that killed them

  • donsmacau

Well too bad MKG could not WIN another game in a row for Hornets, he did play the same number of minutes and the exact same role so there’s not much excuse.

  • Alain Gervais

Its not his role to win games he isn’t a shooter

  • donsmacau

    You said that the team could not have beaten Cavs without MKG and therefore since MKG played the same number of minutes with the same position played then he didn’t do enough to win the game for the Hornets as he did for Cavs game.;

First post I didnt mean MKG’s DEFENSE, I meant posters who defend MKG as the critical component to Cavs win.

  • Alain Gervais

so defense isn’t a critical part of a game

  • donsmacau

It sure is and MKG is the god of defense and he won the Cavs game but he lost the Heat game for us.

  • Alain Gervais

ur walking in a circle. Lets just move on

  • donsmacau

I’m illuminating the double standard where a post that claims without MKG’s effort the Cavs game would have been lost.

If you’re willing to say the above, you should be willing to say MKG playing same minutes and role should also take the blame for LOSS if he should get credit for the WIN.

  • Alain Gervais

i don’t understand how you cant grasp the idea of Mkg as a defender for this specific team being a critical part of any game we play. We saw our defense without him, some Lin started and we still lost. Lin had 15- 20 and still lost. At the end of the day games are won by who scores when it counts. MKG as a scorer cant impact the game that way. You need to play good defense for 3 quarters in order for Lin to score 10 in the fourth quarter. Its really not that complicated. Team is the word…Team

  • BobbyH

I kind of wish now after today’s game that the Bucks rumor is just rumor. If that’s true, my gosh, Lin will have to stay with Hornets with this HC that is so … MDA, where are you?

  • Alain Gervais

When hawes plays 7 more minutes then Lin lol houston we have a problem

  • JLin Fan from Australia
  • donsmacau

Despite proving repeatedly every time JLIN starts and leads a team of nobodies to victory there are always people who point to someone OTHER THAN JLIN as more deserving of credit in beating a team that outclasses JLIN’s team in every way.

That mentality ignores the fact that JLIN is the BEST at making a TEAM of no-names work together because Basketball is a TEAM SPORT and teamwork beats ANY individual.

NOBODY on a JLIN led team is critical because SOME OTHER TEAM MATES always step up to take that persons role in the WIN. That goes for MKG, if he doesn’t play as part the the group that JLIN leads to WINS then JLIN’s leadership of infectious teamwork finds someone to replace what MKG would have done.

  • sws94

    Good luck, Alain.

  • donsmacau

And he’s gonna need it sws

  • pistol pete

No Lin no Win never truer

  • Dorothy

I am so disappointed at this organization.

  • Alain Gervais

Your just arguing for the sake of arguing. I don disagree with a word you just said. Add to it one more sentence. Its nice to have a player like MKG to help spear the defense

  • heart

I can’t get over the fact that Cliff froze Lin out and then brought him back in the final .22 seconds of the game when it was on the line. That very action reminds me of McHale who also did that to Lin in one of the games. So sick of this treatment… Feel very bad for Lin tonight besides the loss…

  • pistol pete

Well then let’s put it more delicately shall we? Now that Kemba, Batum and MKG are back Lin will probably average no more than 20 minutes a game. Some gratitude for a guy who led the team to their first victory over a team LeBron was on in 6 years.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

I literally gave up watching after seeing how he was treated in first half. Didn’t really watch much in second half since he played so few minutes.

  • Acbc

I just knew this was going to happen. It happened in Houston, in LA so history has taught us that we should just expect this to happen. It’s human nature to protect what little you have as turf and not allow anyone else to take it away from you.

Like LAJane said, Lin knew it was coming and tried to prevent it from happening by saying that Kemba is irreplaceable. Premptive political correctness wasn’t enough. Lin was punished anyways.

  • Briiick

I feel the same. These “player’s coaches” think alike.

  • Briiick

Yes. We can expose them, that’s why we are here.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Wasn’t on the site when this happened. Delete the comments with no warning when I saw it. Only posted this after I deleted offensive comments.

  • Whitman Lam

Drawing fouls puts his team into the bonus, makes it easier to score.

  • sws94

Whiteside was getting clean blocks. Lin was trying to penetrate and score and Whiteside was the last defender. Unfortunately, Whiteside was having a block festival tonight and Lin was one of his victims.

  • sws94

If Clifford is serious about getting to the playoffs, it is use your tools better or watch all the rounds while not being in it. There’s still a chance but it’s game 50 now. Time to figure some things out and overusing Kemba and Batum isn’t the answer.

2nd unit is usually great. They probably are down on themselves. Look for them to bounce back the next game.

  • Warren

Lin gets to play just 16 minutes a night after that amazing performance? This reeks of favoritism. I have nothing against coach Clifford but this is getting ridiculous.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

This game just tells you when Batum and Walker have a good game, the team will still lose.

  • Acbc

I checked in early online. It wasn’t a Lin express tonight, it was a train wreck.

  • blubell

We would appreciate your patience. Also disqus doesn’t show the changes immediately and you have to refresh the page.

  • pistol pete

Ok. It is pretty common though on most sites to see curse words starred out and even completely spelled out. We’re all grown ups here aren’t we? How many times in conversation do both men AND women say a word relating to human reproduction? I don’t have to and won’t if that is the rules of this forum which by the way I think is the best JLin forum on the web. But let’s be real.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

He knows Lin is just one year rental and teams are going to pay him a lot more for this kind of service. How many games that Lin has willed the team into victory.
For players like Walker and Batum, they may pick up good stats but the team will still loss. Ultimately it’s about winning not a game of stats.

  • blubell
  • JoeTeam

I missed the game but we’ve seen the pattern before to try to win without Lin and then try for a last minute save. We sort of knew it would be kw ball tonight.

  • pero_square

Missed the game due to work. A look at the box scores and the foul mood in here I can pretty much guess what happened.

    History repeating itself *sigh*

  • grover chang

Lin high pnr with Tyler, and three shooters: Daniels/lamb, Williams, kaminksy/hawes. Really. Not that difficult.

  • sws94

It wasn’t KW ball. It was mostly the ball going through Batum who had a good night. KW went a little into hero ball mode but not that much.

  • Marie Simon

It’s pretty obvious that Kemba, Batum, & MKG are the franchise players and Lin will only be a backup PG/SG as evidenced by diminished playing time, benching, etc. No matter how hard Jeremy brings this team to W, no way they will give him a big contract. Hope Jeremy has plan B & not settle in this franchise.

  • Hope

I hope lin is traded to 76ers. Y wait.

  • MEL LIN

Miami was afraid of Lin they put whiteside with 2nd five to block Lin’s shots

  • JoeTeam

ok. I watched the CLE game on the yt that BB posted, and generally I didn’t think that was a Linsanity game because Cliff kept in out for significant parts of the game. The winner ball was that Lin when in was indeed the PG. Even with Lin out, the 2nd unit did well enough to keep the spread in late 3rd. and to about 5 mins left.

Batum yesterday was trying to move the ball around and even tried a few tough passes but he’s not as good as Lin.

So, if Cliff kept Lin out for significant minutes here, he didn’t overly play Lin yesterday either.

I agree that probably Cliff is the losing coach here, but then what did you mean by a little KW ball? Did KW try to ISO win it and they lost?

  • Warren

ya.. but that whiteside is a monster.. damn he had 10 blocks in just 27 minutes!

  • Hope

Honestly, lin fits better with big market such as NY or LA.

  • JoeTeam

this site is designed so young lin fans can read along.

  • GameWatcher

If traded to 76ers now, Lin would be on a tanking mission with the rest of the team.

  • MEL LIN

If coach is wise he should have put in Zeller to block whiteside so he can’t block the shots….like the last play with Marvin. Zeller blocked out whiteside.

  • pistol pete

Did you post a warning to them also?

  • pistol pete

This is the Internet. I repeat let’s be real.

  • MEL LIN

Poor coaching…if you set play and have someone block out white side Jeremy can drive inside and score.

  • DX

Yes, I repeated this many times.

  • Acbc

IMO, Lin has done that already and we know what that was like for him. MDA and Sixers is a perfect fit because Lin will get a fair chance to prove himself to someone who has already lived through it first hand. No other coach, GM can give him a chance like that.

  • pero_square

Sorry Mario, your MDA is in another castle.

If they are going to be reunited they need to do it soon. Lin is coming into his prime. I would hate to see him wasted his golden years on more unworthy teams.

  • sport

Agree MDA + Colangelo would be Lin’s ticket to legit starting PG again. MDA had to fight politics all the time but with Colangelo who is also his friend? he doesn’t have to anymore!

  • Kwok Wai Lai

The game was lost on the turnovers by Walker and Hawes. Lin only played 16 minutes and not with the best players on the team.
Basketball is a team sport and no individual is better than the team and no stats is more important than the win.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Not gonna happen. Whoever makes this trade will get burnt by the Charlotte fans.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

The site rules is site rules. Everyone has to follow the site rules. If anyone posted a comment that is against site rules, depending on the severity, the comment will be deleted with no further warning and/or the poster may face temporarily/permanent ban. This is the last warning to all posters. Mods don’t have time to monitor every post 24/7. We do what we can with the limitation of our time and energy. No argument will take when we make our decision based on our time and limitations.

  • Warren

t’s true to a certain extent. but you have to appreciate what whiteside is doing. this isn’t the first game of the season he has had 10+ blocks.

  • cdblue10

I already expected this to happen, nothing new with this organization

  • Warren

it’s a shame because i was really starting to believe he had found a permanent home.

  • sws94

A little bit towards the end of the 4th. nowhere near as much as usual. But the loss is more that the bench didn’t get it going at all and Whiteside blocked a lot of shots. It wasn’t so much Kemba. Kemba botched 2 plays at the end, as did Batum, but the execution from the team wasn’t there.

  • BobbyH

    Not by 76ers fans.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Me too! They can stay with Walker and Batum but the lineup doesn’t seem to be effective in stopping Miami.
As long as they were there, it’s just a scoring match. But Lin is a game controller who would spread out court and pass to the right player to tear up the defense of the opposition and anchor the team defense.

  • Yascar

In other news, Jimmy Butler had to use a wheelchair after falling, looks like a bad injury. Hoping he’s okay but this could affect East standings if he doesn’t play for a stretch.

    Hornets play them on Monday.

  • JLin Fan from Australia
  • Kwok Wai Lai

MJ is not going to make this trade.

  • cdblue10

Or it could be Cliff is trying to derail a good line up for setting Kemba to lose, for his team mates to revolt against him.

  • BobbyH

    Trade????

  • Briiick

I still think getting the largest contract in the back court is the key.

  • Acbc

Sixers has probably won as many games as Hornets since January when MDA took over. They took GSW into overtime before losing by 3.

Colangelo and MDA are on a mission to change the culture and turn the Sixers franchise around.

  • Lam

There is till a slim chance of playoffs with Hornets. Not so this year with 76ers. Patience.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

What team is Jimmy Butler with?

  • sws94

    Bulls.

  • cdblue10

Another L tomorrow will make Cliff or Kemba as a scape goat, watch out for this guys.

  • zxcvb

The scapegoat will always be Lin. Even tonight, he was getting bashed: “Told you he’s inconsistent!” As if 16m as backup SG is plenty of time and touches. Fans, media, even coaches really are THAT stupid.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Kemba is the one who lost the game.
Watch it from 7:20. He was accountable for both TOs to lose the game.

Lin seemed to miss the last free throw on purpose. If they got the rebound and pass for a quick 3. The game would be in OT.

  • cdblue10

LIn is a 3rd and 4th quarter guy but Cliff didn’t give him chance to play,Cliff and Kemba needs to go

  • zxcvb

That theory doesn’t hold water at all. Lin came into the game late in the 1Q and got yanked early. And despite having only had one shot blocked in the 1st half, he didn’t come back in AT ALL until the 4th.

This was planned ahead of time. Lin’s big game made Kemba look bad and either Kemba or Cliff didn’t like that.

  • cdblue10

I don’t think MJ and CHO are stupid enough not to noticed this, watch out for a major changes to come.

  • zxcvb

It’s hilarious how transparent Kemba is.

    – Lin succeeds in beating Lebron’s super-team…something Kemba has never done in 20+ tries.
    – Kemba rushes himself back early to prevent Lin from dominating again.
    – Gets his own stats by volume while losing a winnable game.

Charlotte, its fans, front office and media really are hopeless. Better to lose than let the Asian guy lead.

  • cdblue10

They can’t make him as a scape goat ,he’s just a 2 mil player

  • zxcvb

I hope you’re right, but the truth is, they ARE that stupid. They’ve been that stupid for 4 years!

Even before Lin arrived, I always wondered why the heck Kemba was their starting PG. He’s always a losing chucker year after year, but he gets treated like he’s Curry and CP3 rolled into one.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Watch the highlight below. It was Walker who caused two consecutive TO in the last minute to lose the game.

  • cdblue10

I feel what you feel bro I’m just taking it lightly and still looking on the bright side.

  • Acbc

Lin made 15 mil with LA. Did it do anything for him? MDA is the one and only chance Lin has to start again in the NBA. No other coach or GM will ever give Lin a chance. Where ever MDA coaches is where Lin needs to be.

  • MEL LIN

Miami’s coach smart put whiteside with 2nd unit to guard Lin

  • Barry Allen

They Bulls can’t catch a break, or they just catch too many.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Kemba caused 2 consecutive TOs to lose the game. It’s a fact. Just watch the highlight below posted by me.

  • grover chang

Kemba walker not doing a good job of his “Lin impersonation.”

  • cdblue10

I saw that and it’s just a matter of time for them to realized who’s really pulling this team to go down

  • BobbyH

Now he blamed the bench? He is more and more like BS, not knowing what he is talking about.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

    Thanks!

  • MEL LIN

Yeah I know….Kemba was thinking if I miss a game it would be against the Cavs because he felt that Hornets can’t beat Cavs anyway as he tried 20 times like you said but he was wrong hahaha

  • grover chang

Lin is like Big Blue, the supercomputer. When he makes mistakes, its logged in his database, analyzed, and used as an adjustment later to win the game. The game is a running film in his mind and mistakes early in games only are used to calculate a plan to win the game in the end. I am not bothered when Lin makes TO from aggression because I know he is testing early to see what works and he then makes the proper adjustments. Lin’s mind is working faster then anyone else during the game, including his own coaches. Cliff should let Lin adjust to his mistakes just like he had promised him in the off-season.

  • BobbyH

It is on coach when players did not play well as a whole. It is not the first game of the season. It is 50+ games into season.

  • MEL LIN

Clifford: it was all Jlin’s fault
Jlin: but coach I wasn’t playing
Clifford: well you should have made that 4 point play and then get the rebound from whiteside and make a 360 shot for the game winner….I gave you 22 seconds you disappointed me
Jlin: you crazy coach…please trade me

  • CJSHYY

It’s BS. Bc I guess after Lin’s big game vs Cav, Kemba is not happy… this is not the first time. Always like this after big game from Lin next game he normally will not give the chance to do well… It’s OK. Season will end soon it’s either they want to use Lin’s game plan to win more games or please Kemba for lose more & miss the playoff again.

  • DX

Agreed with bench didn’t play well. But starters lost the game especially last 5 minutes. Too many mistakes when close the game.

  • grover chang

Not boring to me. Most of it is true and only confirms what I know. The point of a fan forum is to enjoy the company of like minded individuals.

  • heart

Just finished listening to Cliff’s postgame– Cliff sounds like BS talking… Cliff had No creative defense measures or setup plays to allow spacing for drive to the basket, if he already knew Whiteside’s a ‘premier’ shot blocker. Whiteside blocked almost everyone shots not just the bench! Lin wanted to get Whiteside in foul trouble so he can be fouled out. What Cliff said in post game was ridiculous. He thought he could won the game w/KW and NB, but couldn’t, so now he’s scapegoating the bench for this loss!

  • CJSHYY

Lin played only 10 min for the first half… he’s no impact on this game at all.

  • cdblue10

Hornets just won last night against the #1 team in the East and the blue print was there and yet Cliff needs to revert on his old ways of stupidity. He blamed the 2nd unit but it was him who threw away the team dynamic of his team.

  • Alain Gervais

the only option for Lin is to beat MKG for playing time. i think he can and will. Mostly time to play late in 2nd and 4th. IF and i say If Cliff is fair

  • Acbc

Off course you would. Clifford made no mistake huh? How about reining in the bench and force them to follow Lin instead of everyone chasing their own glory. Whose fault is that? It’s bad coaching to not change players going rogue and allowing them to run wild. That’s a bad coach!

Clifford IMO deliberately allowed it to happen so he could bench the second unit in favour of the first unit. When they failed, he brought Lin in to take the blame. 16 minutes for a guy that won your 100th game is just bad coaching. Stop blaming Lin for having a game he could not change without the help of some coaching chnage.

  • DX

There will be many games like this one . Very close, who made less mistakes win the game.

  • MEL LIN

all I can say is they have to trade Lin since MKG is back and he can’t play PG over KW. Why stay?

  • CJSHYY

That’s Hornets next season will be again.

  • pistol pete

    Exactly

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Lin works well with MKG. The other option is to bench Walker who is undersized and blames his passes if any.

  • grover chang

He didn’t give Lin enough time to make adjustments against whiteside. If he wanted to make an intelligent move, why didn’t Cliff simply just make whiteside defend the pick and roll with LIn. That would move whiteside out of the way. The PNR is the most basic, often run play in the NBA now. He is the coach, big fail not making that call.

  • NONONO

I wonder Lin would not fit to any team which rely on one or two high scoring franchise player ( not just iso player). The reason is simple. Lin always looks for any open player instead of the star player (which is less likely open). He will help the team to win through balancing scores on teammates at the “cost” of the star players. That is why he cannot play with Harden, melo, Kobe , now even a non star franchise player – Kemba .

  • Alain Gervais

Thats not gonna happen. Kemba is god on this team

  • Briiick

Yes, Lin and/or Batum could be gone in two weeks if they can get some parts back for longer term.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Kemba Walker is irreplaceable to lose the game.

  • pistol pete

    LOL

  • sws94

Not really. But he is the closest thing they have to a go-to scorer and he’s a solid ball-handler.

  • cdblue10

    LOL

  • Alain Gervais

Im talking Late in game Where Kemba has to play so its Lin or msg or datum and datum is a lock so its 2 left

  • MEL LIN

I really like the line up against Cavs Lin/Batum/MKG/Marvin/Zeller – nice big and strong

  • grover chang

It’s tiresome because the “truth only has one story.”

  • MEL LIN

If you let Jlin play PG he will beat most PG in the NBA but going against 6’6 small guard not a good idea

  • heart

Exactly. That’s what I just said. Cliff has no creativity in offense and defense schemes when face w/ difficulty in-game adjustments. Tonight he knew about Whiteside, ‘premier’ shot blocker, yet his tactic was to avoid ‘driving to the basket’ so Whiteside can’t block???

  • DX

    😂😂😂

  • NONONO

Solid holding the ball for himself. Lin TOs more because he creates more chances to scores for everyone instead of himself

  • CJSHYY

Cliff just needs to put the lose on bench bc Kemba helped Heat won this game…… smh! Bench didn’t get the chance to play their game. Most of the time it’s starters on court…

In fact, I am so happy they lose. LOL!

  • Solo

    Very well said, Acbc !!

  • CJSHYY

For real? I really can’t believe this?

  • Alain Gervais

didn’t someone make a joke about this yesterday

  • DX

Even Lin only played 16 minutes, but found some good things.

1st, Lin played mostly PG only a little SG with Kemba.

2nd, Lin didn’t have TO with 3 ast.

3rd, made all free throws, the last one doesn’t count.

    4th, 1 block.

5th, even 1-6, but there were 4 BAs. So doesn’t mean bad feeling.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Walker was definitely the very solid ball-handler who has just made two bad TOs to lose this winnable game in the last minute. Yes he’s the franchise player and you know this franchise sucks in this game with their franchise PG.

  • grover chang

“He was mostly playing team ball.”
    – and they “mostly” won until the end.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Lin has made no TO in this game against the Heat. That is not easy to do.

  • Alain Gervais

Am i crazy to think Charlotte is still the best option for Lin. Finding a new team and system with the right coach is hard. Lin learned this in NY and Houston. Cliff works well with Lin as well as the coaches. Lin last obstacle is beating MKg out for minutes. I honestly think if given an opportunity he can. Datum and Al could leave next year. So out of all the option Hornets may still be the best

  • cdblue10

ON this season yes,I absolutely agree that he’s in the right team and he can have the chance to lead this team,if Charlotte will lose w/ 3 more consecutive games,MJ and the FO’s will force to make a drastic move for this franchise.

  • DX

Yes, if lead 20 points, but mostly games are very close.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

There could only be one franchise PG in a team and that is not Kemba Walker who has already played at his best. Lin is not at his best because he’s not often put into the driver’s seat. Lin could play a lot better but he still brings in wins after wins against Cavaliers and Raptors; the best two teams in the conference.

  • Briiick

The contract is the key. If he doesn’t have the largest contract in the back court, he may not be allowed to shine at all.

  • Alain Gervais

of course less then 10 million would be a disappointment

  • Alain Gervais

especially with 6 minutes 7 million man Lamb there

after watching tonight’s game…I can say that they don’t want Lin to shine…sitting one of your best player is not a good idea

  • Alain Gervais

In matchup it was the right call. green posted lin and scored. Lin wasn’t scoring so he put MKG back in. It was either Lin or kemba.

  • MEL LIN

    true he’ll get 2.5 mil

  • MEL LIN

    so you put Lin lol

  • Alain Gervais

    ha wouldn’t that be something

  • Alain Gervais

of course but Remember kemba is irreplaceable lol Beyonce made a song about him

  • Alain Gervais

yea thats the real Lineup I’m waiting for. Which is all speed and GSw Like

  • zxcvb

Unless they trade Kemba, there’s no way Lin should stay. Even the chance to reunite with MDA is much more valuable than another year with Kancer Kemba.

It’s disgusting how a vastly inferior proven loser is allowed to start year after year while Lin is held back and punished for beating the #1 team in the conference. Again, Kemba and Cliff have never beat Lebron’s teams — not even once by fluke luck. Then Lin does it on his first try in Charlotte.

  • CJSHYY

I think Batum will stay as their #1 guy. Lin will be out.

  • Alain Gervais

Iso smith is there. Sixes have been bad since allen iverson. Continuously rebuilding. You think Lakers are bad just wait for this team. If they pay Lin and say he is the starter. Meg is calling the plays then yea i agree. But honestly stars must align

  • Barry Allen

If Kemba is still there, then Lin should leave.

Lin deserves to be a PG, and main facilitator somewhere with enough minutes to play his game, without this standing in the corner limited minutes crap.

  • zxcvb

They’re not in competition. MKG will play as much as he can handle. It’s about Kemba and to a lesser extent Lamb.

  • Rick Johnson

Good, Lin leave and the Hornets can sink back into mediocrity and obscurity and their fans and organization will keep scratching their heads wondering why.

  • sws94

I think it’s a viable option that Lin may decide to stick with Charlotte. That’s why some of us may want to think of accepting the Charlotte situation. IF he’s gone he’s gone. But who knows what Lin will do. Does Lin even know now?

  • zxcvb

Ish Smith is no long-term answer. He’s shooting horribly but still getting stats by volume (like Kemba!).

Any team that lets Lin lead will no longer be rebuilding. Brooklyn is an option for MDA/Lin as well.

  • I can’t help thinking what IF the rumor of shopping around Kemba (particularly for Greg Monroe with the Bucks) is true, then the Hornets desperately needed him to perform well tonight to be a hero?

IF the rumor is true, Kemba’s failure to win tonight just put a damper on the trade so the Hornets is stuck with Kemba $12M yearly salary for the next 3 years.

But IF the rumor is just a rumor, the Hornets is still stuck with Kemba hero-ball for the next 3 years. Batum and Lin will be leaving in the offseason since they know Kemba hero-ball would prevail over teamball.

So the moral of the story is .. the Hornets is stuck with Kemba.
You gotta feel bad for the faithful Hornets fans because it’s hard to win in playoff without teamball.

  • TTNN

    https://j.gifs.com/o2yAZz.gif

I still think this is a winnable game, but the end of game execution is really no good. Both of the play were after the time out, but hard to see what kind of play it was draw out by the coach.

So I looked at this one, 23 sec left, 2 point difference, Hornets has plenty of time to get the offense going. And it is not like there is only 6,7sec left, they have plenty of time to organize a play.

Also noticed that at this time, Lin was sub in to take MKG out, with this game how cold Lin was and how many layup Lin got blocked, I don’t think Lin was sub in for taking any shot, but he was put in to have all the playmakers on the floor, so that we could make some play to get offense going.

Then look at this play, Kemba get the ball to Batum and get it back right away. Then he drove immediately, which he don’t really need to before he organize the team first. That’s pretty much his mentality to see whether he could get his chance first. He was stopped at the paint, and then HE PICKED UP THE BALL instead of keep the dribble alive. So, he got stuck. At that time, there is still 20s on the clock, he should have plenty of time, and what he really should do is to pull back, and wait for his teammates to settle, and then give the ball to Batum and let him initiate the offense, call a play or something. No, what he did, you could see, Batum came with wide open passing lane if Kemba pass back a little bit, yet Kemba pass towards the paint, basically anticipate Batum to cut and get the ball and drive in for a layup. So he will get an assist. But his pass is too aggressive which goes right into defender’s hand.

So basically with almost a full shot clock, Kemba never let the team settle on the same page, and never organized an offense, and trying to go twice with early shot clock, which results in a turn over.

After that OT run when Kemba just ignore coach’s play calling, I’m thinking whether he is doing it again. Since in this situation, it should be just a simple in bound, then arrange for a half court play to get some higher percentage shots.

  • Briiick

Or Monroe for Lin + a big filler, why not ? I find this trade makes more sense for both teams.

  • Rick Johnson

New York Daily News: Knicks need point guard if they want to be playoff team

    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/isola-point-knicks-backcourt-article-1.2518414

Meanwhile, the Celtics have engaged the Houston Rockets in talks about a possible deal for Dwight Howard, the Daily News has learned. Howard can opt out of his contract this summer, and considering his back and knee issues, it doesn’t make much sense for Boston GM Danny Ainge to use the assets on a player with declining skills and a battered body.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Charlotte has his chance to make Lin their PG. But they choose Kemba, they deserve what they’re going to get. Kemba can do no better and Lin now can do no worse. At this point of their career, they won’t cross their path anymore than necessary. It’s up to the FO to decide. Time is running out too.

Next season, Lin will definitely be one of the most sought after free agents in the league with so many of his breath taking games this season on his resume. He has proved to be the winner going to be at his prime and he just keeps on improving season after season.

  • Alain Gervais

If they want Lin just wait haif a year. The issue is Bucks style doesn’t fit Lin

  • TTNN

sorry, messed up with names a lot, might need a refresh to see the changes.

  • Rick Johnson
  • Alain Gervais

Celtics have by far the weirdest looking team but it works for some reason

  • Unfortunately Monroe’s $18M salary would need much bigger filler.
JLin’s $2.3M + $16M of big filler (like Al Jefferson $13.5M expiring contract +$2.6M Kaminsky?)

Hornets will not give up Frank, I believe. MJ might not give up JLin if he helps the Hornets for playoff

  • Rick Johnson

Lin’s representatives should talk to Hornets about finding Lin a new home.

  • Briiick

    He is stat driven.

  • Whitman Lam

Green only scored once on Lin because Lin gambled on the reach around steal instead of holding his ground as he should have done.

  • TTNN

I have problem with his decision making. Not sure how coach could stand him. But well, this is NBA, it is player’s league.

  • Rick Johnson

Kemba probably went off script anyway.

  • Alain Gervais

i doubt he has thought about it yet. don’t know what the options are yet

  • JoeTeam

well, I always think of JLin has 35 mins, he can figure it out. He’s actually never had that job since Linsanity, except in spots and he rise more than does average when he’s the PG (Harden out, KW out). IN LAL, they didn’t want to win do didn’t matter when they had Lin in.

  • Hope

    you are crazy.

  • This perfectly illustrates Kemba’s #1 weakness in his decision-making as a PG and the ability to pass to Batum in a crucial time.

I believe this is why it’s almost better for Kemba to take his own shot because his passing can easily turn to TOs.
He’s a great scorer (albeit undersized) but is simply not a PG.

  • kauaiblue

How many does jeremy have to play like an all star bf someone trusts him to play him consistently as a starting pg??

  • ty

    well said

  • Hope

    Infinity

  • DX

    Maybe talk to other teams.

  • It really depends if there are no other starting PG offers with regular rotation time in other teams.

I’d imagine JLin must be frustrated since he had a great game vs the Cavs but his role was back in yo-yo mode.
He loves consistency so these constant change of roles must not be good.

JLin is 27 this year, I’d imagine he would want to find the best place for a coach who will trust in his game (and find regular PT and role) for him before his peak age passes him by. That place might be the Hornets next year or it might not.

But I trust JLin will make the best decision at the time based on the available options.

  • JoeTeam

    Highlights from JUN.

  • TTNN

    https://j.gifs.com/2kWG9j.gif

Second out of bound play, notice William give Batum a really good screen and Batum is completely open, yet Hawes wasn’t able to pass the ball, I have no idea why he don’t want to pass over to Batum, which his height, he should be able to see the floor clearly, and also, notice there are 10 sec left on the clock, they really don’t need to rush.

Hawes decide to pass to Williams, and he seems extrememly nervous to have the ball in his hand, and pass to Kemba in a hurry that it got knocked out.

Well, maybe not only Kemba think he should take the last shot, looks like the players thought that way too. So, no , this team is not Batum’s team, it is Kemba’s.

Not sure whether other player will get yelled at if they make mistake or not, but obviously, Kemba had the exemption, thus the player don’t want to take the big shot.

Last game coach said Lin wanted to take the big shot, wanted the ball in his hand at big time, Lin might be conscious after reporters told him that.

Kind of strange dynamic and chemistry in this team though.

  • Pete Roces

It doesn’t matter, Lin can only play as a PG with full support if only MDA is the coach. No one else in NBA can lead Lin to stardom.

  • ty

how about just getting the ball from his teammates, who are not pgs, to bring the ball up and do something with it ! Hawes and the rookie, just ridiculous.

  • MEL LIN

what representative you will never hear from them trying to find a home for Jlin. they are just there to collect the check

  • MEL LIN

sad to say but we will only see jlin play for 15 to 16 mins per game. sigh

  • JoeTeam

the highlights – … oops, moved to highlights below.

  • MEL LIN

did cliff mention about the last two TO from kemba

  • JoeTeam

    Nice.

    – JLin did v well against Bosh on the switch, at about 3:40 I think.

    – v nice missed last FT, and Hawes, MW had chance at it. Jlin still counting, but I don’t get it. So if they tap in, it’s down 1 and they have to foul right away. They’d have to get an and1, and maybe so in that traffic. Not sure how they could do it – tap out and no time for a 3. JLin prob should have stat padded?

  • TTNN

I guess if they could tap it in, then intermediately foul to stop the clock

  • heart

The clip I watched I didn’t hear it. He only talked about Whiteside and scapegoating the bench… Cliff wants the players to adjust their games, but he himself didn’t make any adjustments in defense scheme. Link:http://www.nba.com/hornets/

  • MEL LIN

yeah…blame it on the players…easy way out. Problem with his coaching is that he is yelling out his plays right in front of the Miami players.

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Not Kemba’s fault here…It looks like the play was for Batum to fade into the right corner, but Hawes was too afraid to throw it to him this far off…so he passed it to Marv who tried to pass it to Kemba.

  • MEL LIN

Not that excited for the game tomorrow

  • heart

    Yep. He’s micro-manager and pre-scripted planner.

  • MEL LIN

Not it’s not KW’s fault…it’s Jlin’s fault not helping with 11.6 secs left.

  • MEL LIN

best way is to watch the game against Cavs again to ease my pain

  • DX

I am exciting if Lin play 30 minutes.

  • MEL LIN

you’ll be lucky if he gets 3 mins

  • JoeTeam

Yeah, but then what about the other side? No time outs left and no way to advance the ball. Probably just do And1, but MW got up and got pushed down, hawes did not jump. There you go, Hawes 2x 1 per your gif analysis.

  • MEL LIN

I am very surprised after all these years of being mistreated…Jlin is still hopeful and working hard everyday….wow

  • DX

That’s good, Lin will leave immediately.

  • TTNN

maybe should tap out for a three? Lin should do what Yao did, hit the front rim, catch the rebound and pass right away to a C&S 3.

  • MEL LIN

I think Jlin should just try to score everytime he gets the ball…no more passing and team player…get your points and get out.

  • blubell
  • JoeTeam

yep that’s what I thought, he needed to hit it hard to get it all within 1+ sec. I think the and 1 was possible, but MW fell down. Tough way to end the game, good to have JLin in the thick of it. Too bad those 2 plays were wasted. If they got one, JLin is a hero but then the timeline would have changed. Sci Fi.

  • He’s a tough guy indeed.
He knows the politics dictate he’s the backup PG but he just keeps plugging along for his next best opportunity.
That’s how he got to be where he is (besides some Divine Lintervention).

That’s very admirable, to persevere no matter what happens.

  • TTNN

That’s exactly my point, it is the team’s mentality that at this time, the ball goes to Kemba…… They are playing scared, not play for the win. And Lin did not even move or try to come out.

Not sure whether Kemba broke enough plays from coach that teammates consider that’s the norm and all play should go that way, regardless what coach draw up.

  • JoeTeam

and Casspi v Lin was pretty tough in game. Good to see they are professionals and buds.

  • Casspi: “Come here, you future brother-in-law!” lol

  • JoeTeam

    poison affects silently …

  • JoeTeam

    you remember!

  • oh yes.. except Casspi’s sister was also buddy-buddy with Harden lol

  • Rick Johnson

Maybe if Rondo leaves searching for his max contract JLin will start for Sacramento and George Karl.

  • Dan Ang

With the game so close those were nail on the coffin kind of turnovers. But it happens.

  • Acbc

This is why I keep saying versatility is not what Lin needs. He needs to hone his craft as a QB /PG. in every situation, timing is the key element to a successful development of that set. With multiple moving parts on the go, THAT timing is learned and built with time and chemistry. Lin playing so few minutes without the keys to drive the second unit means no one knows when ar where a play will happen.

Lin as a starter has the luxury of time to build up some feel for how players will move in a certain set and when a window will open and close. Just like the pass to Zeller last game. Lin knew Zeller had the lead to the basket but he held on to the ball to sell a misdirection and waited until the window opened just a little and he perfectly executed that pass.

A running back must time the hole as it opens up. He could be the fastest and most powerful, but if he can’t learn to hit the hole properly, he’s never ever going to be great. A reciever has to run the pattern exactly as planned and turn correctly to the correct side to receive a ball already on its way. If he turns too early or too late, the pass will miss it’s mark or be intercepted. A QB must time all these things to enable it all to happen. Montana wasn’t the most athletic, biggest or fastest, but he understood that timing really well. He nickelled and dimed into great career. Having physical gifts only allows you to get to the stage, how you use the timing of your skills is something that separates winners from losers.

We hear a lot about hesitation as an important tool. It’s obvious Kemba doesn’t have that tool. KW has no feel for his teammates movements so how can he hesitate and wait for the offence to set. Why would he even wait when he can’t feel for when the window will open. A solo player will never get that because they can’t make use of his teammates at all, to even fake using them. They can’t feel them because they don’t need them.

Every position has its timing regulators. When to attack, when to move, where to move to, how fast or slow and how to free yourself up to be successful, that’s a learned attributes. We think learning to shoot or handle the ball is what’s important. Having skill while not knowing how to use them makes those skills useless. That’s what coaches are for but Clifford has no idea how to teach it. What makes Lin so special is that he happens to be able to find that timing for his teammates for them. That’s why he is coach Lin.

  • Rick Johnson

Good to see NBA backing up Lauren Holtkamp:

Dwight for Lin’s fav guy, IT. And they gonna hire BS as an assistant coach at the end of this season. A potpourri of Lin nemesis. So everytime Lin beats the Rockets, he’s sticking it to all of them at once. A Lin Lin situation.

  • DX

    It doesn’t work.

  • Some light NBA news.

Salah Mejri, the Mavs reserve C, talked trash to Pop after a dunk (and being down 20)
Pop just laughed and said, “What did I do?” and laughed with Tim Duncan

Mejri promptly tweeted apology post-game that it wasn’t his intention.

Wouldn’t it be dangerous to execute and inbound cross court pass like that with Justice Winslow right there? Maybe if Batum moves back towards half court it would have be possible.

  • JoeTeam

oh, boo, I didn’t read that part. oh well … Jlin continues to make the future happen.

He made an adjustment. Reduced Lins minutes. He’s a genius

  • LinJa

    Until he turns black

  • LinJa

    That’s not very PG like

  • CJSHYY

Is Casspi also a FA this summer?

  • kauaiblue

Heh heh… glad they lost and that i missed the game… i knew this was going to happen… instead had an excellent dinner with a good friend in nyc… dont get better than that…

  • kauaiblue

The blame goes to walker. If he has that much power, he needs to be responsible and held accountable.

  • zxcvb

True. Kemba is an awful PG, but he can’t change that. That’s why I think Clifford needs to be fired. Get a new coach, trade Kemba for whatever, and let Lin start as a real PG. Instant franchise fix.

Losing easily winnable games like this is the past, present and future with Kemba. Beating the Cavs by 9 with no decent bigs is just a glimpse of a Lin-led team.

  • zxcvb

Then he would have played 9m like Lamb instead of 16!

  • zxcvb

I can see Cliff desperate for a win and playing Lin big minutes…but that won’t change my opinion of him. Clifford revealed himself to be a stooge tonight. And Kemba proved once again how inferior he is to Lin as a starting PG.

  • Acbc

Scoring is for the SG to do. A PG’s main role is to facilitate and run plays. Scoring without involving teammates is pointless. It’s a loser game, that’s why Kemba is a loser.

  • zxcvb

He’s awful. Scoring by volume for himself while not defending or making plays for others is awful. His record over the past 4 years proves this beyond a doubt.

  • Yascar

Yeah, I think he’s too focused on this team and this season to think about it now. And this is why it’s sometimes frustrating to hear about theories about him wanting to leave Charlotte already. I think he’ll at least finish off the season with them, then see what his options are. Unless he gets traded, which is unlikely.

And this is also why, even in the minority here, I really want Charlotte to win as much as possible and get to the playoffs. Lin’s off season value will be much higher if the Hornets make it to the playoffs.

  • LW

Ok, the key is him not being a good PG. So when Clifford let Lin play SG with Kemba, there are actually 2 SGs and no PG on the floor. No wonder the disorder.

  • blubell
  • JoeTeam

revolving door there … tough owner?

  • Briiick

How is Rondo doing there ?

Batum is the facilitator that disappears. It becomes the Kemba show more often than not.

  • sws94

    Great.

  • Acbc

If that were the case, the Hornets would have a much better record. The record speaks for itself. You talk like you have logic behind your opinions when in fact they only have bias. How many games has kW lost already by his ISO ball hogging? Never mind the negative effect on his teammates but the sheer volumn of missed shots at the end of game is why KW is not clutch. kW is a clutze.

  • sport

Aww sweet bromance. Will we see a reunion this summer? 😀

  • sport

Lin will opt-out no matter what. Hornets have always been a 1 year rental! Just be glad MDA finally got hired and there’s finally a chance for a reunion!

  • sport

When FO gives him keys to the team or a coach like MDA who doesn’t play politics.

  • sport

Except all actions points to Kemba being the main guy, not Batum so he’s not staying especially on a non Championship team!

  • sport

People are stubborn, if last game against Cavs didn’t change anything, I doubt they ever would.

  • your son’s voltaire

some people on this site who were advocating Lin coming off the bench and playing SG kept trying to justify clifford’s treatment by saying Lin should be versatile. now that Lin showed them how versatile he is, he’s still getting the same treatment. the funny thing is, their reasoning only applies to Lin as Rondo, Paul, Wall, and Kamba never had to play SG

  • KL

Honestly I am not surprised at the backlash after Lin’s great game against the Cavs. We have seen it enough times in the past couple of years. I just didn’t want to say it earlier cause I was hoping to be wrong in my assessment.

Still I think some credit goes to Spoelstra cause he knows how to gameplan against Lin. Even without LBJ, the Heat can still defend point guards and the pick and roll very well.

The thing is that every year just reinforces my belief that Lin is a starter and one of the best PGs in the league. He may be the only NBA player averaging 20 points 6 assists (or thereabouts) as THE PG starter, during various periods stretched over many years and yet hardly gets to start.

He is in a tricky situation now. Everything is up in the air for next season.

  • joyce ward
  • Barry Allen

Sadly, Lin is treated with the most bias I have seen in the NBA.

How many other healthy players have their position changed and minutes cut in half after a 24/8 game where their team won?

  • your son’s voltaire

is he being forced to play SG and standing in the corners to shoot 3’s?

  • Phillycheese

If all you look at is his assist numbers, then he is doing great. Can’t shoot, afraid to get fouls, allows the defense to totally sag and if not for amazing play from Cousins, Rondo’s stats would totally suck.

  • adele

Both. Kemba got his stats already got his minutes. He is hurt. He should get his needed rest until Asg. But he got his ego too. He doesn’t want Lin to take over his team.

  • Phillycheese

If Lin was given a real chance to beat out Kemba then I think he should stay. If Kemba is anointed the starter then I think Lin may be better off elsewhere, unless Batum leaves. If Batum leaves then I think Lin will get the facilitator role. With Batum and MKG starting, they can hide Kemba’s lack of defense some what. Against the taller back courts (eg Milwaukee, Washington, Cleveland, Miami, LAL, NOL, Detroit, OKC) I think Lin should get the start. Against smaller backcourts (eg. LAC, Atlanta, Boston, Houston, SAC and GSW) then Kemba is the better option. I’m not sure they should play together that much.

  • adele

I know already that if Kemba plays, it’s hard for them to win. That’s the bottom line. The hornets team deserve this loss. They already know the difference between Lin and Kemba as point guard. They still insist on Kemba running their losing show? I don’t understand why the team doesn’t want excitement in their games if they only let Lin run the show at least until asg. Sigh!

  • adele

Kemba is an artificial star. Period.

  • adele

The FO has a hand in these situations also.

  • adele

Really? At the expense of Lin? With Lin doing all the hard work and running around and stand in the corner? And the result? Loss? No way! They can have their Kemba. I’m not rooting for them if Lin is not the pg and not running the show.

  • adele

Yes. I prayed for that loss. Sorry but they don’t deserve that win.

  • adele

That’s why we follow him and care about him even if he is not the face of any franchise ‘yet’

  • adele

    Sure!

  • adele

    Very smart indeed!

  • Dorothy

I am curious what reactions are from Hornets fans after winning LBJ but loosing to Heat,

  • Dorothy

mmm, I think in Clifford’s mind Kemba is the one can win the game for him, not Lin.

  • David Kim

Philadelphia 76ers: Point guard Ish Smith is set to become a free agent on July 1. Smith wants to re-sign with the Sixers, but will they offer him a contract? “You look at not only the [2016] free agents, but ’17, ’18, and ’19, and when do you really pull the trigger,” chairman of basketball operations Jerry Colangelo told The Philadelphia Inquirer. “When is it the right timing? So you just have to continually raise the boat. Lift the boat on all levels, and then make those decisions when it comes down to it.” … With the way Smith fits in Brett Brown’s system, it seems re-signing him would be a lock.

    Lin to sixers next season?

  • joyce ward

I think lin knew he didn’t have a chance a making a shot with Whiteside. I think Lin was trying to get him into foul trouble. Also I think Cliff knew he blew this game with his bad coaching and substitutes, that he was looking for a scape goat. When has a coach ever blamed the bench for a loss. Your bench is your bench, not your starters. That is why he is so full of it. Anybody who defends his coaching choices he made in this game is full of it too.

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Did he really blamed the bench for the lost on his press-conference?

That is an horrible thing to do if he did.

  • joyce ward

    Yes he did.LOL

  • joyce ward

How is that on lin to fix, when you got everybody playing PG except lin. Please stop the madness.

  • joyce ward

Kemba is a one trick pony at best. Lin is often put in to cover the defense for both he and Batum. Last night was a very bad game because you had batum/walker trying to play hero ball toward the end, instead of settling down and using good decision to make better plays. That is what lin has in spades over both these players. If they had let lin control the game in the end, they probably could have pulled it out.

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Wesley Matthew….Yes, the same Matthew that the Mavericks gave 16M per/4 years, instead of signing Lin for a couple million.

Matthew is averaging 12.1PPG with a shooting line of 38%FG and 34% 3FG…For 16Mil per, that is horrible stats.

    For 2 mil, Lin is avg. 12.4PPG on 42%FG, 32% 3Pts.

They also decided to sign Deron Williams instead of Lin..Deron is 31 year old…He’s missed a bunches of game already this year and has a huge history of being injury prone while Lin has been very durable in the league.

    Deron is making 5Mil per..His stats line: 13.7PPG,… 5.3 assist…41.2%FG…..33.5% 3Pts…All this under about 32minute per game.

Mavericks could had gotten better production with Lin for only 2 million and Lin would had put better stats than Deron under 32 minutes per game since he’s putting 12ppg and 3 assist under 27mpg in Charlotte.

  • Barry Allen

I just see people speaking their mind about Kemba’s basketball skills. Seems fine to me. Having no negative talk about anyone’s game is just artificial.

  • joyce ward

Look at the Heat, they paid Dragic $80 million dollars and his stats are:

12.1 PP, 5.3 assist, 46%FG, 32% 3Pts. So this tells you some much about the NBA and their prejudices and preferences.

  • Barry Allen

That’s exactly right. Why play Lin out of position and give him 16 minutes when he clocked in 24 points and 8 assists against the Cavs last game?

  • KL

I read an article much earlier, (before this season even started), about how Mo Williams took over last season when Kemba was injured for a stretch. Mo played well and the team started winning. There was even hope that they would make the playoffs. Then when Kemba came back from injury, they promptly started losing again and eventually missed the playoffs.

I think Clifford is trying to force the issue by making Lin play as SG. As a PG, even as a backup PG, Lin can easily outshine Walker. The level of accommodation for Walker is tearing the team apart and sinking their playoff hopes.

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

    .

If Lin can keep his stats up, there won’t be any excuse not to offer him a good contract.

The Mavs probably really felt Matthew and Deron were the better players…I personally would had signed Lin instead of Deron simply because Deron is injury prone and hasn’t really been the same player since all the injuries..He was considered at one point a top 5 guard in the league…kind of like Rose.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

The best judge of a team is their opposition. The coach, GM and even the owner can choose whatever they will but it’s the opposition who grades their decision.

  • Yascar

Yes he’s not a whiner at all. He plays for the team, roots for his teammates and he wants to win all the time. Even in the toxic Lakers.

People from all walks of life would do well to follow his example.

  • Barry Allen

The only excuse is skin deep.

  • Yascar

If you are really interested you should take a peek in ATH. The game articles tend to be a bit meh with sometimes quite glaring factual errors but the comments are interesting. There’s support there for Lin, but from a somewhat different perspective to how it usually is here.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Jeremy so far has made his case of starting convincingly with his record. He stepped in for Batum and outperformed Batum. He stepped in for Walker and he brought in the victory that Walker couldn’t. He did it through being overused; playing over 50 minutes a night. He also made good through being underused. Walker played over 36 minutes to lose but the other night Lin was only given 32 minutes to win easily over the conference leader.

If Hornets wants to go to playoff, they can’t afford not to use their best lineup and their best PG. I have stated more than once that the last minutes play of Walker have never worked out for Clifford. Walker’s last shot hasn’t brought in wins for the team.

  • Yascar

Nice find. I searched for the complete article because of your snippet here. It seems to be saying they might draft a guard and that’s why they are not committed to Smith even though they like him a lot.

Idk guys, what if Lin moves there then ends up backing up a rookie while they develop the team? Even Colangelo thinks they’ll need time to rebuild.

  • Dorothy

I am afraid Clifford does not think so, otherwise, he would not only draw plays for Kemba for the big shots…

  • grover chang

I don’t think people here are saying walker can’t play. We always focus on the negative because he so flawed compared to Lin. Walker is useful but just a weird fit so hornets keep losing if he is involved too much. Too focus on shooting to be a point guard and too short to be a shooting guard. When he is on the court it is like they are always short one player, the point guard.

Walker reminds me of nick young. Good guy. Streaky shooter. But shorter and doesn’t play defense. Hard to win like that.

  • joyce ward

I bet MJ somewhere, what happened? What I saw was Walker playing out of his natural element and he was looking quite uncomfortable doing it. I think both Batum/Walker are very mediocre players at best. They are not as good as they think they are. The game played last night and the game against the Cavs were as different as night and day. This game could have been easily won, if they had involved lin in the offense more. There have been too many games been lost between Batum/Walker down the stretch because of their poor decision making.

  • MEL LIN

yes because he is a SG

  • grover chang

Exactly, “night and day”. Everyone on the team could see the difference and its obvious the only change was Walker for Lin. Who knows what various reasons are to keep this charade going.

  • Phillycheese

Because his role is to back up Kemba. That is reality, whether we like it or not. They are not going to ditch Kemba for Lin. All of us think that is a mistake but not much we can do about it.

  • donsmacau

Nobody starts above JLIN at point guard on a D’Antoni team.

  • Phillycheese

They know Lin will be professional and not cause too much ripples. If Kemba ever sat, the lockerroom would be fractured.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Your co-captain lost it on two consecutive TOs.

  • Phillycheese

    Steve Nash would.

  • Phillycheese

and hopefully some team will see Lin’s performance and will try to sign him. But for that to happen, Charlotte better make the playoffs where the profile for Lin and the team will be higher.

  • kauaiblue

    Adele, u rock!

  • Phillycheese

All Lin needs is one proven season with big stats. But Lin is not selfish and will not do that to get paid. Lots of players don’t play for stats and find a good home. Igoudala, Battier, Horry. Hope Lin will get his home soon, eve if it turns out to be the Hornets.

  • Phillycheese

Wes Matthews contract was silly – max for a wing who came off major surgery? Madness. And paying pretty boy? Madness. I don’t want Lin anywhere near Dallas.

  • donsmacau

There is a GM & Coach following JLIN’s every move right now, don’t need the playoffs

    JLIN to Sixers!

  • Phillycheese

No way. Sixers are a creampuff team right now. They need to get rid of Nerlens or Okafor for some wing defenders. Need more shooters.

  • donsmacau

They need and will get JLIN.

Who else in the NBA leads a rag-tag team who previously lost 23 straight to Lebron to a WIN without Kemba & Al, their 2 best scorers?

  • Kwok Wai Lai

All I know is Kemba missed big shots.

  • Yascar

How do you know for sure? And it’s not even a D’Antoni team, it’s Brown’s right now.

I’m not being facetious, it’s an honest question. I get that Jeremy and MDA have a special relationship, but D’Antoni for all we know could be as much a puppet in the politics of the Sixers as people seem to think Cliff is.

Jeremy will have a lot to think about when the season is over for sure.

  • cdblue10

At least 3 more consecutive losses and Hornets will have a rude awakening. Can’t blame Lin because he will be playing 16-18 minutes from now on w/ just 2 mil $ on his tag.

  • Phillycheese

Yea, I can’t see Lin playing more than 25 min from now on, unless there are more injuries. Not that I am wishing for injuries.

  • Dorothy

Thanks. Looks like a lot of Hornets fans agree with Clifford that the bench lost the game LOL
Great, play more the starters to have more loses then.

  • Acbc

Lin will sign with MDA anywhere he coaches, period. End of discussion. Lin chose Hornets as a stepping stone to wait for a chance to reunite with MDA. Here is his chance. Lin took less money this year for better coaching. He could take vet minimum just to be a backup to ish with Sixers if need be. At least with MDA, once he explodes, he’ll be recognized by a coach who’ve seen linsnaity first hand.

WHY WOULD LIN WANT TO STAY WITH A DUMB ORG LIKE THE HORNETS.

  • Acbc

Lin will join Sixers at the end of season. That’s where MDA is now. Lin will sign with which ever team has MDA as coach.

  • Acbc

Brooklyn is only an option is Brian Colangelo becomes GM as well. MDA will not want to leave Jerry Colangelo for just any situation. With Jerry backing MDA, he can run the team his way and players will either play his system or be traded. MDA has had Melo and Kobe kick him off teams with no backing from weak GMs.

  • ty

Unfortunately, too much invested in Walker (like a money pit, vacation condo, you just can’t let go), along with the old eye test (Walker moves like a Ferrari and Lin, relatively speaking, moves like a Camry), makes a switch (Lin as starting PG) highly unlikely.

  • KHuang

    I’m happy with Lin’s game.

Through Lin’s career, I’ve only expected him to do his best in whatever limited role he’s given.

Clearly, Clifford was playing politics again. After Lin’s singlehanded beatdown of the Cavs, Clifford didn’t want Kemba Walker all jealous and enraged. So Clifford let Walker brick and turnover the game away.

Kemba got the loss that he wanted on 20 points of bad efficiency. Clifford made sure team politics were “normal”. And Lin played TEAMBALL and produced all game despite his very limited bench scrub role. EVERYBODY IS HAPPY.

  • KHuang

Dragic is max contract also, and Lin’s outperforming him.

It’s all about RACE, not production.

  • Dorothy

So, Clifford blamed the bench lost the game. Has he been as quickly praising the bench when the bench won the game for him??? btw, the game was lost by his starters, especially his star players Kemba and Batum LOL

  • KHuang

Lin’s had THREE seasons of BIG STATS.

In my working experience, no amount of production overcomes racial prejudice.

  • KHuang

    NO HE WOULDN’T.

Steve Nash and Lin are from different eras, plus Nash is retired!

  • KHuang

It’s not as if the rest of the Hornets could score either.

  • KHuang

    NO

    TERRIBLE.

Rondo is KILLING the Kings by only passing to Cousins.

Because Rondo breaks the plays, nobody other than Cousins touches the ball. So opponents are DESTROYING the Kings.

Not surprisingly, the Kings are better without Rondo than with him.

  • KHuang

Kemba played selfish, made critical ballhog turnovers, and shot poorly.

  • KHuang

Oh, it’s all about Clifford trying to kiss up to Walker.

    That’ll be Clifford’s downfall.

  • Dorothy

Why kissing up the worst starting PG (of course except Beverly) in the league?

  • ty

    perception trumps reality (most times)

  • joyce ward

Lin isn’t only backup for Kemba, but also Batum, so what’s your point?

  • adele

I’m not happy Khuang. And nobody is happy with a loss.

  • KHuang

Actually, Kemba is indeed worse than Beverley.

At least Houston has figured out how to sort of limit Beverley’s damage.

Walker is out of control and getting worse every game.

  • KHuang

    ok ok

    Lin should have played more.

  • KHuang

But I do wish for Batum and Walker to play less and for Lin to play more or be WAIVED.

  • adele

At least the only consolation is that there’s less risk of injury and save the mileage. Lol. Lin doesn’t need to prove his worth anymore

  • adele

Good for them. They don’t deserve Lin there. They don’t deserve to win!

  • adele

Yes Clifford is really smart huh?

  • adele

🙂 but Clifford can’t give him more minutes and Kemba has to run the show.

  • sws94

He has some Nick Young in him. Walker is what he is. He creates for himself when he feels he can take over games. He did make an attempt to play teamball for most of the game. I think most of the game the ball went through Batum but then defaulted to Kemba late because Nic is not a late-game crunch time performer.

  • sws94

Yes, that’s about how I see it as well. My approach is that both Kemba and Lin have strengths and flaws and Clifford isn’t really figuring out how to use Lin’s strengths more and limits Kemba’s mentality that he has to heroball or where his total lack of court vision and passing skills hurt the team in the crunch. Not that Kemba lacks talent. I acknowledge the talent he has and he has hit big winning shots for his team. I think he honestly feels that he helps his team by scoring and being a hero.

I think what Acbc is missing from my perspective is that I think the team lives and dies with Kemba. That’s a crutch. When he’s good and makes enough shots, they win. They won plenty with him making big shots earlier this season. When he’s bad and misses not only shots, but open players, they lose. It’s not one or the other, it’s both.

  • sws94

I think he’s doing great for Rondo’s strengths. I dislike Rondo’s game because of what you state. But he’s doing much better for Sac. than for Mavs in terms of his attitude and involvement and how he impacts the game. But Rondo, as you correctly point out, is a limited player. I’ve never liked his game or him personally.

  • Hope

Lin is to sit out today game while waiting for the trade to the 76ers to complete – I hope.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    No sixers this season

  • KHuang

Lin starting ahead of Ish Smith would have an easier time beating Cleveland or Golden State with the Sixers lineup than with Charlotte’s lineup.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Didn’t have the energy or play well.

    That’s the blame.

  • KHuang

Put Lin on ANY team as the starting PG with a coach that doesn’t hate him or prioritize lesser players over him.

That team would win 50 games minimum every season, even if they were the NBA’s worst team from the season before.

  • KHuang

If Charlotte simply ran its damn offense, Whiteside would not have done anything against the Hornets.

  • sws94

Their offense was run fine before he came in. He made a difference. Also, you have to knock down perimeter shots and guys on the first unit, Batum, Kemba at times and especially Marvin were. Guys on the 2nd unit, Kaminsky, Hawes, Lamb weren’t. So then what do you do? Go at Whiteside and take your chances. But that didn’t work out.

  • Barry Allen

Lin is never happy in a loss.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

That’s the big deal because he didn’t have to explain clutch time.

  • Barry Allen

Sadly, we’ve seen this tale before. They aren’t appreciative of Lin’s talent or work against the Cavs or they would have given him more than 16 minutes. If they keep going down this route they are destined to fail.

I mean getting only 16 mins after a 24 points/8 assist performance win over the Cavs? That’s unforgivable.

  • donsmacau

Whiteside can’t be in all places at once.

Ball movement was missing because everyone besides the best pg on the team wanted to play PG incl. Hawes, Lamb, Kemba & Batum thus the sticky ball and iso-shots.

Oh but guess what, Clifford pulled the man that inspires teamplay, find-the-open man basketball. A brand of ball that neutralizes shot blockers because they cant be everywhere.

  • sws94

btw, I think Cliff had a very poor game. He should have ran Lin, MKG, Batum, Marvin and Cody for much of this game. He should have asked MKG and Lin to push the pace. That’s a lineup that needs to play significant minutes. And I do think Kemba should play 5-6 less minutes overall.

  • sws94

Batum was doing a fine job facilitating. The thing with basketball is, matchups matter as well as coaching defensive schemes. This night, to me, looked like a Batum night. Problem with that is, Batum is not a big player in crunch time. Then it all falls apart. That’s why you bring Lin in to make plays also. But Lin against the Heat has not resulted in a lot of Linsanity games. You can say Spo has his number or what but that’s real. Still, this was a close game and mostly played well by the first unit. And give Whiteside credit, he had a monster defensive game and a triple-double. He was a boss out there.

Overall I’m hearing a lot of Lin has to be “the man” every night. And it’s a different night, different COACH which matters a lot, and different matchup and team styles. So Lin wasn’t the man the night after a great game. A baseball player can go 4 for 4 one night and the next night have a golden sombrero. It happens.

  • grover chang

Anyone else excited about the big game tonight? I don’t mean the hornets and wizard game because we know that is a lost. I’m talking about warriors vs. Thunder.

Thunder is the only team left who could beat the warriors. Although I really wish I could see a Lin led hornets vs the warriors.

  • donsmacau

This loss was completely on an utterly incompetent & outcoached Clifford
    – Who allowed DWade & Bosh to make BIG PLAYs over tired STARTERS
    – Starters KW,Cody,MKG went 13-32 shots vs. 4-20 bench – bad shooting all around not just bench.
    – Cliff allowed Starters to get off ZERO attempts in critical Inbounds plays
    – Cliff lives by the 3pt and dies by it – never mind ball movement beat East#1 Cavs.
    – Thinks punishing players with docked PT is a better solution than “coaching”
    – Don’t always expect Bench to defend your small 6pt starter leads

Well earned loss by Clifford who facilitated loss singlehandedly

  • sws94

Spo beat Cliff. Spo is way better.

  • sws94

I don’t know that tonight’s game is a loss at all. You play the game and see what happens.

As for OKC and GSW, I’m not on the GSW bandwagon. They are just a dominant team to me and I like the underdogs like Charlotte with lower-profile players like Lin and I’m also liking MKG. No fan of Westbrook, less of a fan of Durant than I used to be and I’m just meh on GSW. They’re great, Curry’s great, and I understand excitement around them. But I don’t like Kerr due to a large part of his attitude about Lin and mostly, I respect GSW but am not invested in anything they do. I think they are the champs again this season.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Clifford is a snake. This team deserved what they got last night.

Kemba was also a self calculator. He chose to sit out on game vs the Cavs to show how badly the Hornets would miss him but instead lin showed the Hornets were better of without Kemba. Kemba rushed to get back to stop lin exposing him any further.

Game like last night will continue to happen till the end of the season. Lin will not get more than 20 min if everyone is healthy so stop your nonsense about the Hornets would be a good organization for lin.

  • Hope

Totally. Those hornets girls aren’t even hot. Geez.

  • Greg from Sportige summarized one reality for JLin’s Hornets role in his article
“Jeremy Lin Disappointed With Reality on the Charlotte Hornets”

This wasn’t a very good game for Lin. It wasn’t a good game for the Charlotte Hornets. It’s not just on Clifford. A player is part of the equation. But this was probably the game Lin learned that the only way he gets a big and right role on this team is through other player injuries. He played a fantastic game in order to beat the best team in the Eastern conference, and all it got him was getting sent back to the bench and weird minute allocation from Clifford. Hard to expect any kind of motivation from him when that’s the reality he’s facing.

I believe Lin already know that a long time ago.

  • I believe JLin already knows he’s always going to play behind Kemba.
And this game was scripted to feature Kemba’s heroic ball as the #1PG

Humanly speaking, Lin must still be disappointed to not be given more minutes after that huge game vs the Cavs.
He likes this team but this happened.

I guess the good news is Lin will continue his search to find his home next season

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Look at the final play, Clifford tried to throw Lin a piece of fake chicken bone. Lin was nothing but a decoy and he didn’t even inbound the ball, wth? Even that Lin was the only one put up points on the board, no one else.

  • absolutely true!
    Character and leadership matters

  • well said!

Lin’s innate ability as a PG with timely passing & misdirection is such a stark contrast with Kemba’s and Batum’s ability to score but not to pass.

It makes me wonder if Hornets is doing such a smoke-and-screen to sell high on Kemba but then again time is running out on the Hornets to show they appreciate what Lin has to lead them to win.

I guess we’ll just continue to watch what MJ’s next move will be if he wants to keep his biggest summer acquisition

Wow! This is the season for record high that coach to be fired….

  • donsmacau

Clifford is laughably transparent. Everyone in the Western Hemisphere knows the ball goes to Kemba …

… Kafkaesque that Clifford in his own little universe is the only man in the entire stadium that thinks Spoelstra and Heat would be surprised that Kemba ultimately gets the ball.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Great players are not remembered by games they dominated. They are remembered by games they step up to the occasion to win game in crunch time. Final plays showed Kemba and Batum are fool of gold with no execution.

  • DX

If no new injury, Lin mainly get 15-20 minutes per game. That means no warm up, Lin need to get hot immediately then he may stay longer.

  • sws94

If that’s the case, then Horry should be remembered. I don’t think that’s totally right. They are remembered for games they play well in, or dominate, as well as step up in crunch time. And Batum and Kemba are not equal here. Batum doesn’t step up. Kemba at times absolutely does.

After a huge win when Jeremy Lin led the Hornets to beat LeBron James and the Cavs after 6 years of losing (23 games) in Kemba’s absence, he was not much utilized in the loss against the Heat. The script was to have Kemba come back as the lead PG but things didn’t go according to the script. Hassan Whiteside was dominating with a triple-double including 10 blocks. Both the 2nd unit and starters struggled against him. But we also saw how the 2nd unit did not rely on JLin to set up their offense, which was disheartening to see after seeing what JLin can do as the PG in the Cavs win.

    1. Would we see the same 2nd unit dynamics tonight of JLin not being trusted as the PG?

    2. Would Clifford rely on JLin’s playmaking with the starters to close the game?

Things never go smoothly with JLin’s career but we know he always persevere to give his best to his team when his number is called. He doesn’t need to be the #1 scorer but he can offer the best playmaking to allow the Hornets to play team-ball necessary to win.

Let’s go, JLin! Let’s pray and hope that he manages to be 100% healthy soon before to help the Hornets to win

  • Cousins is winning his battle vs George Karl
The same old story of NBA divas getting coaches fired

  • sws94

Karl is a quality coach. Maybe too old school for today’s primadonna’s? Don’t know but Cousins is a huge diva with anger management issues. Great talent, but needs to work a lot on his professionalism and leadership.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Have seen many times before. History does repeat. This time is much worse, MKG is in full speed.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Lin gets his only when Batum was injury and MKG was still out. He didn’t even get to play PG with Robert on the floor until game vs the Cavs.

I tried being a player-coach in junior college with the Chinese club team. It was impossible to play and analyse play at the same time. I had to take myself out of the game to be effective. A coach is responsible for overseeing how an offence or defence is run. If it is breaking down, it’s your job to fix it before it’s too late.

A PG is the head of the team and the teammates are the extremities of his body. The brain operates the legs and arms as if they are SG, SF, Pf and C. They move as one body and execute plays set in motion by the brain. The coach is the game master that operates the player. It’s how he plans strategy and in game tactics that cause the end results of that game. It’s impossible to play both roles at once.

To download that responsibility to Lin is irresponsible and pure fabrication. A coach must play the game master’s game to help the players execute proper game strategy and especially tactical changes to counter opponents misdirections and counters. That’s what he’s paid to do.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Kemba stepping up means the entire team has to step down or step a side, that is not the meaning of step up.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Yes the minutes. Lin only played more when Batum and/or Lamb were out. Now MKG is healthy it will be less min for Lin.

  • sws94

I’m talking about the ability to take and make big shots in crunch time. Kemba does that. Batum doesn’t have that quality. Horry had that quality. Kerr did. To deny that Kemba doesn’t step up and can hit big shots is to deny what has transpired during many games this season.

You’re defining something differently than what I’m saying. He has an ability in a particular way to step up as a game’s closer in terms of making big shots. I didn’t say any other way. Batum doesn’t do it by shots, facilitating, or defensively. They aren’t the same.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Don’t care about Lamb. He has much to learn too. The man plays point more than he should for a SG.

Fact is Lin won’t see anywhere close to 25 min or maybe even below 20.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

It didn’t happen because of injuries, what so hard for you to digest the facts?

  • MEL LIN

I agree. He needs to get out of there asap. I do sincerely love Charlotte, like the fans very supportive and media as well

  • GameWatcher

You have very high standards 😉

  • heart

Very well said. I have been meaning to write about this. If we listen carefully and read between the line in his post-game interview, Cliff actually points his finger at Lin when he blamed the loss on the bench, bc Lin was actually the one drove to the basket. Lin didn’t have enough time to get into rhythm and he knew Whiteside was the problem, thus he tried to get Whiteside into foul trouble. Cliff couldn’t see that to adjust the defense scheme, instead he put it on the players to adjust and to avoid Whiteside in the paint and just shoot from outside? That’s futile and uninspiring bb. So now, we have our first taste of his overt blame and he points directly to Lin, IMO.

Can’t be easy being a nba coach. Coach to win and upset the diva, you are gone. Coach to the diva and lose, you are gone. Only way it works is to coach to a star who wants to be coached to a win. Duncan, Jordan, Bird, Kobe/Shaq, Curry. etc.

  • grover chang

LOL, you know you would drop everything if one wanted to go out with you.

  • Sueki

he is a professional and that why he deserves our LOVE

  • Whitman Lam

He was trying to draw fouls on Beno Udrih, who he pump faked to get him to jump into the air. Then he leans into Udrih for the shot, which probably wasn’t going to go in anyway. Refs didn’t call the foul.

  • Michael

Yeah , that wasn’t setting up a teammate kinda pass a PG would make, that was a hot potato move when backed into a corner. Quite painful to watch.
