G31 LAC @CHA Game Thread

The Hornets is currently #9th in the Eastern Conference standing with 17-13 record. With Jeremy Lin and Hawes out, it will be a tough test for the Hornets. Blake Griffin is out for the Clippers but Chris Paul, Deandre Jordan are still tough

  • Will Kemba and Batum be able to stick to team-ball and great ball movement to win an important game? Or will they have to resort to their individual performance?
  • How will the Hornets defense perform without JLin’s contribution in PnR defense that Coach Clifford has often praised lately?

It will be an interesting game to watch how the Hornets play without Jeremy Lin. Let’s go, Hornets!

Guess JLin's stats in Game 32 vs TOR (if he plays)

  • Briiick

    1st

  • DX

2nd, no Lin, no win, no watch.

  • sws94

First time Lin isn’t playing this season in a regular-season game. Heal up Lin, take all the time you need before playing again.

  • blubell

No problem. Gives us more time to spend with family 🙂

  • DX

Yes, just booked restaurant. Maybe check the scores when have time.

  • sws94

Al out, they are waiting for results from an MRI.

  • 1mtoldman

maybe everyone already knows this but the official reason for lin not playing by charlotte pr twitter in response to the question: “whats wrong with lin?” is:

    sprained right ankle.

  • occupatio

should i watch, just to see hornets trampled without lin?

  • sws94

Clifford: Al Jefferson has discomfort in knee. Batum is going to try to get warmed up and if his toe feels OK he’ll play. Lin has an ankle sprain and they think it’s more realistic he’ll play Friday. –from today’s pre-game interview

  • sws94

More Jeremy Lamb, Roberts will play, Lin was counted on to play D on JJ Reddick and it’s a big matchup issue tonight. Troy Daniels may try to play Reddick if needed. –Clifford.

  • occupatio

troy trying to guard reddick would be the joke of the season.

  • cdblue10

Just log in,is Lin playing tonite?

  • occupatio

all indications by the org is that lin is not playing tonite

  • cdblue10

    Thanks,ahhh I’m off,lucky me!

  • sws94

Cliff says he was in Houston with McGrady and Yao and what they both wanted was a better 3rd scorer. He said the star players can’t do it by themselves over 82, they need each other and support from others. He was asked if Griffin and Paul do better when they don’t play together. Cliff doesn’t think so over the long term. They can’t put up huge numbers alone for a sustained period.

  • sws94

Agreed, he’d be way overmatched. Troy doesn’t have much of a game besides a really good shooting stroke.

  • sws94

He said also you need that 3rd guy to get you over the top. Used GSW for example. He said in addition to Steff and Klay, you have Draymond. The third guy makes a big difference. Can he perhaps think of Lin as a 3rd guy? Not sure, but maybe on some nights at least he is.

  • sws94

Lin is officially not playing tonight. Clifford indicated he looks on schedule to play on Friday night. Said that looked realistic at this time.

  • occupatio

all three are wing players, so none of them can be the 3rd guy. too much redundancy.

need a big as one of the 3.

  • cdblue10

I’ll still going to watch,it’s a good evaluation for the team on how they can used him on future games.

  • sws94

I’m watching it. Just not as intently as when Lin plays and is on the court.

  • sws94

Ewing pretty much said Lin is the best guy off of the bench in his pre-game with Patrick interview. Next in line was Frank. Lamb has really fallen.

  • sws94

Looks like Nic is playing tonight.

  • I am The Jason

Lets take it one step further. Lin is one of the top 3 players on the Hornets. Lin, Batum, and Walker are keeping the Hornets relevant in the tight playoff race in the East.

  • sws94

I think he is. Lin, coming off of bench or not, is the 3rd best player on the team.

  • donsmacau

Tonight folks JLIN misses his first Hornet’s game.

May seem insignificant but it actually holds much significance depending on how the rest of the team plays it could significantly affect:
    1) JLIN’s next contract. (Since essentially he is on a 1 yr deal w/Plyr-opt-out)
    2) What Hornets may offer.
    3) What Other Teams may offer. (Yes Sixers Colangelo and D’Antoni probably tracking)
    4) How Clifford may utilize JLIN after digesting results of this game.

So I will watch even though my favorite player is a DNP. Because this game has importance beyond the surface.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Such a low standard you set for Lin. Lin killed Kemba in every match up in the past.

Best guy off the bench aka Lin is a good backup PG. You get that?

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Lin has always beaten Kemba when they play against each other. Repeat after me, Lin is the best pg of the team.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

He’s gone. Don’t know where but he’s gone.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Want to witness weakness? Watch the Hornets without Lin, now.

  • Correct.

How will the Hornets play without JLin against a good team?
Tonight we’re about to find out what and if the team is missing JLin.

It might take a few games to have a good assessment but tonight is the 1st game.

    Another question is:
Can Kemba or Batum elevate their game in JLin’s absence?
Lin produced 35pts in the TOR game in Batum’s absence

  • Paul Pierce drained 2 treys to make it 6-0

  • sws94

Would you stop it. I just relayed what Patrick Ewing said, a coach for the Hornets. Chill out.

  • Kemba’s 3 made it 3-6

  • sws94

Stop it now or I will completely ignore you. You were doing fine for awhile but chill out and chill out now.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

You need to stop invoke hatred double standard to Lin in this Lin’s forum. Otherwise, expect response.

  • I am The Jason

They are not weak. The Hornets are just short handed today. Granted they are short handed an impact player.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Just need to tell you what it meant when you were so excited with that negative comment.

  • cdblue10

    that’s a flop

  • CP3 just made a tough shot like Lin’s And-1

    10-3 Clippers now

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    All starters are available.

  • Redick’s buzzer beater 3 made it 13-3

This is going to be a long night for the Hornets

  • CP3? maybe

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    Aren’t you entertained?

  • cdblue10

That’s a crazy 3 by Rddick,on stand still position with the clock running down

  • cdblue10

    yeah

  • sws94

Well, hopefully this time out helps. But I don’t like how they look at all so far. Especially Kemba. He’s forcing and needs to calm down.

  • I am The Jason

The starters normally dig a hole so there is nothing new there. Lin comes off the bench and with him not playing that will have an impact. It does not make the Hornets weak.

  • sws94

You don’t tell me anything. Just chill out and I won’t tolerate you trying to get condescending either. Just breathe and leave me alone for awhile.

  • By Clippers? =)

Kemba tried hard to take over offense but they need more ball movement

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Just remember, this is Lin’s forum, not Kemba, not Batum, not Clifford etc. Don’t put down the only Asian guy who already experienced double standards.

  • Alain Gervais

this could be a blow out

  • Batum was a game-time decision due to sprained toe?
Kemba might feel the need to carry the scoring load

  • cdblue10

Paul is getting multiple screens,Imagine if Lin is allowed to do that either with starter or the bench,Hornets should be a more dangerous team

  • Alain Gervais

al jefferson out 6 weeks wow

  • sws94

Jefferson out for another 6 weeks at least. I guess you guys saw that.

  • 1mtoldman

    i can see lin’s hair.

  • wow.. torn lateral meniscus requiring surgery

  • JJ Hui

Let’s see how efficeint or choking without Lin!

  • Rick Johnson

Didn’t Lin have similar surgery? He was out more than 6 weeks.

  • LinMad

I wasn’t planning to watch but I’m gonna watch now to see how the team is without Lin

  • Alain Gervais

look like pj will take lin minutes lamb getting no love

  • takemeback2reaganyears

When the hole gets bigger by the starters (your words) and the bench “have impact”, It makes them weak.

  • cdblue10

Batum is so good with that hand over 3

  • LinMad

what a bad season for Al

  • Nice Batum/Zeller connection.

I like Batum as playmaker than Kemba

  • LinMad

    so is Lin’s injury serious?

  • 1mtoldman

    offically sprained right ankle

  • Alain Gervais

depends how big the tear is

  • sws94

He’s a good player. I like his game. He has flaws like anyone else but he does a lot of good things on the floor. Kemba isn’t a natural playmaker, more of a natural shooter with great handles.

  • I am The Jason

He might be out longer than that. Al might be back in March.

  • sws94

I don’t think so. Sprained ankle and probable for Friday’s game.

  • sws94

Tough season for him for sure.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Wow you couldn’t agree with Jason saying Lin is the top 3 best. 3rd best? WOW that’s hater.

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Is Lin on the bench in street cloth?…Any image of him?

  • very true. Batum is a good secondary playmaker

The Hornets just need to put players in their natural position (Lin/Kemba/Batum as PG/SG/SF) to unleash the maximum potential but politics and Kemba’s size get in the way

  • takemeback2reaganyears

in Suite with hair spike up

  • cdblue10

Frank is gonna be a solid player on Hornets team,2 more years and he will be a prime player

  • 1mtoldman

i posted below i can see his hair

  • Here’s a screenshot of JLin on a suit on the bench (far left)

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Their best point guard is out today.

  • LinMad

we don’t really have a rebounder on our team. That’s our weakness

  • good rest .. let’s hope he comes back strong very quickly

  • cdblue10

If Frank will learn how to use his body and arm in creating his shots,he will be unstoppable in the paint.

  • Briiick

It’s still early, but looks like a blow-out lose.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

They don’t have a real pass first pg either.

  • LinMad

    the hornets?

  • Lance Stephenson got the rain of boos as he fouled Hansbrough

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    Much needed rest.

  • Too bad Hansbrough only plays sparingly.
Lin/Hansbrough should really strengthen the bench

  • sws94

Kemba doesn’t have the versatility to play SG. He should sometimes at least, but he’s limited and the least flexible of the 3. Batum and Lin have great versatility.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    Yes of course.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

He gonna play more as Jeff will be out for weeks.

  • sws94

He helped a Hornet helping Hasbrough up and Hansbrough gave him a pat in acknowledgement. Stephenson didn’t try to trip him either.

  • cdblue10

Suns can throw out Chandler for Al…Suns can explore this trade since they’re not winning this season and Al’s contract is expiring.

  • sws94

Not terrible for the way it started. It’s a small lead. But 32 is a lot to give up in a quarter.

  • MomentousPetey

I do not think he has great handles. Okay, but not great.

  • it might get close later since the Clippers can get cold

  • sws94

He’d be great if he could stay out of foul trouble. That’s what gets him in trouble.

  • sws94

    OK.

  • sws94

Frank is becoming the 2nd best player off of the bench. It’s not Lamb anymore.

  • cdblue10

What happened to Lamb?He just regressed to the mean.

  • Frank has fewer defensive mistakes even though he’s only a rookie

  • spiderman

hansbrough is getting some play time!

  • golfhacker

U just answered your own question!

  • normal players with good sportmanship

  • cdblue10

    Thanks for reminding!!!!

  • LinMad

    I can’t believe we’re only down by 7 shooting 29%

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Clifford, Clippers play PnR? Where’s yours?

  • spiderman

    Luc Richard Mbah a Moute

probaly the longest name in the NBA

  • IsabeliJane*17

    No Lin? Ah well…

    Happy New Year everyone!

  • Alain Gervais

brian robert playing longer then lamb

  • Hornets is playing better as a team now
    39-46

  • grover chang

Just in. Walker injured too? Why Roberts running so much point

  • LinMad

is it injured or did you make this up?

  • sws94

Lamb has dumb fouls and really didn’t play well. I don’t know what’s wrong with him. Roberts didn’t do anything dumb, did ok.

  • sws94

    Kemba resting. He’s not injured.

  • grover chang

Actually helped save him some face. Even before injury seemed like the game became too fast for him to dominate.

  • LinMad

    he’s in now

  • really?
I didn’t hear anything during broadcast or on twitter

  • Kwok Wai Lai

I think the Hornets plays well. The shooting % may fluctuate but they do play well. LAC’s shooting % may not hold up with the quickness of Hornets defense. They just need to put Jordon in check.

  • grover chang

Sorry about the confusion. I was asking if he was injured.

  • Alain Gervais

brian robert getting minutes over lamb

  • grover chang

I love how Stephanie is commenting on her man candy Lin and mkg in suits. Quite a reversal. Usually it’s the other way around.

  • I like how the Hornets is playing as a team now.

Kemba tried to take over to start the game but didn’t go well.
Now they have good ball movement

  • grover chang

So when Roberts comes off the bench he gets to run the point and they comeback. Why doesn’t lin get that luxury?

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Both Hairston and Roberts picked up 3 fouls!

  • MoominFloren

i want to know why as well

  • tom

So still no Lamb? I guess CLifford really doesnt trust him…

  • Alain Gervais

    daniels over lamb

  • Roberts and Kemba couldn’t make the 3 to take the lead.
    Lin is being missed

  • Kwok Wai Lai

    Batum hit a big 3.

  • Kemba and CP3 collided with such Jedi-flop force :]

  • cdblue10

That’s a dumb foul, you just didn’t give them ft’s but also the last possession shot

  • Kwok Wai Lai

The slump of MW is just too big for Hornets to handle.

  • Paul Pierce made his 3rd threes to close 1st half 65-56

  • tom

CP3 the king of flopping but hes sooo gooood

  • Kwok Wai Lai

Lamb seems to be taking drug. That $21M contract is just a bad decision.

  • tom

    what drug?

  • BobbyH

    Good at flopping?

  • Kwok Wai Lai

The difference is only between MW and Paul Pierce. Paul Pierce got 9 and MW 0.
MW has to play well if Hornets want to stay in the game.

  • cdblue10

    Indefensecillin

  • sws94

He’s not playing that great tonight though.

  • Hornets almost took the lead but Redick’s & CP3’s five FTs extended the lead to 58-52

  • sws94

    Foul trouble.

  • tom

    only 2 fouls
Roberts and PJ played on when they had 2

  • tom

    everything

  • sws94

    Yep, they got close.

I think that it is OK at times for Kemba to heroball. He has to learn how to control it. Team ball is keeping them in the game, not him heroballing.

  • tom

    in general
still, 12-6 at half isnt bad at all

  • grover chang

I don’t have the negative feelings about walker like I did with harden and Kobe. Those two seemed to want Lin to do worse. But walker is annoying. He has skill. But his bad defense and lack of ball movement is constipating to hornets success. Just watching Roberts as pg seem to pick up defense and offensive flow. How much smoother would games look with Lin as pg.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

    He’s finished for his career.

  • sws94

I think he has the 2 fouls a half rule. PJ and Roberts were playing better D anyway. He wants Lamb going to the 2nd half playing with 4 fouls, not only 3 is my guess.

  • sws94

The numbers are good, but he doesn’t seem to be having his usual impact watching him. I think he’ll improve in the 2nd half.

  • sws94

Technically, he’s not even finished for the season. But him as a staple in the post as a big man may be finished.

  • Chopz

Watching kemba constipates me too, gotta go.

  • LinMad

Kemba does shoot a lot but I’d say if he is shooting 50% or more, go for it. As long as he is not bricking it like Kobe, I’m perfectly fine with it. The good thing is that he tends to pass it to Batum or Lin when the game is closing. Cause when the game is closing, he needs help. The other team usually tries to shut Kemba and Batum down so they have to pass to Lin.

  • joyce ward

Yep, lin is the “it factor” for this team because it certainly isn’t walker/batum.smh

  • grover chang

I still don’t like it because he gets his shots the same way harden and Kobe. ISO plays. He breaks the offense and teammates get cold and out of rhythm. Walker can’t take all the shots!

  • sws94

Assistant coach Pat Delany says ball has to move for team to do well.

  • Chopz

Haha! that’s cold cd. Maybe he needs some amoxicillin, penicillin, or just some plain ole shuhaolin.

  • sport

Hope Lin heals fully before coming back. Seriously, compared to other players, Lin’s most frustrating thing is not shooting enough! Walker took 10 shots in 1st half! If Lin wants to be an all-star there no other way then to take 15+ shots every game.

  • tom

    DJ sucks lol horrible defense

  • sws94

That’s not Nic’s game, penetrating to the rim. Get back to ball movement. Cody playing well.

  • As Clifford predicted, noone can stop Redick running around making his shots.
    Lin’s D is sorely missed

  • Redick is the leading scorer for Clippers

16pts on 4-8 shooting, 3-3 from threes. It should be 4 since Robert fouled him for 3 FTs

  • LinMad

Batum’s shot selections are amazing when he makes it. When he misses it, u scratch ur head and ask why.

  • sws94

See what I mean about Paul? He’s sloppy and not dominant tonight.

  • Lam

    Go Jeremy!

  • yes, you always go “Whyyy? ok, good you made it” in your head

  • tom

That was the worst FT I ve ever seen thrown

  • sws94

WJ is supposed to be a good defender. Batum is getting him in foul trouble.

  • the ball looked like it has a mind of its own

  • sws94

Reddick is ridiculous. Lin is sorely missed.

  • sws94

    Batum/Cody chemistry is real.

  • 19pts already in 21 min

He’ll have 30+pts and be the difference maker in this game.
Only Deandre FTs can stop him =D

  • tom

    more gravity lol

  • tom

    That was push by zeller

  • occupatio

lamb with clueless foul. no surprise.

  • LinMad

we might win this game. We went from 30% FG to 41%

  • sws94

Paul is TO prone tonight and hasn’t really gotten it going. Hornets can win this game.

  • LinMad

    Kaminsky can attack

  • Alain Gervais

    omg crawford

  • LinMad

    wow that foul by Roberts

  • occupatio

the arc on the crwarford shot. so crawford. amazing.

  • LinMad

that was big shot by Kemba

  • sws94

Kaminsky hesitates to take the shot too much. But he’s improving mightily. Lamb is doing ok. At least he’s scoring. But he’s not a 2-way player.

  • occupatio

seriously tho. look at the score. gave up nearly 100 pts in three quarters. just like lakers game.

  • LinMad

    defense needs to improve

  • sws94

    Lamb is now providing offense.

  • LinMad

    Crawford crushed us

  • tom

    Is his defence that bad?

  • grover chang

Hornets playing hard. Hope they win. Need it for tough East.

  • LinMad

ya we need this win and the next one

  • Alain Gervais

at this rate we lose. not enough defense

  • i think they’re already at 5 fouls… la that is…

  • Clippers bench is outplaying Hornets bench+Batum
When Redick & CP3 are back, this will be over

  • LinMad

    that’s a wrap

  • tom

    Lamb 17 pts damn

  • Alain Gervais

lamb plays zero defense. And he tries

  • Alain Gervais

    gave up 22

  • Briiick

A true winner excels at all 3 things: his stats, his teammates’ stats and minus his opponents’ stats.
A stat padder only does the 1st thing.
A good player does two of the 3 things well.
A stat-padded fan only look for the 1st thing.
A knowledgeable fan look for two of the 3 things.
A winner’s fan will check all 3 things.

  • LinMad

    Batum lost the ball

  • occupatio

for a supposed playmaker, batum sure is good at generating bad shot selection for himself

  • Alain Gervais

i really wanted to see the hornets without lin. this is what i expected. defense is worse. offense less open for everyone. less assist and ball flow. very iso heavy.

  • sws94

Lamb did fine, Kaminsky is going fine. Others need to be better.

  • Dan Cohen

    ??? what?
    sell the horneits?
    MJ owns the hornets.

  • Alain Gervais

    typo…. see the hornets

  • occupatio

as good as lin’s D is, he is only one of five players out there.

defense has been main team weakness. but hey, u dont need to play D to be an ‘all-star’

  • Dan Cohen

frank the leading scorer again! kamiskisanity..or kamizaki!..

  • Lin Win

Haha no Lin on Reddick and he goes off.

We blew the Clippers out twice in preseason.

  • Dan Cohen

    was pre

  • Briiick

    again ?

  • occupatio

no one remembers preseason. except us haha

  • Lin Win

Was pre but they played their starters all the way till the 3rd then gave up because we had a 20pt cushion.

  • Briiick

Well said. Lin made the defeat of Clippers look easy in preseason, twice.

  • Lin Win

No Lin no win simple as that.

  • It’s safe to say that missing Jeremy Lin means missing valuable defense.

The most points given up by Hornets in a loss (regulation) is 116 to GSW.
It’s 118 now with still 32 seconds left

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Lin should sit next game also.

  • sport

Obviously MJ thinks Kam has potential to be an All-Star one day. That’s why he wouldn’t accept a trade even with so many 1st round picks!

  • sws94

Least one comment on missing Lin’s defense on RealGM. That’s really clear this game. But Lamb has 19 points so good for him. He gives up too much on the defensive end, however and isn’t really a playmaker.

  • 2 game sample might be good while letting his ankle to heal.

    I need him to play in Phoenix on Jan 6 =}

  • takemeback2reaganyears

7 night rest should be good.

  • sport

Yup don’t rush back until fully healed. Let the selfish team continue to lose without him 😀

  • John Focker

That’s a lazy dismissal, pre is usually meaningless but all rules change when things involve “the Asian who doesn’t belong” Lin. Lin has China’s support and Clippers wanted to school him bad on Lin’s “home turf”, especially after loss in Shenzhen. Even Austin Rivers, who had five teeth knocked out, still played. Hardly the norm for a preseason game.

  • LinMad

I think if Al was playing today, we would have been in worse shape.

  • sws94

    It’s not good at all.

  • In JLin’s 1st absence, the Hornets gave up the most points in a loss (122) to Clippers.
The previous record was 114 to the Warriors

  • LinMad

    defense took a hit

  • John Focker

Blessing in disguise. Now the Hornets are more aware of Lin’s importance on D.

  • sws94

Kemba scored 29. He did his job. He needed help. Other guys needed to contribute. It’s the defensive end where Lin was sorely missed. Lin’s 12-20 or so points would help, but his defensive stance and ability to draw fouls makes him valuable.

  • sws94

Honestly, I think they knew. Clifford said before the game that the matchup on Riddick was a concern. This just reinforces it.

  • John Focker

To those who think GSW plays teamball, a Curry-less Warriors trailing Mavs by 18 at the half. Spurs still the only true teamball in town.

  • The Hornets definitely missed JLin’s hustle, challenging shots, help defense, rebounding, blocks, deflections, etc.

  • sws94

Curry is a superstar. His offensive production is necessary to their team. Spurs play more team ball but GSW still plays more team-ball than most NBA teams.

  • John Focker

Agreed, hence “more” aware. There can’t be too much reinforcement on this notion to dispel Rox toxic lies.

  • occupatio

GSW’s team offense goes through curry. they _do_ play team ball, and curry is at the center of it.

  • lol

@MrMichaelLee DeAndre. Nothing but the bottom of the net. No, really

    https://twitter.com/MrMichaelLee/status/682387910168068096

  • John Focker

Spurs – 4 key players only lost by 2 pts to LeBron-led prime Heat.

  • occupatio

hornets can put up points but can’t string together stops. thats exactly what a treadmill team looks like.

  • Briiick

His body movement is only a decoration of the shot, LOL. Who is his shooting coach ?

  • John Focker

True team ball should be able to sustain itself to a certain extent despite loss of Super Star, not fall apart when he’s absent.

  • occupatio

i think steph’s absence speaks more to GSW’s lack of depth at the PG position and is not an indicator of whether they play team ball per se.

the team has good passers from 1 through 5, esp their starting unit. everyone can pass, and does.

  • John Focker

It’s a big assumption that he has one at all.

  • Dan Cohen

but if lin play, lamb will not get 17 points…
lin usually get LESS than 17 points..

  • Dan Cohen

man.. lin got hurt because of kobe! zamm it. hope it’s just a small ankle sprain. zamm it.

  • sws94

That’s why I wrote 12-20 for Lin. Lamb is still best going through Lin and can get his normal amount of minutes with him. Kemba and Batum need to play less minutes, Cliff even said so, so Lamb needs to play better.

  • sws94

He got hurt on a play where he landed on Hibbert’s foot. Not because of Kobe.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

You are assigned as the team PG, your job is to win not your points.

  • JoeTeam

ok, no win, no win! yet another confirming bias data point, I’ll go with it.

  • Chopz

He’s got two: dwight howard and shaq.

  • sws94

Don’t see Cliff’s post-game yet but hearing some comments from it and he isn’t happy at all about the effort tonight.

  • sws94
  • sws94

Starts around 4:55 when he gets to the chair.

  • sws94

No defensive mentality, couldn’t guard. Poor with talk, let guys play to their strengths. If our expectations of ourselves is going to be that low, we’re never going to be the team that we need to be. All players have to have career years, do things they haven’t done before. Made some specific comments about some players but made the comment and then just left without taking comments. That’s the most angry I’ve seen him.

  • occupatio

i wonder who he really is talking about when he says that. does it also include kemba and batum?

batum has PG to do the defensive work. who really has to play intense defense?

  • MoominFloren

He’s now 6 ft 8 with that hair …..he can play power forward or centre very soon

  • sws94

Comments were about players on the Clippers like Paul Pierce, Chris Paul and Reddick, he didn’t mention specific guys on the Hornets.

  • wu kong

    That was one unhappy coach

  • occupatio

kemba has been loafing around on defense in last 4 games. look at him after he gets screened off, he recovers very slowly. he lacks the same intensity as early season. this is evident even in the 1st quarter, so being tired is not an excuse.

  • sws94

I’m not sure really. I don’t think Batum and Kemba so much, but he didn’t say any of his player’s name. So even really angry, he doesn’t go after his own players to the press.

  • occupatio

i know hes not going to name names. but cliff can talk all he wants but until he pulls players like kemba out for being lazy on D, then he is nothing more than talk.

  • sws94

Kemba had an uneven game. I think the problem was guarding Reddick, no one did a good job on him and Austin Rivers. Maybe some of the help on CP3, but CP3 had 5 turnovers. I don’t know. It seems more Austin Rivers was the difference to me.

  • sws94

You don’t care for Kemba’s game it seems. I didn’t think Kemba was one of the worse guys on the floor tonight defensively. He chased Reddick around when he was on him for instance. He’s just but so good defensively.

  • occupatio

certainly reddick was an issue tonight. but im not really talking about this game, nor is cliff just commenting on tonight. hes talking about this entire 10 game stretch or so recently.

  • occupatio

im not talking about just this game. nor is there any need to point to players like lamb cuz, as sad as it is, he is doing his best. his best D is simply clueless tho.

im talking about players who dont put in the effort they are capable of.

  • sws94

Perhaps. I don’t know what is discussed in practice but it seems a lot of guys on the team aren’t implementing the defensive schemes. Also, tonight communication was bad on defense, maybe that’s why he’s so angry.

  • JoeTeam

They need lin of course …

  • JoeTeam

not to mention how many people curry draws

  • sws94

    OK.

  • JoeTeam

    I felt it, wow.

  • DX

Anyone thought Hornets was going to win tonight? Not me as soon as knew Lin will sit. Clippers didn’t play well, they should have 20 leading if tried harder.

  • sws94

I thought they’d do worse offensively and thought they had a chance to win. Their defense was atrocious.

  • occupatio

ive seen like 2 angry post-game interviews now. cliff is leveraging his being upset in the hopes of getting his players to listen.

but think back on mchale’s case. he talked angrily about the ball being sticky almost after every loss. but did he ever do anything to take out the player who was always ‘sticky’ with the ball? nope.

until the team’s ‘stars’ like kemba and batum are held accountable by cliff by benching them, the coach’s angry pep talk only works for so long, and after that, it is just ignored.

  • Singapore BB Fan

Definitely Hornets without JLin is not a playoff team.
Better for Cliff and Kemba to realise it – the sooner the better.

  • CJSHYY

Can’t believe this? Lakers beat Celtics?

  • David Kim

Great player = who can play both ends of floor.

  • sws94

Somehow, yes. Clarkson played well in that game.

  • heart

Cliff sounded upset of team defense mentality and players’ effort for not stepping up to have career nights. He talked for like only 1 minute in post game interview and stepped off to exit from the press table.

  • Briiick

Real star = great player who also makes his teammates better.

  • CJSHYY

What so short? I didn’t watch the game just check box score… Lamb & Frank took more shots than Batum? They both played well…

  • heart

Yep. Surprised me too. Here’s the link: http://www.nba.com/hornets/coach-clifford-live-postgame-12/30/15

  • sws94

He was very angry. Didn’t want to take any questions.

  • CJSHYY

    Why? They lose games before…?

  • sws94

He didn’t like the defensive effort and think his players aren’t doing enough. He seemed too frustrated to answer questions about it so he didn’t take any.

  • Chopz

Thats right, hit us with some sense. A point guard is s supposed to pass the ball to teammates and help them get shots and points, then score.

A well fed team works a lot harder cuz they know they have opportunities to score. It affects defense, offense, everything.

Everyone is in the flow and you have better chances of winning every night.

  • CJSHYY

I guess he had no answer for it… he couldn’t ask Kemba, Lamb or whoever played better D…….

  • sws94

They scored enough. The defense is why they lost. Plus Batum really is the facilitator on this team. Sometimes a PG scores a lot, doesn’t Curry score a lot?

Kemba scoring 29 is good enough. He’s not the reason why the team lost. They didn’t have Lin in there to guard Reddick and Rivers, otherwise they had a good chance to win. No one member of any team wins a game. They can take over at times, but 5 guys are needed to play the game and do things like box out, rebound, get 50/50 balls, defend and help defend, set screens on offense, and so on.

very important player on the team
    he is the new mj.

  • james brown

its Clioff’s fault because his principles and plan to let Batum play offense and waver with defense is now haunting him, plus not letting his franchise player to be a defensive liability and hold him not accountable. Lamb can score that’s a fact if given opportunity, but defensively, he will let other player also shoot more and maybe a lot.

hope this serve as an eye opener for cliff..get his player accountable especially on defense and the team will find success easy!

  • heart

    True.

  • kauaiblue

    agreed! nice analysis!

  • james brown

    i agree!!!

Talks will creates resentments among other players if the coach will be selective on who to implement it with!

  • JoeTeam

I didn’t watch CHA tonight nor GSW, but I bet some of the KW hero run form last game contributed to the loss — any opinions out there? Cliff was pretty mad, and he was talking about D.

  • JoeTeam

I hope so. I would not want to see the other kind of MVP you know who-s.

  • james brown

curry is the machine of the team GSW..who is th ENGINE of Hornets then?

the thought speak of importance with the team!

  • heart

Yep. Lin is the game changer and the defensive juggernaut for Hornets. But why not make everyone accountable on defense, especially your core players? Why did Cliff permit the lazy habits by allowing PJ to take defense load off NB? And use Lin to take the defense load off KW/NB? Now he’s upset and wondering why?

  • Steppen03

The impact of Steph Curry (via ESPN) …

In the 1,043 minutes the Warriors have played with Stephen Curry on the floor, they’ve outscored their opponents by 482 points. In the 460 minutes without him, they’ve been outscored by 101, including tonight’s 23-point loss.

  • Steppen03

Actually, I don’t mind him not naming names. Throwing players off the bus – we know too well of… I’m just so happy that’s happened with JL7 off the court.

  • JJ Hui

Exactly, everyone has the heart to pull the Win because they know they are having the chance from PG passing the ball to them, the adrenaline is high! That is exactly why Lin makes the team mates feel good and so they play harder to win!

  • ha, I liked the random guy at 6:16.

also liked clifford’s no-nonsense mentality. i think there have been other games where it felt like lin was the only guy hustling. it’s good that his absence is noticed.

  • it’s good for hornet’s standings in the east, since celtics right above hornets.

  • JJ Hui

    Like like like!

  • NONONO

I know why Cliff got so mad. Clippers guards had 83 points tonight (CP only scored his avg). Kemba and Lamb are the biggest liabilities.

  • Acbc

Hey JT, I know you’re a big GSW fan. Don’t you find a loss like this tonight a bit disconcerting? Steve Kerr has to take a bit of blame for this type of loss. The bench guys need more play and Curry needs to distribute more to get other guys going for such an occasion. Once curry gets the lead, he needs to involve others like how Lin does it. Make other step up and score, otherwise teams will just focus everything on curry and you’d wind up in a situation where guys aren’t able to step up.

  • sws94

CP3 had 5 TOs, he didn’t go off on Kemba. Kemba primarily guarded CP3. Whoever was supposed to be guarding Austin Rivers did a poor job of it. JJ Reddick is a tough cover, Lin would have probably held him to less than he ended up getting. But JJ was on tonight and he has these types of games.

Lamb plays poor defense. That’s why his minutes have been lower but today he needed to play more.

  • TK Wong

Surprised that Batum with such a height advantage over CP3 did not even attack or even attempt to take a shot over him when Batum was squared up and being defended by CP3 .

  • sws94

Batum played 41 minutes on a bad toe. He was wincing throughout the game. He wasn’t at full strength.

  • Warren
  • occupatio

hi Joe, i watched like 3/4ths of this game, was cooking and eating in between. in any case, i would generalize from the last 4 games or so, kemba has shown little pride in his D. i’m going to single him out because hes the ‘star’ of the team and so hes most responsible.

when kemba gets scored on, he doesnt buckle down and play more intense D, but instead he tries to make up for it on the other end. kemba gets burned, then tries to shoot on the very next trip to the other side — that happens all the time. so the games that kemba is most lax on D and gets burned the most are also the games he shoots the most.

what stands out to me is that he would get screened off in a PnR, and instead of quickly fighting through the screen, he would just trot back in place, without any urgency to recover. he wasnt like this at the beginning of the season. and this happens even in the 1st quarter, so fatigue is not an excuse. there are also games in which he gets burned repeatedly, and just kinda gives up, eg, doesnt close out hard cuz he thinks the shot is going to go in anyway.

the most telling sign is how often — esp in recent stretch of games — in which he is standing on D without bending his knees, in other words, not in a defensive stance.

besides lin, the only other person on this team who takes pride in his defense is kaminsky. when someone scores on kam, you can tell he gets mad. eg, he will smash the ball between his hands right afterwards. but score on kemba, and he just wants ends up, at best, trading pts with the opponent.

batum, its not even worth mentioning. cliff does not even give this guy defensive responsibilities. its a joke.

  • sws94

Only Zeller and Lamb’s post-game interviews are posted. Zeller said a lot of what Cliff said. They didn’t have a good mindset and allowed too much on the defensive end. He said guys were out but they have to play with who they have. Lamb didn’t want to hear about anything he did. He said if the team gets off to slow starts or not, his job on the bench is to bring energy and he hasn’t been doing it. Both guys seem muted, Lamb said they didn’t communicate enough to try to get stops.

  • cdblue10

Can’t teach good balance basketball on this team because,Lamb,Kemba,Kaminsky and Batum are just playing with their personal stats first as their priority and everything is just secondary.

  • tom

Unrelated but Lin’s suit, hair and glasses were on point tn

  • tom

Thats like 90% of the league lol

  • occupatio

kaminsky is a good, young player. and he plays both ends of the court. i like him best on this team besides lin.

lamb, you really cant put much blame on him, because he couldnt play good team offense even if he wanted to. he doesnt have those skills.

  • tom

He’s a traditional SG a very good shooter gotta get him those shots

  • occupatio

lamb is like nick young. you dont want him in charge of making many decisions on offense, but teammates should look for him when hes open.

  • cdblue10

What I noticed on this 4 players every time they have the ball is just look at the rim.As long as they don’t put on themselves that defense and hustles are their top priority they won’t go anywhere. As a player, their mentality should be always to stop the guy in front of them and think about how to help the team wins.

  • grover chang

Wow. If that’s what he says when cameras are on, I’m glad Lin isn’t part of what he said off camera. That’s like a parent not just mad but mad and disappointed in their child. One of the worse feelings.

  • grover chang

    Young defends better.

  • occupatio

kam is a rookie. he is still figuring out what he has to do, what he can do, what he cannot do. eg, he is still figuring out whether to pump fake or to drive, and what to do once he drives. until he figures that out, hes going to have tunnel vision. thats part of being a rookie. but kam is a capable passer, and a very well rounded player.

lamb, same thing but he’s got more to figure out than kam and he will never develop, probably, good vision to find teammates. you cant ask a player to do things he is incapable of doing. you just have to accept that about him, and consider how best to utilize what he can actually do.

  • occupatio

lol, that doesnt say much. lamb is one of the most clueless defenders.

  • cdblue10

I actually saw his upside and his skills as a big man is rare on his size, but if he can’t develop the team mentality first then he’s heading on the wrong way.But you’re right he’s just a rookie, that’s the asst. coach job to tell him his shortcomings.

  • occupatio

i saw that too. i was surprised when batum passed the ball away when he could just shoot over CP3. batum already had post position too.

meanwhile, on other plays, batum is more than happy to take contested shots with taller players in his face.

    batum has poor shot selection.

  • occupatio

kam does play defense. are you suggesting he doesnt? in fact, he plays the best positional defense among all the bigs on this team. hes always where he should be. and he gets mad when he gets scored on. i like that.

his only weakness now on D is that hes too thin, and doesnt have the strength and weight to deal with powerful bigs.

  • occupatio

why should anyone be surprised about cliff’s reaction? he takes pride in coaching defense, and his reputation is staked on that. his team just gave up 120 pts. no way he can accept that, even if they won.

Here is the difference came from.

  • Chopz

You just answered ur own question right there: “no one member of any team wins a game. They can take over at times, but 5 guys are needed to play the game and do things like box out, rebound, get 50/50 balls, defend and help defend, set screens on offense, and so on.”

5 guys needed to win, spread the wealth. There’s enough to go around and still get yours. Like i answered in the above post its simple: feed me and i’ll do all the little things u just said. Don’t feed me and its human nature for me to slack off. It comes down to: what am i getting out of it for all this work i put in? share the glory kemba and batum or you will share the losses.

And to your point about curry. The difference with curry is he scores a lot but he also gets everybody involved, guys are getting touches left and right. Thompsom, green, barnes, igoudala, etcetera all take game winning shots, they share the love. On hornets, pretty much kemba and batum 99 percent of time take the game ending shots.

The other main difference is curry is the best shooter in the league, he hits a high percentage of his shots unlike kemba. He passes better than kemba and so on. Curry is what a real scoring point guard looks like, he gets his but so do everybody else. Remember it, write it down, study it, thats the blueprint.

  • cdblue10

His 1 on 1 defense is still soft, bigs easily score on him every time they post him up but of course he’s just a rookie can’t really blame him all about that. What I don’t really like about his game is about knowing how to pass and shoot, the problem with him is he tends to forget that he has team mates, this is not NCAA anymore and he’s not the franchise player yet.

canaan actually took 18 shots. wow

  • occupatio

okay. youre basically saying he chooses to not see teammates, while im suggesting that its more a function of his inexperience than of his unwillingness.

i think we CAN agree, anyone whos been watching kam, that he hasnt totally figured out when to pump fake and what to do after that. hes still managing his OWN game, and is not yet able to fully consider others on the court.

there are indeed cases where kam sees lin and doesnt pass to him. that does happen. i think lin has to share some of the responsibility for that. teammates pass to players who can dominate the game, who earn their respect. lin doesnt try to dominate the game even when he can. lin often holds himself back.

  • Hope

76ers will make playoff next year with Lin leading the way. They have young talent and now they have a real coach with system.

  • Hope

    Is he talking to Lin?

  • cdblue10

Just observe on next games and let me know what you think?I know it’s still a small sample size to judge his make up as a player.I actually like him even on my previous posts I always gave him some props but lately his game is changing, not a bad thing to be aggressive but he needs to learn when to pass and shoot.

  • Chopz

Exactly, if you’re the star of the team you take the glory and the shame. You play the most minutes, u control the ball, ur team loses, it’s you kemba. Its your job to get everybody on the same page on the court.

  • occupatio

yes, i agree he needs to learn to pass better, esp on his drives. often someone is open when he drives. i think kam is capable of that, but needs more time. i dont think lamb ever will be capable of it, so i dont expect him to.

ok, we can keep an eye out for kam in the next game and compare notes.

  • cdblue10

    🙂

  • Chopz

Hey jeremy come play for us, i miss u secretariat. What? U want me to get tyson, novak and the rest of the boys back together? Let me see what i can do.

  • CT

And that GSW game, Lin only played 13min as I remembered.

  • occupatio

when kemba scored in the fourth quarter, like on the last layup he got, he was so hyped about it, even when it was clear his team would lose the game. i dont like seeing that.

  • sws94

Batum is the main distributor. Watch the games and he plays with Kemba and does much of the distributing. psalm234 pointed out when the team was going well, they were playing team ball. Kemba tonight wasn’t that bad and I think he did a decent job on Chris Paul. Paul had 5 TOs and 19 points and didn’t dominate Kemba.

Curry is only mentioned because he is a scorer. Lin can also be a scorer at times. Kemba isn’t unlike other point guards that shoot and score a lot. But to say Kemba doesn’t distribute isn’t to accurately reflect what goes on in games. He actually does try to distribute the ball.

Kemba and Batum shouldn’t be scapegoats for today’s loss. It falls on the team. They didn’t communicate well enough on defense in terms of switching, showing, helping. They didn’t contain Austin Rivers who should not score so much. They didn’t figure out a way to slow down Reddick in Lin’s absence. They couldn’t hold an opposing team to any respectable score in their own building. 122 points is unacceptable to Clifford. That is not to be blamed on Kemba or Batum. It’s on the team, but really Kemba didn’t do such a bad job tonight on Chris Paul at all.

  • sws94

Depends on his ankle. I’m sure the team hopes he will.

  • Chopz

Its like jordan clarkson the other day, he got a dunk and threw his hands in the air n made faces like he was doing something special. Overkill buddy, its not the game winner, it ain’t that serious.

Same with kemba, nothing to really be cocky about when ur losing.

  • occupatio

yep. but the difference is hornets are trying to win games, while the lakers, everyone knows its just the kobe farewell show and the young players getting play time. compared to the Kobe Circus, clarkson’s antics are no big deal. its part of the side show.

  • Chopz

Tell yourself what u want. Kemba’s assist numbers are abysmal for a point guard. What does he have? Like 4 a game? Ridiculous. And u hit on the nail when u said batum is distributing, kemba’s so bad that batum has to play point.

The pattern of hero ball rubs off on people, the wrong way that is.

Maybe you should start a kemba portal forum the way u defend him at every turn.

  • 76ers went 2W-1L since MDA came on board. It’s very impressive indeed

MDA is actually making the case to be a head coach somewhere next season.

  • Chopz

Sideshow it is, u ain’t kidding.

  • sws94

They look better but we need a bigger sample size to see the real effect of his imprint to the offense. It’s a hybrid system now, some MDA some Brown I think. After 20 games, we’ll see where they are but they look more organized now and more enthusiastic than pre-MDA.

  • sws94

So are we here to critique Kemba? Not me. I’m not interested in knocking him down. He’s Lin’s team mate and I hope he can develop his game to the best of his ability.

Kemba’s assists aren’t terrible for the type of PG he is. HIs assists average are close to Batum’s. This is not a PG centric facilitating system. The offense more goes as much if not more Batum than Kemba. Batum isn’t playing Point. This isn’t that type of system. He’s a facilitator in a multi-facilitator system, not a PG centric system.

I’m defending him because some you are going out of your way to criticize him where it isn’t necessary. And why don’t you start the Kemba portal? It’s your idea. I have no interest in that. I’m fine with Jeremy. He’s the guy I follow on different boards through different teams and paid hard money to go see at MSG and in Brooklyn, not Kemba. Because I went to see him as a Laker too but unfortunately, he didn’t play.

So you start the Kemba or anti-Kemba portal. Or don’t bring up something so silly.

  • Briiick

Cliff used to be an assistant to MDA, but he is not on the same level with MDA in offense. Hornets were eager to extend his contract because he had been collaborating on their stud fabricating plan, and the rumor was that several other studs in the league demand his service LOL. I just knew MDA and a supporting management could turn 76ers around immediately. Adding a top PG named Lin will make them a playoff team next season. But their ambition won’t stop there now that the perfect storm is generated again, moving from Suns to 76ers.

  • JoeTeam

    u ain’t kidding, s’right!

  • JoeTeam

Occu, thanks for your post. I see what you see too. Only you call it out better. Yeah, I agree, KW is getting some Harden-light play attitudes (though he’s a good guy in the end). No kidding those observations you make proves he doesn’t care about D. I saw him get beat on D, then take it and brick, then have it totally run on him. He can cause a run by the opponent easily. To me, PG is to control the flow of live action, and every ball is like a new tee-up on the golf course. One has to be mindful of the flow of the game to be a good PG/QB.

Ah well, I guess some of these overtones come from his over 30pt games. JLin had many, but he never lost his focus on the prize. Some times, looking back, he might not have had the experience or the right coaching or management team help, but his aim was always true. JLin did the chest bumps in joy, but ne never lost his perspective.

  • Lin Win

Not new MJ. No where near close to MJ!

I’m not going out of my way to criticize kemba, i’m calling a spade a spade. So is most everyone else on this forum. If lin messes up, you’re the first to get on him about anything.

Don’t try to insult our intelligence by claiming to like or love lin, seems like u love kemba more, just admit it. Take the weight off ur shoulders, you’ll feel better.

Like i said, i don’t need to start a kemba forum, u talk about him more than anybody really.

Like tonight, u replied to me, i wasn’t talking to you. Like michael jacksons song: u wanna be startin somethin.

So if u don’t like it, don’t reply to me with your long winded posts and u won’t get this long post from me. I haven’t replied to you about anything so if you don’t wan’t drama, don’t start drama.

  • JoeTeam

Hi acbc, yep I love the Warriors. I saw that tonight. I wonder if Steph would have helped.

What you have when Steph is in is he draws double and triple attention, so it’s easy for his teammates to execute. Today, they had to execute against defenses that could focus on them. I only watched a bit and though – ok, I get it. They will have to take a lesson, because Steph may get worn down and get in minutes restriction, etc.

To agree with you, I really think they didn’t focus enough getting Speights going this year. He’s been unproductive this year, and yet, last year he monstered for them. Perhaps it’s with the coming of Fez (festus ez), but as you say, the onus is on them to get Speights going because they will need him. Even DLee helped in the finals last year.

Steph does in fact allow others to take over a lot. Esp last 10 games or so, I notice him giving off the ball and running to the corner and letting DGreen, KT, Fez, work it. He seems lately to just turn it on to get separation or score quick catchups.

Overally, I don’t know about my GSW fandom. I sort of go for the ride. I don’t think about it much because they seem to play and recover as a team all by themselves, marveling me each time. Tonight, I thought – ok, some of my friends are right, Steph is really important.

For Lin games, it’s different for me. My mind is engaged, and I am trying to read the game and think through what Lin would, could do when he’s in. When he’s not in, I look for why Lin should be in. So watching Lin games is way more engaging for me in that my mind is trying to figure it out with all of you and JLin. GSW, like I said, is a passenger thing for me. Guess I’m just as happy with a load of Steph 3s as I am with Livingston midranges. The thing I don’t like are DGreen’s flexing and chest thumping when he’s done a good play. He’s good, but to me that’s hard to watch and admire. I love Steph’s six-gun thing or his arms raised in praise, or even his lifting of his left hand to show how hard the high-off glass floater was. So joyful.

  • sws94

I started the discussion, so I don’t know what you are talking about. And you like a few others are getting personal and that’s the result of poor debating skills. Argue my points and nothing else and there is absolutely no need to talk about being long-winded or Kemba portals or anything else. If you want to talk about basketball and Lin, fine. But leave the personal stuff out of it lest you cheapen any good points you make.

  • JoeTeam

lol earnings vs earings. Freudian slip ha ha.

  • JoeTeam

Ad ED, Kam, and Cody. ED for sky, Cody because he is willing to PnR, and Kam because his pop has a good 3pt shot. Then add Casspi now that he’s sharp shooting at Sac.

  • JoeTeam

what do you make of his 6 fouls today and his high production? I didn’t watch him today. Wondering why the uptake with Lin gone, is it structural where he can’t produce if Lin gets his mins?

  • Chopz

I talk about kemba and lin with everybody but u, u don’t own the rights to any discussion. I didn’t reply to you, i was talking to someone else. U jumped into our talk and replied to me, don’t try to twist it around. I’ve been talking to other lin fans about this since the season began so u didn’t start “this” discussion.

And the only one getting personal is you, like trying to hide how u personally feel about lin and kemba.

My debating skills are just fine, because i can i can delve deeper than just the basketball talk and sense whats behind it. U can try to cover up the stench all u want, but i can smell when someone’s appreciation of a player they’re supposed to love is suspect. So can other people, they feel the negative vibe.

We can debate basketball all day, but someone like you already has your mind made up, u don’t and won’t listen to anyone. A good debater listens, I listen to pretty much everybody here but you. I listen to people when they’re reasonable.

The true test of one’s intelligence and debating skills is to know when an argument is not going anywhere and to desist, but you can’t help yourself. You continue to insist on beating a dead horse .

The only thing personal here is your insistence to come to a lin forum and fight with most of the people here.

  • Chopz

Well his earnings are nice compared to me : )

  • sws94

Actually, don’t get personal and I have no problems with anything anyone wants to bring up. Did you or did you not go on about a Kemba portal. You did. That’s where you went wrong. Then you go on about my being long-winded. That is poor debating skills. Argue points. And whatever you feel about anyone, don’t subject a board to it.

My initial comment was about Kemba scoring, missing defense and then why Lin was missed. That’s all it was. A simple, short comment.

I started this discussion and others answered it and you are one that did and I can reply to any discussion I so choose to like anyone else on at Portal.

Anyway if you and a few of you don’t like what I have to say, live with it. Because unless the mods have a problem with me, I’m not going anywhere.

  • Chopz

Like i said, u don’t listen. U don’t care what anybody has to say, and nothing u ever say is short. So long winded this reply is then.

See the difference is i read what most people say and only reply as necessary. But you feel it necessary to jump in everybody’s business and put in ur two cents everywhere, thats not debating, thats someone needing attention.Ooh me me, right here, look at me.

I ain’t goin anywhere neither, love me a good fight, debate, or whatever you wanna call it, bring it. Oh and my intelligence, debating skills, and grammar are fine. I just use words like “ain’t” for emphasis. So let me emphasize again, i ain’t goin nowhere neither, no how, no way, no why, no what, no lin haters.

  • sws94

You you you. Please. enough of this silliness. We are here to talk about Lin. Not bore the others on the board with back and forth on each other.

  • Chopz

Then control your own destiny. See what i mean? U don’t listen. U want to fight but just don’t want to admit it.

Cease and desist like i said about an hour ago and then we don’ t need to continue.

  • 1mtoldman

well you have the appropriate “name” ie. “hope”.

    Yes.

  • 1mtoldman

i think he’s probalby pretty much clueless generally. thats what cliff sees and why when there are other options even tho he can be a capable scorer he has declined his minutes.

  • 1mtoldman

true. i dont see why people make such a big deal of individual defensive shortcomings; the nba is about offense. hardly anybody plays defense.

  • 1mtoldman

its worse than that i think totally up all of the starters plus austin and priggy. yeah frank’s points balanced the lack of front court scoring for the clips but the clips backcourt absolutely destroyed the hornets (depleted) backcourt. that was the difference.

  • 1mtoldman

yeah gs is a team team but curry is the star of the team he’s just a team star. what is the time frame of those minutes you quote? this season? last two seasons?

enquiring minds want to know mr. lin-cyclopedia.

  • 1mtoldman

he was mad because the backcourt of walker/batum/lamb/roberts let 4 clip guards go off for a ridiculous amount of points. austin rivers hardly a big league scorer got over 20. that was the difference in the game.

watching the game tho the hornets were close at times i never at any time felt they had any chance to win this game.

  • 1mtoldman

following a little bit of charlotte based coverage something i normally dont do; its obvious as i think adele here points out how kemba-centric is the coverage.

its pretty much all kemba all the time.

  • 1mtoldman

yeah and after clarkson makes a couple baskets he gets all excited and tries a 3rd iso and gets his pocket picked.

still you know its a weird nba nite when both lakers and sixers win.

  • Chopz

Right? Lakers and sixers win, lin and curry sit, hehehe.

  • Acbc

Like I’ve been saying, MDA will go 50/50 remainder of the season. They don’t even have Okafor in the lineup yet due to injury. Brown is a lame duck coach just as Hinkie is a lame duck GM.

The amazing thing is that MDA’s first head coach job was with the Suns’s with half a season left. The following season they got Nash back from Dallas because Cuban thought Nash was too injury prone. Nash and MDA turned the Suns around that year and won 41 more games than previous year to make the playoffs.

Can history repeat itself? I’m counting on it. Lin is the Nash type player MDA needs to win a championship.

  • JoeTeam

that intuition you describe integrates a lot … I feel that way a lot during a game. It’s amazing, all the pieces that go into watching a game.

  • JoeTeam

compared to most of the billions of people, we are really watching royalty when it comes to $ and fame. But then again, we each get one life and one can really live it well away from $ and fame. The excellence we can all feel.

  • sport

lol MJ is not trading Kaminsky.

  • adele

    Ita all about coaching.

  • adele

It all starts with the coach and the teams agenda.

  • adele

We have hope and heart here. Great values.

  • adele

I don’t like that also ever since I started observing the Hornets. thats why I highlighted that in my blogs most of the time. Sometimes its pretty obvious that I don’t know why some people miss it. They sometimes exaggerated his performance and add the word all star on it. He deserves to be an all star with his stats, blah blah blah and vote for Kemba movement.

  • adele

He doesn’t want to criticize any of his favorite and trusted players. No sir. The anointed stars on this team should not be tarnished for the all star campaign.

  • adele

I hope they wont realize it so that Lin can join MDA. Once the winning trend in 76ers is set, Lin can make a smart decision come next season.

  • heart

    Thanks Adele.

  • heart

Cliff has created/allowed bad habits to form when he announced that he wants PJ to take defensive load off NB to save his energy on offense. Same goes w/KW. Using Lin as defensive juggernaut to defend multiple positions. KW benefits when Lin he’s on court w/him. Lin draws defenders away from KW in turn gives him more space to work/make shots more easily.

  • grover chang

Looked like stephanie ready last night thought so too. LOL

Lin is also the best offensive player. Period.

The Hornets won’t know this next season, but Lin defends far better than MKG does.

Actually, Lin defends far better than any guard I’ve ever seen.

    Lin GLUE GUY

  • Hope

Who are the radio guys for hornets? Those are 2 Lin haters.

  • CJSHYY

    What did they say?

  • Hope

I was listening to one of the games on lp radio Charlotte, not paying too much attention while driving. They criticised Lin’s TO which kind of having the tone like Lin is TO machine. For a LOF like me, I consider them haters.

  • CJSHYY

From last night? Lin was not even play… but I guess these guys still stay in old image of Lin from NYK… smh!

  • Hope

Yeah, he glues all starters and bench into one bundle.

  • Hope

The game they won against Memphis.

  • CJSHYY

Oh! Lin did make some dumb TO but Kemba had 4 TO too?!

  • TTNN

if you listen to them all the time like me, you won’t complain. They were pretty fair.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Have not heard your opinion about lin and MDA possibility reunion.

  • wu kong

The BBB guys are such troublemakers. Always causing trouble making inflammatory statements and then getting all bent out of shape at JLin fans. UGH such juvenile behavior

  • blubell

I agree. I haven’t really heard them criticize Jeremy about anything but often hear them praising him.

  • Rick Johnson
  • blubell

    Still questionable 🙁
I was really looking forward to seeing him play during my break. Hope it’s nothing serious and he recovers soon!

  • CJSHYY

I think ankle sprain maybe will take few days… it’s better not to play for tomorrow.

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

The big difference is Lin turn-overs came under less minutes…Kemba had 4, but it was under 42 minutes which is a reasonable amount of TO under this kind of minutes….

Lin 3 turnovers under much less minutes is much more problematic.

If you look at Lin TO per 36, it is higher than Kemba and this is what you have to look at instead of the “per game” TO.

  • Parent of Lots of Kids

I have no personal experience with ankle sprains, but how long does it take for an injury like that to heal completely? What a bummer for all the fans who purchased tickets for the Raptor’s Asian Heritage Night on Friday. Reminds me of the time I flew out to Houston from NY Thanksgiving weekend to see Lin play and he got hurt during the first minute of the game and I only got to see him on the bench at Houston and then an Spurs. I was so disappointed.

  • Parent of Lots of Kids

I have no playing experience but yes, he does seem to be an excellent and effective defender. And no doubt that his spirit is contagious and motivating to his teammates.

  • sws94

We’ll see what the status is tomorrow. If it is still questionable, he probably won’t play. If probable, there’s a better chance.

  • CJSHYY

I know. Sometimes I don’t get why there’re tons of players under the rim w no space & Lin still passed the ball to his teammate?! 9 out of 10 would be a TO. He just repeat again & again ?????

  • CJSHYY

I thought Lin did pretty well after ASG last year to improve a lot in his TO issue ….

  • adele

Yes but big question why they don’t value much on the glue guy.

  • Sunny Sullenberger

How long does it take for a sprained ankle to heal?
It usually takes 5 to 14 days to recover from a grade one ankle sprain. This is when slight stretching and damage occurs to the ligaments. With a grade one sprain, there is slight instability, pain, swelling, joint stiffness, and trouble walking. Grade two sprains can take 4 to 6 weeks to heal.

  • Hope

    I think lin will play.

  • heart

Happy New Year! Have Prosperous and Blessed New Year! Beautiful picture!

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

That’s Lin’s main problem…Once he gets deep inside, he’s indecisive..It’s almost like he’s still making his mind up on whether to pass or to shoot and this is how he gets in trouble.

Sometimes, he’ll try to pass with huge traffic when the better decision would had been to simply put the ball up and shoot.

On other time, the ball would simply slip out of his hand…he needs better grip on the ball and needs to be more decisive..He should drive with a plan in mind and stick to it instead of making the decision on the fly.

  • Hope

That’s y I love his game so much. Inside out player with high reward play. That comes with risk of course. The type of plays that give you higher winning chance.

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

I posted the post below the line on the GM forum and I wanted to see what did you guys think..I know some of you don’t like Lamb defense, but I still think he’d be a net positive over PJ Hairston.

    —————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Is it time for Clifford to seriously think about ending the PJ Hairston experiment as a starter?

I know PJ has reasonably improved his shooting during the last 5 game, but his FG% is still at 35%…Should we expect him to keep improving so that he can get a reasonable FG% of about 40%?

I strongly believe Clifford needs to shake things up once more because the East is very tight and he HAS to make the playoff this year…You can’t have a guy shooting well below 40%FG in your starting 5 for so long…..PJ sound like a decent dude, but I believe he got his chance to put up reasonable stats and it is now time for new starting 5…

I also don’t believe PJ is good enough defensively to remain the starter..He’s a net negative overall, even if you think he’s better than Lamb defensively.

My recommendation for Clifford is to either start Lin or Lamb and to re-move PJ out of the rotation completely just so that Lin and Lamb can get close to 30 minute each….Lamb is shooting 47% from the floor and I truly believe he deserve more than his current minute allocation…

Then you have the fact that you just paid him $7M per..Might as well play him and hope he improves his D…He has a much higher ceiling than PJ, so that shouldn’t be up to debate…Overall, even if you think he’s not good defensively, he’d STILL be a net positive over PJ because he’s so much a better offensive threat.

Clifford should have minutes allocation of Kemba at 32mpg…Lin at about 28 and Lamb at about the same…Lin would get some extra minutes playing PG since Kemba large minutes would have to go down…That should leave enough minutes for Lamb at the 2 and more minute for Lin as the PG.

Why not have a 5 game experiment with Kemba, Lin and Lamb as a 3 guard rotations and see what happens…You can scatter Lin’s minutes so that he can lead the second units…Let Lin starts the first 6 minutes, then sub him out at about the 6th minute mark of the first quarter to rest…then bring him back to lead the second unit…Sound reasonable to me.

Clifford can not afford to wait and I just hope he end the PJ experiment as soon as possible and get Lamb in there for more minutes..Let Lin and Lamb eat up PJ’s 18 minutes..That’s 9 precious minutes for Lin and Lamb.

For Star Wars fans, I thought the new sequel by JJ Abrams was a substantial improvement on the prequels. But apparently, George Lucas feels different.

    http://news.yahoo.com/george-lucas-explains-why-didn-t-star-wars-153745258.html?nf=1
    To each his own!

  • golfhacker

Sounds like sour grapes from Mr. Lucas. The franchise lost a lot of fans because of the Phantom Menace debacle. Kudos to Abrams for reviving the franchise.

  • Rick Johnson

He should have made the movies then. He just sat on the royalties for so many years after Episode 3 and didn’t do anything. At least Disney is doing something to further peoples enjoyment of the Star Wars universe.

  • I also just read that George Lucas’ 1st wife, Marcia Lucas, was actually the secret weapon that made the 1st 3 movies very good because she’s a better film editor.
George Lucas’ brilliant ex-wife was secret weapon in ‘Star Wars’

  • spiderman

    I wouldn’t doubt that…

  • CJSHYY

His game from NYK it’s fun but not w no space… you know that will be TO bc there’s no way you can pass the ball to anyone… Anyway, right now Cliff asks Lin to be SG most of the time so….

  • spiderman

““She was a knockout,” filmmaker John Milius recalled. “We all wondered how little George got this great-looking girl. And smart too, obsessed with films. And she was a better editor than he was.”

Marcia, born in 1945 in Modesto, California, was co-editor on “Return of the Jedi” and also did uncredited work on “The Empire Strikes Back.” She was one of the few people who could rein in her husband and help guide his ideas.”

Too bad she’s not getting the recognition she deserves (despite the academy award).
    … Kind of like Lin

  • Michael

Awesome ground to air laser defense grid. And happy new year.

  • sws94

I don’t think Lin is an SG. They have to put something on the lineup cards so they fill out the traditional positions. He’s still a playmaker. It’s just primary, secondary, or tertiary, depending on Kemba and Batum being on with him or not.

  • golfhacker

People with huge egos are so shallow.

  • spiderman

Wow, apparently a poor showing by Golden State without Curry. Did not know a championship team could fall apart like that.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-dont-lie/curry-less-warriors-lose-big-to-mavericks–fall-to-29-2-052026863.html

I guess Curry adds central flavor !

  • Acbc

One of the plays I still remember vividly from Linsanity was a pass from Tyson Chandler to “nobody.” Lin had just passed the ball to him on the right side low post from the elbow and he turned to the baseline as if to make a post move. Instead he threw a blind pass with 2 hands over his head. It bounced on the floor right behind him. Lin saw what was happening and ran to pick up the ball for a layup.

This was a great game the Knicks played. Everyone was sharing the ball and passes were made to players moving to the right place at the right time. A team that has developed that type of floor sense can anticipate players movements and create lanes out of small crevices.

Lin never expected that pass from Chandler and it made the whole sequence looked awkward. But you can bet that Lin would look for that type of pass from him again. Had Lin charged to the basket right after the pass that play would have been dynamite. That play showed why Tyson was such a good PNR partner for Lin. They have enough court and bball iq to know how to use space and manipulate timing for one another.

Lin’s problem with all the past teams he’s had except for MDA was that he’s decisions are often like chandler’s pass to nobody. But a good teammate will cover for you and learn to add new patterns between the 2 of you. MDA never questioned about Lin’s TOs because mostly they were good TOs. They were forcing players to accept new ways to run plays. On the Hornets, Lin doesn’t have the ball in hand very much and he has no respect for his teammates when it comes to running anything other than what Clifford’s game plan is. It’s just way too hard to develop chemistry with those two doors in the way.

  • JoeTeam

so that sort of ends the argument on MVP … some if they sit improve the team. JLin and we have experienced ‘stars’ next to him where when he gets the ball while they are sitting, the team improves (Melo, Harden, Kobe).

  • tom

If you cant produce on that end, you are not that useful

  • JoeTeam

he’s expressing bitterness while sitting on not just the $4B sale price, but say near 30 yrs of merchandising royalties.

This is ungracious, and then we see him at the Kennedy Center getting honored next to Carole King, Seiji Ozawa, etc. I like his creations (American Graffiti, THX1138, Star Wars). Only the Star Wars story was an amalgamation of western myths, and the medium was right for someone who did an excellent job to profit by it. For him to be more gracious would be a good thing for humanity.

That’s why I guess we’re on the JLin bus, because why try to be great if we a all alone and diminish others while we sit on top?

  • JoeTeam

Then maybe late next week. H Barnes must have a huge sprain.

  • JoeTeam

Sorry you experienced that … may you see JLin many times!

  • Rick Johnson

It will be more strain on him to play Toronto because it’s the first of a B2B with OKC the next day. Seems like he’d have significantly more healing if he skipped Toronto and played OKC then has another day off before playing GSW.

  • JoeTeam

But coming off the bench one has to make things happen much faster. It’s a defined role and that’s what they talk about when they say themselves they have to be a spark off the bench.

  • 1mtoldman

there are numbers here somewhere from lin-cyclopedia arsenium on the +/- when curry’s not on the floor. admittedly its a small sample size in its own way because he’s almost always on the floor; bit its ridiculous.

and then just record was in the 7 games curry has missed over what i guess last 2 seasons they’re 1-6.

yeah there are numerous articles on line after that game saying well no more debate about is curry mvp.

  • 1mtoldman

and we’re talking about star wars suddenly because???? (i mean why weren’t we talking about it when it came out and everybody stood in line to see it two weeks ago?)

  • 1mtoldman

is toronto out and okc in? if so yeah dont take the trip. and its not just a road trip (if so) its going to a strange foreign land: oh canada.

  • 1mtoldman

here’s the numbers i was trying to recall…. In their first game without Curry this season, the Warriors lost by 23 points. Golden State is 1-6 without Curry over the last 3 seasons and it has been outscored by 101 points in 460 minutes with Curry off the floor this season..

  • kauaiblue

Thats why we watch hornets… duh…

  • Briiick

A supporting management is also needed otherwise MDA could have been in situations like coaching Melo or Kobe.

  • DX

Agree with many said, PJ is just place holder for MKG.

  • DX

Now Raptors are praying for Lin out.

  • kauaiblue

Michael cooper of the great 1980s showtime lakers suffered a sprain in 1988… he was never the same afterward…

  • occupatio

lorenzo is a lin fan before he was hornets fan, afaik.

  • NONONO

I wonder Lamb’s performance has been largely impacted by Lin’s role. Le had been played well with Lin in BF1 and name the top duo in the NBA bench. But we know Lamb always has the weak defense issues, and Clifford replaced him with Lin to close some tough games. Lin’s play style not just create more chancesfor teammates to scores, he also played great defense to clean some teammates’ mess which no one seems care except Lin fans. IN past 10(?) games, Clifford has gave Lin more minutes to play with the starters (actually to clean up the starters’ mess and promote Kemba and Batom for All-Star?) . He also let Kemba played pg for with the bench. The results is Lin played less PG and Lamb got less scoring chances. In the meantime, his weak defense got totally exposed. I am not sure he would be better than PJ overall.

  • xeroid

Well, Al Jefferson will be out for 6 weeks at least after arthroscopic knee surgery. Hornets will be short handed with Hawes still out. I guess they will need Lin to save the day.

  • occupatio

obviously lamb has been impacted by not playing with lin as PG.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Saw a clip when JLin walked out from player tunnel that he was a little limping. It doesn’t look good he is able to play the next game.

  • sws94

Lin always closed games before Lamb. Clifford tried Lamb in just a few games, but Lin closed most games.

I think it was the plan all along for Lin to get more minute but not for Lamb to get less. Lamb, by far, plays best in Lin’s unit. He’s best working off of LIn.

  • TTNN

A little bit wired timing to raise this though, PJ has been playing well recently, both offensive and defense side over Lamb. So pretty easy for other Hornets fan to ignore you and consider you have an agenda to get Lin min by don’t want to play PJ. might be hard to make a case at this moment.

  • TTNN

Lamb benefit by playing together with Lin both offensively and defensively. On the court, Lin always remind Lamb where he need to go, and also help to cover his man, and Lamb need to help on Lin’s man so that he will have enough response time. They worked well that way, so Lamb’s defense looks okay, but when coach though Lamb was really okay and trying to increase his time and play him more with 1st line up, Lamb fail pretty bad there, since there is no one taking care of him.

I just hope coach will optimize Lamb’s effect by playing him with Lin more together, however, if Lamb by himself pay less attention in defense and put less efforts in, nobody could help him.

My feeling is that the team had less buy in within the players now, thus there is just less effort in the defensive side. It is not like at the beginning of the season, everyone are on the same page and trying to play out their identity. Now, not sure whether some players start to think about themselves, or the team were not really fair, feels like there is less effort throughout the team.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Guess? I think you missed last night game.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    Experiment is over. Bravo.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Yes move Batum to MKG place and have Lin and Kemba to start.

  • NONONO

The problem is Kemba is too small to play SG. If he plays PG and Lin play SG, Kemba is not good (or do not want to ) at passing. So Lin will become less effective.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    🙁

  • NONONO

I hope he sits out until he is 100% health and ready.

  • spiderman

There were several references to it then. I think the good vs evil aspect of Star Wars applies to Lin and NBA

  • LinMad

    why was Curry out?

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Lin can play 2 until Kemba sit.

  • JoeTeam

bummer to know this, that Curry makes that much a difference. Seems then there isn’t a system that can win, that we need heroes. But then again, maybe as acbc says, the system needs to be flexible to whomever can play. They did lose their first this year when KT was out, so it’s not like Steph is the only wheel. Maybe just a big wheel.

  • JoeTeam

calf injury. Didn’t hear it as ankle.

  • JoeTeam

yeah, I’ve had one of those starting from high school all the way to now, with calcification that needs to be removed but not urgent. I had a friend once who had to stop all sports due to an ankle injury that was like – if she kept going, it would be crutches for the rest of her life or something like that. Ankles are complex joints with very little blood flow. It is hard to get swelling down, so you’re sort of stuck with RICE and ibuprofen.

  • JoeTeam

I didn’t watch yesterday, why did Lamb do so good? 6 fouls though, weird.

  • JoeTeam

    he did a non sequitur

  • JoeTeam

he was out of ideas, as indicated by how bad his judgement was on the prequels. Jar Jar, changing who shot first in the digital re-release of the orig, etc. Check out this famous Rutger Hauer voiced quote from the end of Blade Runner:

hey all, if you are watching bball, have a good look at GSW v Rox. GSW are recovering off Curry’s absence with a hot KT.

  • sport

It’s exactly why some made fun of those who said KT was the best SG of the league. If KT was best SG he would be able to lead the team to wins without Curry just like Blake Griffin could lead the team without Chris Paul! It was because of leading the team without CP3 that Blake was ranked no.3 for MVP votes 2 seasons ago.

Have a very blessed new year from Down Under!

I was totally wiped out by having guests over for the past week and brought them around Byron Bay, Tweed Heads, Gold Coast, North Stradbroke Island, Montville, Noosa Heads, etc.

Didn’t have chance to watch last game and couldn’t catch up with JLin and Hornets news. It’s only 10:42am and feel like I need to sleep for few days:-(

Had a chance to look at a clip of JLin’s entrance to arena last game. He was a little limp as he walked. Doesn’t look good that he is able to play next game.

What’s going on with Al??? Can anyone explain the injury?? When and what??? Thanks in advance!

Ok. Sound like he is going to be out for much longer. It took JLin for about a year to be back to his form. Yeah it can go back to play but don’t think he will be his old self for much longer time. Not much of his help for this season.

Happy new year to you and everyone in your family.

I may have a bias against sloppy coaching. I find their whole situation with kW and Batum playing 40+ minutes ridiculous. I don’t know whose fault it is but it’s killing the team. BF1 is now no more simply because there’s not enough minutes left for Lamb to play. If Lamb fails to develop as a player, it’s becuase he hasn’t been on the floor with coach Lin enough to learn how to play the game. Most players don’t think, I fact they are scare to think. They get all jumbled up inside with ideas that they can’t flow. It’s a great big lie that all lazy coaches have been pandering forever. We get that all the time in tennis, coaches routinely tell players just go out and bash the ball and play your game. This is okay if your game matches up to your opponents game but if they mismatch your skills, you will lose to them all the time. Even the great Federer has his nemesis in Nadal and now Djoker. It’s a great big lie. Young football players from peewee up have had to memorized plays and then execute them. Football coaches from youngsters to pro know that mismatching tactic and strategies is the key to winning.

It’s good that Curry recognizes the need to step back to let others play. Kerr really should take Curry off more often to take away the temptations to rely on Curry. I hope they learned a lesson form this loss and force guys to nit defer and make their own destiny.

Lessons learned from losses are the greatest gifts. Don’t ever waste that lesson.

  • Rick Johnson

Now CF having a meltdown complaining of Harden ISO ball and no defense. What Lin fans had been saying for years.

  • JoeTeam

Ha ha he just did. GSW bouncing back is what they need to do so they are too reliant on one thing.

  • JoeTeam

I know people like that – you advise them to do something to better the community, and they said they are already working on it though it is untrue. V hard to be close to people like that.

  • JoeTeam

that was a great game. I take back my criticism of DGreen. He showed great leadership tonight, never once grandstanding humble. He got 16 assists and triple doubled again.

Funny, Rox play better as a team now. Bev did ok, but Harden needs a splash brother. Too bad he didn’t know it then, he pretty much removed JLin before his own game matured.

  • Acbc

That’s the beauty of a coaches trust. When you force them to bring it, you just never know what will come out. Fight or flight is such strong instincts. Until a coach actually test someone under fire, you will never take the beast that’s inside of them out. It could be a mouse or a dragon. They must always cross that bridge and a good coach will nudge them onto incremental bridges with process and care.

Too bad Lin hasn’t had a coach since MDA who actually believed in him.

  • Acbc

So happy for Ed that he’s also out of LA.

  • sport

Ed Davis had a lot of potential as a starting PF. He can go up strong for dunks play PnR and willing to play team ball! It’s too bad we didn’t get to see much of Lin x Ed last season. If they can join on the same team again it would be so much fun! Only thing is that Ed doesn’t have much range and as a PF he really lacks a mid range jumper.

  • Acbc

Jeremy Lin is the brightest light for all of us and he brought us together to witness a change that we all need in this world. Love, kindness respect and mostly for me the lesson of forgiveness. With out Linsnaity we’d be separate entities in this world. I want Lin to be the brightest light again, not for me, but for all the other fence sitters out there who brushes him of as a fluke. Let Lin be the light that shines again to show how humility and compassion can bring all of us success and happiness.

  • sport

Yes they got too comfortable with an amazing player who can efficiently give them 30+ points every game and draw all the attention.

  • sport

I truly think with all these hidden agendas no coach will ever utilize Lin properly except MDA. A great coach is very important and without a great coach like Erik Spoelstra, Lebron’s premature “legacy” of only 2 Championships is closing fast especially now that he’s older. GSW is just too strong, if they stay together they can go for many Championships. I really want to know whether they can beat Bulls’ winning record for an entire season. They only have 7 more losses before losing that chance.

  • JoeTeam

the problem with harden isnt ISO or even defense per se, but that he is uncoachable. he does whatever he wants and no one can say otherwise, unless the coach wants to be fired.

the coaches in the league all talk amongst each other, so they know what’s up. thats why i have a hard time imagining a quality coach who would be happy to take that job.

many lin fans have said that the rockets will never go anywhere if harden is their main guy. some rox fans have started to say that too. but rox fans are still looking for a solution, especially looking for a better coach. but harden is uncoachable, so that entire line of thinking is misguided.

It’s always been Morey. His style of running the team is to make sure he gets the credit and not the coach. Kind like the way the MJ Bulls broke up with the battle between Krause and Jackson. Mchale was a yes man and he did the deed to destroy Lin and promote Harden. Harden was Morey’s gem. That’s why he became untouchable. Same in LA with Kobe and NYC with Melo. Although Jackson has put Melo in his place now without the protection of Dolan.

JLIN’s Coachability makes him EXCEPTIONAL in NBA.

Don’t matter it’s ignorant Byron Scott or brilliant Mike D’Antoni – JLIN always does whatever coach asks him.

Harden uncoachable, NBA replete with them. Also young guys start a bit coachable then think they’re special & become uncoachable – JLIN never like that.

If Cliff says guard man X & let NB/KW isoball – JLIN Complies – no questions asked. JLIN might think “we could exploit opponent’s weakness better a different way” BUT JLIN would not insert his opinion over Coach.

Because of what a coach asks of JLIN, his stats can Fluctuate/Slump depending on his role. (JLIN Fans wish it were different oftentimes)

JLIN’s coachability isn’t lost on coaches like MDA.
-How refreshing is it for a coach to give a PG an order and have it always carried out?
-How nice to know if you tell a player to play DEFENSE, that he won’t go to the FO to try to get you fired?
-How comforting to know your PG has the intelligence and skills to adjust on the fly if opponent does something different?

JLIN is someone a coach can TRUST, have FAITH in, and RELY on to do what is asked of him. Why CLIFF has JLIN end games.

    That’s Exceptional in NBA.

    JLIN to Sixers!!

  • james brown

or to the bulls when Rose leave them.

  • donsmacau

I just wouldn’t trust at this stage of the NBA climate toward JLIN for him to go anywhere other than Colangelo/MDA controlled team to get a starting spot. If he were to take a chance with any other team, I’d just as soon prefer he stay with Charlotte.
Sixers pursuing JLIN as their starter, I would imagine that JLIN can trust their word over anyone else in the NBA by a mile.

  • NONONO
  • donsmacau

Well he sat out practice yesterday with swelling is what I heard. I hope he rests his ankle and allows it to heal completely – the season is long and sprains unpredictable sometimes.

If I were JLIN’s agent, I’d call him and tell him to heal up and not play the Raptors game.
My sympathies to those who purchased tickets to the game.

  • NONONO

I agree. In the meantime, I hope someone can step up and lead the team to beat Raptors in case Li sits out. If Kemba try to be shooting hero again (it usually means crap defense), Hornets would lose.

  • donsmacau

Raptors play good team ball and to beat them you have to play good team ball which is what JLIN and Hornets did against them the first time.

  • CJSHYY

This didn’t sound like Lin will play more from Cliff’s hope…? Clifford said he is hopeful that guard Jeremy Lin will be available against the Raptors. Lin missed the Clippers game with an ankle injury.

I know some believe this is a done case, but how likely is the Sixers to sign Lin when they now have Ish Smith…

Based on stats, you can easily state Lin is better than Ish, but he’s doing well under D’antoni’s system and the Sixers gave up 2 second round pick to acquire him…After half a season, can they possibly throw him to the side and give the PG job to Lin.

Also, Ish will be cheaper while the 6ers will have to pay up for Lin…My best guess is if they bring in Lin, it would be to team up with Ish and Lin would be the SG.

Also, what’s the chance of D’antoni and the 6ers doing so well that another team signs D’Antoni as their coach?..So maybe Lin could be re-united with D’Antoni under another team…

  • NONONO

    I am out too.

Haha! I am more interested in 76 vs Lakers game bc I want to know how Ish plays. Plus want to see MDA beat Lakers. LOL!

  • Briiick

Last time Batum was out and Lin helped his team win against TOR. This time Lin is out, let’s see how Batum helps his team.

  • 1mtoldman

yeah. these two teams the last season and this so far are: 48-183 this season only 9-58

its said nerlens noel wanted ish back and noel has been doing much better with ish back (but they may also have to do with okafor being out some too).

another tankathon legendary matchup; the ben simmons bowl.

  • donsmacau

Colangelo (new Head of Basketball Ops.) and D’Antoni are longtime drinking buddies so it’s much more likely as rumor has it in Philly that Brown lasts 18 months despite the fact they extended his contract.

Ish Smith is a stop-gap measure MDA needs NOW to familiarize the young team on his offensive scheme and stem the corrosive psyche destroying loss mentality to prepare them for next season.

Ish is the quintessential benchwarming journeyman on unguaranteed contract, 10 teams/6yrs. He has good handles but JLIN beats him in just about every other quality and metric you need in a PG in MDA’s system, including his court awareness, defense, unselfishness, shot creation, seeing plays unfold, height and everything else. Ish has performed fine, though game before he shot 22 times hitting 6 with another 6 turnovers, that shows he is a bit unpolished/undisciplined and coaches note that.

If 76ers find a backup for JLIN better than Ish, they’ll let Is go. The only person left on the Sixers organization that still values 2nd round picks is Sam Hinkie who might not have a job for much longer as is.

Personal feeling is Hornets desperately need bigs now and trade for Embiid,Noel or Okafor and say a shooting guard for JLIN, Frank could be coming. If nothing else JLIN to Sixers next season.

  • 1mtoldman

much of what you say above contained what i was going to say. good research and or knowledge.

hinkie is “effectively fired” as one source put it (despite team/league denials)–nba godfather figure colangelo was brought in to end “the process”.

actually the 10 teams/6 yrs. doesn’t really even begin to touch the surface of the ish experience. i believe i counted 22 transactions in those 6 years: ie. he’s been “transacted” (traded, waived, assigned, recalled) 22 times!!!

i guess its a testament to his perseverance to actually this season first with no due to injuries and now with 6ers do to management turnover get the biggest opporutnite(s) of his long and winding career.

noel is said to have wanted ish back and has been performing better with ish but that may be (i think i noted this elsewhere here) do to abscence of okafor:

in your opinion of 6ers let go one of two who will it be: okafor or noel?

  • sws94

Batum may not play either. But he’ll probably make himself play due to Lin being out.

  • CJSHYY

Not sure Batum will play or not today….?

    https://twitter.com/HornetsPR/status/682972901759389696

  • donsmacau

I always thought it would be Nerlens Noel for the rim protection.

Now that big Al is gone, I’m thinking that Cho is going to change to Okafor (or both but then Cho needs to give up some more assets)

  • 1mtoldman

to beat them before they to have the perfect storm of a. batum not available so b. lin can go hairsanity and c. lowrey uncharacteristically chucking 1-13 and 0-8 3’s at the start of the game. d. oh and an overtime e. and what one poster here called “divine intervention” with the waived long shot by f.t. called at end regulation.

  • sws94

Well, it’s necessary. He has to get back only when he can play on the ankle and it’s not going to make it any worse than it is. Right now, he can’t go. That’s why I was so grateful for all of the games he went this year being able to play on the floor. On the positive side, other areas of his body that were bruised and battered will get a rest while his ankle gets treatment and heals.

  • Rick Johnson

Lin getting more and more national media attention. https://twitter.com/linfinity88/status/682972282172489730?s=09

  • CJSHYY

Good to see this. His agent finally do something?! Sure hope so…LOL!

  • sws94

Exactly. Hornets came one timeout away from losing that game. Lowry had an absolutely horrible shooting percentage night and still scored 20. DeRozan had a 30 plus scoring night and almost put all of the great game by Lin to be just empty stats with that buzzer beater that didn’t count.

  • 1mtoldman

just doing a nba news search also turns up a lot of headlines still about kobe’s physical smashing of lin not drawing a flagrant and then kobe complaining that he got a foul at all. 90% anti kobe pro lin sentiment in both articles and the comments.

  • Rick Johnson

Not only playing better, maybe it’s the hair. Like Harden and the beard. NBA getting more and more like the WWF pro wrestling.

  • new TOR game thread
    http://www.jlinportal.com/g2-cha-tor-game-thread/

Will JLin play? He is listed probable but since he was seen limping 2 days ago, let’s hope he rests his ankle until he is 100%. He simply can’t afford to have lingering injury this season.

    https://twitter.com/manu77728/status/682903637224329216

It will be another interesting game to see if the Hornets struggle defensively like the last game vs the Clippers by giving up the season record 122 points in a loss. But another loss means the #9 Hornets in Eastern Conference Standing is slipping further away from the playoff run.

    Let’s go, Hornets!

  • sws94

Might want to update that to he’s not playing. The official word came down from Hornets twitter.

  • 1mtoldman

yeah actually linking back to the no flagrant call thing on lin a lot of mainstream posters and long time fans are calling out the offcials for “star” treatment reffing; that its as you say more playing to a script.

that its primarily “sports entertainment” featuring the stars you either love or love to hate.

  • tom

Dont think sixers are a option for Lin since they will still be bad
ish smith can keep trying but i doubt he will be taken seriously

  • sws94

I just see all of this as premature. Where Lin, the Sixers, and so many options will be at the end of the year is a huge unknown. We’re entertaining one of many scenarios as if it is the most likely one and it may not be. I understand the enthusiasm with MDA, but the fact remains, it is only one possibility of pieces that haven’t fallen into place yet.

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

I thought it was a foregone conclusion Lin is officially out for tonight’s game.

  • Acbc

IMO, Sixers won’t trade such important assets when Lin is free at the end of the season. It makes absolutely no sense. They can their cake and eat it then. This season is already lost. They can’t make the playoff this year. They will do much better than most people expect. I’d expect them to win half of their remaining games and take that positive attitude to next year.

  • JJ Hui
