G24 CHA @ORL Game Thread

After a long 3-day break, the Hornets is facing Orlando Magic on a road game. After seeing Kemba and Batum ISO plays in the last 2 min of Celtics game failed to get a win, would we see more team-ball if the game is close today? It’s encouraging to see Coach Clifford asked JLin to orchestrate the offense more in the 2nd quarter even when Kemba was on the floor. It might take some time before Lin can be the playmaker during crunch time in the 4th quarter or OT but it’s a good progression to expand JLin’s role as the best playmaker to encourage the Hornets to play team-ball.

Let’s go, JLin! Let’s continue to shoot at least 8FG  & 4 FT attempts. Relax, be your aggressive self & just play your game on matter what happens

I wonder we should have a NBA all star thread. Lin’s individual stats, role and play times do not help him. But all his fans know people (include coaches, owners, refs, NBA fans) have underestimated him intentionally or unintentionally. I think he had some chance since few guards are crazy outstanding like those in West.

  • jakey

Please don’t trade Lin! Blubell, LAJane and I are going to the Jan. 9th game! To see JLin school CP3 ?

  • NONONO

There are also many different ways to vote to send Lin to Toronto on social media:

Facebook: Post a status with ‪#‎NBAVOTE Jeremy Lin

    Twitter: Include Jeremy Lin #NBAVote.

Instagram: Post a photo with “Jeremy Lin” or handle using #NBAVote.

Google: This year, fans can also vote using Google by searching “NBAVote All-Star”, then selecting a team from the resulting Category Card. Users must then select “Jeremy Lin ” to vote for, clicking the “vote” button to submit votes.”

  • CJSHYY

    Hornets will not trade Lin.

  • NONONO

I wish at least there was some talks. Lin might want to commit for one season before thinking of any change.

Trade talks are distracting to players. They feel they had a loyalty to a team and then they may have to go then make it to somewhere else. It would be nice if he didn’t have to deal with that this season.

  • DX

    Thanks!

  • wu kong

Just messing around with some stats and I was very surprised to see that Houston was ranked second to last in TO and Hornets were ranked first… Houston 17.0 TO avg per game: Hornets 12.4 TO avg per game…

    also just for jollies:

per 48 harden has 5.8 TO per game: JLin 3.3 TO per game…

This stuff still just burns me up that JLin TO machine still haunts him and that Harden is not being burned on a daily basis for his TO’s…

Just thought I would share my findings.

  • CJSHYY

Can’t listen right now. But got this from fans- Lin says Troy Daniels is the best shooter on the team & he was pretty diplomatic about the cliffy extension. he does like to mention, get in the first punch/not GET punched in the first quarter.

  • i think, though, that harden’s had his share of burning this season.

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Harden turn-overs are more accepted around the league because he has a high usage and scores a lot to balance out the turn-overs.

Most super stars that have high usage will have quite a few turn-overs…

  • wu kong

so did Jlin during Linsanity but the TO roasting still occured and still haunts him today.

  • NONONO

Unfortunately, All Lin’s coaches (including Cliff, excluding MDA) do not appreciate Lin’s contributions and the team orientated play style.

    this may be old news:

Marc J. Spears: Hornets say Al Jefferson is cleared to play (calf strain) and will be active. He will serve first of five game suspension tonight at Orlando

    – via Twitter SpearsNBAYahoo

  • It’s funny when JLin wished to yell at some players as a coach to know what it feels like, the clip showed Al Jefferson LOL
    (refresh for pic)

Who remembers Lin yelling at DMo in HOU for blowing a defensive assignment?
    “DMoooooo! …”

  • occupatio

cant really compare turnovers between players if they dont handle the ball the same amount per 48min.

harden gets a free pass for turnovers, to be sure, but i wouldnt make the pt by comparing him to a sometimes-PG player such as lin.

well, one of kemba’s strengths is he doesnt turn it over — cuz he always shoots when in doubt. not a bad habit to have; wish lin did that more.

  • wu kong

did you see that chart of ast per 100 possessions?

  • grover chang

Lin gets unequal treatment for sure but hardens flaws are getting more attention since they are now losing.

  • occupatio

ah yes. i did. thanks. im still a bit confused about how possessions are being calculated (nba.com is not transparent about it, and more generally, it is a somewhat controversial pt in ‘advanced’ stats). but the pattern exactly parallels the per36 numbers so if anybody does reference the pattern, i think the per36 are better to use, and certainly more intuitive.

  • occupatio

and i saved your JPGs, in case.

  • Rzo Vlade
  • wu kong

all the per 48/ per 36 /per 100 possessions data are simply linear scale ups. Which can cause errors for sure (positve and negative) but are used as a standard for comparing players.

  • wu kong

the per 48 and per 36 values are pretty standard for comparing players on basic stats. and of course you can get more complicated about looking at usage etc.. feel free I am not interested in doing that deep of analysis but 5.8 to 3.3 per 48 is a huge difference.

I still think this is just another case where JLin is held to some crazy standard and roasted by the media and public for something that other players are also as bad or worse at without the overblown scrutiny

  • occupatio

among ESPN, nba.com, and basketballreference, at least one of them calculates possessions differently. i dont remmeber which cuz i haven looked at it for a long time.

one of the issues is whether or not AST should be counted. IIRC, ESPN counts them. but strictly speaking an AST does not constitute a possesion. in any case, if the goal is to compare AST totals, then whether or not AST is counted, would matter.

  • wu kong

if what you are looking for is exact numbers you will have to watch film and count ( or pay for synergy stats) If you want trends what I did using NBA stats data is good enough

  • wu kong

http://espn730.com/page.php?page_id=66 links here on right side of page. not video its a radio show so audio only

  • CHA vs ORL matchup shows Hornets is better in PPG, FG%, TO rate but Magic is better in rebounds & steals.
    Everything else seems about even

    https://twitter.com/Loveforlife0323/status/677063864039505920

  • wu kong

big game… If they win they can start getting some separation from the pack in the Eastern Conference

  • occupatio

“of course you can get more complicated about looking at usage etc..”

it is better to be simpler than more complicated. because theres a lot of sketchy stuff that happens with stats like Usage, and more importantly, because it is easier for audiences to understand, trust, and take into consideration

  • Acbc

There are good TOs and bad ones. Guys like Kamba don’t make that many TOs because they don’t pass much. They ISO more to create shots for themselves. It’s total BS to compare apples to oranges.

Lin and almost all PGs in the league play a different game. Lin doesn’t just pass, HE SETS UP teammates by being an attacking PG that creates space for his teammates. Lin puts himself in harms way! Lin draws defences so that alone means his chance of being stopped or stripped, or blocked is 3 times more than Kemba. Why do ALL THE COACHES IN THE NBA TRY TO STOP LIN? They do it for precisely the reason that Lin is the master of chaos and he brings the Lin express with him! Lin forces defenders to react to him but unlike Kemba, Lin is a PG that is a willing passer in spite of making TOs to do it. Lin is willing to take the long view to involve and teach his teammates new patterns and new ways to play. That’s why he’s coach Lin.

People will never appreciate Lin while he plays with them because Lin is an ” invisible hand” that pushes his teammates to evolve into new roles and then new players. Lin not only coaches them, he positively influence their confidence and psyche. Once Lin leaves, all that ” invisible hands” support is gone and by subtraction, the team reverts back to old ways.

  • wu kong

“Lin is the master of chaos and he brings the Lin express with him!” Love it!!!!!… I’m stealing this and tweeting it with my next all star vote! 🙂

  • Joe what do you know

I think with TOs, it is better to take possessions into account as well. Not trying to defend Harden here at all, but to really shut down Harden apologists, we need some better stats than a simple TOs to minutes figure…

  • 1mtoldman

Since the start of November, only two Eastern Conference teams have a better home record than the Orlando Magic.
    (Cleveland and Indiana)

Playing under Scott Skiles, the Magic are one of the league leaders in defensive field-goal percentage at 42.6 and improved to 10-2 when holding opponents to 95 points or less.

hornets (as most nba teams) have a losing record on the road.

charlotte and orlando are tied for the best record in the east (7-3) over their last 10 games.

both teams give up about the same about of points per game (98) on average; but hornets (on average) score a couple points more per game.

  • yes, they’re in #4 now
If they win, they can be #3. But if they Lose, they can be #7

Clifford has to pull all cards to win. This bodes well for JLin’s playmaking ability to not waste possessions with too many ISOs. Let’s hope so

    http://espn.go.com/nba/standings

  • your son’s voltaire

lol Lin was struggling to find great things to say about clifford’s signing..

    http://cdn.stationcaster.com/stations/wzgv/media/mp3/Jeremy_lin-1450300349.mp3

  • wu kong

Nothing will shut them down. If JLin had Hardens TO’s they would burn effigies of him especially if they were losing like they are now. many are still defending Harden as ‘the man’ and blaming Howard for their woes. I post this here because I know people here get it and understand the frustration and injustice of it all. I do not even bother trying to converse with Houston/Harden fans

  • wu kong

yep that attempt to simplify a rating is what is behind the various advance stats like PER. Trying to find one number you can use across the league to really rank player’s usefulness against each other… All of this is very much still in its infancy. The synergistic aspect of a team is very complex and no one is anywhere near quantifying that.

magic broadcasters have referenced lin several times in their pregame and show lin attacking basket; said he got reputation for penetrating to the basket in new york and is doing the same things in charlotte.

also mentioned lin/lamb as highest scoring backguard bench pair.

  • wow, 1st time in 10 years Hornets lead in the division?
    Linning time, baby!

  • LinMad

Did Cliff just say “If you look at our team play it’s what makes the difference”?

  • LinMad

We really need this win. I was hoping we would win last game so we can have a greater chance to be #1 in EC.

  • Briiick

    Hornets need it.

  • LinMad

    Good movement so far

  • PJ made a 3 then blew a layup..
    Hmmm

  • LinMad

  • LinMad

I like how Kemba is trying to PnR but he’s not connecting

  • occupatio

fournier is their best player. always liked him when he was in denver.

  • LinMad

Kemba is not doing a good job at PG today

  • cdblue10

Imagine if Lin is starting with Batum, this team could compete with the best guard in NBA

  • 1mtoldman

wow how many turnovers is that for the hornets?

  • LinMad

    5 TOs

  • Alain Gervais

    typical starters

  • cdblue10

With Kemba’s size everything will just get more difficult starting from here.

  • 2 TOs each for Kemba & Hairston
    1 TO on MW

  • sws94

Same problem as usual, starters off to a slow start.

  • 1mtoldman

and that “turnovermachine” lin isn’t even in the game yet.

  • LinMad

    BF1 to the rescue again

  • rookie75094

I am sick and tire of watching the starters sucking it then the bench have to bail them out!!

  • LinMad

Lin said we need to come out with a punch in the 1st qtr, not get punched right?

  • 1mtoldman

starters diging their usual 2 to 1 down almost hole for the rescuers.

  • Here we go again down 8-15 with 6.5min left in Q1

  • Will Lin be the 1st or 2nd off the bench like the past few games?

  • LinMad

and im tired of how the coaches/media talk so highly of the starters when it should be the bench

  • rookie75094

here is an idea Clifford…how bout starting the bench!

  • LinMad

or giving them more time on the floor

  • cdblue10

Williams to the rescue for Walker

  • LinMad

Now Batum is playmaking. It might be one of those days where Batum gets 9 TOs.

  • LW

The Hornets are at #4, but looking at their starters play uninspired so far, they couldn’t possibly deserve #4!

  • Briiick

The 1st unit is in Cliff’s comfort zone, reflecting his coaching and system. The 2nd unit has a floor coach Lin.

  • LinMad

    MW is our only hope

  • heart

Was wondering when Cliff call a time out. Stuck w/his prescript game plan. Why didn’t he sub Lin/BF! sooner? KW w/ 2TO in first 4min.

  • LinMad

    they are #5

  • cdblue10

This team looks like a d league team

  • 1mtoldman

    brutal

    this is ridiculous

  • rookie75094

    FFF the starters!!!

  • LinMad

    our starters defense sucks too.

  • Magic has great ball movement.
The Hornets bench has to play a lot of min to win this game

  • cdblue10

    Put Lin in

  • rookie75094

    about time

  • LinMad

and they better not slide Kemba or Batum in when Lin is hot

  • 1mtoldman

hornets are in trouble of hairston is their leading scorer.

  • cdblue10

As I said his size is his downfall

  • blubell

    Lin in

  • That missed layup among the 3s might as well be TO
That led to a Magic fastbreak & layup

  • LinMad

Lin in with the super sayian hair

  • yesss 3 min left in Q1
    Hornets trailing 17-25

  • Singapore BB Fan

cliff is too rigid with the rotation. don’t wait till opponents shooters get too hot

  • LinMad

Q2 is where Lin actually gets to unleash himself. 1st qtr he’s still in with Batum/Kemba so he’s more of a defender

  • cdblue10

It’s really hard to win a lot of gAmes if they always like this

  • xeroid

Kemba is reverting to means with bad shooting and turnovers.

  • LinMad

I would have kept PJ in as crazy as it sounds, he was only one who was scoring

  • cdblue10

That’s the 3rd time coach needs to wake up,he’s not a superstar player

  • cdblue10

    Kissed off the glass

  • blubell

  • LinMad

    pretty shot

  • LinMad

    Lin making it look easy

  • CJSHYY

Lin is more in charge even w Kemba now… good to see this. Finally take more shots.

  • cdblue10

Geeezzz you’re totally blind as a coach if you don’t see a better player

  • sws94

Good, he’s got to keep working on the stepback rhythm but, he looks good.

  • Alain Gervais

That step back shot has not been consistent enough but always close. Can literally get that every time

  • blubell

Bank shot and a finger roll. 4 pts in 3min. Great start. Keep shooting!

  • Briiick

I like it that Cliff let Lin facilitate even when KW is on the floor during the last minute. Guess he is panic.

  • LinMad

Lin looking confident with his shots.

  • heart

KW practically played the entire 1st quarter?!?

  • blubell

    Per usual.

  • LinMad

It doesn’t matter if Lin outshines Kemba, it’s all for the good of the team. When Kemba gets jelly about Lin outshining Kemba in 1st half, he will try harder in 3rd qtr. Coach needs to let Lin shine so Kemba can try harder.

  • Singapore BB Fan

Lin sets the pace. nice to see. observe the orlando magic players are unsettled when Lin came in and set the pace

  • Briiick

If KW didn’t play with Lin for a while he would have been all negative to his team.

  • cdblue10

Losing on this game means they will go #7

  • Adnan Ahsan

Who’s guarding oladipo on the made 3?

  • blubell

    Good D

  • cdblue10

    C’mon Kaminsky

  • LinMad

aww frank…that was a beautiful play too

  • Alain Gervais

    Frank three early mistakes

  • blubell

    Bullet pass

  • cdblue10

    What a pass

  • cdblue10

    Nice Lamb

  • Alain Gervais

    Orlando making ridiculous shots

  • This is a good ORL bench.
Bench Force 1 need to execute well now

  • zxcvb

Lin is such a great leader. Kaminsky screwed up 3 times in a row — and Lin fed him anyway for an easy layup.

  • NONONO

    no assist for lin?

  • LinMad

good job Lamb. Good job 2nd unit.

  • LinMad

    he has 1 assist

  • cdblue10

    Nice Hawes

  • zxcvb

And now Frank has the confidence to hit a long jumper. All Lin, who kept feeding him despite mistakes.

  • cdblue10

I think this is the starter…lol

  • LinMad

    Nice one Frank

  • Lin just switched from defending Oladipo to Payton

  • zxcvb

Good ball denial on Lin by Payton.

  • Alain Gervais

    He was doing the damage

  • occupatio

hornets starters suck. just amazing that a top seeded team has starters that regularly underperform the bench. what a joke.

  • good, Lin is the shutdown defender nowadays =]

  • Alain Gervais

    Lol yep

  • LinMad

any team that benches Lin will have this problem lol Lakers did

  • it’s almost like they’re showcasing Hairston & Kemba but yeah, underperform is an understatement :]

  • Joe what do you know

    Com’on man, it’s a blessing in disguise…

  • NONONO

Walker PG and Lin in cornor – again, again and again. It never works. Cliff better let Lin play PG and let Walker watch and learn.

  • Hawes and Kam missed so many easy layup & putback.
    Rust from 3-day break?

  • zxcvb

Lin’s gotta shoot that. What the heck, Jeremy?

  • Alain Gervais

Now olidipo beating Lamb. man is he a bad defender or what??

  • LinMad

we need a better big on this team that can finish strong layups

  • gandychan

Wtf. Finish that! It looked more like a finger roll to hawes. That rim was open ffs!

  • 1mtoldman

i haven’t seen him successfully guard anyone yet this season.

  • Singapore BB Fan

    Batum should return now.

  • zxcvb

I thought it was blocked at first because there’s no way he shouldn’t have shot that.

  • cdblue10

    Al =Chandler Tyson

  • NONONO

Lin miss Cody for good D, good screen and PnR

  • LinMad

there were like 3 guys on Lin, it was a good move to finger roll pass to Hawes

  • sws94

    Should have shot it.

  • zxcvb

Should have used the floater or done the double-pump layup for FTs.

  • cdblue10

Batum Lin and Williams are their best players, they should be on the floor most of the time

  • blubell

    3333

  • cdblue10

    333

  • Lin for 33333333!!!!!

  • Joe what do you know

You can’t be serious… Tyson gave Jeremy assists. Al takes assists away from Lin…

  • LinMad

    Lin 33333333

  • blubell

Jeremy is fearless going to the basket… Dell Curry

  • cdblue10

    Assist

  • blubell

    Assist

  • IsabeliJane*17

Very winnable game….unless screwed up by either coaching or refs

  • blubell

    Double teamed

  • sws94

That’s the ball handling I want to see from Lin. Great foward movement under ball pressure. Great!

  • zxcvb

Lin’s teammates not defending on making their open shots.

  • Alain Gervais

    We have no energy

  • ORL is starting to trap JLin

  • blubell

    Jeremy still in!

  • IsabeliJane*17

Magic’s plan A – but not working much

  • zxcvb

And he’s beating them. Guys are getting the “escape” pass in the open court but can’t do anything.

  • cdblue10

    Here you go

  • LinMad

    good movement

  • zxcvb

Jeremy’s rotation/sub pattern has definitely changed…for now. This is the role he was promised!

  • 45-50!
    Frank 3 & Batum 3

  • LinMad

    there we go!

  • rookie75094

    here we go…coming back!!!

  • Alain Gervais

And like that a 5 point game. Lamb need to learn how to play defense. and don’t get me started on hawes

  • IsabeliJane*17

Down to 5…very easy for Jeremy to rally the guys and erase this.

  • yes.. Lin is smart & under-control
    Great to see!

  • cdblue10

Even theMagic commentators, they acknowledged Lin as their best player so far.

  • LinMad

I’m glad Cliff made the right adjustments

  • Clifford wants to win desperately =)
Defense, 3s.. he can do it all

  • NONONO

    Lin made a 3? how did i miss it/

  • you blinked? =D

  • zxcvb

Frank played awful to start the game, making 3 mistakes to erase 3 easy buckets. But Jeremy kept feeding him and he got his confidence back. Now he’s 3-4 with 4 rebs!

This stuff never shows up on the boxscore. Kemba and 90% of “elite” PGs cannot do this.

  • LinMad

lol ya u missed it and right after he made an assist to Zeller

  • sws94

Exactly. Way better than he did with Harris. He accelerated, dribbled, accelerated, hesitated, he handled it well to get to his spot to keep the offense in gear. Great job, Lin!

  • Joe what do you know

Too late… You’ve already started it. Yep, Hawes….. Is beyond saving…

  • JLin knows how to empower his teammates as a PG

  • NONONO

he is faster than my 25M wifi

  • LinMad

I notice players play better when they are on the floor with Lin. Even Kemba/Batum.

  • lol

  • blubell

Jeremy is always patient with the bigs

  • JJ Hui

Because they cannot afford to mess up even one game now!

  • sws94

He’s great. Just wish he’d shoot on some drives rather than pass. Otherwise, GREAT!

  • heart

See how Magic Coach, Scott, called time out right away after 2 made 3s. Last game Cliff allowed at least more than 3, 3s before calling a time out.

  • cdblue10

    Walked

  • LinMad

Tyler the only big that is tough

  • IsabeliJane*17

    Freaking Orlando has good shooters.

  • zxcvb

    Kemba ruining everything.

  • zxcvb

Kemba gets beat so easily, it collapses the entire paint — easy 3s.

  • These 2 teams are very similar with penetration & kick out to 3pt shooters,

Except Hornets still do it part-time with JLin

  • rookie75094

    walker is playing horrible d

  • NONONO

Walker 1/6 and 2TOs,, still on the floor?

  • occupatio

lin’s got to hit those open 3s. otherwise, they aint gonna pass to you

  • JJ Hui

Let Lin be PG and this will be a W!!! See KW comes in and killed the lead n so sick of it!

  • zxcvb

Ugh, Kemba. The one time he had a WIDE open jumper…he passes to Lin who misses the long 3.

    Terrible decision-making by Walker.

  • Alain Gervais

The whole team except Lin and Kimensky is just off

  • LinMad

aww Batum should have shot that

  • Magic is playing very well 9-15 from 3s

  • blubell

Ugly game after starters came back in…

  • heart

Cliff allowed Magic to get into rhythm in the first quarter. Now Hornets have to play catch up.

  • sws94

Lin arced it too high when a big man came to contest it. Kemba looks way off tonight. He’s not playing a good game.

  • Lin Win

Good shooting from Lin! Really hoped he hit that open 3

  • LinMad

I think starters defense is what’s making us lose. And the horrible playmaking decisions too that cause our turnovers mostly from Kemba and Batum.

  • Briiick

1 for 2, that is good enough for me.

  • NONONO

    Walker is the weakest link.

  • Linsanity2.0

    ok Kemba 1-6 really?

  • rookie75094

and it will continue in the 3rd…. the bench should be starting the third…. Clifford need to switch it up

  • cdblue10

Kemba is the culprit on defensive breakdown

  • Alain Gervais

Magic playing the game of their lives. Making shots that are contested like nothing. Random unknown people shooting lights out. Its just …….We seem unready and maybe thinking this would be easy

  • occupatio

dont worry, he can shoot it 15 more times to even out his average.

  • zxcvb

Defense is worse. Shots come and go, but he’s playing Harden-style defense.

  • IsabeliJane*17

As usual, Jeremy cleaning up the mess created by the starters and coaching mistakes.

  • Linsanity2.0

Magic shooting 53% from the field and 60% from 3.. ill be shocked if that continues in the 2nd half

  • Singapore BB Fan

poor game charlotte. kemba should sit ….let Lin stablise the play with batum, zeller, MW…kemba erratic play very unsettling

  • occupatio

what exactly do you mean with kemba’s defense? like specific observations.

  • JJ Hui

His head is full of air and dont know how to get a Win!

  • Briiick

Lamb’s defense is not very good either tonight.

  • IsabeliJane*17

I think Orlando do have good to decent shooters.

  • Linsanity2.0

PJ hairston is the Hornets leading scorer with 9 lol… thats how you know were in trouble

  • heart

KW came back in and Magic lead increased. It seems like he just wants to shoot for himself, not making plays for his teammates

  • LinJa

Starter defense was very bad. Magic got some hot shooting too. They need to run some plays with Lin. Kemba and batum on point is messy. Just driving to prod the defense and fail then reset. So one dimensional. Lin was playing way better defense shitting down the lane.

  • rookie75094

letting payton blowing past him 2 or three times…Lin has to come over to help…then his man hit open 3 pters

  • xeroid

Lin should have lay up instead of trying to help Hawes and Kaminski.

  • Alain Gervais

I didn’t relies the were in the 8th seed

  • Linsanity2.0

right he had 2 wide open layups but decided to pass it instead

  • occupatio

    was payton using screens?
i saw fournier go by kemba easily. didnt see it closely tho.

  • LinMad

Cliff needs to trust Lin’s play making abilities over Kemba’s and we’ll win more games if Kemba just shoots and plays D.

  • grover chang

All the teams starting to copy warriors. Even Memphis succumb and sat zac to move in that direction.

  • zxcvb

Yes. This. In fact, everyone is beating Kemba like nothing.

  • rookie75094

no screen that I can see

  • Mr Chuckles

yeah, Kemba’s defense is really bad. Going under screens on a mid-range shot. Getting faked out of his shoes.

  • Singapore BB Fan

coach mistake. cliff should act when magic are scoring early 3s

  • NONONO

Many Hornets fans are always proud of Kemba’s scores, and ignore how many points he allows the opponents to score.

  • LinJa

I think cliff trust Lin. But I think cliff is trying to balance things out between Kemba, Lin and batum running point.

  • CJSHYY

Magic played well & Hornets just couldn’t make the shots?

  • zxcvb

I like this “new normal” for Lin’s minutes. He’s the 6th Man again with Lamb’s minutes limited.

  • JJ Hui

D league level the most tonight! Hope CCliff can see it!

  • heart

I think Lin wants the bigs to get going. Yes, he should have shot the basket himself. I think he will in the 2nd half.

  • Alain Gervais

Hawes missed like 2 easy layups lin gave him.

  • zxcvb

True of most “star” PGs too. They also ice-out their teammates, hurting the overall offense.

  • occupatio

    i had asik flashbacks.

  • LinMad

I want Lamb in with Lin for this game. Lamb actually got some nice play making too. He’s just a liability on defense but the starters are too.

  • cdblue10

Most of their points were coming from initial defensive breakdown where from Kemba’s initial point of attack.

  • 1mtoldman

    funny

  • CJSHYY

Ya! Lin should take some shots by himself even Magic announcers said he’s surprised that Lin didn’t finish the shot but passed ….

  • gandychan

He took a shot while his team mates were sprinting to support. He missed and the team mates had to sprint back to defend his miss. Just a bad shot all around. Messes with the team.

  • zxcvb

Lamb can make a dish off a drive, but he’s a terrible PG/initiator. He just dribbles the ball at a stand-still and then makes a telegraphed pass.

  • JJ Hui

Plus KW poor play is the equation to a big L if coach still babysitting him the whole game!

  • Alain Gervais

yea. Like man up and dunk it. Your 7 Ft or close. Be a man

  • 1mtoldman

i think cliff maybe or someone is recognizing that lamb just can’t guard anyone; whatever he gives you in kinid of gangly offense he gives back on defense. hence his minutes shrinking. and lin picking up at least some of them

  • NONONO

Lin is calm and efficient. good hair too. Only one rush. not sure what was that about. miss read the clock?

  • LinMad

true, but he can be the receiver too kind of like Lin which makes it harder on the other team to guard them both.

  • Linsanity2.0

Lin should have 14 pts right now… two layups he passed off and a nice look at 3

  • LinJa

Lin needs to get his points when it is point blank layup instead of passing to a bunch of butterfingers

  • golfhacker

All our bigs are soft, except Hansbrough.

  • sws94

Yes, he does. But with that kind of deficit, Lin needs to shoot it himself. That’s OK, it’s the right idea it’s just the score is down and nobody else is really playing well.

  • Linsanity2.0

hes too unselfish sometimes.. trying to get other players going

  • Alain Gervais

they got 18 points off tov

  • rookie75094

I don’t know why but channing frye always rub me the wrong way…must be from his phoenix days.

  • LinMad

seriously, our bigs are perimeter shooters and they can hardly rebound or set up good screens. I just wonder what they were going for by picking up so many bigs who do the same thing (shoot from 3)

  • Linsanity2.0

Hornets have 11 turnovers at the half.. but only average 12 for the season..

  • LinJa

How bout getting the team going by scoring and gaining momentum. He himself started out really hot too!

  • heart

The main weak link of the 1st half was KW. Cliff needs to have the gut to pull KW when he’s a liability.

  • golfhacker

    Cliff is too chicken.

  • Linsanity2.0

Coach Cliff is starting to see the inconsistent ways of Kemba

He didnt bring him back until 3 minutes left in the 2nd.. he usually brings him back at the 7 minutes mark

  • rookie75094

    chicken little??

  • rookie75094

    true…baby steps…smh

  • NONONO

Lin’s teammates are still not used to his unselfishness and passing skills. I miss ED and Boozer.

  • LinMad

Let Lin be the point for this game, turnover problem solved.

  • Whitman Lam

Kemba is starting to develop some Har_en-itis, Slacking off on defense in order to save energy for offense.

  • JJ Hui

And the lead evaporated right away! Blind man can see it too!

  • blubell

    PJ injured. Jeremy starts

  • 1mtoldman

charlotte will not win many games with pj hairston leading them in scoring (as he is at halftime)

  • Singapore BB Fan

Orlando magic is playing the Charlotte’s game….moving the ball, sharing and playing less selfish…winning formula

  • NONONO

I hope Kemba sit for the rest of the game.

  • Alain Gervais

stop it. don’t miss LA. Maybe ED but he didn’t play much with Lin

  • bolero

    which Jeremy. lol

  • rookie75094

    Jlin start the 3rd

  • JJ Hui

Good Lin coming in to start the second half!

  • Rick Johnson

    Lin starting 3rd

  • LinMad

JL starting in 3rd qtr. WHAT THE

  • Whitman Lam

WOW, I did not see that one coming !!

  • Rick Johnson

Tired of Kemba getting them in a hole

  • blubell

There is only one Jeremy for me

  • NONONO

no, never miss LA. I miss someone he can trust on.

  • blubell

    PJ injured

  • pandaboy99

    ITS A PROCESS!

  • IsabeliJane*17

Doesn’t mean he is missing Lakers per se. I miss Ed as well, but because of his tandem with Jeremy, which I believe was “discovered” by Jeremy and Ed themselves.

  • Linsanity2.0

    LINNN

  • cdblue10

More on best thing to do,if they want to win.

  • NONONO

Lin starts 3q because Kemba is the worst one.

  • cdblue10

    Finally

  • JJ Hui

Magic announcer said Lin is very effective in the first half, but i know KW neutralized it completely!

  • The key is to find ways to stop ORL offense now

  • Linsanity2.0

Payton is abusing Kemba in the paint

  • NONONO

Someone please call MJ to sit Kemba.

  • Linsanity2.0

Payton got a busted up lip

  • Alain Gervais

    Put Lin on payton

  • JJ Hui

Magic announcer said KW is no match to ….. Lol!

  • then Kemba has to guard Fournier (taller?)

  • Singapore BB Fan

sit Lin now…put him back Q4

  • 1mtoldman

lin has been on everybody in this game; payton, fournier, oladipo, whoever.

  • Whitman Lam

Why are the Hornets only shooting for 3’s ???

  • Alain Gervais

    pj is not hurt

  • zxcvb

Kemba doing a great job defending Lin.

  • heart

Let Lin be PG, Cliff, if you want to win this game!

  • your son’s voltaire

batum sits with 4 fouls. good opportunity for the hornets to make a come back ahha

  • LinMad

    what?

  • GoJLin!

Batum 4 PF already, not good.

  • IsabeliJane*17

Either they are hurrying in catching up or Magic is blocking the Hornets cutting lanes well.

  • Hairston in for Batum after 4th foul

  • LinMad

    Hornets look horrible today

  • Alain Gervais

This is the worse I’ve seen this team play

  • cdblue10

This is still a winnable game,Walker needs to play the SG

  • blubell

We need Batum… Kemba not so much.

  • zxcvb

Walker needs to sit for the rest of the game.

  • LinMad

    Let Lin be PG…omg

  • Alain Gervais

    ohh boy

  • rookie75094

Clifford only option left is to let Jlin to play pg…if not the game is lost

  • occupatio

walker needs to play the cheerleader on the sidelines

  • Whitman Lam

Stop settling for 3’s. Gotta attack the rim and draw some FT’s. Hornets only taken 4 FTs so far.

  • cdblue10

Better plan if Clifford realized it

  • Alain Gervais

So it turns out Pj was not hurt but benched for Lin

  • 1mtoldman

yeah i dont get why they dont do dat. . walker gets his minutes lin gets his minutes; walker is shooting much better this year. (tho not this game)

  • LinMad

    benched for batum

  • your son’s voltaire

    haha

  • blubell

Yes, he is good at that.

  • your son’s voltaire

that was the fastest recover ever!

  • sws94

But he played well first half.

  • 1mtoldman

agree 2 many 3’s. but lins missed 3’s have been for the most part forced; hes been given the ball with limited time and nothing else to do.

  • IsabeliJane*17

    I vote Chewbacca!!!!!

  • zxcvb

I think it was just a minor injury.

  • Mr Chuckles

Too much time off. Rust settled in.

  • 1mtoldman

lead team in scoring at the half.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

When Kemba, Batum, Marvin Williams and Cody are all having an off night, the Hornets are cooked.

  • Alain Gervais

    yep

  • NONONO

    URGLY

  • JJ Hui

Yeap, he didnt see Lin’s side when he got the ball, what a cancer in the team! He is afraid of Lin getting the spot light! But the Magic annoucer already declared KW is no match to Peyton!
This game is going to lose as long as KW is in!

  • LinMad

refs bring the game back for us!

  • cdblue10

    Let’s go ref

  • Whitman Lam

Hornets not playing D and settling for too many jumpers on the other end. I’m done with this game, GOODNIGHT!

  • heart

Cliff still let KW be PG????

  • blubell

    Pj!!!

  • LinMad

    good ball movement

  • your son’s voltaire

    PJ is better than Batum!!

  • Lin assist to Hairston 3!!

  • blubell

    Lets make a run!

  • NONONO

Cliff knows what Lin can do the best as PG and he refuses to let Lin handle the ball.

  • zxcvb

Kemba is killing the team. Clifford needs to bench him ASAP.

  • Pete Roces

    Hairstonity in the making!

  • blubell

    Iso kemba

  • LinMad

Lin is the glue to this team.

  • rookie75094

lamb in for lin…game is lost?

  • zxcvb

Game over. Kemba ruined Lin’s 3Q minutes and now Lin is out to rest.

  • rookie75094

    yup…hornets are done

  • JJ Hui

KW is in so hard to get a run, he is chucking!

  • blubell

    Mr. 4th coming up

  • LinMad

these turnovers are killing us. Bunch of lazy passes

  • cdblue10

I’m tired of seeing Kemba dribbling the ball and shooting as well

  • zxcvb

Feel bad Lin had to stand around and watch Kemba crap the bed.

  • tom

Did Lin touch the ball since he took that 3pt shot?

  • zxcvb

Once. Maybe twice, 30 ft the hoop.

  • rookie75094

    maybe once

  • golfhacker

Lin had 1 shot in the 3rd qtr. Because Kemba was playing PG.

  • occupatio

this kemba/lamb lineup isn’t going to get it done but thats what cliff put on the floor.

this has the be the worst lineup cliff could put out there.

  • NONONO

If they lost 3 consecutive games, would Cliff let Lin play PG for 25 mins / game?

  • heart

Get KW off the floor and let Lin be PG. KW is playing full 1st quarter and almost 3/4 of 2nd quarter already???? What’s going on w/Cliff’s decision making??? Everyone can see that Payton owns KW on the floor!

  • JJ Hui

May be there is a chance to win if KW sit the whole 4th quarter and Lin PG the whole 4th quarter!

  • tom

great ball movement clifford real impressed smh
    Kemba tries way too hard

  • blubell

Once to assist PJ on that 3

  • LinMad

    no

  • spiderman

    Dont underestimate good cheerleading

  • your son’s voltaire

if the 2nd unit are the bench force one, then kemba is the buzz kill

  • Briiick

Cliff is padding KW into the All Stud.

  • tom

no chance CLifford loves kembas ball hogging too much

  • Alain Gervais

Lamb really cant do much without Lin and Kemba is bad right now. This stretch will be scary

  • LinJa

Lin is playing a lot of min. Team is losing.

  • LinMad

Cliff can’t handle the answer (Jeremy Lin).

  • 1mtoldman

    walker/batum 4 of 17 with 6 turnovers

  • cdblue10

    All shots are falling

  • LinMad

Batum throwing a hissy fit cause he got 4 fouls and had to sit?

  • zxcvb

First time all season — but it’s on Kemba. Playing horrible on both ends.

  • james brown

are we watching the game…there’s no chance KW could pass to lin. theres no palys so far..lets be real, Lin is not shooting but passing only and when in good position wasn’t able to connect. they are bad right now for no one is hot in the 3rd quarter..let see what happen and not blame anybody yet..LOL!

    Magic is shooting well tonite.

  • your son’s voltaire

    Lin checking back in

  • LinMad

Shot are falling but we need to step up our D.

  • Alain Gervais

    Lin only 1 minute rest

  • blubell

    Looks like Kobe’s stat lol

  • NONONO

Kemba 2/10 and 3 TOs? When did Lin ever have this performance? Lin’s TOs usually comes with high scores and win.

  • cdblue10

    What the fck

  • LinMad

What’s with our defense? Lamb+Hawes+Walker = no defense

  • Joe what do you know

Kemba 3-11 for 9pt?… The guy wanna be Kobe?

  • zxcvb

Kemba is a big fat zero. Only cares about his own volume stats and loses the game.

  • DX

Unfortunately, over half PT with Kemba.

  • John Focker

Problem is Kemba running the point too much.

  • Singapore BB Fan

magic shooting is contagious….cliff must abort it as early as possible and not it gets too hot

  • NONONO

the biggest liability of the team.

  • cdblue10

    Nice Lin

  • Singapore BB Fan

    he has idea

  • Linsanity2.0

    LIN!!!!!!!!!!

  • blubell

    Freebies for JLin

  • LinMad

    WOW LIN, WOW

  • Alain Gervais

    Lin is fast

  • LinMad

4 seconds and he got to the rim.

  • zxcvb

Nice play by Lin. Refs didn’t give him the earlier call, so he was “owed” a makeup call.

  • John Focker

Not unlike Kobe, Kemba wants to be like Mike. Unlike Kobe, Kemba neither has the talent nor the athleticism.

  • zxcvb

    With 0.8 to spare.

  • blubell

    Missed 1…

  • zxcvb

Boo…missed FT. Come on, Jeremy. Take your time.

  • tom

Lin needs to practice freethrow horrible

  • Linsanity2.0

AHH man gotta make that 1 Lin

  • ty

with Batum out, time for Lin to take all his shots. Just shoot, baby!

  • zxcvb

All mental. Needs to relax and take his time.

  • LinMad

DRIVE IN, FREE BUCKETS ALL DAY LIN.

  • ty

he needs to stop coaching and just make the basket

  • sws94

Sometimes players miss them, you know?

  • Whitman Lam

Needs to stop blaming himself for the team losing …. It was the starters.

  • zxcvb

All right. Hopefully Kemba will sit for a while and Lin can TRY to make a run here.

  • Linsanity2.0

    seriously

  • Joe what do you know

Not watching the game. Batum hurt?

  • LinMad

    u need to chill.

  • occupatio

whats funny is that kemba has 9 assists. ‘hes a really good facilitator!’ people will say.

  • Singapore BB Fan

0.8 sec on the clock if JLin scored the 2nd FT

  • Linsanity2.0

    LINSANITY 4th quarter LETS GOOO!!!

  • sws94

Foul trouble. Not playing well at all though.

  • Linsanity2.0

yeah right all his passes were easy open passes

  • cdblue10

Need to make shots and defend

  • sws94

How? so weird that he does.

  • LinMad

lol i did not even notice that. It doesn’t seem that he had a good assist game today either.

  • JJ Hui

    He is a too short!

  • noob

With no Batum on the floor if Lin isn’t stepping up offensively and taking shots it is his own fault

  • zxcvb

I call those “Kobe assists.” Hogging it so much that someone eventually scores after you touch it.

  • GoJLin!

So far 78%, not bad, yes, could be better! Go JLIN Go!

  • LinMad

How does Batum just quit on his team like that after having a bad game? I think he made that excuse up.

  • NONONO

naaa. LINSANITY needs dependable teammates to shot, set screens, defend and work together

  • Joe what do you know

    I see… One of those nights huh…

  • blubell

    Jeremy the PG!

  • noob

    why what’s his status?

  • Adnan Ahsan

Its f’ing crazy. Lin only takes the last second shots. 1st quarter, 2nd and 3rd.

  • LinMad

    he doesn’t feel well

  • Alain Gervais

they are making every shot they put up.

  • Alain Gervais

No name people having games of their lives

  • your son’s voltaire

Stephanie made a rare good point though lol

  • LinMad

Where is the defense though, Either Magic is shooting contested shots and making them or we just suck at D.

  • tom

    hes missing too many FTs
78% isnt very good for a guard, you know?

  • LinJa

    Game over

  • Linsanity2.0

    what was it

  • Pete Roces

count this as a loss, Lin can’t get his rythm.

  • Alain Gervais

    They are making ridiculous shots.

  • tom

Gotta make those open 3’s(ones in 3q)

  • gandychan

Too much arc on the shot again

  • sws94

No Hornets win here. This team is just too hot from the perimeter and Hornets can’t get on a run just to even tie the game.

  • occupatio

are you attention starved? ok ill bite. what did she say?

  • noob

no excuses he needs to hit that

  • your son’s voltaire

she said it’s difficult to penetrate when the defense is already set

  • NONONO

    no D, no win.

  • sws94

So, Lin needs to get the ball run it up and get into early offense.

  • zxcvb

Still time if Lin finds his rhythm…3Q really froze him out.

  • NONONO

Lin needs to take open shots

  • cdblue10

Games will becoming tighter every schedule,

  • zxcvb

Threw away the last game thanks to Kemba and Nic.

  • LinMad

94 pts at the start of 4th, that’s just a TO and defense problem. Not a scoring problem.

  • zxcvb

    Lamb heating up…nice.

  • blubell

    Jeremys

  • zxcvb

    Lin takes the charge! Nice.

  • ouch, did Lin get elbowed on the face?

  • blubell

    Timex?

  • your son’s voltaire

good defense but taking too many charges is going to hurt him in the long run. even big guys get injured from taking charges

  • LinMad

    i dont get it

  • your son’s voltaire

    Lin keeps getting smashed

  • blubell

    Hustle

  • cdblue10

    Iron Lin

  • zxcvb

Oladipo looks more shaken up than Lin.

  • blubell

    Me too

  • Oladipo ran to Lin’s face and went down!

    Shao-Lin!!

  • NONONO

Lin’s summer intense workout plays off.

  • zxcvb

    Hairston shooting too much.

  • Lin is really doing a great job on neutralizing Oladipo

  • blubell

    Shots not falling…

  • zxcvb

Lin lost his touch in the 3rd. Dumb Kemba.

  • cdblue10

    Game over

  • Linsanity2.0

    Game over

  • Lin Win

    sigh 3/9 Lin

  • zxcvb

Game over. Just statpad, Jeremy. Like Kemba did all game.

  • zxcvb

Started 3-4 and then Kemba Ball happened. Freeze out. No rhythm.

  • Alain Gervais

    They were just better.

  • Linsanity2.0

damn Jeremy I thought you were going to take over this 4th quarter

  • tom

    SHots way off

  • Lin Win

    Wide open on many occasion.

  • LinMad

Lin will be out soon cause its garbage time.

  • tom

Lin come on just 2 more

  • Joe what do you know

Hoping Lin can utilise this opportunity and turn things around….

  • gandychan

The shot just has too much arc. No precision on the shot. I am so disappoint.

  • Alain Gervais

Your asking for too much. We make a shot they make a three

  • blubell

Are they clearing out the bench already?

  • zxcvb

Shots didn’t fall and even if they did, no one else is hitting. *shrug*

  • DaBoss

Timex slogan – Takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin’!

  • occupatio

lin’s % has dived. he is now 3 for 9 this game.
    passed up layups.

  • Alain Gervais

    Yea game is over.

  • heart

NB is not coming back. He does not feel well according to Magic commentator.

  • Lin Win

    Magic 57% FG AND 3FG%
    Game over!

  • zxcvb

    Passed up 1 good layup.

  • LinMad

no way we can bring this game back. We were way behind, no defense, Magic making pretty much all their shots.

  • Lin is expending a lot of energy on defense.
Really need some good screen to get open & close shots.

Where’s Hansbrough when you need him on the floor?

  • Rzo Vlade

stop listening to doc schepler……shooting mechanics for jlin is wrong

  • Alain Gervais

    They had a rediclus game.

  • sws94

Lin starting the 3rd just threw him off. Oh well. Started off great. Played OK in the 2nd half, just not hitting any shots or getting any space to drive.

  • NONONO

    no screen at all

  • zxcvb

Kemba not passing it threw him off.

  • wu kong

    sigh kemba 4-12

  • noob

Lin letting this opportunity slip through his hands

  • zxcvb

He proved himself the past 4 games.

  • occupatio

lin cant do much against this defense if his jumper isnt falling.

  • LinMad

    he’s no superman

  • zxcvb

    Benches already cleared.

  • Alain Gervais

I cant even be mad . Sometime the other team is just better. today was one of those days. Magic made everything they put up

  • Linsanity2.0

Who do the Hornets play tomorrow

  • NONONO

no hot hands in the entire team?

  • LinMad

upsetting game today. Wish starters go out in the 1st qtr with a lead or at least keep it close.

  • Clifford waved the white flag. ORL is too good & can’t make shots tonight.
    Raptors game is tomorrow

  • zxcvb

    1) Kemba ruined the game on both ends.
    2) Lin couldn’t re-find his rhythm to come back.
    3) Magic were just hot from deep (esp .Frye).

  • Alain Gervais

Thats not true. the momentum wasn’t there. orlando had it all game. Bench couldn’t get us the momentum back

  • LinMad

    poor defense, too many turnovers

  • blubell

    Tough back to back

  • zxcvb

Mostly thanks to Kemba. Also, Hawes was even softer than usual.

  • occupatio

they were hitting everything but i also credit skiles. he’s coached a good team on both ends of the floor.

  • NONONO

put hans and Daniels play with Lin. Hans good at screen and PnR, Daniels for 3

  • Clifford should play Lin like Scott Skiles plays Oladipo in the 2nd unit.

Oladipo is the PG and gets multiple screens in one possession.
Penetrate and create for multiple shooters

  • LinJa

This game was probably one of the hardest to watc. Lin played lots of min, started really hot, the the whole team was flat.

  • james brown

Poor D of entire team..no off rebounds…Magic hot today!

  • LinMad

Cliff has a lot to learn from this lost.

  • tom

    Lin’s shots are still off
He needs make at least half of those wide open ones

  • LinJa

    Or the one before too

  • DX

Obvious, Lin shouldn’t change hair back.

  • zxcvb

He started out great…and Kemba got greedy. Froze him out. Lin didn’t recover, not that it would have mattered. It would have been a 10-15pt loss or something at best.

  • zxcvb

At least there’s another game tomorrow and STAR WARS comes out in the US!

  • JJ Hui

The problem is always the same, dig a hole first and then play catch up! What kind of teaching and motto is this?

  • sws94

Marv doesn’t deserve to be in there garbage time.

  • yes, the problem is he’s too slow.
He wants last season’s Kemba ISOs but also the modern team-ball movement.

Plus he wants Lin/Hawes/Lamb to be playmakers for 2nd unit. No consistency and too many cooks in the kitchen to have rhythm

  • your son’s voltaire

kemba allowed Payton to break the defense down all game which opened it up for the Magics. it was already over from that point

  • zxcvb

Hard to make when you don’t touch it for an hour. Even Curry goes 3-9, 4-13.

And then he goes 5-7 after that. You need to keep getting touches.

  • Briiick

That’s why I say Cliff has no offense. He prefers his players outgrow the opponents, that is about it.

  • Joe what do you know

Shall we say the Hornets were badly “Fryed” today?

  • LinJa

Even on a bad night Kemba had 9 ast and 12pts and played less minutes than Lin. Lin should’ve played better.

  • sws94

I agree. Lin should play off of multiple screens, just like Oladipo. Lin played strong defense on Oladipo, he didn’t really penetrate and finish off of Lin.

  • sws94

    how many FTA for Kemba?

  • Dan Cohen

Lin didn’t play well tonight. Period. There is no excuse.. don’t want to hear it this and that because it can apply to other players too in other teams.

  • zxcvb

Kemba hogged the ball all night. Of course he “got stats.” Kobe-style.

  • LinMad

Things I don’t like about this team
    1. No strong big except Tyler
    2. Kemba/Batum aren’t great play makers
    3. We rely too much on Batum/Kemba to score that when they have a bad shooting night like this, it’s pretty much over.
    4. Starters trailing in 1st qtr when they should be setting the pace and example.
    5. We rely on bench to bring the game back in the 2nd qtr but will not happen 100% the time.
    6. Need better screens for Lin/Kemba, whoever is penetrating.
    7. Let Lin shoot more when Kemba/Batum is on the floor with him. Don’t just put him in the corner to play defense.

  • golfhacker

The game began with the starters giving up a big lead again. Eventually, it has to wear on the bench players.

  • sws94

He played very well first half. Cooled off in shooting 2nd half and there wasn’t any real support in the 2nd half.

  • zxcvb

He played great in the first half. And then was a non-factor in the 2nd after Kemba Ball.

  • LinMad

he played alright, great in first half

  • NONONO

I hope they keep Lin on the court and practice some PnRs with Cody

  • LinJa

What’s glaring is 9ast. Jlin should take that many shots too.

  • your son’s voltaire

    what are you, bragging?

  • LinMad

idk if he’s a real Lin fan. I always see him critiquing Lin negatively.

  • NONONO

it has be the tradition for Horents

  • IsabeliJane*17

Anyone who says Jeremy didn’t play well tonight, didn’t actually watch this game. Was a winnable game, until late 2nd quarter when KW came in.

  • DX

    FG% 43% to 57% ;3FG 37% vs 58%. My god, Magic 3FG% is higher than FG%.

  • your son’s voltaire

he’s pretty much saying “see, i told you Lin sucks”

  • james brown

if we keep on pointing fingers again, it won’t do the hornets and us a favor..hornets are so so tonite…no players are playing well, shot aren’t falling and evident no energy..as they say “together they rise together they fall!”

KW is not the only problem, everybody is the problem, zeller can’t rebound, hawes so soft, Lamb plays i don’t know but at least his shots were falling, Jlin can’t find his grove, a little bit off, batum is sick, tank is nowhere to be found, yet the silver lining is PJ is playing well.(LOL)

to add , Cliff so slow to react, time out management is so off always!

  • golfhacker

As long as Kemba is on the court, just not enough opportunies for that.

  • Briiick

Kemba, Harden stat pad to attract this type of fans.

  • LinMad

yep, when he didn’t suck. He played alright. 8 pts 4 assists is okay and Cliff threw him in 3rd qtr with a unit he probably hates playing with. Lin was playing a lot of defense today and wasn’t good at offense but he was the glue to the team in first half.

  • LinMad

    wait is Lin playing rn?

  • If you noticed, Lin played well in the 1st half .
And he did marvelous defensive job neutralizing Oladipo or Payton but he expended way too much energy on defense.

I’m glad JLin took up the challenge to be a shutdown defender but I wonder how much it would cost on his offensive game.
I hope Lin and his team would come up with a strategy post All-Star Break

He needs the offensive numbers to get good market value next season.

  • NONONO

    i wish.

  • LinMad

Payton killed us when Kemba was on him. It was like a green light to the basket. Fournier also killed us at the perimeter.

  • occupatio

maybe. but lin’s shots werent short, for the most park. they were missing by veering to the side or long. so im not convinced his defensive efforts is hurting his shot.

  • Payton is way too big for Kemba to guard *sigh*

  • heart

Allowing opponent to get comfortable in their offense is a sure way to lose game. Cliff didn’t change up defense tactic or sub out KW when Magic got too comfortable hitting 3s and layups w/o contest.

  • Guest

Magic shooting very well to night. Hornets will be better prepared next game they have home court.

  • IsabeliJane*17

I don’t know, maybe if another guard guarded (pun intended) Oladipo or Payton efficiently or even tried defending… he wouldn’t have exerted too much effort.

  • your son’s voltaire

yup. Kemba allowed Payton to break down the defense all game long. that made it so much easier for the Magics players to hit wide open jumpers

  • james brown

i watch the 3rd quarter , his defense was ok but his offense were not..4th Q, he’s trying but his shots weren’t there and seems he can’t execute the plays..except those practiced plays..

not bad , but not good to lift the team today…Jlin needs the 2 to 3 players to make a good team, but alone, he’s in deep trouble.

  • Briiick

His form has changed. It’s not likely to undershoot with the pushing mechanism.

  • occupatio

the truth is that kemba cannot guard anyone in that backcourt. not payton, not oladipo, not fournier.

so for kemba to be a net positive in the game, he has to be super stellar on offense. but he wasnt, yet cliff kept playing him.

cliff sure is stupid. he talks so much about ‘matchups’ but kemba is untouchable.

  • LinJa

Ugly game since the starters played lol

  • cdblue10

Good game by Orlando, nothing can Hornets do in this game.

  • I’m thinking his shooting form change has been more consistent lately but fatigue doesn’t really help

Also, today could be a little off

  • LinMad

well if every game it all comes down to how Lin will lead the bench from a deficit, I don’t think that’s fair. Starters need to stop getting punched int he face in the 1st qtr and they need to be punching faces. Right now we have a weak right hook and a strong left hook. We need both to be strong hooks to win games.

  • LinJa

Batum out due to illness- tantrum

  • the other guard is a bit too small for sure :]

  • cdblue10

    He has Kembinitis

  • IsabeliJane*17

When everyone else is practically cold, that’s trouble.

  • Briiick

Losing some games is healthy for Hornets because it reduces stat padding and stud fabricating. Cliff also feels the pressure to install correct BB, which means bigger role and more PT for Lin. The current system is for the 1st unit to pad stats of KW and batum, supported by Lin’s superior defense and his hole filling 2nd unit.

  • LinMad

the only thing Lin should have done today was penetrate consistently and getting the foul calls. But he sacrifice his body too much on defense that I dont know if he can take hits on the other side too. It’s his bread and butter to penetrate but I don’t believe he will do it if he puts too much effort on D.

  • IsabeliJane*17

    Only ONE guard guards.

  • sws94

If Lin goes 4-13, that’s his shot total for the night. I keep saying, Lin doesn’t take that many shots. Unless he’s going to the line a lot, he’s got to be at 50 percent or better and going to the line a few times to score in the teens.

  • JJ Hui

C Cliff chose to fall off the cliff with KW! lol,

  • LinMad

it looked that way when Lin was put in 3rd qtr. It surprised me.

  • heart

If Cliff didn’t play KW as PG for the entire 1st and 2nd quarters, Hornets might have had a chance to disrupt Magic rhythm and get going when Lin and the bench got the lead down to 5. Cliff had to bring KW back and let him be PG for another 3min in 3Q.

  • sws94

He’s 3rd facilitation option, 4th or 5th scoring option in that unit. I don’t think he hates it, it’s the closing unit. Team needed Al tonight.

  • LinMad

Reminds of Kobe and his excuses when he goes 1 for 20

  • james brown

Cliff is patient i guess in terms of his player that’s why maybe he’s slow on his on court reactions..Good for player like JLIn whose aggressiveness sometimes caused him problem, but bad for the team because hornets need their coach to signal when to go and when to standby..coach seems a bit tentative also with his players.

todays game showed that all hornets player has no will to win..ALL, because they played POORLY and no energy. so the Loss is on the team tonite!

  • sws94

Vucevic (sp?) and guys knocking down perimeter shots killed us too.

  • occupatio

my favorite lineup cliff put out there tonight was the kemba/lamb backcourt. id like to see him do that again, it will be very entertaining.

  • cdblue10

The bigs of Orlando we’re shooting well,Hornets scores 2 but Magic will come back for 5 or 6

  • LinMad

you mean the Kemba/Lamb/Hawes no defense all offense trading buckets and still losing to Magic lineup?

  • heart

Yep. That too. Magic got comfortable in their offense scheme and Cliff didn’t adjust, nada…

  • LinJa

    Magic was too hot!

  • LinJa

He was making his jump shots. He started to shoot. He was not balanced in attacking. He passed too much also.

  • LinMad

94 points near the start of 4th quarter. We don’t allow this to happen that often this season. Defense was not there tonight. TOs were also an issue cause of lazy passes. I’d rather have Lin make turnovers from aggressive playmaking than getting TOs from lazy passes.

  • LinJa

Jeremy didn’t play well enough. I expected more from Lin. Especially with the minutes he got.

  • cdblue10

I can’t understand why Cliff always want Lin to stand in the corner when he’s playing with Kemba…he needs to cut that scheme…that’s just crap.

  • LinMad

so Lin can focus on defense, something we really needed this game. But in other games where we don’t need defense, Lin should be shooting.

  • Briiick

He did that to get the contract extension.

  • InfiniteWisdom

welp, that was brutal… skiles’ defense was the story tonight. tough, tough perimeter pressure and talented, athletic bigs in the paint… the hornets had nothing for them tonight. i always say this team is too much of a jump shooting team. tonight that hurt them. they couldnt miss and we couldnt match. the only chance was to grind. nobody except kemba and lin try to attack. batum being sick really hurt. kemba was way too small to guard any of their guards.

  • james brown

thats why, when JLIn and KW are playing, Cliff should let Lin be the PG and KW the SG because it will surely give KW all the chance to get points because jlin will pass the ball to him and it will let kw rest in the game while playing. the vice versa , it will not be the same, KW being the PG will hog the ball still and play SG to score. (thats who kW really is and changes will be hard for him right now)

  • occupatio

the problem isnt actually with lin in the corner. the problem is that kemba keeps the ball on his side and doesnt rotate it to the top so that lin can leave the corner to receive a pass or dribble hand off from the player at the top.

in other words, the problem is kemba not running a 5-person offense. he does his little two man game or reverts to one-man hero ball.

  • james brown

but what was good today was JLIN pT tonites game, one small step for cliff, next move maybe JLIN as the PG role

  • InfiniteWisdom

bingo. kemba moves the ball, just never to the other side where lin is…

  • sws94

yeah, sticks to the strong side.

  • cdblue10

That’s what I meant the players position were off because of that design play and they run that over and over again

  • sport

Why haven’t the coach spoke up about this then? Or why hasn’t Lin spoke up about this?

  • james brown

lost today..move on to the next game and learn from it HOrnets!

  • IsabeliJane*17

    1. He played well enough that he got the game close to 5 points… until the collapse late of 2nd quarter and the rest of 2nd half.
    2. Rest of the Hornets are either playing upright cold or lukewarm.

  • cdblue10

I’m pretty sure those positions are by design plays ,as I said Cliff needs to abandon that.

  • occupatio

    nice observations.

also, the magic were trapping all the side PnR action. cliff has never figured out what to do about that except just not run side PnR at all. situation hasnt changed since the miami and atlanta games at the start of season.

  • sport

Lin’s weakness which he said so himself is that he’s a 5 on 5 player not a 1 on 5 player. If Lin can improve his iso skills it’d really help his game against selfish teammates, as well as step up when teammates’ shots aren’t falling. A star’s job is to make shots when other teammates are doing horribly.

  • Briiick

Cliff needs to play Lin correctly, not just use him for defense and deco. He really needs to provide some screens and sets for him.

  • LinMad

ya and Lin overhelping on defense is a designed play by Cliff too. When Lin gets burned from leaving his guy, that’s when Cliff says no more of that. I really don’t know why some Lin fans get mad at Lin for that. You really think Cliff will allow that every game?

  • takemeback2reaganyears

I am a big Lin supporter but tonight I am very disappointed.

First, Lin needs to realize NBA is not 9 to 5 job like the rest of us have. Staying up late will hurt his focus and shooting. Tonight was a great opportunity but he blew it. If this continues and Cliff gets desperate, Lin will lose his minutes to Roberts, not Kemba not Lamb but only himself.

Now AJ Rafael, if he’s a friend and wanted to hangout party with Lin, wait till summer man. If you’re in town AJ, have dinner with Lin and stay low profile. Don’t bring bunch of friends taking selfie to help reviving your dead youtube music career. Let Lin focus on his career like you should do yours. Real Lin fans wouldn’t give a crap about your hair AJ. And now I know where the heck real a man like Lin got the idea of 2 ugly earrings on himself. Yes they are …..ugly. Lin needs to stay focus or he has to accept the option to remain with the Hornets as 3rd string backup next season.

NBA is very serious business, you can find yourself no team next.

I am………..sssed and no excuses tonight.

  • occupatio

you should go to bed now. its late.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    Is that all you had?

  • LinMad

Stating that you’re a big Lin supporter in your first sentence has “I’m a big Lin hater/troll” written all over it.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Ok I am a Lin hater.

  • InfiniteWisdom

batum playing well wouldve made a big difference… less kembaball would’ve made a big difference…. we need more cuts to the basket and other ways to get closer shots. live by the 3 die by the 3… tonight they lived we died….

  • LinMad

    knew it

  • kauaiblue

    How did he do??

  • LinMad

Why do you have BS as your profile picture?

  • CJSHYY

Lin didn’t have good shooting day but so did his teammates. But to my surprised, Magic played good ball movement like Lin’s team ball than Hornets? No wonder Hornets couldn’t win… Don’t worry, Cliff will figure it out & back to more Lin’s team ball again.

  • LinMad

played well first half, more of a defense player 2nd half and missed some buckets wasn’t really offensive threat.

  • leeda harun

So hornets lost again. I guess if hornets lucky enough maybe they will get 8th spot.

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Yeah, I saw this guy profile on tweeter..this AJ guy, this is where Jeremy got the idea of 2 earrings.

I was also wondering why Lin is hanging out with this guy instead of spending time working on his 3 point shots.

I was also annoyed when I read somewhere that Lin stays up very late to play video game…he need to rest and get a good 7 hours of sleep to feel good and right.

  • InfiniteWisdom

irony. look at my name, look at my pic. lest we lin fans forget.

  • LinMad

We allowed Magic to shoot 50%+ from 3pt line and inside the paint. So it wasn’t really our own shooting that killed us. It was our defense. They all shot like Curry today and made easy layups and we allowed it.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

His body language tells all. He stopped short passing or instead of finishing.

  • leeda harun

maybe you guys should tweet to AJ personally about this

  • occupatio

i worry you wont get enough sleep and will lose focus.

  • your son’s voltaire

i’m a big fan and supporter of his mohawk but i have to say, it is killing his shooting percentage

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    Thank you.

  • occupatio

cliff’s offense is only a small step above mchale’s.
it is still basically ‘trust your cornerstones’

  • takemeback2reaganyears

I am 100% and more awake now to see what’s wrong. Losing was not the problem, Lin was missing in action was.

  • leeda harun

another 6 games….to the 30th games…will there be any changes in the lineup?

  • CJSHYY

Well, the same story just repeat again & again. But I’m not worry bc Hornets & Cliff can’t afford more loss…. they will back to his team ball again.

  • CJSHYY

Heat won vs Nets. Pacers won too.

  • blubell

I see you’re frustrated but it seems unfair and unnecessary to attack someone you don’t know and who has nothing to do with Jeremy’s NBA career. Lets just move on to the next game.

  • occupatio

cliff only put the ball in lin’s hands in the second half when the game had already gotten away from them.

in the first half, it was clear that lin running the offense in the 2Q was the only thing that was working smoothly. but he then puts in kemba early at the 5min mark in 2Q and momentum was soon lost despite the two 3P that went in.

  • leeda harun

    too relaxing….3 days of rest…smh

  • blubell
  • Briiick

LOL, think they are the same in offense or none of it.

  • blubell
  • InfiniteWisdom

kembaball…. even if he passes it off, it seems like it does nothing…. even though he gets assists, they’re hardly at the rim. even i could get assists passing it to batum coming off a curl….

  • CJSHYY

I know I heard Magic announcer said he was surprised Lin didn’t finish the rim but instead passed to Hawes for missing the shot? smh! Anyway, just move on…

  • occupatio

when the starters stink it up, he sticks with them till death. when the bench is doing well, he interrupts it with his starters.

  • JJ Hui

Coach is treating Lin like a machine, expect him to defend well and expect him to play well, but his other pets only play offense and no need to worry so much on defend! If coach’s pets spend all the energy on defend, I wonder how many baskets they will make!!!

  • blubell
  • occupatio

lin had already beaten the interior defender, who was behind him at that pt. smh.

  • InfiniteWisdom

lin needs more picks. when al was starting, i feel him and cody were starting to get some chemistry… with hawes, he’s so unathletic, cant finish at the rim…

  • DX

That’s my question too. Only 2 answers I thought, 1 is Lin’s back pain. 2 is saving energy for tomorrow’s game.

  • Briiick

    A steep cliff.

  • Briiick

I am glad Cliff is cornered. He’s earned it himself.

  • InfiniteWisdom

yep. this will be the ruination of the team. even if the bench gets you out of a deficit and gets the lead, cliff doesnt have the ballz to keep kemba on the bench. sure kemba is playing well, but his style doesnt lead to wins. it hasnt before and it never will.

  • A guest

    ? What?

  • DX

Not 100% agree, but you made some points. Lin played great at 1Q, but 2Q is lost. As a backup, you need to be ready always, not like starters have more PT to correct. If Lin keep play like 1Q, then totally will be Linsanity mode.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

He might be a good person and friend with Lin but this is a bad intention. No NBA star allowed their friends doing that to them. Using me for publicity.

  • Briiick

    It’s not a winnable fight.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Partayyyyyyyyyyy. Glad someone sees it too.

  • sws94

Funny thing is Lamb scored ok but he didn’t really play well. Some guys have good stats that played so-so. Lin played better than he stats, didn’t look to score enough early and just wasn’t in the right position to later or missed on his jumpers.

  • leeda harun

cliff already got the extension so he is safe for now. I am worry about lin more.He needs to balance offensive + defensive game for his next FA

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    Lack of energy, simple.

  • sws94

Just needs to finish it and get the big guys going on other plays. Here’s where I think he differs from Linsanity Lin who looked to finish those. This version looks to get guys going more than finish his own.

  • sws94

He’s not losing his minutes to Roberts. he had one turnover and looked ball secure against tough defenses. He played good defense. Just addressing the basketball part of your statement.

  • IsabeliJane*17

Asking him to work on his ISO is like asking a polar bear to swim on hot lava… and I think he answered that question many times already.

  • sws94

I feel he never got into a rhythm 2nd half. For some reason, he played better when PJ came in and Batum went out.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

    He’s tired.

  • sws94

Their bench matched ours. Oladipo does similar stuff to Lin, maybe looks for his shot more and plays above the rim more. But their guys hit perimeter shots.

  • sws94

    ??? I think he wasn’t really prepared to start the 3rd Q.

  • LinJa

Lin’s skillset has improved on both ends of the floor. He still needs to make better decisions imho. I think, THIS is the key for Lin to get to the next level. Regardless of his PT and team rotation. I see Lin with hornets with various combination and Lin can be successful as both SG and PG. Lin is making poor choices at times. When he is on instinct mode he is normal playing better.

  • IsabeliJane*17

Ugh. Why in the world is AJ Raphael being brought up in the Hornets loss tonight? Not defending AJ or something.

  • LinJa

    Looking too deep I think

  • blubell

    LOL. Exactly.

  • IsabeliJane*17

Unless I miss the memo that AJ is playing for Magic.

  • wu kong

b/c some people are in need of a good counselor

  • DX

But on the other side, if Lin played very hard, attack the rim and make fouls. The team may back to 10 points behind. Then Cliff will change him off, this game still will lose.

  • DX

Yes, but I would like to see Lin get some stats at least.

  • blubell
  • blubell
  • Kianainhi

Do you know the friendship between Lin & AJ was when Lin was with GSW? AJ is in Lin’s close circle of friends which means AJ was friends with Lin throughout his highs & lows. His time with AJ and his friends were “free time” so he can do what he wants to do. Also, what does Lin wearing earings have anything to do with his performance? Most NBA players wear them.
Regarding playing video games till sunrise…I would estimate that bb games finish around 10pm, then he goes out to eat and adrenaline is still pumping when he goes home. Probably means he can’t fall asleep immediately.

  • blubell
  • Lin Win

Sigh team allowed Magic to shoot 56%

  • Lin Win

Piss poor performance for everyone but Jeremy Lamb and Cody.
Allowing magic to shoot 56% and 58% from 3!

What did they do in practise for the past few days?
Now we have back to back games with the Raptors next which are very good!

Lin looked good at shooting before the half but after it just went back to poor shooting mode. Missing wide open shots and giving up easy layups for passes only to let someone brick that shot.

Nic with his usual 3TOs yet not being labeled as turnover machine. I’m not even going to talk about Kemba!

  • Briiick

Did you watch Lamb’s defense ?

  • Lin Win

I watched the whole team’s defense and everyone was piss poor.

  • Singapore BB Fan

Well, you win some you lose some…as what someone pointed out..night like this it is better to let go and come back stronger for another fight…no point beating a dead horse…

  • bolero

AJ was guarding Lin to much for a selfie…And someone was pissed because Lin was having a poor shooting night.

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

Kemba Walker is a jealous guard. He feels threatened by the Asian Beatle. That’s why he freezes him out. Whenever Lin gets a rebound or a steal, Kemba immediately asks for the ball. But Kemba would not pass to Lin if his life depended on it. Cliff obviously sees this but the FO supports this pathetic 4 vs. 5 Kemball. Don’t expect this to change. This is not a “process.” As we saw in the preseason, the Hornets could play the right way whenever they want to. They just don’t. The only positive contribution that Lin can make when Kemba is on the court with him is on defense. He is asked to do the dirty work. He cannot provide offense if he doesn’t touch the ball. Every game is played out the same way, a monotonous dissappointment. That’s why it was a mistake to join Kemba’s Hornets.

  • JoeTeam

psalm, your Suns are leading GSW pretty good night so far for ya 🙂

  • Acbc

Ask Khuang and he can relate. After a performance, there is the cool down, the stretches, ice bath the interviews. By the time they get home or in their hotel, they’re still wound up. Guys that are cerebral like Lin tend to fester about losses more than grunts. They are constantly trying to replay the game in their minds and it takes a long time to shut that down. Sometimes the only thing that helps is to actually stop the active mind by doing something mindless. Video games happens to do that well.

What annoys me most is that fans pretend to know what’s best for Lin. He had 3 days off so he played some video games and had some RNR. There’s no one that works harder than Lin but that is not good enough. People want him to work 24/7, no that’s not even enough. He should work on his game in his sleep as well.

  • Alain Gervais

    spacing

  • grover chang

It’s the hair. Lin plays better with the fifth element hair. I’m only half joking. A good hair day makes the day better.

  • bolero

you know some fans like Lin to do well so they can brag about it. and when Lin is not performing as expected, it’s the end of the world for them…

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Look at his eyes, those are tired eyes.

  • Acbc

We laugh a lot about tiger moms but Lin has the most tiger fans. You know what, I get it as well. We all want Lin to do well but let’s never forget that he’s not set up to succeed like others. It’s not like Lin would ever read our stuff anyways so what’s the point of trying to “teach” Lin to be better like a tiger mom would.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Lin is an adult and should be responsible for his own action. Staying up late night is bad for for NBA level. It’s not wise not to see big picture. Its a waste to patry night before game.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Look at all photos below, lin face looked all tired.

  • NONONO

No fun at all to watch Lin and Kemba in the same lineups and Kemba plays PG or always asks for the ball (Every player knows Lin is too nice to refuse to pass ball if you are open and ask for it). 1+1 < 2.

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

Lin played fine. If one more 3 dropped he’d have 11/4, 50% shooting and good defense. What can we expect him to do if he can’t touch the ball? When Kemba finally sits he has to feed Hawes and a rookie big who like to chuck 3s and tend to make TOs. Where are all the PnRs that Cliff promised? Every minute that Hairston or Hawes gets instead of Lin, Lamb or Hanbrough is a wasted minute. But this team puts higher priority on Kemba and a Batum’s stats than winning.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

I have defended lin all the time but lin could not keep up with kemba tonight. Lin was tired.

  • NONONO

Of cause Lin cannot play well with him. He never passes the ball to Lin!

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Lin might like aj a lot, but aj does not lok out for lin as a friend. A good friend wouldn’t use friend celebrity for his personal gain. They keep it private.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Saying the true of how you feel is not pretending. Pretending would be endless of excuses.

  • NONONO

Kemba is more like small version of Harden – shot a lot with horrible defense. I thought Harden played good defense last year.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Yes he did, but lin either pass it again or missed open shot

  • NONONO

Lin seems passive or less confident playing with Kemba.

  • cdblue10

Why are we debating?Hornets lose because they didn’t compete in the first quarter, every time a team put up a lead w/ more than 10 points,it’s already hard to overcome that and 1 more thing Hornets seems can’t missed every time they shoot the ball, this is the game where even Jordan can’t save the game.

  • wu kong

    PSA: refresh for image

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Kemba attached the basket and passed the ball tonight. Lin looked tired and not aggressive like he partied late last night. Photos show below

  • takemeback2reaganyears

No he was not himself tonight. He looked very tired or not enough sleep

  • Briiick

The bench can’t save the first unit every time, doing the dirty work for KW and Batum to pad their stats.

  • HY C
  • NONONO

Too much video games? call tiger mom.

  • NONONO

    Exactly.

  • GSW is leading 68-49 :]

  • wow .. harsh but it has a lot of truth

  • NONONO

Do you think Cliff would let Lin play more PG AFTER ASG?

  • takemeback2reaganyears

I sensed that this gonna get a lot worse

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Lin played a lot of pg tonight.

  • Briiick

I am afraid Hornets’ games are going to get harder from now on because opponents didn’t respect them before but are motivated to game plan them due to the recent buzz about them.

  • NONONO

true. for one game. I agree that Lin passed too much tonight.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Then we should worry for him more instead of the coach.

  • NONONO

i think he will be fine next game. i am not sure about the coach – too easy on Kemba’s bad defense for 20 games?

  • NONONO

I think Cliff would have no much choice and let Lin play more PG.

  • khomphuong2
  • NONONO

Lin played well in first half. But so many good passes seem wasted. Maybe he was frustrated in the 2nd half.

  • blubell

  • takemeback2reaganyears

It will not change but lin just has to do what he has to do even if it comes to the point of bailing out starters nightly.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

9 to 5 job, lin can do what he wanted

  • Jeremiah (the Grey)

This coach is so unimaginative. Most of the Magics shots were falling and for the few that didn’t they got the rebounds for second chances. What’s Cliff’s idea for an adjustment? Bring friggen Hairston back in like that’s gonna help. How about trying Hansbrough for rebounds and some PnRs with Lin. It’s not like the game wasn’t hopeless anyway.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

I did not care care much of the loss tonight just like a game in a long season. What makes me peesh was lin wasn’t prepared to takeover this good opportunity. He was tired.

  • Yascar

Well Lin fans we get to do it all again tomorrow.

  • Acbc

Magic shot too well from 3 and Horents didn’t that’s a sure recipe for a loss. You cannot ever beat a team that shoots 57% 3s. Unless you can rely as well in kind. GSW is 24/1 because of that imbalance.

The bigger question is why? Why blame it on Lin when he clearly can’t go and steal the ball right out of Kemba’s hands. The fault lands squarely on Clifford and CHO. CHO needs to accept blame for signing guys who can only play old style ISO ball. The modern game is PNR rim and 3s. The hornets aren’t built that way.

Clifford as a coach should also take blame for sticking with the guys that can only do the same old things. You just can’t chnage a leaopard’s spots no matter how much you try. So now we have a offensive set of motion offence that’s too tight with too many bodies inside. To make matters worst, the side PNR was deliberately taken out of the game by Stiles to stop Lin the wrecking ball.

The more I watch Clifford, the more I’m convince that he’s not the coach for Lin. I’ll put up with him this year, but Lin needs to move on. I’ll try to explain later in more depth why. Quite simply, Clifford stuck on Kemba and Batum running plays in a set system that is so ridgit that good coaches know in advance what’s coming a mile away. If Clifford had superstars that can meet opponents one on one and beat them, that system would work because once you’ve beat your man, defences must meet you with someone else. Kemba and Batum aren’t that good and the guys running motion offence through screens aren’t able to get into clean passing lanes. This again is just good scouting and bad coaching.

  • sws94

Yes. Hopefully with better results. Really, you never know what’s going to happen until the game is played.

  • Hope

Is Lin starting from now on? I think the PJ experiment is over.

  • Acbc

Horents bigs just aren’t strong enough underneath. I’ve been following the Raotors and Bismack Blyombo takes passes from Lowrey underneath and just powers up and stuffs it in. Clifford is so stuck about length that he stopped developing him for 2 years, the same way he’s sitting out Pscho T who’s about the same size with about the same amount of toughness. Lin puts balls in Hornets bigs underneath and they often get stripped or blocked.

SO WHY DOES LIN DO IT? Because the team needs interior muscle and toughness to be any good at the end of the season. Lin is forcing these guys to up their games, get used to accepting passes, get used to holding onto the ball and get used to powering up to stuff the ball away. Tank, Zeller and Hawes need to take their game to the next level and Lin is trying to force them up there.

  • DX

Better not, would rather Lin play PG with 2nd unit.

  • sws94

Not based on what I saw tonight. I think Clifford just wanted to jump start the team but it didn’t really work. Lin more effective with 2nd unit guys.

  • Acbc

Hey psalm, I’ve got another post stuck in pending again. Please fix it, thanks

  • blubell

    Approved 🙂

  • sws94

Clifford really seemed angry at postgame. Just said they had the worst shootaround and they played like it. And that was it.

  • DX

He should be mad, that’s make him better than BS.

  • Yascar

Yes I just want to get rid of the bitter taste of this game.

  • occupatio

he blamed the team for not having energy, concentration, focus in shootaround and said thats what happened in the game.

sounds to me like mostly blaming the players. what about coach’s rotations?

i know this script. mchale often said after losses that the team doesnt play hard enough.

  • JJ Hui

This coach is so old fashion, old school, stubborn, uncreative and big talker!
Let the starter dig a hole, put in the second unit to save them, and when the second unit flowing n scoring, put in the first unit to mess up the lead and mess up the flow and the rhythm!
    What’s wrong with this coach?

  • JoeTeam

Yeah, I skipped a quarter and the game was pretty much ovaaaa.

  • spiderman

He seems to have his favorites – and Hairston is a definite favorite

  • LinMad

Truth is that the Hornets starters got beat hard and Cliff tried to stop the bleeding by putting in Lin with the starters in the 3rd qtr but with Kemba at point. Result: everyone including Lin ended up with a minus.

Magic’s starters were all + double figures. However, most of the Magic’s bench was negative and I think it had to do with how Lin was point for 2nd unit in the first half.

  • occupatio

i really dont believe the all-star bid theory.
cliff is simply stubborn about who he thinks are the most talented guys on the team are.

  • FSW

    Well put acbc
Not sure what Lin saw during free agency
    Maybe no Other good offers
Hope Lin stays healthy and finds a good team next year

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Time to stop blaming the coach only. Player (s) need to come ready 100% if not more and respect the extremely high level of competition of the NBA

  • FSW

True to some degree good players can mask bad coaching, but good coaches find a way to win.

  • JJ Hui

Omg! It’s so funny and i was laughing so hard!
    Tq!

  • takemeback2reaganyears

He put lin in situations we all wished for tonight. staying up late gaming and selfie didn’t help.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

The past 5 or 6 games Cliff delivered what he promised lin, tonight was altimated test but lin failed to capture it because he was irresponsible unprepared.

  • FSW

We don’t know for a fact that he was tired or stayed up tiger fan lol. Whole team lost flow second half and Lin as well. These games happen and only becomes a problem if it heralds a losing streak of epic magnitude

  • takemeback2reaganyears

It’s so much easier to blame others.

  • FSW

    Always

  • FSW

    Often more fun too

  • takemeback2reaganyears

3 days off and he went out parting. Watch the game and look at his face, eyes and moves. You don’t need an MD degree to tell somebody out of norm.

  • FSW

Lol you might be right, but whole team looked tired so maybe it was a team dota pajama party

  • adele

I beg to disagree. I was watching the game. We have league pass and I record every hornets game. Clifford’s coaching is very predictable. If he is against a smart coach like Stiles, he will surely lose. Since the beginning of the season, everybody in the league or in the NBA (coaches, players, etc) that kemba and batum are the stars and should be running the offense. Lin? Clifford puts him there like he is carrying the world. Lins role if he is given more minutes is like an all around guy in the office. While the anointed Kemba is chucking every shot and just stood there and not doing defense.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

I don’t care about other players or even the loss tonight.

  • Briiick

He wanted to put the 1st unit back in to take the credit when things seemed to turn around, but………

  • takemeback2reaganyears

We know each other well where we stand, I am on your side since day one to root for lin but not tonight, this game was the one we have been asking for but lin didn’t capitalize it. He wasted it.

  • adele

Yes, he runs the point in the first few minutes but when the starters are playing along with him, he is relegated to his usual corner and will be lucky if he touches the ball. Main role when playing with the starters is to play defense to make up for everybody’s poor defense.

  • adele

Hope so. But not in Cliffords world. Lin is a one year rental to him and will be treated like a band aid. A temporary patch if something is leaking.

  • Why is there even a need to even scape-goat JLin’s friend or speculating on JLin’s gaming?
If he seemed distracted and not focused on games, that might be a valid concern. But that’s not the case tonight.

Noone can deny he’s the hardest working Hornets out there tonight, just like that reddit comment accurately portrayed.
He got his face smashed by Payton and Oladipo but he quickly bounced up. I’m so disappointed Lin fans can question his effort when he worked so hard & displayed his toughness tonight. IMO that’s a complete misdiagnosis on the issue

The problem tonight had nothing to do with spending time with friends or speculating he played late night games.
We’ve seen him working hard even during off-days. As long he works hard on the court and focus on the game, that’s the best that fans can expect from him.

Tonight it’s clear JLin went out of his ways to feed Frank, Hawes to get them going but Magic kept hitting shots and the Hornets didn’t respond with energy. Lin was expending most of his energy guarding Oladipo and Payton; he’s human so it’s bound to affect his energy level in the 2nd half.

I’m more concerned with JLin being over-facilitating and expended too much energy on defense that it affected his drives and offensive consistency. I hope JLin gets to the point to be a scorer when his teammates struggled so they can follow his lead when scores in bunches. That’s my only wish that Lin would be more like Nash in using scoring to get his teammates to follow his lead.

  • bolero

there’s only one person blaming Lin here…

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Agreed. Very annoying when his tiger fans blamed JLin for the loss. Too many reasons for the loss. JLin is just a human who has done his best when most of his teammates weren’t ready for the game. He can’t be a savior to rescue the starters and everyone else in every game.

  • I also see 4 people voted the original post. Very disappointing

  • bolero

    indeed..

  • adele

No he didn’t. kemba failed with his shooting, batum failed with his fouls, Lin can’t carry them anymore. Too much!

  • I get it some Lin fans want him to score more (as I do) but I don’t know if I can take the hits and toughen things up like Lin did. So I understand he gave his best effort; I can respect that.

If Lin was sleep-walking and partying late night with friends, that would be different.
He gave it his all tonight to get his team to play team-ball but nothing worked.

  • Briiick

    Well said.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

First having friends is good and everyone needs friend in life. Lin is an intelligent adult and he should be responsible for his own action.

Lin is a nicest down to earth celebrity we have never known. If his friends really lookout for him, stop using his popularity for personal gain. Night before game on the road, stay in your hotel and rest.

  • adele

I don’t know why you said he failed. He is not the only player in this team. He was given minutes, yes… He was in the 4th quarter, yes. But did you really watch carefully? How kemba chucks most of his shots? The opposing coach knows that Kemba and Batum is going to do most of the shots so they are fully guarded now! They don’t care about Lin much because his touches are so minimal and he is not playing the point if Kemba is with him.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

They don’t need a win, lin needs to capture the moment to at least keep the game close.

  • Briiick

You can just block them for a few days. There is another site they can hang round.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Lin was nowhere near himself tonight. His face and body language was like he just played 3 nights b2b not 3 nights off.

  • adele

How can he capture the moment when Kemba is still the star of the show? It’s painful to watch because to me, Lin is just a helper for this team and won’t be allowed to become a star. How can he? even lamb is sharing the limelight.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

That is the best way to escape the truth. Block? Smh.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Lin was playing a lot of pg tonight.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Don’t believe any iota that JLin party and/or played vid games all night with his friends. Didn’t he allow to have fun a little the day/night before the game after he has prepared for the game????!!!! JLin is one of the most disciplined person I’ve ever known. He wouldn’t allow all those to affect his games.

When I watched the game, JLin has played within his mean. Yes, he could have shoot more but the opp didn’t give him much chance. He should have made every basket like 100% but that was very unrealistic to any player. I just wish he didn’t sacrifice his body as much to take the charge. One hit was so hard that he stayed down for quite a while and I feared for worse at that point.

  • bolero

    Truth? it’s mere speculation..

  • that’s very subjective.

I can only base my assessment on the effort that he gave tonight. He played superb defense like the recent games. Could his facial expression be affected after Payton’s elbow slammed to his face and he was down on he floor for a good 10 seconds?

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Not my words, photos and video posted by lin and his buddy.

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Don’t you realize that JLin always looks tired even after playing a little. His teammates from high school and college always said that. When he needed to play/give more, he would/could.

  • adele

Really? Cant believe you said that! I used to value your opinion but I don’t know what happened because it seems like you stopped being a Lin Fan and became a fan of some team?

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Assessment and effort don’t belong in the NBA. It’s in grade school psalm.

  • adele

    What truth?

  • We don’t know how late JLin stay with his friends. It’s unfair to speculate it affected his focus and effort in the game.

I’m not sure why you didn’t see JLin play very hard today. Of many games, JLin has been tough enough to be everywhere on defense and absorbing many hits. Even Stephanie Ready praised Lin for his hustle to get the ball when Oladipo slammed to him. I’m surprised you didn’t take any account of JLin’s defensive effort and hustle at all.

  • adele

So if he is posting those, that makes him a bad player? I will be happy if Lin will do something other than basketball.

  • Spot

They’re just trolls. Flag them or “take not care of them but just see and walk away” (I don’t know if the translation is good 😀 it’s Divine Comedy anyway)

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Yep I saw all of them (maybe 3-4 pics). Well, this doesn’t mean that he partied all night at all. Maybe a couple hours the most. JLin has mentioned all these in his Q&A in the past few years. People criticized him for not practiced tons and the same people who were tiger moms didn’t know that he just finished 6 hours of training. So glad that he learns to tune out all those tiger fans. His fans should know all these; thought only haters would criticize him unmercifully.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

  • takemeback2reaganyears

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Guess you are probably only a few that saw something that majority of us didn’t see. Very very interesting!

  • bolero

I think he should bring his negative energy somewhere else for the time being. Nothing he says is factual and all innuendo..

  • takemeback2reaganyears

He played hard everynight no doubt. His physical was questioned.

  • adele

No. If you pay attention, Clifford’s coaching is different. He touches the ball a few times and play defense most of the time. I can count the touches because I record the game. Lamb plays the point, batum plays the point, kemba plays most point.

  • takemeback2reaganyears

Out of my control what others chose to see. Sorry.

  • I agree Lin should’ve scored more, instead of passing to Hawes.
That’s over-facilitating and can endanger his career.

But JLin has stayed 6 years in the NBA for a reason. I merely ask you to see that if JLin didn’t get enough rest or distracted, he wouldn’t be able to play excellent defense and contribute in this game. We can’t neglect his contribution on defense and setting up his teammates, even on a night when it didn’t work

  • I guess we just have to agree to disagree on this.
I believe you might change your mind when you see the highlights.

Let’s focus on the next game; hopefully Lin can get double digits & bring Hornets a win.

  • leeda harun

Hmmm…. The heated discussion because of the holidays party and the 3 days of rest… I hope the team can beat raptors…can they? The raptors well rested in buzz city

  • Here comes Jun Liu’s 8:45 highlights:

  • JLin Fan from Australia

Yep. He is a night owl. So what????!!!!! Many of us are including me. Not everyone goes to bed before 9pm. In fact I seldom go to bed before 1am. Used to be I stayed up until 4/5am. Slept 1.5 hours and went to class and work. Then returned home to take a couple hours of nap and studied until 4/5am. I did that everyday until I finished my doctoral studies.

When I began to work, I still didn’t go to bed until around 1pm but I woke up in the morning around 6am in summer and 7am in winter. Didn’t take any nap. It didn’t affect my life at all.

Did you ever watch his game day vid that was published when he was in Houston?????? JLin took a few hours of nap in his game day.

  • spiderman

Please – “the extremely high level of competition of the NBA” is plagued by politics and corruption.

Not necessary to try to dignify the NBA as some noble merit-based sport.

  • adele

Wow! Easy to blame Lin this time huh! Good luck on your posting here. You might try posting in other sites as well. Might be more anti Lin and you’re free to post anything under the sun.

  • Orlando shooting was too magical tonight.
It’s okay. I hope his Hornets teammates follow his example to fight and not easily give up

  • JLin Fan from Australia

We will find out tomorrow, tonight in US:-) Guess it depends on how starters do. If they continue to lose the game, not sure second unit is able to rescue them. Don’t know much about Raptors but they have been doing quite well according to the stat. My prayer is JLin has no ill-effect from all hits that he received in this game.

  • it’ll be tough but hopefully this loss will make them re-focus tomorrow

You guys need to stop going nuclear when someone criticizes Lin’s game.

How is this different from Kobe fans defending Kobe?

You guys need to be able to accept that Lin has a couple of bad games and today was a terrible one and be able to acknowledge it.

How can you guys continue to make excuses for

    -his poor shooting?

-Can’t even make pairs of FTs on the consistent basis? Best 0.823 to 0.776 and dropping almost every game.

He’s missing wide open shots for crying out loud! Not contested ones.

How can you always blame Kemba this and Kemba that? Kemba icing Lin only but what about Lamb and Marvin.
    Jeremy Lamb 23.3mpg vs Lin 23.6mpg 0.487FG% vs 0.411FG%

Today Batum who is the main ball hogger for Lin didn’t play much. and Lin had the most mins played this game.

From my observation for all the regular season games Lin has never called for the ball after a defensive rebound when Kemba gets it. This is my speculation but Lin hasn’t shown his unit that he is the leader of the bench unit.

    EG:

Cody/Hawes or Frank gets a defensive rebound

For Kemba: They ALWAYS look for him first and pass to him even when Lin is in front of them.

For Lin: They ignore him unless both Kemba/Batum are benched then Lin just runs back to the corner.

Lambs is notorious for just dribbling the ball half court even when Lin has both hands open asking for it.

Lin needs to be assertive and show his second unit that he is the leader/ball handler and that EVERY possession has to be passed to him first.

Was Lin blocked on what looked like a lay-up attempt at the 2:29 minute mark of the highlight video?

Or was this a pass or did the ball simply slipped out of his hand and miraculously find Hawes?

I hope this wasn’t a deliberate pass because Lin could had simply lay the ball in..He was already up there.

  • Lin Win

I think it’s because Lin was about to get blocked if he put it in and decided to pass to hawes for the easy layup but..

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

I get the sense that it is exactly what’s happening…It’s like every time the bench catch up and dig the team out of the hole the starters created, Clifford would find a way to bring back the starters, specially Kemba.

He should roll with the unit that is doing well for as long as possible.

Tonight, the bench did attempt to pull the team out of the hole, but it was simply too much for them…Orlando was very hot and it was not to be.

But the starters need to play better and can’t count on the bench to bring them back every night.

  • sport

Lin tends to think the pass to the teammate is better when many times it’s not and ends up as a miss! He was so close to the basket already might as well take the shot and hope for a foul. Especially when he gets a fast break from his rebound, he can certainly just stop and pop for a 3 or mid 2! There no need to stop and pass to a teammate which many times ends as a miss!

  • Phillycheese

Where did you get this info that Lin was not prepared?

  • Dorothy

Can not believe when texted Tyler Hansbrough to vote for him, got “Sorry, pls check the player name & try again or vote online”
LOL, NBA did not think anyone would vote for him. Let’s help him to be recognized by NBA and get more PT from the coach!!!

  • 1mtoldman

wow no wonder yer even less popular on here than i am (based on votes to posts ratio).

but uh i agree with everything you say in this post (basically). lin did have a bad game and his free throw shooting is declining and his overall shooting % is very poor:

because he is taking way too many long shots, he’s taking a higher ratio of 3’s and long 2’s than ever before in his career. i could attribute it to the way he was being used earlier but certainly not in this game.

so yeah lin had a bad game i agree. of course batum and walker had even worse games; but as you say, we dont care about them.

lin had just had 2 good games in a row. in this game he had the opporutnity the minutes time with the ball in his hands to have a 3rd and really boost his ratings from where they had previously fallen but he didn’t do that.

he shot poorly made poor decisions and in the end seemed almost panicky and well what lin haters always say he is: out of control.

the thing is historically, when he’s not good he doesn’t get a lot more chances to be good.

we’ll see what happens raptors game. kind of imo an important game for lin and his future opportunites in the nba. (not trying to be dramatic but it just feels that way).

  • 1mtoldman

did you look for a box marked psycho t?

  • Dorothy

I have been voting for him for several days via computers, just started adding him when I vote via cell phone text message. That was when i encountered the problem.

  • Kwok Wai Lai

I can see Jefferson is sorely missed. Lin could have lots of assists if the bigs could score down low.

  • wu kong

Trolls trolls everywhere It is just amazing to me the stamina some of these trolls have for following JLin and his fans. Frantically running around seeding boards & articles with discord and general whacky theories. Years of hate. Years of it! Kind of got to give them some credit for their longevity. I wonder if they have secret meetings and handshakes?

  • LinJa

I think you’re confusing Lins tired look with Lins I’m losing look. Hence you think he looks tired. Possibly he looks like he’s frustrated the team is losing and they can’t catch up.

  • LinJa

For those who thinks Lin looks tired. I think he actually looks frustrated that the team is falling behind. His nice guy frustrated look looks like he’s tired lol. Lin is too positive that his frustrated look is buried and comes out looking tired lol. He still plays hard on defense, but offensively he is not optimistic. Hence he doesn’t shoot positively because of his frustration coming from behind mindset. Plus I can see every time hornets makes a mini run and magic answers, you can see Lins shoulder slumps when the shots fell or get and open land drive. You almost see him wanting to lift his hands like cliff and yell wtf is that to the team defense. Then you see him looked like his energy is sapped.

  • Brewkowski

Sheesh, what are you a lawyer? Chill with this.

  • sws94

I agree with you. I didnt’ see any lack of effort or energy.

I think we have to come to terms that Lin is not looking to score as much as we’d like. He’s still in his shooting slump but he now loves setting up his guys and facilitating, sometimes at the expense of his scoring. I don’t know if he’ll look to score more later but he’s one of the best finishing PGs at the rim, so he should finish and not dump it off to poor finishing big men that are on his team. His best assists came from the perimeter to Kaminsky when he through him that bullet pass for an easy layup. Under the rim on the drive, they are slow to react to his passes or rush them and miss the shots.

  • sws94

    They shot well.

  • sws94

I don’t agree that he had a bad game. I think he overall played well. The only issue I have with Lin is a few times I thought he should have shot the layup. Otherwise, he was fine.

  • sws94

I thought Lin had a good game. He did have a good scoring game after the promising start, but Clifford doesn’t put Lin in to start the 3Q if Lin was playing poorly. Limiting Olidipo is not easy and while Lin guarded him, Oladipo did not hurt with his penetration. Oladipo did not force any TOs on Lin, the only TO Lin had was a charging and I don’t think Clifford minds that. He also drew a hard charge on one of the players and Clifford is beginning to see Lin is good at drawing them. He tried to work it out with Kemba but Kemba had a tough game. He didn’t have Batum to play off of so defenses could key more onto him as no one but Lamb was really playing effectively (and Lamb only shot well, he didn’t play good D and held on to the ball too long).

Yes in the 2nd half Lin couldn’t make shots and yes Lin should have finished at the rim rather than pass in the first half a few times. But Lin likes to get the whole team involved and his big men pumped up. If they could finish, he would have had more assists and they would have been pumped up. But, they didn’t. So I hope Cliff shows him that on film and tells him to shoot it.

  • xeroid

When Lin missed the foul shot, he was directing traffic before he took the shot on his teammates defensive positioning. I think he should have more concentrated on his shooting then directing others. It was not necessary.

  • Hope

Does he have a 20pts game this season yet?

  • CJSHYY

    No, only 19pts.

  • sws94

So, now do you see why I think Lin should play off of the bench for this team? Starting is only desired if the 5 men on the court are the best unit, not the 5 best players. Lin’s brand of basketball does not necessarily blend well with the 5 on the court, specifically one of the main players. But when he is off the bench he is in a position to use more of his skills, in this system, to help sustain the starter’s momentum but in most cases, change it for the better and get his team out of a hole.

Lin did great in his usual time to enter the game. However, starting the 3rd, he’s just underutilized. So for this team and this personnel, and for other teams frankly I see in the NBA, Lin is better coming off of the bench. As for the minutes question, he needs a certain amount, but it is quality over quantity no matter what the stats may say. If he’s with the right combination by all means play him. But if he’s not, then use him strategically with the right people or in the right role.

Lin is doing better now. He’s quicker in decisionmaking, forcing the action less, handling ball pressure much better, getting to his spots better. He can improve the following: look to score more. The team needs that. Move off-ball more and quicker. Don’t think. Get the ball and react w/o thinking. He’s doing more with Batum and Kemba on the floor but there may just be that he can do but so much with Kemba on the floor. He can’t change what Kemba does and Kemba has years of Kemba tendencies he’s fighting with playing with the new additions.

  • sws94

Maybe tonight. Can happen any night. Believe.

  • heart

I notice that Lin sacrifices his body for at least one charge per game. Last night, he had at least two big collisions. That takes a toll on your body. The team defense was awful last night. Magic was able to get inside the paint for layups time after time and Cliff didn’t even changed up the defense tactics or personnel. It was bad all around, but Lin took a lot of beating already. Magic bigs were ready for him to either block or hit him hard. Cliff was out coached again.

  • sws94

What changes could he have made? Not saying you are wrong, but do you have any ideas of what he could have done?

  • new Raptors game thread is open

    http://www.jlinportal.com/g25-tor-cha-game-thread/

After 3-days break, the Hornets came out flat and was completely outmatched against a hot-shooting Magic (56% FGM & even higher 58% 3FGM).

    – JLin valiantly tried to wake up his teammates who blew his assists with missed layups and putback. Jeremy played well in the 1st half with 7pts/2asts (3-5 shooting, 1-2 3pt shooting, one was a late one with 3 seconds left in the 2nd quarter) but had 1pts/2asts (0-4 shooting, 1/2 FTM) as he continued to play with hustle and defensive energy absorbing hits (elbows to the face to draw charge, collision with Oladipo in fighting for rebound).
    – His defense on Payton and Oladipo were tremendous but he’s only one person; Hornets teammates did not rotate well as the Magic hit 14-24 3pt shots.
    – The trend continued with JLin scoring well in the 1st half but cooled down in the 2nd half, possibly due to expending so much energy playing shutdown defense; alternating between chasing players and sliding to the middle to provide help defense.
    – It’s notable that Coach Clifford tried to start JLin with the starters in the 3rd quarter in attempt to spark the starters to play well but it didn’t work.

    Hornets vs Raptors Matchup

1 Will the Hornets come out to play on the 2nd game in back-to-back?
2 Charlotte is 2-1 in the second of back-to-backs, though the lone loss came with Saturday’s 98-93 defeat against Boston. The Hornets are 10-4 at Time Warner Cable Arena, but they have split their last six games there. Raptors just blew a huge lead to lose against the Pacers.
3 They still miss 2 starters ( DeMarre Carroll and Jonas Valanciunas) but have Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan who play very well.

Let’s go, JLin! Let’s continue to shoot at least 8FG & 4 FT attempts. Relax, be your aggressive self & just play your game on matter what happens

  • Very accurate assessment.

JLin played very well in the 1st half with 7pts/2a but as you said, was underutilized trying to be a decoy to spark the sleep-walking starters to start the 3rd quarter.

It’s very concerning that Kemba/Batum/Lin chemistry is still having hiccups. Batum/Lin works much better but Clifford needs to run plays to get all 3 playmakers to get going. They would need it to close out games anyway.

I agree JLin needs to look to score more, not over-facilitate and over-think

  • ZcodeSportSystem.com

I agree with you and most people can see this now…This is also why I was one of the few Lin fan who advocated for Lin to come off the bench because it allows him to fully take control of the ball and play his game.

With the first unit, Kemba and Batum will always be top priority, so whenever he plays with them, it’s almost like he wasn’t there.

My only issue is that Clifford should do much more to set the second unit into Lin’s hand..

Firstly, he should not hesitate to pull Kemba out as soon as the 6th minute mark in the first half.

Second..I would like to see even more PnR for Lin when he plays with the second unit.

Thirdly, do not bring in Kemba until the 5th minute of the second quarter….Make sure t give Lin at least 15 minutes as the main PG….Stats have showns Lin plays great when he’s facilitating, but his numbers drops greatly when he plays off the ball.

We saw some of that last night…Lin scored most of his point when he was leading the second unit..than when he was brought into the game to start the second half alongside Kemba, he couldn’t score or do anything at all.

What made me think about this coach is, his main purpose is not winning games but babysitting KW, so sick of it!

  • JJ Hui

Honestly, you are getting too deep in Lin’s personal life!

Even Our own parents couldn’t control our daily lives once we become adults, i dont think you can control your adult kids day in and day out activities!

It is getting scary when one become a helicopter fan or tiger fan! Lin doesnt need all these, he is a 27 yrs old adult, successfully graduted from Harvard, 6th years in NBA, Tag Hauer watch n Adidas endorsements etc., he is fine and we dont need to go into his personal life!
He needs a life just like everyone else! He is a very good 27 yrs old adult, so no worries!
