G2 CHA @ATL Game Thread

Game #2 is about to start vs Atlanta Hawks

Coach Clifford is still testing the ineffective Hairston at SF starting lineup.

1. Will the Hornets (or Al) play better defense that allowed so many inside penetration and easy points by the Heat?
2. Will they allow another hot 3PT shooting as 60% by the Heat?
3. With Jeremy Lamb coming back, will it help to create better spacing that Jeremy can run better PnR?
They need the 3PT threat desperately since they only made 6 treys last game by Lin/Batum (2 each), Kemba/Hairston (1 each)
Hawes and Frank will also need to make some 3s

Let’s hope/pray/wish/support JLin to stay healthy and have fun to play his aggressive game whenever he steps on the court

Let’s go, HairSanity!

@rick_bonnell Hmm… after how the Heat game started off, I was hoping for Lin instead of Hairston and Zeller instead of Williams.
      12:44 PM – 30 Oct 2015

A hornet fan tweeted lin should start.

    • Rzo Vlade
    • TTNN
    • CJSHYY

That’s really bad for him. I saw him got 0 pts for both games…. smh! First game he came off the bench. No ball for him?!

    • real-dsb

wow, that sucks for Noah. Trade him for Al. =p

    • real-dsb

      doh

    • blueCypher

      That’s a pretty late start for a game, 8pm

    • real-dsb

I’m neither an optimist nor pessimist, I just try to call it as I see it. Unfortunately, I see Hornets losing next two to ATL, especially with Lin coming off the bench and not being able to help Kemba get better looks.

If Clifford plays more Batum/Lin/Kemba combo though, I think they have chance to win.

    • blueCypher

      I have them winning tonight

    • sws94

I think a good chance to win tonight and split the Atlanta games. If Lamb comes in and shoots well that helps. Korver is out and that’s big.

    • heart

As long as Lin gets his stats, it’ll be a good night.

    • Rick Johnson

I think the main thing with Lamb is that he allows Lin to be PG on the 2nd team. Team just seemed out of sorts in that first game, not coordinated. JLin still got his points but team didn’t seem to flow well with him as SG.

    • Rzo Vlade
    • Michael

18th! Hope Al passes out of the double team faster. ( Or does he even get double teamed = =_)

    • TTNN

      no way, why?

    • Rzo Vlade

      trade his @zzz

    • Rzo Vlade

shot blocker and defender and joe 3pt I hate him but you gotta add him to make it work

    • Jeremiah (the Grey)

For Lin fans’ eyes only: I want Lin to have career high stats, but the Hornets lose anyway–until the Hornets come to their senses and “correct” this ridiculous starting lineup.

    • jlim7

If you want to ship out someone, it should be Hawes not Cody. Lin only has Cody and Hansbrough as PnR partners and PnR defender. Others are PnP or soft pick in PnR like Hawes. Those who cannot do PnR properly usually also cannot defend PnR properly.

    • Rzo Vlade

cody I think from indiana and pacers dont want hawes…….they will hang up the phone if its not cody

rim protection and shot blocker is top priority

    • jlim7

Question, why Clifford assigned Hawes to do PnR with Lin against Heat 2 days ago? He set a soft pick, hardly stopped Green and Winslow, and rolling to wrong direction, to the place that Lin difficult to pass. What is your guess? Is it because he is Clifford’s favourite, or Clifford wanted him to learn, or Clifford version of pick should be soft to avoid offensive foul or other reason?

    • real-dsb

      39 pts it is!

    • Another alternative is the “NJ Nets Linsanity game” recipe ..

Hornets looks sluggish .. until JLin checks in and makes all kinds of crazy wild shots, assists, 3s for the Win then he rests. Rinse & Repeat.

It might take 5 games but then he should start

    • Spot

      No Joe johnson please!

    • Jeremiah (the Grey)

Then 40, 41, 42…and the Hornets keep losing until Clifford says uncle and sends Hairston, Al and Williams to the bench.

    • zxcvb

Meanwhile, Charlotte treats Big Al like he’s Tim Duncan. Politics follows Lin wherever he goes. Undeserving guys starting over him every time.

    • Jeremiah (the Grey)

You always try to find the positive way of getting it done. But I’m afraid it’s gonna take some hardball. 🙂

    • zxcvb

Hawes is a good passer and 3pt shooter. Very valuable if used right.

Kemba / Lin / Batum / Zeller / Hawes should be the starters, no question in my mind.

    • Rzo Vlade

you need to add him if you want brooklyn to say yes…and also to make the trade works

    • Spot

If you trade him for Al, good. But Noah is not that good anyway…

    • Riddick

Pretty early for us West siders…5pm.

    • I’m actually concerned some haters will say, “Lin scored a lot of points but they still lost!” haha.. we know it’ll be coming

That’s why I thought the NJ Nets game scenario is perfect. Hornets media should call him to start immediately

    • Sundown

You want Lin’s team to lose? And folks wonder why Lin fans have such a bad rep out in the general NBA world.

    • jlim7

No question about his passing and 3 pointer, but he plays like SF. It should be him or Williams, but i don’t think any team wants Williams more than Hawes.

    • Jeremiah (the Grey)

They don’t wonder. They know it’s because of you. LOL

    • jlim7

To me it should be Kemba / Lin / Batum / Hansbrough / Zeller

    • Jeremiah (the Grey)

I think only losses will get their attention. Otherwise there will be no strong incentive to change.

    • jlim7

Don’t do trade then, if Indiana doesn’t want. Don’t give your good asset for bad asset like Joe Johnson.

    • Linzen

I respect your sentiment… maybe it is the only way.
But, in all fairness, besides from this starting lineup mess, Hornets has been really good to JLin. MJ the GOAT even came out to endorse our boy. So, I will still root for them to win.

Also, if they keep on losing, how would JLin feel? He is such a team player… he is so happy now.

    • real-dsb

fyi, ATL favored by 4.5 pts

    • real-dsb

but if CHA/ATL split the games, more likely for the home team to win?

So CHA loses tonight and wins Sunday?

    • Jeremiah (the Grey)

I can respect your point of view as well. But…

“besides from this starting lineup mess”: is like, “but otherwise Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?”

“Hornets has been really good to JLin”: I guess relative to Lakers and Rox that’s true but they’re paying him the minimum and not starting him as he deserves.

And we don’t know how happy JLin is now that he’s seen the rotations. Losing a few games to correct a ridiculous choice of starting lineup is not a big price to pay.

    • real-dsb

Some promising things from Game 1:

Lin actually had more PT than 2 starters. And he was 5th on the team in minutes played. So he was a virtual starter in terms of minutes. And he closed the game from 3Q 4:46 onwards, I can’t remember the last time that happened.

Some Lin fans wanted to give Clifford the benefit of the doubt, saying that maybe he would start Hairston, but play Lin more and let Lin close. You guys were exactly right, kudos!

I would, of course, prefer Lin to start with Kemba, Batum, and it doesn’t matter which PF/Cs. But if Lin continues to put up numbers like 17 pts on 10 shots, and transform Kemba from an inefficient player to an efficient one (like he did in Game 1), it’s only a short matter of time that he works his way into starting lineup.

    • Alain Gervais

Don’t forget 3 minutes in the 2nd was taken away because of the heat run.

    • TTNN
    • David Kim

      Dennis 6’1″, Jeff Teague 6’2″
Good match for kemba and Lin but not until 4th QT? LOL

    • TTNN

yes, Lin sit because Green got a run, and coach thought he was over powered. But I think the coach later on figure out that was due to our bigs run back late, and caused the problem, thus AI was sit in the second half. I’m pretty encouraged by coach’s decision in that game. but in general, I still feel coach do not trust this small line up’s defense, thus he don’t want to start the game with it.

    • Alain Gervais

Can some Lin fans not stop annoying people?? Telling the coach who to play, who to trade for, and when you don’t get your way you throw a fit. Some of the hate Lin gets is created by these Fans. Please be Kind and respectful while bringing stats and educating people on Lin. If they still hate let Lin’s play speak for itself.Lin will always have hater. Everyone does. Michael jordan does so Lin definitely will.

    • CJSHYY

Totally agree. Lin needs media now. It’s OK if some of them don’t like his game. No big deal. This is not Rox period. Hornets media are fair & nice to Lin.

    • Alain Gervais

And we al get judge by a few quote ” All insanity fans are”

    • real-dsb

The Hornets announcers were basically calling for more PT for Lin during the game, and so is Bonnell. I hope Lin can get 30 mins today, and get some quality time with Kemba and first unit.

    • Riddick

Fans( ‘enthusiastically devoted to something or somebody’ per wikipedia.org ) are fans. Every athlete/celebrity/etc has them, so why don’t they hate fans of other athletes? The immaturity/intelligent level of those who hate the celebrity due to their fans is in question, not the fans themselves. One could say that Lin fans get a bad rap because they support Lin.

      * It surprises me at times how some Lin fans are ashamed to be known as Lin fans and criticize those that are more expressive, while whispering ‘go Lin’ silently in the far far background.

    • real-dsb

can you give more details? which 3 mins? 2nd quarter? 2nd half?

    • Alain Gervais

So some Lin fans can call them all kinds of names and question them AT THEIR JOBS but you want them to react nicely. I for one find Justin Bieber fans annoying. They give people death threat over the slightest insult to JB. No amount of professionalism will make anyone like them. As a matter a fact it creates this feeling of walking on glass just to mention his name. Im guessing thats how some media feel about Some Lin fans. Being nice to someone acting irrational is not easy.

    • TTNN
    • real-dsb

      please let it be!!

    • Alain Gervais

2nd quarter when Heat went on a run so he went back to the bigger lineup.

    • real-dsb

      got it, thanks.

    • Linja

The coach keeps the same lineup and expects different result.

    • CJSHYY
    • Sunny Sullenberger

      Totally agree.
Armchair coach Lin fans are terrible and annoying

    • Linzen

At least we respect each others’ point of view. That’s what this forum is all about.
Please don’t get me wrong. I am all for JLin to start. May be I am more on the same page with Psalm… 1st team plays bad, and JLin to the rescue.

After a few games, Clifford will have to come to his senses and start Lin.

    • Riddick

Please, media people want a reaction…any reaction. Why do you think they post Lin related things when they have little/no knowledge of him. They just cry foul when their lack of knowledge or biased comments get pointed out.
I, myself am not a ‘super’ enthusiastic Lin fan, but I give those that are big kudos for expressing their support for Lin, despite media whining.

    • grover chang

true. clifford often mentions the size of players when it comes to lineups, match ups, and defense. If he feels Lin is too small for his match up he may take him out or change his position.

    • heart

While Cliff talks about League’s changing offense, teams are implementing…

    • Ben Johnson

      No, really coach????

    • Linzen

      Long 2s?

    • grover chang

I would have less respect for Clifford if he changed the line up after one game. I don’t think that kind of impatience is a good message to the team.

    • real-dsb

Nice, Lin has made over 100 shots in a row… Or was it a loop? :p

    • grover chang

Lin for the 3 point contest.

    • Alain Gervais

And you give them exactly what they want, Also the media is a big label. Theres a lot of people under the term media. You cant say it like its everyone. Some are just miss informed. so be nice and respectful like you would do if you were to meet them in REAL LIFE. Don’t be a key board warrior. Ignore the haters because non of what you do will change them and Educate the ignorant. If he was ignorant i agree with you but if you were rude then i don’t.

    • Riddick

You can say that about most of the posters here in this forum and other forums or majority of sport fans as a whole…’Armchair coach fans’. That could be also said about Nate Duncan…he’s not even a legit media. smh

    • GoJLin!

No, JLin did a good job held on Green in first half. At 2Q 2:17 Lin Substitution replaced by Hairston, Green only got 2pts at that time; then after Lin sit, within 90 sec, Green made 2 of his 3pt shots.

    • pandaboy99

Is it me or is Charlottes PR team really emphasizing lin?

    • JLin Fan from Australia

For you info, I don’t tweet to any journalist unless they really annoy me. I only read what they wrote and retweet if it’s a good quote. So far I only made few responded tweets in Lakers and not Hornets at all. For this journalist put me as “all Linsanity fans” really anger me.

    • your son’s voltaire

i’ve listen to that Nate Duncan character’s podcast a few times and he’s a bonafide Lin hater

    • CJSHYY

      It’s Hornets org.

    • GoJLin!

2Q, Lin in 4:06, out at 2:17; Heat gain 5 Pts, but not because Green got a run; Green’s 2 3pts (6 pts) is after Lin sit.

    • CJSHYY

If so then don’t listen to his show anymore.

    • your son’s voltaire

      that goes without saying

    • Alain Gervais

Non of what i wrote was toward you specifically. Yes i was really annoyed by the second guys generality. Talking like he knows all of us.

    • Linzen

Batum bricks his 3 at the back. 🙁

    • Alain Gervais

Good. Lin haters need Lin fans to grows.

    • Linzen

      Agreed.
And, I am so confused with the second guy. If he doesn’t care about Lin and Lin’s fans, why put him as his profile picture?

    • your son’s voltaire

the second guy is an analyst and was a guest on the first guy’s show. he’s actually alright when he talked about Lin. he’s high on Lin’s game. but he seems to get ticked off easily here

    • Michael

I agree with you and I love Grover (sesame street )

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Yes I decided to unfollow the second guy. Didn’t get much good info from him anyway. Other ones are much better and more JLin fans friendly.

    • grover chang

no. they just wanted to show a hornet making a 3 pointer. Everyone else was probably missing their shots.

    • Michael

Got my chips and my game face on! Ready for the game, go Lin!

    • forestorteal

SP is actually v complimentary to Lin – describes his passing to Hawes as wizardry, grades Lin B+ in the Miami game and even names Lin as the Hornets’ best playmaker. However, SP does lump a certain type of fanatic fan… but instead of just getting indignant & upset with SP (& others), better to recognize & respond to the lesson in the message with a productive response… Certain fans need to dial it back, edit themselves better or simply refrain from commenting except on Lin specific forums like this one.
No one likes to hear a parent brag and argue incessantly on behalf of their child. Even if you are a teacher who really likes the kid, it can be annoying. Imagine the feeling if that one very vocal parent is cloned. After a while, it may become harder to distinguish a clone from an individual, especially if you are a tired and grumpy teacher?

    • JLin Fan from Australia

LOL Maybe you need to go back to sleep in order for Hornets to get a win instead:-)

      Again. Stop thinking too much.

    • sws94

HE needs to shoot the ball.

    • GoJLin!

      JLin 1 Steal

    • occupatio

lin has been bad. he had a layup before he lost his dribble, and still looks nervous and uncomfortable afterwards.

    • He’s been too careful. Hope he gets more aggressive

    • Alain Gervais

Lets see how lin reacts to this rough period

    • KL

Wilkins again said that Lin cannot guard Teague because he is not quick enough. I will see him eat his eats later this game!

    • sport

Yes he’s been hesitant since last game :/

    • Wayne Li

Second unit like a high school team now, smh.

    • JT

hornets defense is terrible….lin not very good either

    • zxcvb

LOL. He’s a racist that even Hawks fans make fun of. Lin friggin has DESTROYED Teague every game they’ve played.

    • CaliUSMC

Atlanta. I was supposed to go to this game but I sold it, because I had work.

    • Rick Johnson

Seems like he’s trying to pass and get his teammates going. Maybe he should start hitting baskets to start drawing the defense to get his teammates open.

    • zxcvb

Awful starting lineup by Clifford/MJ/Cho. Makes it so easy to defend CHA.

Starters suck. 2nd unit is 100% reliant on Lin, so Heat/Hawks just swarm him.

    • Papillon

Lin specializes in making haters eat crow

    • Alain Gervais

Wilkin said lin not quick times now

    • John Focker

The Lin-swarming has become a common theme amongst savvy teams, that’s recognition!

    • real-dsb

2q10 Lin picks up foul from Bazemore. Announcer Stephanie gives Lin credit for diving on the floor

    • Alain Gervais

      4th time

    • zxcvb

Ignore Wilkins, people. He’s an illiterate moron even Hawks fans cringe at.

    • real-dsb

2q10 Stephanie gives major credit to Lin for absorbing contact and finding Zeller

    • LAJane

      At last!

    • real-dsb

you guys should watch Hornets feed on LP

    • GoodDayLA

does the team suck or Lin suck today? Just turned on and down by like 10?

    • John Focker

I love Stephanie for being fair and impartial!

    • LAJane

Hey and some nice commentators props for how Jeremy took the contact and made that score happen

    • occupatio

      hes been playing scared

    • Martin Tsang

is there a hornets feed on NBA league pass (Free), this atlanta commentators keep dissing lin at every possible opportunity

    • real-dsb

    • John Focker

      Marvin “Asik” Williams…

    • I am The Jason

Wilkins is a huge Lin hater. His blind knowledge of Lin is astronomical

    • real-dsb

yes, go to another game, then switch back to CHA game, but choose AWAY feed

    • GoodDayLA

they SHARE the same freaking agent

    • real-dsb

people wathcing LP, switch to AWAY feed!

    • GoodDayLA

he probably sees Lin at agent parties

    • Rick Johnson

Cable TV only showing Atlanta feed

    • KL

Lin will pick things up. Just give it a bit of time.

    • KL

How to switch to away feed?

    • real-dsb

      2q8 lamb with nice c&s 3

Getting into rhythm on that 3.

    • KL

      2 assists for Lin.

    • occupatio

this looks like rockets-version of lin instead of what weve seen before. game is not slowed down for him; the opposite.

    • Alain Gervais

Lin worked really hard for it

    • Rick Johnson

Lost shoe last game now slipping losing dribble.

    • real-dsb

switch to another game, then drag Hornets game, choose away feed

    • Alain Gervais

    • zxcvb

      Nope.

    • KL

Ok good run. Lamb showing what he can do.

    • John Focker

      Lamb’s heating up…two treys in a row.

    • Martin Tsang

using the web browser first time and doesnt seem to be an option to choose away feed? (sorry first time league pass user)

    • LAJane

why did the big guy bring the ball down court – was about the gawkiest thing i’ve seen! Why did he do that!? Jeremy was right next to him.

    • zxcvb

Defense is focused 200% on Lin. Forcing everyone else to score uncontested. No one can except Lamb…finally.

    • LW

Lamb is the only offense the Hornets got right now. Lin is not playing well so far.

    • Alain Gervais

      yep

    • real-dsb

lol, caught up in the moment I guess

    • grover chang

    • stam

I’m worried lin keeps slipping…and falling.

lin gotta find a way to score despite the attention he’s getting or he’ll end up with minimum contract again next year

    • Hope

      Khuangsaity

    • cshot

i was considering getting the adidas crazylightboosts but not anymore lol!! jeremy tripping and slipping everywhere

    • occupatio

      lin is tripping on them.

    • Papillon

This is truly the kind of ideal lineup for Lin. He plays PG, there are no players that really need the ball in their hands to play. Lamb is a true SG. The bigs set screens. They play defense as a 5-man unit.

Shots just had not been falling for the guys up until that last run. But they are starting to do the right thing and the results will come.

    • real-dsb

I don’t see Jimmer on the floor LOL

    • Michael

Not blatantly just doing the little stuff, hooks, grabs, bumps…etc.

    • BUZZCITY17

Jeremy Lin aint scoring but hes doing the little things like hustling, playing defense and getting assists

    • real-dsb

      2q723 second unit plus Kemba.

    • LAJane

He has really been hitting the deck! No injuries PLEASE!

    • real-dsb

Kemba on Schroder, Lin on Patterson

    • zxcvb

Coach Bud isn’t a dummy. Lin destroys Teague and the Hawks every time for his entire career. So he doubles and triples Lin. Also, basketball isn’t a 7m game…so calm down everyone. Lin’s career isn’t over because he’s not shooting 100% on 20 FGA.

    • JJ Hui

Batum is PG? This is getting strange!

    • stam

      shoot is lin bleeding again?

    • sport

Can Lin stop with the head fake at the 3 point line already? Just let it fly. ><"

    • real-dsb

he’s just setting up for the next “let it fly”

    • sport

Except he’s been doing it every time. He needs to make some 3s so people would actually respect his shot and believe in his head fakes.

    • BUZZCITY17

      Lin needs to shoot more!

    • zxcvb

Lin playing very well, not forcing bad shots or getting TOs or PFs.

Problem is bad lineups. Al sucks and Hawks swarm Lin because the 2nd unit are all scrubs minus Lin.

    • cshot

i think he would’ve gotten blocked if he took that one! but yes i do agree, he needs to let it fly more

    • BUZZCITY17

Kemba is hogging all the possessions..shoot more Lin!

    • real-dsb

Lin already 5th in PT for Hornets

    • zxcvb

      And go 0-5? No thanks.

    • Papillon

One great positive change from last year: Lin tried to put up the shot as soon as he got fouled!

    • real-dsb

that’s what he wants ATL to think

    • devin23

and people want him to start? Starting lineup goes through kemba, batum, al, like it or not..

    • Rzo Vlade

call a jj redick play for jlin

    • LW

My daughter is watching the game and asks me why they never pass the ball to Lin.

    • stam

Only thing is Lin is hesitant to shoot or the defense is good on him.

    • real-dsb

2q246 Lin with the veteran move to launch a shot as he was being fouled to get FTs

    • real-dsb

      2p246 Lin makes both FTs

    • zxcvb

      Lin’s efficiency is LINSANE.

    • zxcvb

Batum can’t play SG. And Al sucks…even when he scores.

    • real-dsb

2q230 Kemba bring the ball up

    • I really want ATL announcers to eat their words.. “JLin not so quick, good first step”

    • real-dsb

2q210 aw, Lin did not convert his patented reverse layup

    • real-dsb

      2q140 Kam teardrop!

    • zxcvb

They already have! Lin destroyed ATL and Teague 4 times before…no difference.

Wilkins even gets mocked by Hawks fans for being idiotic and illiterate.

    • KL

I am beginning to laugh at Wilkins. I think he is obsessed with Jeremy.

    • real-dsb

2q130 Lin nice spin move recovery after screen, got ATL to get traveling call!

    • GoJLin!

Al is 1-8 with 2 pts, Lin 0-1 with 4 pts; and Al refuse to pass to Lin while Lin is open, not nice.

    • Papillon

He is the ATL version of Clyde Drexler

    • zxcvb

Get them dimes tonight, Jeremy. Buckets will come in the 2nd half.

    • real-dsb

2q107 Lin penetration ast to Al

    • zxcvb

      Even worse, though.

    • Guest

      Lin’s right-hand is still hurting…looks like it

    • Papillon

      Dimes and free throws!

    • Michael

      Drexler in a Wilkins costume.

    • real-dsb

2q030 Kam with major brick, Al follow LOL

    • zxcvb

This is what makes Lin ELITE. Hawks swarm him 100% of the time and he still gets the lead…until Batum’s idiocy.

    • Alain Gervais

batum got tunnel vision there. a lot of sticky hands again

    • LW

      Batum sucks!

    • real-dsb

2q002 Aww, Batum with very bad TO, leading to breakaway layup

    • stam

Cause he wanted to play PG thats why.

    • Rick Johnson

      Batum should have passed that!!

    • IsabeliJane*17

Freakin’ everybody except Jeremy trying to be PG.. and getting stripped.

    • zxcvb

Batum is totally overwhelmed at SG. Thabo stealing the ball at will.

    • LAJane

Batum being a big shot…got poked.

    • yeah I saw Ballstream comments mocking Wilkins

    • Briiick

Here is the downside of ball handling by the bigs, not all of them are Pipon.

    • Papillon

Seriously Batum has been very nonchalant handling the ball and receiving the pass as well: standing in place as opposed to moving towards the passer.

    • stam

Lin should have shot the 3 from Kemba instead of getting a blocked attempt

    • cshot

batum needs to stop trying to handle the ball lol. i respect everything else about his game, but he seriously dribbles like guys i play at the YMCA

    • Briiick

How many TOs by him already ?

    • kjch

      Batum!!!!! So frustrating

    • zxcvb

Lin playing well if you understand basketball. Not forcing things, getting to the line. Not TOs or PFs. Game would be a lead if not for godawful Batum and Al.

    • yes.. ball movement lacks a lot to be desired..
should be zipping to 1-2 people quickly

    • real-dsb

      At the half, Lin with

      14 min, 4 pts, 0-2 fg, 0-1 3pt, 4-4 ft, 1 reb, 3 ast, 1 stl, 0 tov, +1

He played decent. As usually, looking to get his teammates involved early, hasn’t taken many shots.

    • Singapore BB Fan

wow Batum bringing the ball up and JLin stays in the corner…coaching error?

    • Briiick

Agreed. Lin is the chess master here.

    • Papillon

Exactly. Take what they give you!

    • real-dsb

batum 4 tovs in first half

    • yes, he’s being a good PG to find open people & takes what he gets

    • real-dsb

      correct

    • stam

      4 to

    • zxcvb

Player error. Batum has been trash so far and he wanted to hog for himself.

    • heart

Twice, Batum made critical turnovers to allow Hawks lead instead of Hornets.

    • LAJane

Rather…I think Batum will hear about it from coach!

    • Michael

I don’t think Batum is handling the ball cause he wants to show people he can play Point F, the coach wants him to learn how to do it. He just doesn’t have the awareness to play that way, at least not yet.

    • Hope

Khuang = Charlotte remote virtual coach. I saw his dream lineup missing Tyler.

    • Riddick

Isn’t he the ‘sharing’ pg/sg/pf? lol

    • KL

The Hornets are not moving the ball fast enough. Lin could have had several 3 point shots if they would just swing the ball to him.

    • stam

absolutely and i think it’s because he tried to bring up the ball both times. the coach needs to tell him to STOP now

    • Alain Gervais

Batum has half of hornets TOV

    • sws94

I think LIn needs to step it up. As a PG, he didn’t look good. Don’t know why he looks tentative now and not using his step back jumper. He featured that a lot during the preseason and he needs to not get stuck when he’s PG and direct traffic.

    • Alain Gervais

      Sticky ball again

    • Briiick

This Batum 1 guard experiment is getting uglier every game, reminding me that McHale used Parsons to help Haren’s not so brilliant ball handling.

    • KL

Lin is adapting. It should be better for the 2nd half.

    • KHuang

      TROLL FLAGGED.

    • real-dsb

he usually tries to get teammates involved first. he will start taking shots and his stepback jumper if teammates are not converting

    • MoominFloren

Maybe I’m too sensitive…it looks like Walker is not too willing to pass Lin the ball….
Anyway, the team moves a lot better tonight.

Lin pls shoot a few more, I voted 21pts this game 🙂

    • heart

He’s allowed by Coach to initiate offense and handle the ball in transition.

    • LAJane

I guess that could be. I feel like Clifford has been giving a lot of rope and challenging them to step it up. Plus it makes it easier for him to get his preferred lineup later if it’s clear he’s already handed out the chances

    • Rzo Vlade

clifford should call a play for jj redick

    • Riddick

It’s starting to look like he//coach/Char wants him to be haren. smh

    • Alain Gervais

Its game of adjustments. lets see what the Hornets adjustments are.

    • David Ly

I’m just happy Lin got to play 14 min and stayed in the whole time without getting subbed out. I was worried when he checked in at the 2 min mark in the 1st quarter.

    • stam

It seems that way a bit too but Lin hasn’t been taking any 3’s, instead driving in, and walker is losing assists.

    • guest

      Defense loaded on Lin?

    • Alain Gervais

They look like a team playing their first few games together

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Lin is getting starter minutes.

    • joyce ward

Hello, lin ain’t playing point, it’s all about batum.

    • LAJane

      big time

    • TTNN

what is it the last play Batum was holding on the ball without pass it forward to Lin and lost it, that’s just not acceptable.

    • stam

He needs to get back slapped by the coach for that

    • guest

Lin looks good to me in this game, actually

    • zxcvb

Batum is a horrible ballhandler, but they want to make him into Lebron. His baskets come from wide-open shots someone else created and his attempts to pass result in TOs. He’s also given up 20 pts by himself, Harden style, getting blown by every single Hawk and my 81yo grandmother.

    • Singapore BB Fan

Hornets spacing problem…players are not moving…JLin and Kemba can’t get to rim with ATL closing the lanes

    • guest

That explains why Kemba isnt pasisng to Lin

    • Riddick

He forgot his own ‘I’m a team player.’ motto.

    • KHuang

      HATE TROLL FLAGGED

Go ahead, Adminstration. BAN ME and protect the hate trolls.

    • Briiick

Hornets should just admit that Batum is an excellent one year rental at 3 and move on !

    • John Focker

There’s a reason Hawks and Heat are top EC teams: their coaches know who they REALLY need to stop. Karl’s not the only one who knows who the engine/motor is.

    • real-dsb

      Batum with team high 12 pts, 5-5 fg, 1-1 3pt, 1 ast, 4 tov.

I think he should stop playing PG and just shoot the ball!

    • Hope

Lin plays well. Look good without a field goal

    • guest

      so true!

    • zxcvb

Yep. That’s the problem with Lin leading the 2nd unit.

The 2nd unit stinks, so you just load up on Lin. Not rocket science except for MJ and Cho.

    • LAJane

What tentative! He’s slammed the deck a half-dozen times, grabbed loose balls, muscling off the double and triple teams. He may be setting up teammates in a way you don’t like, but tentative is not in his universe.

    • Alain Gervais

Its 2 games right?? We’ve played 2 games.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Kaminsky is getting lots of confidence back today.

    • GoJLin!

But when he is open, Al still did not pass to Lin.

    • zxcvb

He’s never played SG in his entire life. And yet, after a career worst year and injuries, the Hornets want to make him into a SG. So idiotic. Maybe Boozer should become a SF!

    • guest

      Yes!

    • stam

      3 assists by Lin 🙂

    • Michael

Good eyes (or amazing sense of smell)

    • Briiick

Watching these slow big players handle the ball and get stolen just hurts my eyes !

    • sws94

      I don’t think he’s playing well.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

      He’s a little grumpy.

    • guest

      Al doesnt pass to anybody

    • golfhacker

      Al doesn’t pass to anybody!

    • Alain Gervais

also stop comparing players lin is playing with to previous player he played with. sounds a bit ptsd.

    • David Kim

Did Batum guard opponent SG today?

    • Singapore BB Fan

      polished rookie…should get more PT

    • sport

Lin’s playing bad, not 1 field goal made right now with all 4 pts from Fts. Really needs to take some shots in 2nd half.

    • Jeremiah (the Grey)

I vaguely remember someone posting a comment today that said: The problem is Batum
      Who posted that? I’ll kill’em

    • LAJane

      Skipper’s got a point.

    • Alain Gervais

He is trying its definitely not a good match up for him

    • guest

      YOU!!!

    • Alain Gervais

      2 games

    • heart

You mean does opponent guard him. Batum seems to get lots of open shots.

    • David Ly

I think Batum wants to be like Klay Thompson (a tall shooting guard) with some playmaking ability. The difference is that Klay plays within his means and doesn’t try to handle the ball wrecklessly in the open court.

    • IsabeliJane*17

I don’t think Batum is the problem. Playing Batum WAY OUT of his natural position is the problem

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Batum is shooting 5 out 5 too; how is he being a trash?
      Calm down.

    • guest

ATL’s playing small and they well. Why can’t the Hornets?

    • Alain Gervais

I agree with this. its a challenge for him no doubt especially if teams go small.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

Some just don’t like he play SG position.

    • David Kim

maybe his agent for next big contract

    • zxcvb

Politics. Al, Batum, Kemba and Hairston are MJ/Cho acquisitions. They must start at all costs.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      4 points & 2 shots.

    • takemeback2reaganyears

It was last game but this game he’s almost half way to triple double.

    • Alain Gervais

Yea i know. Just remember he is on a new team and system so there will be rough patches

    • real-dsb

score at the half: CHA 52, ATL 53. Despite uneven play by CHA, they are hanging in there with ATL at ATL.

    • guest

they are sunk costs. hornets need to move on in order to win!

    • CJSHYY
    • IsabeliJane*17

Want next big contract? Then play him as a 3 where he’s a natural at, not as swing forward who is getting stripped by players smaller than him.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

I think they are doing their jobs right。
They came back at 2nd Qtr。

    • Alain Gervais

To give credit to coach he said he plays the same guys at the same time no matter what. He did so by not keeping lamb in instead of Lin.

    • joyce ward

      Hopefully Clifford will make adjustments.

    • John Focker

In a fire sale, I’d get rid of 3/4, keeping only Batum.

    • Briiick

A player just has got to know his limitation.
      ———Clint Eastwood

    • zxcvb

I agree. He’s great glue guy SF. But he sucks at SG. As KHuang says, Batum has no moves off the dribble.

He’s a catch and shoot, pinpoint pass to cutters/shooters player.

    • real-dsb

      PT in 1st half:

      kemba 17
      Batum 15
      marv 15
      al 14
      lin 14
      hawes 10
      zeller 9
      kam 9
      lamb 9
      hairston 7

    • kjch

Yeah but also seems like kemba and batum are more selfish than usual~ from my sort of objective point of view lol

    • Alain Gervais

      ?????

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      What are you talking, Charlie?

    • occupatio

that abbreviation is really unclear. its clearer just to say minutes instead of PT (playing time) which looks like Points.

    • real-dsb

      3q12 same as starting lineup

    • real-dsb

3q1130 kemba drives and draws foul on schroder

    • zxcvb

BTW, Dragic is 1-7 with 2pts tonight after 8/6 last game. 99% of casual fans and even lots of Lin fans think Dragic is better than Lin. But he’s way worse then Lin when he’s put in a similar situation.

    • John Focker

Jeremy no TOs, and no PFs. Can afford to be aggressive in 2nd half.

    • grover chang

He seems to be swarmed with every drive.

    • zxcvb

Yep. I expect him to attack all through the 4th. If he doesn’t, it means his teammates froze him out or he just missed his shots (and that’s on him).

    • real-dsb

3q1120 Hairston draws charge. (i’m not sure he was set before teague started upward motion)

    • Alain Gervais

Horford is a beast down low. i didn’t know this

    • real-dsb

3q1040 oh dear, terrible TOV by batum =(

    • real-dsb

      3q930 teague midrange jumper

    • David Kim

defense will be problem but he can shoot better in front of smaller players.

    • real-dsb

    • kauaiblue

      This is boring…

    • Rzo Vlade

hairston sucks put lamb out there

    • guest

      overrated much?

    • CaliUSMC

are u doing this for every possession?

    • Riddick

That’s putting it nicely. Well, we’ll see if Cliff wants to win or hype batum.

    • real-dsb

3q850 batum hits long 2 (6 in inside 3pt line)

    • John Focker

Hairston now 2/10 from Heat to Hawks…

    • real-dsb

      3q815 kemba missed uncontested 3

Batum long two worst shot in the universe on this side of the milky way.

      Walker’s pretty active on defense

    • LAJane

So much work to get one shot off.

    • Briiick

No one is getting open when your ball handler is Batum or Walker.

    • kauaiblue

      Hows he doing??

    • stam

AGAIN batum’s pass almost lead to TO.

    • real-dsb

3q557 great offensive rebound by marv for layup!

not necessarily every possession, just whenever I get a chance

    • kauaiblue

So batum is now the pg?? Lol

    • Briiick

Opponents don’t double team them at all, daring them to shoot.

    • John Focker

Batum the PG with 5TOs, Al the big has 4/12 shooting…It’s amazing the Hornets are 1 up!

    • real-dsb

batum on pace for triple double: pts reb tovs

The Hornets is killing the Hawks on the board.
      That stinks the hawks.

    • real-dsb

that’s why they say preseason doesn’t count for much

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Are you serious? Seriously!

All revert back to last season style of play.

    • Briiick

Remind me when Lin is on the court.

    • kauaiblue

      Where our guy??

    • IsabeliJane*17

I’m cringing seeing the bigs camping at the 3 point line. No one banging on the inside.

    • Papillon

Some grow the fruits, yet pick the rotten ones

    • CaliUSMC

      BATUM – 6TO

If MJ, RC and the Hornets refuse to cut loss and let go of non-productive players, no matter whom they sign, the team won’t go far

    • real-dsb

3q330 batum is a very good rebounder

    • GoJLin!

    • real-dsb

Walker must be wondering is Batum PG or me?

    • Jeremiah (the Grey)

I suspect that it’s Batum who wants to be a SG.

    • real-dsb

3q254 timeout. hope to see Lin in for rest of game

    • heart

      Yep, turrible…

    • Briiick

Wasn’t it the purpose of trading for Batum ?

    • John Focker

Walker’s average PG, Batum is terrible PG. Politics suck.

    • BUZZCITY17

Lin being used like in Houston

    • GoJLin!

If Lin is not in to close the game now, his min will be bad.

    • occupatio

lin hasnt set foot on court in this quarter. cliff let them play…

    • LW

Hornets got no shooter, missing all those open 3’s. I am beginning to agree with the assessment they won’t make the playoffs.

    • cshot

Batum…was he like this in Portland?

    • Riddick

      Sitting…it’s batum’s game.

    • John Focker

This is why I’m SUPER careful with my money now. Still haven’t bought Int’l League Pass.

    • heart

Opposite. To keep him, he allows TO. This reminds of Harden’s TO.

    • real-dsb

      3q Lin in!

Dominique Wilkins – ” if you pressure Lin.. he will turn the ball over…”

    • kauaiblue

      Shiot the ball#

    • Papillon

I think he’ll be in now and play 14 minutes straight, closing out the game. He’ll finish with 29 minutes.

    • David Kim

He was 4th or 5th option in offense

    • IsabeliJane*17

      No. He was a 3, not a 1.

    • John Focker

Never mind Batum’s 6TOs, dog the guy who has NONE.

    • LAJane

Not doing so good tonight. Personally, I think Lin isn’t in mostly to give these guys a chance to fully experience all their weaknesses. Coach knows what Lin can do, and knows Lin knows what to do. Let the other guys stagger around…plenty of video to analyze 🙂 Better to get it done early in the season rather than let it fester.

    • blubell

They only want to focus on Jermey’s TO smh.

    • LW

Lin picks up his dribble way too many times this game.

    • occupatio

      i was thinking same thing

    • CaliUSMC

He said 14/9 nullifies the TO’s

    • real-dsb

lineup is now hawes, zeller marv batum lin

    • John Focker

Yes, but Lin has NONE. Why dog on someone about TOs when he doesn’t even have any?

    • Michael

They switched and Zeller had the mismatch but couldn’t establish himself on someone several inches shorter, then even worse brings his defender into Lin as Lin goes to the corner. Just a series of bad plays.

    • real-dsb

      preseason doesn’t much much

    • occupatio

as i said earlier, lin is playing scared.

    • JT

lin, now is not the time to defer….its time to carry, unless you want to go down on the sinking ship as well

    • CaliUSMC

Prob reading it off the scouting report. I doubt he knows Lin’s game.

    • LAJane

why bring Wilkins’ diarrhea over here. Turn off the sound.

    • guest

Is Lin feeling bad about scoring and hence he just wants to set up his teammates and not shooting?

    • zxcvb

First bad quarter by Lin. ATL is swarming him, but he should do what he did in the 1st half — get to the FT line.

4Q is Lin’s quarter and he’s mad by now. Show us what you got, Jeremy!

    • Lam

lets see whether clifford pulls lin in.

    • Promo Sports World

Trolls are out here like lord of the rings

    • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Lin and Batum have combined for 10 turnovers….Sad to see such a bad game.

    • Alain Gervais

      Batum has been worse.

    • cshot

cmon jeremy! keep your head up

    • John Focker

The main reason Lin’s not doing well is because @Dinoneseus:disqus is awake. We should always drug him before the game from now on.

    • real-dsb

Here’s a test for Clifford: pull Lin due to a few TOVs? or have faith in him and keep him to close the game?

    • kauaiblue

I dont like wilkins anymore… he keeps trashing jeremy

    • Alain Gervais

      thats always been him

    • CaliUSMC

As much as I idolized him growing up.. he is getting on my nerves..

    • occupatio

he has always trashed jeremy. the difference tonight is jeremy made his comments look reasonable.

    • LW

Lin is not himself this game for some reason. He should be pulled.

    • kjch

Commentator said Lin’s been a turnover machine…. Sadly have to agree

    • Alain Gervais

      Come on Lin find something

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Wake up Mr. 4Q

    • Bearness

Why does Lin keep picking up his dribble? Not playing his game….

    • LAJane

But we have our Gandalf mods! 🙂

    • Nonono

      Lin hesitates too much!!!!

    • zxcvb

He always trashed Jeremy. Lin has destroyed the Hawks every game, so he’s out for blood

    • real-dsb

4q1150 oh dear Hawes 5 pf

    • Michael

Either he suddenly forgot how to keep his dribble alive or his teammates are not where they are supposed to be.

Folks are on this board losing their marbles…Jeremy has always been like a roller coaster….nothing new

    • CaliUSMC

be careful… you will be labeled as a ‘troll’.

    • real-dsb

      4q1038 Lamb airball 3

    • CaliUSMC

Then you should be used to the roller coaster comments lol. It is what it is.

    • Alain Gervais

The units we have out there are terrible. No space at all.

    • Bearness

      oh really

    • occupatio

thats why he got to shoot the 3. to make space

    • Hornets interior D is pretty bad. Can’t allow layup like that

    • zxcvb

Yep. Any smart coach knows that Lin must be swarmed. And the starters are garbage no matter what.

    • blubell

      YOu’re fine.

    • John Focker

There should really be a stat for drawing/taking charges. Players use their basketball IQ and put their bodies on the line, but get ZERO credit for it. It’s a BIG part of defense that’s been largely ignored.

    • IsabeliJane*17

No spacing.. no set plays.. atrocious playing Batum as SG/PG.. atrocious interior defense

    • Alain Gervais

That would be iso. not good offense

    • yes, that’s true.. Lin can shoot 3s or attack the rim to get FTs

    • guest

This clearly shows that if not plays made for Lin, the team can’t win even though plays are made for other players, no?

    • Promo Sports World

Jeremy’s inconsistency has always been about spacing….no shooters no PnR Jeremy will look lost…been like that for years

    • BobbyH

      atrocious in every aspects?

    • IsabeliJane*17

Bottom line, yes atrocious in all aspects.

    • real-dsb

      4q1027 somehow Zeller is -26 ??

    • occupatio

thats the generous take on it. it could just as well be said that teams think that liin will cough the ball up if they swarm him.
its not necessarily about respect — its disrespect. and lin has not punished them for playing him so tight.
he has coughed up the b all.

    • zxcvb

All this is caused by not starting Lin.

Without Lin, the starters have no room. With only Lin,the 2nd unit is all about Lin. So easy to defend.

    • BUZZCITY17

I thought this was supposed to be the Lin breaks out.. what happened?

    • BUZZCITY17

Kemba just plays with so much confidence.. something that Lin lacks

    • BUZZCITY17

Why did Lin get that haircut if he’s going to play with no confidence?

    • zxcvb

Lin played well in the first half, took what they gave him. Second half? He was passive and too unselfish.

Lineups are the problem, but Lin has to learn for the next game.

    • Bearness

Hairston has been playing like a starter so he’s starting, right?

    • Noono

Lin needs to learn from walker!!! Shot first , if not open, then pass

    • BUZZCITY17

Because getting that outrageous haircut symbolizes Lin is confident in hiimself.. so he needs to show it on the court

    • CJSHYY

      What’s wrong w Lin today?

    • zxcvb

Hawks swarmed him with double and triple teams every touch.

And in the 2nd half, he was too passive and unselfish (constantly pushing others to shoot).

    • IsabeliJane*17

Symbolizes for Jeremy himself or symbolizes for you? Again, what and where is the logic.

    • zxcvb

Lin back in…Clifford is a great coach. Benched him to make a point and then put him back in.

    • Uh-Oh

      Agree!

    • Briiick

      Good.

    • Riddick

Yup, it’s starting to look a lot like Lin’s previous seasons. Not surprised really. Should be bloody obvious if this continues in the next few games

    • Credit Coach Clifford for putting Lin back in although he was struggling
Hope Lin can get lots of FTs

    • sport

Lin plays the best when he’s looking to shoot first and pass second. Not sure why he doesn’t know that by now. He was fine when he was SG for this team looking to score first. This game he’s playing more PG and it looks awful.

    • zxcvb

      “Stop being nice and attack!”

    • blubell

      I hope so!

    • CJSHYY

      He’s passing again.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Keep shooting 3s。 What more you can lose?

    • Bearness

Wow. At least he just proved he is different than previous coaches.

    • LAJane

Trolls are partial to spikes 🙂

    • zxcvb

He sees what Lin is doing. Defense is loading up on him and Lin is too unselfish.

    • Martin Tsang

With the last two games, it just seems Charlotte team misses alot of easy buckets. Forget the wide open 3s, just short range 2s and in the paint.

    • Hope

What if Buzz comes back and wins.

    • devin23

Haven’t seen Lin shoot a single jump shot besides that 3 pointer…

    • kjch

Think coach should give Tyler a go

    • blubell

      assist!

    • David Kim

When Lin plays with second unit, he gets lots of double team and defense focused on him.
When Lin plays with first unit, he can play better because defense is not focused on him too much.

    • blubell

      Mr. 4th quarter!

    • Alain Gervais

      333333333

    • zxcvb

      LIn 33333

      THANK U CLIFFORD

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Hurray What a come back!

    • Lin for 3333333333333333 DEEEEEP 3333333!

    • occupatio

      yes. finally shot the 3

    • sport

      Probably to calm him down.

    • blubell

      Much more aggressive now!

    • Alain Gervais

      What a day!!!!

    • zxcvb

MJ and Cho are keeping Lin out of the starting lineup.

Clifford is 100% in Lin’s corner. He proved it tonight,

    • Promo Sports World

Safety is there with a coach

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      two 3s and 6 points difference。
      The best back court wins!

    • LAJane

Dunno why some of you assume Lin is “too unselfish”. It seems quite possible to me that it’s coach’s strategy to use Jeremy as the “training” glue to this re-forming team. He may have quite specific duties in this regard. We don’t like it, but things could look very different a few games down the road.

    • BUZZCITY17

      FINALLY LIN!

    • JJ Hui

      Mr. clutch 3!

    • Michael

      Yes! Mr. 5th quarter.

    • sport

OMG finally a 3!!! and Lin’s first made field goal lol.

    • BUZZCITY17

      ABOUT TIME LIN!!!!!

    • Papillon

The difference between Clifford and McHale:

McHale would pull Lin for making errors, like turnovers.
Clifford pulled Lin for not playing “Lin’s game”: aggressive attacking basketball
Jeremy was just thinking too much out there. He just plays way too tentatively when he’s in that mode.

    • BUZZCITY17

      FINALLY LIN!

    • Michael

      Say something Wilkins! lol

    • BUZZCITY17

      THIS IS LIN WE KNOW!!!!

    • Hope

      Jlin 6 pts play

    • devin23

He has to prove he can consistently play at a high level, regardless of whether he’s starting or 6th man. Def credit clifford tho. He sticks with his rotation, not the hot hand.

    • Papillon

      J3R3MY!!!

    • BUZZCITY17

THIS IS THE LIN WE ALL COME TO LOVE! YOU NEED TO PLAY LIKE THIS EVERY SECOND EVERY MINUTE LIN

    • Bearness

      Are you predicting OT? LOL

    • occupatio

wilkins is like tinman. obsessed with lin

    • kjch

Did Not expect Clifford to sub Lin back. What an awesome coach

    • blubell

      Sure… for more stats? lol.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Talking about 4 outs and 1 in.
      Take it Hawks!
      Hornets is buzzing.
It’s a road game. but they fight back.

    • blubell

      No need to all cap….

    • David Kim

Hornets should start this line up. looks totally different team…

    • Martin Tsang

didnt he just say something nice? “Nice drive and kick to marvin williams?”

    • blubell

      Creepy…

    • Kwok Wai Lai

This is the starting lineup that Clifford should use.

    • zxcvb

BTW, Lin has 9p on 4 FGA. This is in an “awful game.”

    • occupatio

its so he can balance out his hater comments.

    • BUZZCITY17

Russel Westbrook stat line: 47 pts 11rb 8 ast just wow

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Hawks are hitting panic buttons.

    • LAJane

When you ask a guy to sacrifice for teammates learning to gel, when you are a stand-up coach like Clifford, you reward them with some leash-free time.

    • blubell

He has always criticizing every little thing Jeremy does.

    • Nonono

The coach is nice to Lin enough. Trust! Lin finally shows up!

    • zxcvb

Missed the shots but good aggression.

    • Papillon

Wow, Jefferson actually passed out of the post!!!

    • IsabeliJane*17

And what is your point of putting RWB’s stats here?

    • Papillon

Take that open shot! Don’t be afraid to miss

    • occupatio

      thank you marvin
      !!!!!

    • Michael

Jefferson so slow on defensive rotations = =

    • blubell

      Close game.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Damn! what a come back~

    • zxcvb

Yep. Even Curry missed 5 shots in a row during his 40pt game.

    • Papillon

      One possession game!

    • Acbc

You should just follow Westbrook and leave Lin alone, since he sucks anyways. Why trouble us with you’re negativity?

    • blubell

      not anymore 🙁

    • Papillon

Wilkins has been criticizing Lin’s defense all game long. Can’t wait to see Lin make a massive defensive stop soon.

    • David Kim

if hornets started this line up, they can win easily..

    • blubell

      333333333333333333

    • Alain Gervais

      33333

    • occupatio

      lin sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • zxcvb

      LIN 333333

    • stam

      YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

    • JJ Hui

I really dont like Al , selfish iso and never kick out the ball even Lin is open!

    • Michael

      Don’t tempt me….arrr

    • Alain Gervais

      omfgOMFGO

    • sport

OMG finally another 3 for 12 pts.

    • sport

      Counter Jinx?

    • Promo Sports World

      Safety matters

    • Acbc

It’s nice when do love him, but man the hate from you stinks.

    • stam

Shoot they almost had this game..

    • Alain Gervais

How did lin score 12 ???????

    • zxcvb

      Lucky bounce by ATL.

Another game LOST by not starting Lin. Lin is 10X better — and so is Kemba — when he starts.

    • sport

Old school player needs to be traded.

    • zxcvb

Coach Cliff! Believes in Lin…only benches him to make a point (stop being nice and attack!).

    • blubell

      by not giving up…

    • devin23

Huge props for cliff to still let lin play the 4th after 3 mediore quarters. Lin delivered in the 4th.

    • David Kim

      Start lin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Alain Gervais

      yep

    • Alain Gervais

      ….yep

    • zxcvb

Okay, I love Coach Cliff. He benched Lin…and put him back in. And then Lin attacked, make or miss.

    • stam

Absolutely, he didn’t give up on Lin.

    • John Focker

What took you so long?! LOL

    • stam

Lin should have been shooting earlier though.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

This is a road game and the Hornets showed character coming back.
Win or loss; the team becomes together.
Zeller doesn’t have a good game and old Jeff can’t deliver. What else can you do?

    • Lam

yes, the only positive from this game is Clifford.

    • IsabeliJane*17

      Start Jeremy as 2

Would probably better as a swingman for second unit. Get a “dummy” PG for second unit.He can set up plays as SG anyway.

    • Acbc

Go back to sleep you troll, lol

    • Alain Gervais

      What an intense game

    • occupatio

wow tearing my hair out. that was crazy

    • zxcvb

Nice aggression by Lin…missed the layup tho.

    • Alain Gervais

      My heart …my poor heart

    • stam

      was he fouled?

    • zxcvb

No room in the 1st half. But yes, he was timid and too unselfish in the 2nd half.

    • blubell

      mine too… lol

    • occupatio

      i didnt think so

    • David Kim

Why Hornets always have to catch up if there is a way to win easily…..

      Start Lin!!!!!!!

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Credit should go to Clifford! win or loss doesn;’t matter/ It builds character.

    • stam

damn wish he made that in man it would have been awesome!

    • zxcvb

Lightly, but most players won’t get those fouls in crunch time.

      No complaints from me.

    • Papillon

Walker seemed to have gotten fouled twice prior to that though

    • golfhacker

We have a “dummy” PG – Brian Roberts.

    • Alain Gervais

      No

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Zeller comes back .

    • Michael

Even though it was a bit frantic.. I like the way everyone was passing to the open man.

    • stam

      I hope he misses damn!!!

    • occupatio

on replay, it was a clean steal

    • Michael

Oh come on that was not a foul.

    • zxcvb

      Plz OT.

    • IsabeliJane*17

How was that clean steal a foul???

    • zxcvb

Lin was DWA (Defending While Asian).

    • occupatio

      cuz asian man

    • Papillon

      Looked like a clean steal

    • blubell

What michael calls 5th quarter. lol.

    • stam

      yep…

    • Papillon

      Need a 3 here!

    • Michael

Hahaha you hit the asian with the hammer…or whatever that saying is.

    • devin23

I think he only took lin out momentarily to give him some pep talk.

    • blubell

      ouch…

    • occupatio

      wow 7 TOs

    • IsabeliJane*17

Guy needs some burn for 2nd unit, along with Jeremy.

    • I am The Jason

      SMH Batum

    • zxcvb

God, how long can they keep starting Hairston.

CHA 0-2 because they refuse to start Lin.

    • occupatio

      that was disgusting.

    • kauaiblue

      What was that?

    • stam

I’m really upset they stole the steal from lin.. and caused them to lose the game, it’s always the refs man

    • Acbc

Trust is a two way street. We’ve all had PTSD from the last 3 years. Can you imagine how much more intense that fear is in Lin? With this trust from cliff, Lin should feel more confident in his status and not have to constantly look over his shoulder.

The lost today was well worth this vote of confidence from his coach and it bodes well for Lin to feel much more confident.

    • sport

Batum can’t play SG or PG! This experiment needs to stop!!

    • your son’s voltaire

      Batum stepped out of bounds

    • BUZZCITY17

Bad pass by Lin to be honest

    • zxcvb

Lin had a subpar game and he’s still +2.

Stop holding the team back, MJ and Cho. If you guys want to insult a “subservient” Asian, insult Cho.

    • occupatio

and thats not the first time the team could not inbound a pass correctly. they need to practice that…its embarrassing.

    • Alain Gervais

It was the only pass option. Bad set by cliff

    • Riddick

      lmao!

    • zxcvb

BTW, I actually sympathize with Cho. If I were him, I’d be worried about being mocked/fired for supporting “my own.”

    • occupatio

wow two pro teams being very un pro

    • blubell

      OT please!

    • Papillon

That’s a bit harsh on the only Asian American GM in major league sports

    • Briiick

Batum should ask for a stop himself, tell them he is a rental or his stats will be ruined along with Hornets.

    • zxcvb

Another close loss where Lin and the whole team played better with him, Kemba and Batum.

    • sport

      Please OT

    • zxcvb

      Lin 3? Please, haha.

    • Hope

      Wow

    • occupatio

batum with the vet jersey grab haha

    • John Focker

      That WOULD reignite Linsanity!

    • IsabeliJane*17

I think Cho should consider looking at how a multi-national team like Spurs was built. Race didn’t matter. Skills do.

    • sport

Set up Lin for 3 please…

    • Papillon

Hornets get a “free” timeout thanks to the replay

    • Papillon

      Come on, miracle 3!

    • blubell

      CLutch 3? please? lol

    • zxcvb

That’s my point. It would look “bad” supporting the only Asian-American player in the NBA.

    • Michael

One of the refs is wearing a 23, he should cut Jordans team some slack.

    • blubell

      Of course, Kemba…

    • zxcvb

Lin should have shot the 3…best 3pt shooter on the team.

    • Alain Gervais

      Wrong guy for that three

    • Alain Gervais

Im guessing Hawks left him open on purpose

    • I am The Jason

Walker taking the last shot for a three????? WHY!!!!!!!

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Hornets made this game respectable.
      What a come back!
Everybody should know what should be the starting lineup for the Hornets!

    • forestorteal

Why do you only comment negatively on Lin and not on the other players? To be honest, interesting…

    • occupatio

cuz he knows their inbound plays better than lin.
lin is also prretty inexperienced at that.

    • sport

Hornets will continue to lose so long as Lin doesn’t start, I’m serious.

    • Alain Gervais

First 3 and a haIf quarter felt like the usual and then the un expected happened. Lins coach trusted him.

    • John Focker

Kemba now 2/9 from behind the arc, while Lin’s 4/7. Sure, let’s give it to Kemba.

    • zxcvb

Another close game lost where Lin & Kemba together dominated the other team.

      NO MORE POLITICS.

    • Lam

well.. at least rockets are in the process of being crushed. Some consolation.

    • I am The Jason

Walker is a horrible 3pt shooter

    • David Kim

      No Lin start No win

    • BobbyH

      it is 12M vs 2M

    • occupatio

      haha lol.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

I don’t like your name but your comment is OK with me.

    • Hope

They really need to start Lin walker Batum

    • Rick Johnson

Batum doesn’t seem to play the 2 very well.

    • occupatio

      haha true

    • golfhacker

Why did dribble left and do a fadeaway? He had straight-away 3pt look.

    • Singapore BB Fan

      haha….finding comfort in others misery…ok I’ll take that too…

    • BUZZCITY17

Well thats it folks! Lin had a terrible game through 3 quarters but finally turned his game on in the 4th.. but too bad it was too little too late at that point.. next time he needs to start strong and finish even stronger

    • Alain Gervais

No the hawks left him open rather then datum,Lin,kimensky, or even marvin. Good hawk defense

    • blubell

      Trust the coach.

    • John Focker

I don’t care if it’s 20M vs 2M, the three either goes in or it doesn’t.

    • BobbyH

      Politics cares

    • CJSHYY

Thanks to the coach benched him for 1 min? smh! Lin always had passive game once a while & that’s really bad for him.

    • Martin Tsang

lin isnt as quick as release as walker maybe off the dribble.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      They are road games!
This is going to be a good lesson for the team!
      Nobody gives up!!!!!!

    • zxcvb

Kemba is the incumbent. Also, Lin got a late play run for him and he’s missed it, although he got the rebound and led to a bucket.

    • BobbyH

I hope Clifford told Lin in 2Q to step up and shoot. Too late in 4Q to wake up.

    • blubell

Good thing Jeremy never gives up 🙂

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Finally you said the magic words.

    • IsabeliJane*17

Coach Clifford is a breath of fresh air as Jeremy’s coach after D’Antoni. Trusted him even if he was struggling last 3 quarters. Wears better suits than McHale and Byron Scott too.

My only complaint is why insist having Batum as an SG/swingman. Batum would have worked as an SF, helped in clearing the boards.

    • John Focker

BOTH Rox and Lakers are being crushed. I’m finding some joy in that…

    • Papillon

The recipe so far these first 2 games:
      1) Start the wrong lineup
      2) try to compensate with in-game adjustments
      3) allow the opposition to build a huge lead
      4) bring in the “true” starting lineup in the 4th
      5) watch them mount a valiant comeback
      6) lose a close game in the end

    • zxcvb

I do! I love Cliff! I don’t trust MJ and Cho. They think Kemba, Al and Hairston are better than Lin.

    • golfhacker

Bonehead turnover by Batum at end of half bit us in the azz.

    • Michael

      And …. Al?

    • Alain Gervais

The Hornet barley won 2 games in which they were out played for 3 quarters

    • John Focker

      TurnoverS.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Yeah! They at least have Roberts & Lamb, as the backup.

    • I am The Jason

And the Kings are spanking the Lakers. Game of the night is Thunder/Magic.

    • zxcvb

All of his TOs were awful. Selfish TOs above the FT line leading to easy buckets/FTs.

When Lin makes TOs, it’s in the teeth of the defense and/or trying to be unselfish by force-feeding teammates.

    • Singapore BB Fan

Watching Hornets games is like watching a good ending movie…but just a little short of perfect ending…80 games to rectify their errors and build upon the last 2 losses..

    • golfhacker

Agreed, way too many TOs, but that one before halftime was inexcusable.

    • Papillon

Completely agree. Batum is not quick enough and doesn’t have the handles to be a SG. Sefolosha destroyed him defensively when Batum tried to facilitate.

    • kjch

I’m really tired of behind the scenes politics

    • John Focker

      Politics SUCKS.

    • BUZZCITY17

Hornets will win their next game.. you can bank on that

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Early losses like these really builds character and the team.
      They would remember this game.
Heck what can you expect from a road game.
The Hawks is really lucky to stay alive.

    • KHuang

Game was LOST in the 1st quarter.

Hairston played terribly and allowed the Hawks to gain momentum.

Simply benching him out the rotation would have won the game.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Not with the same starting lineup!

    • David Kim

Re: GT: Charlotte vs Atlanta Oct 30 8PM EST
Post#518 » by Type Raba » less than a minute ago
this loss is on clifford. how can he not see that kemba, lin, batum + stretch 4 (marv/kaminsky) + big (al/zeller) is our best lineup? this lineup brought a 20 pt lead down to 5, then tonight came back twice from double digits to end the 2nd and 4th quarters… why isnt this lineup used more often and not only to close out halves? as is the starters are barely adequate, and the 2nd unit is an absolute joke…

from real gm…i totally agree with him.

    • zxcvb

No. He was fine in the 1st half. They swarmed him and he did well in limited touches.

The 3rd quarter he was bad and too timid, leading to TOs. But guess what? Even Lebron and Durant and Curry stink for games at time. Lin has NO DEFINED ROLE right now and plays with different guys every game for the past 4 years. Give him a break.

    • blubell

      Unfortunately, it’s everywhere… hard to avoid 🙁

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Not with the same starting 5.

    • zxcvb

Until MJ and Cho allow Clifford to start Lin, this team is a .300 team. Start Lin and it’s a .700 win team.

    • Alain Gervais

Cody Zeller has regressed a bit

    • zxcvb

He’s nothing special. He only looks good playing next to Lin.

Hawes and Kaminsky are 10X more skilled than Zeller. Hansbrough too.

    • Michael

KHuang do you think there is any way Al’s postups can gel with the the way the other players are trying to play?

    • Singapore BB Fan

      Like negative 27

    • John Focker

Three out of those six were inexcusable.

    • Papillon

Another loss, but very encouraging signs.
2 close games on the road in the end, vs Miami and ATL! Both winnable.
If there’s such a thing as “positive” losses, these are it.
Coach Clifford trying to be too clever with the lineups, but at least, the biggest positive of all:

He actually trusts Lin, even through the mistakes!

    • BobbyH

      I agree but Politics dominate.

    • Alain Gervais

Lin has zero space in the paint. No other play maker on 2nd unit. Lamb is not a playmaker

    • zxcvb

Whenever Lin, Kemba and Batum play together, they dominate the other team.

When they don’t play together, the other team has an easy job defending.

    • Acbc

Ain’t right sister, man it’s just such a relief.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Politics always Fock up.

    • Alain Gervais

Both Lamb and Batum have shown to be sub par play makers. Ill wait on Batum but I’m sure lamb is strictly C&S

    • IsabeliJane*17

I’m having a problem with Al on defense. Slow. Inconsistent in clearing the boards. Maybe he should test putting Hansbrough in at second unit.

    • TTNN

That’s why coach played Batum/Lin together the second half.

    • TTNN

the closing line up is still the best, somehow those three need to be together to be really good.

    • Alain Gervais

LIN/Batum/Kemba should be on the court at all time

    • heart

I give credit to Clifford to allow Lin to play through his mistakes and 4th qtr/crunch time. I thank him for trusting Lin.

    • Hope

Maybe coach is waiting for walker to ask him to start Lin.

    • Alain Gervais

      Lol 2 of the 3.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Walker Lin Batum compensates for one another.

    • IsabeliJane*17

Relief is an understatement, bro.. it’s like freedom at last hahha, with all of what Jeremy went through with his past two coaches.

    • sws94

Lin hasn’t played point well. He has to figure it out because he plays better when another point is in. In the 4th he finally played like Lin. I think someone needs to tell him, when you start scoring, you open it up for your team mates. When he tries to just set people up, he reverts into bad habits when the spacing is disrupted by the opponent’s defense.

    • John Focker

Which is why it sucks. Basketball should dominate.

    • David Kim

me too but i dont think hornets will bench AI,,,

    • joyce ward

What was going on with lin in the 1st 3 quarters?

    • Alain Gervais

The first unit needs Lin in there. Second unit needs Batum/Lin and Kemba to stagger their minutes. Winning team right there.

    • sws94

And Lin played poorly. But, it may just be that Lin needs to find his rhythm again.

    • David Kim

too much double team on him

    • BobbyH

Even with the LIN/Batum/Kemba lineup, Lin will always be the last scoring options, based on the 4Q of these 2 games. You can tell clearly who the team value most.

    • sws94

Tentative. Not sure why. He also seemed to slip a lot.

    • Alain Gervais

What are you talking about. They share it pretty well

    • Kwok Wai Lai

When the Hornets are buzzing in; you’re buzzing out.

    • sws94

      What’s Lin’s line tonight?

    • BobbyH

Just watch the game. Most of set plays after break always lead to Walker/Nic shooting.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Nobody seems to be upset with this loss. Hahaha.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

What’chu talking about, Wiley? Lin those 3s.

    • John Focker

      Willis.

    • Alain Gervais

      2-8 shots 2-4 from 3 6-6 FT 4 rebound 4 assist 3 TOV 12 points

    • Hope

Love hornets’ commentator- Lin is 0-5 but he is not afraid to shoot.

    • chronoshifter

despite the loss and poor play through three quarters, what a thrilling finish. I think Lin is a really good clutch player, just needs more opportunities. I think this loss will really make the team hungry for the first W next game, and Lin as well. This was a great 4Q showcase for Lin, hopefully will sway Clifford to start him.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Whatsoever, does it matter?

    • golfhacker

      Yes!

    • Papillon

Noah is not an offensive threat, but he is a great defender, rebounder, and good passer.

Would that not be a better fit with this current Charlotte team’s style of play than Jefferson?

    • Alain Gervais

He will get his shots. He played with harden and got his shots. As well as Kobe. Especially now his 3 is good

    • sws94

I don’t want Lin to start. I want him to play better leading the 2nd unit. He needs practice as the point guard. He’s overly relying on someone else to lead the offense and he needs the work in to sharpen his skills, pacing, etc.

    • John Focker

Whatever, not whatsoever. When you make a reference you gotta make sure it’s correct so people will “get it”.

    • chronoshifter

it was awesome to see him have the confidence to shoot, even the three and the elbow shot he missed, they were good shots. and that layup that barely rolled out! arrgh! If any of those had went down, would have changed the rest of the game for sure.

    • kjch

Hope the coach gives Tyler a chance next game. See what happens

    • IsabeliJane*17

For some reason seeing Bosh’s game in the season opener reminded me of Zeller’s.

    • BobbyH

      This I agree.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Oh, my God. Zeller’s +/- is off the chart, downward!

    • Alain Gervais

      How?

    • Alain Gervais

      Wow didn’t notice that

    • sws94

For how he played, that’s not bad. He was due for a bad shooting night.

    • John Focker

While I don’t exactly share KHuang fervent passion for T, I don’t understand why he doesn’t get any love at all from coaches.

    • Alain Gervais

      I know its crazy.

    • Papillon

Yes, but the 2nd unit has no one else to facilitate; which means ATL just focused on stopping Lin’s drive and taking away his passing lanes.
How many times did Jeremy end up picking up his dribble with nowhere to go and no one to pass to?

    • Rzo Vlade

      lakers being massacre
      rockets being ,murder

    • Alain Gervais

Agreed. To be honest i put how he played and the team on Cliff.

    • John Focker

      Music to my ears.

    • BobbyH

I like your grammar. All without D, no offense.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Only 6 players have positive +/-.
I move to make them the starting lineup.

    • sws94

He’s dealt with double teams before. He has the skills and experience. No excuses. He needs to get the time to get his groove back as a PG.

    • DaVinci633

Second unit plus Lin is not effective, the other coaches already know the playbook. They just load up on Lin, since he is PG, he will pass to an open man that are not great shooters. Every time Lin tried to penetrate the choke the lane and ignore the others. They also crowded Lin’s spacing on the 3 point line so he is not open for a three. At one point Lin had three guys on him, he passed the ball and they didn’t do anything. They need a second threat on the floor on the second unit. Hawks defensive rotation was really good but the 2unit offense doesn’t react fast enough. Sluggish offensive movement.

Alfense is so terrible, I can’t believe he is an all-star. I understand why Kemba has to take those volume shots. But I see that typically its after a play they were trying to set fell apart because of great defense. So it ended up becoming a forced shot. Kemba has the best chance of making something out of nothing at that point. I’ll take kind of play from Kemba as long as he didn’t ISO on a full 10 second clock.

Overall, against a Top 3 eastern conference team, with the new Hornets team, it was not bad. I think there could be more effort in the defensive end and the offense should get more comfortable playing their PNRs and shooting those 3s as time goes on. They might start get it going after Allstar weekend.

    • Rzo Vlade

      lol hehehehehe

    • golfhacker

Bad shooting happens to everyone. It’s the hesitation and passing up open shots that drive me crazy.

    • IsabeliJane*17

While a lot call for Zeller to be the 5 for second unit, his skills are not truly fit for 5. He’s better as a forward though. Reminded me of how Bosh was when he is played as 5 in early Heat seasons.

    • Alain Gervais

What we learned today. brian roberts playmaking really helped the second unit. Lamb has zero playmaking.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      He means what he said.
He is a master of writing.
We all know these teams play with no D.

    • sws94

I agree. He has to find his alpha back.

    • Michael

I hate it when my prediction backfires into my skull.

    • Alain Gervais

Lin shoots within the offense. There was no offensive scheme today. If there was it was really really bad

    • devin23

Ironic how people didn’t want any other playmaker and want lin to be have the ball in his hands all the time. That won’t cut it against good defensive teams.

    • BobbyH

Yes, I know and I respect that and I made the same. Just trying to mock those fake superstars.

    • sws94

Then he has to shoot more or something. He has to find a way to deal with tough defenses. Lin has the ability. He didn’t want to overdribble but he was thinking too much and ended up too much inbetween. That’s something Lin needs to work on.

    • Papillon

      Hopefully sooner!

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Good minds are all alike.

    • golfhacker

All is not lost tonight! Schadenfreude.

    • sws94

That’s why Lin has to use his step back jumper. Lin has to learn how to be an effective PG when dribble-drive penetration is taken away.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      -27! Oh my God.
      Nobody even came close.
      The closest one Bazemore’s -10.
      Unbelievable.

    • Maknusia

Yup indeed, Q4 was the upside of what Hornets could strive to become

    • golfhacker

      Don’t think that’s intentional!

    • heart

Significant changes from past seasons: 1) HC (Clifford) allows Lin to play through his mistakes; 2) Reinserts Lin in game & 4th/crunch time; 3) Lin plays w/starters in the 4th; 4) No Yelling at Lin on sideline after 3 turnovers; 5) Hornets announcers still give praises instead of criticisms. 5) He’s wanted on the team. 6) No big egos on team (that we can see).

    • KHuang

Lin at PG means that defenses can zone defend him with 3 guys.

Lin’s inexperienced and underconditioned teammates don’t have the capability to ATTACK when Lin gets loaded up on, though Lamb DID GREAT.

Now when Lin is on SG, he can evade opponent tripleteams off the ball.

This is why I’ve been writing all summer that I prefer Lin at SG, both with starters and the bench.

    • MomentousPetey

Clifford needs to give Hansbrough minutes, hes like the only rim protector and would make the opposing bigs/guards think twice about tryna score in the paint. He would also add toughness to the defense. Take away minutes from Big Al/ Hawes and give it to Hansbrough.

Perhaps even start him(as KHuang had suggested numerous times). That would certainly set the tone for the team defensively.

    • KHuang

ATL defense too stiff, CHA teammates too unskilled.

    • KHuang

      NO

    • John Focker

Tyler can’t possibly be worse than Hairston at 3. Only I can be worse than Hairston at 3.

    • Michael

Lol, I hear you loud and clear.

    • zxcvb

Hansbrough doesn’t win this game. Lin does.

Start Lin, problem solved. everything else is style points.

    • KHuang

      Even that is debatable.

    • MomentousPetey

Nah, Roberts was a no show against the Heat.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      The FG% is 25%
      His 3P% is 50%
My God. It sure looks good.

    • BobbyH

      sarcasm to mock the superstars.

    • KHuang

      No, it wouldn’t help.

Jefferson is too much of a black hole shooting maniac who cannot read the court and bricks too many shots early.

      Lin cannot save Jefferson.

    • zxcvb

Too many awful players being given starter roles.

      – Hairston doesn’t belong in pro basketball…and he’s starting.
      – Big Al doesn’t belong in a starting lineup in 2015.
      – Kemba doesn’t belong in starting lineup (38% career shooting).
      – Lin starting helps everyone and himself. Lin, Kemba, Batum has outplayed Miami and Atlanta.

I trust Clifford 100% after tonight. MJ and Cho are idiots and yes men, respectively.

    • Hope

My eye test: Lin/walker are net positive when they are on the floor together.

    • John Focker

I finally understand the term Alfense.

    • MomentousPetey

      Well obviously that too… =).

    • KHuang

That won’t work against three guys either.

It doesn’t even work for Lebron or Durant.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      I don’t know Lin fans are gammarians。

    • Alain Gervais

Just him standing there and collapsing the defense help give Lin SOME space which he got zero today

    • KHuang

I don’t like Lin at PG.

The other players don’t have the fundamentals to play aggressive team basketball.

    • John Focker

Hairston is on the team only because he’s UNC acquisition by MJ/Cho.

    • kjch

Lol yeah I feel the same. I just think giving Tyler a go has minimum risk with a big potential payoff so why not. Can’t be a worse decision than starting Hairston lol.

    • KHuang

      IMPOSSIBLE.

No single guy in the NBA can consistently score against crushing tripleteams.

    • blubell

Is it just me or did Ballstream not have Charlotte’s feed for this game?

    • zxcvb

Yep. It’s amazing how idiotic NBA execs are. A non-racist fan can run their team 1000% better than a racist “expert.”

    • MomentousPetey

Point is, is it too much to ask for Clifford (or perhaps FO) to give Hansbrough a chance to show how he can affect the game…

    • heart

Yep. Bc Lin draws defenders for Walker to shoot or drive to the basket or make plays or pass to open teammates. Most of us see that since preseason.

    • Linzen

      Yeah, only Alanta feed.

    • KHuang

      It is too much.

Playing Hansbrough would not be fair to the other Charlotte big man nonperformers.

    • KL

Any of you think Clifford benched Lin briefly in the 4th because he wanted to help Lin re-focus? If so, that is brilliant.

    • zxcvb

      Everyone here thinks that!

    • Maknusia

I liked CoachC’s attitude, although his plan did not constitute to a Win. But still he stuck to his plan and trusted Lin. Thats is huge, we havent seen that in the past 3 seasons…..Lin continuously getting bench for various reasons

Before the season Lin had mention, CoachC would let Lin play thru his mistakes…CC is man of his word…respect him for that.

As for the game, we should cut some slack to the rotation/lineup that the Coach trying out. Its a new team, with alot of unknowns. I feel it will take atleast 10 season game, before the Coach settles down in finalizing the rotations.

Lets have some patience. Go Hornets, Go Lin

    • Kwok Wai Lai

That’s the good news which compensate the two losses of the Hornets。

    • Papillon

One of the biggest factors in the loss: Turnovers…more specifically Batum’s turnovers.
Clifford made it a point in pre-season to stress that the team needs to minimize turnovers, due to the fact that this Charlotte team is not a good transition defense team.

      18 turnovers in a 3-point loss.
      Batum’s 7 TO’s led directly to 11 ATL points!
He doesn’t seem to have the handles to play SG.

    • John Focker

Yes, 50% 3PT on a BAD shooting night…imagine the good shooting nights! LOL

    • Alain Gervais

Beverley gets no playing time now

    • BobbyH

      Only ALT.

    • TTNN

I think so. I was surprised he came back that quick.

    • kjch

      Lol

    • MomentousPetey

Lol, Ty Hans is ideal at the 4, and Hairston shouldn’t even be in the starting lineup(smh).

    • KHuang

      Totally disagree.

These Charlotte players are new to Lin.

Besides, the really talented guys for Charlotte are not even playing much.

    • sport

Should’ve benched him sooner so he could calm down. Lin was playing so bad almost the entire game.

    • Maknusia

      ditto

    • KL

That is something that has really surprised me. I think they both play at about the same speed and complement each other in offence and defence.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

This the second piece of good news。,
Anymore to make for the 3 course dinner。

    • John Focker

I don’t think T will mind playing 3 as long as he gets minutes. At this point I think he’s willing to play any position. LOL

    • MomentousPetey

Sigh, I really hope this org is really about winning and not massaging egos.

    • John Focker

My day keeps getting brighter…Lakers and Rox being crushed, Beverine not getting minutes…

Oh, btw guys, I just got my preferred assignment for the next three years…in Taiwan, where I’ll join @Michael.

    • Alain Gervais

Laker vs sac 14 to 33

    • devin23

      I agree.

    • DaVinci633

I saw him try, the close the gap darn quick. The hawks had a good game plan against lin, basically keep the pg pressured. They did it to Kemba too. Both PGs had a slow start. Kemba couldn’t take a shot until 3 min left in 1st quarter I think. Fuming Hawks I think is also what allowed the lax defense at the end of fourth, plus clifford put some really fast small ball guys on the floor. Al was good was rebounding.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Now you start to trash Lin’s big bosses。
      Man, that’s a no no here。
      Don’t say it even it’s true。 Sh。。。。。

    • Maknusia

CoachC still has another chance for a revenge game this Sunday…that would be interesting to watch…how the coaching staff making the adjustments, and what kinda lineup will be thrown out there…cant wait…to me at this point win or lose doesnt matter, good show, team chemistry and better rotations has the higher priority. Eventually when the win comes…that would be sweet.

      Go Hornets

    • Alain Gervais

      44-69

    • DaVinci633

      yeah me too!

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Anyone has any take on Zeller? He literally disappeared in the last two games. He is first sub from the second unit. If JLin is in before him, would it make any difference on how the team looks?

    • CJSHYY

He should bench Lin long before that… Lin played lousy game just passive not shooting at all. smh! But coach didn’t want to take him & still let him played through mistakes… Thanks God, after that benched Lin finally wake up to play the game. smh!

    • zxcvb

Another loss unless Lin starts. The “NO ASIANS” policy of the Rox, Laker and Hornets is really hurting them.

    • IsabeliJane*17

Guy still in the NBA? ah well…

    • Alain Gervais

The first 5 games are tough. Cant wait for the easier east games

    • Michael

Yes, that was strange. He was very aggressive in the preseason and then pooff?

    • Kwok Wai Lai

You can’t waive him because he has already been nominated as the 30th starting small forward in NBA.

    • sport

He played PG this game and it was horrible and went back to bad habits: picking up his dribble and getting stuck, passing too much (predictable = TO), hesitant to shoot, head fakes every time instead of taking the 3.

    • IsabeliJane*17

I don’t mind him being benched to have him refocus his mindset.

    • John Focker

Classic case of means beating the ends…massaging egos for long term win, leading to losses.

    • DaVinci633

yeah I think he should be a catch and shoot or penetrate when there’s an open lane. preferable shoot only.

    • BobbyH

      And superstars brick?

    • zxcvb

He’s nobody. Not good, not bad. Lin makes any decent big look great.

Greg Smith is waaaay better. Ed Davis is waaaay better. Hawes is way better. My grandma is equally good.

    • Yascar

Am I seeing this right? Kings have 74 pts against Lakers at the HALF?

    • grover chang

He still doesn’t shoot fast enough. curry could do it. Durant and Dirk have the length.

    • John Focker

I can’t waive him only because I’m not MJ.

    • CJSHYY

No, Lin played bad w 2nd unit now… don’t know why it’s nothing like preseason game at all. smh!

    • Alain Gervais

Its crazy how the hornets bench have no one else who “wants” to drive the ball. Would help lin a lot

    • Briiick

As I said previously, both parties should just admit that Batum plays the 3 as a rental. Otherwise it hurts not only Hornets but also Batum’s next contract.

    • Maknusia

      Game Results and Score

    • sport

Kemba Walker drove to the rim several times and made some shots that’s about it.

    • zxcvb

No one drive can except Lin. And he’s limited due to minutes and scrub 2nd unit teammates who can’t even make uncontested layups and 3s.

    • IsabeliJane*17

Jeremy helped make him good. The problem, too good that Zeller’s game is reliant on Jeremy now.

I want to see more of Jeremy-Hansbrough and Jeremy-Kaminsky pairing.

    • Hope

      I hope starting …

    • Kwok Wai Lai

He made two 3s in the 4th shooting 50% from downtown! Sort of!

    • Alain Gervais

I was talking about the bench sorry forgot to include that

    • Maknusia

      UP NEXT

The Hawks and Hornets will play in Charlotte on Sunday.
It will be the Hornets’ home opener after playing their first two games on the road for only the second time in franchise history and the firsttime since 2005-06.

    • DaVinci633

When Lin got benched on 4th, I turned off the game. Then I came here. Found out from the chat, Clifford put him back in…I was like what? NO WAY!! So I turned the game back on and Lin Drained a 3 as soon as I had the game loaded LOL!!! I was a fun game at the end.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Good minds think alike!

    • John Focker

Hahaha, that’s not even a word. The term you’re looking for is grammar police. Trying to help you with the terms, not nitpicking. No need to get defensive.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      LOL

    • sport

Except he should give Lin the starting SG role! Move Batum back to SF and Walker stays as PG.

    • kjch

Lol no more BS, Mchale, Kobe, Melo, Harden, stupid commentators and unfair negative media. Not as easy to get upset anymore haha

    • Maknusia

preseason game are slack game to test certain combination and to give players the feel for their potential roles. Wins are nice but team and players try-out is the priority

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Coach Clifford has to start him. That really puts him on the hot chair.

    • John Focker

Well, they’re playing 6 on 4 with Kobe still around.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Not gonna argue about that.

    • Michael

It’s one thing to let a player play thru his mistakes, it’s another to actually help the player after he makes mistakes. My faith in Cliff went up by one point.

    • golfhacker

He needs to hit his 3s.

    • John Focker

I still think Clifford starting Hairston is a pissing contest with MJ/Cho.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Seriously, if Tyler starting shooting 3s and makes it @ a respectable rate, …

    • Maknusia

I think, its just matter of time…TH would play…..just need to wait for the Coach to finish his try-outs

    • kittyhead

No surprise here. BS always emphasizes DEFENSE by mouth.

    • Arsenium12 .

Lin dives for loose ball. Note structural integrity of hair ….
      _________

    • KL

Actually Clifford has a bigger headache on the rotations than it seems. I think politics and giving face is unavoidable. That ties his hands somewhat.

      Leaving politics aside…

Al cannot pass out of the post. Hawes cannot rebound. Hansbrough cannot shoot (or so it seems, sorry Khuang!). Zeller cannot thrive with Al. Batum cannot create without Lin. Walker cannot shoot without Lin. And the list goes on. The only guy that can do everything and play with everyone is Lin!

    • Maknusia

right or wrong, but i think we are concluding early just based on one game…the same way as the haters did to Lin

    • kjch

That’s my theory as well! Probably told him to play more confidently and take his shots

    • grover chang

Totally that is his fatal flaw. I think Lin has carried that flaw with every team he has been on since Linsanity. You are right. He is thinking about his teammates. He is being a good teammate. What he doesn’t understand with Linsanity was that he got his and that made it easier on his teammates. He played fast and aggressive. He is always saying he wants to play his game and play aggressive. He doesn’t always seem aggressive to me. If Lin wants his teammates to score in the game he has to score first.

Lets be honest. We all just want Linsanity back. Lin says he doesn’t want to recreate Linsanity, but for the sake of his team I think he should.

    • Michael

Lol, that’s what you took from this game?

    • Alain Gervais

Im a bit confused how did Hawks double lins PNR and cover all the other players. Some one was doing something wrong.Lin did at times picking up the ball. Other times people would launch threes not breaking down the defense

    • blubell
    • JLin Fan from Australia

Believe if JLin is one of the starters, can solve some of the issues. It’s rather painful to watch Al kept on doing his stuff and then bricking and bricking and never passed out to the open man.

    • Maknusia

      150%? … 🙂

    • sws94

If he started, you want Roberts leading the 2nd unit? I don’t think Clifford wants to play Roberts much leading the 2nd unit. Cliff’s plans are clear. Lin comes in, runs the 2nd unit and stays in to finish the half and then the game.

    • Briiick

Well said. You forgot that Batum is only a rental if he plays his nature position, and Hornets want the unnatural way.

    • John Focker

      I won’t complain if you don’t. LOL

    • Maknusia

so can we get offensive? since no need to get defensive…lol cheers

    • sws94

This isn’t the game to say Kemba doesn’t belong in the starting lineup. Lin did NOT look like a starter tonight and sometimes he just doesn’t. Other times he does. That’s the reality we have to deal with and I hope he does so this season. He’s at a crossroads now in his career. He’s now a veteran and no longer a young player.

    • MomentousPetey

Ty Hans has barely gotten any playing time in preseason and none so far. Clifford has got to give him minutes to show what he can do! SMH!

    • John Focker

As long as no one gets Alfensive.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

People aren’t moving and clustered near the paint before JLin got back in again in 4th quarter. Then people/ball began to move. It was much nicer to watch. They should play like that for the whole game. JLin was the only one with the starters then minus Hairston. The game should start with these 5.

    • Phillycheese

Spaces are as irritating as all caps.

    • KL

Batum is what I would call a secondary playmaker. He is good at reading the play and making a quick pass. Dribbling is his problem though. He needs Lin.

    • CJSHYY

I think they want to trade Al so he will stay in starter at least until the trade dateline.

    • Arsenium12 .

One last photo …. The Atlanta coach in the gray suit with the diagonally-striped tie is Kenny Atkinson who was quite helpful to Lin when Lin and he were with the Knicks …
      __________

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Couple times I saw Clifford looked at “Silas” when JLin had turnovers and …, believe Clifford took him out and let Silas talk to him.

    • John Focker

Harden 14 pts on 3-15 shooting (20%) 1-8 on 3PT…cornerstone! Makes Kobe look good with 4-10 FG and 1-7 3PT.

    • CJSHYY

I think 2nd unit has more problems than 1st unit… bc how come Lin couldn’t do well w these players? Weird? They were playing so well in preseason?

    • CJSHYY

I am so happy for this best player in the league now… LOL! Wishing them a L today again.

    • golfhacker

      Hope you’re right.

    • Byron

honestly, whether playing with the starters or 2nd unit he looked better at the 2. he makes quicker decisions imo when he plays the 2.

    • Phillycheese

I don’t know if it has been said but Dominique Wilkens straight up does not think much of Lin’s game. He just regurgitates the old assumptions – Lin has a slow first step, Lin keeps falling, fouls against Lin are the refs’ crappy calls. Can’t stand the human highlight film – which digital has obviously replaced.

    • CJSHYY

      Me too. LOL!

    • John Focker

They may also try to make Hairston trade-bait, but it ain’t working.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Agreed. JLin didn’t look too comfy to play pg in this game. Maybe it was due to little/no time practice as pg in this Hornets team and was a little lost in communicating with others???

    • CJSHYY

Hairston has no value but maybe the rookie? or Zeller?

    • sws94

I think there are some in denial about that. I think LIn can play PG fine but he is very rusty at it. He doesn’t look close to a starter PG and it showed a bit in preseason too.

    • Maknusia

ex-Hawks…what else is there to say 🙂

    • devin23

Lin’s the type of player that plays better when empowered. Lin says so himself.

    • John Focker

Trade Hairston and Zeller for Ed Davis.

    • CJSHYY

Too bad, Lin did have a lousy game today so ….

    • grover chang

Miami game I understand Lin being limited. Their defense is very aggressive but Lin could have played more tonight. He was so slow after the pick and didn’t attack the basket allowing Atlanta to cover him. He would drive so much faster when in New York. When he waits after the pick to see his teammate roll, it wasn’t there and he just got stuck, make an ineffective pass, or turn the ball over. I know Lin could be more aggressive.

    • blubell

      Don’t forget bad defender. lol.

    • MomentousPetey

      7 TOs

    • sws94

He has to do better under tough defenses. That’s the next step. Nash could get away from them, Lin can’t. Lin has the speed and skills, but not the know how.

    • InfiniteWisdom

Why can spoelstra and coach bud stagger their starters with the bench but coach cliff cant? they should start and end each half with kemba, lin, nic, marvin, & big al. in between, mix and match depending on the night. clearly the 4th quarter lineup is the best, even against the elite east teams as we have seen these 2 games…

    • CJSHYY

You know when Lin played passive I knew he would have a lousy game …today he did… don’t know what’s wrong w him but this is not the first time he did so… smh! I hope he do well w this coach. Today’s bench just brief but next time… who knows…?!

    • sws94

So he’s not a PG? Maybe he isn’t.

    • sport

Lin has been playing SG for several seasons now, no doubt he’s rusty. If coach Clifford wants Lin to play PG, he needs more practice when training with the team.

    • DaVinci633

great defense better offense! When that happens, Linsanity is BACK!

    • sws94

I think Curry can. I think Lin passed up a lot of open shots and was indecisive. It wasn’t just the defense. When he had a chance to score, for some reason, he didn’t. His scoring opens his game up. I’ll say that 2 thousand times. When he hits a shot or two right away he usually plays better than not.

    • wandertheglobe

Lin thinks he is even a better player than Linsanity and he’s a better player, but if he doesn’t have someone like MDA to allow him to be the main man, then we may not see Linsanity again.

    • InfiniteWisdom

the teams have simply figured out you can double or trap him and the scrub bench wont burn you for doing so.

    • heart

It was cringe-worthy each time. Too many easy open shots missed near the basket, and yet he usually gets the most attempts. If he’d made a few of those like Zbo on Memphis did, a win would have been attainable.

    • grover chang

When he played passive before I attributed to him thinking too much. Understandable since it is a new team and new system. Or he was passive because he had no rhythm from being yanked around in the lineup. Will the latter is not an excuse anymore. He should get more aggressive as time goes on and figures it out. After thinking for awhile his conclusion may just be to not wait on everyone else and take it himself.

    • sport

It’s his 6th season already. Lin should know by now that he plays the best when he’s looking to shoot first, pass second.

    • Briiick

I guess the coach prefers the 4th quarter lineup, but politics get in the starting unit.

    • KHuang

      Too much tripleteaming.

It only stops if Lin plays SG or if Clifford trots out a lineup of Lin, Lamb, Williams, Kaminsky, and Hansbrough.

    • CJSHYY

During preseason they did play his game for him but not anymore…. not surprised bc these players to NBA for money & stats is very important… NO one cares about score… LOL! Who? Lin himself. smh!

    • KHuang

Historically, Hansbrough has shot the heck out of the ball when he receives decent minutes.

    • zxcvb

Politics. Big Al must start. Scrub UNC Hairston must start. Batum must play SG so he can resign (lol) and MKG can play SF. So many scrubs hand-chosen by ’90s-minded MJ and Yes Man GM Cho.

    • heart

After 2 game, Hornets are still Hornets. Not much has changed.

    • sport

Not playing players at their rightful positions and not starting Lin with correct lineup.

    • Lam

“The Hornets have also had two straight solid games from Jeremy Lin off the bench. There was some concern that his play over the preseason wouldn’t translate over to the regular season, and even though he didn’t shoot well tonight, his play making ability has been invaluable to the second unit.”

I went to “At the Hive” expecting the Clutchfans treatment for Lin and was pleasantly surprise. You guys must have much higher expectations for Lin! Note: I didn’t watch the game.

    • blubell

      Sorry if posted already.

    • golfhacker

94 pts both games. Maybe team doesn’t want 1/2 price pizza?

    • grover chang

He is better then Linsanity. Part of that is he could play at different speeds. I like that, it extends his career. But when you are playing down to the speed of your team he just plays too slow and lets the other teams defense get ready. Sometimes you need to drag others along before they could help you. Lin has the ability to dominate on his own and then get his teammates involved. The guys in the NBA we dislike are the Hardens and Kobes of the world that dominate and then never let go.

I think the best example of what I mean is the Celtic game last year at Staples. Lin just played bully ball and made sure the ball went in the hole. Then it was like the whole court opened up for others to get involved. BS allowed Lin time to play and he had subpar talent around him. Lin has more talent then that Laker team. If he takes the lead and does most of the work at first, I think his teammates will start looking pretty good following his lead.

    • sws94

Exactly. That’s why I think he’s rusty. Starting at SG and not playing much PG isn’t going to develop his PG skills. He needs to be that reliable guy in case Kemba goes down and getting practice now leading a not so great 2nd unit is a good challenge for him and will make him improve at the PG. I say, don’t start him at SG. I’m in disagreement with most on the board that want him to start at SG.

    • CJSHYY

Hornets media are very nice to Lin … I am also very surprised to see they seem to be OK w the L?! Didn’t blame anyone…?!

    • nodomo

      harden 4 for 18 FG and 1 for 10 from 3PT.

    • Steppen03

*Smile*. At least, the Rockets got 20 Pt Beatdown by my Warriors. =). And Lakers got spanked by Rondo, Cousins, and Rudy.
The Pistons is lookin good – beating the Bulls. The Wolves, Kings, Magic are on the rise.

    • zxcvb

Start him for 34mpg and let’s revisit this topic. Even Lebron is a LOSER 30% shooter with just Smith and Thompson and Delly. And those three guys are 10X better than Kemba, Hairston and Zeller.

    • InfiniteWisdom

but how? al still starts, kemba starts, batum starts… everyone touches the ball with superior spacing and ball movement… it’s SO clear that the 4th quarter lineup is THE BEST we have on this team.. in fact coach cliff said after the miami game that it wasnt the kemba/lin/batum combo that was great but the zeller/marv combo. yet tonight we saw kemba/lin/batum/kaminsky/al make a comeback to close out the 1st half. then we saw kemba/lin/batum/marv/al make a comeback to close out the 4th…. the common theme is kemba, lin, and batum matched with a 3 pt shooting strecth 4 and a big.

    • blubell
    • grover chang

He could’ve played more physical and force either a shot or a whistle. I’ve seen him go through tough defenses before. Sometimes he missed, sometimes he made it, sometimes he got fouled. I point to both celtics game last year and multiple Linsanity games as examples. Lebron will just put his head down sometimes and take the hit to regain momentum. Lin is strong, he could take the contact and still score too.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Cap is too easy for my like.

    • sws94

He sounds good. He sounds like a leader.

    • grover chang

      Did Lebron win?

    • sws94

4th saved him. Up to then, Lin wasn’t great. but it is nice to see a media not looking to trash players of their teams.

    • InfiniteWisdom

i cant buy that pj means so much to them just because of the UNC factor. and batum imo isnt a diva to demand the ball. in fact tonight’s TO fest shows you why he needs help. as does lin as the sole playmaker on the 2nd unit.

    • CJSHYY

I am so happy to hear Rox & Lakers news… they deserve what they asked for it. LOL!

    • zxcvb

I’m talking about last postseason. Although even with Love he lost to the Bulls and got shut down by the Grizz (albeit in a win).

    • blubell
    • Alain Gervais

What are you talking about lin was doubled often. when he forced it there was 3 Tovs. The right play was to pass it. Unfortunately when every he passed it everyone just stood and launch a long three. Its like the forgot how to cut and move . People saying Loin a bad Pg now is ridiculous. All three playmakers has few opportunity getting assist. That says its the scheme not the players.

    • Briiick

When Lin plays passively, I just know he is not sufficiently empowered. What a waste of his talent !

    • sws94

YES. He has to score first. Lin, go in there and score. Don’t worry about your team mates at first. You’ll find them once you establish yourself.

    • CJSHYY

They don’t do that…. even Batum didn’t shoot well last game & 7 TO this game are all OK…?! They don’t say anything bad about the lose….

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Disagreed. JLin only didn’t play well in very early part of 4th qtr. He played solid in first half. He played really well after he resubbed in again in 4th qtr.

    • Alain Gervais

Or The rest of the bench moves around and breaks down the defense. How does a team double Lin and get back in time to cover the guy lin passes it to. Makes zero sense

    • sws94

I agree. Linsanity was about scoring just as much as playmaking. I’m not looking for Linsanity to repeat but that’s what put him on the map. His scoring. If penetration is taken away, go halfway.

    • joyce ward

I am not buying that lin is some wishy washy player. I don’t know what happened in the !st 3 quarters, but he was unleashed in the 4th quarter. Look at how Batum played, very selfishly through 3 quarters.

    • blubell

He addressed the TO issue but didn’t throw anyone under the bus. He seems very calm and positive about this team. Good to see from a coach.

    • Dan Cohen

so did lin get blame for that missed 2 to potentially get the game tied? or get blamed for fouling so that its’ 96 to 92?

I don’t know.. I was watching ws..but just saw playbyplay of the game at the same time.

    • CJSHYY

I agree Lin is better than Linsanity period now.

    • Briiick

Agreed. As I said earlier, when Lin hesitated, I felt he was not empowered enough to do his things.

    • zxcvb

Leading Republican Presidential Candidates: Donald Trump and Ben Carson.

Never underestimate the stupidity of a racist.

    • joyce ward

      Exactly. Lin was following orders

    • Dan Cohen

so meaning release him and let him do his thing

    • CJSHYY

Batum is in contract year. So is Al… they want good stats.

    • grover chang

Lebron is the best player on the team. He does all the work. He beats the other team down to make it easier on everyone else. That is what superstars do because they are the only ones who could do that. Lin is that kind of freak. He could look bad on the box score attacking over and over again but then open the game for his team to win. Lin has done that in the playoffs and during Linsanity. Some Linsanity games his FG% was not great but they won. Lin could play harder then today.

    • sws94

I don’t think Linsanity can happen again but I think a 15 5 Lin is very possible. I also think a Lin that controls and dominates as PG as a distributor and scorer is fine, but it all starts with his threat as a scorer. Kyle Lowry said Lin was an alpha scorer. He’s right, sometimes. Sometimes he is.

    • MoominFloren

I’m glad that the coach allowed Lin to finish the game, who had no hesitation to bench Al for lazy defense in Miami.
      That’s GOOD! That’s TRUST!

    • GoodDayLA

I did not watch the game. But I am coming to 4 conclusions:

      1. Charlotte is exactly what I feared it would be so far. Clifford is being a bad coach by not playing people properly and enough minutes. He said he’d play 9 and is playing too many guys to0 spread out. For example between PJ, Lin, Lamb, only 2 need to play. You do not need to dilute the minutes to 3 guys. Same goes for Al, Kam, Hawes, Zeller, Marv. Play 3 of the 5 max. Clifford is just diluting everyone’s role and minutes. I’ve seen this before on other teams in the past and it’s not a good outcome.

I think we all got fooled, Clifford included by the preseason. Now reality is setting in and boy is it ugly.

      2. Lin just might not be as good as we wished he was. Yeah he is really good and all star good in the perfect situation. But he just can’t play insane every game like the top 3-4 guys in the league and play great despite subpar circumstances. Granted I did not watch the game, and I am just boxscore surfing. But I saw game 1 and it just confuses me what he is even doing out there sometimes.

      3. Honestly though, Clifford doesn’t seem to have the foresight to have made the tough calls in preseason. He was hiding his bets trying to hemmorage bad moves rather than go all in and win big time. That’s why everyone is shooting 5-15 and playing all out of sorts and the minutes are all spread out all over the place when Clifford should have had a more focused lineup.

      4. I’m tired of Lin dominating when it’s too little too late. It won’t matter if the season turns into a loser and then Lin starting putting on a show. He needs to do it now or else.

    • CJSHYY

I hope he can stay on the team at least until this season end…

    • zxcvb

Lin isn’t inconsistent. His usage is. Even Lebron, Durant and Curry have off games and miss 5 open shots in a row. But when Lin scores 12p on 8 FGA…he gets trashed. Just racism and politics.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Nobody can stand big man crying.

    • blubell

Ok, Thats what I thought. I didn’t see the aggressiveness from previous games and lots of hesitation in the 1st 3 quarters and then boom 🙂

    • kittyhead

I like this. No need to blame anyone if they leave it all on the court. I think the first 20 games are to build their chemistry and stablize the roster. Win or loss is ok!

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Adidas makes bad shoes.

    • sws94

He played way better against a tougher Miami defense.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Yes I’m impressed. He really knows what he is talking about. Very disorganized and played with no purpose. When it’s turnovers, guys didn’t run back to defend…. They studied the film and learned to defend but…. Wow!

    • Dan Cohen

he has to say to be honest… else you will think he is not a lin fan or a troll. this is not the other site where freedom of speech is more prevalent

    • joyce ward

Lin is like that bad actor in a movie on not sure how to play a part.

    • Briiick

Batum can keep doing ball handling 2-guard until no other team but Hornets want him next season. Maybe this is exactly the unspeakable idea of the FO.

    • sws94

HE didn’t play close to solid leading the 2nd unit as PG.

    • GoodDayLA

that’s on Lin on some level too. He knows Silas and Coach Cliff seems to really believe in him supposedly. If so, Lin should have the guts to speak up before after and during games to establish his role and identity on the team. He’s had 3 years of practice in Houston and LA to learn.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

If you didn’t watch the game, please don’t make any baseless assumptions.

    • Alain Gervais

Charlotte is going to be ok. They faced top teams in the east and barley won both. They are a new team and have a few things to fix. From what coach said its more of a mental thing. Understanding how to play and rotate. Getting back on defense. Cant wait for after the first 5 then it should get easier.

    • TTNN

stop reading after the first sentence.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

      Not that I know of.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Put Kaminsky there instead of Al.
Then a truly great lineup is there: 5 outs!

    • golfhacker

Did not get blamed for either. Happy that he shot the ball. We were begging him to shoot. Down by 4 w < 20 secs left, pretty much have to foul anyway.

    • GoodDayLA

the boxscore doesn’t lie on minutes and usage

    • sws94

Please listen to Cliff postgame interview.

    • JustSayNo2HardensIso

Jeremy has been passing up on a lot of pull up jumpers off the pick and roll and open 3s. He’s been open couple times at the 3 point line but instead of shooting it, he’s been pump faking and driving into a clogged lane.

Would love to see him just take those shots because he can make them.

    • blubell

Their chemistry seems good off court but not yet on court. I’m sure they will get there soon.

    • JustSayNo2HardensIso

It’s strange because their chemistry was so good during the preseason. I wonder what is different.

    • joyce ward

Yall need to come on. Lin hand cupped tonight until 4th quarter. It’s called politics . Kemba scored 19 points against Miami, but lin was named Hornets player of the game. Batum wasn’t even mentioned at all. I give Clifford props because he knows it bs, and he worked around it by putting lin in the 4th quarter and lin delivered. You so called lin fans trashing him because he didn’t live up to your expectations. Look beyond the game and support lin in his poor play which is often not attributed to his skill set but office politics.

    • CJSHYY

I don’t know why coach wants him to handle the ball?! Why? he’s not even that good ball handle guy?

    • TTNN

I was amazed that he could write up a wall of text without watching the game, and yet sounds he knows everything.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

After all these years with all the trashes that Rox and Lakers pulled on JLin and you still believe boxscore alone. Seem like you haven’t learned any lesson at all.

    • zxcvb

No one is trashing Clifford. Stop accusing.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Put Roberts in with 2 of the 3 for rotations. Roberts would love it. He would shoot the ball anyway.

Tons of people at RealGM, wanting Lin to start

“Just a quick observation from a Cs follower – what’s the point of not starting what was clearly the most effective lineup in the 4th quarter? From the box score, Hairston only got 16 mins, so what’s the point?”

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Agreed especially after hearing Coach Cliff’s postgame interview.

    • grover chang

I think Lin puts the cart before the horse. He is a great guy. He puts his teammates before himself. But he is the horse. He needs to put himself first and pull the team with him. In the not so far past we were all on a big high after the china trip. What did Lin do on the china trip. Did he dribble around the defense to find teammates and get them going? No. This was China! Everyone was there to see him. He shot and shot and shot! Then it was running downhill after that. I know this is an old argument but Lin should shoot more and early on.

    • TTNN

      low key show off. 🙂

I think the coach is professionally sound as KHuang pointed out and politically smooth.

    • Alain Gervais

I really don’t like the boggy man Line for Lin. If he don’t play well its some man in a mask how said boo overtime he shot. He struggled for three quarter and came back with a better lineup and shot well. if he shot with the other lineups it would of been off rhythm. Anyways we face them again so we will see how Good Cliff can adjust.

    • dlin2

Some more Cliff hate from Hornet fans.

“I know I been missing in action just like last year. A whole summer of hoeing and then being cuffed by a new PYT has kept me away from this board just like last year. But I’m back. And all I have to say is that Cliff’s rotations are still our biggest detriment. Why the h*** is Marv starting and its rather obvious that Batum is more a 3/4 than a 2.:

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Thanks for being a man–admit your mistake:-)

    • sws94

There’s politics always but I just think Lin overcompensated for a little too much dribbling last game. He wanted to pass when there were none because he didn’t want to hold the ball too long. Don’t know why he was passing up shots unless it’s the usual trying to set up his squad.

    • joyce ward

      Exactly

    • zxcvb

Until Lin starts, there’s going to be countless close losses where the 4Q unit comes up short. I don’t even know if the games are worth watching until then. Same pattern tonight as last game…

    • steven ko

Haven’t had time to read through all the comments but in watching the game, it seems that Lin isn’t getting enough touches. His teammates (Batum and Kemba) freezes him out too much. Are you guys seeing that as well?

    • zxcvb

Without all three playing together, none of them have enough room to operate. They just need to play together for more than 12m per game. No more “4Q unit.” They need to be the 1st unit and play 25-30m together.

    • joyce ward

You do you. Lin is a very good player and he doesn’t have these bad moments because of poor skill set

    • Alain Gervais

Nope.He got enough just the offense ran like a car made in the 1950’s

    • dlin2

Just another observation — after reading the message boards at the real GM. Hornet Fans seem to regard Clifford as a dumb coach – like McHale – not the genius we think he is. They are questioning why Batum is a 2 not 3. Why Hairston is in the starting line up and why not have lin, kemba, batum as starting so we Lin fans are not that irrational I think…Coach is kind of mchale-like right now to be honest.

    • grover chang

Nope. Lin had looks. Didn’t always take them. I don’t’ think its politics, spacing, or lack of confidence. I think Lin is sometimes too nice and too unselfish. He is the best scorer on the team. Please shoot more. He played almost the same minutes as Walker and Jefferson. Both of those guys shot 15 times. Lin only 8. Why is the best player taking half the amount of shots?

    • golfhacker

You can almost see him trying to think too much. Just let it fly – everyone else does.

    • devin23

      exactly.

    • zxcvb

I think they attribute all basketball decisions to Clifford. As Lin fans, we know there are politics behind the scenes (e.g. Dolan, Morey).

    • Alain Gervais

Its easy to question someone when the team is not winning

    • Alain Gervais

Can we stop this straw man argument( Its the boogy man)

    • devin23

That seems to be the trend.

    • Lx

I thought Lin did great tonight. It wasn’t his best performance but it was no where near bad. The hornets could have won tonight, if they didn’t turn the ball over so much, which also lead to the other team scoring.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

If he did it, it would be selfish ball/hero balls esp when the game wasn’t on the line. He wants to play teamball.

    • dlin2

Here is the think a great coach will not take crap from the front office. He will fight it.

    • TTNN
    • zxcvb

The owner of the team and General Manager/President of Basketball Operation is not a “Boogy Man.”

    • Briiick

      Laughable politics !

    • ZcodeSportSystem.com

Lin needs to work on his handle…and sometimes, he needs to keep things simple and not try to hit a home run every time he’s on the ball….I thought he passed some shot and over-dribbled a bit too much.

    • MomentousPetey

Yep, Lin played the right way, which is why Hornets were able to make that 4th qtr run.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

That’s what Coach Cliff said in his postgame interview. Too many turnovers and players didn’t run back to defend when it happened.

    • dlin2

Again, a great coach who knows his job is on the line will try to fight it.

    • Alain Gervais

Its been that for every year. y’all always blame some one. With no fact to back it up. I cant take these assumption anymore. Ill give you harden or dolan h*** even BS but here as well. its just getting annoying

    • Alain Gervais

No he don’t he needs more space

    • Uh-Oh

More like lack of moderation than freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is not about saying whatever you want.

      http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nba/charlotte-hornets/article42039468.html

When Charlotte Hornets coach Steve Clifford got the job in the spring of 2013, Kemba Walker and Gerald Henderson met with him to send the message they were sick of losing and what could they do about that?

Clifford made them a bargain: Conform precisely with a strict set of principles and they would figure out a way to squeeze out enough victories to make the playoffs. That’s what happened the following season.

Two games into the 2015-16 season these Hornets don’t practice conformity. They make silly turnovers. They fail to get back on defense. And they’re now 0-2 following a 97-94 road loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

That the final score was this close – point guard Walker got off a 3-pointer that missed as the final buzzer sounded – illustrated this new group’s firepower. The Hornets made 12-of-30 3-pointers, including shots by Jeremy Lin and Marvin Williams that cut a 14-point deficit to two in the final minute.

But that comeback wasn’t this game’s story. It was the 20 turnovers (as many as the Hornets committed in any game last season) and the 21 fast-break points the 2-1 Hawks scored.

The lackadaisical transition defense was a problem even in a 7-1 preseason (how misleading that record looks now). The turnovers are a newer phenomenon.

Clifford calls transition defense his “non-negotiable,” as in if you refuse to run back you’ll sit. But how can he sit an entire roster?

High turnover might not be “non-negotiable,” but it would be pretty close.

“We’re just so disorganized,” Clifford said post-game. “They’re very good defensively, but we play with very little purpose. We don’t understand what wins.

“We’ve worked on it, we’ve watched it… If you’re going to look at every game that’s played, if you’re going to not run back on defense and turn the ball over, you’re gonna lose.”

Clifford didn’t sound so much angry as exasperated. The teams he coached the first two seasons in Charlotte were formulaic, but at least they stuck to the script. Half the roster was turned over in the off-season and perhaps it will take time for the message to sink in.

“The good thing is we’re playing hard and we have a talented team,” Clifford said. “In this league it’s not who you play so much as how you play. We might have been not that talented the past two years, but we played well: We never beat ourselves, we were disciplined and right now, for these two games, we were none of that.”

A good example would be Nicolas Batum, who has been given major ballhandling responsibility in the new, flashier offense. Batum made his first four shots for a quick 10 points, but by game’s end he had committed seven turnovers.

The good news: This is an 82-game season, not the 16-game sprint that is an NFL season. But something needs to change soon because the margin for error to qualify for the playoffs doesn’t seem high, even considering the upgraded talent on this roster.

“That can change in one day,” Clifford said hopefully. “A lot of what is happening right now is just mental. We have smart guys and you can change things in this league in one day. It’s all about where your mind is at.”

Because right now it’s about where their minds aren’t.

    • Briiick

Ty Lawson also knows Lin’s pain in Rox now.

    • blubell

      Strategy? LOL.

    • InfiniteWisdom

when there’s enough talent on the floor, things open up. there’s only enough talent when they play kemba, lin, and batum together, that’s the difference. that second unit is garbage cuz all they have to do is stop lin from penetrating and nobody else can hurt them. yes, tonight lamb made some big 3’s but honestly you cant rely on that to happen all the time. we need to manufacture easy baskets and get to the FT line. that happened in preseason but we play totally different now. perhaps we really need roberts to be the ball handler and let lin play the 2. he seems to attack instinctively and not worry too much about setting people up when he plays the 2.

    • grover chang

Sundays game is scary. Atlanta didn’t even have Korver in this game. Going down 0-3 will be a really bad start.

    • zxcvb

It is annoying. Doesn’t mean it’s not true. You can’t be so naive to think everything is 100% honorable. Otherwise there would be no racism, sexism, homophobia, prejudice in the world.

    • CJSHYY

I feel the same way he just didn’t want to take the shoot…. passive game again. smh!

    • Uh-Oh

      Hahahaha!

    • Alain Gervais

      Wheres the proof??

    • kittyhead

Look like some players still shoot everything and play no defense. hahaha

    • MomentousPetey

      We appreciate your opinion. =)

    • zxcvb

I need to prove that Lin is better than Hairston? Or Price? Or Acie Law? LOL.

Where’s the proof that i’m not an alien unicorn? You can’t prove i’m not.

    • CJSHYY

Ya! I think Korver will be back on Sun… Don’t know what to predict now… If Lin plays well they will win….

    • MomentousPetey

He lurks into trollish territory sometimes.

    • joyce ward

Clifford is a well respected coach in this league. There are murmurings in the league that a lot of GM’s are hoping he doesn’t renew his contract with charlotte because they want to sign him

    • steven ko

Yeah, Lin still had more points than shot attempts which is a good sign of efficiency…

    • Alain Gervais

Hairston played 17 minutes. by your logic FO agrees with you. Wheres the proof??

    • grover chang

Best argument I heard of why Lin should just be the SG.

    • CJSHYY

I thought he cut it down but came back again?

    • zxcvb

And yet he’s starting while Lin only played 27m. Where’s YOUR proof?

What counts as proof BTW? A signed document saying we benched Lin for racial/political reasons? Don’t be ridiculous.

    • Alain Gervais

Not if we are disorganize like the last few games

    • blubell

Take away Korver’s knee high socks? lol.

    • Alain Gervais

so i have to prove you have no proof??? Im not gonna search for an invisible elephant. Nothing Clifford or the charlotte team as a whole has done says they want him to fail. Acting like Lin needs the sea parted for him or else the team is against him is a stretch.

    • zxcvb

Show me your proof that Hairston should take away minutes from Lin.

And I didn’t say they want Lin to fail. I’ve said over and over again that Clifford is great for Lin. I’m saying politics have held him back…and judging by Hairston starting, MJ and Cho don’t share Cliff’s opinion.

    • joyce ward

The problem tonight for this team was batum and transition defense. Batum played very selfishly today, I don’t know if that was by design.

    • Alain Gervais

He isn’t a starter thats the minutes bench players get maximum. Do you want him playing 17 minutes straight??

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Guess I’m not the only one intrigue of Zeller plus and minus:-)
      https://twitter.com/rick_bonnell/status/660315794216194048

    • John Focker

He tried to play PG and failed. I think he got reined in by Clifford during half time.

    • zxcvb

I want him to start and get 34mpg. That’s what’s best for the team. It’s no secret that Kemba/Lin/Batum excel together — makes sense since that’s the toughest lineup to defend.

    • leeda harun

the front office is so high on batum.that why he is a playmaker today to prove they are right…..well the team lose again

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Another issue is Al. He literally stopped the ball movement. With his continuous brick, the team had little chance.

    • TTNN

well, yeah, he is one. He just lurks into non-troll territory sometimes…..

    • Alain Gervais

The coach wants a bigger Sg and he want the bench to have a playmaker(Lamb is not a playmaker so forget that). Its the coaches style of play. If it don’t work its “coaches fault”. My point This is Cliffs job to get “his” idea of this team to work.

    • Lx

Laker fans = Miami heat fans. A bunch of band-wagoners who don’t know anything about the game.

    • real-dsb

I didn’t think was that bad of a game for Lin. He had 12 pts on 8 shots, leading the team once again in PPS.

Some fans call him “passive”, but if you watch the game, it’s just him being smart and letting the game come to him. If he just drove recklessly into the lane every touch, he’d have 10 tovs.

While I still rather Lin start, it is still night and day between Clifford compared to Scott and mchale. After some subpar play, clifford still has faith in Lin to have him close out the game. And it almost paid off as Lin hit some big shots to close a 10 pt deficit to 2 pts in last 5 mins. Hornets had chance to the tie at the buzzer.

His former coaches would have pulled him early in the 4th and he would not have had the chance to pull them back.

    • leeda harun

During the preseason no one cares who scores but in regular season….the players got selfish….

    • TTNN

yeah, somehow that second team is not really that good, so coach should not try really hard to keep it. I’d rather Kaminsky take all Hawes’s minutes… 🙂

    • real-dsb

I saw that, really bizarre that he is the only hornet outlier with that negative of +/-

    • heart

It was obvious Batum was given the green light to dominate the ball. From the Hornets’ feed, the lady commentator repeated several times that w/Clifford’s new offense anyone can bring up the ball. Sounds familiar?

    • Alain Gervais

Not really top scorer was Look at the stats .It all was close. The offense just had no flow. This Batum is shellfish stuff is way over rated. He was hot and only took a few shots in 2nd haIf. This is on the coach.

    • InfiniteWisdom

very easy to explain. the team came back from double digits TWICE. the first time was with kemba, lin, batum, frank, and al. the second time with kemba, lin, batum, marv, and al. cody only played with that garbage 2nd unit. he cant shoot and doesnt roll to the rim with fervor thus no need to guard him at all. send all available units to double and triple team lin. once the ball is out of his hands, it’ll end up with a jacked up shot. again, lamb made some big ones today, but you cant rely on jumpshots.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Zeller was the first one in to play with starters in 1st and 3rd qtr. It went downhill pretty fast when he was subbed in. JLin seemed like the 3rd or 4th to be in from the bench. Guess there is something wrong with the rotation.

    • joyce ward

      Great post

    • leeda harun

can’t expect lin do miracles in the fourth quarter….it needs teamwork…well..not enough to get a first win. Next sunday….on home court..clifford better do something fast.

    • MomentousPetey

I think he was fouled on one of the TOs

    • TTNN

honestly I’m not sure what the coach did, he sure messed up both Batum and Lin this game….. Batum become super aggressive and turn the ball over lots of time, and Lin become passive and also turn the ball over, and both of them play like not sure what their role is, and not untill that Kemba/Lin/Batum line up then they are comfortable and play like a unit.

I think the coach need to re-adjust something then.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Nop he played majority of his time with first unit for he was always the first subbed in. I have observed this in the past 2 games. Please go back to watch the games.

    • John Focker

When one’s right, one does not need to “try” or “prove”. Conversely, one’s NOT right.

    • Briiick

Agreed. If Hornets’ fans in large can tell there is bad politics preventing Lin from starting, then it is really bad !

    • InfiniteWisdom

hawes is great at the elbow for hand offs and directing traffic. he can pass well and pop out to beyond the arc. defensively he sucks but we all knew that. when he drives, that infuriates me… he should be used as a 3pt threat ONLY. him and cody have been a disaster because hawes doesnt shoot enough 3s and zeller doesnt roll to the rim. they are just there, killing spacing and bringing defenders to lin. or whoever has the ball. lamb got trapped for a TO the same way tonight.

    • Alain Gervais

Stats 14 Batum had 10 by haif. 13 for Marv. 13 for Kemba. 12 by Lin. Datum took 2 more shots then Lin. I don’t see the ball hog people are talking about. all i see is bad offensive scheme. Its either on the players for not following the game plan which coach said they didn’t or the coaches ill prepared the players.

    • John Focker

If Clifford gets poached by someone who gives him more autonomy over lineup (or better yet, player selection), I wouldn’t mind Lin following him, unless D’Antoni gets a good new gig.

    • GoJLin!

Even at Houston we know if Lin play more than 30 min, they win more games. He always can attract double and triple teams and free his teammates, if his shots go in, he help on scores, otherwise he helps to set up his teammates.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

It was on the players from Cliff postgame interview and it was stated clearly in the article.

    • Alain Gervais

      Yep

    • blubell

      Yup. It’s all mental.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Yep. The players need to buy into what Coach Cliff’s plans. Seem like JLin follows the script and not many players did.

    • InfiniteWisdom

when he cant get all the way to the rim, he needs to just stop and pop. his jumper improved, so why not shoot it? too much dribbling aimlessly. his no talent teammates on the 2nd unit can only ball watch and chuck so sometimes you gotta go iverson and just shoot. believe in your shot. not overly so but enough to make them respect it.

    • joyce ward

Dude Batum had 7 TO’s that could have easily been points for charlotte if he passed the ball, but he didn’t which turne into points for the hawks

    • real-dsb

Well, I had predicted CHA to start 0-3, but then end up at 5-5 in the first 10 games. So from my perspective it was expected and not that bad (since they are playing top teams).

    • Acbc

Hornets will have to go 8-0 in order for me to win that poll.

As much as Batum talks about team play and Spurs, he’s now caught up with a battle for the leadership of this club. It must be totally annoying to him now that Lin is the player of the game and the clear stat leader during the preseason. Batum may be thinking aloud, I’m supposed to be the best summer acquisition and this 2 million man is killing me. What we maybe seeing from Batum is a bit of jealousy. They are locking horns now to see who will be the team leader. It appears he wants to be another Lebron.

People want Lin to be the alpha male like the egomaniacs he’s had to put with. Harden, Melo and Kobe are selfish egos that ices everyone else out to be the alpha. Lin will never ask others to make him a leader, he’ll do it by being the unselfish team player trying to make everyone else better. Can this be why Lin is trying so hard to pass and get others involved? Lin plays the game the right way. When opponents load up on him, he allows himself be the focus to allow others have a good shot. Unlike Harden and Kobe who would just jack up the shots anyways, Lin will sacrifice his own stats for the win.

Clifford has shown that he’s a man of his words and he’s been a breath of fresh air for all of us who have suffered PTSD. As I had said earlier, lin suffers PTSD 1000xs worst than we have and it showed tonight a little when he was clearly checking over his shoulders on every play. Yet Clifford pushed him back out in the forth with a hard stank on his rear to get going. With this event, we can all finally stop worrying about mistreatment from the coach and Lin FINALLY, FINALLY CAN PLAY AGAIN UNAFRAID OF MAKING ONE MISTAKE. So another great positive from another lost.

If any of you play bridge you may know the terms finesse and “end play”. So here’s my take on maybe why Clifford is making such questionable lineups only to finish with the “real” starting lineup. Clifford is playing with a hand that he can’t win unless he can slip a manipulative move to get an opponent to lose power in their hands. The play of the hand is counting down the games as they are played out and Clifford has only one choice to force someone to play the one card they have that guarantees Clifford will win. The “end play” is to force either CHO or MJ to capitulate by folding their weak card.

The players hate to lose, the GM needs to win, the owner hates to lose but they all hold a trump that gets in the way of Lin starting. Clifford is forcing an endplay by showing the fans and the players that if they want to win they need Lin.

      NO LIN NO WIN.

    • steven ko

It seems that the D’Antoni offense Lin ran in NY had much better spacing than this Hornets’ offense…

    • InfiniteWisdom

yes, i shouldnt have said “only”. he did play with the 1st unit as well. what i mainly meant was that he wasnt involved in the lineup that made both comebacks. thus his abysmal +/-

    • KL

I am really not sure what has happened since the preseason. From what I have seen so far, the ball movement is slower and the player movement, cuts etc is much reduced. I just don’t know why.

It could be that the starters have more minutes now and the bench cannot get into rhythm.

What I sense is that the bench is playing scared. It is not really Jeremy alone that is hesitant.

      Anyone else has observations?

    • leeda harun

why they didnt buy in…? What is the real problem?

    • Briiick

Well said. Even Hornets’ fans begin to see it.

    • real-dsb

I had the same thought too. Clearly, Clifford trusts Lin more to close games. He’s getting the 5th most minutes on the team.

Maybe he’s demonstrating a point in order to move Lin to starting lineup.

    • joyce ward

I think if Clifford left, he would probably take lin with him.

    • blubell

Jeremy must start or play more in order for us to get that 8 straight win streak 😉

    • Alain Gervais

Lin had 3 .He tried doing to much. Like Lin. The spacing was horrible. For both units. Coach said they practiced how to react to the Hawks hard PNR defense. He said They forgot what the practice and never reacted to the Hawks defense correctly. Most of the TOV came of PNR coach said. Batum obviously got in a bad funk. Like lin has gotten in before.

    • blubell

Its probably more mental collapse and they’re not able to translate what they did in practice to the real game.

    • real-dsb

Clifford is 100x better than McHale. I don’t know why Hairston is starting but only playing 17 mins, but Clifford clearly has faith in Lin and trusts him to close games.

    • Alain Gervais

      Opposing team defense

    • joyce ward

Some plays batum had people open but didn’t pass the ball and he got stripped which led to hawks scoring. I watched the game. Coach giving the politically correct answer

    • InfiniteWisdom

the dribble hand off is nonexistent. i think if roberts plays lin can attack off of weak side cuts and screens. he’s great at it and defenses may not double him as much. the same reason curry off ball is dangerous as heck. lin can do some of that. he did in preseason but now with him as primary ball handler, you can easily double him off of any pick. and if he passes out, he’ll never get it back. lamb will chuck. hawes and frank will pump fake and drive. pj will chuck. marv will chuck. cody will stand there and do nothing or hopelessly shoot if left wide open. it went in tonight but dont count on it all season.

    • real-dsb

I watched the game, I don’t feel that Batum and Kemba are freezing him out. ATL is a good defensive team. There wasn’t much room for Lin to do much.

    • heart

Also, predictable offense scheme=Post moves or only one pass. Not much transition or driving lane to the basket. Disorganized/imbalance offense=No flow of read & react=Out of rhythm=shooting suffers.

    • CJSHYY

I thought they will 8-2 but not anymore after watched these two games…. ?!

    • JLin Fan from Australia

      Ok. Got it now.

    • Alain Gervais

Yea i saw those. I agree on those. i remember a transition missed shot where lin was wide open at the 3 points line. My point is Most of the issue are scheme and mentally related. Every player gets tunnel vision at time. we’ve seen lin get a jinx and turn the ball over a lot. Lets give Batum the benefit of the doubt like we do Lin. That being said sunday will be interesting. It will show us how good Cliff is

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Believe Cliff said Hawks was in the conference final last year. They are good in both offence and defence.

    • GoJLin!

Yes, even at Houston we already know if Lin play more than 30 min, they will win more games. Because Line always can attract double and triple opponents and free his teammates, if his shots go in, he scores, otherwise he help to set up his teammates. and It is very hard to get >30 min from the bench. so if they can start JLin, it will be the win-win situation,

    • Hope

I hope coach put the right lineup out there sooner. This team will become very dangerous in playoff.

    • heart

Is it Clifford’s voice or opponent Head Coach’s voice that we hear shouting instructions loudly on the sideline while players were trying to focus playing on court? I think I heard @ Heat and now @ Hawks. Do any of you guys/gals hear?

    • CJSHYY

When Lin was on the court? I didn’t hear that…

    • InfiniteWisdom

i think we need to lay off too much criticism of kemba and batum. both are good players. it’s just that they have the misfortune of playing a lot of minutes with al and so little with lin. what we need to talk about is the kemba/lin/batum lineup. that trio imo is symbiotic. everyone benefits.

    • Uh-Oh

      Loll. =>

    • heart

It could be frustrating for players’ concentration to hear constant directing on the sideline.

Yep I did see JLin did it a few times to look at Coach Cliff when he had turnovers or… Hopefully by putting back in in 4th qtr and he did well would help JLin to recover from ptsd and all his fans as well. Good that it happened in Game 2. There are 80 more games to go! You are a free man now. Fly high and higher from now on!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • CJSHYY

That’s true but I saw other coaches did that all the time during the game time.

    • InfiniteWisdom

another talking point is the lack of penetration has lead to a lack of FT. this is a main reason why we were 7-1 in the preseason. once the heat and hawks stopped our penetration, we were toast. we simply dont have enough shooting to overcome that. sounding like a broken record, but my eye test says that the kemba/lin/batum trio draws more fouls. better spacing, more talent leads to more single coverage and more space to attack.

It shows KThompson had done a great job in defense

    • joyce ward

I think Clifford is trying to prove a point to FO that who you want on the starting unit is not going to work if you want to win games. No shade on Batum or Walker, but I think they felt pressure from lin to try to out perform him. I don’t think they did it maliciously but it was about the survival of the fittest. I think batum felt it more because there was so much expectations from him, which he has not lived up to. I think kemba resorted back to his bad habits because he had no point of reference. Also, Kemba must be feeling a certain kind of way having the ball taken out of his hands. So this an adjustment period for everybody. I hope they will get it together and win some games. The 4th quarter really showed what this team is capable off when clicking on all cylinders.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Really hope that they can put aside all agendas and get together for the good of the team and make it to playoffs.

    • joyce ward

I think they will because they have a good coach that will enforce it.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

Let’s see how they are going to readjust their mentality next game. Too bad that I can’t watch the game live. Can’t wait to see how it will end up with:-)

    • Briiick

I think in the 1st game the coach used the starting lineup enforced from above but still let Walker do most ball handling to manage the damage. In the 2nd game the coach had no choice but to let Batum handle the ball (the idea from above) because they lost the first game.

    • I really like how fair CHA media has been to JLin.

AtTheHive acknowledged JLin early shooting struggle but recognized his playmaking contribution as invaluable. This is a balanced view that we should expect to see.

Great analysis that transition D was their undoing.

The Charlotte Hornets are apparently really good at comebacks that fall just short, because that’s two straight games now they needed one. In tonight’s game against the Atlanta Hawks the Hornets definitely played better. The offense didn’t stagnate at all, and rarely was Charlotte out of the game. However, their defense once again came up short in transition, and this became their undoing.

The Hornets have also had two straight solid games from Jeremy Lin off the bench. There was some concern that his play over the preseason wouldn’t translate over to the regular season, and even though he didn’t shoot well tonight, his play making ability has been invaluable to the second unit.

    • InfiniteWisdom

imo it’s not quite fair to criticize kemba and batum when they arent playing with lin. same as you cannot criticize lin when he plays with the talent deprived 2nd unit. what you can criticize is coach cliff’s inability to see that kemba/lin/batum trio works. the kemba/batum/lin trio has come back from a 20 pt deficit and two 10+ pt deficits. just imagine if that lineup started and had extended minutes? we may even blow out some teams….

    • InfiniteWisdom

2nd unit needs another ball handler. lin attacking from a weak side screen is better than trying to defeat a set defense intent on stopping you. that’s the difference.

    • Maknusia

it was fine for me…didnt observe any offlines

    • Michael

No wonder I dozed off, DC

    • Maknusia

      you beat me to it…thx

    • Maknusia

Even so, the Hornets didn’t quit and managed to make a late fourth quarter run thanks to some huge 3-point shooting from Jeremy Lin and Marvin Williams. Without those two this game likely would have ended with the Hawks shooting free throws, or dribbling out the clock.

    • joyce ward

Reading is fundamental. I was not criticizing anybody, not even the coach. I was giving my opinions on what I thought was happening behind the scenes. If you don’t like what I posted then down vote me and keep it moving.. #UNDERSTANDINGISFUNDAMENTAL

    • jolno

Even on a bad shooting night (2/8) Lin had a TS% of 56.4%. Obviously it was not as good as the 67.2% from the first game, but it’s still above league average.

On the other hand, the self-proclaimed MVP had a TS% of 37.2% tonight against the Warriors and 44.1% against the Nuggets LOL.

The league average TS% for last season was 53.4% and CHA was second last at 49.8% as a team; just slightly better than the 76ers at 49.4%.

    • yes, Fair & balanced as it should be to support the team’s own player.
Quite a contrast with what we got to witness w/ HOU & LAL.

Point out the shooting struggle but also acknowledge positive contribution on playmaking. We can get used to this.

    • GoodDayLA

solid post. I agree. If Clifford is not being handcuffed, he is not doing a good job of playing the right guys and putting his team in a position to win.

    • Rzo Vlade

hey what dominique and his co commentator saying when jlin hitting shots

    • GoodDayLA

in reading your first post, infinite wisdom’s response, and your rebuttal, your response to his/hers is unjustified.

    • InfiniteWisdom

they played well together but coach doesnt play them together enough. that is all. guessing what’s going on behind the scenes is just pure conjecture. the actual on court product of kemba/lin/batum has been phenomenal. no conjecture there.

    • joyce ward

As I have stated to you on many occasions, stay out of my postings because you are nothing more than a drama queen and I really don’t care what you think. Girl bye

    • I felt like Batum still looked for JLin & passed for layup to get FTs plus get him 3PT opportunities.

Kemba is a bit worrisome since I haven’t looked him looking for open JLin and Batum much; just going back to old habits to make ISO moves to get himself going. Definitely not conducive to crisp ball movement.

The trio of Kemba/Lin/Batum was good in the past 2 games leading comeback. They have to start & finish games to develop chemistry. It’s foolish throwing away winnable games & develop chemistry.

Yeah, maybe FO is getting ready to give green light to Coach Clifford to start the trio after seeing how strongly they finished. But they also need to see how leads the 2nd team. Maybe Roberts can try to be a poor-man JR smith

    • joyce ward

      So what is your point? You have the nerve to say I shouldn’t criticize the players in which I didn’t do but you on otherhand posted this;

” lamb will chuck. hawes and frank will pump fake and drive. pj will chuck. marv will chuck. cody will stand there and hopelessly shoot. it went in tonight but dont count on it all season.” Dude bye

    • GoodDayLA

i originally posted the CLT would stink out the gate and go 2-3 and then win 8 out of 10 or 10 out of 10.

I still think it’s possible but it will be even tougher than I suspected.

I’m actually surprised Lin looks so bad the first 2 games. Really surprised. (yes the other Hornets look horrible too but I hold Lin to a higher standard). I thought he was going to come out calm cool and collected with a new sharp jumpshot. But it feels the opposite. I guess he is trying too hard. Or the coaching is incompetent. So much for preseason chemistry

    • Michael

Unfortunately for the MVP its the Kardashian effect.

    • GoodDayLA

haha, these comments are great for a late night laugh.

    • InfiniteWisdom

no, i said whatever kemba and batum do when not playing with lin should be overlooked. same goes for lin when he plays with a no talent bench. my critique of players in based on what i see on the court. your weird psychological profiling is straight conjecture. im here to talk bball, not soap opera storylines.

    • could be a carryover disappointment for not starting after earning the best performance in preseason.

But the tough D for the Heat & not in-synch ball movement in past 2 games also caused him to be more cautious. He can get his points more aggressively this game.

then there’ the slipping with the shoes that are concerning. Happened too often to my liking

He just needs to show he’s the best scorer by being his aggressive self so everyone will follow his lead.

Great to see Coach Clifford put the trust in him. He’ll be more aggressive next game, I think

    • joyce ward

Nobody us criticizing these players and this has nothing to do with them passing the ball to lin. These players played out of character in this game and I was giving my opinion on what might be going on behind the scenes. It is not far fetched to think that these players might be feeling a certain kind of way. They will adjust and start to win games.

    • Yes, his PER is still ranked #3rd despite not shooting well

I expect him to come out aggressively in Game 3 vs ATL

      http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/teams/Charlotte-Hornets/3/Stats/2016/Advanced_Stats/Qualified/per/All/desc/1/Regular_Season

    • InfiniteWisdom

also of note is that the slower pace means he is going up against a set d that has gameplanned to stop him. we all know he is great in transition. he has zero opportunity to show it on this team that emphasizes rebounds over leaking out.

    • I think they said nothing when Lin made that deep 3?

I remember one tried to make nice comment when Lin assisted Zeller, but more on Zeller.

    • GoodDayLA

the traction on the boost crazy light is supposed to be good. Go figure.

    • joyce ward

I have a right to my opinion, however weird you think it might be, You did use the word “criticize” when you were posting your two cent on what I said. So don’t try to fudge the issue. These players played out of character for the 1st 3 quarters. They finally came together in the 4th quarter . So obviously something was wrong in the 1st 3 quarters because they weren’t playing their best. As I stated before, if you don’t like what I post down vote me and keep it moving. Stick a fork in it,we are done

    • Michael

Eye’s rolling like mad. Thought he disliked the 3pt shot.

    • Care to guess how many games are needed before the Hairston experiment is plugged off?

      He consistently scored 3pts with 1-5 shooting, 1-4 from 3pt land in 17 & 18 min.
      Clearly a non-factor & Coach Clifford didn’t trust him.

    • joyce ward

      LOL

    • Rzo Vlade

dude retire already wash up ballhog

    • BScot disliked anyone else shooting 3s besides his hiring manager LOL

    • GoodDayLA

Coach is stupid to play him 15-18 min and Lamb 15-18 minutes. What’s the point?

    • Rzo Vlade

      start jlin at the 2

    • joyce ward

He won’t he will go for the assist record this year. LOL

    • I start to believe FO pressure to test Batum/Kemba playmaking, esp. Batum as SG to play next to MKG.

Was it @zxcvb who came up with the brilliant idea?

    • I think that’s what his minutes allocation has shown to media & FO

    • Rick Johnson

Seems like Clifford is only playing Hairston to humor the front office or something. Doesn’t seem like for basketball reasons. He played half the minutes of the other starters and only Lamb and Kaminsky played less minutes than him.

    • InfiniteWisdom

but that’s not factually correct. the 1st quarter was mainly starters and it was basically tied. then the 2nd quarter starts with the hornets 2nd unit vs a mix of the hawks starters and subs. they go down like 10-12 pts. only when the trio play together do they battle back and actually take the lead. batum got stripped right before the half. if it wasnt for that we’d have been up by one at the half. so it didnt finally come together in the 4th. whenever the trio play they have a positive pt differential. something like 40 pts from these 2 games alone.

you are entitled to your opinion, for sure. but even you cannot say it is anything more than conjecture. i respectfully agree to disagree.

    • Rzo Vlade

batum is a SF not SG whoever stating batum is a 2 in the hornets management are idiots

    • Rzo Vlade

if you sit jlin bring lamb if you sit kemba bring roberts or daniels….lamb and daniels will jack shots with abandon

    • Rick Johnson
    • yeah, very much so.

the “defensive stopper” try at MKG position was probably a line from the FO that was quickly proven false w/ 0.5 rebound/game & 0 steals.

Definitely making a point to someone

    • GoodDayLA

I do not believe Clifford is the one. I personally believe it is front office. Clifford seems to believe in Lin so I cannot imagine he wanted to bench Lin.

    • GoodDayLA

Clifford is either clueless or trying to troll the front office with his bad subbing and roster usage.

    • joyce ward

Like l said before office politics. Coach and FO harped so much on their expectations of batum, but he is not a versatile player like lin.

    • GoodDayLA

that’s my point. He’s barely playing for a starter. Seems ridiculous. Start Lamb and play Lamb 40. This 15 min each crap is stupid. Lame politics.

yup……………….and call a jj reddick play for jlin if start at sg….advice jlin to shoot more like a sg

    • ha.. it’s not Clifford’s fault that Hairston didn’t produce.. I think whoever suggested Hairston to start is in the hot seat now; especially after the trio playmakers led 2 comeback in 2 straight games in the 4th quarter.

Definitely winnable games if JLin started. 2-0 for Coach Clifford in chess-moves

    • Spot

No FO pressure. It’s all Clifford.

He thinks he defends better. He used to be a defensive coach.

Clifford is risking his job. My hope is still for D’Antoni, who already wanted a 2 PG team in New York (remember when he was trying Baron Davis and Jeremy in training?)

    • Spot

      No Lin no win.

Give this team to D’Antoni and will win the title.

    • joyce ward

How do you know it’s Clifford? Do you have inside scoop. BTW, I don’t Clifford is worried too much about his job because several legitimate media sources on twitter said that a lot of GM’s are laying in wait to hire Clifford if Charlotte doesn’t renew his contract.

Atlanta Hawks narrowly avoid disaster in 97-94 win over Charlotte Hornets

Jeremy Lin spearheaded an 8-0 run by the visitors, and within seconds, a 14-point lead for the Hawks would slashed to six with just 4:42 remaining in the game. While Atlanta would stem the tide for nearly two minutes, Marvin Williams would make a three for the Hornets to cut the lead to just three with just over two minutes remaining. Jeff Teague, quite fortunately, scored on the ensuing possession, but Jeremy Lin quickly answered with yet another three, forcing everyone in the arena into panic mode.

I don’t think it’s FO. And I’m sure about it.

If it was FO why they brought in loads of 3 point shooter like Lamb, Daniels, Hawes (who was known for his 3 point shooting), Batum and they drafted Kaminsky?

FO want a team who runs the floor and shoot 3 pointer.

Clifford wants a team who play good defence cause defence wins games in his mind.

We will see what happens. Roster is deep and it’s a pity when coach wastes so much talent.

    • joyce ward
    • Sure the FO wanted to space the floor with 3pt shooters.
But they thought Batum/Kemba can be main playmakers while JLin anchors the 2nd team.

Next they will replace Hairston with JLamb who had 11 pts

Either FO or Coach Clifford want MKG replacement + JLin to anchor 2nd team.
They haven’t realized the only true playmaker is JLin.

Batum/Kemba play so much better with JLin on the floor.
They need 100% strength of 1st unit with JLin as SG +70% 2nd unit
      Not 75% 1st unit + 75% 2nd unit

Terrific game by Lin off the bench. He was Charlotte’s best player again, starters included. Twice, he brought the team back from the holes that the starters dug.

At $2 million a season, NOBODY has any right to complain about Lin’s performance.

    • sydpang

Heard this from a good friend who was at the game seated courtside behind the hornets bench: “coach got after lin about not shooting enough”

Not sure when it happened since I didn’t get a chance to watch the game, but based off what I’ve read here tonight I’d guess before lin went on that run in the 4th.

No problem – when he takes a look at the game tape, Lin will shoot more from next game onwards!

    • Maknusia

Thats true…if you look at the game, he had only 3 FGA prior to Q4. Q4 he had 5 FGA. For some reason he was not taking shots. (Could it be a hurting hand…remember, he took a hard hit on previous game)
Knowing Lin he always wants the Team to performance rather than individual stat.
Good to have such a coach to instill the confidence in Lin.

    • Maknusia

      where? when?

    • Maknusia

Im guessing here…as it just occurred to me…he took a hard hit on his hand the last game…could it be bothering him?

    • Phoenix Rising

Oh I hope this is true! Is so, then next game onwards, Lin will start shooting more. That will allow him to lose his primary defender on drives more easily. And then chaos! (for the other team of course)

    • KHuang

Wilkins has hated Lin for years.

      That’s OK – he’s not on Lin’s team.

This is the same Dominique Wilkins who bypassed his own nephew Damien 3 times in the Draft. Damien went on to have a 10+ year NBA career.

Speaking of Damien Wilkins, he is SORELY missed. The team should have cut Hairston and not him. With Wilkins, this game would have been won.

    • KHuang

That’s nice and all, but Lin shooting more still doesn’t solve the problem of the crushing tripleteams.

Moving Lin to SG helps Lin’s shooting more than any well meaning advice at PG.

Lin’s 2nd team is not coming to games ready to play, Zeller and Hawes in particular. And that negatively impacts Lin’s shooting.

    • Phoenix Rising

Oh, I hope not! Though, his shots looked real good when he took them, so maybe not. I just read a post below by sydpang – tells me that whatever the reason this game, next game onwards he is definitely gonna take more shots. Because, one thing is for sure – regardless of whether the good or bad, Lin always listens to the coach!

And in this case, shooting more is gonna be good for him and the team 🙂

    • Phillycheese

If you didn’t watch the game, then stfu. Seriously – go watch the game and then come back with an opinion based on something other than thin air.

    • Phoenix Rising

Regardless of whoever is on the team… Hairston should not be playing :P, at least not with the first unit. His offense stinks and his defense stinks. I would actually stretch this to say, he makes the game much harder for other players – which is why all the starters were exhausted by the end of today’s game. I am not sure what Coach is seeing, that the rest of the world can’t see.

    • Phillycheese

BS, he had the ball and can can do whatever he wanted. He just chose not to shoot as much. Sometimes Lin has to look for his since he is team’s best shooter.

    • Phoenix Rising

In today’s game the double and triple teams came on the start of Jeremy’s drives. If he had shot more then I believe the defense would have reacted differently as the game progressed.

Absolutely agree on the 2nd point – 2 games now the second unit (except the Jeremy’s) looks lackadaisical… their offensive and defensive movements are so confused. Not only shooting, but at least 3 times I noticed that Lin had to completely reverse direction from the Coach’s play, just because his team mate was in the wrong position.

Also, does Hawes even know how to set screens?!!

    • Phillycheese

Lin had some good moments today but overall, it was a poor shooting performance. Defensively he did alright and was active. Tried too hard to get teammates involved though.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Lin looks different, not the stereotype black player who would show off their jumping ability by dunking all over others. Unfortunately they could get hurt the same. Tony Parker never dunks.

    • JLin Fan from Australia
    • Kwok Wai Lai

After 3 years of inhibition, you think Lin would liberate himself right away.

    • JLin Fan from Australia

That is one of my concerns from last game as well. He also got some many hard hits in this game as well.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

This is a back to back road game. So that does affect everybody. I’m amazed the Hornets played as well as they did.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

I have never seen Lin played like this. Lin shows great sportsmanship.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

      Phantom call again.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Hawes-Lin-Zeller shows great chemistry in passing.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Kobe believes Byron Scott can be a more effective coach too.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Could somebody explain to me what is TS% please?

    • Brent Yen

      LOL……exactly

    • Dorothy

      LOL, thanks for posting.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

With MKG at SF, both Chao and Clifford could not justify the claim to sign Batum whom they know is invaluable to them. Batum is an asset if you use him properly. He’s an all around player that could generate offense that the team needs. So both Chao and Clifford threw a curve ball and signed Batum at 2.
Now they have to justify the signing of Batum now. It’s the difficult part. As season goes, the offense of Batum is important to the team. It is great move to get Batum from Portland. Remember that Hornets did give two of their important players to get Batum to Charlotte. That’s politics but both Clifford and Chao have to answer to the signing of Batum.

After the smoke clears and the team gets back to normal, I guess the team will prosper.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

They could even try to use Zeller at 3 and then move Kaminsky to 4 backing up Marvin William. Zeller will do much better than Hairston with his 3 point shooting. Starting Hairston discourages lots of other players on the team.

      Wonder what happens to PFV?
Video Coming Soon for — Game 2 Jeremy Lin & Charlotte Hornets Lose To Atlanta Hawks(from PFV)

    • KL

From the Hornets JLin video it is clear that they envisioned Lin playing with the second unit of Zeller, Hawes, Kaminsky and Lamb. But now coach has realised how good Jeremy is playing as SG and has planned that he would close out games alongside Kemba.

However, this is not really working. Batum as SG is a failure. Also the second unit is just not coming in with the focus and confidence needed to excel. They did ok in preseason but cannot turn it up a notch like Lin. So Lin has actually played better with the starters.

I think the politics is that Clifford is not prepared to bench Al. It is not easy to move a former All Star out of the starting lineup. I don’t think he is refusing to start Lin but Al will clog up the lanes, stop ball movement and slow down the offence.

We all want Lin to start. But it’s only a partial solution if Al is not moved as well.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

Jeremy is not his type but Lin plays well. This is a good enough reason that Wilkins dislike Jeremy.

    • Kwok Wai Lai

With so much outcry about the starting lineup, it won’t be long before Clifford comes to good sense of using his players.

    • Briiick

May Kobe be with LAL forever.

    • Briiick

      Can’t agree more, LOL.

    • wu kong
    • TTNN

not sure that’s Lin not sure the PG vs SG role or not, he was trying to set up his teammate and not really looking for his own shot, kind of obvious

    • wu kong

Clifford is only harping on transition defense… let me re-watch game this morning while on treadmill… how well does he run back. That may be all it takes for him to stay in… no actual box score results just run back like coach says to

    • wu kong

they paid these guys big$$$ so they gotta see if it pays off on the court. I guess and they need Batum to be able to bring ball up for that to work…

    • Jeremiah (the Grey)

“Shoe slipping”: Can’t help but think that all the gel he puts in his hair may be contaminating the floor near his locker. A simple Mohawk that doesn’t need any gel would be much more practical.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_shooting_percentage

statistic that measures a player’s efficiency at shooting the ball.[1] It is intended to more accurately calculate a player’s shooting than field goal percentage, free throw percentage, and three-point field goal percentage taken individually. Two- and three-point field goals and free throws are all considered in its calculation. It is abbreviated TS%.

About 5 hrs ago (around 5:15am New York time) in response to Joyce Ward.

    • Hope

Looking forward to the next game. Will jlin dominate? Will he shoot more? Will he play timid or free? Seem like he has support from coaches.

    • CJSHYY

Thanks for the infor… Good he should tell Lin to shoot more next game.

    • CJSHYY

So glad coach told to to take more shoots….

    • Dan Cohen

so u rather have him go 10% right by taking 50 shots right.
Last time I check teams with people like doesn’t go on championshps

and lin takes shots selectively….if you are implying him as in taking no shots.

    • kjch

So I just saw a replay of Lin’s steal which was called a foul by the ref and I’m just wondering… Why doesn’t the NBA have a ‘challenge system’ like in many other sports such as tennis. Give each team say 2 opportunities to challenge a refs call per quarter. I’m sure this has been discussed before … But can someone clue me in? Thanks

    • rookie75094

      +10 What he said…lol

    • Dan Cohen

but thats ok.. harden got his 20 points that what it matters to morey and mchale.

    • Dan Cohen

hope the replay has it.. else seems like I missed something

    • Dan Cohen

      oh zaaammmmmmm!!

    • Dan Cohen

good idea….should go petition it. I found out he was stealing instead of ‘fouling’ because I was reading play-by-play and was thinking ‘omg lin will get blame for this.’ until I saw the phantom foul.

Wonder did clifford go out to the ref and say something.

    • wu kong

my tin foil hat answer is they like being able to make calls for their ‘stars’

    • Dan Cohen

well.. kemba should want lin to play with him.. he does better when lin is in there with him so he should not be against it..unless you are talking about money.. people will say 2 million is better than 10 or 12 million.

batum will have his expectations met if he play his real natural position.. MKG is good..but I don’t get what they get batum then. whole thing doesn’t make sense.

    • grover chang

Sometimes I think Wilkins protest too much. Love and hate are opposite sides of the coin. We love Lin because there is something special there. Haters like Wilkins hate him for the same reason.

    • Dan Cohen

      highlights? I misse dthe game.

    • kjch

Yeah then I wonder what the NBA’s diplomatic “official” reason is for not implementing the system. I for one, can’t think of any legitimate reasons not to ….

    • sws94

The game is already slow enough. It’ll probably meet a lot of resistance.

    • wu kong

time: people already get annoyed at the replay center stuff.
ego: constant calls to ‘let them play’. old school guys calling young guys ‘charmin’ for not being rougher on court

    • sws94

Can’t stand him. Trashing a professional basketball player with Lin’s skills is just disgusting. He’s got some bug up his you-know-what about Lin. He says stupid things like LIn isn’t quick or can’t penetrate. That’s just false. I left the Atlanta feed after half time. But Lin has to shut Wilkens up and play better. I want Lin to go out there and guard Teague or Schroeder hard, block one of their shots, they aren’t that good, and on the other side score over 20. I want Lin to shut stupid Wilken’s mouth up.

    • kjch

I’d say it takes maybe 30 seconds to review. My original numbers were pretty arbitrary. Maybe give 2 challenges an entire game. If the challenge is correct, he keeps the original challenges, if he’s wrong he loses 1. Let’s say each coach challenges 4 times a game, that’s an additional 4 minutes. Even if we double that to take into account some waiting time, that’s extra 8mins. I could live with that…… Hey I watch 4 hour tennis matches lol!

    • takemeback2reaganyears

No sports will ever challenge foul call

    • Acbc

You’re on a treadmill while Lin’s on a treadmill, hhhmmm, maybe you should be running with a purpose outdoors instead. Try running towards the sun and maybe you’ll be the lucky charm for Lin and get him off the treadmill too, lol

    • kjch

I don’t think it would take thaaaat much more time. I’m sure they could optimise the number of challenges so that it doesn’t feel like a drag on the overall game for fans. And sure people get annoyed by replay stuff… But people also get annoyed by dumb calls by refs. Sure there’s a compromise somewhere. Lol and old school guys… Uh no comment

    • Acbc

That’s okay, it forced me to give up finally and go to sleep or entering “the Michael mode”.

    • GoodDayLA

I mean everyone on here said Coach Clifford was 100% free to start and play whomever he wanted.

Now Lin fans are saying Coach Clifford’s hands are chained by MJ and/or the front office so as not to be able to start and play who he wants?

      I mean it’s a lot of speculation.

I can tell you something strange happened. I don’t like how he kept shuffling the starting lineup and didn’t deal with it till game 1 and it took like 72 hours before they disclosed the starting 5 up to the last minute on the PF.

That shows the team has internal conflict or that the team has some sort of other issue

    • KHuang

Lin has a green light from
Charlottes coaches to speed as much as he want despite massive teammate congestion.

    • Acbc

On the contrary, a coach that shouts out instructions properly is an extra set of experienced eyes to help players to adjust properly. Players are always shouting out instructions to each other all the time. That’s call good team communication.

    • KHuang

I cannot get mad at Wilkins, just like I couldn’t get mad at Drexler.

Those Hall of Fame players have the right to trash whoever they want, Lin included.

Besides, their trashing indicts them more than Lin anyway.

    • wu kong

oh I agree. At this point not sure why so much is left up to people to decide anyway. Put some electronics on these guys and automate most of the calls a la fencing. But like I said it is obvious that they give preferential treatment to ‘stars’ and you could not do that if the game was called with out that bias. Even the box score stats are questionable to me… and all those fancy ‘advanced’ stats that rely on those box scores… just lipstick on a pig. Fantasy league relies on the box scores and those can be so easily manipulated. Lots of stuff about the game needs cleaning up.

    • KHuang

If Lin starts shooting more at PG, the defenses will simply coverge on him till he is playing 1 on 5 as his listless teammates stand around.

Now if Kaminsky and Lamb and especially Hansbrough stepped up and started attacking more, THEN the crushing triple teams would fade.

    • KHuang

NBA is known for terrible officiating – that’s how they invent “stars” and “dynasties” and “homecourt advantage”.

    • KHuang

      It’s not Lin’s call.

If Lin’s teammates do not attack and produce, the crushing double teams will continue to engulf him.

    • heart

To a certain degree, but constant directing and not allowing autonomy to make on court decisions independently is called micro-managing. Of course, if a steal is in danger, yes, but not constant micro-managing. Study film, practice & learning through one’s own mistake will decrease future mistake. Of course, I’m talking about coaches, but teammates need communication on court.

    • jlim7

To me, this is only tip of the iceberg. Right now, players like Curry and Lin that can penetrate and score using skill are worrying the competing players that does not have skill, but only relying on physicality. That was why they use MWP to trumpet and push NBA to change rule to allow physicality. Right now, we have seen that referees close one eye when players slowing down Lin using illegal handchecking, and more and more players using handchecking against other players. Because once you allow that to one player, what prevent them to use against other players. I think soon enough, NBA will change the rule again to allow handcheck and more physicality. If come down to it, i just hope there is competing basketball association that only allowing players play based on skill, and i will stop watching NBA.

    • Rick Johnson

Nothing that will change the outcome of the game. The NBA does review calls in the last 5 minutes of close games however and will make judgement if the call was correct. Should be out sometime today:

      http://official.nba.com/

    • KHuang

Once again, this game was GARBAGE TIME before Lin even entered the game.

Even though the score was even, the starters had lost momentum via their atrocious play.

When Lin came in cold and late, he was facing an Atlanta team that had gained confidence and was smoothly running. And Lin STILL brought them back.

Like I wrote before the season, Charlotte has THE WORST starting lineup in the entie NBA. They’re even worse than last season when they at least had Lance Stephenson who was a real SG.

    • grover chang

If Lin doesn’t start then at least start lamb at SG with batum at SF. Lamb looks healthy now and could shoot. But the biggest elephant in the room is Al jefferson. The post up moves and shots around the basket don’t bother me. He is doing the best he can. The lack of effort on defense or the inability to move on defense is the shocker.

    • Rick Johnson

He said he was having internet connection problems and couldn’t watch the game.

    • GoodDayLA

if I watch the game, I will probably say a lot worse things.

    • KHuang

Actually, the team is still better with Jefferson on the court.

With Zeller and Hawes playing as if they have never played in the NBA before, removing Jefferson would not necessarily help the team.

    • wu kong

Do we know what they do with this data once its out there?? the game outcome is not changed… do refs get fines like players do??? never heard of any ref public fine or rebuke by NBA.

    • Rick Johnson

Is Mudiay better than D. Russel or does BScott just suck or the Lakers players suck or is it all of the above. They keep saying let Russel develop but Mudiay seems ready to go.

    • GoodDayLA

of course it’s clifford’s fault. He started Hairston and played him 18 minutes. As a coach, Phil Jackson once said, the only hard part and the only part that matters is starting the right guys and playing he right combo of guys the right minutes together. That’s why they get paid the millions, said PJ. To identify who to play and when and how.

Clifford is doing an AWFUL job so far. AWFUL.

The team, not just Lin, looks really bad.

Clifford is not identifying who to play, when, and how. He needs to clean up this act.

It’s tough because if he is wrong, he will lose the locker room if this continues and he makes no chances.

He will also lose the locker room if he makes wholesale changes and it still results in losing.

Clifford refused to make hard choices in the pre-season so now he may have forced his own hand.

    • Hope

      Game 1: 1st & 4th quarter
      Game 2: 1st, 2nd & 4th
      Maybe game 3: 1 2 3 4
      Maybe game 4: 1 2 3 4 OT

    • KHuang

The 2nd unit is still the stronger unit.

Lamb, Kaminsky, and Hansbrough are superb teammates. Both Lamb and Kaminsky helped Lin bring the team back.

Playing those three together is the key.

    • GoodDayLA

so now you think what I think and believe Coach is not 100% to start and play who he wants and how? What’s happened to you Psalsm?

    • KHuang

      Both of them are bad.

If they were switched in draft position, Mudiay would continue to turn the ball over and Russell would not move any faster.

    • Rick Johnson

Nothing happens. Maybe they give feedback to the refs on their mistake. All we can do is publicize it with the official ruling and that video if that is what they rule.

    • Arsenium12 .
